Re: Just a Normal Halloween
Halloween had come around once again. Yes! Finally! The tricks, the treats, the exciting festivities! It was glorious! If Aliarey actually took the time to decide a favorite holiday Halloween would be it. A normal Halloween. None of that living in a horror movie type of Halloween that had been known to happen from time to time. Alia had enough of that during the rest of the year with all the weirdness she lived and the dangerous jobs that had the fancy rewards. Yes. She was ready to have a good time being a normal girl hanging out at a festival with a friend. Who would that friend be? Diana Winchester, of course! The one person that Aliarey would actually kind of sort of maybe publicly call a friend. A part of her still didn't really want to use that label as a form of protecting herself in case things ever go wrong with the friendship, but well, most of her was accepting of it. It was complicated.
Regardless of what Diana was to her the fact still remained that Aliarey had invited the fellow blonde to the local Halloween festival taking place in Talonia. It was funny really. The two of them had met during one Halloween event in the past. One in which the entire focus was to collect pumpkins. Why? Aliarey couldn't remember. The main thing she remembered was being dumb enough to go pumpkin picking in a haunted village. Diana had been too since she showed up there for the exact same goal. What was going through their heads at the time was anyone's guess. It was stupid logic that eventually led them to be attacked by the spookiness that was the curse of Halloween. Aliarey still couldn't look at a crow or jack o lantern without being overly suspicious of its intent while around her.
"I think I gained a few pounds. This thing is tighter than I remember!" Alia muttered to herself while trying to get her costume fitting right. She got it on all right, but damn was it uncomfortable now. Skintight uncomfortable in areas that really needed to breathe. In truth, the costume wasn't really a costume at all but it sure did a good job of passing off as one. It was actually part of her requip magic back in the day. A type of armor that was useful way back when she barely knew how to shoot straight. It... had been a few years since the last time she wore it. The costume still looked fine and all, but wearing it all night was going to be a pain. Oh well. Too late to get something else now. All of her other requip armors of the past would have the same result, and it was too late to go shopping for something else.
As the blonde walked through the streets of Talonia the costume started to become more bearable. She went from walking as if she had a stick where it ought not to be to being able to look normal. Most likely because the material was forced to stretch out and fit with each movement, but eh, as long as it didn't rip completely she didn't care. She was where she wanted to be and that was not a tailor shop. It was the grounds of the festival! Halloween decorations and lights were placed all around to the point that the requip mage barely even recognized the town. She could see even from there that the festival had plenty for her and Diana to do. What activities they would choose were still left undecided. Her green-eyed companion needed to be there for that. For now, Alia would wait. Standing around waiting was too boring for her to handle, however. So, in an effort to find a small amount of distraction Aliarey walked on over to an area that had some free punch. It was close to the entrance so she wasn't too worried about being hard to find. Plus, she was thirsty and could use a refreshment during the wait.
As soon as she reached the punch stand a fresh cup of the beverage had been offered to her without prompt. She drank it, not picking up on the comments and changes of those around her that had taken a sip from their punch cups before her. It had a fruity flavor to it, although she couldn't pick up on which fruit or blend. When she brought her cup down from her lips she noticed something was a bit odd. Her gloved hand had become transparent. Her stare followed the hand to see the skin of her arm was the same. It wasn't just her clothing. It wasn't even just her arm! Her cerulean gaze looked down to see that the rest of her had become entirely see-through. It was as if she had taken the qualities of a ghost! "Argh, seriously?! Can't even get five minutes into this festival without something dumb happening to me!"

Re: Just a Normal Halloween
Walking into Talonia for the first time in her life, Diana stopped for a moment to admire the festive lights and other appropriate Halloween decorations hanging in the town. Even though she had never been here before she had still managed to find her way here without too much difficulty. Diana had traveled to Talonia at the invitation of her longtime partner Aliarey Casady, the closest thing she had to a real friend. They had been through a lot together and had become very good acquaintances, if not outright friends.
Since it was Halloween, Diana came dressed for the occasion. She was wearing her costume from a couple of years ago that was based on a character from an anime series. Diana could not remember the name of the series off the top of her head, but it had something to do with a collection of famous old warships personified as young women. Diana had forgotten that she even had the costume, but Ami had managed to find it for her after a bit of digging through Diana's closet.
