    Spoiler:
A black dress up shoe slowly touched on dark soil. The young looking mans ink black hair seemed to almost blend in with the dark night surroundings. The village nearby looked dark, as would be expected, considering the job. It seemed even the waning moon wasn't a big fan tonight, as it's light was getting covered by dark storm clouds bit by bit. Why was he here? A job, one that the doctor desperately wanted to do. A curse that tormented a town didn't exactly sound like something to sit on. It's difficulty was too much for the mixed blood to do alone. This was why he had asked for Victoria to join him on it, how they both ended up signing up for such a task. Haraka had flown to the location to the job, but now that he was here? It almost felt like the night was especially dark in this area. The ice blue skinned person was fully capable of seeing in any natural darkness, but he didn't know if Victoria was. He had on a white dress vest, dark grey dress shirt, and white dress pants. The west fiore trading company pin was on the young looking mans chest. Would this be enough to be seen? A brief thought came to take his necklace off, but he didn't want to risk attracting the targets before even meeting up with the person he would be working with. Maybe a small light? This is what inspired him to create a small harmless blue flame. It hovered far enough from the mixed bloods skin to not burn him, giving a strangely aquatic glow.

The fires light gave the very small nearby area a feel of bits of light reaching the dark depths under the ocean. It was a dark feel that suited a landscape that already had an unnerving feel to it as it was. Omaras wasn't alone in waiting at least, William being awake. The baby demonic clam was hiding near its persons neck, the shy creature being on full alert. It was an adorable companion, but not really something he could have a lot of conversation with. Maybe when the creature was older? He had no idea if William was the sort of demon that would take a more humanoid form later in life. The man certainly knew there were ones that did just that. With the specific species something rarely seen outside of hell, there wasn't exactly piles of books brimming with information on how to care for his pet, or if he was actually caring for a tiny future humanoid. Was he a pet owner or a parent? At least it would be a long time before that question was answered. Deep sapphire blue eyes looked around, white slit pupils visible in the cool night weather.

Wearing a magic bullet-laden bandolier over a black hoodie with a blue t-shirt and khaki cargo shorts with white tennis shoes, Victoria walked into the Haunted Village. It was dark, depressing, and felt like the village was just barely hanging on. Maybe the fact that the village was in the doldrums due to a curse was why everything about it was dark and depressing. She and Haraka were here to change that. They were here to give the villagers a little hope for a change.

Their task was to stop a horde of evil living pumpkins from destroying the village and terrorizing its people any more than they already had. This job would be new ground for Victoria both figuratively and literally. Well, mostly new ground. She had never been to Haunted Village before tonight, but she had dealt with supernatural entities on at least three occasions before. She was also working with an allied mage, a fellow by the name of Haraka Omaras she had met before in Hargeon Town.

This would be the first occasion that the pair worked together. The scale of the job was too big for Victoria to take on by herself, so she jumped at the chance to work with Haraka. Now they had to find the pumpkins and put a stop to them, but first she had to find her job partner before the search for the ambulatory overgrown vegetables could begin.

The brunette spotted a small blue flame and homed in on it. She once recalled hearing that blue flames were connected to the spirit world, but this one was not moving around on its own. Someone was controlling it. As she walked closer to the source, she saw that a person with blue hair was controlling the blue flame. It was Haraka.

"Hi there Haraka." Victoria greeted the West Fiore Trading Company mage. The blue light was providing ambient light for the two mages, which was good because Victoria did not have a flashlight, night vision goggles, or anything else to light up the gloom. She would be depending on Haraka to light the way for them.

"So, are you ready to go smash some pumpkins?" Victoria asked Haraka. She had received the bandolier she was wearing as a gift from fellow Sabertooth member Itori, who knew what the brunette wanted out of a magic item. It was supposed to boost the power and firing rate of her weapons spells; tonight would be its first test. She suspected that she would have plenty of opportunities to try out the bandolier on the enemy pumpkins.

