Post by Akeya 17th January 2019, 1:30 pm

    Job Details:

The draconic figure was high up in the air, watching the sun slowly make its way to the horizon where it would sink away while darkness covered the land. Twilight was beginning to set in. For Akeya this was a good time, as she could feel both dark and light strongly during this period of time. However this time around it also meant that it wouldn't be much longer before her job would begin. She hoped that her companion would be here before then, as she wanted to establish lines of cooperation before chaos broke loose.

The dragoness was on a job which was only available once every fifty years. Every fifty years an unusually brilliant moon, nicknamed the Perfect Moon, would dominate the night sky. And there happened to be a bunch of werewolves living in the Haunted Village that wouldn't be able to resist their bloodlust during this night. Since the villagers themselves were so unreasonable as to refuse to take measures against this the Magic Council had to hire mages every fifty years to suppress the werewolves for as long as needed. Akeya was pretty sure that if it wasn't for the fact that it was only once every fifty years the Magic Council wouldn't have given the villagers a choice in the matter of taking precautions.

Regardless, that was why Akeya was here, flying above the beach of a place most ominously called the Graveyard Sea. She'd be teaming up with someone outside of the alliance Onyx Moon was part of, which was why she could use her true self and pretend to be guildless without issue. She didn't have much information about who she would be partnered with to help keep the werewolves from killing anyone, other than that they were from Sabertooth. She didn't have much personal experience with the guild, since in the past they'd toted themselves as paragons of virtue and justice which didn't mix well with Akeya's pragmatic and apathetic nature.

From here she could see the village a couple of miles away, the people holding a festival just like many other settlements would be doing all around the country. Their refusal to accept that there was any danger meant that they were planning to stay up for most of the night, so everyone would be nicely gathered in the open when the werewolves began to freak out and attack everything in sight. The dark-scaled assassin sighed in mild annoyance while resting her fingertips against her forehead. It was amazing how good people were at making things worse for themselves. It was almost like the fact that this already made things worse for everyone around them was just a side effect in the grand quest to die in the most stupid and wasteful manner possible.

Ever since she'd received her light half she'd noticed that she cared more than she liked. When she was pure darkness she'd been almost completely apathetic, which she thought was more effective and more logical. These days while she still couldn't be called a loving and caring person at the very least she found herself desiring a better outcome. Before the closest she came to that was a desire to complete the mission perfectly, for which the well-being of others was nothing more than a requirement to be met. As time passed she'd become better at dealing with this newfound ability to see others as more than just variables, but she still didn't care for the idea that it could interfere with her ability to be unbiased and rational. Too many people thought they were rational when their personal desires and opinions pulled them in completely irrational directions.

Her sharp gaze turned away from the village with the many lights and swept across the landscape, searching for signs of another mage approaching. As the dragon of light and dark her eyesight was extraordinary, so as long as she paid attention she should be able to see this Serilda person coming. Especially if she also kept herself sharp for any signs of magic in the area. Her wings shimmered between dark and light as they kept her aloft, after several seconds fading into the twilight background together with the rest of her body so she was almost invisible. With a frown she forced her body back into visibility, absorbing the rays of sunlight that still escaped from the edge of the sky to make her entire body glow instead. Under normal circumstances she'd be fine with turning invisible, but she'd have an easier time meeting up with the other mage if she could be spotted up in the sky and it wasn't like there were any threats around. The werewolves weren't going to be a danger until night had fallen. Until then they were just normal villagers who weren't aware that they were going to be spending a night as mindless bloodthirsty monsters.

The fact that those monsters tended to have quite the strapping figure was one of the few things Akeya approved of in this situation. She had encountered werewolves before, and while she didn't care for the drooling and barking for some reason the hybrid creatures always looked ripped. It made the dragoness wonder just how the curse came into being to begin with.

...She didn't usually put much concern into the attractiveness of the creatures she was eliminating or incapacitating. Was this the effect of the light mingling with the dark again? Why was the dark coldly logical and the light warmly emotional anyway? No wonder creatures of the light tended to discriminate without rhyme or reason. That and the huge stick up their ass.

Shaking her head she put some more effort into emanating sufficient light, from the distance the sounds of the festival mixing with the atmospheric sound of the sea. Once she sensed or spotted Serilda she'd first release a flare of light to make sure that the other mage noticed her flying in the skies, then move down towards the ground so they could meet up and discuss their battle plan.

Post by Serilda Sinclair 18th January 2019, 12:25 am

"Character counts most when duty calls."

Serilda certainly had her apprehensions about taking a job at a place affectionately known as the “Haunted Village”. The Voidwalker wasn’t exactly a fan of haunted places, particularly after the last job she’d been on with Mythal. Unfortunately, she seemed to be one of the first ones called on these days whenever Sabertooth received a job posting for anything regarding the supernatural. Luckily, this job seemed to be less about ghosts and more about werewolves. Those certainly sounded terrifying to deal with, but she’d take a target with a solid body any day over an ethereal one with no physical form. At least she’d be able to sense the location of a werewolf.

She had gotten to the location somewhat early, wanting to wander the place for a bit and get a feel for its landscape and structure. Serilda was supposed to be meeting another wizard here, though she new little about her aside from her name: Akeya. She didn’t even know what guild the other mage was from, or if she even was with one. The Council utilized free agent wizards as much as legal ones, so it was entirely possible her assigned partner wasn’t affiliated with any particular groups. Either way, the Voidwalker could only hope she was able to find this other wizard before night sank in.

For the most part, she ignored the start of the festivities around her, only looking to take note of the area and the people. Beside her, the wolf Xiuhcoatl walked at her heels. Serilda had wondered briefly at the wisdom in bringing her companion on this particular job, but ultimately had pushed such doubtful thoughts aside. The wolf was fully trained, now, hardened for any battle and completed in her bonding process with Serilda. For better or worse, the two of them were partners. She hadn’t trained the animal to live a life of safety, and if she went on a dangerous mission without her the wolf would be both insulted and hurt. Serilda didn’t have the heart to do that.

As they moved around, many people greeted her cheerfully or wondered over the wolf’s stunning coat. Serilda would smile or nod in polite acknowledgement, but never stopped to speak with anyone in length. She had a job to do and was not one easily distracted from her duties. Thankfully, most people could tell that she wasn’t exactly there as a tourist, as she walked upright with her hands behind her back like she was a soldier on patrol. Granted, that was how she always walked, whether on a job or no, but they didn’t know that.

She wasn’t feeling too out of sorts for this job, at least. Mythal had a brush in with werewolves himself recently, and she’d taken it upon herself to get some tips from him about fighting them. Plus she still wielded Moonlight: the ordained holy sword crafted from the teeth and bones of werewolves that Mythal himself had killed. The glowing weapon was currently tucked away in the worn looking sheath at her hip, its aura hidden away… for now. It would be of great help in the fight to come, to be certain.

As the light in the sky began to wane and she made her way closer to the edge of the village, a flare of light caught her attention out in the distance. In the sky floated a figure that seemed to be purposefully drawing attention to itself. The other mage, perhaps? That seemed the most likely. Finding one another in a crowded village would certainly be more tedious, but there was only one way to know for sure. Stepping out of the confines of the village, Serilda started making her way toward the figure -- who would probably see a lone woman and her wolf heading directly toward her. Though the Voidwalker could easily fly up to meet the other person in the sky, Xiuhcoatl had no such abilities so the noblewoman chose to stay on the ground.

As she got closer, the other woman drifted down to close the distance. It confirmed Serilda’s suspicions that this likely was the other mage she had been sent to work with. They got closer to one another until she was able to start making out more distinctive details. Large reptilian wings spanned from her back and gold tinged scales covered clawed limbs. A tail rested behind her, and upon her crown were a set of dragon like horns. Either this was part of her magic, or she was not human. At least, not fully. There was a time not so long ago where that might have put Serilda on edge, but her time with Sabertooth had done much to soothe her worries about a lot of other humanoid creatures that she knew little of, or even only knew by stereotypes. Instead, she only observed the woman coolly as they approached one another, taking enough stock of Akeya’s appearance only to fix her face and distinctive features in her memory.