Diana was dressed in a white off-shoulder dress with a cream-colored corset, a small crown attached to a headband that she was wearing, and thighhigh stockings. The only costume element she was missing was blue contacts so she had blue eyes, but Diana could not find any in time for the party, so she decided to do without them. Ami had been a big help in helping the blonde prepare for the party. Not only did she help Diana find the costume, but she had also helped Diana apply a special makeup to her back that would make the numerous small scars on it virtually invisible. No one would ever know that her mother had abused her for years.
Now that she was in Talonia she needed to find Aliarey. The green-eyed blonde began to think about what activity her partner would gravitate towards first and soon reached a conclusion. Based on past experience, Aliarey liked free things, especially free food and drink.
Diana would look for a place that offered free food or drink.
Diana walked off to the side of the main path leading deeper into Talonia, then looked around. Within moment she spotted signs pointing the way towards a stand that offered Halloween Punch. That was exactly where she needed to go.
Waiting for a group of people in various costumes to pass by her, the green-eyed blonde waited until everyone in the group had passed by before walking over to the stand. Once the coast was clear Diana briskly walked over to the stand before the next crowd of partygoers could block the path.
-At the Punch Sampling Stand-
Diana walked over to the stand and found that it had a lot more customers than she had anticipated. A lot of people in different costumes were standing around and talking amongst themselves about either the event itself or the punch that they had just drank. Diana soon spotted a blue-eyed blonde woman in a cowgirl costume and felt a magic signature from her. That was Aliarey all right. But before she greeted her partner she decided to get a cup of punch.
Diana walked up to the counter of the stand and was offered a cup of punch before she could even come to a stop. Diana accepted it and thanked the vendor, then drank it on the spot. It had a strange fruity taste that was reminiscent of kiwi by itself or apple mixed with another fruit, but she could not quite tell for certain what the taste was. However, she soon had other concerns.
Something about her vision was off. Everything was a bit darker than it had been before she drank the punch. Diana looked around a bit more and that was when it dawned on her.
Diana noticed that her view of the world had turned green!
Everything was green. Aliarey's hair, Aliarey's eyes, the guy wearing the mummy costume standing a meter to her right talking to the attractive red-headed female wearing a black Victorian dress with matching hat. Diana walked over to Aliarey and was about to greet her companion when she noticed something off about the blue-eyed blonde besides just a green tint.
Aliarey had taken on a ghostly appearance!
"Hello, Aliarey." Diana casually greeted her partner, seemingly unperturbed by her partner's appearance because the huntress was preoccupied with her own predicament. Diana was still trying to get used to seeing the world with a green tint. It was a jarring change from the norm, but it was not anything that she could not overcome. It was still weird, though.

Re: Just a Normal Halloween
Aliarey had been way too busy with the fact she had turned ghostly to notice that Diana had approached the punch stand. She never was one for being alert to non-dangerous happenings around her. A warning about those punch drinks would have been given for sure if she knew, but the blue-eyed blonde was too busy testing whether or not she could go through objects like a ghost too. Some time poking random people and their stuff later she had come to the conclusion that the transparency effect was just cosmetic. She didn't actually have the powers of a ghost. A damn shame. Being able to walk through walls and become invisible would have been so totally beneficial. Maybe she could talk Trey into making a gadget that could pull that off instead. Now that the idea was in her head she wasn't about to let it go.
A greeting interrupted her testing. The voice was a familiar one and the source of it was the very person she had been waiting for. She turned her body around a bit so she could get a look just to be sure. With it being Halloween someone could have been impersonating Diana for all she knew. She was scary when pissed off, after all. Maybe she should have used that idea for herself. Anyway, she focused her thoughts before they got too far off track. Arching a brow, her quizzical stare landed on the other mage. It looked like Diana physically. The costume though she didn't think existed in her friend's closest. If she were being honest with herself Aliarey would even say that it made Diana look cute. Her brain felt corrupted by that thought. She wasn't one of those girly girls that thought things were cute... unless they were a part of her secret plushie collection. But that was different!
"Howdy, partner" Aliarey broke her silence to avoid staring awkwardly for too long, waving her hand as she spoke her greeting. Her voice mimicked that of a country girl, or at least her best impression of one. She fully turned to face Diana, also taking a moment to adjust the hat of her own costume.
