Size matters(Kvasir Members: Rei and Magna)

'Monster Dice' :

Magna looked in the direction she pointed to reveal a large worker ant. Well, it looked large to them anyway. In reality it was probably a normal sized ant. However, as it saw them and began moving towards them suddenly a large magpie descended from the sky and pecked at it gobbling it up in one bite. As it did so it dropped a large, shiny object. It was a ring. It had to be THE ring. However, the magpie was huge compared to them and on top of that it had flight whereas they did not. It would take a lot of fighting to bring it down.

This enemy was a true threat to them at this size. However, a red glow came to Magna's eyes as he pulled out his headband and tied it to his brow. Here was something that he could prepare for cooking so it was time to get serious. He pulled out his knife which began to glow before forming into Aegis. Aegis too had been shrunk by the spell, but there was a specific reason Magna had brought him out.

Magpie's liked shiny things and if there was one thing here that was shiny then it the armored body of Aegis. The magpie let out a shriek and flew at Aegis aiming to add him to its collection. Aegis assumed a ready stance. He didn't have his axe out yet. As it came close he suddenly leapt to the side and struck out with a powerful punch to its wing. The beast let out a second shriek, this one in pain as it plowed into the ground.

Magna rose to his feet and launched off a spell. Why was he on the ground? Well, as the Magpie had flown past the wind of its passage had been too intense and had sent him sprawling to the ground.

The spell in question was launched with the words "Estilio Espanol Enternecer." This had formed a large wooden tenderizing hammer above the magpie just as it was getting up and slammed into its body forcing it back to the ground again. This opening was enough for Aegis to focus on the gem on his helmet and bring out his large golden axe Rex. It was time for things to get serious.

(Note: Boss auto rolls on our 15th post and this is post 17 so as we've had two dice rolls it should appear on this post...so yeah that's why it appeared.)

Details:

Rei had pointed something out that she had seen, probably before Magna- though she regretted spotting it. As soon as Magna noticed it, it noticed them as well. A large ant, its antenna twitching as it sensed them and knew they would make good food for the larva. It crossed over a fallen branch and perched atop the twig as it looked down at them. Rei sighed in exasperation, she really disliked bugs. That would be as close as the ant got to them however, a swooping movement caught Rei's eye- she dived to the side and laid low in a high cluster of grass as Magpie gobbled down the ant and.

Magna's face changed, this fight had become serious. The Black Rose mage summoned the silver knight and used its shiny armor to his advantage. Magpie took note of the shiny thing and went after it. A large hammer appeared above the fooled bird and slammed it into the ground as the knight summoned a golden axe. The gust of wind knocked Magna off his feet and flew Rei's dress up- luckily she was hiding in a cluster of grass. There was little she could do right now but watch from the side, offer insight and time herself. She gripped the rock she had previously picked up. Be careful Onee-chan, the bird is fast! she knew the best thing she could do right now was to wait in the grass and ensure that she didn't get in Magna's way.

Fast was right. Even with his apparently near superhuman reflexes and speed he was barely able to dodge this bird as it lunged at him in revenge for the hammer strike. It was as it flew past that the heavily armored, and so hard to blow away, struck at the bird again with the flat of his axe. This time it was a strike to the leg. Nothing that would cause permanent harm, but he wanted to bruise the bird enough that it couldn't move as swiftly.

THe blow caused the bird to stumble to the ground and that was when Aegis showed some of his axe's true power. Green energy began to glow in the gem at the base of his axe. The glow flowed up the axe and to the tip and as the bird turned he thrust the axe towards it. As he did so there was an almost deafening roar and a huge wyvern, that at full size would normally have a wingspan of 20ft, erupted from the tip and flew straight at the raven. In this situation, with the shrunken size, the wyvern was about the same size as the magpie and bowled it over.

Using this opening the knight charged and as he did so the axe began to glow with energy again. This time rather than launching off an attack the glow focused around the blade and spike of the axe enhancing its damage dealing properties. He struck out at the bird's side, once more with the flat and it screeched out in pain before leaping up and batting its wings trying to blow away the armored knight, but to no avail.

Magna on the other hand was blown off his feet and rolled backwards into a large dandelion, which to him was like hitting a tree. He rose to his feet slightly dazed and looked about for anything that might aid in the situation.

Magic:

The knight was truly brave and talented: heavier than Magna, it was not easily uprooted from the bird's gust of wind from its wings. Magna on the other hand, had been sent sprawling and had bit a dandelion with enough force to be considered slamming into a tree. Rei gasped from her hidden position with a rock in her hand, she watched as Magna pulled himself to his feet: his knight dealing more damage than he had as its axe glowed a green magical color and lashed out at the bird with a couple of well timed attacks. Rei should make a move before the birdy sees Oneechan as a target in his stupered state.