The half demon quietly waited, the fire fading from his hands as soon as their partner arrived. From the direction she came from, it looked like she had arrived first. Victoria only noticed him because of the night. There was a far more simple way to deal with this. The young looking man could just take off a certain necklace instead of trying not to burn himself with fire. Two arms moved, fingers with deep sapphire blue talons wrapping around a necklace hidden under his clothing. A beautiful blue light radiated dimly from his person as soon as the item was removed, tucking the necklace in a pocket on the underside of his dress vest. It wasn't a bright light, but it was strong enough to reach though the darkness of the night. With that done, their pale ice blue lips curved to a calm smile. With the two of them in one place, they could go meet the enemies. Was everything on him in order? It was so. The duo now also had a practical source of light, one that would make sure that he wasn't the only one with good sight in the deep night. "That sounds wonderful. They shouldn't be hard to find." Being honest, living pumpkins that attack and terrorize didn't exactly sound like a hard find. He doubted either of them would consider that part hard. He would say they should be ready for danger, but from the conversation they had when meeting? The young looking man  was positive she already knew there was danger on the way.

But of course there was a valid reason they were doing this, something that made the dangers worth the while. What was the first step into finding them? Well, the curse involved all pumpkins in the area, right? So they just had to find pumpkins. It was a smell he was familiar with, thus could smell it out. This was how he ended up smelling the air a bit. It was a type of fruit with a strong and distinct smell, and thus it was something that hit his nose pretty quickly. The half demon pointed in the direction the scent was coming from before heading in that direction himself. She was smart, so he was pretty confident that such a gesture would be easy to understand. No wasted time or words, just both of them diving deep and fast into work. Of course, it didn't escape the west fiore trading company member that the cursed beings would more than likely rush to the light. There was something about his light at night that brought certain types of beings quick to try and take a bite. It wasn't a light with any sort of magic. Maybe it was related to why there were predatory deep sea creatures with luminescent hides. It was something strange about gentle lights piercing far into the darkness, the very light that made different colored blue patterns on his tail and wings. This strange phenomenon was why Omaras was so sure that at least a few of these creatures would be just as eager to 'meet' them. That might be fore the best. It made it more likely to allow the two to fight the creatures in small groups instead of all at once.

There was a sound coming closer. They were near by one of the farms, but it was doubtful to be a farm animals. Cows, horses, and the like tend to be in their barn and fast asleep at this hour. It was likely...

Post by Victoria Sheridan 3rd January 2019, 6:05 pm

"Thanks for the light, Haraka." Victoria thanked the mage who had generated the light. She had left her flashlight behind for the umpteenth time and did not think to bring it. If she remembered to bring it in the future, she would need to bring a roll of duct tape so that she could tape it to a weapon for ease of use. Anyway, it was time to start smashing evil pumpkins who wanted to feast on the flesh of the villagers. They would get a feast all right, but not the one they wanted.

Victoria summoned her shotgun and began looking around the nearby farms. It was way too late at night for them to be grazing and there was little chance of any people being outside this late. People in the Haunted Village tended to go indoors and stay indoors once the sun went down, and with good reason. The rise of the evil pumpkins gave the village's residents one more valid reason to stay behind closed doors. It was up to Victoria and Haraka to get rid of the evil vegetables before they destroyed the village and killed everyone.

"It looks like we won't have to find them. I think they've found us." Victoria opined to her companion as the rustling in the fields got closer. Where were the pumpkins? She faced forward and saw the rustling die down... that was not good. Victoria aimed her shotgun in its direction and waited with bated breath. The tense evening calm was just about to end.

Victoria closed her eyes long enough to blink and out came a quartet of giant pumpkins on vines. They had burst out of the ground a few feet away from Victoria and had leaned down to try and take a bite out of the mage. Victoria avoided losing her face only by falling backwards and onto her backside, almost dropping her weapon in the process.

"LOOK OUT!" Victoria shouted at Haraka, raising her shotgun at the first of the four towering pumpkins and taking aim. Its head was a large target that was hard to miss, so that was a plus. The mage came out swinging by firing a Solid Slug that struck it below the right eye, blowing a small hole in its face and making it throw its head back before it made another attempt at taking a bite out of the brunette.

Victoria jumped back and fired her shotgun twice, each shot tearing small holes into its face. The magic bandolier was a big help in this fight because the brunette noticed that her spell's shots were flying a lot faster than they did without the bandolier. Combined with her reasonably good aim and the nature of a shotgun's projectiles, it was a trivial matter to hit the pumpkins with shot after shot. With five more Solid Slugs to its face, the first towering pumpkin fell to the ground oozing orange goo.

Its partner snapped at Victoria and grabbed the barrel of her weapon. Victoria screamed and fell back onto her backside; she recovered and aimed a Hand Cannon, firing a shot that hit the second one in between the eyes and making it almost spin around before it righted itself and glared at the mage. She brought out her sniper rifle and aimed carefully, then fired a Kinetic Shot that knocked it down and broke its vine. The second pumpkin creature did not move at all.

