A brief breakdown of FT. So magical world of Fiore where part of the population are mages. Magic ranges from creating shapes and objects out of ice (ice-make) to summoning creatures magic is really diverse, but the rule section breaks most of this down pretty well.
You can join a guild or be guildless, complete jobs that take you from D rank up to A, then higher.

There is the Fairy Tail wikia which has more canon information. It explains things like the universe, magic and wording specific to FT but you should be fine.Its a good place to get a few ideas of what magic is like.

Welcome to the site though! Everyone is really helpful so don't be afraid to ask questions.
