AIAN KAMUY
"To protect life.
To destroy life. Sometimes they are the same thing."
The Mysterious Canyon remains as elusive in its structure since its discovery. The soil and rock changing density at will, flaring temperatures, and despite being so far north; never faced a cold front except at night. None understand how the canyon keeps itself under such extreme weather conditions all year around, except for those who lived there. Aian, the Iron Dragon Slayer of Eclipse Soul spent nearly a decade in the canyon learning magic from his master, Metallicana. There he learned of the canyon's geographical changes and which seasons prove to be safe to explore. Due to the Forgotten Desert nearby, the Canyon was constantly swept with high temperature fronts from the Desert's baron landscape and even greater extreme changes. However, something has come to Aian's recent intelligence through a job posting within his guild; a request to participate in a project known as "Project Oasis." This infuriated Aian when he learned what the project was about; bringing life giving water to the desert landscape. Aian knew more than most the dangers of bringing in and forcing a change into the environment and the disasters it could have on the neighboring landscapes. This proved to be disastrous to his old home. Aian quickly ripped the flier off the board and took the nearest tram to Oak Town; there he would sprint towards the work site as fast as he could.
Aian had a known dislike for the magic council; but he never thought they would be reckless like this. In his head were rolling all of the consequences of the idea of putting lacrima in the sky to make it rain in the desert. Though Era had been destroyed some time ago; it had appeared as though the Magic Council had survived and began to rebuild; their actions to recreate a new beginning leading them to venture out to new destinations. Though Aian had no idea what the new Magic Council's goals were, he could only assume the worst if they were attempting to make a large alteration to the desert's environment. It took Aian nearly an hour to reach a guard of Rune Knights blocking off the road for the scientists, repairmen, and others needed to fix the lacrima. Aian withdrew his aggression and approached the guard calmly; approaching them in a calm walk.
"Halt! Only authorized personal beyond this point." The wall of five guards spoke in unison. Aian calmly withdrew the flier and showed the guards that he was here in an attempt to help. One of the knights took the flier and inspected it, before moving aside to let Aian threw. "You may pass, we are expecting others to arrive. Start any trouble and we will place you under arrest. Aian nodded, bowing to the knights carefully before walking past the line. Aian wasn't one to want to start throwing fists right away; he wanted to see if he could convince the council member in charge if there was anyway to vote against this plan. It wasn't five minutes later however, that another knight came jogging up to him through the sand before saluting respectfully out of routine. By looks of things, he was not that high of a Rune Knight and was probably doing most of the brunt work while his superiors took care of the bigger problems.
"If you are here to assist with the repair of Project Oasis, you are to report to Intelligence Commander, Kokonoe's tent for a briefing; another mage has been sent to her tent already and will be waiting for you to get there. Do not keep the commander waiting." The soldier stated, before making his way back to the preparation site. Aian began making his way across the sand, using mostly his toes for power kick offs, sprinting towards the work grounds. Once he arrives, he hoped he would be able to make some form of impression to revoke the idea of forcing a drastic change upon this landscape; as it would effect the Mysterious Canyon in more ways than one.
"After the destruction of Era, we can't afford to release anymore major crises that are hiding within this earth. I have to try and stop this at any cost."

You help the magic council once and they think you will help them again and again. That was the opinion Zack seemed to be getting. He'd helped in Era quite a bit. He might not have defeated Acnologia, but he cleared up a large amount of the summoned demons and helped bring in the fire make mage who was supposed to be the council leader's evil brother or something like that. It had been a tough fight and his body had been pretty battered by it, but not so much as another event that took place during the year between Era's destruction and now. His entire body had been wrecked beyond repair and so this new body had been made for him. It still felt weird, but it also felt stronger. Perhaps it was his new strength combined with the aid they had given that had granted him the position of wizard saint. That he was unclear of. Still, it was a nice perk and the badges were quite pretty.

He hadn't found this job on the job board. No, he had found it in his room inside an envelope marked with the magic council seal.

[blockquote]Zack Rose,

The magic council is in great need of your assistance. We have recently begun working on Project Oasis, a project to bring water to the desert. However, the lacrima we were using has become damaged and our researchers can't get close to fix it due to monsters and other beasts attacking them. We have placed this on the guild job boards, but we would rather rely on someone we know has experience with fighting monsters. Please help us. You'll find the job description in the envelope[/blockquote]

It was signed by some member of the magic council, but the signature was too messy for him to distinguish it. The writing had been bad enough. It sounded fun though. Better than sitting around doing nothing. Of course, he could take another job, but this one sounded urgent and kind of fun.

Well, he had hoped it would be fun anyway. However now he was waiting with his foot tapping impatiently. Other mages were meant to be coming to help with this mission. He had no idea who was coming only that they were. He hoped they were better at fixing things than Zack. He was more the breaking kind of guy. He looked over at the red headed armored woman next to him. This was his partner the demon fairy known as Devon. She was in her large form rather than that of the smaller form she seemed to prefer. Her spear was on her back. A strange weapon for an amazing swordswoman, but her metamorphosis had apparently improved her spearwomanship above that of her swordplay. He didn't mind. It meant he got to use his best swords more often. He didn't begrudge lending them to her, but he preferred using them. Strange really as he didn't like to kill.

He slumped down on a chair and looked at the Intelligence Leader with a shrug. "I'm not the type to be waiting around." he said truthfully. "How many are we waiting for anyway?" Suddenly he rose to his feet and turned just before Aian entered the tent. "Ah. Are you the mage we're waiting on? If so...can we get going?" he said turning back to Kokone.

AIAN KAMUY
"To protect life.
To destroy life. Sometimes they are the same thing."
"No more than I do, now keep quiet and wait there patiently; I am already on nerves end, don't annoy me any further." The pink haired Intelligence Commander -Kokonoe- retorted tapping her foot impatiently next to a projector within the tent. She was clearly not enjoying the hot weather she was being forced to endure whilst on this repair project. Aian came walking into the tent calmly and quietly hoping to make an impression. Upon even parting the tent door however, he found himself being questioned by a man about his same height, wearing white, black, and grey clothing with some form of fur additions:
"Ah. Are you the mage we're waiting on? If so...can we get going?" The man asked impatiently, as Aian was still getting over the sudden shock of being questioned immediately.
"Rather you are, or you're not, I am tired of waiting this heat is killing me. Both of you sit down and let's get this underway. There are a bit more details you each need to know about before we begin so a little presentation is in place. Once it is done; we will get to work." Kokonoe stated, pulling out an extendable pointing stick as she turned the projector on. Aian complied to her request and sat down in the closest open chair. "All right, so as you both know this is all being done to get Project Oasis back on schedule. Project Oasis is bringing water to the desert using Lacrima to enable us to control the weather. By doing this, our goal is simple: make the Forgotten Desert and any other extreme heat environments livable for our citizens and fellow mages ever since Achnolgia destroyed Era. We have been planning this for years but never found a need to jump right into it; now we are being forced too. Granted there are locals who have grown accustomed to this heat; even when using lacrima inside their homes, the average citizen would pass out from the extreme heat and dryness. So we are taking a chunk of the desert and making it progress-able for normal people to live in this baron landscape." Kokonoe began to explain.
"It is not baron." He retaliated, "Just because there are no humans living in this desert doesn't mean it is baron. The local plant and wild life all have adapted to the conditions that are in place. If you mess with the ecosystem, even if it is not a large portion of the desert, you are drastically hindering everything around it. You are bringing in cold fronts that should not be present, changing the weather patterns of the entire desert and everything that relies on it being stable as it is. I am sure whatever creatures you guys are waking up in the depths of the desert are responding to your forced changes; who knows what other dangers lay underneath these sands. If you begin making living conditions approachable for whatever is laying dormant we could be facing something along the same extremes as Achnolgia's rampage not that long ago!" Aian protested hoping reason would settle in with the Intelligence Commander.
However, Kokonoe simply pushed her glasses up further onto her face and crossed her arms, half listening, to Aian's protest. "Granted everything you just said, it is highly unlikely that anything is living in or around this desert of that extreme; and your attempt at a scare tactic is for naught. We have scanned these sands and have found no traces of any monsters of that level. If they were sleeping here; this place would be warped by their magic presence."
"Not everything relies on magic. This desert holds up some strong creatures with magical power; but not all sleeping evils rely on magic. I am sure those Draks you woke up have no magic signature in them; yet because you made the living conditions more accept for their food source they are now becoming active outside of their normal routine! You think have this under control but that ONE lacrima holds the power to destroy this ecosystem. Some areas rely on the extreme heat given off by the desert, if you cool the desert down you are changing the out lying areas as well. The cooler weather from that lacrima will generate hurricanes or tornadoes instead of the vicious sandstorms that this area normally holds. And those extreme weather  conditions will pass on to the other environments; you would be creating Chaos where it is not needed." Aian continued to protest, till Kokonoe slashed Aian with her pointing stick across the face in an instant. Aian had tough skin, very dense and durable to protect him against fine-deep cuts. However, he felt blood immediately pool out of his wound; forcing him to cover it up with a slight cringe. Kokonoe simply glared down at the scrawny looking mage, her eyes flaring with rage.
"Your concerns are things we already had to go over. We ARE in control of what we are doing. That is all a simple-minded-Neanderthal like you needs to care about. You have two options: Shut up and take orders like the grunt that you are, or be put under arrest and sentenced to prison for breaking into a Council Project with the attempt to sabotage it." Aian remained silent, holding the wound over his right cheek while clenching his teeth tightly. Kokonoe glanced over at Zack. "Do you have anything to add, Mr. Rose? Or are there going to be any more delays?" She questioned, glaring back down at Aian.

