Hosenka was a wondrous town, full of many sights and events that would attract many a traveler to spend some time within. Its oriental architecture spoke of inspiration from Midi and true enough, many of the settlers here were former Midian men and women. The city was more well known for its spas; naturally occurring steam baths where travelers and rest their bodies and their heads within the hot spring pools. There was a reason that the town was nicknamed Spa Town after all. It was the perfectly place to find leisure or to enjoy the sights of eastern inspired living.

But there was also a rather large building near the south end of the city that many, looking for an especially good time, could find their way to. It was a rather impressive palace of sorts, with a high wall that guarded the entire compound. There was a gate at the front that connected to the street, an oval archway ordained with golden flourishes and crimson banners written in the language of Midi. It loosely translated to ‘Home of the Perverse’, so not to confuse any passerby that may have stumbled within its area. There was a guard but he was more there for show; any that wished to truly enter were more than welcome to, though they were warned about the sights they would lay eyes on.

Within the main hall, as one enters, were several long tables on either side of the main floor area. Large columns sprang up from the floor and rose to the ceiling on either side, with spaces between where doors and other hallways could be seen. The long tables were covered in expensive looking cloth as well as copious amounts of food and liquor. At the end of the hall were two thrones made of gold and velvet metal, seamlessly mixed together in a unique color. The inner architecture was similar to the outside, with several oriental paintings adorning the walls at the end and around. But many lost interest in the sights of the room’s details when they saw the debauchery that was occurring by the people inside. Men and women, all in several different stages of undress, made merry in all the kinds of way that one might consider sinful.

And sitting at the end was a stunningly handsome man. His hair was as red as the sky at sunset, a deep crimson color that easily caught the eye. Gold eyes looked out among the moving bodies and masses, shining with enjoyment as pleasure at the sights. He was wearing a purple silken robe that covered most of his body, save for a bit of his forearms, hands and feet.  Dark tattoos of different colors could be seen on his limbs that carried up and clearly ran over the rest of his body as well. This was Ruzatz, the Prime Sin of Lust – a demon of the highest regard within the realm of Sins. He was also the guild master of the secret independent guild known as Lusty Titans.

“I wish I could just stay here and enjoy this day,” he sighed as he leaned back against his throne. “Balthy!” he called out after a moment.

A man dressed in white pants and… nothing else approached from the side. He was a well cut man, a practical Adonis to look at. He smiled up at the Prime Sin of Lust and bowed his head. “Something the matter, my liege?”

“Unfortunately yes,” he said as he leaned forward once more, tenting his fingers in front of him. “I need you to relay a message to my wife. Something is brewing… and I can’t seem to discern what.”

“You mean… you can’t see it?” The man asked, raising a brow. Ruzatz was known to have fairly powerful precognition abilities and when there was trouble that affected him, he could usually see it clear and true.

“No… which means someone is doing something they shouldn’t be,” he said mournfully. How he hated trouble – he much preferred the leisure of taking part in his depraved guild. But it couldn’t be helped. “Can you make sure she gets it quickly? I may need her to come home sooner than I hoped.”

“Of course, my liege…” The man said, bowing his head. He paused before he walked away. “Does this mean…?”

“Yes, yes – I phrased the wording explicitly so you may also enjoy addressing my wife,” The Prime Sin said playfully, trying not to giggle too hard. Even after all this time and still Balthy felt the need to ask permission. What a gentleman.

But as the man departed, Ruzatz’ face darkened a tad. He’d sensed trembles in the deific realm for some time but they were mere tremors; like trapped beasts railing against their cages. But perhaps they had been warnings of something greater. He stroked his chin and sat back once more, thinking on what to do. He couldn’t do nothing – if he did so, then his paradise would come to an end. And that was unacceptable. No, he’d have to make some moves. But what?

Not All Demons Are Bad Empty Re: Not All Demons Are Bad

Post by Serilda Sinclair 23rd January 2019, 10:56 pm

"Character counts most when duty calls."

Oh, how Serilda wished she were here for leisure.

It had been some time since she’d visited Hosenka, and frankly she could use a spa day. There was much on the Voidwalker’s mind as of late. Ever since Gren had revealed himself to her, Mythal had been disquiet. It was understandable, of course; anyone would be shaken by the knowledge of a loved one believed to be twenty years deceased suddenly being alive. It was a difficult time for them both, Serilda knew, and surely more so on Mythal.

But a part of her couldn’t help but feel there was something more going on. He didn’t seek comfort from her anymore like he used to, and he rarely if ever offered her any physical affection. She had noticed lately that the only real exchanges between them in such regards were primarily coming from herself, even just simple things like holding hands or embracing each other. Their sexual interactions had been halted entirely. At first she’d thought that because of everything that had happened with Gren, which she of course understood. That kind of surprise was bound to make anyone lose their libido for a while.

However, she couldn’t shake the feeling that there was something more keeping him… distanced from her. He had always been the one to initiate things before, and by the time Christmas had come around Serilda had finally reached a point where she was ready to start showing the same levels of ambition. As soon as she started trying though, it seemed, he started denying her attempts. At first it was fine, but the more it happened the more it felt like he was pushing her away. She couldn’t explain it, and admittedly she did beat herself up for it -- the excuses he gave for not being in the mood were always valid. But they still just didn’t set right with her.

She was hurting. She didn’t say as much, but Serilda was feeling a constant… pressure… in her chest, and her gut. A lot of her smiles didn’t feel like they were quite meeting her eyes, even from her own standpoint, and she honestly hadn’t felt this melancholy since shortly after Hugo’s death.

It was loneliness. She knew it was. Most of her days had just been spent on her own. Sure she saw her guildmates quite often, but that wasn’t the same thing. Her best friend, the man she loved and wanted to spend most of her time with, had been keeping to himself. In fact it seemed like the only time they spent together at all anymore was either for jobs, or to work on his training with little Gren -- the pup whose name now was a bit of a sore spot for them both. There were times that Serilda was scared to even say it for fear that it might trigger sorrow in the man.

The only one that seemed to understand her lately was Xiuhcoatl, her ever faithful hound. The wolf was constantly going out of her way to snuggle up to the woman and distract her, or overwhelm her with feelings of love and compassion. More than once the wolf had drawn tears from her mistress. Serilda didn’t know what to do.

And then add to all this her most recent brush in with Arthas, a memory that still haunted her. Serilda was truly starting to believe that he actually was a demon, and a powerful one at that. He hadn’t denied it when she’d called him by such a title, and his cryptic words from their prior meeting added up with the theory. He was bad news, and made zero attempts to hide it. The very thought of him sent shivers down her spine, and she felt herself constantly looking over her shoulder. She already knew that he had the ability to watch her without her being aware of his presence, and that knowledge coupled with his insistent confidence that he wanted her and only her to do some kind of work for him had instilled a sense of paranoia in her that was making it harder for her to sleep.

So, the noblewoman chose to combat all this stress the same way she always did: she poured herself into her work, and her journal. Serilda took job after job, filling her days and only asking Mythal to join her on ones she knew she would need help with.