"Don't expect me to say 'boo' or anything. This ghostly trick was not supposed to be a part of the costume. That's what I get for drinking the free stuff, I guess. It's a very hard lesson to remember." A small laugh was let out at her own expense and to kind of break the icy awkwardness from a moment ago. Hopefully, Diana would think nothing of that or at least quickly forget about it. "Nice costume. I didn't expect you to wear something that fancy but I guess that's what dressing up in costumes is about. What's it from?" Aliarey had zero knowledge of anime. Her first guess would have been it was a fancy maid costume or just a casual outfit for a noble or something. The little crown and the metal necklace broke that theory though. It had to be something a bit more than a basic it could be anything costume.

Re: Just a Normal Halloween
Partially out of politeness towards her old friend and partially because she was still getting used to seeing the world in green, Diana remained silent until Aliarey greeted her in turn. When the transparent blue-eyed blonde finally did it was with a hokey cowgirl accent that had to be heard to be believed. Diana blinked and not just because she was seeing a transparent Aliarey in green, which was a mildly disorienting sight.
She had blinked because Aliarey had used a hokey cowgirl accent.
After silently getting over the surprise Diana listened to Aliarey explain that she had turned transparent as a result of drinking the free punch. Diana was dealing with her own problem that resulted from drinking the free punch, so she did not really question her friend's story. They had been on enough adventures for Diana to know that Aliarey was not trying to pull a fast one on her by claiming that some punch had turned her transparent. It was Halloween, after all.
The green-eyed blonde listened to Aliarey ask about her costume and where it was from. Diana was prepared for that question... sort of.
"The costume I am wearing comes from an anime series about famous old warships personified as young women. I forget the exact name of the series, but the word "Collection" is in the title. The character in question is named Warspite, I believe." Diana answered Aliarey's question the best she could with what little knowledge she had. Diana did not have a lot of knowledge about the series her costume had come from, but she remembered "Warspite" being the name of the character she was dressed as. The only real problem with Diana's portrayal was that the character had blue eyes and Diana had green eyes. Maybe she should have made an effort to find some decent blue contact lenses to wear before going to the party.
On second thought, Diana cared about the accuracy of her costume... up to a point.
Right now she did not care that her portrayal of the character was not accurate down to sharing the character's blood type, birthday, or favorite color. She was wearing a costume for a Halloween party, so that should be all that mattered. Wearing a costume that was accurate except for a few small details was good enough for her. She doubted that Aliarey cared all that much either.
After giving that answer Diana looked at her friend for a few moments before speaking again.
"What would you like to do from here, Aliarey?" Diana asked her friend an important question.

Re: Just a Normal Halloween
"Uh huh," the two syllables were spoken slowly as Aliarey absorbed that information. Diana was a fan of anime? What? Aliarey couldn't even picture Diana sitting on a couch binge-watching her favorite anime show. It was... it just didn't work! Her mind aborted the imagery before even attempting it. "Didn't realize you were an anime fan. You still surprise me in ways I didn't expect. Not that I had you completely figured out or anything. A fan of anime just really seemed too out there for you to even guess. But, I like it." It was possible that Diana just liked the costume and wasn't accustomed to watching much anime, but Aliarey didn't really consider that option. She liked that maybe Diana did have some things about her that made her persona a little less stiff.
"I was about to ask you that, actually," Aliarey answered the question with a small laugh. Yes, what were the two of them going to do? There was so much to do! Well, not really. Only one thing was on the requip mage's mind right then. It was the highlight of Halloween.... for kids usually. Luckily the festival also allowed the adults to participate for whatever reason. Free candy? Oh hell to the yes. There was no way Aliarey was missing that. "But since you asked me there is something I want to do." A mischievous smile formed on her face as she said those words. She walked off a bit to a different stand that had a large assortment of empty candy buckets and bags. The basic ones were free while the more fancier ones had a price tag. It shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone which Aliarey chose.
"Here you go," Aliarey told Diana once she came back, handing her companion a green-colored pumpkin-shaped candy bucket. She kept the blue one for herself. Their eye colors being the sole reason for who got which bucket. "We're going down Trick-or-Treat Street!"

Re: Just a Normal Halloween
Diana could tell that Aliarey was as incredulous about her watching anime as Diana was about Aliarey using a hokey cowgirl accent when greeting her. Diana was somewhat amused by that, but she did not show it. Instead she talked a bit about the show she had gotten her Warspite costume from.
