Conviction never shames nor condemns us.
It calls us back to who we truly are.
Another year, another Halloween. While it wasn’t her favorite holiday in the world, there was always something enjoyable about the atmosphere that the fall day brought, and more than anything she was looking forward to getting Alexia and Naomi dressed up and involved. While this wasn’t their first Halloween, they were arguably too young for the experience of Halloween to have meant anything the prior year. Now, they were toddlers and more interactive with the world, which was both a joy and absolute utter chaos.

Grappa and Jellisha had chosen to spend the holiday with some of their friends this year, so for today the Rune Knight leaders had elected to meet up with Vandrad and Mercury in New Rhaegar, where they could both allow Mercury to venture about without having to be in disguise, and also introduce the Rhaegarians and Xocili alike to the Earthland celebration. “Ready to head out when you are, babe,” Serilda informed Mythal as she finished fitting Alexia into her costume: a little witch outfit with a wide brimmed, pointy hat that was surely be lost by the end of the evening. Serilda herself was also in costume, dressed up as a cheerleader in a one piece outfit that was relatively modest for such attire, aside from an exceptionally short skirt. Whistling for Xiuhcoatl, the family would gather outside of one of the portals that either of them were able to make and step immediately out onto the island.

Serilda glanced around to take in the sight of the festival with a small smile. “Looks like Themmy outdid herself again. No surprise there.” Vandrad’s mother certainly loved to throw a good party, and given the strenuous history of two groups of people that now called the island home, it was no wonder that the du Wolff matriarch would want to give them every excuse to cut loose and have a good time. Shooting Mercury a quick text to let her know where they were, they would wait until the other couple approached.

Upon seeing Mercury, Alexia practically threw herself out of Serilda’s arms trying to reach out to hug her future aunt. The noblewoman passed the little girl off with a smirk and a shake of her head at Mercury’s attire, which was about as “sexy cop” as one could get. “You  know, that looks frightfully close to an altered Rune Knight uniform.”

“Well, ain’t you the cutest little zombie anyone ever saw?” Mythal remarked down at Naomi, who was giggling herself silly. He was holding her by her raised hands, keeping her up as the raven-haired toddler gently padded her feet along the ground, now beginning to walk with the help of her parents. She had been done up in dark green face makeup, with a few black marks to look like knitting. All in all, a cartoonish version of a zombie and Mythal had even put her in a costume that was reflective of the same color and style. He got her right to the stairs and then hoisted her up and into his arms. “In time at all, yer gonna be runnin’ around everywhere, drivin’ us batty,” he told the giggling toddler, leaning in to kiss her cheek.

Opting to go for something that matched his daughters, Mythal had dressed himself like a warlock. A tight, see-through shirt clung to his form underneath a off-gray vest and a crimson cloak ordained with golden markings. The shirt came up into a choker that he tightly secured to his neck. A pair of black pants, black shoes and a leather strap tied around his right thigh. At Serilda’s call, he hastened down the stairs and came around the corner. “And doesn’t mommy look pretty too?” he asked Naomi as he walked over to Serilda and leaned over to give her a quick kiss. He extended his hand out and snapped and, following right after his sister, Big Gren came racing in after her, the ever-happy pup all too excited to join in wherever they were going. Now that he was capable of magically shrinking himself down, he was able to go along with the family more often than not, which made both him and Mythal happier.

A short portal trip later and they arrived at New Rhaegar. The island had been done up in hundreds of Halloween decorations and events. Mythal took a moment to admire the spectacle, even as Serilda remarked that Themmy had gone the extra mile. “Ain’t no surprise there. She’s havin’ to introduce Halloween to different races that pro’lly never had any kind of celebration like it.” Themesycia du Wolff certainly had a penchant for parties and celebrations, seeking very little excuse to throw a bash whenever possible. As Serilda texted Mercury to let them know that they had arrived, Mythal walked over to the nearest booth, where a witchy-looking woman was stirring a pot of liquid. “What’s in that?”

“Oh it’s a magical witch’s brew! Drinking it can bring all sorts of spooky and exciting effects!” The woman insisted, selling her pastime with genuine interest.

“Huh,” Mythal remarked as he picked up one of the cups on the table and examined it. With a slight shrug, he downed the entirety of the liquid. It tasted just like punch. He waited several moments, looking around, looking down at himself and overall just waiting for something to happen. But alas, nothing did. “Guess I ain’t lucky,” he said with another shrug, tossing the cup in the trash and walking back just in time to see Vandrad and Mercury.