Currently, her work had brought her here to Hosenka. She passed her favorite day spa, giving it a mournful look of longing as she walked by. Maybe she could come back to it later after she handled this, but her client came first. There was a local shopkeeper that had been getting harassed lately by a group of losers that wanted him to pay them protection money. The man was older, not able to move very quickly and therefore couldn’t really take many measures to defend himself. His wife had recently passed away, leaving him the sole person to run the business which was difficult at his age. He had already lost a lot of money because of those factors alone, and now this small band that very much thought themselves a gang saw fit to capitalize on his misfortunes.

Well, that wasn’t going to sit with her. Her client knew the identities of the group, as he’d set up lacrima cameras as security to catch their faces. And he was aware of where they usually loitered. That was the place Serilda was currently heading, along the way passing outside of the grounds of the Lusty Titan guild hall -- a place that always made her shake her head when she saw it.

What an obscene concept for a guild, she thought to herself not for the first time as she and Xiuh walked by and toward their destination.

It had been an honest to god long time since Ruzatz had been this lost for action. Mostly because actions hadn’t exactly been required in a long time. He’d been able to live his life as he desired, enjoying his more base desires without complication or worry. It had been a good long vacation and it had brought along a lot of positives in his life. He had met his wife first and foremost; a woman that rightfully he should never have fallen in love with but still did. Even more incredible was the fact that she had loved him back enough to say yes to his proposals. Who knew the Prime Sin of Lust was capable of feeling anything but sensuous feelings towards a person but then again, Ruzatz was not like prior Primes. The last one had desired to drown the world in depravity until all life had died from exposure.

Granted, it wasn’t a very well thought out plan. But the former Prime had been known for his strength rather than his mind. Ruzatz was quite the opposite – he never made mention of his magical prowess and rather chose to let his genius be the talked about element. Well, that and other parts that was just as impressive. He was quite good at seeing plenty of potential paths and following the one that led to the best outcome. It had been in his nature since his creation to foresee the future and use it to his, and other’s, advantages.

There had been times when his vision had been blocked but they had always been major movements of the deific kind. Either other Primes were doing something they didn’t wish him to foresee or the gods were scheming something against the demon kind. But this time felt different; it felt like he was intentionally being blocked for no other reason than spite. But every time this happened, nothing good ended up coming from it. Luckily for Ruzatz, fate had a way of dropping the answers or at least the path to ones right in front of him. Payback for his sudden cut off from seeing the future.

The activities in the guild were going to be far too much of a distraction if he were to concentrate and think. He dressed himself fully like one of the humans; a sleeveless black leather top that clung to his body for dear life. It was zipped up to his collarbone, just enough that anyone that dared look would be able to tell he wasn’t wearing anything else underneath. More of his tattoos could be seen; his arms practically full of sleeved colors, each image a different picture or design that held some meaning to him and him alone. He put on a pair of matching black pants and boots, giving himself a full look of one that didn’t wish to be bothered. With a wave to a few of his guild members, he walked out the front door and breathed in deep, taking in the fresh air of Hosenka.

He walked over towards the eastern part of the guild grounds, checking on the flower beds that had been planted along the walls. They were ripe in bloom, their fantastical colors opening up for his eyes to take in. He smiled at the sight of them before he turned towards the front gate, now of the mind to take a stroll. But before he could even enter the frame of the archway, he felt it. A cacophony of emotions in turmoil, with a touch of destiny weaving the notes together. A brow cocked gently as he slowly walked around the pillar of the wall, catching sight of the woman that had already walked by. White hair, with the poise of a nobleperson… and yet beneath her hard exterior, she was in pain. She was also in love, it seemed; such a strong emotion resonated truly bright with the Prime Sin. Looks like fate had intervened once more.

He walked out of the guild grounds and after her, walking at a brisker gait so that he could catch up to her. As he came up alongside her, he flashed a warm but charming grin. “Good morning!” he said, giving her a wave. Then he paused to look up. “Is it morning? I tend to lose track of time more often than not. Can be a real pain when I’m looking forward to a mid-morning stroll by a pond and instead the sun is going down.” Now that he saw her from the side, she was truly quite a striking beauty. Snow-white hair with crystalline eyes. Just his type.

Well, to be fair, everyone was his type. “My apologies, I haven’t even introduced myself. Ruzatz de la Cavallería. Guild master of the Lusty Titans. And who might you be?”

"Character counts most when duty calls."

There was one awkward thing about her magic that Serilda never really talked to anyone about, not even Mythal: Her Void sense allowed her to feel the shapes and movements of practically every living thing within its range. Though she could not make out details like color and the like, she could almost always recognize an item by its shape, as well as know when there were people nearby even though she couldn’t necessarily tell who they were. This was a skill that her best friend and a few others knew of her, of course, and it was a tremendously handy skill to have. It kept her from ever being sneaked up upon nine times out of ten, and helped her to keep track of people around her.

But what she didn’t talk about was the fact that sometimes it also let her be privy to people doing things she didn’t exactly want to know.

Serilda typically kept a wide berth of the Lusty Titan guild hall whenever she was in Hosenka, because she did not enjoy being able to sense all the… activities that happened within its walls near constantly, such as now. Her face was already beet red just passing outside the place, as she did her best to ignore what she was sensing from within. She could not understand how so many people felt perfectly fine engaging in such illicit behaviors all in the same place. Did they have no sense of privacy? She’d had a hard enough time with the fact that Mythal had jumped her in a vacant room at a full blown ball, let alone having sex in one large room with dozens of other couples.

    How horrifyingly humiliating!

Unfortunately, she had to pass this particular guild hall on her way to where she was headed, so there wasn’t much she could do but try to hurry past as quickly as possible. Eventually, she sensed that someone was leaving the grounds owned by the guild, and after monitoring it a bit it seemed like the person was making their way toward her. That was the last thing she needed, of course, but he did manage to catch up to her nonetheless.

Serilda turned when he greeted her, blue eyes resting on an admittedly attractive man with long red hair, dark clothing, and a number of tattoos. He gave her a warm, charming smile and joked a bit about his apparent inability to keep track of time. Alas, his charm was wasted on her for she appeared unmoved, her face maintaining its expressionless demeanor without even a hint of mirth or amusement in her gaze. The only thing that gave away her inner feelings -- aside from the fact that he could sense her emotions -- was the rosiness of her cheeks that betrayed her discomfort with being near the guild and speaking to someone from it.

That discomfort and mild sense of panic only rose when he introduced himself as the master of the guild. Serilda forced a polite smile and raised a hand before her. “Thank you, but I’m not interested,” she said, like she was preemptively fending off a prostitute’s attempt to proposition her. She was clearly nervous about him and his entire guild, not really having a problem with whatever they wanted to do amongst themselves but not wanting to be a part of it. Giving him a nod, she turned and started to walk away again, praying he wasn’t the persistent type.

But of course, prayer was useless around a demon.

Whew! Her hair wasn’t the only thing that was wintry. Ruzatz was actually a bit stunned by the façade of complete noncompliance to his charm, the woman turning as soon as he approached her. He had been rather quiet, hadn’t he? Did she have that sharp of hearing or was it something else? He fought off the urge to smell himself, to ensure that he didn’t reek of the perverse activities going on in his guild hall. Instead he met her gaze evenly, more than a little infatuated her looks. Even through the hardness of her features, she was still what one would call a gorgeous woman. But he knew better than to flirt and/or bed someone that had come before via fate; he’d made that mistake one too many times before. The only time it had worked out in his favor had been in the meeting and courting of his wife.