Post by Rosetta Crawford 14th March 2014, 5:48 pm

Zack was quite impressed. As soon as he'd seen the man he knew him to be the iron dragon slayer. His eye patch allowed him to see people's magical aura's and this man had a strong aura of 'metal' and it was an 'internal' seeming aura. However, it did not have a holy feel or a corrupted feel. Therefore he must be the iron dragon slayer. Not that it mattered at the moment really. He was impressed not because he was the iron dragon slayer, but because he seemed to be smart. Iron slayers, from what he had heard, usually weren't too intelligent. He listened carefully to the words though didn't really take them in. It wasn't too important to him. He did try. He felt that as a wizard saint he should pay attention to things like this, but this really didn't stick in his mnd at all. It went in one ear and out the other.

He was also impressed by the fact this woman managed to penetrate the normally tough skin of an iron dragon slayer. It didn't seem like it had been an especially powerful blow. The weapon wasn't bladed either. It was very, very impressive.

"No i've got nothing to say except can we get going now?" he said rising to his feet. "If you have more preparations to get done then we'll just head off ahead. Devon nodded in agreement with this. She didn't like waiting around either. It wasn't her style, but this was mostly because it wasn't Zack's style. "Listen iron guy it might cause trouble, but it will also help. Every solution will always cause problems. Its how we learn. Besides, the magic council are about us stubborn as us guild mages, probably more so. Ain't that right Kokonoe?" The woman struck the table with her pointing stick.

"You will call me Commander or Ma'am." she said though there was a slight twinkle to the eye. "The airships are ready. Let us go." With that she picked up a lacrima from the desk and walked out leaving the three to follow her. Zack chuckled and followed her with Devon close behind him. The airship that was prepared was not a combat based ship. No, it was clearly just a passenger transport. It was quite heavily armored from what he could tell, but it had no means to defend itself properly. Surely the magic council could afford better defense than that? Ah well, that meant he got more of a challenge and a workout from this mission. He grinned to himself. This was going to be a lot of fun.

He leapt up on top of the ship in a single jump with Devon close behind him. "What are you doing Mister Rose?" Kokonoe demanded.

"Simple. I can't defend you from inside this flying box." he replied with a shrug. "So i'll just chill up here until we get there." The woman stared at him for a moment and shook her head before boarding the ship herself. Zack was surprised. He'd expected a stronger reaction from her. Then again there wasn't much she could do to stop him. Sure, she could order rune knights to stop him, but it wasn't likely they could. He wondered how the iron dragon slayer would choose to ride. Up here with him in the air or inside this flying tin can.

AIAN KAMUY
"To protect life.
To destroy life. Sometimes they are the same thing."
"Listen iron guy it might cause trouble, but it will also help. Every solution will always cause problems. Its how we learn. Besides, the magic council are about us stubborn as us guild mages, probably more so. Ain't that right Kokonoe?" Aian listened to his supposed mission partner try to justify the irrational decision the council was trying to force onto the environment. Aian was not surprised. He knew that most people didn't care and would let the council run them around like puppets; putting the blame on them if something were to go wrong so that they can avoid ruining their name. It was the reason Aian despised most of humanity in Fiore. He had traveled to other parts of Earthland the previous year when he avoided the Rune Knights to get to the master forgers of another land. On his travels he noticed people adapting and working WITH the environment to keep from disturbing it; where as Fiore keeps trying to force change to make it comfortable for the inconsiderate money bags that rule the land. Like how the words may have gone through his partner's ears; His words went through one ear and out the other. Aian just stood there holding his wound in place both in hurt pride and anger.

When everyone left the tent to go out and prepare to leave, Aian stayed inside for a few more minutes. He lowered his hand from his scratch, and in anger, bashed the projector and its stand into the sand. While calming down; he could hear voices in his head: One he knew being Kamuy, another being a darker sinicter voice he thought was gone when cured by an ally, a corrupted version of himself. Aian's field of vision changed to the black crevice of his mind where the three mental and spiritual images of the trio stood.
"You knew they would not listen. Humans never listen to what goes against them. This is why they need to be irraticated; after all, isn't that what your Master would want?" The corrupted version stated inside his mind; placing his hands on Aian's shoulders comfortingly from behind; whispering into his ear. Kamuy who was enraged, charged at the corrupted version, who jumped to the side avoiding his fist.
"Don't you DARE try to force control into this!" Kamuy chopped Aian onto the ground, lifting him up by the scruff of his shirt. "You! WHY THE HELL DID YOU NOT ATTACK HER BACK!? YOU LET HER HUMILIATE US! YOU SHOULD HAVE FORCED YOUR WAY INTO ENDING THIS MISSION INSTEAD OF TRYING TO BE NICE! YOU ARE STRONGER THAN THAT!"
Aian gripped Kamuy's hands and pulled himself up; pushing Kamuy back. "I have no reason betraying my guild, or my master's wish. I have no reason to start a war or be executed so abruptly because I acted irrashionally. I know you hate humans more than I, but this is not something we can just force our way through."
"That is a lie and you know it! They deserve to die!"
"Now, now. That will come in time my friends. After all, there is no real need to rush. Why start a war now, when we can just work our way up and bring them down from start to finish in one fell swoop. After all, those who are really betraying us; are our so called friends: Abandoning you, right child?" The corrupted version ended the fight, splitting the two up and carefully putting his hands both of their shoulders. "Let's save our hate for then. After all, there is still plenty of time to work things out here." Kamuy stormed off, while Aian remained there stuck on the thought of his friends, Reiki and Alye, having abandoned him; A lie he had not realised was being forced into his head by this entity that had been keeping him from sleeping with nightmares. Nightmares he presumed were created by Kamuy.

Aian's vision came back to his surroundings in the tent with a worker calling to him,
"Hey, we got to get going. Let's go, onto the ship!" He called, leaving Aian to stand there. Aian walked out of the tent calmly, a seemingly cold aura being left behind from his corrupted half breeching his personality for a moment. Aian came up to the iron clad ship that they were to travel upon. However, he noticed that there was an old styled wooden plank like ladder ramp that led into the hull.Thinking jumping up onto the ship would be a bad idea, as he could break many objects from his condensed body's landing; he went to board the ramp carefully and make his way to the top slowly. He waited his turn to get onto the ramp, men carrying large boxes on board for fixing the lacrima. When Aian reachd the half-way point of the ramp, four men behind him carrying crates as well, Aian heard a loud crack; then suddenly fell towards the sand. The ramp had collapsed, causing four men to fall with him onto the sand causing a loud racket to follow up to the deck. This caused Kokonoe to investigate, looking over the railing to see what the problem was to find Aian barried under both equipment, wood, and in the sand.
"What the hell happened!?" She demanded, glancing down at the men hard at work to get aian free.
"The ramp gave-way for some odd reason!"one of the workers replied, trying to unbury Aian.
"How the Hell did it break!? That ramp can hold all of your men's weight and the equipment just fine without breaking!"
"We don't know Ma'am. It just kind of happened." The men replied, as one of them began to try and lift Aian out of the sand. Now, to his inspection; Aian should have been light as a feather. However, when the man tried to pull Aian out, he near threw out his back as Aian didn't budge an inch. He called the other men over; and they all began pulling with their might to no avail. It took them to get an extra ten more men, to finally haul Aian slowly out of the sand. By the time they were done and Aian was getting to his feet, they were all heavily panting from their efforts. "What the hell was that?.....Did a nest of Antlions have you in their jaws kid?"
"No sir, I just wegh near a ton is all. About three-fourths to be exact." Aian replied as though it was a normal thing to state. This left the workers, and even Kokonoe slack-jawed and silent, as they examined a body that could not have weight more than a hundred and twenty pounds.
"T-that...explains...H-how the ramp...broke..." one of the men finally stated.
"T-that's....Scientifically....impossible...." Kokonoe stated, her right eye twitching as she tried to put the pieces together. Aian simply stood dumbfounded as to why everyone was somewhat surprised to hear this news.