"We've got two more of them!" Victoria called out to Haraka, pointing out the nearby creatures. She then spotted a giant, hulking bipedal pumpkin creature off in the distance that definitely wanted them dead. It was in the distance, but it would get here very soon. They had better deal with the other enemies first.

"We've got a BIG pumpkin coming, so we'd better hurry up and deal with these guys first!" Victoria urged her job partner as she put away the sniper rifle and retrieved her shotgun, which was none the worse for wear.

The pale ice blue skinned man kept the cheerful feeling inside, smile remaining when thanked. "Always willing to be a helpful light in the darkness." Full lips spoke in as gentle and smooth of a voice as ever. His feel continued on their way, keeping in a positive mood. Everything was going smoothly so far, no surprises. Of course the creatures found the two. It was something he had seen coming, even non magical light can be alluring if there's enough surrounding darkness. He was starting to think that maybe this job would go smoothly. His body tensed as the expected attacks neared, breath looking chilled in the night sky. There had to be at least four vined looking pumpkin beasts that had rushed out hiding from a farms field. From how one reacted to Victoria, he had expected her to strike back at it. The half dragon didn't take the woman for someone who would let a plant eat her face off. This was proven right as the other person quickly took two of the cursed beasts down already. What wasn't expected? For the giant ugly abomination to pop up.

This was okay though! If he could help deal with Vulcans and aid in downing a monster pumpkin tower then this was doable. Thoughts shifted from mild surprise to the need to strike back. Harakas body shifted to it's naturally more aggressive and confident female side. This made it easier to act out thoughts she already had on what to do next. These thoughts were to help take out the remaining viney plant creatures before the big one could get too close. The smaller ones were clearly quick in action. It likely wouldn't bode well for either of them to not have full attention on them until those biters were gone. First things first, buy time! She made a certain plant seed before tossing the hungering vine at the direction of the powerful pumpkin abomination. Time now bought, she focused on the current targets. The woman charged herself at one of them, letting her wings and tail out before doing a back flip. The muscular deep sea mantis shrimp tail hit at the head, an easy to aim spot. The electrical attack had left a mark, but hadn't taken it down.

Omaras jumped off her hands, and out of the way of a fireball.
"Fire's terrible for crops." The young looking person started after landing on her feet, white ice starting to form in both hands. "I wonder how much these things have already cost the people..." The mixed blood was on the move again as soon as her ice khopesh fully formed. As for the seed tossed earlier? It had grown into many hungering vines, growing more in number each moment. While the amount of vines attacking the behemoth sized pumpkin thing didn't stun it by amount of vines or force, it did manage to stop the beast as it focused on trying to remove the plant that was trying to stop its movements. This was good, the main point of the hungering vines was to stop, not do damage. But she had faith in the plant behind the spell and her job partner, this is why her focus went to slashing and stabbing the other vine beast, this time aiming for the vines. That seemed more effective than head shots, as the final severing the death of one. The burning sensation that popped up on part of the doctors tail was a good reminder that she should have kept focus on both.

Safe to safe a fire ball had hit Harakas tail. While it thankfully did not stun her, it did cause emotions of great upset. Being half ice dragon, the woman had never been a fan of getting burned. On the other hand someone didn't need to be an ice creature to dislike pain as a whole. In any case, the womans blade moved to strike the pumpkin vine beasts face before striking at its vines. When the creature retaliated by trying to bite her? The west fiore trading company guild member side stepped before just attacking its head until it stopped moving. It probably wasn't the wisest strategy, but thinking things through a lot was for her more mellow minded male side. Her current deepest thought at that time had simply been stabbing it in the face until it stopped attacking her with it.

Post by Victoria Sheridan 10th January 2019, 8:50 pm

Victoria got to her feet while Haraka did his thing, quickly engaging the two remaining pumpkin vine creatures with magic and with weapon. The brunette decided to select a different weapon since Haraka was now in the line of fire and an errant round of buckshot could hit him. She brought out her sniper rifle since it fired only one shot, minimizing the chance that he could get hit unless he jumped in front of the shot. It was then that Victoria realized that her job partner had the other two under control... her biggest priority was to wear down the big bipedal pumpkin that was until recently thundering towards them with murder on its mind.