She declined his offer, which was odd because he hadn’t even put one out there. Was she just not interested in giving her name then? Possible but rather rude to say the least. His smile twisted in humor as she nodded and started to walk away. She was only a couple steps ahead before he walked right back up, matching her speed. “Is it the fact that I’m the guild master of the Lusty Titans? You must think I’m… what, courting you for a quick but expensive hook up? Aye me, not at all. We operate based on a demand and supply mentality – the people demand and we supply. We aren’t the kind that go prowling the streets trying to convince beautiful men and women down some alley for some tender loving,” he said, his impish grin still on his face. It was a little flirty compliment he had thrown her way but hopefully nothing too overstepping.

“No, my business is actually of a more… well, questionable nature. You see, I currently have this problem. I don’t really know what the problem is per se but I know it’s there. Kind of like… seeing a math problem through glasses you’re not meant to wear. The writing is on the wall but damned if I can’t make it out,” he said with a laugh, continuing to walk right beside her. “When I actually find myself stumbling for an answer, I usually wind up with some kind of divine intervention one might say. Or damned intervention – depends on what theology you support or follow. Whatever the case, my problems always have an answer but it’s hard to find that answer. As mentioned before, something or someone comes along that provides a clue or key to the answer I need.” He talked slow enough that she’d understand him but that still didn’t help his case in not sounding like an lunatic.

And he realized it too, waving his hands like he was clearing a chalkboard. “Sorry, I get a bit flustered when I don’t have the answers. My wife is a lot better at explaining things and talking to people than I am. Short and sweet of it is I believe you’re meant to help me find my answer. I promise you it’s nothing you won’t approve of; chances are you won’t even need to do anything. But I was planning on going for a walk to see if I could divine some answer out of the answer and then boom, there you are walking past my front gate. Things like that are never mere happenstance. So I was hoping I could just… hang out with you. Keep you company while you do your… your… what are you doing anyway?” he took a moment to look her over, noticing her rather professional gear and garb. “Job perhaps? He gasped. “Are you a wizard?! That’s even better!”

Post by Serilda Sinclair 25th January 2019, 1:49 pm

"Character counts most when duty calls."

Dear gods, you have got to be kidding me, Serilda thought to herself as she sensed him following her. In just a couple quick strides he was already back beside her and trying to chat her ear off. Serilda kept walking and mostly ignoring him, hoping he would get the idea.

    He didn’t.

Ruzatz assured her he wasn’t trying to persuade her into bed with him, once again attempted to engage her in a humorous fashion. As before, her expression didn’t so much as crack or flinch in any hint of merriment. In fact, with his connection to her emotions he’d be able to tell that it wasn’t even that she was exceptionally good at masking such feelings; she just wasn’t remotely affected by his charm at all. All she did was continue to move forward without even looking at him, hands behind her back and face forward.

Xiuhcoatl peered curiously up at the man, but continued to trot obediently at Serilda’s heels. She clearly wanted to make the man’s acquaintance -- and if Ruzatz was as in tune with animals’ feelings as humans’, he’d be able to sense that the stunning wolf was more than a little interested in greeting him. But, like her master, she kept moving forward and would not approach the man until given permission, though her large bright eyes kept glancing over to him.

Not once during his tirade of speech did Serilda stop him from talking, nor did she make any kind of indication that she was paying attention. Irritation and concern were thrown into the mix of her already crazy emotions, however, betraying the fact that she was hearing every single word he said. On and on she let him go, and he sounded like an absolute nut job talking about having a problem but not knowing what the problem was, and trying to convince her that it was somehow related to her.

He concluded his speech asking about what she was doing, and seemed to get rather excited over the idea that she might be a wizard. It was around that time that Serilda finally had enough of listening to him talk forever. She sighed through her nostrils, keeping a rather impressive reign on her annoyance over the situation. He could probably feel how aggravated she was, but still her face maintained an even coolness that would not have given her feelings away.

“Listen… Ruzatz, was it?” Serilda said, stopping a second time and turning her attention toward him. “I’m sorry you’ve got some kind of issue you’re trying to work out, but I assure you it has nothing to do with me and that I don’t have any answers for you. I’m not interested in any kind of interventions, whether divine or damned.” Either option would spell out huge problems for her. She already had enough on her plate between Arthas and Faera, let alone whatever the hell this guy was on about. She wasn’t necessarily being impolite, but she also seemed to be quite unmoving in her mindset.

“Now if you’ll excuse me, I have criminals to apprehend and it would not do for me to let down my own guild by allowing them to get away before I get the chance to do so.” As before, she didn’t really seem interested in giving him any personal details about herself, though her words were confirmation enough that she was, indeed, a wizard on a job. “I wish you luck with… whatever it is that’s going on. Have a good day.”

Once more, she and the wolf turned and started to walk away.

Ruzatz chanced a glance down at the hound walking beside her, a thin smile coming across his face as he observed the creature. He could sense the pet’s interest and thought about making a move to show his friendliness… but thought better of it. Far too many time had he shown such an eager excitement and had it come back to bite him – quite literally. Besides, seeing how the wolf walked along with her master, it was clear that it was one of the highly trained ones. It would be improper to reach without permission. It was right about at the end of his speech that Serilda stopped once more, turning on a heel to face him. He came to a stop, nearly sliding to a halt before her.

She chastised him, in a very professional, guarded way. She was clearly annoyed by his presence but she didn’t dare show it on the surface. She did a remarkable job of reining it in beneath that steely outward appearance. She assured him that she wasn’t the answer to his problem and that she had absolutely no interest in learning more about it. That was understandable – who wouldn’t react that way to a complete stranger running up and blabbering off like he did? His usual advantage of charm and handsomeness seemed to fall flat against her ice cold frame. He made a note that wit was probably the better route to take when keeping her company. She attempted to depart from him again, claiming she had a job to do; criminals who needed to be arrested and turned in for the benefit of her guild. A wizard, part of a guild and apprehending n’er-do-wells; sounded like he had hit the jackpot for divine intervention.

“You’re right,” he said, his eyes widening in sudden awareness. “We can’t focus on my problem. Doing so prevents the rest of my brain from sorting it out. Therefore, we’ll tackle the one in front of us. I will help you with these savage criminals!” he announced as he once again caught up to her in step, walking at her same pace once more. “I promise you I’m not asking you to do anything. If anything, I’ll just assist you and if nothing comes to fruition to my benefit, I’ll leave you alone. That’s a promise and a guild master doesn’t break his promise,” he said, swiping his finger over his chest in the shape of an ‘X’.

“So for now, consider this a joint operation between… whatever your guild is and Lusty Titan. We are a legitimate guild after all,” he said, snapping on the charming grin once more. “Now tell me more about these criminals. Are they your normal run of the mill criminals that took advantage of situation or are they more connected than that? My guild likes to try and keep as many bad eggs out of Hosenko as possible – this is a nice town and it doesn’t deserve any of the trouble other towns have.”

Post by Serilda Sinclair 25th January 2019, 2:55 pm

"Character counts most when duty calls."

This guy clearly was not getting the picture.

