Hello everyone! We haven't had one in a while because everyone was suuuuper busy, but we haven't forgotten about this tradition of ours! The Dev Team is once again bringing you a brand-new set of items with a twist: The theme this month revolves around one of the Nations of Ishgar, namely our lovely Embrant! As a note, future Items of the Month will, for a while, all be focussing on the Nations of Ishgar and the lore behind them to promote our site lore and associated events. That being said, we hope you enjoy these items as much as we enjoyed making them!

Description:
Who needs nets when you have balls? Bug-catchers rejoice! And other creature enthusiasts, too, I guess. This handy-dandy little ball can be used to bonk lil critters and magically shrink and suck them into this little device! They'll live their comfy best lives, and you can then carry around your monsters safely in your pockets and bags [Pet and Companion equipment rules/limits for Combat Pets still apply]!
Disclaimer: Please do not vigorously shake Miraballs, it can cause earthquakes inside. Also, do not drop in lava or freeze, as extreme external conditions can change the weather conditions inside. If you are a terrible person and should you lose your Miraball(s), simply scream the pet’s name and an apology with all of your might, then magically you’ll know exactly where it is. Don’t ask how. Probably magic or something.
Abilities:
Name: Pocket Monster Dimension
Description: Throw this ball at a creature to capture them inside! This will transport the beast (or person, there are some freaks out there) into a pocket dimension of their design and size, perfect for their environmental needs. They will always be comfortable and fed until the user throws the ball at a hard surface again to release the pet. Only one pet can live in a miraball at a time, but the owner and other pets can visit whenever they want by smacking themselves with the miraball. How do you get back out? Well, that’s a surprise! [The user must have OOC permission to use this ability on a player character, a player-owned NPC, or an Event NPC as well as associated magics/pets belonging to those mentioned]

Description:
Howdy stranger! Have you heard of the drink that never runs out? Try great-tasting, newly rebranded Vehlosjuice! It’s great for camping and long trips, or even emergencies. It tastes pretty mild, though it does have a subtle sour salty sweet spice. It is super hydrating and energizing, drawing from the lacrima hearts freshly juiced for your enjoyment. Those that drink Velhosjuice also find themselves wielding incredible wit and sarcasm for the next hour or so. Ain’t that nice?
What’s a lacrima heart? Don’t worry about it, they’re responsibly sourced, though my methods are proprietary, so please don’t tell anyone who comes looking where you saw me last.
Side effects? Why would you ask about that? Fiiiine, for most, the sarcastic wit may make them more charming and likeable, but for some... well, perhaps you should drink responsibly around friends with tender hearts. Aaand…on a very rare occasion, if you say the name of the drink one too many times in a row, one might take a sip and end up transported to Embrant with no way back. I hope you land somewhere un-problematic. But that’s so rare it’s hardly worth mentioning!
Disclaimer: Flammable.
Abilities:
Name: Velhosjuice, Velhosjuice, Velhosjuice
Description: Like it says above. Can’t you read? This is basically just an area for the disclaimer so no one does anything stupid to break roleplay rules and/or ruin everything… [The user must have OOC permission to use this ability on a player character, a player-owned NPC, or an Event NPC as well as associated magics belonging to those mentioned. And no, you can’t chant the name and drink it to get out of taking a hit in combat, that’s dumb. Pretend that combat magic around it deactivates it or something.]