“Akeya?” she asked, her tone even but not unkind. Upon confirmation of the other woman’s identity, Serilda would offer a firm hand for her to shake. “I am Serilda Sinclair, with Sabertooth. This is my hound, Xiuhcoatl.” she gestured to the wolf, who sat obediently at her heels but looked up at the strange woman with dark, curious eyes. Her fluffy tail twitched from the hint of a wag, and through their empathic bond Serilda could sense that Xiuh was very interested in greeting this strange woman that smelled nothing like anything she’d ever come across before. The wolf stayed where she sat, exercising an impressive amount of discipline, but her personality was impossible to hide from her eyes. One could easily tell just by looking at her that she wanted nothing more than to wander over to the dragoness and better make her acquaintance.

“Did you get a chance to look around the village yet, at all?” she asked.

[Job] Moondragon and Voidwalker {Akeya/Serilda] Empty Re: [Job] Moondragon and Voidwalker {Akeya/Serilda]

Post by Akeya 20th January 2019, 1:22 pm

Sensing the magic and spotting the visuals of what was most likely her companion Akeya descended to the earth, in the process noting that her ally for this mission had a pet with her. A wolf with the most peculiar coat. Akeya had never been one for pets, so she had little knowledge in the way of animals unless they served a purpose aside from company. Her shadow fox Korikami was almost always hidden in her shadow, and even when he did show himself he was usually completely independent unless his master had a job for him.

Well, the coat of your pet had little to do with your competence as a mage unless that coat came with some magical abilities. Landing on the ground Akeya walked forward to meet the other mage, quickly taking in her features and those of her animal companion. It looked like she was dealing with a serious type here, which the dragoness didn't mind as she nodded in response to Serilda's inquiry. "Correct." Taking the offered hand she returned the firm shake, softly shining scales pressing against Serilda's soft skin before the dragon pulled her hand back. "It is good that you've arrived early. We still have some time before the trouble starts." She gave Xiuhcoatl another glance. "An interesting companion you have. Are you certain she won't get confused by the werewolves though? The intelligent type can force other canines into obedience through displays of dominance." While she'd only encountered werewolves once before she'd done a lot of research on them to ensure that if she encountered them once again she'd be able to handle them.

She could easily tell that despite staying still this Xiuhcoatl was the enthusiastic type, but Akeya didn't have much motivation to indulge the wolf as instead she kept her focus on her fellow mage. "I've looked at it from above and I've visited in the past. I would have prepared more but the Magic Council has made it clear that we are not allowed to interfere with the villagers' activities beyond keeping them safe." She narrowed her eyes and let out a soft hiss in annoyance before closing said eyes to dismiss the emotion. "This would have been easier if we were allowed to find and imprison those with the wolf blood beforehand. Instead we'll most likely be forced to patrol the village and wait for the first person to begin transforming. With some luck even the most stubborn of the ones claiming that nothing is going to happen will seek cover after that, so as long as we keep the werewolves busy at first we'll have the streets to ourselves afterwards."

Looking up the twilight mage inspected the sky, gauging how much time they had left before the moon would show itself. The sun was by now hidden behind the horizon, but the rays of light were still painting the sky blue. Akeya's scales seemed to mimic the state of the sky, going from their golden tint to a clear blue which faded to a darker blue near the extremities."I suggest we return to the village while we discuss the situation further. The moon will be rising from that direction," She explained as she indicated with one clawed hand. "So that's where the first transformation will occur. I don't know whether the Perfect Moon has special rules in that regard, but werewolves who've learned to control their beast side need to be exposed to the light of the full moon before it forces a transformation." Of course with the Perfect Moon all bets were off, but Akeya still thought it best to at least go by the normal rules since they had nothing better to go by unless Serilda had some information on the subject.

Assuming that Serilda didn't have any objections Akeya would begin to walk towards the village, the talons on her feet leaving marks in the sands of the beach despite the fact that she moved with little to no sound. Looking at her companion from the corner of her she studied both woman and wolf once more with an emerald reptilian gaze. "What are your abilities and strong points? I assume you're good at subjugation given that we're not allowed to harm the transformed villagers, but coordination will be key here. I don't know if you've fought werewolves before, but even with their lack of magic the strong ones tend to have enough speed and raw force that if you're reckless they'll catch you in the middle of casting a spell." She pointed at herself with her tail."As you've most likely guessed by now I use light and dark magic. I specialize in stealth and close combat so unless you've got a better method I'll be incapacitating them when they're vulnerable. It would help if you had a way of drawing their attention so I have an easier time hitting their blind spot."

Post by Serilda Sinclair 21st January 2019, 9:22 pm

"Character counts most when duty calls."

The two women shook hands respectfully with one another, both appearing to be professional and disciplined individuals. Akeya inquired about the wolf in relation to the job at hand. It was a fair question, and one that did not offend Serilda by any means. “I am not worried. Her breed is one that also possesses high intelligence, and she shares an empathic bond with me that can only be broken through one of our deaths. She will not be confused by them. Plus, I think a third pair of eyes to keep watch on the civilians will be beneficial to us.”

Akeya explained that she’d been monitoring the village from above similarly to how Serilda herself had been doing on the ground. When the dragoness expressed her frustrations about not being allowed to better prepare for the night, the Voidwalker did nod in agreement with the thoughts. “I can understand where they are coming from in not wanting to apprehend those in question before they’d done anything to merit it… but I do agree that this task would be much simpler if we had been allowed the chance to segregate them, somehow. Unfortunately, most politicians dislike extreme measure of prevention before being pushed into them by extreme and immediate need.”

It was an unfortunate truth that most government types did not like to upset their people by taking precautions that might be necessary, however offensive, before the problems arised. They almost always waited until after the issues had already come to a head and forced their hands, and often by then many lives had already been lost. It was a sad truth that Serilda had been exposed to a number of times as a noble, but unfortunately she had little control or sway with the Magic Council. Their instructions on how to handle this had been given, and that was that. All they could do was hope they acted quickly enough to keep anyone from being too badly injured, or killed.

The other woman suggested they head back into the village while they discussed their plan, and Serilda followed suit, listening to the woman as they walked. Starting to the side where the moonlight would first touched seemed wise, so off they went. Akeya relayed a bit of her knowledge regarding werewolves, though she also confessed that she didn’t know if there would be any differences between normal transformations and those that took place during the perfect moon. Serilda hummed in thought. “I know it would likely ruin the festival, but it’s a shame we can’t just find a way to obscure the moon entirely for the duration of the event. The patrons would be sore, but I could live with that -- particularly if it meant preventing the transformations entirely.”

Unfortunately none of her magic would let her accomplish such a feat, and given that the entire festival revolved around the moon she wasn’t sure if that would qualify under what the Council would consider “interfering” with the event.

On the plus side, the more Akeya spoke her mind the more hope Serilda had for the task at hand. She could already tell that the dragoness was of similar mind to her, at least in the sense of being in full communication with one’s partner and approaching the situation from a practical standpoint. Serilda appreciated working with someone that was forward and to the point. Akeya explained her own abilities, stating that she was best suited for close combat and sneaking up on enemies that were distracted or preoccupied.

Serilda nodded approvingly. “I think our magics will work well together, then,” she informed the other woman. “My magic is a bit tedious to explain, so to save time I’ll simply say that I’m capable of manipulating the molecules of space in the physical world. Most of my spells are centered around crowd control. I should be able to keep numerous werewolves at a disadvantage for you to capitalize on with your own abilities. As far as my actual fighting, I tend to mix my spell casting alongside fighting with my sword.”

She gently patted the scabbard at her hip that sheathed the scimitar within. “It’s a holy weapon that was actually crafted from the teeth and bones of werewolves. Every strike they receive from this sword will drain their power and energy until they haven’t the strength to fight anymore.” Serilda could use the effects of her sword to incapacitate the turned villagers without killing them. They’d be hurt, of course, but they would live and recover.

