    Alba
I'll turn your tears to roses.
"So… this is it, huh?" Albafica muttered to himself as he gazed upon the gigantic building rising before him. To think that not too long ago he was still on the other side of the spectrum, willing to destroy the very faction he was planning on joining today. He was hesitant, despite having made up his mind on which path to walk. After all, how would they react if they recognised him? Would that man forgive him his deeds, that looked more than just evil within the eyes of the unknowing? The sound of his footsteps faded as he stopped a fair few hundreds of meters away from the main gate, his gaze pinned on the building. Even now, the damage Crimson Fang had done to the Rune Knights was still awfully visible, a cheer amount of available manpower tirelessly working to fix the traces of the raid. It showed that the events had not shaken their resolve one bit. Admirable. Maybe he should strive to do as such, too.

The golden key around his neck vibrated against his skin; the metal warm. He wore it underneath his shirt, to keep it out of others' line if sight. You never knew when the gold would attract unwanted attention, and every consequence possibly connected to its discovery. And if anything, the azure-haired youth would defend Aerowynn with his life. But it brought Albafica solace, that even if he were to be rejected, he wouldn't be truly alone anymore. His fingers wrapped around the key, squeezing it softly. There was no time to dwindle much further; if he couldn't do it now he'd never do it. So reluctantly his small silhouette made its way towards the gates, and was stopped by the sentries guarding it. Albafica could see it in the elder one's eyes that he wasn't amused upon seeing his ragged self; which wasn't all that surprising to the youth. A simple, off-blue tunic, dirt-colored pants, and somewhat decent brown boots. His forearms were bandaged up to his wrists, leaving ample room for moving them properly, but contrasted strangely to his innocent-looking eyes. However, his clothing looked a stage beyond worn, and that, despite his girly, childish face, was enough for the guards to regard him as rabble trying to attempt at mischief around the building. Or even worse, within. He recognised the hidden emotions behind said look, and instinctively Albafica braced himself mentally; for this man wouldn't be an easy one.

"You have no business here, kid. Get lost!" The man growled, taking a step towards him. Albafica remained standing, not budging an inch. "I can't. I have bus-... I'm looking for a rugged man, going by the name of Ragnos." He said, staring up at the man. God he wished he could use his magic here and size this soldier up. Literally. The guard looked surprised, turned to exchange a look with his colleague, and then focused his attention back to the azure-haired kid in front of him, shaking his head. The pole of his spear shoved the youth back rather roughly. Of course you do. But General Ragnos has no business with a kid like you, I'm quite sure. Now move along!" Keeping himself upright, Albafica stumbled back, and quickly regained his footing, getting closer once again. "No. I won't leave until I get to speak with him!" he exclaimed, glaring at the older soldier. This time however, his comrade stepped in. "Now listen here, kid. Either you turn around and go back home, or we'll be taking you into custody for obstructing an officer on duty, got that? So scram before I really lose my patience." The tone in his voice had grown increasingly dark, the impatience rather audible within it.

Although he didn't want to, causing a fuss here wouldn't help plead his case. Reluctantly, Albafica disengaged from the discussion ensuing with the two guards, and turned back on his steps, walking back down the road. If he couldn't get in asking nicely, he'd find another way... no matter what, he had to get in. As another Rune Knight passed him by, Albafica stopped to gaze at the private soldier, and his eyes flashed curiously. Yes. That would do perfectly.

    ---

He once again found himself in front of the two guards, looking both straight in the eyes as he moved on in closer. Both looked him over, saw the emblem on his chest, and nodded in greeting, as if they'd known him for years, allowing him to pass without any issue. As soon as he'd passed the two guards and proceeded far enough into the courtyard, Albafica couldn't help but grin. A simple illusion was all it took to gain easy access. Although "simple" might've been an exaggeration. It was something he'd learnt to do after having revived in the blood pools of Nightmare; he could change his appearance; his blood type, his voice, even how his magic felt to others. And that came in handy today. All it took was to talk to the Rune Knight going back to headquarters, mentioning someone nearby was in trouble, and then disguise himself with an illusion to look like the man himself. Easy as that. He wondered how much time he'd have before the actual soldier returned to HQ, so hid in the shadows to undo the illusion. It seemed that there weren't many people inside the courtyard, which meant that he had free game until then. Now, where should he go to next...? Albafica's turquoise eyes scanned the area carefully, searching and taking in the environment. If he had to hide, he knew where to go to now. As long as he could steer clear of anyone else.