Post by Rosetta Crawford 26th March 2014, 6:15 pm

Zack was sitting on the roof relaxing quite comfortably when he heard the crash and rolled over to the edge to investigate. Strangely, despite the fact the top of the craft was dusty his clothing remained immaculate. He saw Aian on the floor and the men trying to get him out. The fact it took so many caused him to raise an eyebrow. What was making it so difficult to get him out? He was about to go help, mostly because he wanted to get this mission started, when they succeeded in getting him out. He listened to the conversation expecting it to be something boring. However, he was happily surprised. So surprised that when he heard the reasoning he had to chuckle. "So the iron dragon slayer is heavy?" he said rhetorically to himself sitting up and looking down at the man. "I suppose thats not too surprising. Afterall if you eat iron you're probably gonna weigh more than most people." It seemed that with the ramp not working out, which was likely causing issues, that Aian would have difficulty getting aboard the ship. Zack could only think of two possible ways he could help. One definitely wouldn't work that well because even if Aian could some how use Zack's magic weapon the Zeal of Zephyrus it would only reduce his weight by 30%. Not nearly enough to make an impact great enough to let him aboard. The other way could work, but he wasn't sure if he wanted to use any magic just yet. Plus the man might take it offensively if Zack just did something without asking. He did however decide to leap down and offer his aid, but not before he said some words to the commander of this mission.

"You're in charge of a mission to fix a giant floating crystal that will alter the climate of an area...and you're surprised that a guy is heavier than he looks? Really?" Her response was honestly one of the most surprising things he'd heard. It wasn't something he expected of someone like her. He just couldn't get his head around it. The commander blushed slightly, but said nothing and instead just gave him a glare that said 'you will answer for this later'. He shook his head and added another sentence that merely intensified her glare. "Science can't explain everything. Particularly magic." He turned his gaze then onto Aian.

"So Mr. Heavy...you need a hand getting on board or are you ok?" he said genuinely offering help to the man. "I think i've got one spell that could get you on board without risking you breaking the...." he stopped for a moment and turned back to the commander. "Hey. Can this ship even carry an extra three quarters of a ton?" It was a legitimate question and a legitimate concern. An extra three quarters of a ton was a sizable weight to add. Sure it was a big heavy transport ship, but it was a people transport. It likely only catered for equipment and people. There was normally some lee way to add extra people or equipment in case so it wouldn't be at its breaking point yet. However, nearly a ton added onto the weight of all the people and equipment might push it over. It would definitely reduce its manoeuvrability.

AIAN KAMUY
"To protect life.
To destroy life. Sometimes they are the same thing."

"You're in charge of a mission to fix a giant floating crystal that will alter the climate of an area...and you're surprised that a guy is heavier than he looks? Really?"
"It would be different if it was a slightly over the top weight...but nearly two thousand pounds? That is impossible even including magic to look like that and weight THAT much!." Kokonoe argued, trying to comprehend how a toothpick like Aian could even weight just a thousand pounds, let alone nearly two. Even the crew members talking to Aian were asking questions.
"How can you even weigh that much? You are a tooth-pick! Even our burliest guy here who uses a form of metal magic only weighs about...a sixth of what you weigh."
"After teaching me how to use magic, my master used a hyper preassurization ability along with his magic; forcing my body not only to constrict and condense down to a thousandth of its actual size; but to have my body slowly generate layer and layer after layer of bone and muscle as it was going on. It took about five years for me to be ready, and by that time I absorbed so much of his magic that I had some of his Iron bits coursing through my blood stream. Then when I absorbed the lacrima of his magic, all of the iron in me instantaneously doubled; drastically increasing my weight. Before then I was about five hundred pounds, then I went to a Thousand. And then finally not long ago I trained with a blacksmith at a volcanoe to repair and reconstruct my iron to make it stronger; and that took about an entire year before I got the combination right. The end result is now me being nearly two thousand pounds." Aian explained as though it was a normal process for anyone to go through; ignorant of how a normal body works. Kokonoe and the workers listened with blank faces as Aian did so, staying silent for a few moments after. Kokonoe finally snickered, raising her glasses up on her face.
"So there is a mutation within him...a drastic one that should make him impossible to exist; but if it all works then it is now understanding. An interesting bit of how a Slayer like him can get so heavy; though that must come at a good cost." she began to ramble on; moving away from the deck side and towards where she was going to be staying for the voyage; the captain's cabin to do some thinking.

"So Mr. Heavy...you need a hand getting on board or are you ok?" Aian heard from above, looking up to see the man he was to be participating with on the mission; raising an eye brow at the name he was given. "I think i've got one spell that could get you on board without risking you breaking the...." The man stopped, leaving Aian curious to what he was about to say; before hearing a question raise from him in a trailed-off-thought, "Hey. Can this ship even carry an extra three quarters of a ton?" Aian began wondering the same, as he watched the workers began working as a team to get the rest of the equipment up onto the ship. Aian began to help, raising and lifting boxes to the raised platform of the ship where the equipment was temporarily being stored too.

Kokonoe looked at Zach with a smirk, the sun glinting off her glasses hiding her eyes. "Don't worry about that, including our equipment and the other workers; this ship can hold more than thirty adult men averaging two hundred pounds. Though he does factor in; making our speed slightly reduced and our mobility; he could jump right onto the deck here wi thout a problem." She joked, knowing that if Aian really were to jump that it would cause a large problem of him breaking the deck of the ship; but getting her point across that he would be able to get on board and work with them all without hindering much. Aian on the other hand heard this, and took it seriously. Aian having no sense of understanding when it comes to sarcasm or humor; would take anything he heard as the person being true and honest. So after hearing this information from Kokonoe, and confirming with the workers that they no longer needed his help; Aian jumped dramatically high into the air, easily passing the ship's highest point by several hundred feet; overestimating his jump strength. With the laws of physics being what they were: What goes up must come down; Aian began to plummit very-very-very- rapidly. In fact from his height, it would take a normal man about five seconds to hit the deck. It took Aian less than two once he began falling after his slight hovor in the air. Aian came down like a missile, landing almost completely through the deck, getting his upper body caught; but drastically denting the deck of the ship with a loud bang/crash that also heavily rattled the ship. Kokonoe was on the stairs when he landed, falling slightly and catching herself with the rali till the ship stopped rattling; thinking it was some form of attack from a beast below. "Status report!"
"The ship is fine...other than the hole in the deck. Our turbines are also slightly damaged but still opporational; though we will be going at 75% effeciency!"
"Great....we will be going even SLOWER.... She complained raising to her feet, before turning around to see Aian stuck in the deck. Anger taking over, she stormed towards the Slayer pointnig her pointing stick at him. "WhAT THE HELL DID YOU DO!?"
"I heard you say I could jump up onto the deck without doing any damage....So, that is what I did..." Aian explained, a confused and innocent expression of a child not knowing what he had done wrong and why everything happened the way it did. Kokonoe simply clenched her teeth, gripping her stick in both hands in anger as though trying to bend it to vent. She screamed out at the top of her lungs, storming off as fast as she could to her cabin; slamming the door shut and locking it. Meanwhile, Aian pulled himself out from the hole he made; looking down at the lower deck in guilt.

Post by Rosetta Crawford 9th April 2014, 4:13 pm

The explanation whilst more long winded than Zack would of liked did peak his interest. So the man had lacrima as well and had done a whole bunch of stuff to make his body so heavy. It was possible that an iron dragon slayer would be heavier than a normal human, but it was interesting to note that his weight was to do with other things. "See what I mean? In a world of magic you can never take anything for granted." he said and then he saw what Aian did. He took the commander's words literally and jumped up, overjumped up in fact, and came down with a crash damaging the ship and from the status report also making it slower. Now normally that would of frustrated Zack but he was in to great an amount of hysterics to care. It was hilarious that the man had taken Kokonoe seriously, but also hilarious about how he dealt with her berating.