“As long as we don’t stray too far from one another I should be able to find you if we get separated, but just in case we should establish a spot to meet should anything go wrong. We should also try to ascertain what direction we think is best to start funneling people toward once the chaos starts, so they aren’t all just scattering beyond our ability to protect them. I haven’t gotten the chance to get an aerial view as you have, yet, so your judgement on that might be more informed than mine.”

[Job] Moondragon and Voidwalker {Akeya/Serilda] Empty Re: [Job] Moondragon and Voidwalker {Akeya/Serilda]

Post by Akeya 22nd January 2019, 12:29 pm

Akeya didn't comment any further on the topic of Xiuhcoatl's presence once Serilda explained that she had full confidence in the wolf's ability to resist the influence of the werewolves and remain useful on the job. While it would be a stretch to say she trusted the other woman's claim blindly she did think that such a straightforward woman wouldn't say such a thing unless she was either completely serious or blatantly lying. And she didn't think Serilda was lying. Whether Xiuhcoatl would actually live up to the expectations or not was something the dragoness would see with her own eyes, but she wasn't going to insist that the wolf be kept out of the village unless it became a certainty that things would go wrong.

"I know their line of reasoning, but it still sounds like their actions are dictated by their desire to not lose support from the public. I've encountered werewolves before and have sharp senses, so if they had allowed it we could have peacefully gathered the lycanthropes." She didn't show any annoyance this time, but inside her head she still held a small measure of displeasure that her job was made more difficult because the higher ups prioritized their popularity over both efficiency and the lives of the citizens. Not that Akeya really cared about the latter, but if anyone died this night she'd explain without hesitation that the fault lay with those who had refused to take real measures before it was too late.

She'd be outright defying their opinion if it wasn't for the fact that she didn't have the leeway to oppose the Magic Council directly.

Serilda's suggestion of covering the moon had her glance towards where she suspected the celestial body would soon be visible. In the meantime they'd already come close enough to the village that they could clearly hear the laughter and voices of the people celebrating without any awareness of the danger that lurked almost literally over the horizon. "Not the worst idea. I don't have the ability to darken the moon itself but I could ward off the moonlight with a dome of darkness." She fell silent for several seconds, her brow furrowed, before she shook her head. "But it would be too straining, especially given that there's no guarantee of it working. Over at Crescent Island they have a method for turning concentrated moonlight into an elixir capable of dispelling nearly any enchantment. The Perfect Moon's light might burn its way through any magical barrier anyone might throw up to shield themselves from it." If she was disappointed she didn't allow herself to show it, instead studying the village ahead as there were some villagers walking about. Seeing that they were heading towards where the moon would rise had the dragoness's face growing longer. Of course they would go straight towards the most dangerous location. It would be a fantastic show to watch the Perfect Moon appear.

And they'd get the free experience of being gnawed on by werewolves as well.

While there were some villagers who loitered and watched the mages they didn't approach. This was partially because Akeya was radiating an aura of not being in the mood for casual talk. She wasn't going to get all huffy and upset with these people who were risking their own annihiliation because of disbelief, but at the same time she didn't feel much of an urge to get close to them. She'd take down the werewolves when they transformed, ensure that as few people died as possible, and go home having done what she was supposed to do. The villagers could survive without pleasantries, as long as they actually survived the night.

Thus they made progress without any interruptions. Akeya kept a wary eye out even though the moon had yet to appear, listening to their surroundings with one ear while keeping track of what her companion was saying with the other. "Excellent. Most mages I've come across prefer to launch a full assault, but given that we're dealing with targets we're not allowed to harm it's good that we can divide the roles of suppression and takedown." Most mages, Akeya was pretty sure, would have chosen for trying to deal with as many werewolves as possible on their own. While not impossible it was too much of a risk to take when you had so many handicapes to deal with. The only ones who could pull off such a stunt with zero casualties were the real powerhouses.

She gave the sword a glance once she was told that it was a holy sword. Her eye narrowed before she looked ahead again. "I'm guessing that sword played a part in you taking this job then." The mage from Onyx Moon hadn't thought of keeping a souvenir from her own encounter with werewolves, but then again she'd be rather busy with her own objectives. She wasn't one to rely much on spectacular weapons anyway, especially of the holy type. "That said I do hope you're not a faithful yourself. While I'm not unholy by nature I've found that me and the gods rarely get along. They don't like dragons very much." She couldn't really hide the fact that she was a dragon at this point.

Her response to Serilda's suggestion of a place to meet up if they got separated was to point towards the marketsquare. It wasn't on their path since they were heading for the edge of the village, but in traditional settlement layout there were plenty of streets leading directly towards the centre so it was easy to find. "I'd say that is a good place. We'll have plenty of space to fight any werewolves that approach as well. As for where to guide the non-lycanthropes... It might be best to get them inside the buildings as quickly as possible. When a werewolf is turned feral by the moonlight it affects their intelligence, so as long as the villagers can keep quiet indoors we should be able to keep the attention of the transformed on ourselves. Additionally they're natural chasers and hunters so encouraging the villagers to keep running away would just paint them as targets. Predators have a strong instinct for chasing prey that runs."

"Character counts most when duty calls."

For a moment there was a brief glimmer of hope that they could prevent the transformations entirely as Akeya made mention that she had a spell for darkness that could potentially block out the moonlight. However, upon giving it further consideration the dragoness shook her head and said it probably wouldn’t do anything. Moonlight tended to have magical properties even on a normal moon; a perfect moon was sure to bring down any such spell she might set up. So much for that.

As they moved through the village, no one approached them -- though they did get several glances, being a rather odd trio. Serilda didn’t really seem to notice that Akeya was giving off any sort of antisocial vibes, as she interpreted as just being much like herself: focused on the task at hand, with no time for dallying. Her partner seemed as pleased as Serilda was that their magic and fighting styles would likely complement one another in this upcoming fight. She also had a few comments regarding Serilda’s weapon.

“Yes, that was one of the reasons,” the noblewoman confirmed with a slight nod regarding her sword’s material makeup. “But no, I’m not exactly what one would call religious. This sword was a gift from my best friend. He had it crafted especially for me because, as he likes to put it, I’m not exactly a fan of ‘things that go bump in the night’.” Serilda smirked a little wryly over the wording, able to admit one of her own fears rather than hide it. “I believe in gods, but my desire is that they stay far away from me and mine.”

This was especially so now that she was so close with Mythal, who was being actively hunted by a fallen goddess. Serilda knew one day that her own path was most likely going to cross with the god’s, though she sincerely hoped it wouldn’t. Faera had no idea where Mythal was, and both he and Serilda were looking to keep it that way -- though that was difficult, given that her friend had made a bit of a name for himself in the wizarding world. The tone of her final statement about wanting gods to leave her alone held just enough weight to them that Akeya could likely assume that Serilda had an experience at some point that had turned her away from being fans of gods, even more so than most other fantastical types of beings.

The confirmation that Akeya was a dragon was something that Serilda didn’t miss, either. It did make her a bit more nervous, but that was easier to handle given that the woman didn’t really look like how Serilda expected a dragon would. Clearly she had dragon features, and perhaps she could take on the full body of a more traditional looking dragon, but she was still more on the humanoid side for now -- which helped. Plus, Serilda was rarely one to be controlled by her fears. Her partner so far had been nothing but civil, friendly, and honest with her so far -- all things that Serilda judged much more highly and favorably than her own base ignorances.

Akeya pointed out a good central location to meet up should they get separated and need to find one another again, as well as suggested that the best place to encourage people to hide would be in buildings rather than to just make a break for it, least they do little but draw the werewolves’ attentions and tease their predatory instincts. She nodded. “Very well, that’s what we’ll endeavor to do. At least we can be thankful that there are buildings around here they can hide in, rather than just tents.”