Its approach had been delayed by vines that Haraka had set up and now she had a window of opportunity to hammer it without fear of reprisal. She had better make use of the chance while it was there because Haraka was now engaged with the last two pumpkin vine creatures. Victoria aimed for its face and fired a Kinetic Shot. The creature staggered from the impact and sprayed some orange goo from its face, but otherwise it kept fighting against the vines that were slowing it down. Hitting such a large enemy was easy, but doing enough damage to take it out of the fight would be a lot harder.

If Victoria did not care for collateral damage, she could call upon her Rocket Launcher, fire a Bunker Buster or two at the pumpkin, and be done with it. However, chunks of flaming pumpkin raining down would likely ignite the field and ruin the livelihood of the villagers, to say nothing of the fire's ability to ruin the village itself. The whole point of this mission was to protect the village and leave it reasonably intact. Victoria would simply have to do without her Rocket Launcher this mission.

She aimed and fired another Kinetic Shot at its face, punching another hole in it and making it stagger again without doing too much damage. It renewed the attack with the same dynamic energy that it had used to advance on the mages. It was then that the brunette had an idea. If she damaged its legs, maybe she could slow it down when it finally broke through the vines Haraka used to stall it. The mage changed her aim from its body to its legs to act on her theory.

The brunette carefully aimed at a leg and fired a Kinetic Shot, making orange goo spray out and causing it to momentarily kneel. That seemed to affect it. Now she knew where to aim, but the question was whether she would have enough time to really hurt it before it reached them. She would keep shooting anyway.

Victoria aimed another shot and fired, momentarily dropping it to one knee before it stood up again. She dispelled her sniper rifle and aimed a Hand Cannon, firing at the creature's leg and making it flinch. The leg had taken three shots and was still working, but each hit on the limb seemed to make it go just a little bit slower. Hopefully it would be enough to make a difference.

"How are you doing, Haraka?" Victoria asked her job partner.

It was safe to say that the pumpkin vine creatures were officially dead. Fate didn't leave her with time to think over what had just happened, the huge one was still alive. How was she doing? That could be answered in a minute, for the vines seemed no longer able to slow the best down. The shot wounds at least seemed to keep it from just running over. Her mouth and lungs started to fill with air, the half demon taking in as much as possible before the inevitable release. Snow and ice started to pour from her mouth, coating the the goliath in it. The vines didn't stop their assault, despite the chill of the attack that had just struck. The snow and ice were all things that could melt pretty easily over time, so it wouldn't do any damage to any of the crops. This long range spell served a purpose to do some damage and keep the beast as slowed down as possible. It really did look like it could rip either of them in half. If there was one thing the young looking woman had learned since joining the guild was her stubbornness didn't keep the woman from running up to giant things that looked capable of snapping her in two. Omaras thus decided to rush over to the monster instead of taking the risk of it surviving long enough to reach the two. Shoes pushed against the ground, eyes focused on the goal at hand. There was no going back, only pushing forward.

Twin ice blades were swung repetitively, hitting the hardy body repetitively. If there was something she desired right now, it was to not die or get hurt. In order for that to become a reality, this thing needed to perish as quickly as possible. There was no time to do or think on anything else, not yet. Still, if either of them were trying to avoid farm damage? The fall of that beast certainly did a little. Was it the vines, the gunshots, the snow, or the blades? Most of the damage had likely been from the gunshots. More than likely it was killed by a mix of all of the above. That thing had almost been like a wall with mobility. A smile spread across her lips before the mixed blood begun to run back to her partner. For one it was best to stick together in a place where there were house destroying sized cursed pumpkins. Two? It felt like they would get more done together, even if both were more than capable people on their own. Still, it felt nice to be part of taking down a mountain of a being. Haraka stopped next to Victoria, still feeling a bit of joy from that thing being gone.
"I feel like this job would have been impossible to do alone. You were pretty impressive, i think that was the most minimal amount of property damage." Her head briefly looked back at the massive beast. It was too big to have broken into bits small enough to not do damage, but at the least it hadn't destroyed any buildings. Well, none the woman had seen.

Part of her wanted a short break already, but this wasn't the type of job where that would have been appropriate. Another issue with the concept of taking a break right now was...
"I think the sound of that giants fall attracted more company."