Description:
Long ago, a farmer who owned a handful Mirables had the ambition to conduct an experiment on them. The Mirables are valuable arthropods bred, trained, and used for almost all purposes available in the nation of Embrant, and being able to breed an exceptionally powerful Mirable would surely be newsworthy. What the farmer had in mind was to implant a Dragon’s Lacrima into one of them and hope that the boosted strength of Dragon Slayer Magic would somehow bring the Mirable to the same level as the Velhos.
The results were promising at first… but one day, the special Mirable grew cocky and disobedient. It grew a mind of its own, and it saw itself unsuited for subordination and labor. It no longer desired to do its job in the fields, and it hysterically lashed out at any other Mirable who approached it. It made breaks from the fields at a regular basis, and with its increased strength, it was able to kick up large chunks of the earth with a single swipe of its cerci. On top of that, its powerful mandibles managed to crush another Mirable to death at one point. Fearing the continuous damage it would soon cause to the farmer and those around the field, the Picador and their soldiers were called in to reluctantly end its life.
Left with guilt over what he had created, the farmer was only in a gut-wrenched state when he was handed the last, living remnant of the Mirable – a pulsating, pale organ that used to be the crystalline Lacrima from a Dragon. As it was a painful reminder of his failure, the Lacrima was quickly discarded, destined to end in the hands of someone else…

Appearance:
Description:
This Lacrima was once the heart of a first among the line of Velhos. It is said that this firstborn was part of the original colony birthed by the mysterious Insectoid that favored Embrant. The firstborn was the guardian of the first colony, a powerful primordial insectoid that watched from the darkness, a silent protector. When a powerful mythical beast threatened to destroy the colony, the firstborn challenged the beast's might. Leading the charge, the firstborn led its brothers and sisters against the army of the cruel god. The long and bitter war resulted in many casualties, nearly wiping out the first colony. However, in perhaps one of the first instances in Earthland where the evil beast was slain, the firstborn was able to rip the throat of the cruel beast and devoured its flesh. This victory came at a price, for the firstborn was mortally wounded. As its final sacrifice for its colony, the First Born gave its heart imbued with the mythical powers of the beast to its queen.
According to legend, the mysterious insectoid imparted one last gift in secrecy, the heart of the firstborn. The heart was bestowed to another unknown human tasked to watch over and protect Embrant and his people. Just like the firstborn, this unnamed human became a silent and unknown protector of Embrant. The heart was passed down through generations in secrecy until the nation of Embrant had grown strong. It is unknown who is in possession of the Monarch's Heart, but it is said that the heart will grant power to those who wish to protect their people. A power that can act as the bulwark for many or a force of destruction that seeks to bring harm to the masses.

Name:
Buscador's Spear

Proof of Acquisition:

Description:
The Buscador-- or seeker-- is a roaming warrior of Embrant. These brave men and women serve two purposes - one, they are rangers and scouts, roaming the lands, usually very self-sufficient in doing so across the most treacherous of terrain. Secondly, and equally as important, they intercept rogue interlopers, capturing and retrieving them for crimes such as poaching Mirables. While they tend to live on the land for the majority of their tenure, seekers are brave and fierce warriors, dedicating their lives to the cause of keeping the wilderness free from the clutches of those who would dare to denigrate the sovereign lands of their beloved homeland.
One of their main weapons is a spear. Typically the full height of the seeker themselves, this spear is plated in extra chitin from the back of an armored Mirable, edged sharply so that it will slice a man in two. Additionally, the chitinous hook at the base of the haft is detachable, whereupon a seeker may reveal their hidden weapon - a razor-sharp net to entangle either rogue Mirables, or even a resisting criminal. Said hook allows a seeker to re-trap someone who has broken free without needing to use their hands to re-gather the net. In the service of their task, however, a Buscador has trained in the use of a variety of toxins and poisons, made from secretions of Mirables that they encounter in their travels. These toxins allow them to personalize their weapons for the greatest effect in recovering those that are lost.

Typically, the drill is lunge, twist, and extract - pierce the target, cause a touch more internal damage with the blade, and remove from target to repeat all over again until the enemy is defeated. Those struck by the spear will find a toxin entering their bloodstream, causing a user rank active debuff of both movement speed and strength.

Description: This is the hidden weapon of the Embrante seeker, a net woven of the finest and most thin Seda - the incredibly durable silk-like material unique to certain Mirables - and then coated with a venom. The strands of this net are so fine that they can slice flesh, not too dissimilar to receiving a papercut, but it is once that toxin is introduced to the body that it begins to cause convulsions and extreme muscle fatigue. Those entangled within this net are immobilized for one post as they attempt to break free and the toxin begins to work through their body.