“Damn, Mercury that is… uhh…” For the first, obvious time of all the years he had known Mercury, Mythal really couldn’t help himself from ogling her. She had chosen to dress up as a cop, in an outfit that looked like a slutty version of a Rune Knight uniform, and it left very little to the imagination. He’d always recognized that Mercury was attractive but he hadn’t been quite aware of how much he could be attracted to her until that moment. He lost his words for a moment before giving his head a quick shake. “Yeah, very close to a Rune Knight uniform. Any chance you can let Seri borrow that? No reason.”

Cunning is the art of concealing our own defects
    and discovering other peoples' weaknesses.
Mercury was extremely excited about tonight. It had been some time since she’d been able to enjoy a festival in the open without having to disguise herself as someone else or cover her tracks. With New Rhaegar being unknown to the world, it was plenty safe and hidden for the time being. Plus, it would be the first major holiday that her and Vandrad’s people would celebrate on Earthland, and it was one of the more exciting ones. All around, everyone seemed to be really getting into the spirit, with Rhaegarians and Xocili alike dressing up in fun costumes and partaking in the many activities that had been set up all around the island.

Not one to be left out of the fun, Mercury had donned a rather risque outfit that she had modified from a Rune Knight uniform. A bit bold and risky on her part, given the company she’d be keeping tonight, but altogether nothing that would ultimately surprise Serilda or Mythal. Besides, as long as she wasn’t using it to actually impersonate an officer, they probably wouldn’t grumble too much. Enjoying the beautiful, crisp autumn evening, Mercury wandered around the streets with Vandrad as they waited for the other couple to arrive, the two of them simply being a presence and making sure everyone else was having a good time, though there was little doubt they were. When Themmy threw a party, everyone was sure to enjoy themselves.

Before long, a message popped up in her head. “Oh hey, Mythal and Seri are here.” Following the noblewoman’s directions, Mercury led them to the spot where the other two were waiting, very eagerly taking in the sight of Serilda in a cheerleading outfit. She grinned as little Alexia smiled and reached out to her. “Well, look at this little cutie!” Mercury obeyed the toddler’s non-verbal request, stealing her from Serilda. Holding a small child was still a bit of an odd feeling for Mercury, who really didn’t have much experience with kids, but the more time she spent around Alexia and Naomi, the easier it became to adjust. Settling the child on her hip, she gave Serilda and Mythal each a hug, even as they gave somewhat different commentaries on her costume.

“Whaaat? I would never,” was her faux innocent response to Serilda’s observation of how closely it resembled a Rune Knight uniform, the grin on her face all too telling. Mythal was having a more difficult time. For the first time that she’d ever observed he was doing quite a bit of ogling. “Glad you like it, handsome. I’d be more than happy to lend it to you guys. Wouldn’t mind seeing Seri in it myself. I am all over your look, by the way. Are you wearing black nail polish?” Frankly, Mythal looked pretty good dressed up as a pop culture styled warlock.

Returning their hugs, and giving Naomi a kiss on the forehead, she nodded to the station where the drinks were being handed out. “I’ve been eager to try that one out tonight. Get any fun effects?” Presuming Mythal would confirm his had been a dud, Mercury would frown. “Well that’s no fun.” Heading over to the station with Alexia in tow, she got a drink for herself, keeping it out of reach of the curiously grabby toddler hands as she turned her head to the side to take a nice big gulp. It took a few seconds for the effect to settle in, but soon she was seeing ethereal figures floating about. There weren’t a particularly large group of them, only a handful, but she could still see them. “Huh. I think I’m seeing spirits.”

Everyone else was dressing to extreme lengths. Vandrad was not.

He was still in costume, per se but it wasn’t beyond the limits of what he would wear during his everyday life. He’d seen several advertisements for fictional adventurers, brandishing leather jackets, loose and open shirts, dirty khaki pants, boots and equipped with a whip and a bag. To top it all off, a leather fedora for flair. It was a bit extra, he supposed, to some people but for him, it was about as extravagant as he was willing to get. Putting on the outfit, he was not showing nearly as much skin as Mercury had decided to, nor the rest of his family but he was comfortable and that’s all that mattered to Vandrad.