Pumpkin Hunt Empty Re: Pumpkin Hunt

Post by Victoria Sheridan 20th January 2019, 2:27 pm

"Yeah, I couldn't have done this job alone either. You're pretty good yourself." Victoria admitted to Haraka, the mage who had just felled the giant pumpkin beast with two blade of ice and made it look so easy. Of course the Sabertooth mage had pumped quite a few rounds of magic gunfire into the giant target, but Haraka was the one to kill it once and for all. At this point it did not matter who ended its unnatural life. All that mattered was that the beast had been defeated before it could do too much damage to the fields or to the village itself.

"I hate that its falling ruined some of the crops, but when put up against the welfare of an entire village full of people, I'd say we got a pretty cheap win over it. Crops can grow back. People can't." Victoria said to Haraka, trying not to sound too insensitive about what just happened. She hated to sound insensitive to the plight of the farmer who just took a financial hit from the giant pumpkin beast flattening some of his crops, but the two mages had to weigh the survival of a village full of people against the crops of one person. A village full of people won out against a farmer's crops almost every single time.

Victoria had just taken a breath when she spotted more trouble snaking its way through the remaining crops, which served as an excellent early warning system for the mages. The brunette took another breath and exhaled. It was go time.

"Looks like you're right, Haraka. Look alive!" Victoria warned her job partner, who likely did not need any warning. The blue-haired mage had not made it this far by being a clueless mage, and neither had Victoria. The brunette had last this long due to being alert, being aggressive, and having a heaping dose of luck on her side. It was largely due to luck that she had escaped the basement of the Corlone mansion without being recaptured or discovered and killed by the organized crime soldiers. They had very good reasons for not letting her live, namely that if she ever told law enforcement of what had happened in the basement, the Corlones could get into deep trouble for kidnapping her.

Victoria called out her shotgun and waited until a vine monster popped up to try and take a bite out of the brunette. She stepped to the side and countered with a burst of Big Shot, which tore nickel-sized holes in the side of its face and made it recoil. She fired a round of normal buckshot that tore more holes in it and made it back off for a moment before seeming to disappear. Victoria watched the movement of the crops and waited for it to emerge; she did not have to wait long because it popped up in her face!

Victoria screamed and fell backwards, dropping her weapon again. The panicking brunette formed her fingers into a gun and fired a Hand Cannon, hitting the pumpkin vine squarely in the face as it rocketed towards her. She rolled out of the way just in time to avoid getting flattened or eaten by the pumpkin's lunge. She stood up and faced the next enemy, which was closing in fast.

"We've got another one coming!" Victoria warned Haraka, dispelling her shotgun and bringing it back out to prepare for the next attack.

The West Fiore Trading Company member was glad that she thought of Victoria when it came to taking this job on. "Thank you." Though the other female had a point on the crops, the half demon couldn't help but to feel a bit bad. Property damage could be bad, but it was worse for those who didn't have luxuries. Farmers typically worked to the bone until they could no longer move enough to work. Retirement was less achievable for those who lacked much money. Was there something she could do? Maybe. Would Omaras spirit friends help? When mentally poked, they seemed agreeable enough with the suggestion. It felt a bit like it needed to be asked since this was less helping to get a job done, less about getting what you needed to do done. It was just the ice blue skinned person wanting to leave as little damage to the farmers lives as possible. Who knows how much damage and money the curse had already cost these poor people? "My plant friends agreed to help me fix the damage made, so long as we keep it to crops."

They couldn't help him with buildings or fences, even wooden ones. Even barns used a little metal, like the nails that held in the wooden planks. his way, neither of them had to feel bad about the damage done. Also? Neither would feel as much of an obligation to avoid doing damage. Well, as long as neither did anything to create fire. Such a thing would be hard to contain in general. He could put out fires, sure, but he didn't like the idea of running around in order to put it out fast enough. All a fire needed was a good wind to make it spread like a rampant plague. But neither of them would be that careless. The smaller pumpkin beasts from earlier could spit fire though, so a fire might end up needing to be fought regardless. She just silently hoped that nothing bigger than the small fireballs would occur, as those were easy to prevent with damage and could easily just not hit anything. If there was anything good about fighting in a large flammable field, it was how easily the surrounding plant life would make sounds.

Of course the comment from Victoria only made her more aware, dark sapphire blue eyes looking about, her white draconian slit pupils starting to focus before their tall body moved into action. The job partner had taken care of the more deadly looking pumpkins of the newest attack, so Haraka decided to charge at the strange canine like ones. Honestly the night of no light made her far too well adjusted but also aggravated at the sight of a canine like pumpkin beast, so charging at a pack was more than alright. Her attacks involved the same pair of ice blades, attacking one before noticing another of the small group was getting ready for a side attack. A large amount of ice gathered around one of her arms before giving a strong ice punch to it. After that? She sliced the other one up with her two ice white khopesh, only pausing when bitten by the third that had not yet been addressed. The half ice dragon was still not a fan of pain. She growled loudly, finishing the first off before going for the third, aggressively and quickly slicing it up.