Gods, wouldn’t that be a nightmare.

Time passed, and soon the evening was culminating to the appropriate time. The perfect moon was high in the sky, just past the treeline until the fullness of its light washed over the festival. The air was filled with sounds of music, chatter, and general merriment from everyone celebrating until a single scream pierced the air. Not wasting any time, Serilda rushed toward the sound of the cry, where soon others were starting to follow suit. Even before she could see them, she could feel several bodies changing shape, twisting and writhing as their forms manipulated into beasts.

She drew Moonlight, the scimitar glowing lightly from its ordained tempering. “Move!” Serilda yelled, automatically shoving people out of her way and toward the nearest buildings. “If you value your lives, you will get inside and stay there! Stop staring and go!” She snatched one man roughly by his collar to get his attention, as he’d been transfixed watching the transformations around him. He blinked and, suddenly aware of himself, bolted toward the nearest building.

“Xiuhcoatl.” The wolf perked her ears toward her mistress, listening without taking her eyes off the werewolves appearing around them. “Vagt.” It was a general command, but one the animal would understand. She didn’t immediately start attacking any of her cursed, humanoid kin but she did start to keep an eye on the surroundings, and moving closer to some of the werewolves that were perhaps a bit too close to civilians and putting herself between the two groups.

There was no sense wasting any time waiting for the transformation to be completed. They knew why they were here, and those subject to the curse would already be showing signs. Reaching into her magic, she pinpointed several nearly transformed werewolves and expelled the air from their lungs, causing them to restrict without making room for more air. Those affected dropped to their knees and clutched at their throats, unable to breath. It wasn’t a spell that would hit all of their targets, but it would certainly put enough off their guard that Akeya would hopefully be able to dispatch them quickly so they could move on to those she hadn’t been able to reach yet.

“Go!” she yelled again at another group of civilians that were frozen in panic. She shoved them out of the way and blocked a strike with her sword from the werewolf that lunged at them. It howled as its fleshy arms cut themselves on her blade. “Stop standing around and get inside! The people fled, and for a moment the werewolf looked like it was going to follow but Serilda sliced at it with her sword to keep its attention.

Post by Akeya 26th January 2019, 8:53 pm

"Good to hear. I wouldn't want to deal with a religious nut trying to kill me in the middle of us defending this village." Now that Serilda had affirmed that she wasn't a religious person herself Akeya felt like she could use the less then flattering term without it getting in the way of their cooperation. At the mention of belief the dragoness snorted. "No reason to believe in them when it's fact that they exist. Although I agree that it's usually better if they stay out of the way. I have yet to hear of any god having any kind of influence which wasn't either very minor or very troublesome in the long run. I suspect it's because of infighting." She wasn't going to openly mention that so far as she was concerned gods were targets to aim for: if she could become strong enough that she could hunt gods she would have reached an acceptable level of strength.

Given that it matched her own idea on the gods Akeya didn't feel the need to inquire about why Serilda held that opinion. The most likely answer was that she, just like the dragon, had either personally or from afar observed that whenever the gods got involved things tended to get frustrating and complicated. There were very few circumstances were divine intervention was usually a good thing, and even if it was that was usually because it was someone else channelling the power of a deity in a useful way rather than a deity's direct influence working out well.

And if she noticed any discomfort in Serilda, she declined to acknowledge it.

"Not to mention that werewolves are blindingly fast, so it would take them only a couple of seconds to catch up to a running human. Which is also something you should look out for when we're fighting them. The sooner they're disabled the less chance that one manages to exploit a moment of carelessness." She looked back up at the skies with a calculating gaze. As time progressed her scales became darker and darker to match the progression of the twilight, until eventually they were dark as night. Her form also became to shimmer, fading in and out of sight as she silently cracked her knuckles and prepared herself for the oncoming fight. She knew that she didn't need to remind Serilda to prepare herself: her companion this time around was one with enough alertness that the dragon didn't need to waste time worrying about her.

When the moonlight hit the festival Akeya ducked into the shadows, remaining hidden even as she followed the other mage towards where the first transformations were happening. She could feel how the magic from the moon was acting as a catalyst, forcefully pulling out the power that lay dormant in their blood to transform them from mostly harmless humans into some of the deadliest predators you could encounter in the material realm. Most of the stronger creatures might visit the material realm or be trapped there but originated from somewhere else. Werewolves though... natives, and dangerous ones.

She didn't bother to repeat Serilda's warnings. Having a second voice telling the villagers to get inside would just confuse them when they were already beginning to panic, especially since Akeya was for now not bothering to show herself. Her gaze was forward towards where the cursed ones were shifting. They were obviously in distress, groaning and gasping for air as they tried to control their transformation but failing. It must be a horrible sensation to feel your mind get clouded with bloodlust, to have your rationality be buried in the thickest fog as bestial and monstrous instincts took over. If Akeya was the type to easily sympathize she'd feel sorry for them. Truth was, she somewhat did, but she'd still knock them out as the job demanded of her. Trying to be gentle with them would just increase the odds of something going horribly wrong.

As the swordswoman prepared to unleash her magic Akeya tensed, then launched herself in a burst of darkness. In mid-air the dark suddenly turned into light, the dragoness's form going from midnight blue to moonlight silver. Shooting about as a bolt she barrelled into the legs of one werewolf to knock it over, then zigzagged across the area to do the same to the rest. With Serilda's magic incapacitating some of them the dragoness had enough time to follow up on the initial attack by hitting them in the neck with an axe hand. The hard scales helped make sure the force of the blow penetrated deeply, disrupting the nerves connecting the head to the body.

It didn't take very long before this small group of werewolves was disabled, the last one being the one Serilda was keeping busy. Reforming and spinning Akeya slammed her tail into the werewolf's head with enough force to lift it from the ground before it collapsed into a heap, after which she surveyed the area. "No civilians injured, werewolves knocked out. We'll have to use more permanent restraints than a blow to the neck though. I hit them hard but they'll recover a lot faster than it takes for the moon to disappear again." She looked around. Unfortunately while the festival came with a lot of decorations and stalls they didn't come with wires or ropes strong enough to easily restrain a werewolf. "Unless you've got some method for restraining them for the rest of the night we'll have to settle for breaking their limbs. They're durable enough that it shouldn't cripple them for life but bloodthirst or not an animal whose limbs are broken isn't going to waste time hunting. Best case they'll find themselves some corner to lick their wounds in."

Regardless of whether Serilda had a better method or if Akeya was spending the next couple of minutes carefully and cleanly breaking bones the dragoness would afterwards frown. "These weren't very strong, but it's not going to be the only group. According to the mission details the clan is divided into several families, so there's going to be more groups out there." As if to answer Akeya's words howling could be heard in the distance. Judging by the direction it was near the edge of the village, but they'd have to run to make it there before the werewolves inflicted fatal injuries. Akeya didn't waste any time, speeding away as a streak of moonlight towards the origin of the howling.

"Character counts most when duty calls."

Not that her mind was actively on such thoughts at the moment, but after all this was over Serilda would reflect on how refreshing it was to be working with another mage whose approach matched her own, and whose magic complimented hers. They were already working together like a well oiled machine, two down to business women with a job to do and no interest in wasting time about it. As soon as Serilda had pin pointed the first transformations and hindered them, Akeya sifted the light around herself and made quick work of the werewolves. One by one they were knocked down in a flash until each of them were unconscious.

As her partner verbalized, however, it was only a temporary solution. These creatures needed to be restrained or they might get back up while the moon was still out. Akeya suggested breaking a bone or two to keep them incapacitated and disinterested in fighting. “I can sink some into the ground, as well,” Serilda told her after a brief nod to convey that she didn’t particularly have any qualms about breaking their limbs, either. Those would heal. “They’ll be hard pressed to get out and do more fighting when they’re surrounded by solid rock from the shoulders down.”