"I just started watching the series a few days ago, Aliarey. It is not anything deep or life-changing, but it is good to watch for mindless entertainment. The show is more a slice-of-life show where the ship girls have the occasional fight against evil versions of themselves made in a scientist's laboratory for the purpose of world conquest, but neither group of girls get seriously hurt and on occasion they part ways without anyone getting hurt. However, there are a few genuine rivalries and those frequently get heated whenever the rivals meet." Diana gave a brief rundown of how long she had been watching the show and what it was about. It was not the most original or riveting plot ever committed to paper, but it was good for mindless afternoon entertainment. Besides, it was nice to watch a show where not every disagreement had to end in a shootout with extensive property damage and bodies lying all over the place.
Diana listened to Aliarey talk about what she had wanted to do next. The green-eyed blonde followed Aliarey over to a stand and received a green plastic bucket that was shaped like a pumpkin. Taking the bucket into her hands, Diana stared blankly at the transparent cowgirl. What on Earthland was she supposed to do with it?
Then the green-eyed blonde looked around and noticed that people with buckets were streaming towards a certain location. Diana still did not understand why that was until Aliarey clued her in. The two blondes were going to "Trick-Or-Treat Street"... whatever and wherever that was.
"What is Trick Or Treat? And what is Trick-Or-Treat Street?" Diana asked Aliarey with total sincerity.

Re: Just a Normal Halloween
"Huh, sounds... interesting? Not the worst I've heard, I guess. Good for mindless entertainment like you said." Diana's rundown of the show was less than impressive. In her opinion anyway. Then again, a lot of shows would probably be like that when explained to her. She wasn't much of a couch potato that sat around and watched series all day. Her laziness was generally occupied doing other types of time wasters. At least there was fighting in the description. Violence was always fun. The topic would then lose interest for her, her one-track mind now having switched its focus to obtaining a mountain of candy.
The workings of Alia's mind came to a screeching halt and reversed itself once Diana's question reached her ears and was fully processed. "Wait a minute. You seriously don't know what trick or treating is?" Aliarey was in a complete state of disbelief. Who didn't know what trick or treating was? What child grew up without doing that every year? Maybe Aliarey was an idiot and completely ignorant of other childhoods and cultures other than her own. That was a fact. Sure. But Diana was dressed up in costume so it was kind of weird that she knew that much but had zero knowledge of trick or treating.
Aliarey began to spin the handle of the pumpkin candy bucket around her wrist repeatedly as she thought about how to answer the question. "Well, I don't know the textbook definition or the history or whatever else intellectuals would say about it so I'll just give you the basic obvious version. You get free stuff. Usually lots and lots of candy, which is what you're really after during trick or treating, but sometimes you can get other stuff from people that refuse to give people candy because of concerns about cavities or something. Some people would consider that a bad thing but I take it as a good opportunity to stock up on free dental supplies. Don't ask why people do this because I have zero clue. It's just an annual tradition. For kids. Adults participating is normally frowned on but this festival is an exception. Lucky us, huh?"
Aliarey began to walk away and towards the event she had picked out for the two of them, still spinning the bucket around her wrist. While walking she began to answer Diana's other question. With Aliarey being how she was, she expected Diana to follow and listen. She had already planned on participating to get her candy so that was what she was going to do. If Diana didn't want to do it at all then she'd just have to wait for her to finish. "For your second question, Trick or Treat Street is where we do the trick or treating. We'll go house to house and get some goodies to go into our candy buckets. There's really nothing more to it than that. Some houses might have a setup to scare people that come to their door but that's just part of the fun."
Aliarey followed the multitude of signs that were on lamposts, walls, and hung up that pointed the direction of the street for the event. The signs led to a residential area of Talonia where pretty much every house along the street had volunteered to be part of the event. Their houses were all decorated with a variety of spooky or Halloween festive themes, and people were spread everywhere as they walked and ran from house to house. It was pretty nice. There was even a scene of a little girl with two teenagers and a black cat running away from three older women dressed as witches. People were having their own fun that's for sure. Now all they needed were the toilet paper and egged houses as well as the candy stealing punks to make the whole thing complete. Hopefully, Trick or Treat Steet wasn't that truthful to the normal trick or treating expectations.