When the second one was back on its feet, the third one was already down. The final one remaining wasn't treated any kinder than the other two. The woman jumped, using her tail to get a good momentum and aim to catapult her towards her target at a faster rate. The weapons easily broke through the cursed squashes body, these weren't exactly as hardy as the other enemies they had faced on the job so far. Fast, sure, but the vines were faster. Still, it didn't mean the one bite didn't hurt. The sensation of the beasts maws wasn't an experience she wanted repeated. This only fueled the mages determination, a cold rage remaining unmoved until the final pumpkin hound was down. It was only in it's death that her temperament begun to warm back up.
"Do all the cursed abominations here bite?"

The Blood of death kept me breathing. From that fluid birthed a new rhythm.

Pumpkin Hunt Empty Re: Pumpkin Hunt

Post by Victoria Sheridan 2nd February 2019, 12:06 pm

"Yeah, a lot of stuff in the Cursed Lands tries to bite people." Victoria answered Haraka's question about the tendency of the region's denizens to try and take a bite out of visitors. The Sabertooth mage had taken a few jobs in this region before this one, so she could speak with the type of authority that derived from experience. She had not been bitten by any of them, but she knew that they were fully capable of doing so if given half a chance.

"Let's see. There's zombies, werewolves, vampires, giant pumpkin creatures, and normal wolves. They all try to take a bite out of you. There's also skeletons, necromancers, ghosts, but they don't bite. Yet." Victoria listed off the enemies that bit and the enemies that did not. She had encountered those strange enemies outside of Sakuramori during the Night of Eternal Darkness incident, but they were not normal parts of Earthland's fauna. The creatures she listed were all common threats in this part of Earthland. She had encountered zombies, skeletons, and necromancers in Silent Cemetery and ghosts and zombies inside the Haunted Guild. She had encountered werewolves in the woods of the Cursed Lands during the militia's retreat to Holy Castle.

"It's safe to say that you don't want to get bitten by anything around here. Zombies can turn you into one of them, but it takes almost a full day for the change to happen. So can werewolves, but the ones around here tend to tear their human prey apart instead of trying to infect people with lycanthropy. Vampires can turn you into one of them too, but they're more selective about who they turn. Not that I would really know because I haven't fought vampires yet. I just read parts of Sam Broker's book Draahcul when I was younger." Victoria informed Haraka. A fictional book was not ordinarily a good source of information on the real world, but it was all the brunette had to go on. She had not run into vampires yet and part of her hoped that she would not run into any because she did not know if her magic firepower would save her from them. Victoria had a Silver Dagger, but she would have to get dangerously close to the vampire in order to use it. She was not even sure if silver hurt them like it did werewolves and ghosts.

"I don't know what the bite of those giant pumpkins can do. This is the first time I've ever encountered them." Victoria added. Giant pumpkins were far outside the norm of what the Sabertooth mage dealt with. She was used to dealing with bandits, shambling corpses, and ornery wildlife, but she supposed that giant pumpkins passed for ornery wildlife around these parts. The brunette did not envy anyone who voluntarily lived in this region. She sympathized with them because of the diverse dangers they faced; the enemies out here made the gangs of Capital Crocus' streets look tame in comparison.

"If you need medical help, I have some healing spells that I can use to keep you on your feet until we get to medical attention." Victoria offered to Haraka. While they were not able to treat every malady and were no substitute for proper medical attention, her Combat Medic spells could keep the mages going until they could get back to civilization. Some healing magic was always better than no healing magic.