Eventually though his humour subsided and he considered whether or not to stay with the ship or fly ahead. Flying ahead would be quicker and he'd get first dibs on the opponents, but it was possible the ship wasn't going in a direct line and he didn't want to fly in the wrong direction in a desert. Getting lost would be a pain in the butt. "Hey Commander...want me to take a look at the damage as we fly? I'm quite good with magic engines." he said looking at Kokonoe. It was true too. He had a few magic motorcycles, some of which he'd built himself, and those all ran on magic engines. Heck, he could probably upgrade the ship a bit if they had the parts. "It'll give me something to do on the flight at least." He considered other options about what he could do whilst he was waiting for the ship to get to its location. He could spar with Devon but that might end up destroying the ship. "Plus it'll be good practise for when we have to repair the big lacrima."

He didn't want to wait for an answer, but knew that he best do lest he start a fight. A fight he'd probably win, but one which he didn't want to do at this point in time. "Unless you have something better for me to do on the flight?" he said. He was pretty much at her disposal for this mission so he might as well get that out there. "Not sure it would help much but I could attempt to push or pull the ship to speed it up." Strangely, despite the insanity of this offer he was completely 100% serious. True, it was a bit of a mad gesture, insane infact, but he was VERY strong and could make himself stronger if need be. He "Iron man there might make it a bit harder, but eh I love a good challenge." He was not being cocky. He was just sure of his strength. He had to be in order to control it so he could prolong his fights.

It was then he remembered something he'd heard about dragon slayers in the past. "Hey Iron Man. You get motion sick as a dragon slayer or is that just a rumour?" he was actually curious about the concept. He'd never had motion sickness, but him having motion sickness would be strange as he loved motion so much.

AIAN KAMUY
"To protect life.
To destroy life. Sometimes they are the same thing."
Kokonoe had already locked herself in her cabin before Zach had asked the question;sitting down at her desk trying to remove the migrain that was rising over her head. In her stead, one of the head technician took her place of giving orders, and even to answering Zach's question of flying with the ship to look over the damages or attempt to pull the rig as they flew to increase their speed. "As we fly, checking on the status of the engine will be part of the mechanic's job and keeping maitanence; but you can assist them with their permission. Meanwhile pulling the vessle might not be wise. If we are to get attacked whilst air borne, I doubt the Iron one over there can be of much use. There are birds that are in flight that can damage the ship; so keeping them away if they come towards us would be more useful than having you pulling the vessle. I suggest if you become bored and are looking for something to do; than you can help maintaine our flight or making sure he doesn't cause any more problems." The technician suggested, pointing at Aian whom was still examening his hole.

"It looks like I can undent and fix this hole here with some some extra Iron to restabilize it; that way it wouldn't be an obstruction" He stated, jumping down into the hole with some of the workers. Immediately, Aian began punching the metal pieces from the impact zone up into place; bending and quickly repairing the hole while two others were beginning to weld the pieces back shut with torches. The task would have normally been the men cutting the pieces out, and placing two place holding slates over the hole to prevent anyone from tripping in the form of patchwork; but this proved to be just as effective. Aian was giving off pieces of his Iron to act as sealing agents while the workers welded the slates shut. It only took them thirty minutes to repair the hole before Aian went back ontop to view the work he had done. "I see it worked out as I thought it would. Now if only there is some iron I can eat to replenish what I have lost..." He contemplated, making his way back towards the lower deck.

However, he was stopped with Zach asking an odd question, "Hey Iron Man. You get motion sick as a dragon slayer or is that just a rumour?" This was the second time his mission partner had called him by an obscure nickname. Aian turned to his mission partner, staring at him slightly irritated by the lack of requesting Aian's real name.
"My name is not, Mr. Heavy or Iron Man. My name is Aian and I would be grateful if you were to address me by name, Mr. Rose." Aian stated, using the same name Kokonoe used back at the tent before the two left. It was then Aian lightened up and thought for a moment about the motion sickness problem most had. Aian never had it himself, nor did he see his friend having issues till he remembered his real magic. He didn't know about many others; accept for Sukiro but never joined her on a travel and only met her at mission points. "And to answer your question, which I apologize for any earlier rudeness with that last address, but I personally don't suffer Motion sickness. I heard the rumor my self; but I never experienced it. My friend has, but I don't know about the others. All I know is that I can't swim...at all. Even with my advanced physical strength, I can't budge in the water and will just sink."

Post by Rosetta Crawford 18th April 2014, 6:15 am

Zack shrugged at the beratement he suffered for calling the man various names. Of course, he hadn't really meant anything bad by it. Just being a bit playful and free spirited, it was in his nature after all. Besides, if the man wanted to be addressed by his name he should of said it sooner. Sure, Zack could of asked, but that wouldn't of been as fun. It was a shame he now knew the actual name though. He'd enjoyed making up these nicknames. Ah well, c'est la vie and all that. "Ok then Aian it is. Was pretty close with Iron Man though..." he said and then considered the points one of the head technician's said. Helping the mechanics fix and maintain the ship sounded his style of thing, well other than fighting, so he looked at the iron slayer. "Anyway...i'm gonna head down to the engine room and see if I can help speed up this flying snail." he said and began to walk off then he turned back. " You're more than welcome to join me." this was addressed to both Aian and Devon, who was watching the proceedings silently. She nodded and followed him down towards the engine room, whether Aian would follow or not was entirely up to him.

When Zack arrived at the engine room he whistled appreciately at the structure. It was pretty big and pretty powerful. It seemed Kokonoe had been right when she said it would handle Aian's weight. Still, Zack's keen eyes could tell it was an inefficient design. Changing the design whilst flying would be tricky, but not impossible. The question was whether or not they had the parts. He headed over to the head mechanic who was looking at one of the turbines with a look of despair on his face. "Hey there, mind if I help fix and improve this engine? Got nothing better to do on the flight towards our destination." the man looked at him quizzically. Zack didn't look the mechanical type.

"I need all the help I can get, but not from amateurs." the man replied. There was a slight questioning tone to his voice that suggested that he would let Zack help if he could prove himself good enough.

"Well, I mostly focus on motorcycles myself. Built a few from scratch and others i've streamlined and made more efficient. Speed is my thing ya know...so I always try to improve on my beauties." he replied and then considered the point. The man nodded in agreement. Zack couldn't do any real damage fixing the turbine. It was already broken after all.

The turbines were, as the status report said, mostly operational. This one was a spare and if Zack got it working they could swap out one of the damaged ones and improve the engine efficiency a bit. Zack stared at it for a moment and began to walk around it, his keen eyes looking for any obvious signs of damage. Then without warning he grabbed hold of a toolbox and without a word began to take the entire turbine apart. Once it was all in pieces he began to look it over whilst mumbling to himself. "Hmmm, not a bad design. It gets the job done, but its kind of inefficient." he said and then began to, at high speed, put it back together. However, rather than the big bulky thing that they had before he made two smaller turbines that were sleeker. He looked them over critically.

"Not my best work, but...the two together should be about 30% more efficient than the big one was." he said and awaited the mechanics approval.

"How the hell did you do that so fast? I've been looking at that on and off for days trying to get it working."

"I've got keen eyes and speed is my thing." Zack replied with a grin. "Sometimes you have to take something apart to see whats going wrong. Few internal bits had bent somehow." he said and indicated some of the parts he had not put in. "They wouldn't of lasted long even if they weren't bent though. Bit of a sloppy design."

"I told them not to buy cheap rubbish. It always ends up costing you more than the expensive ones." the man said with a shake of his head.

"True that. I'll swap one of the big turbines out for some of these then." he said and began to push the turbines into place. Then at high speed he quickly disconnected one of the other turbines causing a slight lurch as the ship struggled to maintain its speed. Another lurch was felt as the new turbines were attached. This time as the ship speeded up slightly. They fitted nicely into the spot the old one had occupied. "Hmmm, based on the turbines i'd say this ship is going about 85% as fast as it could now. I can probably swap out the damaged turbines one at a time and fix them up like that one. Should improve the efficiency somewhat."

AIAN KAMUY
"To protect life.
To destroy life. Sometimes they are the same thing."
Aian was looking for ways to keep himself busy, though there wasn't much to do. All the cargo was on board, the engines were now properly repaired thanks to Zach, and there was nothing that Aian could do ontop of the deck while the flight began. He couldn't even find scraps of Iron to eat -or any food to mention- on the ship. So as the ship started up, he found himself a comfortable spot on the ship to relax on. This spot so happened to be on top of the captain's cabin as it was roofed with reflective metal that made it one of the warmest spots on the ship in the already blistering sun. Aian enjoyed the heat, despite being super pale, due to him growing up in the blazing hot canyon to the northwest. Some of the workers wondered how he got up there and how he was staying up there without breaking through the roof. Though Aian weighed almost a ton, he still had the ability to be nimble when he tried to be; though it all depends on the surface he was on.