Aliarey started with the first house, following another group that had excitedly run ahead. If Diana had come along she would nod towards the group as a way to let the other blonde know to follow their example. That meant walking to the door, knocking or ringing the doorbell if it was closed, and once opened proudly hold out the candy bucket and shout "Trick or Treat!" Aliarey did the same and couldn't help but feel a bit stupid for doing so as a full-grown adult. The free candy was worth it though. From house to house the strategy was repeated, scoring her more and more candy. If Diana was present she'd even try and let her take the lead on a few houses so she'd get the full experience. Except for the traditional dark house that every kid knew to avoid on Halloween. Aliarey skipped that one. There was no way she was taking part in that horror story.
By the time the end of the street was reached Aliarey's candy bucket was nearly full. It wasn't the overflowing score of candy she had wanted but it was acceptable. She could understand that most of the candy was probably saved for the kiddos running around. The unfortunate part of the whole thing was that they were at the end of the street... which meant there was a long way back to the festival. That sucked.

Re: Just a Normal Halloween
Diana listened to Aliarey briefly comment on the description of the anime the green-eyed blonde had talked about before moving on to the subject of Trick Or Treat. The blue-eyed blonde was beside herself with incredulity when it was implied that Diana did not understand what Trick Or Treat was and what Trick-Or-Treat Street was. The huntress withstood Aliarey's incredulous glare because the former was being completely truthful. It was not her fault if Aliarey could not handle the truth.
Eventually Aliarey gave Diana a short version of what Trick Or Treat was all about. The short version was that they were going to collect free candy. There was also a warning about people who did not believe in handing out candy for whatever reason and handed out other things like dental supplies. Diana blinked when she heard that segment of the explanation. Of course Aliarey was undeterred by that because her desire for free stuff trumped her disappointment at getting dental supplies instead of candy.
The blue-eyed blonde had an interesting way of looking at things, but Diana was not going to argue with it. She listened to her friend explain that Trick-Or-Treat Street was the venue they were going to go Trick-Or-Treating on tonight. They were going to go door-to-door and get free candy. That was an explanation that went to the heart of the matter.
Diana looked forward and saw a lot of signs pointing the way towards Trick-Or-Treat Street. The signs were plastered anywhere there was space to put one. Diana followed Aliarey towards the venue where she would participate in Trick Or Treat for the first time in her life.
-On Trick-Or-Treat Street-
Diana followed Aliarey to the destination and was rewarded with a view of an entire neighborhood that had offered to host the activity. Diana was impressed by the fact that it was not just a few houses, but an entire neighborhood... and a "good" one at that. There was no sign of the local hoodlums, which was fine with her.
Diana stood back and watched Aliarey and a group of Trick-Or-Treaters show the blonde from Bellum how it was done. When Diana saw the demonstration she now understood what to do. She picked the house across from the one Aliarey and the others had went to and walked up to the door, which was decorated with a paper skeleton taped to the door. Diana walked up to the door, knocked on it, and stepped back.
A middle-aged man wearing a blue sweater vest and khaki dress pants with black shoes opened the door.
"Trick Or Treat!" Diana said and held out her bucket. The man smiled.
"I'm a dentist and I won't be giving you candy. Take this instead! It's much better for you!" He said to her and dropped a travel-size tube of toothpaste, a travel- size spool of dental floss, and a purple toothbrush into her bucket.
"Have a good night!" He smiled again and shut the door. Diana waited until her back was turned before frowning deeply. This was not a promising sign.
After knocking on every door except for that of one unlit house that gave off so much bad energy it was palpable to her, Diana eventually reached the end of the street but did not have very much candy to show for it. She had over three dozen miniature boxes of raisins, at least a dozen travel-size tubes of toothpaste, and at least a dozen travel-size spools of dental floss in her bucket plus a pink toothbrush to add to the purple one she had gotten from the first house she had visited. She also had three apples in her bucket. Diana dug deep and found only eight fun-size bags of candy. To say that Diana was disappointed would be an enormous understatement.
Diana eventually caught up with Aliarey and spoke to her fellow blonde.
"Now that we have finished Trick-Or-Treat Street, what activity will we be doing next?" Diana asked Aliarey. The green-eyed blonde casually looked into her partner's bucket and noticed that Aliarey had more candy than she did. While Diana was already seeing green thanks to the punch, at least she did not turn into a green-eyed monster over her partner's success. She could accept the fact that this year was just not her year for getting a bucket full of candy.
Still, she had wanted some candy tonight.
Oh well.