As the dragoness set to breaking a few legs, Serilda used her magic to gently lower a few of the werewolves into the hard ground and solidify it around them until nothing but their heads were poking out. Just as they were wrapping up, Akeya was explaining that there would be more -- probably stronger ones -- when they heard howling in the distance. Both women set off as quickly as they could, keen to make it to the spot in question before anyone could be killed.

When they got there, the scene was already a bit hectic. The werewolves had already fully transformed and were attacking the villagers, who were screaming and running in a panic as they were wont to do. Serilda took only a fraction of a second to study the situation before narrowing down which spot was the most critical. So far no one seemed to be dead, but as they ran up Serilda saw a woman that was trying to run get knocked over by one of the beasts. “Angribe!” she shouted, pointing at the creature.

Xiuhcoatl shot across the way like a bullet from a gun, the Star Wolf easily bounding over the space in a couple quick steps. Her breed was known for their speed, and she had been holding back much of this time so far to keep pace with her human mistress. But with her instructions given, the wolf slammed her body against the werewolf’s before it could slash at its prey, knocking the larger creature to the side. Her powerful jaws locked onto the humanoid wolf’s arm and dragged it back, drawing its attention away from the woman.

“Inside!” Serilda commanded for what felt like the thousandth time already. Her tone was like iron and the woman obeyed immediately, scrambling to her feet and ducking into the nearest building.

The noblewoman poured her magic into the ground and shook the pockets of Void space within it. The ground reacted by shaking, the earthquake over taking the area and throwing just about anything with feet off balance. It was a calculated risk. Many of the villagers would have a hard time walking as easily, but they could afford that while the werewolves were more focused on the confusion of not being able to control their movements. And thankfully, the buildings on the island had been made to withstand harsh natural disasters like hurricanes, so they were not toppled by the spell.

While everyone was scrounging in confusion as to where this sudden earthquake had come from, Serilda capitalized on the moment by ensuring their targets were the ones most hindered. She tapped into the empty spaces of the air beneath several of the werewolves and spun the area violently, creating miniature cyclones beneath each one affected that threw them up into the air and away from the villagers.

By the time all that was done, she had already made it over to Xiuhcoatl, flanking the werewolf she was fighting. Serilda quickly unleashed a series of shallow slices into the rabid creature’s flesh, attacks meant to wound only enough to allow her sword its ability to siphon the victim’s energy away. Between the attack from Xiuh and the loss of energy from the ironically named scimitar Moonlight, the beast fell to its knees gasping. Serilda swiftly clubbed it over the head with the pommel of her weapon, knocking it out before turning to see if Akeya needed further help with the rest.

[Job] Moondragon and Voidwalker {Akeya/Serilda] Empty Re: [Job] Moondragon and Voidwalker {Akeya/Serilda]

Post by Akeya 30th January 2019, 12:27 pm

With Serilda voicing no opposition to the rather cold-hearted method of keeping the werewolves from wreaking further havoc the dragoness began her work. Given that she should minimize damage in the long run she kept her strikes to the limbs, targeting both arms and legs while carefully avoiding the extremities or the joints. Large bones which wouldn't be under stress during everyday movement would heal the best, especially if there was someone with healing magic in the village. Usually there was at least one priest or apothecary for that kind of thing. With her strength and trained control she could also ensure that every break was clean: swift and precise strikes prevented fragmentation and minimized misalignment. With how much skill Akeya had and with how careful she was being she was pretty sure that if someone were to study the bones afterwards they might end up wondering if they weren't split or cut instead.

"Burying them is also good, although they'll be at the mercy of the rest of the village until they can be dug out. Unless you're planning to stick around for long enough after the arrival of dawn to free them as well." No matter how powerful the Perfect Moon might be it couldn't possibly keep the werewolves stuck in a bestial rage after it has already disappeared below the horizon. If that was the case this entire situation wouldn't even have happened as the werewolves from fifty years ago would still be running wild.

Once that was done it was time to rescue whatever villagers were unlucky to be attacked by the second group of werewolves. Akeya was hoping that the werewolves would keep moving in groups: if they spread out and began attacking villagers throughout the settlement there was no way there wasn't going to be at least one person dead by the end of the night. Even if the two mages were fast they couldn't cover the entire village at the same time. Given that they were in a hurry Akeya didn't bother keeping pace with Serilda, instead shooting forward as she showed off the speed that was one of her main weapons. It helped that she could use the powers of light and dark to suffer less the restrictions of a biological form.

Upon arrival at the second outbreak Akeya didn't need much time to act. The werewolves were almost completely done transforming, and while they were still getting up to speed they were already lashing out at the villagers. To the credit of said villagers at least they were all running away instead of doing something really stupid like trying to convince the werewolves to return to normal. It might trigger the predatory instinct to chase fleeing prey but that still worked better than just standing there and dying.

With no time to waste the dragon assassin shot forward like a streak of silver moonlight, appearing in front of a werewolf which was running towards some villagers who were running towards the market square. Spinning like a top she delivered a roundhouse kick to the werewolf's temple, with enough strength that the beastman's body was lifted off of the ground and launched backwards several yards. Landing on all fours Akeya charged forward even as her target was still in the air, quickly closing the gap before another werewolf stepped forward and lunged at her with a large claw. Tensing all her muscles Akeya launched herself and slammed her scaled fist into that mutt's face. Due to the timing the werewolf's own forward momentum combined with the force of Akeya's punch. The result was that the beast flipped backwards, the back of its head slamming against the ground after which it only managed to move around groggily.

Not wanting to let her first target go Akeya turned back into moonlight, flashing forward until she was underneath the unfortunate werewolf. Rolling onto her shoulders and supporting herself with her hands she kicked the werewolf up into the air with both feet, then flipped herself back upright and jumped after it. Once she met it in the air the lycanthrope tried to swing at her with one arm, but its strike was deflected by the sturdy dragon tail which at the same time slammed into its stomach to smash it against the ground with enough force to send up a cloud of dust.

Akeya was really glad she was fighting werewolves, because she might've killed it if it had been a human.

That was the moment when Serilda made the earth quake, which meant the twilight dragon had the fortune of being in the air when it started. Flapping her wings she overlooked the situation for a second before she divebombed into one of the wolfmen who were trying to remain upright. Grabbing it by the head she spun around, dragging the large body behind her. Slamming the head against the still rumbling earth the beast was knocked out as the force of Akeya's fall was augmented by the spin, all the force ramming into its skull and making its brain bounce inside as if a ball of rubber. The dragon thought she felt the bone casing crack as well, so maybe she overdid that a bit.

Watching the rest of the mindless morons get thrown high up the dragoness gave a brief grin before she jumped onto one of the cyclones, using the upward force to chase the airborne wolves down.

Ramming her fist into the back of the head she made the werewolf tumble in mid-air. Without waiting to see how it would pan out she then flashed over to the next werewolf, this time grabbing it by one arm and pulling it towards herself while at the same time slamming her open palm into its chin to daze it. She repeated similar attacks on each of the werewolves which had been thrown into the air, until finally they'd all fallen down onto the ground and she was the only one remaining in the night sky.

Raising both claws she gathered the essence of dark from the black heavens, forming it into at least a dozen small pitch-black spheres. With a downwards motion all the spheres flew down as if bolts shot from crossbows. With pinpoint precision each sphere hit a werewolf square in the chest or the back. The wind was knocked out of their lungs and the earth around them cracked while the air was filled with the screams of beasts in agony.

Landing on the ground Akeya spun around to face the last enemy. This one had received her attacks just like the rest, but instead of being down for the count it had easily stood back up after the barrage had ended. Combining that fact with the strong build and the white fur and the dragoness figured that this one was a little bit stronger than the average.

"Careful." Was all Akeya said before the wolfman howled and dashed forward, fast enough that Akeya could barely dodge. Rolling to the side she spun around in time to see the werewolf get ready for another attack, leaving the austere assassin with little time to think of much of a plan. Aside from hoping that Serilda could use this opportunity to attack the powerful monster from a blind spot.