The ship took off from the desert sand below casually; and their ride to the lacrima in the sky began. However, it wasn't even long before trouble arrived. Aian was the first to detect it; by smelling the creatures under the sand and hearing a distinct sound coming from the south. Aian rolled over and examined the waving heat lines and sand of the hot desert searching for whatever it was that was coming towards them. It wasn't long till he found a bunch of fish like birds diving in and out of the sands similar to panguins. However, these birds were capable of flight as they would also hover and flap their wings to gain some slight altitude. By his estimation, there was two schools worth of these creatures swiftly making their way towards the ship. Aian watched below as some of the workers who noticed, called up for everyone to rush to the side of the deck with some form of gun to keep the creatures away. Aian was all for scare tactics, but these people were aiming right for the fish-like-birds. However, Aian continued to hear yet another sound racing towards them behind the fish. Though because of the desert's heat; he could not see the creature yet as vision was distorted. Aian looked back down at the workers and birds; watching them prepare to fire.
"Stop!" He shouted, catching the workers temporarily off guard and making them all look up at him. Aian immediately took in a very deep breath-twenty seconds worth- that extended his chest to an extreme point. Though Aian's body was compressed, his lungs were extrodinarily powerful and made his chest cavity flexible; enabling him to take him massive amounts of air. Aian took aim towards the fish as though he were about to cast a spell; which in the eyes of the workers they thought he was going too. However, Aian simply blew out a giant gust of air towards the center of the two schools right as they were about to get too close to the ship. This kicked up a giant wall and veil of sand; forcing the birds to deter towards the two sides of the ship. Aian continued blowing out this heavy stream of air, turning and directing the fishy-birds further and further to the sides so they would pass by harmlessly from the ship. This went on for a full minute, even till they were well beyond the birds's current reach of altitude as they continued to glide above the sand. Aian lightly hopped down, which still caused a huge thud against the metal frame of the ship as the workers tried coming over to question him.
"Why didn't you just use a spell to kill those creatures?"
"Bring the ship down! Quickly!" Aian ignored, knowing that something was beginning to pick up speed towards them from its vision being blocked.
"Are you mad? We just took off!"
"Than point this ship straight upwards and let's go! If we stay at this angle, were going to get rammed!"
"Rammed by what?" The workers continued to question, though a quick loud rawr from behind answered their questions. It was the same dragon-like creature they had been dealing with before the mages arrived; and it was making its way directly towards them in a hurry. Seeing no time for the ship to react, Aian took in another deep breath, aiming towards the dragon. This time for sure; the workers thought he was going to use his magic. Yet again however, they were proven wrong. Aian snarled his face and stood up right leaning back; before slightly throwing himself forward and making a deep, loud roar that lasted for thirty seconds. Growing up in the wild, Aian knew intimidation very well; as his master was always projecting it. The roar echoed in the open space of the desert from its intensity; causing the ship to slightly rattle. However, the drak in front of them dove under the ship; avoiding the roar's creation. Once the drak proved to be avoiding the ship Aian stopped and panted slightly holding his throat. He wasn't used to making a lot of loud sounds; so it put a bit of strain on his vocal cords. The workers than watched the drak move under the ship swiftly; aiming for the two schools of fish-like birds. Kokonoe also made an entrace; bursting out of her cabin.
"What the hell is going on!?" She demanded to know, storming to the side of the ship to see what everyone was looking at. There, they all watched the drak sweep up the fish-like-birds left and right with its jaws; devouring them whole and eating almost the entirty of one school before picking up altatude once more. Aian was also watching, and couldn't help but give Kokonoe a glare of "I told you" for the creature's appearance.

Post by Rosetta Crawford 7th May 2014, 4:27 pm

Zack heard the commotion and rushed outside but by the time he got there all the 'fun' as he would put it was over. He called over one of the men and listened to how Aian had driven off the creatures and to be honest Zack was impressed. It was a completely non-lethal and non-offensive way of deterring the pests. Sure it wasn't something he'd of done because it would of been boring, but it was an impressive strategy. It seemed that there was another school of fish-like birds, but for now they didn't appear to be a threat. He sighed deeply. He'd maxed out the engines efficiency as far as he could with the parts he had avaliable. If he'd thought of bringing his toolkit then he could of done, but even without it he'd boosted the ship to beyond its previous best speed.

"Nice job Aian." Zack said with an appreciative nod and then turned to Devon who looked at him and grinned. She assumed a fighting stance and he did as well. Suddenly without warning she lunged forward, but she was too slow. Zack weaved out of the way and spun round kicking her heavily on the back sending her sprawling to the ground. She grinned and then lunged again. This time though she threw herself to the side and then kicked off attempting to strike him from the side with a palm strike. Zack moved slightly grabbing hold of her wrist and tossing her over his shoulder. She flew off the ship and activated her wings to prevent her hitting the ground before flying back. "Nice work on the feint. If you'd been a fraction of a second quicker I think you'd of had me." She hovered in the air and assumed a fighting stance once more. This time a defensive stance Zack raised an eyebrow and then began hovering himself though it seemed he was not using anything at all to keep him airborne. It seemed Devon was fed up with attacking and failing and thus decide to see if Zack could penetrate her defense. IT was a purely non-magical battle and purely a spar to keep them occupied as they travelled. Plus it gave some entertainment for the crew.

He lunged forward, but didn't go straight for her as she expected. He didn't try to feint. Instead he went straight past her. Had he missed? No, Zack wouldn't miss so easily. She turned and saw why he'd decided not to attack her. Another school of the flying fish had approached. This one was going for the ship itself. Zack didn't like to kill unless he had to so he would merely strike these beasts with non-lethal attacks.

He flew into their midst and then with extreme skill and precise power began to strike out at the fish hitting them in specific spots that knocked them unconcious. After a few were hit they all began to shriek and turned on him trying to attack him from all angles, but Zack was swift. He dropped down suddenly causing a bunch of them to collide and then flew back up hitting another bunch. Eventually he managed to take out enough that they saw it as a lost cause and flew off allowing him to return to the ship. "Well that kept my occupied for five minutes." he said with a shrug. "Wish you hadn't driven off the big one. That would of been a fun fight."

AIAN KAMUY
"To protect life.
To destroy life. Sometimes they are the same thing."
Kokonoe watched the giant flying lizard go off to eat the schools of flying fish, watching it half out of knowledge pursuit and fascination. Because the creature was not recorded before; it would be her chance to add in yet another species into the Magic Council's logs. Because it seemed like Aian had some knowledge of this creature; she motioned for him to approach while keeping her eyes on the beast flying below and in front of them."So, what is that thing?" She stated once Aian got close enough for her to register he was near.

Aian didn't really wish to be near her, but knew that working together was one of the only ways he might be able to pursuade her to change her mind about the water lacrima; and shut it down. "From what my master told me, it's a Drake."
"You mean its an actual dragon?" Kokonoe questioned, wanting specific details.
"No, not specifically. Consider it a dragon sub-species like the Wyverns, or the Wyrms. It was mistaken for a dragon and so was given that form of name. Unlike Wyverns and Wyrms though; its strength isn't limited to just the air or the ground. In this region, its top predator in the air during the cooler rain season. On the ground its vunerable to its old enemy; though that is not the case anymore."
"Old enemy? Explain what that is and why its no longer a threat? Did it die out?" Her interest peaked, she drived to dig out all the information that she could. Aian appeared to be not so stupid anymore into her eye.
"I was told its an ancient beast that used to rule this land when it was a complete marsh like swamp. Though once the sun stopped the rains from periodically coming; it dug itself underground to keep cool and went to sleep. Its still sleeping miles upon miles underneath the sea of this desert. That is why you need to stop the lacrima; if all the water seeps down back towards that creature it will re-awaken. And I doubt any mage force you have will be able to stop it anywhere near easy if at all." Aian explained, leering at her out of the corner of his eye.
Kokonoe simply scoffed at the idea, folding her arms across her chest. "You underestimate us far too much."
"Or I am estimating right, and you will only learn from your stubbern actions when its too late and you permanetaly changed the ecosystem because you refused to listen to the first time. Much like children. This is why I despize most humans on this forsaken planet." Aian stated harshly and cold, walking away from the scientist leaving aggrovated and annoyed. She marched off back towards her cabin; getting out of the heat.