But he was truly happy to see the Rhaegarians and the Xocili were diving headfirst into the culture. Granted they had been educated by people that insisted that the holiday was about dressing scantily, thereby bringing about a variety of scandalous outfits. But he was prepared for that; after all, the Rhaegarians were promiscuous by nature. Vandrad usually found comfort in the Xocili, who were a bit more conservative, even as they continued to learn more about Rhaegar and Earthland in equal parts.

Still, it was good to walk about New Rhaegar and see the excitement in the crowd. Despite the cool air, everyone was out and enjoying themselves, taking part in the festival to its fullest. Vandrad was his usual quiet self but that didn’t keep him from giving people nods of acknowledgement and observing as they partook in several booths, events and favors. It wasn’t long before Serilda had alerted them that they had arrived and they changed their path. They found the other two with kids and canines in tow, looking about as perfectly as a family as one could get. Mercury quickly went and picked up the demanding Alexia, seemingly happy to give her all the attention.

Serilda and Mythal both commented on the very familiar outfit, with the latter seemingly a bit taken by it. Mercury insisted that she would never have such a thing, though her tone was far less than convincing. "Hopefully any bystander in their right mind would understand they were looking at a stripper rather than a designated Rune Knight, given the eccentricities of the outfit,” Vandrad remarked, crossing his arms over his chest.

Mythal had just come back from one of the booths, which apparently had drinks on hand with special effects. Though the Rune Knight Director hadn’t experienced anything special, Mercury still wandered over and took a drink for herself. Following in her stead, Vandrad took his own cup and downed it in one big swig. It tastes just like punch but its effects were quick. He felt his canines grow sharp and pointed and he ran his tongue along them curiously. "Vampire,” he said with a slight lisp. "And you’re seeing spirits? A drink with varying effects for different people.” He nodded to the witch. "Impressive.”

Meanwhile, Mercury would most likely be surprised to see that there was one man standing out among the spirits wandering around. He was hovering just behind Mythal, leaned back as if he was lounging on a chair. A man with slicked back brown hair and a well-shaped beard, he was wearing what looked like armor not dissimilar to something Vandrad would wear. A full body green unitard, adorned with armor pieces over his torso and a flowing purple cape behind him. Several glowing tomes were hovering around him, most of them closed save for the one directly in front of him. He idly glanced up to look around, almost disinterested for a moment, before his eyes came back up and looked at Mercury. He squinted slightly and leaned forward and, upon realizing that she was, in fact, staring at him, he smiled. “Well how about that? There is some magic than can pierce the veil beyond Mythal,” he said with an amused chuckle.

The book in front of him snapped shut and he floated up into a ‘standing’ position. “Nice to meet you, Mercury Arsneault. I’m Quentin Stridor. The guardian of the Soul Stone and… well, now the guardian of Mythal, I suppose. I’ve been excited to meet you and the rest of his friends.”

Conviction never shames nor condemns us.
It calls us back to who we truly are.
“Mythal..!” With a small blush and a rueful smirk, she smacked her fiance lightly on the shoulder with the back of her hand regarding his comment about letting her borrow Mercury’s outfit. Shaking her head, she chuckled at Vandrad’s verbal hope that no one would be stupid enough to mistake Mercury for an actual Rune Knight. The prince was dressed in costume as well, though it was much more generic and not as flashy as other costumes, which was of no surprise. Likely the only reason he’d dressed up at all was because Mercury or his mother bullied him into it.

The group mosied over to where Mythal had gotten his drink and Serilda figured she might as well join them, taking her own glass and giving it a sip even as Vandrad downed his in one go. The Fairy Tail mage grew a set of fangs before their eyes, his adventurer costume suddenly taking on a crossover into vampire territory. Even as Mercury started speaking about seeing spirits, Serilda also started to see them. “Oh, you know I actually got the same spell as Mercury.”

She was only momentarily surprised when a nearby figure spoke and mentioned Mythal’s name, introducing himself to Mercury. Serilda turned and blinked in surprise to see Quentin standing there, making his acquaintance with the Silver Wolf mage. When Mercury finished returning her introduction – which included relentlessly hitting on the admittedly very attractive spirit – Serilda gave him a smile. “Hi Quentin. I guess I can see you now, too. It’s so good to finally meet you directly.” This was quite a pleasant surprise, and one she hoped the spirit would enjoy, as Serilda could only imagine how frustrating or boring it could be to only really be able to interact with one person consistently.