"Character counts most when duty calls."

“I will stay until the job is complete, after they have returned to normal and everything is settled,” she assured Akeya. As far as Serilda was concerned, her task here wouldn’t be done until night had passed and everything had been settled.

Her partner raced ahead with her superior speed and was already making quick work of many of the werewolves there by the time Serilda caught up. The noblewoman did everything in her power to distract or incapacitate the rest so Akeya could take them down. The dragoness made the most of the opportunities Serilda gave her, using her wings to fly through the air and knock the great beasts around.

One creature stood out from the rest, however, and not just by color. The werewolf with curiously white fur had taken just as tough a beating as all the others, but had not gone down with the rest. It got back to its feet and set its eyes on the mages. Even as Akeya spoke her warning, the creature shot forward toward her with a blinding speed. The dragoness barely managed to get out of the way, but found herself being hotly pursued.

Thinking quickly, Serilda used her magic to tear a large section of Earth out from the ground near the fighting pair and with a flick of her wrist launched it at the beast. The large boulder slammed into the werewolf’s side, knocking it away from Akeya and toward herself. Serilda jumped forward with her glowing sword bared and met the oncoming lycanthrope with her sword, slicing a large shallow gash along the backside of one of its shoulders. It howled with rage and twisted in the air, managing to free itself from the inertia of the large rock.

Attention now on Serilda, it snarled and charged her just as quickly as it had her partner. She made no attempt to move out of the way, watching the creature bear down on her with a steady and calculating eye. It snarled and lashed out at her, looking to barrel into her and snap its jaws into her flesh, and for a moment it seemed it would accomplish its goal for she simply stood and waited. But right when the creature was about to make contact, it found itself passing harmlessly right through her body, powerful jaws cracking down on absolutely nothing at all.

Serilda spun expertly on her heel, delivering another blow with her energy draining sword to the werewolf’s back while it scrambled to recover from the unexpected missed attack. Yet again the creature roared with frustration, turning to set its dark eyes on her with a bloodthirsty glare. Instead of seeing her, however, it only saw the face of the boulder as Serilda had once again directed it back at the lycanthrope. It barely had enough time to brace its arms in front of itself before the chunk of earth smacked it again.

This time, however, it was more prepared. Its hind feet dug into the ground to slow itself down as it fought against the push of the giant rock until they both came to a standstill. With its great strength, it lifted the boulder off its head and hurled it back at her. With a swift squat, Serilda kicked herself up into the air several meters where she hovered in the sky, sword at the ready. She was a skilled swordswoman and mage, but she fought at her best when using a mixture of the two skills together, either to overwhelm a single opponent with multiple attacks like she had been with this white furred werewolf, or to allow herself to be a one woman army against a slew of opponents. At the moment, the werewolf’s angry eyes were set upon her with a hyper focus, Serilda using her powers to keep the creature’s attention and hopefully allow Akeya to sneak in a few more devastating blows.

[Job] Moondragon and Voidwalker {Akeya/Serilda] Empty Re: [Job] Moondragon and Voidwalker {Akeya/Serilda]

Post by Akeya 3rd February 2019, 3:13 pm

Akeya got the opportunity to catch her breath when a large rock smashed into the pale-furred werewolf's side and launched it towards her partner, who promptly stabbed it with her blessed sword. From the way that the transformed villager howled it was clear that the sword had its intended effect, but the dragoness didn't think that subduing this one was going to be easy.

Holding onto the ground with all four of her claws she watched as Serilda fought the werewolf, taking the opportunity to gather her wits and plan her next move. The other mage didn't seem to have any problem playing with the beast, but she wasn't going to take it down this way, at least not any time soon. Especially not if she wanted to make sure that she didn't inflict any serious wounds on the monster. Werewolves were extremely tough creatures, but a holy weapon could end up inflicting a fatal wound even if the wielder didn't intend it to. She'd have to take the opportunity presented by Serilda keeping the werewolf busy to take it down non-lethally.

When her companion jumped in to avoid the boulder flung back towards her the assassin struck. The werewolf's attention was on the floating figure, and because of that it didn't notice Akeya dashing forward low to the ground until she was already too close to be avoided. Diving underneath the tough bastard she caught herself with her scaled hands and planted her feet on the lycanthrope's stomach, transferring her forward momentum and adding her own strength to launch it high into the air. The creature growled, its claws slashing at her but missing her by inches as its upward momentum messed up its aim.

With her prey up in the air Akeya flipped herself upright and pushed herself away from the ground to follow suit, in the air once again turning into a streak of moonlight. Rather than attacking the werewolf from straight below she swerved to the side and then smashed right into it from a diagonal angle, sending it spinning and howling as her sharp claw carved into its side as she passed by. Looping around she repeated the process, the bipedal wolf turning into a ragdoll as it was knocked about while more and more claw marks appeared in its white pelt. While it made several attempts to strike back Akeya's moonlit form blinded it every time it tried to look straight at her, causing its swipes to always be off mark.

Only when she'd made sure that the werewolf was no longer in a position to resist due to being dizzy from all the tumbling and spinning did Akeya fly up and them ram into the wolf from above. Like a silver comet she headed straight for the ground with her prey right below her, having made sure she'd be on its back so it wouldn't be able to grab or claw at her. Grabbing it by the tail she then began to spin mid-air. Their descent was accompanied by a frenzied and panicked shriek from the transformed villager before they hit the ground, Akeya mercilessly ending the spinning fall by slamming the werewolf into the ground. The resulting impact created a small crater as stone-based shrapnel flew in every direction. She could hear the creature's bones creaking and groaning in protest to the sudden deacceleration and all the kinetic energy involved.

Amazingly despite this impact the werewolf was still moving after. Noticing that it was still trying to push itself up with trembling claws Akeya hissed and narrowed her eyes. Raising one clawed and scaled foot she brought it down hard on the prey's head, then repeated this until it stopped moving. During this time she didn't show any emotion other than mild annoyance through the narrowing of her eyes, as if she had expected it to go unconscious after the impact and was displeased that she had to repeatedly stomp its head into the ground before it would give up.

However even this resilient specimen couldn't shrug off this kind of brutal assault and eventually stopped moving. Once she had ascertained that it was indeed done Akeya first checked its pulse to see if it was still alive, then straighted up and looked at Serilda.

"I have to admit, I'm better at this when I don't have to keep them alive afterwards. Especially when they're as tough as this one." She indicated the last of the unconscious wolfmen with one hand, then looked around. "Although now that I think about it, it's strange that so far we've only seen male ones. Where are the females?"

As if to answer that question another howl could be heard from the village itself, from the market square. Akeya frowned as this one was a lot louder, then glanced at Serilda. "Might just have found one. Let's go." Spreading her wings she jumped up into the sky, flying over to see what they were dealing with this time.

"Character counts most when duty calls."

Akeya certainly knew when and how to capitalize on the moment. Serilda kept the beast’s attention focused on her, drawing it’s ire and keeping it moving so it wouldn’t have enough time to wonder where the other wizard had gone. When the lycanthrope was properly distracted, Akeya found her opportunity and landed a savage blow to the creature’s stomach and sending it flying up into the air. Since the werewolf clearly could not fly, it was at a severe disadvantage and the dragoness made clean work of it. One hit after another put the creature into an indefensible state and soon her partner dropped on it like a veritable comet and smashed it into the ground below.

Serilda descended as Akeya put a few final stomps on the beast to knock it out before double checking to make sure it was still alive. “Understandable,” the noblewoman said as her partner admitted that knocking them out came a little less easier to her than outright killing them did. Sometimes it was more difficult to reserve one’s strength than to simply fight at full force. “Though given that they don’t seem to have much control over their actions in this form, nor a choice in transforming or not, I can understand why the Council wants us to keep them alive.”