A standard issue of Mirable plate armor given to officers of the Embrant armed forces. It is constructed using the carapace of a centipede-like Mirable, with plates of the creature’s exoskeleton forming protective coverings around the user’s chest, back, shoulders, arms, and neck. The head-portion of the Mirables hangs from the wearer’s back like a cape. This particular set once belonged to an Embrant officer that ventured to the mainland to learn more about the cultures outside of his own, and was ultimately slain after a heated misunderstanding with Savanti mages. They took his armor and pawned it for coin to a traveling merchant, who added it to his wares to resell.

The number of targets it can attack per turn is equal to the spell's maximum duration in posts. For the duration of the ability, the user benefits from a user rank active buff to their Spell Damage and Strength. Aside from being exceptionally sturdy, the user can tap into a hidden power stored in the armor’s plating that, when activated, boosts the wearer’s defenses, allowing the user to absorb a number of hit points worth of damage equal to the ability's durability. The wearer benefits from a user rank advanced active buff to their Spell Durability for the duration of the ability. The ability benefits from anti-piercing effects, and is subject to all anti-piercing guidelines. Description:
This Mirable is quite a special one, even among Embrant's unique insect fauna. It stands at a height of just over 6 feet from the top of its back (thorax) to the ground. Covered in iridescent purple chitin, it has a large majestic horn on its head, and some spiky outgrowths on its thorax and elytra. Despite its silence and the fact that it seems to be a giant bug, there is a feeling of deep intelligence emanating from this creature. Initially bred for transportation, heavy lifting, and as a beast of burden, the intelligence of this insect has made it much more versatile, even being engaged in warfare successfully. There is a saddle on Capacete's back, which can seat two people.
Abilities:- plot abilities:
Capacete interacts telepathically with its owner. It's not so much words as it is the owner just knowing what its thoughts, plans, or intentions are. Using this method, it can also interact with insect life and can get said insects to carry out non-combat-oriented tasks for its owner. Player-owned and Event insects are exempt from this except by clear OOC approval from the necessary authorities.
Capacete can also change size, from a maximum size of being just over 6 feet at the saddle, to a minimum size of 5 inches from head to abdomen, for its owner's convenience.
Capacete is capable of flight, and can carry two passengers on its saddle. It can still fly with a lot more weight attached.

Kinsect Fortress “Karkata”

Type:
Combat Pet
Species:
Giant Mirable
Proof of Acquisition:
[Insert Link to Acquisition here]
Description:
There was once a mage of Embrant who dreamt of a grandiose fortress mounted atop a Mirable of gargantuan size. It was said that he was given a vision of what needed to be done in the event of Embrant’s collapse, and others claimed it to be a prophecy. These were just a minority of those who wished to see this dream made reality, while most were naysayers thinking that no mirable would be big enough to mount a fortress on. Was it a vision, or a prophecy? The mage did not care what they thought. All he knew was that he had to make this dream real, a feat thought to be impossible considering that there were no giant mirables in existence… yet. It was a challenge he could not refuse, as the proud mage was confident in his abilities. Thus did he labor, raising a mirable he named ‘Karkata'. Feeding it pure magic, it would later grow to tower over trees and, eventually, buildings. A year later, the dream of the mighty Kinsect Fortress was realized. Unfortunately, before Karkata would be mobilized and seen as an addition to Embrant’s defenses, the mage passed away. Though only a few had seen this giant mirable, none of them knew how to produce another Karkata, as the knowledge was lost with its maker. With no master to supply magic to it, the giant mirable went into hibernation, preserving the ethernanos fed into it and waiting for its new master to wake it up from its deep slumber.
Karkata was designed as a mobile fortress that can house refugees and soldiers alike, as well as a forward base in times of war. Although its weight makes it slow, it makes up for it in sheer resilience. It is well capable of defending itself, harnessing the magic absorbed to unleash spells taught by its masters, as well as channel the spells fed to it. In addition, it would also seem that both Karkata and the fortress mounted on top of it are linked as if the fortress itself has become a part of it.
Abilities:
Resistant Chitin Guard
The magic coursing through the giant mirable and the fortress grants itself enhanced resistance against all sorts of threats, allowing it to survive longer in combat. Thus, the Kinsect Fortress benefits from a passive 50% Damage Reduction to itself. Furthermore, as a plot ability, allies and individuals selected by the user can find refuge inside the Fortress outside of PvP or Event combat scenarios.
Gargantuan Vitality
Owing to its size, as well as the magic fed to it, Karkata is able to endure longer periods of fighting. Furthermore, the fortress itself is made up of a complex mixture of stone and chitin that reinforces its structure. These combined grant the Kinsect Fortress a 100% base increase to its HP. While its size is impressive, it is also one of its flaws - it is incapable of running. Not only that, and the weight of the fortress would only hinder it from doing so as well. Thus the Kinsect Fortress also suffers from a 50% base reduction to its Speed.