Re: Just a Normal Halloween
The candy looting had come to an end and Diana had found where Alia was waiting. Technically, not so much waiting as it was more of her going through her pumpkin-shaped bucket and drooling as she eyed each candy piece. She was going to get sick on candy eating later that night. That was definitely planned. She was a child in an adult's body at that point. Until she saw Diana's bucket. She ignored the question asked and peered into the green pumpkin bucket the other blonde held. "What all did you get?" One tradition Aliarey failed to mention at the time was trading candy with friends. What one didn't like another might have. Trade five fruity pieces for a high-tier piece of peanut butter chocolate. It was all part of the fun.
"Oh, ouch! You barely got any candy!" Did the locals not like Diana's costume or something? Aliarey had gone through the same street and somehow managed much more than her friend. So weird and kind of offensive. The imaginary thought of going to every house and demanding they fill Diana's bucket full of candy like a robber raiding a bank played in her mind. As much fun as that sounded she really didn't want the Rune Knights and whatever other kind of security chasing her down just because the locals dared not give Diana the candy she deserved.
While Aliarey did feel bad for Diana she wasn't very generous or charitable. It didn't matter that it was Diana's first time Trick or Treating or not. She'd have to make sure she got something in return before making the offer. Like dental supplies. Diana had gotten so much of that. How many dentists lived in Talonia?! "I'll trade you some of my candy for some of that dental stuff. I'll even take it all." Curious, she leaned even further to get a better look and rummage through the pumpkin's contents. "Got any mouth wash in there? Mints? Can't regret life if you at least have fresh breath. Usually." There were a lot of exceptions to that rule but she wasn't about to list them all.
"Going back to your question though... uhhh.... there's a fortune teller tent somewhere. That sounded cool. But there are other things too like some maze and courage test, a pumpkin carving contest, a costume contest... I can't remember what else. I kind of dragged you into Trick or Treat Street where your luck was worse than mine, so I'll let you pick something this round."

Re: Just a Normal Halloween
When asked what she got for her Trick Or Treat efforts, Diana concealed her disappointment long enough to comment in a neutral tone.
"I got a lot of dental supplies... and a few apples. And some packs of raisins. Only eight fun-size packs of candy." Diana listed what she had gotten for her trouble while Aliarey peered into the green-eyed blonde's bucket. She should have known that when the first door she knocked on belonged to a dentist she was going to be in for disappointment. She was duly disappointed when she got what she did.
Diana listened to Aliarey's offer to trade the dental supplies for some of the latter's candy. Diana briefly entertained the idea of accepting the trade before deciding to turn it down. She had forgotten to get some toothpaste the other day and really needed some. The huntress supposed that this evening had a silver lining after all, even if she could not see it because she was seeing green.
"I will keep my dental supplies, Aliarey. And I wish I had mouthwash to give you, but they did not see fit to put any in my bucket. At least I got some toothpaste I needed." Diana replied. She really should have gone shopping for toothpaste because she was starting to run low, but now thanks to the mysterious ways Trick Or Treat worked she had enough for a few weeks until she could go buy a full-size tube or two of toothpaste. At least it was a good toothpaste brand and not a cheap one that tasted like glue mixed with mint.
After that exchange Diana heard her friend list off the activities they could take part in. That list started off with fortune telling and ended with a costume contest before Aliarey admitted that she could not remember everything that the event had to offer. Diana was not upset by that lapse in memory because the first activity mentioned had caught her interest.
"I would not mind doing the Fortune Telling activity." Diana said to Aliarey. Even though Diana did not put much stock in what they said visiting the fortune teller would be a good way to be entertained for a few minutes while she thought of what activity she wanted to do next. Maybe Aliarey would be up for the activity or maybe she would want to do something more exciting. Diana would find out soon enough.

Re: Just a Normal Halloween
Alia stood up straight and took a step back to make some space between Diana and herself. Her disappointment was written on her face, but it was very mild. She would just have to get some mouthwash and other dental supplies elsewhere. Maybe some other unlucky kid would trade. "Darn. Oh well. At least I got my free candy." The blue-eyed blonde smiled while hugging her small treasure trove of candy.
With their Trick or Treating event fully completed it was time to focus on the next thing. Diana had picked a good one. Whether it was because it happened to be the first thing she listed or because she truly thought she would enjoy it didn't really matter to Alia. It sounded cool, fun, and would have been what she would have picked herself. Was Halloween her lucky day or what? "Fortune Telling it is!" Aliarey exclaimed excitedly, raising her free arm and then lowering it to point forward like a stiff soldier. "This way!" There was only one way to go and that was right back the way they had come, leaving the event street and being once again within the festival's boundaries.