"Nice job Aian." He heard Zack state, though it was because he just reached the deck and noticed the aversion of the Drak. Aian nodded in recognization of the compliment. Most monsters don't attack what is presumed to be bigger and more dangerous than they are; always wanting the easier-non threatening-meal. Aian watched as Zack and his partner began to spar out of the blue. Aian observed their moves carefully; hoping to enhance his own fighting skills by watching the two duelists. The battle didn't last that long before Zack dove past his companion, and went over the side of the deck. Aian moved close, along with some of the other crew members, to see what he was doing. It turned out there was indeed a third school of flying-fish. Aian had no way of lending a hand without harming Zack, so instead he watched this time. He was striking at the fish in a way to get the knocked out; though the aggressive behavior made the fish attack and swarm onto him. Yet Zack remained unharmed and simply knocked the fish groups off enough before they began flying away. He returned to the ship moments after the fish flew away; though Aian was not impressived with the aggressive behavior. His comment about how it killed time was a bit inappropriate to Aian, but it was expected. Aian had to admit though; he was fairly skilled.
"Wish you hadn't driven off the big one. That would of been a fun fight." Zack stated to Aian, obviously proving Aian was right about the whole scenario.

"Fighting the creatures isn't part of our mission; its to protect the ship. Just because you find it more enjoyable to have the image of fighting a Drak head on, doesn't mean it makes the ship safe. You could have all the fun you want with it; but it very well can cause the ship to plummet if you don't hold its attention. I would rather avoid fighting anything unneccesary so that we can remain on course and get this mission over with as soon as we possibly can. It irritates me enough to know what is going on and be unable to stop it. I don't want to harm anything that is not purposefully attacking us. Though if you are looking for fun, you and I can have a small sparing match. I am sure you are interested into seeing what I can do in a fight." Aian explained, trying to lure Zack or his companion into the spar. It was Aian who was more interested into the idea, and it was truely better than doing nothing. Aian may hate fighting, but he had no problem with a friendly spar or two.

Zack felt slightly berated by the words, but he really didn't care. He didn't do things for good or evil in truth. He did them to challenge himself and to seek excitement. True, he might suit a dark guild, but he wasn't evil. He didn't like to kill. He just didn't follow rules. "Perhaps, but I would rather drive it off sooner rather than later. Means the scientists can get on with their job without a battle in the middle of things." he said with a shrug and then leapt backwards assuming a defensive fighting stance. "Plus I hate just lazing about...a spar sounds good though." It would be very interesting to see what Aian was capable of. He hadn't fought an iron slayer nor had he ever fought a person as heavy  as Aian. Sure he had fought against large heavy opponents, but not one like Aian. His size combined with his weight would make him tricky. He had proved himself strong with his earlier jump, but Zack suspected the man would likely be quite slow. "So any particular rules you want to put in place for this or is it a free for all?" He would stick with his bare hands in this fight and leave his swords for later. It was always good to keep a few items in reserve.

"What do you mean a spar?" Kokone demanded looking at the two slayers. "I won't have you wrecking this ship again just to relieve your boredom." Zack considered this for a moment and looked at Aian. He had damaged the ship heavily earlier just by jumping. If the spar got out of hand then the ship, which Zack had just fixed, could be completely destroyed.

"You have a point." Zack replied. "But don't worry we won't wreck the ship. If it starts getting out of hand Devon will stop it. Right?" he added turning to the fairy who nodded and stood there with her spear at the ready.

"I might not be as fast or as strong as these two, but I can handle them enough to stop a fight." she said with confidence in her voice. Kokone considered this and then nodded.

"You have ten minutes. If it goes on longer than that i'll stop it myself if I have to." she replied and walked away.  Zack grinned. That had been easier then he expected. Now all he had to do was keep himself under control and not break the ship. Easy right? For most people probably, but they were powerful mage's and slayers at that.

"Let's see what you've got." Zack said and then suddenly lunged forward aiming a punch at Aian's chest. It was time to see if this slayer was as 'iron' in defense as Zack suspected he would be. It was likely that Aian would be able to dodge or counter him in some way, but that just made it more fun. Direct attacks first to gauge the opponent and then he could fight properly. Instinct told him that strong blows rather than speedy ones would be more effective. Powerful, precise strikes. It was the only way to win.

AIAN KAMUY
"To protect life.
To destroy life. Sometimes they are the same thing."
"Perhaps, but I would rather drive it off sooner rather than later. Means the scientists can get on with their job without a battle in the middle of things." Zach stated, which Aian had to agree too. It would keep them both out of the way as the scientists prepared their materials for the repair of the lacrima ahead. With a shrug and then a leap backwards, Zach assumed a defensive fighting stance. "Plus I hate just lazing about...a spar sounds good though." Aian was glad for the accepted spar, and put himself into a wide, solid stance. Both of his fists were raised in front of him; ready to tackle anything head on. "So any particular rules you want to put in place for this or is it a free for all?"
"No magic. I don't really care if you use weapons, but no magic so things stay somewhat under control...Let's also stay away from the sides as best as we can; as well as the mast and cabin area. Other than that; we should be all good." Aian explained, not wanting to damage the ship on accident. He had no idea what the fighting prowess of his opponant was.
"What do you mean a spar?" Kokone demanded looking at the two slayers. "I won't have you wrecking this ship again just to relieve your boredom." Kokonoe had a point, though despite Aian's attempts to keep the ship maintained; he would have to add an extra limiter to himself, no jumping. Aian could probably leap over a small distance to gap close so long as he was careful about how he landed. But he could not jump straight up into the air. Though as Zach and Devon began making points of how they would keep the battle under control; it made Aian a bit more at ease:
"But don't worry we won't wreck the ship. If it starts getting out of hand Devon will stop it. Right?" Zach turned to his companion, whom nodded and stood there with her spear at the ready.
"I might not be as fast or as strong as these two, but I can handle them enough to stop a fight." she re-established with confidence in her voice. Kokone considered this and then nodded.
"You have ten minutes. If it goes on longer than that i'll stop it myself if I have to." With their fight approved rather easily; Aian faced Zach once more; having remained in his stance the entire while.

"Let's see what you've got." Aian tightened his fists; ready. Zach lunged at him straight on; which made Aian raise a brow as he got close. Was Zach that confident in his strength to challenge Aian head on? Aian then remembered another rule he should state; remembering of an entity that would do the same thing. Aian could have dodged if he wanted; but he stayed his ground. Instead, he through out his left palm rather quickly as Zach got into range, and stopped the punch dead in its tracks before it came close to hitting his chest. Though it was Aian's left hand and palm, any normal person would have felt like it was a wall of stone of lead that they had just punched. Aian's condensed body made him extrodinarily durable; but depending on the strength of his opponant; Aian may find himself getting hurt if he was careless.
"One last rule...Don't make me bleed to the best of your abilitys...I won't be able to control it if you do." Aian warned, clenching his right fist. Though Aian weighed nearly a ton; he was no where near slow. He moved like a normal person; and had trained how to fight others hand to hand very well. His prefered testing style, was boxing. Aian performed a corckscrew straight with his right hand; aiming it at Zach's face as he closed up the gap with a very small dash. The force from the punch was easily noticeable-even if Zach had dodged- as the punch landed its marked destination. The wind alone generated from the punch would have been as though a car had just sped by. If Zach had taken the punch, he would have felt the same force within such a concentrated area. If Zach had dodged, Aian would re-adjust his stance; and focus onto Zach. This was a testing out period between them to see how far they should take the spar. Aian would begin throwing quick jabs with his left fist. Each one of them miniature corckscrews to add more power. If a normal person was being struck, it would feel like being repeatedly bashed by a cinder block. All of these punches were with Aian's left hand. Though Aian was skilled with both of his hands; his right held priority. Though Aian had no idea how these punches would effect another slayer; let alone someone a higher rank than he was. If Zach got out of reach by dodging; Aian would slowly close the gap to throw more punches. But he would not rush; making sure to keep his defense up.

Post by Rosetta Crawford 28th May 2014, 6:12 pm

So no magic and no making the guy bleed. Easy enough rules to follow. Not using magic at all made things a little tricker, but no matter. It just made it more fun. His fist collided with that of Aian's and as Zack had expected he barely moved the iron dragon slayer an inch. It was like hitting a wall of iron. The counter punch game quicker than he expected, but Zack was all about speed and so was able to narrowly dodge it. The wind from the blow though was a lot greater than he anticipated and sent him sliding back a few inches. Rather than going in straight for the attack once more he leapt back using the slight momentum the wind had generated to get out of close range. It was a close run thing too as Aian's second punch would of hit him dead on and, judging by the wind, done some damage. Zack was not the type to think in battle or at least not often. He normally went purely by instinct.