    “God, this is boring.”

It had been yet another uneventful day in the Seal of Light’s life, which seemed far more often than not. There was a certain unfortunance that came from being attached to the soul of a police officer, for lack of a better description. Mythal was unlike other people within the Rune Knights but he still had duties, especially since he was some kind of general. That meant he had meetings and reports and responsibilities to check on things that just couldn’t be further from the Lightbringer’s interest. He had suspected that the rise in meetings lately had been so Mythal and Serilda could actually have alone time with one another, without either Seal harping at them. If it was, he hadn’t caught any actual evidence despite his trying. He’d attempted to sit in on several different meetings but each and every one had bore him to death.

So rather than waste time on a silly investigation that would only lead to more trolling, he had ventured away from the current meeting to wander about the Rune Knight headquarters. With his powers slowly starting to build up in strength, he had enough reserves to travel quite the distance from Mythal before he reached his limit. It gave him ample opportunity to roam the complex, whistling as he walked along through the hallways. At this point, most of the Rune Knights had been warned about the lingering Seal and his antics in both speech and insults. No one was ever really surprised to see him, though many turned the other way to avoid him or simply walked by and ignored him. That was fine – a boot had no time to toil with an ant unless it was for entertainment.

But unfortunately, nothing else was happening. It was one of those settled and relaxed days that proved to be utterly dull. He sighed and rolled his eyes as he easily passed through the outer walls and stepped into the courtyard, catching sight of several Rune Knights training in the yard. He idly lifted himself into the air and floated up onto the roof of the nearby stable, walking along the uneven surface without ever really touching it. It was on days like this that he did have time to reflect on his current situation though; as he came to a stop near the end of the rooftop, he settled down onto it, hanging his legs off the edge and starting nonchalantly at the front gates.

Mythal didn’t quite understand the weight that came from their peril. Kingdom Darkness was out there and, what was worse, he and Serilda had pissed off its ruler. Faera was powerful, as were most of the Absolute Divines and without his full range of abilities, he didn’t stand much of a chance of keeping her at bay. If he were able to access Mythal’s body and take it over, his powers would probably return at a quicker rate but… he unfortunately couldn’t force a takeover like Victoria had. The God Slayer had literally too much darkness for Lux to push through to even begin laying foundations. Over time, he would certainly be able to overwhelm it but that was what he was missing – time. Faera would make her move before then, he felt it in his nonexistent bones.

He had been staring at the gate, drifting off into his own thoughts. He’d noticed a child had approached the guards and then left shortly after, clearly turned away because of his age. That was a bit of a surprise, considering there were other members of the Rune Knights that were seemingly young as well. His thoughts shifted to the ever annoying Wren, who had put herself right in Lux’s metaphorical target when he eventually had a corporeal form. He chuckled a little to himself as he imagined how she would look in a brilliant shade of blue as he choked the life out of her. It was then that he noticed another guard returning from his recent patrol, allowed back into the headquarters by the two posted sentries. But as Lux looked at him, he noticed that this guard… was in fact the small child that had come and been sent packing before.

Why had they let him in? It only took the Lightbringer a second to realize it was an illusion spell – his expertise in bending light made him keen on noticing and seeing through such things. This child had the magic touch and was using it to get inside the compound! “That sneaky little pipsqueak,” Lux said, amused at the sight. But what could he do?

