It was hard to not hear of the Rune Knights during his time spent within this strange world, a group that seemed to act like the police back in his own world but capable of doing good on a more personal level. Joining the Knights hadn't been something he originally considered but as he came into his magic more and was pushed on by the company that he felt, it had become harder and harder to stand by and watch as terrible things happened to innocent people. The choice to finally join the Knights had not been easy for him but the time had finally come for him to try and do something to make the world a safer place. And it wasn't a choice that he was forced to make alone, thanks to Takumi being by his side. So the two of them enrolled together and eventually received instructions to report to the Headquarters in Era to gain their attire and whatever equipment was needed.

Two men approached the large headquarters of the Rune Knights, Sojiro was in a bit of awe at the sheer size of the building that rested on a plateau seemingly overlooking the rest of the land,
"That is much larger than the images presented it." Was the outward observation that he made to his compatriot. The building was grander than he had expected, which was more of a compliment than anything considering the man's standards for things were fairly high. The air had been turning colder in the last few weeks, causing the air to bite a bit more than expected as they made their trek up. As they came towards large doors that could potentially lead into a grand hall of sorts, Sojiro let out a long sigh, "Do you think that we should knock? Or do we get to enter as new recruits?"

Sojiro Sakura was a man of average height, a few inches short of six feet even, with bright blue hair that seemed in contrast to his stern demeanor. Today the man was adorned by a pair of black dress pants, with a jacket to match a white shirt underneath with a red tie to compliment the rest of the outfit. Black oxfords completed the look, along with his normal pair of red glasses framed over his amethyst eyes. A red rose seemed to stick out from the jacket pocket of his outfit but he wore no weapons on his person.

Takumi had to admit, joining what was essentially this realm's version of the police force wasn't something he would've seen himself doing but between the random jobs and training he had been doing so far, getting a more stable job and trying to fit in with this new society more wasn't exactly the worst thing in the world so he joined alongside Sojiro when the man asked. The fact that he would be getting new clothing and equipment to use wasn't so bad either, so far his wardrobe consisted of regular old pants, white shirts and various leather jackets in similar fashion to each other just so he could hold onto the last bit of home he had. He just hoped the uniform would be good, last thing he'd want is to go walking around in some goofy and cheap looking armor.

Any thoughts of it being cheap however was thrown out the window when he laid eyes on the massive structure that was the headquarters. A group who could afford such a massive fortress looking building could spare some money to make sure the grunts don't die so easily. "This is a real fancy joint they got here." He'd comment with a whistle as he followed behind his friend, his eyes taking in the building until they made it to the door that would presumably lead them into the main entrance.

"Worst case scenario, we find the door lock and we gotta knock." Takumi's answer came with ease as he walked pass his friend to the door and prepared himself to push them open to begin their new chapter as Rune Knights. Idlily he wondered just who would be there to greet them, he doubted someone as important as the leader would but with a whole new realm? Maybe they deemed it necessary to meet and vet each new recruit personally? Regardless, Takumi was prepared for whoever was on the other side of the doors.

Conviction never shames nor condemns us.
It calls us back to who we truly are.
If Serilda hadn’t been more than well aware of the stupidities of war before, she was certainly more than well aware of it now. The Voidwalker sighed for what felt like the hundredth time that day, closing her eyes and rubbing her temples. Scourge had provided her and Mythal with quite a number of concerning reports that he’d collected for them, and while she was eternally grateful for the former Dread Master’s cooperation, there was no denying that some of what he’d supplied her with was pure headache material. The more she read, the more complicated things became. Not for the first time, she wondered what had become of Wayland – the man who once was a member of staff for the Magic Council, who went into hiding shortly before Serilda took over the Rune Knights. Neither she nor Mythal had heard from him in the years since, and she could only hope and pray that he was okay.

Recognizing when she needed a break, the field marshal gently closed the file and dismissed it into the extradimensional pocket of Void where it would be safe from prying hands and eyes. She stood with a small stretch, catching movement in her peripheral vision as Xiuhcoatl lifted her head, the wolf’s eyes watching her with curiosity and anticipation. “Come on, girl. Let’s go take a walk.” With a quiet wuff the large hound was up on her feet and trotting happily beside her master, keeping close to her heel without needing to be led on a leash.

The Rune Knight leader decided to make a quick round through headquarters, checking in at various places including the engineering department to see how her eldest daughters, Grappa and Jellisha, were faring. Eventually, she found herself wandering into the entry foyer where Valorie was seated, ever vigilant at the front desk with greeting walk in visitors and recruits, as well as answering phones. While Serilda was speaking with the secretary to see how things were going, the main door opened and two young men stepped inside. One was roughly her height, with blue hair and dressed like he was ready for an interview. The other was slightly taller, with bright yellow locks and a leather jacket. It was only a moment later that the phone rang, preventing Valorie from being able to greet the newcomers. Serilda waved her off. “Go ahead and answer that.”

    “Thank you, my lady.”

Straightening up, Serilda clasped her hands lightly at the small of her back in a leisurely parade rest and approached the two men. While she wasn’t wearing the traditional Rune Knight uniform, the noblewoman was dressed in a professional manner befitting her station: Perfectly tailored black slacks with a white collared shirt and coat, as well a blue leather sash cinched tightly around her waist, the entire ensemble sporting nary a wrinkle. Her pure white hair was pulled back into a regal bun that had not a hair out of place, save for a swath of bangs that hung on one side of her face. Despite her rather stern looking demeanor and muted facial expressions, there was kindness in her crystal blue eyes as she brought herself before them. Following her obediently was a large wolf with thick black fur that had dustings in it reminiscent of a starry night sky, the creature eyeing them both with the curiosity of a puppy without making a full approach.