The deep sapphire blue eyed person didn't expect Victoria to start talking about the cursed lands in such a way. Part of her knew the other likely didn't mean all vampires or all werewolves, but the other part reminded that those two had also been grouped in with zombies. It was true that those could bite, but there was of course the reason why some are mentioned more than others. To most, a bite from certain creatures could cause infection, though it didn't mean they were more likely to bite. It did make the bites more dangerous to many. So the woman thought, figuring a way to try to kill two birds with one stone. But first? The mixed blood looked around a bit for enemies. None were near? It seemed so. "My demon half is type of infection I was born with. A disease would spread around the areas where a person lost control of their person, demonic infections and possessions would also increase.
Things like a zombie bite just gives me a horrible stomach bug and a dirty wound if left untreated." It didn't means he was immune to sickness, but it was a pretty different sort of worry. Also, very not immune to things like getting drained of all blood. Okay, vampires were a lot more likely to bite people since that was needed to live. Omaras took in a quick deep breath, it was still true that the critters mouth hadn't been clean. Thinking it would be better to deal with it now rather than risking temporary sickness. Ice shards gathered around her mouth. With one hand moved in front of her person, the half ice dragon shot it at herself. It changed into a flower shaped snowflake, even looking as if it would be as soft as it would be cold to the touch.

This would keep out any impurities not created by a spell. Spell related ones needed a spell that takes quite a bit longer. The ice destroyed the impurity, while that other spell only removed it, giving the chance to store it if one so wished.
"My father figure was a werewolf and a summoner. My wind spirit was once his strongest summon, before he was forced to give up Wind my my great aunt for courting a low rank. He willingly became a no rank, in our culture that was someone who was once well ranked who lost everything, but is still regulated by rules of their old rank." Loosing everything meant everything. Wealth, honor, job, belongings, and his greatest summon. That said summon was like a brother to him, even when the contract was forced apart. Wind never forgave the action, Haraka knew that the parental figure held negative views and feelings towards his great aunt. Bringing that mess up wouldn't solve anything though, nor would it explain anything outside of an elemental with bitter emotions.
"He taught me me the basics of tracking and I built more on that after his passing."
The man had been mentioned previously, namelessly to Victoria. Did it give a better idea of who he was? Maybe, maybe not. Someone being forced between a rock and a hard place, wind being upset that the choice had to be made, but both had also said they would have both been more upset if such an opportunity was dropped. Never being allowed to wed the woman he wanted to. Talking of tracking, them not getting attacked didn't mean they should just stand there and wait.

The West Fiore Trading Company guild member started looking at the ground carefully, but there weren't any signs of where they had gone, or were. This made sense, so she sniffed the air before deciding to lean on a new tactic. The scents within the wind gave a good idea of the direction that was best to go in next.
"He wasn't able to spread his lycanthropy. Anyway, thank you for worrying. The ice spell I cast will keep everything out so long as it lasts. Whatever may or may not be in the spit is nothing to loose sleep over. I'm not as amazing of a doctor as my mother, but I'll treat anything on anyone that I can. Anyway, not seeing more enemies rushing over has me a bit worried, I'd like to keep moving to make sure they aren't up to anything." A finger with a long shimmering blue aquamarine talon moved before pointing in a direction.  Was it aiming at just another crop, or at the fields deeper in that once held pumpkins?
"Their smell is  in that direction, its probably going to lead us closer to it's origins." Still, there was a thought. "You sound to have gone in these lands for work more than this once with that amount of knowledge. What other jobs did you do? Honestly, I don't even know if I ever met a vampire before, never fought one. The only time I met the violent sort of undead was avoiding them, since I couldn't use magic at the time." Zombie and vampire just didn't feel like it covered all the categories of the walking dead. At the same time? Like many things and people, non friendly ones seemed like they would be dangerous. There were a few times as a bartender where the young looking woman heard of people being drained of all blood. With how uncommon that was though? Seemed less like all ones did it and more like only a rebellious few would kill like that. But, Haraka also knew she could be very wrong.

The Blood of death kept me breathing. From that fluid birthed a new rhythm.

Pumpkin Hunt Empty Re: Pumpkin Hunt

Post by Victoria Sheridan 9th February 2019, 9:18 pm

Victoria listened to Haraka as they described everything his father figure had went through to dat, including giving up his high rank in society to become a "No Rank." She could not imagine any of her Capital Crocus tormentors voluntarily relinquishing their rank for anything, not even love. They persisted in loveless marriages in order to acquire money and property for themselves, if not for their heirs. Victoria did not get very many chances to rub elbows in high society and really did not want to. She was not very keen on associating with people who wanted her dead just because she was born poor.

Even getting a father figure in the person of Lawrence Sheridan did nothing to raise her image in the eyes of Capital Crocus' people, so the pair left the capital behind and settled in some hole-in-the-wall village where she could be educated and trained in magic without judgment. Lawrence was an ex-soldier and mercenary who went wherever the money was and constantly looked for action, which did not make him the best father figure. Still, Victoria did not care too much because she was glad to have someone who cared about her enough to teach her magic so that she could defend herself in the future. Lawrence also put her in touch with someone who taught her the bartending trade so that she could make enough money to feed herself without having to resort to stealing food or scavenging from trash cans.