Serilda had never met someone this relentless before, and it was trying her vast reserves of patience. If she weren’t a constant representative for her family and her guild, she might have lost her cool the second he spoke up with any kind of indication that he still planned on accompanying her. As it was a surge of anger rose in her, but it held fast behind her mask with only the barest of twitches in her eyebrow to indicate that she was frustrated.

Ruzatz insisted that he would help her with her intended arrests, and that if nothing happened from the interaction that brought him the answers he sought he promised he would leave her alone afterward. Her jaw tightened a bit and she took another deep, quiet breath to calm herself. “Fine,” she finally said. “Far be it from me to prevent you from addressing delinquents in your own territory.” She wasn’t pleased about it, but she didn’t exactly have the time to waste arguing it with him. Plus, this was his territory, not hers.

“Sabertooth,” she told him simply when he stated this was to be a joint venture between their guilds. His amusing comment about Lusty Titan being a legitimate guild did about as much good as any of the other jokes he’d attempted thus far. Barely resisting the urge to roll her eyes, Serilda walked forward and did not attempt to stop him from following her again, accepting that this was happening whether she wanted it to or not.

“Just a few basic thugs that think they’re a gang,” she told him when he inquired as to the nature of the job. “They’re trying to get ‘protection money’ from some of the shop owners in town. The old baker with the shop on the main boulevard was the one who posted the job listing. According to him, they like to frequent the small casino and bar a few blocks down from your guild hall. As far as I’m aware, they aren’t wizards.”

Against her better judgement, she pulled out her iLac and opened up the photo gallery to the pictures she’d taken of their faces off the security lacrimas her client had installed at his bakery shop. Serilda handed him the item so he could get a good idea of what they looked like. If he was going to help her, she may as well make sure he was prepared and knew what to keep an eye out for. Depending on how closely he was hovering near her or how much he was paying attention when she withdrew the iLac from her pocket, he might notice her background was a picture of her with Mythal, pretty much the only picture they’d ever taken together. Her hair was down, and he was kissing her cheek; a silly moment when they'd both been drinking a bit the first night at her parents' place on Christmas.

The last time he'd really been affectionate toward her.

The image disappeared the moment she’d pulled up the application with the other photos to show him. “The shopkeeper already has all the evidence he needs from his security lacrimas to damn them in court, they just need to be found and arrested.”

Oh he got the picture. Her emotions made it wide and clear to him what her version of the picture was; he just wasn’t accepting the picture as it was. Far be it for him to rail against fate and simply step away from this woman. He felt her anger rise again and he wasn’t honestly sure if she was going to take out her sword and threaten him with it. It wouldn’t be the first time if that were the case. But luckily she wrestled it back down, same with her annoyances with every little thing she said. She had a remarkable power about her to hold in her emotions when she needed to – was that simply for her own reasons? Or perhaps it had something deeper to do with it? More questions, queries and hypotheses. But for the time being, she finally agreed to let him come along, if only under the duress of this being his territory. “Sabertooth,” he reaffirmed, grinning. “Well it’s a pleasure to meet you, wizard of Sabertooth, even if the pleasure is all mine.”

Now that he was taking part in a job – when was the last time that happened? – It was important he know the details. She explained briefly about the baker on the main boulevard and he hummed thoughtfully. “Old master Brevin, yes. His wife just passed two weeks ago, almost to the day,” he said mournfully. “We held the funeral for her a few days after – a Midian ceremony. She was a wonderful woman who made the best loaves in the area.” As Serilda explained that the ruffians liked to hang out at the casino and bar that was only a little ways away, he sighed. “Yes, unfortunately the mayor approved of its building. Thought it would bring in some extra jewel but all its done is attracted the unsavory kind. They hadn’t done anything illegal – or they hadn’t been caught at the very least – so we couldn’t act. Glad to see I finally have some evidence.”

He glanced over to her as she pulled out her iLac and was treated to a picture of her, smiling (who knew she could do such a thing) and being kissed on the cheek but a handsome man. He made a note of it but didn’t say anything as she passed the phone to him, hiding the smirk that graced his face as he glanced through the photos. “Brevin is a good man but stubborn; I’m sure he wanted to handle this by his own means, rather than sending us after them. That or his job posting got misplaced; we just recently updated our board to a lacrima one rather than an actual paper board.” He had memorized the faces of each of the men, nodding to her to verify he had gotten all he needed from the iLac. “Thank you for helping him out. You’re not only doing him a favor – you’re doing Lusty Titan a favor by helping one of our own people.”

"Character counts most when duty calls."

The pleasure certainly was all his. It was possible that Serilda’s darker mood from the things that had been plaguing her mind already had colored her opinion of this man so far, particularly when mixed with the knowledge that he was the guild master of a guild that she did not take very seriously. Unfortunately, she was not exactly in a mindset to acknowledge the fact that she was perhaps being a bit harder on him than usual. She had a lot on her mind, and it was rather ill timing for this strange man to come out of nowhere and insist that she was part of some delusional (or so she saw it) play of fate to give him answers. As far as she was concerned, he was off his rocker.

But there was little she could do. If he was the master of this guild, then he had rights to be involved in the job at hand. “Serilda Sinclair,” she finally told him when he referred to her as “wizard”, knowing it was likely a ploy to get her name again but at this point she didn’t really care enough to argue. Plus it would be rude for her to agree for him to come and then never tell him her name. She didn’t really stop to consider the fact that, as a guild master, he likely frequented her home town in Clover and probably knew who her family was. Her only goal at that point was to keep him from obnoxiously referring to her by vague titles for the rest of their encounter.

He did seem to know who she was speaking of, at least, which admittedly was much to his credit. Even if she wasn’t exactly fond of him so far, she could respect a guildmaster that not only knew the people in the town but also made himself a part of their daily lives. It seemed the casino was a building not well received by Ruzatz, who’d tried to prevent it from being built but hadn’t been able to protest successfully. He seemed quite eager to know there was proof against those that ran it, now -- or at least proof that it was attracting unsavory sorts to the city.

Ruzatz thanked her for her help, to which she merely nodded. “Of course. No honest person should have to deal with this kind of nonsense.” By her tone, she clearly didn’t see her actions as something that was worthy of praise. Serilda was simply doing her job, after all.

It did not take long for them to reach the casino in question. They weren’t stopped from walking in -- it was a space that was open to the public. However, it was clear that they were here on business, if only because Serilda wasn’t exactly trying to hide her intentions. She looked like a cop, and as usually happened when someone of authority entered an establishment that was filled with less than scrupulous people, a tension filled the air. An attendant approached them: a young woman in a shirt bearing an empty tray that was probably used to delivering alcohol to patrons. “I’m sorry, miss. Animals aren’t allowed in here. I’m afraid you’ll have to--”

“The wolf stays. I am here on official guild business and she is my companion. Feel free to try to move her if you wish, but I’m sure you’d rather keep all your fingers.” The woman did, indeed, seem not very keen on being near the animal after that. Serilda held up her iLac with the photos she’d taken. “I’m looking for these men. I’m told they are regulars here.”