In addition, while a wizard stands beside the podium and uses it, they stand to benefit from the magic coursing through the Kinsect Fortress. Both the user as well as the Combat Pet receive a user rank passive increase to their Spell Damage.

A Velhos that resides in the few wooded areas on Embrant, this creature is believed to have evolved from an ordinary praying mantis, but no evidence exists to confirm or disprove this hypothesis. What is known is that it can cover a lot of ground in the blink of an eye, leading observers to believe that they saw a shadow moving among the trees. This uncanny swiftness led to its nickname of "Woodland Shadow".
In the wilderness where "survival of the fittest" is the law, the Woodland Shadow is more than able to hold its own. It recognizes few rivals and will readily dispatch challengers with swift movement to close the range followed by a lightning-fast swing of one of its razor-sharp arm blades to a vital area. It is suspected to be the holder of a Lacrima heart boasting regenerative properties connected to the wooded areas it calls home, but since the Woodland Shadow has not been studied there is no way to confirm or disprove the speculation.

Description:
It is known that Embrant, when first embarking from mainland Ishgar to found his own nation, brought along the arthropods that Embrantes today refer to as "Mirables". These creatures became the foundation, as well as an integral part of Embranti society, the legacy of Embrant living on to this day in his successors. Still, Embrant was not born with his powers, but rather, received them from an unknown insectoid. That day, of course, marks a significant event in the history of the nation that is today called Embrant after its founder, but there is a side in that exchange often forgotten. Not much is known about the enigmatic progenitor insectoid that first enabled the nation of Embrant to rise to where it is today, but the exchange between the two sides was not a one-way affair. The fact that the deal that was struck between Embrant and the insectoid, a creature that had never before encountered a human being, began a new dynasty among the arthropods of the forest is still a closely guarded secret among even the ranks of Embrant's finest. A liaison was needed to stay in contact with the humans so that a fruitful friendship may be established between the two sides, and an alliance could be formed under the condition that she would only stay as long as Embrant needed assistance to truly become a self-sufficient people. As such, the insectoid created a daughter specifically for that task, crafting a being that would function as an observer and an ambassador to the world of mirables and humans, itself somewhere between humanoid and arthropod in appearance.
Thus, Filomena was born, accompanying the then barely-established Embrantes as they built their state, watching it grow and prosper in no small part due to the efforts of her siblings. Still, gradually, as she spent years and years along the people of Embrant and never really growing older along the way, she came to understand that they possessed something that she did not: A lacrima heart. Her siblings, those raised by Embrant, and some of their descendants seemed to bear such a heart within them, and the people that cared for these creatures they called Velhos rightly revered the arthropods and their hearts for their miraculous qualities and awe-inspiring powers. Gradually, the being known as Filomena grew jealous of those that could call such a heart their own, and thus, when her task had been fulfilled and Embrant had grown to such a degree that it had grown independent, a secret pact was formed and she was released from her duties. Now without purpose, the hybrid set out to fulfill her own dream and acquire a lacrima heart, though the end of her story has not yet been written.
Filomena is a quiet, though exceedingly discerning and attentive being. She is soft-spoken and often aloof, but highly intelligent and ruthlessly efficient. She also insists on her independence and doesn't submit to authority. Her skin seems to be made of a layer of flexible, yet sturdy substance that resembles chitin. She possesses a pair of highly dexterous tails that are capable of complex motion and resemble centipedes and, despite her appearance, she boasts incredible physical abilities and stunning magical combat prowess.
Abilities:- Plot Abilities:
Sight: Filomena perceives her surroundings using the two antennae on her head in both an electromagnetic and infrared spectrum, giving her a full three-dimensional view of her surroundings.
Empath: While she doesn't communicate via speech in the traditional sense, Filomena communicates through Telepathy if another party is willing to communicate with her as well. She can do so at will and across vast distances up to a few kilometers. Her thoughts and ideas will always manifest in an individual's mother tongue, and as such, she is able to communicate effectively with pretty much all humans. Furthermore, she can communicate in the same way with arthropod lifeforms. Lastly, Filomena is highly sensible to emotions, but only in those willing to communicate with her, being able to sense and interpret the emotional state of anyone she speaks to in this way (OOC permission required for this to be used on Players, player-owned NPCs, or Event NPCs).
Shapeshifter: Filomena can transform her form into that of a small millipede resembling her tail, about two feet in length, for convenience or travel, often wrapping around the user of the Combat Pet like a scarf. Without a second glance, she'd look like one, too. If one overlooks the legs, that is.

