[color=#828282]When the universe came into existence, so did many fantastic and mystical creatures. Out there in the great unknown there are environments, planets, and beasts beyond your wildest dreams. One such creature was a time dragon that surfed through the universe on invisible waves, teleporting around and messing with the development of planets and time. The mischief-maker rushed some planets to their demise with his magic, then slowed the creation of others until their development failed. Stars were forced to regress and wink out of existence. He played with time irresponsibly and would pay the price. When he attempted to sink his claws into the forming planet that would be Earthland, the dragon was pulled in by a magical force and trapped within the planet's core. It was there he would reside for millions of years, only able to watch as the planet grew and developed around him.

Over the many eons, he learned a virtue so valuable he felt the need to pass it on: patience. The intricate creation and evolution of planets took time, which he had so frivolously toyed with in the past. He realized it would be a long time before he was freed, and grew to value the virtue that was forced upon him. In his early days of boredom within the confines of the planet's core, the dragon created and released a lacrima that would take many thousands of years to rise through Earthland's layers. This lacrima would allow the user to access the dragon's magic, but also taught them the importance of patience.[/color]

[color=#c74e00]As is the rightful course of history whenever destruction wakes, many are sent off to fight in the pointless wars of kings and queens that seek to display their inimitable power; though fleeting, such power is sufficient to commit thousands to death for a war whose consequences could be felt for eternity - or for a full ten minutes before the next monarch deigns to dream. As a result, history is writ in the ink of the blood of thousands, no matter their age - innocent or guilty, soldier or civilian. This is a story told as old as time itself. Whenever people go off to fight, they are simply a statistic. They are simply more bodies for the meat grinder. When the fog of war lifts and the smoke rises off the empty battlefield, all that is left is dust, ashes, and the discarded weapons and corpses of those who foolishly fought for a monarch who they truly believed would support them. They are then replaced by more stock - younger, full of vitality, ready to continue the war until victory or death.

The shade of war has now passed over Ishgar once again, and with it, the refulgent specter of death has reared its ugly head over Ishgar once more. The meat grinder stirs, its gears beginning to turn in preparation for the next batch of fresh bodies that will fuel its infernal device - but how many wars will need to be fought to satisfy the machine?[/color]

[color=#ffae00]A popular tale... or rather, an ominous tale that has been told many a time in ye olden days, especially around Halloween and when the days grew shorter, was the story about a knight; not a knight in shiny armor that fought dragons and saved the damsels in distress. This knight knew no chivalry, nor the social etiquettes. This was a knight in black armor, shaped like a demonic being of some sort. It was a knight that left hamlets besmeared with blood and villages burning. Not even the cattle were safe from his beastly wrath. The shining knights that set out from their tall towers and mighty castles to find this monstrous knight and duel him to the death... these knights had never been found or heard from again, and only the whispers and rumors of the smallfolk who claim to have found bloodied armor pieces strewn around in fields and forest mentioned their names again.

This black knight had many names: The Demon Knight, The Black Knight, The Knight of Shadows, The Knight of Death, The Unholy Rider, and more. Who, or whatever it was, it appeared throughout Earthland for a period of a thousand years in simpler times long ago...

[color=#61bfbc]Long ago the knight who would become the Spirit of Protection swore to protect a king and his descendants even from beyond the grave. The knight successfully protected his lord for over two decades until one day a group of eight assassins burst into the king's throne room and cut their way through the guards, then made for the king and queen. The lone knight intervened and killed seven of the assassins, then engaged in a prolonged duel with the last surviving assassin that ended only after he was decapitated. The knight's valiant delaying action ultimately saved the king and his queen from certain death and ended in the death of the last assassin at the hands of more royal guards who entered the throne room not long after the duel.

The fallen knight was honored as the "Spirit of Protection" for his long years of faithful service to the royal family, but that was not the end of the Spirit. For many years after the king's death, his successors reported a spectral headless knight whose armor matched that of the deceased knight appearing from nowhere to protect them whenever assassins made attempts on their lives. The sword wielded by their protector was a spectral blade that could cut through cloth and armor with equal ease and cut through multiple opponents in one swing. The person being protected by the spirit also reported that when the knight gifted them a spectral suit of armor physical attacks did much less damage to them than expected and that magical attacks directed at them were absorbed by a ghostly shield, which then disappeared only to return a short time later if another spell was cast.

A little over two centuries later the king's line died out when the last king passed away without having any offspring and a new royal family came to power. Having finally fulfilled his oath to his lord after centuries of faithful service, the Spirit of Protection left the kingdom to seek a new lord or lady to protect. The Spirit of Protection has spent countless years looking for a new owner worthy of his service and perhaps his search will end soon.

Whoever owns the Spirit of Protection will have protection worthy of royalty from a knight who does not let minor inconveniences like being dead for centuries or missing his head get in the way of his duty. The Spirit will stand loyally by his owner's side and he will protect them and their friends no matter what dangers they face. Nothing will stop this knight from serving his owner and proving how he earned the title of "Spirit of Protection" so long ago.[/color]

However, the negation only works on spells equal to the rank of this ability or lower. While the buff is active the recipient "wears" a ghostly gray and gold suit of armor that resembles the Spirit of Protection's. When a spell is negated a ghostly replica of the shield carried by the Spirit of Protection appears in front of the user and absorbs the spell, then vanishes in a burst of pale blue light.[/color]

Still, it feels and looks mundane enough to be mistaken for just any old piece of cloth, and yet, nothing could be further from the truth. This fact, while not necessarily accessible to just any beholder, will become more than apparent if the cloak is worn by an individual. Once put on, the individual's mind will be flooded with a madness-inducing cascade of whispers, dozens, hundreds of voices that all seem to claw at the wearer's sanity, seeking to tear it apart by a constant barrage of voices. While it is impossible to make out what the individual voices are saying, one will have the feeling that the whispers are bringing forth insecurities, fears, and mistakes, repeating their discouraging lines again and again, like a depraved form of prayer to an equally depraved deity. Still, if one is brave enough to face the whispers that lurk in their own mind, the cloak bestows powers of similar otherworldliness to the voices, able to fracture and twist the fabric of reality around oneself and within the consciousness of sentient beings, reshaping it according to the user's will.[/color]

Should their worship of the god and their judgments weigh true, the last page of the book, which was formerly blank, will reveal itself in a flash of blinding light! Like every other tattered parchment page within the book, the writing is subtle and shimmering gold. The curling calligraphy is hard to read, but not impossible.