He lunged forward once more as if going for another straight punch. Rather than doing just an ordinary jab he added the corkscrew like motion that he had seen Aian do and was amazed at the increase in power. He knew he hadn't got it quite right, but then again he was a swordsman more than a fist fighter. His intention was for Aian to block the blow again like before. His entire attack plan, that instinct had given him, relied on it.

If he did then Zack would use his other hand to grab hold of Aian's wrist and twist himself to perform a powerful kick to the man's head. On a normal opponent this of course had the potential to be a fatal blow, but he was certain Aian could take the blow. Besides, he was hoping for this attack to fail to see some more of Aian's close combat.

If it failed then Zack was likely to get a few punches for his troubles. It would be a good test of his opponent's strength. He didn't want to get too beaten up, but even if he did Zack was a sky slayer. He could just heal himself if necessary. He didn't care it if failed. It was all a good test of his opponent.

"Let's see what you've got Aian." Zack would say with a grin no matter the outcome. He was happy to be fighting. In the revelry of combat he felt truly alive. Especially against a strong, skilled or hopefully both.

Devon was watching the battle with interest sitting there ready to intervene if necessary. The battle was not going in either person's favour. Both seemed to be on the defensive, striking out occasionally with offense. Now, Zack might not seem like he was on the defensive, but for one who knew how he normally fought she was confident in saying he was playing it defensively. Still, she was impressed at how unfazed Aian seemed. Even high level mages normally would at least be shocked at the speed and ferocity of Zack's blows.

AIAN KAMUY
"To protect life.
To destroy life. Sometimes they are the same thing."
Aian's right straight appeared to just barely miss him, and from the looks of things the force of the wind alone pushed Zach backwards. Aian quickly readjusted himself so he was once again facing Zach head on; and began his left jab to try and preassure Zach. Yet before he could land the strike and begin a chain; Zach had once again dodged, leaping backwards. Aian normally did not think in battle much. Everything was left to his instincts and keen eye to make very rapid decisions. He assumed that his opponant was one who was thinking as he took the time to give some space between himself and Aian. Aian fortified his defences, and waited for Zach to close in once more; knowing that he did not have to go onto the offensive. The downside to this was that Aian was clearly at the disadvantage of speed. Aian would have to guess what Zach was going to do ahead of time in order to react, but this was a flawed assumption based tactic. If Aian guessed wrong, he would suffer. And even if he was right, he had to account his opponant's reflex time in order t o land a single hit. This made things complicated; but it was a spar and not an actual battle to the death. If it were, neither of them would be attempting to hold back their magic.

That is when he noticed his opponant dashing in again. It looked like a repeat of what just happened, but Aian noticed something new. An imperfected corkscrew motion. Aian's instincts told him one thing: If the opponant is trying something brand new, they got a follow up plan. Dodged or Blocked, one of the two held a contingency plan to make up for the imperfected punch now being thrown. Aian took into assumption of what Zach thought about Aian; and came to one of his assumptioned guesses: "Zach wants me take it head on again." This of course was a theory, as last time it appeared as though Zach was hoping for a dodge in Aian's reaction. Dodging left Aian vulnerable longer than blocking did. Dodging was a gamble on Aian's end as his whole body was exposed during it. Jf Zach was truely aiming for him to dodge, Aian was going to regreat it. Aian prepared himself as Zach got within range.

When the moment of truth came, Aian swurved and ducked down underneath Zach's punch. Aian expected a quick follow up; but nothing came as the punch hit its climax. Seasing the moment of opportunity; Aian quickly rose with his shoulder into Zach's armpit and wrapped his arms around the arm Zach just punched with. Aian knew more than just boxing for close quarters. He knew how to throw his heavy body mass around and really do some damage with submissions and slams. Aian was now in the clear point. Aian jumped hard enough to roll over Zach; while still maintaining his arm in his grip, and use his legs to grapple an opposite end of thim; either his head or other arm. Then, Aian forced himself to roll forward to summersault Zach so he landed directly onto the opposite shoulder of the arm Aian had his arms grappling. Because the deck was hard; it would not be a comfortable landing even if Zach managed to have his shoulder avoid all of the impact. Upon throwing Zach anyway, Aian let go of both pieces; and landed low onto the ground on all fours. Rather the throw was a success or not; depended on Zach's reflexes. Aian began hoping that he did not make a mistake in not just putting a heavy submission hold onto Zach; but he did not want to be unfair either if his opponant could not pry him off or find a way to stop the hold before tapping out. Aian did not want the spar to end immediately; he wanted to test himself, not just win.

Mission: Why did the sky stop crying? (NightDriven and DemonZack) Empty Re: Mission: Why did the sky stop crying? (NightDriven and DemonZack)

Post by Rosetta Crawford 15th June 2014, 9:16 am

Zack was far less lucky then he thought or at least far less skilled. It seemed in close combat Aian was far more experienced. He was highly skilled at using his heavy body in powerful strikes, throws and grapples. Zack normally would of tried to use his upper body strength to counter the throw by landing on his palm and then throwing his opponent yet instinct and knowledge told him trying such a thing with a heavy opponent like Aian would lead to more damage. Zack had expected his opponent to be skilled and had wanted to see some of the skill his opponent had. However, it seemed Aian had made a mistake because as he performed the throw he let go of Zack. Zack was thus able to turn the motion into a roll thus reducing the impact. It still hurt quite a bit and it wasn't exactly comfortable, but it was a lot less damage. Zack rose to his feet and immediately a few people raised eyebrows as they saw that Zack's clothing was entirely clean.

"If you start feeling a bit ill I apologise." Zack said as he realised something. This was a close combat fight and thus Aian would be touching him. "My blood isn't exactly normal...and it can let out a bit of the toxin. Can't really stop it." He ro tated his arm a few times. "It has a few advantages...my arm feels fine already for instance." He took a deep breath and walked forward. "That was a nice move by the way. You're a lot better at grappling and counters then me." Zack paused considering this point further. "Suppose its because I tend to fight giant beasts more than other humans." he looked over at Aian an idea coming into his head. Aian was incredibly skilled at close combat. He was able to counter Zack's speed and also had come good techniques like that corkscrew punch. Perhaps this was a time not to just test his skills, but to learn some new ones.  "Mind giving me a few tips? If not i'll just have to try and learn through fighting you"

Close combat with his swords there were few who could match him. With his fists and feet he was generally pretty good as well, but he had never really done a lot of grappling and throwing. Considering his high level of strength and maneuverability it would be an ideal addition to his arsenal. He wouldn't be able to throw someone like Aian heavily, but perhaps he could throw the average fighter a bit better. "So what do you say?"

---------------------
Devon was surprised. Zack normally wasn't the type to ask for help. Nor was he the type to give up on a fight so easily. Was Aian really that good? Or was Zack finally seeing that he needed to learn some new tricks to make himself a better fighter. It would be interesting to see what happened next. She walked forwards towards the two slayers. "I would not mind learning either. I already know a bit, but you are never too skilled to learn a new trick or two."

AIAN KAMUY
"To protect life.
To destroy life. Sometimes they are the same thing."
Zack's reflexes were expected. While in the air he rolled too reduce the impact of the throw significantly. A standard way of avoiding tramendous damage. He got to his feet, and looked like he was about to continue till a lightbulb popped into his head. "If you start feeling a bit ill I apologise." Zack apologised, though Aian had no idea what he meant. For a while, nothing on Aian felt any different. Aian had no positive idea what Zack was talking about but kept it into consideration if it began to happen later on. "My blood isn't exactly normal...and it can let out a bit of the toxin. Can't really stop it." Aian watched him rotate his arm a few times as though to get feeling back into it or to replace it. "It has a few advantages...my arm feels fine already for instance." He took a deep breath and walked forward. Aian braced himself, getting ready to continue the spar; as he thought Zack was telling him his attacks were going to be useless. Though instead he kept talking. "That was a nice move by the way. You're a lot better at grappling and counters then me." Zack paused, Aian kept up his guard despite the casual talk in case Zack was trying to get him to relax. "Suppose its because I tend to fight giant beasts more than other humans." He stated, looked over at Aian which made him raise an eyebrow. "Mind giving me a few tips? If not i'll just have to try and learn through fighting you" Aian was unsure of how to respond to this request. But even Zack's partner joined in with the idea.
"I would not mind learning either. I already know a bit, but you are never too skilled to learn a new trick or two." Aian still had to give it thought; his training was all reflexive based; nothing was really pounded into his head that wasn't self taught. He had no way of verbally teaching someone how to fight.