Eventually the small group carried on, making their way through the festival grounds at a leisurely pace to see what all their options were for activities. A game master managed to lure Serilda over to his booth where he was running a shell game of sorts, where a candy was hidden beneath a coffin shaped cup that was then shuffled around with two other identical coffins. Agreeing to take part for the sake of simply being involved, Serilda watched as he hid the candy beneath the central most coffin and the three cups began to mix themselves up. Surprisingly, the game had been enchanted to the point where her Void Sense was unable to penetrate the coffins, meaning that she had a much more difficult time trying to keep track of them.

When the coffins finally stopped moving, all she could do was stare at them with a slightly bewildered expression. “Oh goodness, I have no idea.. Um.. I guess we’ll go with this one?” The noblewoman pointed to the left most coffin and the game master lifted it up to reveal that it was empty beneath. “Darn.” Oh well! It was just a silly game, anyway. Accepting her skull shaped participation token and tucking it away, she stepped aside in case anyone else wanted to try.

“Well, everyone here looks like they’ve been settling in quite nicely. Have they had much trouble adapting to one another?” The question was vaguely posed toward both Vandrad and Mercury. With the societies of the Rhaegarians and Xocili being a bit opposite from one another, she was sure there had been a period of culture shock on both sides.

“Whaat?” Mythal half-complained, even a Serilda gave him a firm smack on the arm. “See, Merc agrees that it’d look good on you.” As if deflecting the blame was going to earn him any leniency. With that settled, Mercury complimented his look and asked about the nail polish on his hands. “Yeah, figured if I was gonna go all in, I may as well go all in. Not usually that I’d wear anything fishnet but here we are,” he said, gesturing idly to the rest of his outfit with his free hand. Moving on, Mercury asked about the brew stand and if he’d gotten any kind of fun effects. “None for me or at least nothin’ I can see or feel. I get the feelin’ that it would be pretty obvious or otherwise where’s the fun?”

Mercury wandered over to the table, followed by Serilda and Vandrad. Mercury remarked on being able to see spirits, Vandrad stated, through the gap between his fangs, that he’d apparently been transformed into a vampire and Serilda got the same effect as Mercury. “Maybe I got that one too since I can already see spirits?” Much to his surprise, though, Mercury stared right past his shoulder and when he turned to look at Serilda she, too, was looking behind him. Of course he knew that Quentin was stuck in the spirit realm and was always hovering just behind him but he hadn’t imagined that the simple magic in the drinks would be potent enough to allow that kind of transparency.

“Well shit, guess yer gettin’ some company then, Quentin. He’s the guy that protected the Soul Stone and all.” Mythal took a moment to explain to Vandrad.

Quentin turned to look at Serilda, equally as surprised to see the Field Marshall could see him as well. “Lady Sinclair. It is a pleasure to finally meet you as well. Mythal has had many pleasant things to say about you and based on what I’ve observed, he downplayed just how truly wondrous you are. I would offer my hand but… being a spirit, it’s a bit… complicated.” He offered a wry chuckle. “But! Now I can feel like I’m actually part of the festivities and that, in itself, is quite the present.”

“Hey, I’m right here,” Mythal added, turning slightly to look back at Quentin.

“Yes, of course, but you, understandably, try not to address me in public as doing so would look odd.”

After moving down the street and observing the several different booths nearby before coming to a stop before another one as a game master did his very best to lure Serilda over to his booth. Apparently he had a shell game, with candy hidden in three coffins. They had been enchanted with magic so even Mythal’s ability to read things within darkened or shadowed areas proved to offer him no benefit when they came to a stop before Seri. Purely out of instinct and guessing, she pointed to one of the coffins and when it was revealed, no candy lay as a reward. She was granted a token for her participation and then stepped aside for the others to try. “Sure, why not,” Mythal said with a shrug. As the coffins danced around the table, Mythal watched them and… really had no clue what was where. As they came to a stop, he looked at Naomi. “Alright kiddo, which one you think?” he asked, leaning down so she could reach the table. The toddler, in her infinite wisdom, stared blankly at the coffins for a moment before leaning forward and gently placing her hand on one, idly fondling it more out of a desire to see what it felt like. The game master lifted the coffin… and there was candy right there! “Good job, darlin’,” Mythal said with a smile as he took the candy and token and held them close for Naomi to grab at and inspect. He, too, then stepped out of the way so that one of the others could follow suit.