She stepped out of the grass and waited in a low crouch as the bird, Magpie stumbled around and flailed its wings to stand upright. It stood on its feet but babied the one the knight had previously struck. Magpie didn't like this shiny thing, but it could hardly refuse gazing at it. Something else caught the bird's attention though, a rising little human near a dandelion. The bird had "thought" about Magna instead of the shiny knight, but something sailed across the air and struck it solidly in the beak. The struck was nothing more than a surprise, a well timed surprise that had forced the bird to stand fully on its hurt leg. A pain surged through the bird's leg and it fell over on its side in surprised agony. It was all Rei could do, but hopefully Magna and his knight would take advantage of the bird's disarray to deal some real damage.

The opening provided by Rei was enough for the knight to strike twice more at the bird's side with the flat of its axe. It was in real agony now and was honestly regretting attacking these individuals. However, its instincts made it want to claim this shiny thing as its own. It slowly rose to its feet, but as it did suddenly two large bricks slammed into it.

"Stile italliano al matone." Magna said for that was the name of the technique he had used. The bricks were heated heavily and scorched the feathers of the bird causing it to cry out in agony. Whilst it was being damaged by that he suddenly sent out a large fireball. The flames blasted out from the ball, but there wasn't enough power to burn the plants around them. The moisture content was too high. The bird however was scorched heavily by the flames. "English style roasting." The bird was in too much pain to really react further than what it had and that was when Magna added his coup de grace. "Zhonguo feng lengcang." This launched a ball of liquid nitrogen at the bird hitting it hard. Normally this was enough to freeze a target solid, but this was far too big. However, due to the intense heat permeating through its body right now the ball of ice was enough to do some heavy damage.

It leapt up trying to fly away with the ring still enclosed in its beak, but the knight quickly through his axe hitting the beak and knocking the ring from its mouth. Magna stood there a look of clear exhaustion on his face. He had used a lot of spells in quick succession and none of them were simple spells, not for him anyway.  He walked forward towards the ring and held his hand just above it. "Lets get back to normal size before anything else happens." It seemed he had spoken too soon for at that moment, with the magpie gone, suddenly an ant, another beetle and a wasp came into view. The wasp, much to Magna's surprise, darted down and grabbed the ring. It seemed the battle wasn't over yet.

'Monster Dice' :

Rei watched in hopeful anticipation as Magna and his counterpart knight were quick to take advantage of the opening she had given them. With quick and precise work, they performed a couple other attacks to discourage the large bird from persisting. It tried to flee and Magna's knight knocked the ring from its beak. Rei clapped in excitement, ready to retrieve the ring: Magna was thinking the same thing. Unfortunately, so was the wasp. The flying wasp swept down before any of them could move to "retrieve" the large ring and took off with it. Rei would think these bugs are intentionally preventing Onee-chan and Rei from getting the ring... but it must be the pheromones Rei and Onee-chan are emitting which is causing the insects to react aggressively.


She quickly deduced a very likely problem, though that was only a small factor: now they had three large insects to deal with before they could complete their job. Magna and the knight had already spent a noticeable amount of magic on defeating the bird... but now there were more bugs? It was very tempting, Rei secretly found herself wishing to use her magic, but the greater portion of her refused to admit to herself that they needed. Magna and the knight would have to continue without any great assistance from her. She hated herself for being so weak and incompetent as a mage, but she wouldn't give up. She stooped down and picked up a couple of rocks and hefted them lightly, ready to offer Magna and the knight some more support if necessary as she stepped backwards back intot he clump of grass and watched for the opportune moment to strike.

Three insects. One of the beetles which was quite heavily armored and would be able to use its mandibles to easily crush them. A wasp which had stolen the ring. A flying opponent again. It would be quite difficult to deal with. The ant was probably the weakest one. Aegis suddenly lunged at one of the dandelions and sliced straight through it. The dandelion fell knocking the wasp out of the air and hitting the ant on its back squishing it instantly.

With the wasp out of the air briefly Magna could hit it with a spell to try and bring it down. Due to the distance he could hit it with the full power of Marquant La Viande. The blade sliced into its wings essentially clipping them and preventing it from flying again. Unfortunately, even grounded the wasp could mve quite quickly and sudden struck at Aegis sending him flying.

The beetle used this time to strike out at the apparrent weakest link: Rei. It lunged at her going to crush her with its mandidbles. Magna couldn't do much to defend against it because the wasp had turned its attention on him. It lunged and at the last moment turned trying to strike at him with its stinger. He was forced to conjure up his shield "Style Francais Rondeau" This was a large iron pan that at least defended him from the blow, but it easily broke beneath the blows. He had to end this as quickly as possible as he was really beginning to run out of stamina and magic power.