A look of recognition passed over her face momentarily, but she quickly tried to cover it up. “I’m sorry, ma’am. We get a lot of customers here. After a while their faces all look the same…”

“Serilda Sinclair,” Ruzatz repeated the name with recognition that she surely had dealt with by now. It wasn’t quite awe or wonder that linked in his tone but there was understanding – he knew who she was. After all, the Prime Sin had a wide network through the world of retrieving information and knowing who people of importance were. Her family’s mines were often a business that some of his business partners indulged in for their own reasons. But where others might have taken the time to compliment or expand upon her name with interest, Ruzatz simply nodded and smiled. There was no need to pontificate on something she probably didn’t want to discuss further with him. Frankly she probably didn’t want to discuss anything further with him.

She took his thanks in stride, seemingly unaffected by the emotion behind it. It seemed this was simply a job to her, one that would bring her reward as well as helping out an elderly man. He couldn’t knock her for acting as much; a guild wizard’s life was all about doing quests to gain glory and riches, to help keep their livelihood alive. But she also wanted to do it the right way, without profiting from other people’s pains. He could respect it and he nodded back in satisfaction.

The casino was… just as it usually was. There was an air about it that just smelled wrong, like they’d just finished cleaning up from some heinous deed in the bar only moments ago. They were able to walk right in, as the open door policy applied to pretty much everyone. Ruzatz paused near the doorway and took a step to look down a hallway leading to the bathrooms. There was another door, marked ‘Employees Only’ near the rear of the hall. It was there that the smell seemed most potent but that was something he’d investigate later. He turned back and joined Serilda as she was bringing up her iLac and asking the waitress about the men.

She tried to play it off like she didn’t know them but it was already clear she did and deceiving either of them was fruitless. But given the short, near violent exchange he’d heard from Serilda about her Star Wolf only a moment ago, he decided to take a different approach. “C’mon koibito,” he said, slipping in some Midian.  Already his best weapon was up and ready; his charming smile in its full effect. The waitress turned to look at him instantly, a wave of happy surprise washing over her face.  “Hanashi o shitai dakedesu. Tabun anata ga watashitachi o tasuketa nochi, anatatowatashi wa issho ni shibaraku sugosu koto ga dekimasu.” Serilda probably wouldn’t feel it entirely but there was a magical tinge in his words. They weren’t deceptive, merely an aroma that seemed to coat his tone naturally. Given her stature, she’d be resistant to it of course – but it was possible that the barest of blushes could mysteriously adorn her face.

The blush on her cheeks was enough to tell what he had suggested to her. Pulling the tray tight against her chest, she grinned back at him. “They’re upstairs in the private lounge. I’ll let the bouncer know to let you in. Then after…watashi wa anata o sa seru koto ga dekimasu,” she said back to the Prime Sin, the waitress not even ashamed. She hurried away, slowing only to look back at the two of them.

Ruzatz grinned and turned to Serilda. “Easy as cake,” he said with a shrug and offered her to take the lead with a wave of his hand.

"Character counts most when duty calls."

He did seem to recognize her name, but did not say anything more except to repeat it in acknowledgement. She was thankful for that. She was also thankful that he wasn’t overly chatty the whole way to the casino like he had been for the walk thus far.

Serilda didn’t need to be an empath to know the server was lying to her. She hadn’t exactly hidden it well. The Voidwalker narrowed her blue eyes at the woman and opened her mouth to say something that surely would have escalated the matter. Serilda didn’t have the time or patience for these kind of games, particularly from someone that was so obviously bad at lying. Before she could say anything, however, Ruzatz stepped in.

At first she was annoyed that he would try to take over, but then a strange thing happened. Serilda could only assume it was his tone, for she couldn’t understand what he was saying and was unaware of any magic being used, but a slight blush came over her face. She frowned and shook it off, confused as to why that had just happened. It’s not like he was talking to her like that… whatever he had just said. She could only assume it was sexual based on the way the server reacted to him afterward.

And just like that, they were suddenly being escorted to the place where the men in question were loitering. The woman promised the bouncer would admit them, and made some sort of suggestive promise to Ruzatz before turning to walk away. “What did you even…” she started to ask, curious as to what he’d said that could make her pull a total one eighty like that. But before she could finish the question, she seemed to think better of it. “Actually, I don’t think I want to know. Please forget I asked.”

He indicated for her to move ahead of him and Serilda did so, wishing to focus on the job and not whatever awkward moment had just transpired. Well, awkward to her -- apparently not so much to Ruzatz or to the more than receiving woman. The two of them followed the server upstairs to the private lounge where there was indeed a bouncer outside the door. She told the man to let them in, and he looked at them suspiciously for a moment. Particularly at Xiuh, who shouldn’t have been allowed to make it this far. But with some whispered insistence on the waitress’s part, he did let them inside.

    “Who the hell are you?”

There was a group of four people sitting around a table, and space where a fifth person had been. Serilda could sense that one in the private bathroom around the corner. She did not answer right away, instead studying each of their faces carefully. They matched the images that had been in the security footage. She felt safe that the one in the bathroom was the missing member, as well. “Xiuhcoatl. Vagt.” Serilda pointed at the closed door and the wolf stationed herself dutifully beside it, ready to give the bouncer quite the rude surprise should he toss open the door if things got a bit rowdy.

The first man who had spoken, who seemed to be the leader of the little group, glared at the woman. He disliked being ignored, it seemed. “Hey bitch, I asked you and your pretty boy boyfriend a question.”

Once again, she barely resisted the urge to roll her eyes, but she did groan a bit at the comment. “Seriously?” Serilda asked, her tone dry and unimpressed at his remark that she and Ruzatz were dating. It was a common phrase that she heard quite often while on jobs with Mythal, but it felt a little more ridiculous at the moment than it had times prior. Why were criminals always so unoriginal? “I am Serilda Sinclair with Sabertooth, and this is Ruzatz de la Cavallería, the guildmaster of Lusty Titans.”

Gods, she felt stupid introducing that guild name in a serious tone. Though Ruzatz may be surprised that she had managed to not only remember his full name, but had pronounced it perfectly despite the fact that she had seemed to not even be paying attention to him when he’d first approached her. “You four, and the friend of yours in the bathroom, are under arrest for extortion.” She was careful not to say the name of her client, wanting to keep him protected.

Unlike most other demons, Ruzatz abhorred violence. His kind was bred for conflict and indeed, there were several times that he had engaged in battles. While the realm of Lust wasn’t an overly violent one, there were a few that believed they could overpower the others to gain power. It always ended up backfiring on them in the end though – far more were on the side of perverse enjoyment than radical violence. So he could already sense that Serilda was probably going to take a more intimidation, no bullshit standing when it came to the waitress. Though he disliked throwing his weight around, he didn’t really want the matter to escalate here if he could deter it.

Serilda didn’t seem to understand the language he was using – no surprise there, most people don’t just know Midian off hand. As they were led towards the private room, she seemed to curious to how he managed to convince the woman to let them go but then walk backed, asking that he forget that she asked in the first place. He chuckled. “Sure thing,” he said simply, shrugging and putting his hands in his pockets. The funny thing about Ruzatz’ abilities were the fact that the more time he spent around a person, the more he imitated the kind of person they were attracted to. It wasn’t an active choice he made, nor was it an ability he could control. It came from his power reading the signals a person was giving off and adapting his form to it. It was entirely meant to attract mates but luckily, it wasn’t in full effect at the moment. But the Voidwalker may have noticed the hands in his pockets being similar to the way Mythal thrust his in his own pockets.