A leather hilt topped with a golden sphere will emerge from the pages. Should the user grab it, they will be compelled to draw it the rest of the way out, revealing a sword, and throw it. Don’t worry, it won’t hit the ground. It will hover, drawing metal from the ground and surroundings to form into proper armor. The blade glows a ghastly pale blue from, serving as the silent soul within. It’s a golem of sorts, but acts on its own as it sees fit with little regard for the user. As long as it remains within the ability's MT range of the book and user, it will hold form and relentlessly attack those judged guilty by his god by swinging or throwing its mace or with potentially bone-shattering kicks and punches. Should it forego MT damage, once per post the golem’s ethereal glow will intensify and then release a blinding light pulse from within the armor to damage any enemy within the ability's Burst range of it, also blinding them for one post, though they can only be blinded once every other post. Foes must be hit again to be blinded again. If the Multi Target version of this attack is chosen, the golem can peform a number of attacks equal to the maximum duration of this ability in any given post it is active. The golem possesses HP equal to 25% of the user's max HP and vanishes upon reaching 0 HP or when the duration of this ability is over. This golem can use either Spell Damage or Strength as basis for its damage calculations, though only one may be chosen in any given thread and cannot be changed for the remaining duration of the thread once chosen. The user must declare which stat is used upon activation of this ability.[/color]

This has never sat well with certain elements of society, who seek to redress the balance and restore some semblance of agency back to the hands of mortal men. An incredibly powerful coven of witches sacrificed themselves in a blood ritual of grand proportion, their bodies twisted and contorted and given new life in the form of a ritual trinket bathed in magical ichor. This, the sixfold binding talisman Hexarch, is now symbolic of the witches' crusade to rid the world of deific influence, able to control the sinister powers of both gods and demons. Its power is legendary - it is said to devour the power of gods and demons alike and store it for its own ritualistic purposes, whereby the more it consumes, the more powerful its bearer becomes, though the substance assigned to these rumors is questionable at best as its bearers tend to be overtaken by the immeasurable strength that this token provides before they themselves are swallowed whole by its influence.

It is, in itself, an irony - the power required to combat such incredible forces contorts the one who faces them into the very monster they seek to destroy.

The amulet itself is cast of silver, inlaid at its core with a cat's eye topaz that pulsates and glows with a magical power - said to in fact be the crystallized eye of an actual beast sacrificed to the ritual - which is then held within a hexagram surrounded by the twelve symbols of the zodiac. The talisman itself is then carried on a woven blood-red cord, one that can be looped around the neck or even tied around a limb - but so the story says, once it finds a worthy bearer, that cord will sear and bind to flesh until either the talisman's purpose is served, or the wearer is slain. One way or another, none have lived long enough to confirm or deny the full extent of the binding's power.[/color]

[color=#e5d398]In a time when dragons openly roamed the earth and humanity waged war against them, an unlikely union was made between a warrior king and the dragoness he had spent many years of his life hunting. The dragoness assumed human form many times and approached the king to entreat a peace, which the king refused time and again, attempting to attack her rather than parlay. Though she greatly outmatched his power, easily defending herself against his assaults, she did not retaliate. Over time, his aggression began to dissolve as he became more and more aware of the futility in his violence toward her until eventually, he was open to peaceful discourse. Though it was not won overnight, ultimately the king and the dragoness reached an understanding of pacifism, which eventually grew into friendship, and then into something more.

The result of their union was Zygan, the first documented half-dragon born to the known world. Though the form of his body was more humanoid than dragon, his flesh was covered in golden-colored scales, and his eyes bore thinly slit pupils like a dragon’s. As he grew into a man, he gained certain abilities from his mother and learned many battle skills from his father, all of which he used in the pursuit of peace around the world between dragons and humans. However, the bad blood between the two predominant races of Earthland ran deep, and Zygan understood that such peace was not likely to be seen in his lifetime. After his father’s death, Zygan entreated his mother to use some of her magic to place a spell on himself, immortalizing his spirit and allowing him to carry on far beyond his mortal lifespan so that he could continue his calling for ages to come. As a result, he was bound to a key that was passed down for many generations to generals of his father’s army that shared Zygan’s goals.

Yet as time goes on, nations rise and fall, and eventually the country that Zygan once called home was brought to ruin, but his key was never recovered by the new rulers of the land. Nearly all mention of his homeland has all but faded from history, yet his key remains a legend, said to mysteriously find its way into the hands of those who share his hunt for harmony between all living things.[/color]

For the duration of the spell, he benefits from advanced user rank buff to strength, capped at H+. Additionally, he can teleport once per turn at a maximum rank of the user’s burst range, capped at H+. Up to once per turn, Zygan is capable of negating one spell of H+ or lower rank at the appropriate MP cost of the user, following all negation rules. He can also tap into the ancient abilities of his dragonkin to copy a spell from either the user or an opponent up to once per round. A copied spell is subject to appropriate MP costs and copy effect guidelines. The max number of targets that may be hit with this ability in any given post is equal to its maximum duration in posts.[/color]