At the end of the day they were still people, still citizens of Fiore that deserved as much protection and safety as any others -- just required a bit more care at the moment when handling them. Serilda flicked some of the blood off her blade, away from Akeya, but did not put the weapon away just yet. The night was still young and they surely would find more creatures to fight before all this was done. Not wanting this particular specimen to get back up and come haunt them any time soon, Serilda did as she had with many others that night and gently lowered it into the ground until only its head was visible.

When Akeya mentioned that the werewolves so far had all been male, Serilda frowned in thought. “Strange. You’re right, they have all been male.” She really hadn’t thought much about that so far, mostly because she’d been preoccupied with all the fighting. Aside from this one, the beasts had so far all looked so similar that she’d just assumed there wasn’t much of a difference between the two, physically speaking. But as she thought back to fighting against the creatures she was reminded of certain dangling bits that would not have been found on any female werewolves. Was the lack of females significant toward something?

She wouldn’t get the chance to ponder about it, or even to ask questions. Another howl sounded, this one fairly loud in comparison to the others. Akeya seemed to think this one might actually be a female. Serilda wasn’t entirely sure how one could pick up on such a thing from this distance, but at this point she was used to the fact that her natural senses were a bit dulled in comparison to many other wizards she knew, particularly those that weren’t fully human as Serilda was. It could have been a higher pitch in the tone of the howl, or even a scent. Either way, it did not matter.

Akeya took to the sky and Serilda decided to stay on the ground, thinking it better to keep themselves split up so they’d be harder to target. She sprinted along the ground in the direction of the sound, legs pumping as hard as her heart and her lungs. Every time Serilda got into a lengthy battle such as this one, she found herself eternally grateful for Aster’s harsh tutelage and training over the years that had kept her body in peak physical condition. Serilda was tired, but not so much as to affect her work just yet -- particularly when she’d mostly been able to focus on spell work rather than physical combat thus far.

When they finally caught up to the source of the howl, what she saw actually stunned her a bit. This wolf was huge, bulging with muscles and covered in a bright golden shade of fur. It almost seemed to shimmer as the creature moved, and if it didn’t reek of being an even deadlier foe than their last one Serilda might have taken the time to actually admire it and deem it beautiful. It had long claws and powerful looking legs, moreso even than the one they’d just dispatched. There was also no mistaking that this creature was female.

The beast lifted her nose to the air and sniffed audibly, picking up their various scents. She eyed them both as if trying to decide whom she was going to attack. Knowing that Akeya would be more useful if she could get in a sneak attack, Serilda wasted no time in taking the initiative to draw the creature’s attention. Signaling for Xiuhcoatl to stay and flank, the Voidwalker ran to the side, strategically away from the beast. It took note of her swift movements and the predatory instincts kicked in, enticing the werewolf to give chase.

And chase it did. Serilda had an inclination that this lycanthrope would be even more swift than the last, given its size and the bulk of its leg muscles by comparison to the white furred one. But no amount of academic understanding could have prepared her for the reality of how quick the creature truly was in practice. Without so much as a running start, the female werewolf shot at her like a bullet out of a gun, closing the distance between them in a mere second. Serilda gasped in surprise and tapped into her magic, lightening the weight of her body so she could move more quickly.

She was just barely able to manage to dodge out of the way of those great claws, which swiped through the air so hard that Serilda was certain the thing would tear her to shreds in an instant with only a few blows. Her suspicions of that were only further affirmed when a sudden explosion from behind her caught her attention. Bits of wood rained down on her as a nearby tree cracked and split into a thousand spraying pieces. Serilda stared in shock for just a moment -- had that creature just swiped at her so hard through the air that it sent a shockwave to destroy what had been behind her?! “What the hell?” she asked herself.

The thing turned on a dime, too. It didn’t hesitate to pivot and follow the direction she’d leaped, already geared up for a second attack. Serilda raised her sword just in time to block the incoming blow. She managed to keep herself from being mauled, but the force of it still hit her weapon so hard that her arm went numb and she was thrown backward. The only reason it didn’t overwhelm her right then and there was because Xiuhcoatl managed to catch up and throw herself on the beast’s back, snapping her jaws around the nape of its neck and holding on tight.

With an enraged screed, the beast shook itself in an attempt to dislodge the smaller wolf to no avail. Finally, it reached behind its head and snatched the other animal, pulling it up and throwing it as well. By then, Serilda had quickly recovered from being tossed and sprinted forward once more to engage the beast. They needed to slow it down, first and foremost, or they were going to be in a lot of trouble.

With her free hand raised above her head, Serilda focused her magic and centered a spell upon herself. The air around her for several meters suddenly thinned and became so cold that frost flakes started to form in the air and gentle wisps of steam danced before the lips of all breathing creatures within the circumference of the spell. The female werewolf began to labor for breath like it had found itself at the top of a tall mountain where oxygen was more scarce, and even with all its great fur its muscles twitched in complaint against the frigid temperature.

It leaped at her again, but this time the werewolf was moving significantly slower. More than slow enough for Serilda to keep up with it. She kept her attention on the creature because it was still deadly. Serilda had only a brief moment of concern for her own wolf having been tossed aside like a newspaper, but her empathic connection to the smaller creature told her the canine was fine for now. With the thinned air keeping the werewolf shivering and hindered, Serilda continued to engage it carefully with her sword until Akeya could find a good time to dip in and land some strikes of her own.

[Job] Moondragon and Voidwalker {Akeya/Serilda] Empty Re: [Job] Moondragon and Voidwalker {Akeya/Serilda]

Post by Akeya 11th February 2019, 7:18 pm

There was no argument to be had from the dragon in regards to Serilda's comment about how these werewolves were still citizens of Fiore and thus undeserving of being killed off just for the unfortunate trait of going berserk every fifty years. Akeya was fully aware of this and acknowledged it despite it being very annoying in situations like these. Even so it was annoying to be charged by some big monster and not be allowed to just put it down, instead risking scale and limb in the attempt to subdue it peacefully (or at least peacefully enough that said monster would recover soon after it calmed down). She watched as Serilda put the big silver-furred wolf in the ground before the howl from the middle of the village made her take to the air and fly towards the market plaza with haste. If the howl had any connection to size and size had any connection to power this one would definitely be a hassle to deal with. Especially since the last specimen had already been a pain due to its high speed and endurance (and the claws).

With Serilda following on the ground the two of them quickly arrived at the plaza, where all of Akeya's suspicions were confirmed: this werewolf was bigger, it was a female werewolf, and it was a lot stronger than the white one. The golden fur looked lustrous but the dragoness didn't think the battlefield was a good place to admire the beauty of your enemy. In fact there were creatures and people who tried to distract you with beauty so they could stab you while you were impressed, so the battlefield definitely wasn't a good place for it.

Fortunately this time around Serilda was the main target so Akeya had plenty of time to figure out how to non-lethally assassinate this one. Most likely because the other mage was on the ground so the werewolf had an easier time spotting her.

That said she was honestly surprised by just how fast this creature was: Akeya herself was no slouch and yet she had trouble keeping track of this one. It wasn't at the point where she didn't stand a chance in following it though. Definitely in the area where she couldn't say with certainty that she would never lose sight of her target though. It was a good thing that Serilda was resourceful and managed to keep evading. The alternative would have been a sudden and gruesome end, because as the objects behind the swordswoman showed this monster wouldn't leave you with just flesh wounds if it got a clean hit on you.

Turning invisible Akeya circled above the plaza as her thoughts razed. Purely physical attacks weren't going to cut it here: she'd already had trouble taking down the silver-coated one with just physical force. Either she'd have to use some magic to increase her firepower or go full dragon so she could fight monster with another monster. Magic was probably the better choice here because she didn't want to make herself a bigger target.

She was forced to intervene when the wolf with the unusual coat jumped onto the golden werewolf and bit at it before being thrown off. The dragon dove down to grab the wolf before it impacted with one of the surrounding buildings and dropped it to the ground instead, relying on the beast's own abilities to land relatively unharmed. Although even a twisted ankle would be better than smashing into solid stone after being thrown with lots of force.