Once the two of them were back in the crowd it didn't take long to find the fortune telling event. Blue and golden signs that had an eerie look with a dash of mysticism were spread throughout the festival and pointed the way. The two women would eventually find the small path that led directly to the fortune teller, lit by intricate candles along the ground for looks and so no one would trip. It was a lot darker there than the rest of the festival, after all. At the end of the path stood a tent made of a rich dark purple cloth. Blue and golden embroidery added further design as well as the lights that were added to its top. Fancy long candle stick holders surrounded the tent, the wax pillars within lit with an abnormal color for fire. A couple walked out of the tent. Customers that had seen the fortune teller and were done with the activity. No one else was around so that meant Diana and Aliarey were next in line. How convenient.
"Well it looks like the typical fortune telling tent. Lets see what the future holds for us!" There was a hint of sarcasm in Aliarey's tone. Sure visiting a fortune teller during a festival was fun but that didn't mean she put much stalk into what was said. It was a game, not a call from an omniscient god that gave a glimpse of one's destiny. The costumed cowgirl used her hands to spread the opening of the tent and walked inside. She kept it open for Diana to walk in as well before removing her hold on the cloth and allowing it to naturally drop and conceal the opening.
The inside of the tent was a lot more than the requip mage expected. A simple table and crystal ball was about all she figured would be within, but there were also shelves filled with books, a cauldron, many other decorative knick knacks, and the smell of burning incense. A lot of detail went into what was normally just a simple festival gag. There were two chairs at the table, one where a customer would sit and on the other side already sat the mysterious woman skilled in the ways of fake festival fortunes. Or would they really be real?
The fortune teller looked at the two women, not at all surprised by their entrance. She looked as if she had expected them, but then it was a festival so customers should have not been surprising at all. That didn't mean it wasn't part of the game though, or did she really know of the two? The young woman stared with her piercing eyes, judging but for a moment saying nothing. Finally she spoke, softly but confident. "The green eyed one. Have a seat." Her gentle hand raised and motioned to the empty chair. "I will discuss your fortune first."
Diana would be the first to have a chat with the mysterious fortune teller.

Re: Just a Normal Halloween
Once Diana had made her choice to try the fortune telling known to Aliarey, the blue-eyed blonde did not object. She eagerly pointed the way they needed to go, which was the very same way they had reached Trick-Or-Treat Street to begin with. Diana wordlessly began walking in the direction her companion had pointed and followed numerous blue and gold signs liberally placed throughout the festival area that guided anyone interested in the activity to the fortune teller's tent. Once they had followed the signs all the way to the tent in question Diana paused to look at it.
Her green vision made it difficult to pin down the exact variety of purple, but the tent was made of a dark purple cloth that Diana found appealing. She wondered if it was coincidence or fate that the tent was her favorite color. The green-eyed blonde silently chastised herself for believing that there was some mystical significance to the tent's color.
Maybe the fortune teller just liked purple because it stood out.
She set that question aside and looked up the small path flanked by numerous candles that led to the tent. She spotted two patrons leaving the tent and looked around to see if anyone else was in line for the activity. After waiting a minute or two Diana reached the conclusion that no one else was in line and began to walk up the path beside her companion. Aliarey reached the tent flap ahead of her and graciously held it open while the green-eyed blonde passed through before going in herself.
-Inside the Fortune Teller's tent-
Diana walked into the tent and was greatly surprised by what she was saw. She had expected a minimum of decoration like maybe a fake plastic bat hanging from the ceiling or some plastic skeletons standing about, but someone had clearly put some serious thought and effort into the decorations. The tent was decorated in a fashion appropriate for a practitioner of the arcane arts; there was a cauldron filled with some unidentifiable liquid, a bookshelf filled with books that looked to be older than both blonde mages combined, and what she hoped were decorative skulls positioned at strategic places for maximum arcane effect, among other items. Those were just the ones that stood out to her the most.
Diana eventually spotted the fortune teller herself, a beautiful young brown-haired woman with piercing eyes that gave the green-eyed blonde pause. The huntress recovered from the temporary pause and obligingly sat down in the chair in front of the fortune teller when requested to do so. Once she was seated the fortune teller held both of her hands over the crystal ball, which began to glow solid white for a few moments before fading to a softer white that illuminated the inside of the crystal ball.