“Good morning, gentlemen. How may I be of assistance?”

Sojiro would take in the entry hall as the two of them entered, taking in the details before setting his gaze on what seemed to be a receptionist; who was also someone who could help them figure these things out! But before he could even start walking towards the area, his eyes moved to the form of an elegant woman who donned white hair upon her head. Her attire was formal and there was no denying the way that she carried herself but, while he'd like to take more time to try and assess what threat she could hold, something else caught his eye. The large wolf that walked almost beside her had caused him to take pause for a moment, fighting the initial urge to take a step backward from the duo. This world had done nothing but show him weird but new things throughout his time here, really what was a tamed wolf compared to summoning the spirits of the dead?

"Good morning, Ma'am. My name is Sojiro Sakura, and this is Takumi Yoko. We've both traveled here to get our introductions to the Knights. As much as a cliche as this is to say; we are the new recruits. Could you help point us in the direction of someone who could help? Or perhaps even yourself?" Sojiro spoke in a calm, professional tone, with not a hint of joking within the stern man's voice. Of course, if Sojiro had known exactly who he was talking to right now, then he would have tried to find a way to sound even more professional... But his lack of knowledge would be his absolute downfall in this scenario.

Takumi wasn't exactly sure about the uniform standards of this group but he was pretty confident in his guess that this well dressed lady had to be an officer at bare minimum, from the clothing to the stature she carried herself, she had an air of authority to her. The wolf following behind her didn't hurt to make her seem more important, he doubted he would've been allowed to bring a pet alongside him even if it could fight. Although he had to ask himself just what were the odds that an officer just so happened to be here at the entrance right as they came in while the receptionist seemed to be getting a call? Then again, it wouldn't have been hard to have some form of sensors around to detect them with magic and an officer welcoming new recruits wouldn't be the most absurd thing in the world.

Sojiro taking the initiative and introducing them to the woman was definitely welcomed, Takumi had a feeling he would just put his own foot in his mouth talking to someone this high up in his usual causal manner. Still he felt he had to do something to greet the lady, the best he could offer with a two finger salute and a friendly grin as he prepared to introduce himself as well. "Yeah, I'm Takumi Yoko and it's a...." He paused for a second he considered his words for a moment. Would honour be too weird for what could just be an officer? How about pleasure? Yeah, no pleasure would not fly unless he wished to fly out of here via boot kick. "Nice to meet you, Ms...?" He ultimately decided to keep it safe and simple, nice was plain but couldn't go wrong. What could go wrong was that he had no idea what the officer's name was and he allowed himself to trail off so she may inform them of their names as well.

Conviction never shames nor condemns us.
It calls us back to who we truly are.
The two men greeted her cordially, though one was far more formal than the other. The one with the blue hair stepped up first, introducing himself as Sojiro Sakura and the other as Takumi Yoko. He stated that they were two of the newest recruits, and he was hoping she or someone she could point them toward could assist with getting them processed. His companion chimed in immediately after, giving her a casual salute and providing his own introduction, leaving his statement hanging with an invitation for her to return the gesture.

And she did just that. “A pleasure to meet you both. I am Serilda Sinclair, field marshal for the Rune Knights.” As per usual, she kept her introduction limited to just her role within the military structure, as that was most appropriate for the situation. Depending on how well they had done their research into the Knights and the military’s hierarchy, they may or may not already be aware that she was also a noblewoman and one of the four Gods of Ishgar… however, there were only so many titles one could list when meeting someone without sounding arrogant and precocious. While Serilda always carried herself with professionalism and dignity, she much preferred more casual interactions when she could get away with them, rather than being constantly slogged beneath all the pretentious pomp and circumstance that she had to put up with in nearly every other aspect of her life.

The field marshal gave them both a small but genuine smile, offering each a handshake. “Please forgive me for not recognizing your names. Usually I like to look through the files for the incoming recruits just so I can keep up with the progress of basic training, but things have been a bit hectic as of late.” Serilda was sure she didn’t need to explain why everything was hectic at the moment, given the ongoing war efforts. “I can get you both processed. I was taking a break to clear my mind, anyway. I can only read reports for so long before the words start bleeding together.” With a soft, humorous smirk, she gestured for them to follow her, the wolf obediently keeping pace at her heel. She stopped at the front desk where Valorie was just hanging up the phone.

“Could you get me the files for recruits Sakura and Yoko, please?”

“Of course, my lady.” Valorie pulled open a drawer with a number of folders inside, quickly flipping through until she found the ones the field marshal was asking for. Pulling them out, she handed them over to Serilda. “Room two is open.”

“Perfect, thank you so much.” Serilda led them down the hallway a short distance before opening a door and gesturing for them to enter. Inside they would find a fairly standard interviewing space that was rather bare but clean, with a table sporting chairs on either side of it and a small cup bearing an assortment of pens and pencils. There was also a water cooler in the corner with a stack of paper cups on top of it.

Serilda followed in after them, shutting the door gently behind her. “Please, have a seat. Feel free to get some water if you’re thirsty.” She took one of the chairs on the opposite side of the table, Xiuh picking a nearby corner and laying down comfortably. “Before we get started, I wanted to thank you both for joining the Knights. In times such as these, every single person that is willing to step up and help protect Fiore and its citizens is a boon, and while I’m certainly not perfect I do like to try and take every chance I can to impress how grateful I am for it. The next few months will surely be trying for the both of you as basic training will surely put your limits to the test, so I hope you take this time to relax for a moment while you still can.”

“I’ll get you both set up with your uniforms and show you to the barracks momentarily, but first I figured this was a good opportunity for me to get to know the two of you a bit. Reading a file is all good and well, but not as personal. So why don’t we start with both of you telling me a little about yourselves?”