They made it past the bouncer, though he eyed them warily. He kept a special attention on the hound, as the waitress had already made it clear that he shouldn’t be allowed. But all that was forgotten the minute the man decided to speak up and ask who they were. The Prime Sin stood there and watched as Serilda barked a command at the Star Wolf and she took up a guard position at the door, to ensure they weren’t disturbed. Then as the man asked again who they were, he opted to use some unsavory words to describe Serilda. “Language,” he said, lifting a finger and wagging at him. It didn’t bother him that the Voidwalker was unimpressed about the assumption they were together – it wasn’t the first time and certainly wouldn’t be the last.

She presented them both to the men professionally, nailing his name and title like it was practiced. He gave an impressed nod of his head as she continued, placing the four men under the arrest and referencing one in the bathroom. “Whoa, how’d you know?” he asked wondrously, taking a few steps forward towards the door. Now he had to check! But it seemed her attitude had gotten on the bad side of the men, as the four jumped to their feet and split off, two coming for him and two for her. He ducked the first side punch at him, easily dropping down and back up. As the second one came in, he caught the fist in his palm and clenched his fingers down on it, keeping him pinned. He turned his body slightly just in time to catch the other punch from the first man, essentially locking them both. Then he tugged his arms inwards, bringing their faces close to his.

“Now, now gentlemen – it’s rude to double team a guy without asking,” he said, more of his magic escaping. His words spread through the room like honeyed nectar, adding a heat and warmth that would bleed over to every occupant. Hazy images perhaps could appear in their heads, distracting them or at least concerning them. The two men in front of him got the brunt of it and fell to their knees, their eyes rolled back into their heads as they were blinded by the perverse images running through their minds.

"Character counts most when duty calls."

Serilda hadn’t really cared about the man’s choice of words for her -- it wasn’t the first time she’d been called a bitch, and it certainly wouldn’t be the last -- but Ruzatz was unimpressed with it, chastising the criminal with a motherly wag of the finger. What he was impressed with was the fact that she knew there was a fifth person in the bathroom. He even went so far as to try and go walk in on the guy just to confirm he was there, but that only wound up sparking a fight.

The four men leaped to their feet, two going after Ruzatz and two going after Serilda. With a sigh, she let the first punch just fall right through her body. In fact, the man’s entire body fell through hers as he’d put his whole weight behind the blow only to stumbled forward when it met with zero resistance. The second man attempted the same thing, but after picking up a baseball bat and trying a swing at her. It, too, hit absolutely nothing and merely swished through her body like it was air.

Boy, they were sure looking scared now. “What the hell?” the man with the bat asked, stumbling back with wide eyes. At some point the door had crashed open, the bouncer practically ready for something like this to happen, but he was immediately taken down by the waiting Xiuhcoatl.

“This would go a lot easier for you if you’d just--” Her voice cut off as an odd sensation washed over her. She was entirely oblivious to the two men who had attacked her -- who were currently falling victim to the same spell work. A very specific kind of heat roared to life in her body out of nowhere, and with it a strong sense of panic. Why was she feeling this way all of a sudden?

In the blink of an eye, vivid images came to life in her mind. She could see them all clearly like she watched each in turn, though all of them assailed her at the same time. It was like she was reliving all her most notable sexual encounters, or even living out fantasies as some of the things she saw were things that she knew had never actually happened before. Several were with Mythal -- the time in the desert and at the hotel, the morning shortly after Christmas. An assortment of emotions roiled violently within her from the memories of those encounters, mixtures of anger and confusion, and a deeply loyal, unwavering love. Almost immediately following it was pain and a growth in confusion, a sense of loneliness, and a near total lack in self esteem and confidence.

But that wasn’t the worst of it. There were also images of Hugo in her mind. In the matter of only a few second she relived their last couple times being together sexually, and scenes played in her mind from the few times she’d allowed herself to daydream being able to see him again and be with him. It was like he was standing right there. She could see him, feel his body and his warmth, hear his voice like it was talking into her ear again. She could smell his scent, feel his breath on her skin -- all things she’d almost forgotten after nearly five years.

The turmoil in her grew as an overwhelming, gut wrenching heartbreak that could only come from grief and loss consumed her. She stumbled backward, wide eyed in fear and panic. “Stop..!” Serilda said, clutching her hands to her head. She was so blind to everything but what the magic put in her mind that she backed right into a bunch of boxes and items lined against the wall, knocking everything over and nearly toppling over herself. Tears were streaming down her face as she fought the images and the magic wildly.

This was not natural magic. There was no way, though she wasn’t fully conscious of that right now given her current focus. Her emotions swayed back and forth between the intense pain, grief, and loneliness she felt, and the absolute rage from the fraction of sanity she still held to that this was being forced on her. “STOP IT!” Serilda screamed desperately, scrambling against the wall to try and keep her balance and only managing to fall onto her ass.

And then all at once the images were gone, and the perverse sensations that had started everything left along with them. She sat there trembling with her head in her hands, sobbing quietly through wide eyes while her mind desperately tried to catch up with what had just happened. All sense and care toward the job she’d come here to do had been thrown out the window. Even though the active effects had stopped, however, that didn’t stop her from still vividly remembering everything she had just seen and sensed, like she’d just awoken from an incredibly intense and lucid dream. She tried to get herself under control, but was having an extremely difficult time doing so.

Truthfully, Ruzatz had forgotten how potent his Curse was. He rarely used it actively – the effects of which were more passively focused than anything else. It required very little focus or manipulation for him to include a bit of seductive magic in his words or actions and then his Curse did the rest of it. But it had a major drawback – it affected everything. It didn’t matter if they were ally or enemy; they would get caught up within the haze he created until he actively stopped using it.

So in this instant, he had forgotten that Serilda would get sucked into the spell as well. He held the men by their arms, making sure they got a good whiff of the magic. With enough, they’d fall into stupors that would only fade after a day or so. Miniature comas filled with lust-filled fantasies and other perverted daydreams they may have taken part in. Only once they had been rendered useless, both of them going completely limp, did his magic begin to cease even the slightest. But by that time, the rest of the room had been swallowed up by heat of his Curse. He chuckled as he looked down at the two but his humor was quickly misplaced by concern. He heard Serilda demand him to stop softly, his eyes snapping up to see her backing into several items that had been stacked against the wall. She wasn’t filled with pleasant visions – there were tears in her eyes.

“Shit,” he realized as she yelled out, and he waved his hand. Immediately his magic began to return to him, the haze shrinking out of the room and into his palm. He collected it all within himself until the room was dry once more, back to its normal state. The two men that had attacked Serilda were on the ground, twitching slightly. As for her, she was sitting on the ground, her head clutched by her hands as she wept. He inhaled sharply, mentally punishing himself for his quickness to cast. This is why he rarely ventured out of the guild hall – his Curse was so potent that it could render all useless. And for some, it would highlight pains right along with pleasure. “I’m sorry,” he said aloud to her, his eyes losing their luster. “I didn’t mean to get you caught up in that. My magic… I forget how powerful it is sometimes. I should have warned you,” he said softly, shaking his head.