Well have his own fun, of course! He jumped to his feet and instantly vanished in a dazzling shower of light that quickly faded. He reappeared within the headquarters of the Rune Knights, materializing before Victoria, who had gone her own way during the meeting. “Vicki, how would you like to raise a little hell with a little kid? Never mind, rhetorical question, you’re doing it. Follow me!” He beckoned her, waving at her as he phased through the closest wall. Knowing that her curiosity would get the better of her, he led her right to the courtyard, his glowing head peeking through the wall as he quickly figured out where the intruder had gotten to. He’d just set himself up in the shadows and was removing his illusion.

Once Victoria arrived, he pointed the kid out. “Got ourselves a little trickster. Changed his face so he could get inside. One can only wonder what kind of mischief he could get up to.” Given the bright grin on the Lightbringer’s face, it wouldn’t take the other Seal long to figure out what he was thinking.

By the time Albafica had decided to move further into the compound, he would find himself without many guards patrolling his area. But at the first major corner he would turn, he would find no one there upon first glance and then immediately the space would be filled by the Lightbringer and, assumingly, his spouse. “Hey there champ,” Lux greeted the intruder with a friendly smile and a wave. “Look at you, sneakin’ into the camp all secret-like. Ten points for the spell by the way – though I personally would have kept it on until I actually got to where I was going.”

Conviction never shames nor condemns us.
It calls us back to who we truly are.
Though Victoria had quite the rough start to her current life with Serilda, she had adjusted to it fairly well. Serilda’s lifestyle as a noble and a military figurehead were roles that Victoria was more than used to, and frankly were things she could respect about the mortal she shared a soul with. Though they different vastly in certain areas of morality, the seal had to admit that Serilda ran a tight ship. Even when things were bad, the Voidwalker carried herself with dignity, clarity, and an evenness that could make even the most stoic of military leader balk in uncertainty.

If only the woman weren’t so frustratingly uptight about mercy and the preservation of mortal life. Serilda had a great deal of enemies, and Victoria couldn’t figure out for the life of her why she hadn’t just marched on them and brought them to heel. Politics were something that the seal of victory had little to no stomach for, preferring to exercise her authority with an iron fist. But Serilda insisted on playing by the rules of this country’s political nonsense. It made no sense to Victoria. In a couple hundred years, it was highly unlikely that any of today’s countries would exist, and if they did their laws and culture would be completely different anyway. All of it was meaningless, but Serilda refused to sway toward Victoria’s opinion on the matter.

Regardless, the nephilim did at least have a bit more interest toward a fair number of Serilda’s affairs, often sitting in on the meetings that drove Lux crazy. Most of them, at least. Ones that pertained more directly to military matters were of great interest to her, especially as she was keen to know more about the neighboring countries and Fiore’s relationships with them. The meetings that focused more on the magic council throwing their weight around, however, were of little concern to her.

She’d stuck around for a bit with the current meeting. Unlike Lux, Victoria was quite certain that the conferences weren’t just excuses to get rid of the seals so the two of them could go bang one another senseless. If anything, Victoria wished that were the case. Maybe then Serilda would stop being so insufferably uptight about her ethics. Eventually, however, the talks turned toward things that she held little to no interest in, so the seal had quietly seen herself out to occupy her time with other activities.

Lux would find her tucked away in Serilda’s office on the couch where they’d been brought back to the first day that the two seals had revealed themselves to the pair of god slayers. She was reading one of the many historical books of wars that were found in the Voidwalker’s bookshelf, as she was interested in catching herself up on the recent history of the nations in this era. Her brother’s appearance was a mild annoyance at best, if only because Lux’s version of getting attention was to throw himself into a room and demand that everyone immediately drop everything they were doing to focus on him.

She didn’t even look up at him when he informed her that she was going to go with him to pick on some child. “Call me Vicki one more time, brother, and you’ll need more than an incorporeal body to stop me from hurting you.” Victoria absolutely hated that nickname, and unfortunately both Lux and Serilda were prone to using it when they wanted to get under her skin. At first it seemed like she wasn’t going to bother following him. After all, what did she care about harassing some mortal kid? That was hardly her idea of entertainment. But the truth was that she knew Lux was likely to get into trouble, and at the very least she wanted to be there to witness what actually happened so that inevitably, when Lux tried to lie about it later, she could inform Mythal and Serilda of the truth.

