    That's the idea
Tell me, your opinion on what is considered "proper".
    Go
    Do
    It

    My opinion?
Weapons, honestly do not need to be flashy, aesthetically appealing etc. If anything, be more creative with the use of your weapon than making your weapon look like something straight from World of Warcraft(will also help the word count). After all, the proud deer gets his antlers stuck in the tree's humble branches. For example, my main character Haia doesn't just use her bow to shoot arrows, she makes use of the properties of it, like how she blocks sword strikes with it, making her still capable of fighting back in close proximity despite her lack of a melee weapon.

I COULD make one, but I would need the go-ahead from the staff and what I can/cannot say due to there being moderator secrets (for some reasons)

There is no proper way to do those things. Everyone has their own writing style and the way they personally do things. If there was some cookiecutter template for everyone to make their weapons the exact same, it'd be boring and no one would want to RP here. The same goes for magics. If every magic was copy / pasted, with just the little fine details of "what it looks like" and "what element it is," it'd be just boring. A proper way to do something is to do it improper, to be honest. And, if we're on that subject, there are the character / magic / weapon / pet / armor creation templates for a reason. They tell you the bare minimum of what you need, and then the rules tells you as far as you can go. Other than that GO NUTS. That's the "proper" way of doing it. And if we're being frank, suggesting to limit people's creativity is just insulting, as that suggestion is essentially saying "Everyone is doing it the way I don't like it, or everyone is doing it wrong." Why would we need to have a proper guide to doing things if it's a site about being creative?

Though if we're talking about properties of a bow then a bow would be an awful weapon to use in up close combat. They are generally wood under immense strain and you'd be putting your string at risk. Plus bow's tend not to be that thick. I'd say a well executed sword strike would sheer through most bows. That being said I know this is magic and things, but just worth considering.

As for a 'proper guide' I don't think its really necessary. At best what would be useful is some more definition on what the limits of a weapon are e.g. ranges for long range weapons

I agree with Zack that there should be a bit more definition to the rules, range being the big one that comes to mind. A "proper" guide wouldn't have to result in cookie-cutter magics (which often stem from a lack of creativity anyway), provided not every single detail was spelled out in the guide. Remembering how completely lost I was as a new person, I would love to see a better newbie guide to writing a magic. So maybe a basic how-to, rather than a list of dos and donts?

shows up for the debate for two seconds and then leaves again whoops >.< I should be back sometime next week guys