Well, she'd stayed on the background for long enough. Time to help out. Beyond catching a wolf. While the beautiful golden wolfwoman was closing in on Serilda Akeya flashed over to directly behind the target. Without a pause she spun and kicked it squarely in its temple. She then followed up with another kick on the back to launch herself backwards. Landing on the ground she saw the shimmering lycanthrope turn around and focus on her instead. Akeya's scales quickly covered her entire body as she took a low stance, her clawed hands becoming larger and less human-like as she flicked her tail behind her and bared her fangs.

Her prey didn't need any other encouragement and charged towards her. Once it left Serilda's freezing area it quickly recovered so it sped up even further. While appearing like a glimmering blur it snarled and struck at Akeya with a claw which would pierce the ground behind the dragoness if it didn't hit her first.

And then a dark string wrapped itself around the claw which was ready to tear the dragon apart. At the same time a sphere which looked like a miniature moon formed itself and slammed into the muscular arm. With thread pulling and orb pushing the werewoman's own momentum was exaggerated so her strike went wide and she lost her balance. Akeya herself also moved at high speed as she stepped in and slammed her large scaled fist straight into the monster's forehead while its own momentum was still carrying it forwards.

Not wanting to take any chances Akeya didn't stick around any longer after she'd delivered the strike and shadow stepped backwards. The orb and the string disappeared but they had already done their job. The golden werewolf was dazed: while it was extremely durable the twilight assassin had essentially used all its impressive speed and strength against it by sending it right back into her own face. It certainly wasn't going to do the trick on its own, but it was a damn good start to throw the target off balance and open it up for a follow-up attack.

As an experienced predator Akeya only needed a moment to ascertain that her target was now open, and she also had the experience and instincts to know that she couldn't waste a split second in this kind of situation. Taking a deep breath she gathering a large quantity of energy inside her lungs and released it with a loud roar. It was loud enough that even the female wolf's howl didn't match it, and with this roar came a wave of energy which would be difficult to describe: it was light and it was dark, it was azure and it was amber, it illuminated and it obscured. For a moment the market plaza was dominated by twilight, a shimmering, ephemeral and elusive state normally only found in glimpses when night and day changed places.

The unusual dragon's breath slammed into the golden figure and slammed it into the building behind. The wall cracked and creaked under the pressure before the attack ended. The dragoness responsible for the sudden onslaught flashed as a streak of silver towards Serilda. "Not yet. See if you can follow up." Having said this she turned invisible once more and prepared her next attack.

The biggest of the lycanthropes in the village was already recovering. On the front most of its golden fur was now missing and what remained had lost all colour and luster. The skin visible underneath the fur had undergone the same change, as well as what flesh was observable where the attack had managed to actually penetrate both tough skin and resilient fur. Nevertheless the woman with the monstrous figure and vitality kicked itself out of the hole in the wall, although it then promptly stumbled and seemed to have trouble controlling its movements as they were sloppier than before. It also was having trouble breathing as if it had been sprinting for miles on end. Some of it could be attributed to Serilda denying it oxygen for a portion of the fight, but at the same time it was clear that Akeya's dragon breath had done more than eat away at its body.

Post by Serilda Sinclair 19th February 2019, 5:19 pm

"Character counts most when duty calls."

Even as she fought back the beast -- or, more realistically, kept herself on the defensive so that she wouldn’t get mauled to death -- Serilda could sense that Akeya had caught Xiuh before the wolf could come into any serious harm, letting her fall back to the ground with a bit more control. Though the dragoness had been invisible, Serilda’s Void sense always kept her keenly aware of where anything in the physical world around her was located, so she did not need to see people or things to know where they stood. She was grateful that the other woman had taken the time to help the wolf, making a mental note to give her appreciation at a more appropriate time.

Right about when Serilda was starting to lose a bit of ground Akeya found her opportunity and slipped into the fray, appearing behind the werewolf and slamming her foot into its temple. Another swift kick put some distance between the two, and with her threatening stance the dragoness suddenly appeared to be a more appealing target for the beast. It bolted for Akeya, its speed picking up once it exited the range of the Empty Chill spell, giving Serilda second to regather herself.

Serilda watched as the dragoness utilized her magic to throw the lycanthrope off guard. Not wanting to leave the fight up to the other woman, she followed the trail of the fight, keeping just enough distance so that the beast would stay focused on the other woman and perhaps provide Serilda with an opportunity to land a couple well placed blows. Akeya managed to daze the thing, which was definitely helpful -- and no small feat.

As it turns out, it was probably a good thing that Serilda was keeping her distance from the combating pair. Akeya took a deep breath into her lungs while the werewolf attempted to steady itself, and blew out a fierce breath weapon. It was fascinating to behold, somehow both light and dark with a mixture of colors that were reminiscent of the sky at dusk or dawn. The roar echoed in Serilda’s ears, a deep bellow that put the werewolf’s previous howl to shame in terms of pitch and intensity. So great was the strength of the blast that it knocked the lycanthrope back and into the nearest building, causing the stopping wall to crack and groan from the abuse.

“On it,” the Voidwalker said as Akeya zipped past, once more ducking into the cover of her magic to prepare for a better attack. The beast was already starting to regain its equilibrium, though it was missing large patches of fur and what was left no longer had as much sheen or luster to it. It pried itself out of the wall and stumbled forward, laboring for breath. May as well make that a little harder for it, Serilda figured. She settled her magic into the creature’s lungs and expelled the space within, constricting the organs and preventing them from filling again with oxygen.

Then, she tapped once more into the air around her, creating dozens of needle thin darts that tore through the sky and into the choking beast’s flesh. Tufts of its fur and bits of blood went spraying as it looked like it had been riddled with buckshot all over the front of its body. When the spell ended, Serilda signaled to Xiuh and raced forward. At the last second she tapped into her magic and used it to boost her speed just as the wolf slammed its body into the back of the lycanthrope’s knees.

Serilda slapped the flat of her blade on the werewolf’s chest, pushing her back over Xiuh’s body and knocking the creature to the ground. With a cry she lifted her sword and jammed it so hard through the beast’s bicep that it pierced through the other side and pinned it to the ground. The creature screamed with agony. The wound was far from fatal -- a good healing would patch it right up once things were back to normal -- but even a few long seconds of Moonlight’s exposure to the beast’s flesh was more than enough for it to sap a great deal of energy from her.

By the time the Voidwalker removed her sword, the creature was heavily weakened. Before it could attempt to stand, as it sat there wheezing and struggling she used some of her magic to form a protective frost around both entry points of the wound to keep her from bleeding out. Then, she dropped the creature into the ground.

A bit of wandering around the area lead them to a handful more werewolves, but nothing nearly as powerful as the golden one they faced. Even tired and having been fighting all night, it took little work for Akeya and Serilda to bring the beasts down. By the time the sun rose and the people started turning back to normal, all the werewolves had been captured and restrained with a miraculous zero casualties on all sides, and all the two wizards had to focus on was just keeping the non-cursed folk from trying to retaliate -- which was simple enough just by feeding them information that if they got too close they could become infected with the curse themselves.

Representatives of the council showed up conveniently after sunrise to take stock of the situation and verify that there had been no fatalities. Healers were set to work on those with broken bones and more serious wounds once the lycanthropes had returned to their natural forms, confused and in a lot of agony. Once Serilda and Akeya had done their part to turn the unfortunate citizens to the council representatives for care and treatment, they were allowed to part with their payments as well as the council’s profound thanks.

Serilda took the time to thank Akeya properly, both for saving Xiuhcoatl from a potentially bad injury as well as on being such a fantastic partner to work with. In fact, the Voidwalker went so far as to express an interest in working with the dragoness again sometime in the future. She felt that the two of them had paired quite well together. Presuming the other woman was interested, she would exchange contact information with her and assure her that if Akeya ever required assistance on another mission she should feel free to reach out. From there, they said their goodbyes and went their separate ways to recuperate and relax after a long, grueling night.