He walked over to the door and swung it open, looking for the man that Serilda had picked out. He was half out the window, his body limp over the frame, as the magic had affected him as well. Ruzatz sighed and grabbed a fistful of the man’s shirt and hoisted him back inside, carrying him into the main room and depositing him on top of the other two. “I uh… think this is all of them,” he said, scratching his head. “It’s… probably best if I leave.” Boy, he’d made a mockery of this job. He hurriedly walked out the doorway, giving Serilda ample berth as well as Xiuhcoatl as he headed down the way and out of the building.

Post by Serilda Sinclair 27th January 2019, 3:40 am

"Character counts most when duty calls."

Serilda barely heard his apology, nor his explanation. His words floated in her head without really sticking while he moved over to the bathroom and got the last criminal, pulling him out of the window where he’d been trying to escape and dumping him on the ground with the others. Ruzatz dismissed himself sadly and hustled out the door. Xiuhcoatl, who had been just as caught up in everything as her mistress, didn’t make any attempt to stop him. The only reason she hadn’t been slumped into a stupor herself was because her empathic bond with Serilda had kept her more aware than the others caught up in the magic.

The wolf shook her head and hurried shakily over to Serilda, whining softly and shoving her face against the woman in concern. She could feel the anguish radiating from her mistress. Serilda pulled the animal close and cried into her thick fur, holding her tightly. Slowly, her mind started to clear and it hit her that there was something wrong about what had just happened. Charm magic existed in the world, yes, but nothing to that scale -- not that she knew of, anyway.

But it was something more than that. A sense of familiarity nagged at her, which was infuriating because she’d never been exposed to anything like that before. How could it feel familiar? But there was something distinctly non-human about it, the knowledge of which just set her into a further panic. It took her a minute or two, but when she placed it dread filled her.

Arthas. It had felt like Arthas’ magic. Not the manifestation of it, because the man that had been following her around used ice centric magic, and this was entirely different from that. But the weight of it, the… taint of it was the same. Arthas had not confirmed with words what his heritage was, but he’d certainly not denied what she’d accused him of being.

Suddenly, this whole situation felt all too coincidental. She forced herself up to her feet, ignited with a newfound rage. Truthfully, it was the mixture of everything that had just happened, along with everything that had been going on up until this point, that had pushed her to such an uneven temperament. Stress was a dangerous thing, and while Serilda normally handled it well the nature of the stress that had been plaguing her lately was arguably the hardest kind for her to cope with. She couldn’t leave these men here unattended, but she also couldn’t allow Ruzatz to leave just yet.

Walking out of the door, she shut it behind herself and Xiuh. Then, she used her magic to lock the door and fortify the walls, floor, and ceiling in their room, removing all the empty space within the barriers until they were hard as stone. There was no way anyone would be getting in to help them, and no way they would be leaving until she returned and undid the magic.

Serilda stormed down and out of the building, simmering with enough anger that she couldn’t even think to wipe her face dry. She still hadn’t figured out Ruzatz’s connection with emotions and empathy, but he would surely know that she was coming for him. He had not gotten far enough out of range of her magic yet for her to lose track of him, so she knew exactly where he was and was heading straight for him, holy sword in hand.

When she finally caught up to him in an empty back alley street where no one else was nearby, Serilda did not attack him. In fact, she kept a reasonable distance from him. He’d be able to sense the anger in her, but also the absolute fear that rocked her to her core as she set her blue eyes on him with a knowing look. She understood what he was, and was absolutely terrified by that knowledge, but had tracked him down anyway because she had something she needed to say.

“I don’t know what kind of game you guys are playing at, but it stops here,” she informed him, her voice still shaky from what had happened back in the casino. Her face was red and splotchy, her eyes still filmed with moisture from crying. “I know what you are, and I want you to leave me alone.”

It was evident by her tone that the “you” in this case wasn’t speaking specifically to Ruzatz, but rather was more of a general usage of the word toward his kind. “I am not a pawn, or a… a toy, or some animal to be tracked and monitored. So if you’re working for Arthas, you tell him from me that he better back off and stop following me around and having me harrassed. I am not interested in consorting or working with demons, and he needs to get that through his thick head!”

The only thing she could think of was that Ruzatz was some kind of agent for the other demon. It was just too convenient for this red haired man to simply waltz up next to her spouting off some vague and random nonsense about needing her for answers, and insisting on staying by her. Her last encounter with Arthas had made her beyond paranoid, and since she knew nothing about the demonic pantheon she had absolutely zero idea that it was just as varied and dynamic as any human society. The only conclusion she could come to in that moment was that Arthas was simply trying to come at her from another angle than before, sending someone else in his stead. He had promised to leave her alone, but his promise had left plenty of room for him to just come at her indirectly instead.

It would be the demon thing to do.

Well, this was a right mess.

Ruzatz could not recall the last time he had screwed up this bad before. He’d tried to do some good, tried to help this woman out in her job to arrest some criminals and what had he done? He had practically caused her to have a mental breakdown. Rightfully, he wanted to go over and offer some words of encouragement but… the rage that was building inside of her was potent and volatile. Given how she felt about him already, there wasn’t much in the way of comfort he could offer. It was probably best to leave her to her own devices and allow her companion the opportunity to help. He was already chastising himself harshly as he walked through the bar, the waitress coming up to see him with quite the excitable face.

“So.. are you-?” She started, more than ready to follow through one some of the words they had exchanged earlier.

“Huh…?” he asked, slightly confused. Then he remembered, a look crossing over his face and he offered her a meager, weakened smile. “Sorry koibito. Things got a little rough in there. If you’d like to come by the Lusty Titan guild a little later, I’ll hopefully be in much better spirits,” he said, reaching out and putting a gentle hand on her shoulder. There wasn’t much magic in his tone or touch but she could see the sadness in his eyes. She nodded gently, understanding and stepped aside to let him pass.

He didn’t go right to the guild; now he really needed a walk to clear his head. Had he thought wrong? Was his getting involved with Serilda’s mission just a hindrance rather than divine intervention? He sighed as he continued down his random path, his eyes trailing the ground in contemplative wonder. He barely felt her presence as she raced after him, apparently wanting to chastise him further. He couldn’t really blame her so he came to a halt and began to turn. That’s when he truly felt it – the sheer rage that was boiling deep inside of her. Had he felt someone with so much anger before? On a few occasions there had been moments; the only one that came to mind is when his wife had to confront her former godly lover over his rather controlling mannerisms.

His eyes widened a tad as he spotted her sword in hand, ready for battle. It was glowing with a divine energy that was most uncomfortable. So she also had a holy sword; that was interesting. The golden orbs flicked over to meet her angered gaze. She didn’t charge at him – in fact, she seemed more inclined to keep her distance of him. After the magic she had just experienced, he couldn’t blame her for that but there was something else. A deep fear that seemed to be fueling her anger as well, mixing in with it and making quite the volatile concoction. She spat her words at him, accusing him of playing a game. Wait, it wasn’t just him but instead she made it plural, like he was working with someone. “What…?” he asked as she kept on, stating she knew exactly who he was and demanded he leave her alone.