    Mercury Banner
Cunning is the art of concealing our own defects
    and discovering other peoples' weaknesses.
It did not take long at all for Mercury’s attention to fall upon a rather curious spectral figure sitting closely behind Mythal. An extremely attractive man, the spirit was surrounded by a number of floating tomes, one of which was opened before him for some casual reading. Every once in a while he’d look up to give a brief glance at his surroundings, until he caught her stare and realized she was looking directly at him. He seemed perplexed by this, which was understandable as most spirits likely weren’t used to anyone perceiving them, before he chuckled and commented his pleasure at the acknowledgement.

Tilting her head curiously, Mercury watched as he stood – or at least, whatever passed for standing when one was spectral in form – and introduced himself, already knowing her identity. As he explained, he was guardian of the soul stone that Mythal had acquired, which meant that he was more or less bound to the Director as well. She grinned. “Well, nice to meet you then, Quentin! I’d say it must be your lucky day, getting another person to chat with for a bit, but honestly I’m thinking it’s mine.” She gave him a rather obvious glance over before shooting Mythal a teasing grin. “You know, when you told us about all the shit with the Soul Stone you conveniently glossed over the part about how attractive Quentin is. Shame on you.”

It seemed Serilda had also gained the ability to see spirits, the woman greeting Quentin as well. They exchanged a pleasant back and forth before a game master coaxed Serilda into trying one of the carnival games. Mercury watched with interest as the noblewoman failed to find the candy amidst the shuffle, and then Mythal took a try. Equally as perplexed as to where it could be, he elected instead to give Naomi a chance to pick one, the young toddler grabbing at a coffin more out of curiosity than any cognizant understanding of what she was doing. Still, she somehow guessed miraculously right.

“Alright, let me give it a whirl,” Mercury said, always down to try little contests. She was almost certain that she’d win, given her genetic abilities, and as the candy was hidden and the coffins began to jump around, the Xocili found that she was, indeed, able to keep up with the movements rather easily. That was, up until her concentration was broken by Alexia, the little girl practically shrieking with delight and bouncing in Mercury’s arms as she watched the coffins shuffle, grabbing a fistful of Mercury’s hair and giving it a yank. Mercury gasped, more out of surprise than pain, her attention turn away to carefully pry her lavender locks from the little girl’s hold with a chuckle, only to find upon returning her gaze to the game that she had completely lost track of the coffin that had the candy.

She gave Alexia a playfully accusing look. “Now there, you see what you made me do? And here I thought I was your favorite aunt.” Picking a coffin at random, she was unsurprised when it came up empty. “Welp, no candy for you, I guess!” Giving the girl a smooch on the cheek, she stepped out of the way of the booth. “You wanna go see Uncle Vandrad?.” Alexia practically vibrated with excitement at the idea, already leaning over to close the gap toward the former prince as Mercury unceremoniously deposited the toddler into Vandrad’s arms.

Then, she turned to the spirit. “Alright then, Quentin! Since you almost never get much company, let’s make the most of tonight for you. I hope you like dancing, cause we’re gonna.” And with that, she led the way over to the area where a small band had been set up, where various members of the Rhaegarian and Xocili people were enjoying themselves to the beat of the music. Since he didn’t really have a corporeal form it was next to useless to try and get him involved in most of the activities, but dancing was something that he didn’t really need a tangible body to do, making it the perfect way to give him some semblance of involvement in the festival. Presuming he joined her, Mercury would find a spot where there was room enough for the two of them and started happily dancing along to the music, fully making eye contact and engaging with him and clearly not giving one wit if anyone thought she was crazy for it.

Apparently both Mercury and Serilda got similar effects, being able to see the spirits around the island. They specifically homed in on one called Quentin, a former wizard that Mythal had explained was once the guardian of the Soul Stone. What was strange, and had been strange, was that Vandrad couldn’t see the spirit. The Director had explained that Quentin resided in the spirit realm at the moment, unable to project himself into their reality without straining his limited power. But usually Vandrad was still able to sense the subtle movements of spirits that he couldn’t see and he hadn’t picked up anything about the Quentin fellow. It was hardly an issue but still a curious one, though the former prince supposed that as a former human, it wasn’t beyond the scope of believability that he just couldn’t sense him. The Ark didn’t exactly provide any additional sensory abilities.