Both the user and the Combat Pet benefit from a 100% increase to either their base Spell Damage or base Strength.
Increase Chosen: [Please specify either "Spell Damage" or "Strength" here]
Name: Crystal-Chitinous Defence
Category: Auxiliary
Type: Passive
Description: Filomena's chitin is a strange material that can harden exponentially in response to ethernano or traumatic stimuli, drawing energy from the individual she is bonded to. This Combat Pet receives an additional flat increase to its original base HP based on 50% of the user's maximum HP (e.g., the user has a max HP of 1,000, meaning that Filomena would receive, in this example, 500 points to her base HP) and vice versa. Filomena can, at will, produce a shield out of a thick, web-like substance resembling spider silk to defend and cover an area equal to user rank advanced burst range at user rank advanced burst speed (Up to S) once per post. This shield possesses a durability equal to 50% of Filomena's maximum HP and cannot be pierced by spells containing a piercing effect.
Name: Insectoid Pseudo-Breath
Rank: User Rank Advanced (Up to H++ / Unlocked at H rank)
HP Cost: 750 HP
Category: Offensive
Type: Burst - Charge, Piercing
Damage: 600 HP / 300 HP per post
Range: 1,500 m
Speed: 2,000 m/s
Duration: 5 posts max
Downside: Designated HP cost must be paid in order to activate this ability. Ability cannot benefit from Cost Reductions.
Description: Filomena draws an immense amount of power from the Lacrima heart that she's been granted, concentrating raw arcane might within her body. She can either choose to continue to build up this power or release it immediately, though only one method may be chosen per activation. If the former is chosen, the ability will store 300 HP of damage every post. The ability can be released at any point during the ability's duration, dealing the stored damage. If the latter method of activation is chosen, the ability instead deals 600 HP of damage. Once the ability is released, Filomena takes a deep breath and, in a display of colossal power, releases the energy of her Lacrima in a shockwave from her mouth that can either spread out all around her or in a wide cone shape before her, evoking the image of a breath attack that spreads out up to the range of the ability at the ability's speed. Any element or a combination of elements associated with the integrated Lacrima may be used as the basis of this breath attack. The attack can pierce through shields, armors, and barriers, though sacrifices 50% of its base damage if doing so. This ability can either benefit from increases associated with spells (Spell Damage, Spell Range, Spell Speed) or increases associated with techniques (Strength, Technique Range, Technique Speed), though only one may be chosen in any given thread where this ability is used. The type of increases chosen must be denoted when activating the ability for the first time during a thread.