With a sigh, she closed the book and set it on the coffee table, standing to her feet to follow her brother. She couldn’t move through walls like Lux could, at least not without active access to Serilda’s other magics, but he was at least picking a route that she could follow with relative ease. Lux brought them to the courtyard where he pointed out a young boy that was hiding and removing an illusion from himself. She couldn’t quite see through such magics like Lux could, but she could sense the power in them, at least. Her brother informed her that the kid had donned the facade so he could sneak into the military compound, which certainly did pique Victoria’s interest.

They watched as the boy continued to move, taking routes that specifically kept him out of immediate view of the other Knights as they went about their day. The two seals moved in tandem with one another to intercept the lad when he rounded a corner. Where Lux greeted him with a grin and a friendly disposition, Victoria stood firm with an air of supremacy about her as she narrowed steely, golden eyes on the kid.

“You have made a grave error in sneaking into this place, where you don’t belong. State your identity and your purpose. And I do not recommend lying to us. It will not go over well.”

    Serilda Sinclair

Swallowing One's Pride [Private] Empty Re: Swallowing One's Pride [Private]

Post by Albafica Temero 25th March 2020, 8:41 pm

In the beginning, there was nothing. And then, there was light. Quite literally right in his face, as Albafica stopped right in his tracks to stagger back, having missed running into Lux by a mere inch. There was a cheer sense of panic that took hold of him for a moment, but he tried to repress it enough so that it wouldn't show on his face. The boy could've sworn there was no-one within range, he hadn't seen nor sensed any of them. So why were they here? This man, and the woman beside him. His first focus had fallen on the man he'd nearly ran into, who's magical signature was completely void; void as in Albafica being unable to sense it in any way. It could be there, or it couldn't, but it was at a level that made it unable for his current prowess to sense. To him it was a sign of warning. What got him even more on guard was the friendliness with which he was addressed with.

"Actually…," he paused briefly, looking at both."That guy could get back anytime now, so having a doppelganger walking around would certainly alert the other guards. Whereas my size and appearance could've played in my favor… until now." he admitted. Perhaps not his smartest move in the eyes of some, but at least he was honest about his intentions. He didn't mean them any harm, otherwise he wouldn't have been trying so hard to stay away from people even when he was infiltrating. Which brought up a different thought; why weren't either of them being affected by his poison? Were they powerful enough to overcome his blood's cursed proportions by cheer magical prowess alone?

When Victoria spoke in her air of supremacy he felt his defiant nature rear within him. The boy didn't like for someone he did not know to look down on him, let alone speak in such tone. "I don't belong here, true, but then again I also don't belong anywhere else either. I don't need you to remind me of that." Albafica replied sharply, his eyes locked on the white-haired woman. Being reminded of it would've made him sulk, but right now his pride denied him that right. Even though the remark still stung. This woman. He couldn't sense anything from her either, which made him just as wary of her as it did the man beside her. Both far outdid him in terms of power, that much he garnered from the lack of things he could sense from them.

If Lux cared about Victoria’s threats, he certainly didn’t show it. His Seal-sister was less than pleased over the prospect of following him, choosing instead to remain in her place and stand irritably against his demands. But her better nature won out -- that nature, of course, being that she was sure that Lux would cause some kind of mischief on his own and then attempt to fib about it. Granted, that wasn’t always true but the Lightbringer certainly wasn’t planning on playing nice with the little infiltrator either. So soon enough Victoria was following after him, stopping to stare at the boy that Lux pointed out and described in great detail. After the Seal of Light explained exactly what Alba had done, that certainly caught his sibling’s attention. Now he had her hooked on a cause she could get behind.