So she could sense he was a demon then? Well, the cat was out of that bag then. He opened his mouth to offer an explanation but she continued, claiming herself not some pawn or object to be toyed with. Then that name; Arthas. Before she could even finish her words, Ruzatz was sighing and shaking his head. So that’s what she meant by ‘guys’ – the Prime Sin of Wrath had tracked her down and decided to play a game with her. The prick was always finding some way to entertain himself by manipulating and using humans for his own benefit.

“Listen… Serilda,” he started, holding his hands up innocently. “I don’t know what Ozorith… I mean Arthas… did to mess with you but I’m not a pawn of his. If anything, I try to keep as far away from that asshole as much as possible. I’m not his underling, I’m just…” he took a moment. Was she really prepared for this kind of news? Most people had a hard time wrapping their heads around it if they weren’t caught up on their demonic lore. At the same time, he couldn’t not explain – he’d already started it. “Ozorith and I are… of the same level, I guess is the best way to put it, within the hierarchy. You’re right in your assumptions; I am a demon. But I’m not just any demon – I’m the Prime Sin of Lust,” he explained as humbly as possible. “Arthas, as you know him, is also a Prime Sin. The one of Wrath. He… has a tendency to like to screw with people. It makes him happy and makes him feel superior. I, on the other hand, don’t get a sick enjoyment out of that. I know you won’t believe me – comes with being a demon I guess – but I’m not like my brethren. I don’t seek to cause humans mayhem or pain. In fact, I adore the human world. It’s why I took a human wife, it’s why I set up a guild for humans to join – I think humans are a blast. It’s demons that are generally dicks… and gods.”

He sighed once more. “Look, I won’t bother you again. But you deserved an explanation.” But before he left, he had to give her one last warning. “One bit of advice though; stay away from Ozorith. He’s bad news. I know you don’t trust me but I’m being completely honest here; he’s not someone you want to mess around with.”

"Character counts most when duty calls."

He eyed her sword as she approached, giving it the same unmoving but wary glance that Arthas had when they’d first met. In truth, that was part of the reason she’d withdrawn it to begin with. Serilda didn’t have any intentions of attacking Ruzatz, but she wanted to see if he reacted to it the same way the other demon had -- and she wanted it out just in case he turned hostile when she confronted him.

Aside from a small moment to voice his confusion, Ruzatz did not interrupt her as she made her statement. It was only once she’d finished that he raised his hands up in a show of peace and assured her he wasn’t a part of… Ozorith’s crew? Serilda frowned. Was that Arthas’ real name? She’d assumed he had given her a fake one, but apparently the alias she knew him as was more well known than she had assumed before.

The demon before her paused for a moment, caught up with his words and looking like he was trying to decide how much to say. Ruzatz explained that he and Ozorith were the same level of demon known as a Prime Sin -- a term she’d never heard before, but the way he talked about it made it seem like it was a pretty big deal. Ruzatz held the domain of lust, which was no surprise given his guild. And Ozorith, or Arthas as she knew him, held the domain of… “Wrath..?” she asked, her tone quiet and confused.

Ruzatz claimed he wasn’t like other demons. Where Ozorith and others like him enjoyed manipulating mortals and using them, Ruzatz seemed to feel a kinship and adoration for them. He even claimed that he was married to a human woman, though what human in their right mind would willingly marry a demon was beyond Serilda. The very thought appalled and horrified her.

Serilda listened silently right up through his final words. He freely admitted that she had no reason to believe him, but assured her that she needed to stay far away from Ozorith. A sickening sensation settled in her stomach. Just what kind of demon was Arthas, that even in the demon world he was considered so clearly reprehensible? And why would he choose to come to her, of all people, to offer her work?

“I never asked to have anything to do anything with him. I don't want anything to do with him. He showed up of his own accord,” she told Ruzatz plainly, though her voice was lower and had lost much of its venom. Her fear and confusion were starting to overcome her anger. For a moment Serilda simply stood there and looked at him, her blue eyes still hard but searching. “I don’t understand. What is a Prime Sin? And why would a demon of wrath take an interest in me?”

She didn’t necessarily trust Ruzatz. Well, she didn’t trust him at all, but she was still curious what his answer would be. This rabbit hole was suddenly starting to look a bit deeper than she’d originally thought, and it was not a reality that appealed to her. In fact, she was desperately having to fight against the desire to jump straight into denial about it. After all, what if this had something to do with Faera? With Mythal? She’d had no encounters with any creatures like this before becoming a part of his life, and now they were popping out of the woodwork. There was no way that was a coincidence. She needed answers, and even if she didn’t trust the demon before her he could still give her information that would help her sort it all out.

Luckily she didn’t seem keen on attacking him with the sword, choosing instead to hold it as a means of protecting herself in case he got rambunctious. He couldn’t really blame her on that front; demons did tend to act rashly when found out. Yet he wasn’t like most demons, now was he? He held his ground and went into his explanation, telling her as much as he was willing to without hindrance or pause. Her being the target of Ozorith proved that she did have a tinge of fate about her, one that he was meant to encounter but to what end? There was no telling and frankly, investigating it further could bring back danger to him and his. Last thing he needed was for Wrath to unleash his full potential and cause some wanton destruction.

Obviously she had questions, statements as well. She didn’t want to be a focus of Ozorith but who ever really did? He didn’t choose people who’d welcome him into their lives after all. But he seemed to be stalking her, finding ways to get into her head and make her wary of all things. Though he had a feeling she’d be just this angry if Wrath hadn’t been visiting her. Ruzatz sighed and dropped his hands slowly, letting his arms rest at his sides. She wanted to know what a Prime Sin was – frankly that was a longer story and explanation than he cared to get into. But he could give her enough information to sate her curiosity, if only for now. “Prime Sins are considered the leaders of their prospective realm. I’m the Prime Sin of Lust so I command over the realm of lust, issuing orders and keeping control to the succubi, incubi, sirens – whatever creature uses lust as a means to an end. My realm is a bit more… lax in compared to others, when it comes to schemes. Whereas Ozorith… well, he is the Prime Sin of Wrath because that is his greatest weapon. And he generally notices people with deep wells for anger.”

He let that bit of information sink in about herself as he sighed and scratched his head again. “Listen, if you want more information, I suggest you seek it out yourself. There’s so much I’m allowed to reveal before I put my friends and family in danger as well. Just… try to avoid Ozorith as best you can. And when he does bug you, give him no ground.” His eyes met hers again and a soft, sad smile came across his face. “It was nice to meet you, Serilda Sinclair. I was right about us meeting – I just wish it was for better reasons. I know you’ll never take up my offer but if you ever need anything, please let me know. I owe you one for… everything that happened. And who knows, I might just be the key to unlocking a problem for you too,” he offered with a somewhat bashful shrug.

And then he was off, turning his back to her and continuing down the alleyway. But there was no rest or reassurance in the mind of the Prime Sin. Only more questions and concerns. Fate had gone dark on him and now a target of Ozorith just happens into his life? No, that wasn’t just happenstance. There was something deeper going on and it seemed he would have to investigate deeper. But for now, he needed to rest – this day had worn on his mind thus far and he needed a bit of stress relief. Hopefully his wife had gotten the message and had come to speak with him personally.

He felt he needed her embrace more than any other right now.