They walked a bit down the street full of festivities, eyeing and studying the different ones. Eventually an overly excited master of games practically threw himself in front of Serilda and charmed her over to his table. It was a shell game; a piece of candy hidden under one of the intricately carved coffins that he would then move rapidly to try and distract the player. If they won, they got candy and a chip. If they lost, just the participation chip and a ‘better luck next time’. Serilda went first, completely flummoxed by the shuffling and blindly picked one, coming up short. Mythal followed after, allowing Naomi the opportunity to pick from the laid out coffins and was rewarded with a treat. Mercury went after him but found herself distracted by Alexia pulling on her hair, putting her back on the disadvantage. Without much choice, she was forced to pick blindly as well and found herself walking away with simply a token. Then she practically tossed Alexia to Vandrad, the former prince haphazardly taking the girl in her arms as she wrapped her arms around his face and gurgled.

"Must you rub spittle all over my cheek?” he asked the girl. Though the question sounded accusatory and would normally carry a tone of dismissive annoyance, his tone was remarkably soft. It was a question that was more teasing than anything else and though his face didn’t show any cracks in his diminutive demeanor, he was clearly unbothered by taking the girl from Mercury. His fiance offered the opportunity to dance with her since he didn’t usually get company and given that she took off to the dance floor, it was clear that he had accepted. While she made an utter fool of herself dancing among their peers, arms up and swaying with an invisible partner, Vandrad turned back to the coffin game. "Now… let’s see if you messed with her just to give me an advantage,” he remarked quietly to Alexia as he nodded for the game master to reset the game. With the candy hidden, Vandrad watched quietly and coolly until the coffins came to a stop. And then, without even waiting a second, he extended his hand and pointed at one.

As it turned over, the glimmering piece of tinfoil revealed his victory. "Well I see someone has a favorite already,” he said to Alexia, flashing her a small, amused smirk that was hidden from the rest of the group. With that miniscule bragging right secured, he walked over to join the rest of the group, glancing over at Mercury and scoffing. "Well, unfortunately for her, she can’t sleep with that one, unless she figures out how to break the spiritual veil.”

    Seri Banner
Conviction never shames nor condemns us.
It calls us back to who we truly are.
Well, Quentin was certainly a pleasant individual, well mannered and quick with a genuine compliment. She gave him a humble smile. “It’s quite alright, I understand. And thank you, that’s very sweet of you to say.” As Mythal teased his spirit companion, Quentin quipped back about the director’s inability to speak to him at all times, if only to prevent himself from looking crazy. Serilda chuckled. “Probably for the best.”

Everyone gave a go around at the shell game that Serilda attempted. Mercury had about as much luck as she had, but Mythal and Vandrad fared pretty well. Granted, Mythal let Naomi pick, making it more of a lucky shot than anything else but that didn’t stop the parents from celebrating. “Good job, sweetheart..!” Seri said with a smile, leaning over to give the dark haired daughter a kiss on the cheek. Mercury, having lost her game due to Alexia’s timely intervention, ladeled some affection on her niece before passing her off to Vandrad and declaring that she was going to take Quentin dancing.

Vandrad made a snide remark about getting spit all over his face, but the former prince was clearly jesting and not anywhere close to upset. He wasn’t the most boisterous individual, but there was no denying that he had a bit of a soft spot for his nieces – though his quieter remarks and expressions went unnoticed by the group at large. Turning back toward the rest of them, he commented about Mercury’s inability to sleep with the spirit and Serilda gave a small laugh. “Careful. This is Mercury we’re talking about. I’m sure she’d find a way just to rub it in your face. Lest you forget that she can control light, and Quentin is technically light based to a point.”

The group continued along, browsing slowly through the games section, since they were already there, and just generally seeing what there was to see. Finding one that looked like it could be fun for the girls, Serilda stopped at one that was a Halloween themed whack-a-mole game, with ghouls instead of moles. As the game master started up the game, Serilda picked up the rubber mallets and offered one to Naomi, holding the other in her hand. Making small faces and doing her best to keep the little girl’s attention, she showed by example on how to hit the little figures as they popped up, celebrating with each successful hit to encourage her daughter to participate and get some motor skill practice.

Though truthfully, Serilda did most of the work. It was a simple game, one that she could keep up with rather easily, and while she didn’t hit every single ghoul her score was still on the higher side of average by the time the machine finished. Stepping out of the way in case anyone else wanted to play, she turned to Vandrad. “I forgot to ask: Is your father here tonight? We didn’t get the chance to reach out to him to see if he was going to make it or not. I know he’s been pretty focused on helping Vriko.”

    Serilda Sinclair