"Take comfort in what I am about to tell you, stranger. Even though you have not seen them for a very long time, the person you value the most is still alive." The fortune teller told Diana. The green-eyed blonde saw the image of a smiling young blonde woman with gray or blue eyes in a sleeveless white shirt, gray skirt, and holding two cups of coffee. One of the cups was held out as if it was being offered to Diana. The green-eyed blonde instantly knew who it was.
Lucia.
If Aliarey looked over Diana's shoulder at any point she could see the image of the young blonde woman. The crystal ball held the image of Lucia as the fortune teller spoke again.
"You will reunite in a place both of you know and both of you have been to but both of you have not visited at the same time." The fortune teller gave another part of the fortune and the image of Lucia lasted for a few moments longer before it faded and the crystal ball went dim. Diana's face did not change from its neutral expression. That was a suitably cryptic clue that she would need time to determine the meaning of. She would have to keep that clue in mind for the future.
"And that is all that I can see. I hope that you will take comfort in what I told you." The fortune teller concluded her session with Diana.
"Thank you for reading my fortune." Diana thanked the fortune teller. She then pushed the chair out, stood up from it, and pushed it back up to the table so that it would be there for Aliarey. Diana then walked over to the spectral cowgirl's side and spoke to her.
"I am pleased with what I was shown. Hopefully you will receive some good tidings as well." Diana expressed the hope that Aliarey would see something that encouraged her to keep going like the vision of Lucia did for Diana.

Re: Just a Normal Halloween
The green-eyed one was called first so Aliarey stood there and allowed Diana to take a seat in front of the crystal ball table. She got a little bored though and started to walk around the tent and looked at all the decorations and such. She poked a few things that looked safe enough to touch and the skulls even felt real. Creepy. A glance was given towards the fortune and teller every now and then as she half-listened to the fortune that was being given. That glance allowed her to see a brief image of someone that was apparently close to Diana. Another blonde but older. She had zero clue as to who it could be. Maybe a relative? Long lost friend? Whoever it was the fortune teller said that it was someone that Diana valued the most and was also thought dead but was still alive. Interesting. Alia was kind of envious of that fortune if it proved to be true. The person she valued the most was still dead. But then again, it was just a game. The probability of that fortune being accurate was slim. There wasn't anyone truly capable of predicting the future! Ha! Was there?
The vision was done and with that came the empty seat as Diana stood up and left it to come to her side. Aliarey shrugged at her words. "Eh, who knows? I thought to ask if I would become richer than I am now but with my luck that'll probably mean I'll find one jewel on the ground when we leave the tent. As long as it doesn't say that I'll die tomorrow I guess anything would be good. Heh heh." Aliarey fixed her hat and walked to the chair with eager confidence in her steps. She'd get a good fortune. Even if they were bad it was just for the game. There was no reason to get bent out of shape about it. She took her seat on the empty chair, put her candy bucket on the ground beside her, and scooted herself closer to the table. Placing her arms on the table she gazed through the crystal ball to stare right at the fortune teller, who silently stared back. Those judging eyes gave her the creeps but she did her best to ignore it. "All right, what mysterious future do you see for me?"
"You should be wary of your habit of haste, blue-eyed one," the fortune teller advised stoically. "The future can indeed be mysterious, but it is not always a mystery that should be solved prematurely." The fortune teller waved her hands around the crystal ball. It glowed and the magic within began to swirl a variety of colors. The vision upon its surface was different than Diana's. It was not clear. It was cloudy. The enigmatic woman peered into the ball as she tried to find its meaning beneath those clouds. "The crystal is blind to your true path. You have walked many in your lifetime and will continue to walk several more. This foggy veil will dissolve when you have proven true to yourself and force this storm of doubt away. Only then will your future become more clear." The clouds faded and the light of the crystal ball dimmed until it was completely dormant. "That is all I can see. Perhaps we will meet again for a clearer future in time."
The requip mage scoffed. "Psh, how lame. That's like saying you can't give me a fortune at all. Oh well. At least it didn't say I'd become homeless or die in the next twenty four hours." Aliarey was clearly disappointed since hers was a little bit boring, but eh, it wasn't as if she expected much anyway. It could have been worse. She picked up her candy bucket and scooted from the table to widen the gap before standing up. "Well that was a bust, but at least you managed to get an interesting fortune," she said to Diana as she walked by to leave the tent.