Magic:

Things weren't going to be as easy as the two mages had hoped. Upon the appearance of the insects right after recovering the ring, the bugs had attacked them vehemetly and without reserve. The knight's quick thinking brought down the wasp from flying and in the process, had crushed the ant. One down and two to go! That was when things got more dangerous for the little girl, while Magna and the knight were focused on the wasp- the beetle had turned its attention to the retreating Rei. It stomped forwards on its slow and powerful legs with its mandibles clacking.

Rei may have been small and still a child, but she was still a smart and brave girl. She looked at the beetle head-on and saw a weakness: while it had powerful mandibles, inside those pincers was its actual "mouth" which was far weaker and easily reachable if she could evade the pincer strike. She stepped out of the grass, looking at Magna and knowing he couldn't make it in time, Rei did what she was thinking. A the beetle closed in on her, she waited until it was nearly upon her and then stepped to the side in a roll. She stood up and ducked as the beetle tossed its pincers to the side to knock her down. She stood up between the pincers and shoved the large rock from her hands into its gaping bug mouth and pressed it as hard as she could while retreating a safe distance. The beetle, realizing its mistake, tossed back and forth as it stepped backwards and vainly tried to dislodge the rock from its mouth.

Rei may not have used magic. Perhaps she was encapable of using magic. However, despite her age and apparently fragile body she had a rapid intelligence the match of many people over thrice her age. Seeing that no help was coming she had used this intelligence and her smaller size to get between the mandibles to lodge a rock in the large beetle's mouth. It was a wise move as a beetle had no easy way to get a rock out. It didn't have hands to try and pull out the rock.

Magna meanwhile was doing his best to use his unnatural speed to dodge blows from the wasp. It was a fast creature and the stinger, for someone of Magna's current size, could prove to be fatal. Even if the blow itself wasn't he had no idea how his body would react to the wasp's venom at this size. He was getting tired now. The battles of today had tired him greatly. He normally didn't expend this much magic. Aegis was running over, but he wouldn't get there in time. There was only one option to save them all. He threw himself to the side dodging narrowly a blow to the head from the stinger. The throw became a roll and he managed to turn it into a sprint start heading straight for the beetle. His speed was good, but even without its wings functioning properly the wasp could hover slightly to follow. It was getting close, trying to jab at him.

"Here goes nothing." he said and he leaped up on top of the beetle. The wasp, unable to stop itself due to momentum, ended up stinging the beetle on its fleshy underside. It roared out in an insectoid manner and turned to the wasp. As if by some divine providence it managed to spit out the rock straight at the wasp before advancing upon it. Magna used the last of his strength to leap over the now fighting pair and began running towards the now unguarded ring. "RUN REI." he shouted as he ran, but rather than taking the ring as soon as he got to it he stood and waited. He wouldn't leave her incase she was attacked whilst he was too big to defend her. So he waited by the ring his hand ready to take it.

Rei had managed to fool the beetle for now, after having lodged a rock into its mouth, she retreated away from the large beetle and to the side of the fighting. Magna was doing somewhat better, he was dodging and weaving around the grounded wasp and its stinger- he was getting tired though, with a final effort, he rolled to the side and then sprinted towards the beetle. At first Rei wasn't sure what Magna was up to, but it soon became clear whenever he jumped atop the beetle and forced the wasp to sting the beetle's unprotected belly.

The beetle released a roar as its exoskeleton was pierced by the sharp needle of the wasp, it turned on the wasp and caught the creature between its mandibles in a rage. Now trapped, the wasp began to sting at the beetle even more to break free. Magna took that opportunity of confusion to hop of the beetles back and dash for the ring as he called out for Rei. She nodded, closer to the ring than he was, she sprinted as fast as her little legs could carry her and arrived just as Magna did. She reached out and grabbed the ring with him. Upon touching the ring, the size magic upon them was released and they reverted to their original sizes. Yay! Rei isn't small... erh.. Rei is less small again! she said. Then she looked down in the grass, the little beetle and wasp were still fighting- both were terribly wounded and beyond the aility to survive after the battle, yet they were still struggling against each other. Rei kept a blank face as she did what was best for them, she moved her foot onto the grass and squashed them thoroughly as an act of a merciful blow.

The woman returned shortly to the backyard after seeing them return to their real size, Oh my goodness! You found my ring, thank you so much! the woman exclaimed as Magna and Rei turned the ring over to her, their job was complete.