And the little bugger was good too; he took careful steps to adjust his path, keeping himself from being spotted by the patrolling guards. Minus ten points to Rune Knights on their observation skills but then again, the kid was young and agile so it was an understandable error. But that didn’t keep him from practically walking right into Lux and Victoria, waiting for him around one of the bends. Each of them had their own look; the Lightbringer was heavily amused and Victoria was her usual sour-puss self. While Lux tried to tease the kid, the Seal of Conquest just insisted upon details about the boy’s person and place.

“Ugh, Vicki, why do you have to be such a hardass? The plan was to toy with him and here you are going all by the book,” Lux groaned, rolling his eyes. “Sorry for my stick in the mud partner over here, she has no sense of comedic timing. Anyways, you were saying something about the guy you were disguised as coming back and you being found out and… I’ll be honest, I was barely listening,” the Lightbringer said, shrugging. He was so often caught up in his own world, with his being the center of it, that he forgot to listen to other people’s remarks. Even Victoria’s threats from earlier seemed completely missed.

But he did catch as Alba puffed out his chest and stood up for himself to Victoria, seemingly refusing to give her an inch. “Oh ho ho!” Lux said, sliding from Victoria’s side to Alba’s, looking as giddy as a school child. “This kid’s got balls on him. Or girl balls -- I’ll be honest, I have no idea if you’re male or female. Humans are all kind of disgusting, asexual blobs to me most of the time. Insects worth stepping on, you know how it is,” he said, seeming to try and nudge Alba but his body simply phasing through the boy. “So, Mr. I-Don’t-Belong-Anywhere, if you’re in such a place of nonexistence, why did you decide to bring your emo, down-the-street-cutting butt to the headquarters of the Rune Knights?” the Lightbringer wondered, tapping his chin as he walked around Alba in thought. “Oh! Is this one of those suicide by cop things? Because I’m sure Mythal and Serilda will probably have something against that. They’ll probably try and save you, despite all you causing a ruckus and blah blah blah. Though I dunno, I’ve seen Mythal lay in some pretty heavy punches. And Serilda could give ice the chills with some of her stares.”

Lux paused, having gotten lost in thought. “The hell was I talking about again? Oh right!” He turned to face Alba once more. “So what’s the deal, kid? You here for a real reason or-- what the hell is that stench?” Lux made a face, contorting in disgust. The boy’s poison air had finally hit the Seal’s nose and, rather than causing him agony, had seemingly just grossed him out. “Is that you? Did you roll in a pile of shit or something?”

Conviction never shames nor condemns us.
It calls us back to who we truly are.
Well, he was certainly quick to react to his surroundings. She could sense a demeanor about him that spoke to one used to having to fend for survival. It was in the way he managed to stop himself before running into Lux, despite not being able to sense either of them. The way the young boy didn’t hesitate to confirm the truth about his actions but also why he had moved the way he had, the thought he had put into trying to sneak about the military grounds. It wasn’t necessarily impressive to the Nephilim, as even mortals with keen senses and reflexes were a dime a dozen, but it was still worth noting.

There was something else drawing her interest, however. Something far more peculiar about the young boy. He glared up at her and prattled off something about not belonging anywhere and her not needing to remind him of it. “Yes, I’m sure it’s quite the sob story,” she said, not really caring or even fully paying attention. Instead, while Lux was busy getting his kicks over the child’s apparent spunk, Victoria was turning her senses toward inside the kid. There was a strong reek of poison about him, one that brushed against the senses of her blood magic. She studied him in stern silence while Lux did his usual thing and ran his mouth talking about nothing at all, until finally the Lightbringer noticed the phenomenon as well and commented on it aloud.

“It’s poison,” she told her brother simply, her gaze still fixed on the young man though now more curious than judgemental. “But it’s more than that. Your blood has been infected, has it not? Cursed with an affliction that is deadly to mortals within proximity to you. You play a dangerous game sneaking into this place where you might immediately be taken for an attacker, and so soon after this place was very nearly brought to ruin. I trust I do not need to explain the consequences that await you if the Knights are not satisfied with your explanations.”

The way she spoke, it was apparent that she and her brother were not actually members of the Rune Knights themselves.