"I apologise; but if you want to learn you will have to keep up the spar. I learned everything while fighting for my life under my master, nothing was taught other than magic. My fighting skills are all subconciouse reactions from my instincts. To some it would seem as though I was trained by a professional. I guess I can agree with that, the professional being Mother Nature. If you both want to learn; you will each have to fight me. With no weapons or magic, there is little either of you will be able to do that will REALLY hurt me." He stated, not trying to sound confident or boastful. Though he did think of ONE thing that a spar between them could cause major damage. "So long as you both don't...throw me off here that is..." Aian corrected himself knowing that if he fell; it was a one way trip to being burried alive in sand.

Post by Rosetta Crawford 5th July 2014, 3:17 pm

It seems his Immortal Blood hadn't taken effect yet. Either that or Aian was better at hiding it then most. Or the effects were not as obvious on someone as strong as him. Come to think of it hadn't ever seen if the effects worked on other slayers. They did have strange bodies after all. It might not work at all, particularly on poison slayers as they were naturally poison filled. It was definitely something he'd have to try out in the future. Zack considered the words Aian said. So he relied on his instincts in battle and those were honed from harsh training. It wasn't so different from how Zack himself thought, though it was vastly different than Devons. "

"If you both want to learn; you will each have to fight me." were the words the iron dragon slayer spoke.

Zack grinned. Learning through doing was what he wanted to do anyway. Though he had expected some tips or ideas it would be fine. After all, if one slayer who relied on instinct could learn it then so could another and besides, Zack was a very quick learner. Devon took a step forward preparing to attack, but Zack raised an arm to block her path. She looked at him with a puzzle expression upon her face. He just smiled more broadly. "You hold back Devon. I can teach you the moves later in our own spars." with that he dashed forward in a blur. He doubted he could match Aian in terms of strength or weight, but his edge was his speed and agility. As he lunged forward he moved in a zig zag pattern. His speed was high enough that with each zig and zag he seemed to vanish and reappear getting closer and closer. The pattern was however predictable, which was why at the very end rather than going for a punch or kick he leapt up and launched a powerful double kick towards Aian's chest. Not perhaps the wisest of moves, but if it hit well then it could very well impress his opponent. Plus it would be the first real blow he managed to get onto the iron dragon slayer. Besides he hadn't thought about the attack he was going purely by his instincts. He couldn't win in a grapple match easily nor could he manage to push his opponent back with sheer strength. He needed to use his edges. He was the faster and more agile. He needed to use that to his advantage.

Devon stood back and watched observing keenly ready to make a move should she need to. She was now watching Aian closely to see how he would react to the speedy movements of Zack. She was used to such movements, but even she was struggling to see it. She could just barely see the diagonal movement as that rather than teleportation. It seemed Zack was now being truly serious in terms of speed. He was pushing himself to his limits in order to overwhelm Aian and see how he'd react to extreme speed. That was the sort of grappling Zack would need to learn how to counter. Speed was his game and if someone could prevent it via grappling then he needed to learn how to prevent their prevention. She couldn't even blink. If she blinked she felt she would miss some vital detail.

AIAN KAMUY
"To protect life.
To destroy life. Sometimes they are the same thing."
Aian wasn't surprised by Zach's intentions of keeping it a one on one. It would be easier for him to absorb the techniques if he was the only one fighting and didn't have to worry about missing anything by Devon interfering. But it meant Aian was in his biggest field of advantage. Aian's power and endurance left him lethal in one on one match if he became serious enough to want to go all out. Aian watched carefully as Zach immediately began dashing using speed. But it was not something he hadn't seen before. Aian had fought his friend, Reiki, many times in the past to get used to speed fighters. Reiki was a lightning mage back then so it proved to be accurate training. Their main tactics were to stay in their opponent’s blind spots and slowly break them down or deliver fatal wounds if they were assassins. Aian spent hours upon hours training with abnormality with animals his own size, smaller, and greater. In terms of experience; Aian had the advantage. The zigzagging pattern he was too familiar with as his eyes knew exactly where Zach was going to appear at; keeping up with his insane speed.

When Zach got close enough and jumped up, Aian charged forward. He had no intentions of blocking this attack, it was too obvious what Zach was going to do and Aian instinctively knew how to counter it. Double kicks after dropping were strong, but their power was in unleashing their full momentum upon impact. If hindered in mid swing; that power is greatly diminished and the attacker is pushed back. Most speed fighters use this for tipping their opponent’s balance. But Zach wasn't at that current distance so he wanted the full front of it to hit him for a greater effect. But the result he would meet would be catastrophic for his desires. Aian dashed forward to meet the kick head on as his legs were still partially bent; forcing Zach to kick off instead of actually kick: removing half of the power. Though Aian still took some blunt damage his iron wall frame prevented it from slowing him down greatly. To a trained eye it appeared he hesitated for a moment and continued. As Zach was still in the air, Aian attempted to grab his left leg and gently push him towards the ground. If successful, it would leave Aian in an advantageous position of being able to be overhead of Zach; a very deadly place for his opponents. Aian would then curl up his right arm and attempt a devastating right straight beamed directly towards Zach's stomach that would simulate a nail being hammered into a wooden plank. The nail and hammer was Aian and his fist. The wooden plank was Zach's stomach meeting the floor. If Aian missed this punch, his fist would sink into deck by at least two inches leaving a perfect indent of his fist in the metal deck. If Aian were disrupted; the attack would be canceled.
If Zach didn't even fall as Aian attempted to plan; than Aian would go back into a defensive stance. It was clear that Aian was relying on counter strategies by instinct. The only way was to somehow surprise Aian and lead him into a false tactic. If Zach could manage to do that by instinct; he would find himself in the advantageous position as Aian would be vulnerable performing his counter measures.

Kokonoe was watching this fight through her window; taking down some notes on her clients. It was valuable data for sure; but it appeared she was focusing on Aian's performance. It was a sign that she didn’t trust him greatly with his multiple defiance’s. If he attempted to betray her; she would have the data needed to pin him down and get him properly arrested by having his battle data on hand.

Post by Rosetta Crawford 5th July 2014, 4:20 pm

As both Zack and Devon had expected Aian was able to counter the speed. Yet how he countered it surprised both of them greatly. Rather than attempt to block or grapple he moved forward reducing the impact and made Zack kick off rather than hit Aian with the full force. He flew through the air and Aian attempted to grab his left leg. This was successful as was the push to the deck. Yet Zack was very flexible anda gile and managed to use the ground to free himself. He pushed off the ground away against the thumb of Aian's hand and pushed off breaking free of the grip. Thus when Aian's punch came it narrowly missed hitting him. It was a good thing too because judging by the indent that blow left on the deck, which caused the watching Kokonoe to scowl and scribble some extra notes, Zack would have received major damage. Aian's strength was a problem as was his weight. If he used them effectively he could destroy an opponent in a few blows. He wasn't slow either particularly in the brain. He had judged Zack's movements and defended against them flawlessly. Sure, Zack had done the same against the counter, but it had been a close run thing. If he hadn't of been able to gain purchase on the ground then he could have lost the fight there and then. Sure he could heal up the wound, but that wasn't the problem. He couldn't lose so quickly. He needed to learn from this fight.

Devon watched with interest. Aian had countered the speedy assault Zack had provided. It seemed that he was used to dealing with high speed attacks. Unfortunately, without magic or weapons Zack had little to rely on except his speed. Well, in the case of this battle any way. In order to win or do some damage he would need to do things Aian wouldn't expect. He needed to use his speed and agility in a whole new way. The question was would he be able to see it? Or would his instincts tell him something else entirely.

Zack flipped back and onto his feet immediately going into a low run. His opponent had gone back into a defensive stance ready to counter Zack. It seemed he was going for the same tactic again, but he wasn't. He was going for a very different approach. He would use him being low to the ground to his advantage. This time as he got close he threw himself forward into a roll and attempted a rather unsportsmanlike attack. He went straight for the groin. A rolling kick was a new one for him so the power and accuracy wouldn't be great, but it was an unusual technique. So unusual it caused Devon to raise an eyebrow. Zack was normally all for aerial attacks, but here he was trying to dominate what was basically an iron wall on the ground. It was certainly an interesting approach. She wondered how effective it would be.