Victoria listened to Haraka describe how zombie and werewolf bites were a mild inconvenience thanks to their mixed heritage. She tended to meet a lot of interesting mages over the course of her work, and not all of them were "pure" human... or even human at all. She had met Izayuki, Astrid Foss the cyclopean elf, Seth Augusta the healer, Itazura, Saraphina Zima, Masha Dymonrel, Imai, and Ryo the red-coated... something. It did not matter what they were. As long as they treated her right and had her back in a pinch, she would work with any Legal or Neutral mage.

"I'm just a normal human who happens to have a particular set of skills. My adopted father taught me magic that enables me to punch far above my weight class. A friend of my father's taught me healing magic that can keep me or job partners going in tough spots. Those are both good things because I tend to end up in harm's way a lot." Victoria commented on her pure human lineage to Haraka. She did not have any super-special ancestors that she knew of, but she did not need them. She had gotten by just fine without them and would continue to do so because the brunette was determined to make her own way in the world. All she needed was her magic, a few good job partners, and plenty of luck to keep making her way as a mage.

"So your father figure was a tracker too, huh?" Victoria asked Haraka.

"My father figure was an ex-soldier. He taught me everything he could about his magic. It's saved my life more times than I can count." Victoria said to him. It saved her life against the crooked cops in Hargeon Police Department, against the heavily armed crime syndicate in a private airport in Rose Garden, against those strange creatures during the Night of Eternal Darkness, and against the demon lord Zupazu underneath Hargeon Town. Being able to summon weapons that let a twiggy girl like her take on fully grown men and demon lords was an asset because the element of surprise was often as effective as the weapons themselves. Most people did not expect her to be able to summon a shotgun or rocket launcher at will nor be able to fire magic projectiles from her fingertips. Merces Letifer was a case of the magic being suited to its user.

Victoria then recalled Haraka asking about her job experience in the Cursed Lands. She could not answer very many questions about her family, but she could certainly discuss the Cursed Lands with authority. She had taken three major jobs in the region and this would be her fourth.

"I've had quite a bit of experience doing jobs in the Cursed Lands, Haraka. I've taken three jobs here before this one. I've fought zombies, skeletons, necromancers, ghosts, and even werewolves. I've been to the Haunted Guild twice and Silent Cemetery once. You've gotta be careful out here, especially when you work alone like I do." Victoria said to the West Fiore Trading Company with authority gained by firsthand experience. She had been through her share of close calls and scrapes with disaster. She had gotten through her first job at the Haunted Guild with the help of that Haruyuki guy and Zhuu. The second job at the Haunted Guild was completed with the help of Serena Anderson, the cleric from the Order of Lightbringers that she was hired to rescue. She had also gotten help from a homeless militia that had patrolled the region; they gave her and Serena a ride out on their way to Holy Castle, the Order's headquarters.

Victoria was about to talk more when she heard that Haraka did not want to hang around while more of those creatures were still lurking somewhere in the area. Her job partner wanted to hunt them down and destroy them while there was still time. The brunette did not blame Haraka... they were not getting paid to socialize while the village and its residents were in danger.

"You're right, Haraka. We can talk later. Let's go hunt the rest of those pumpkin things. Lead the way and I'll follow." Victoria requested of her job partner. She was ready to put an end to the evil vegetables. With Haraka's help the brunette would complete the job.

The West Fiore Trading Company member listened to Victoria speak of her own paternal parental figure. The battle skills the womans father figure had taught her sounded very useful. Then again, it wasn't that surprising of a skill to come from a person that had relied on strength in battle so much. It was easy to imagine that being handy in more than just missions. Life can quickly become dangerous and sometimes require different steps and skills in order to avoid such confrontations. A friend of her father was the one that had some hand in teaching the human healing magic? It was mildly surprising, but not by much. The doctor already knew that magic wasn't viewed as anything intimate by the other person. She wasn't the only one with this view, nor the only one taught by non family. Still, it had sounded so much like hew views had been that of magic being a tool that a family friend was certainly closer than expected. "An ex soldier?" There were many things The mixed blood could wonder or ask, but most seemed very lack luster. When it came to asking about another persons family members, it was better to not poke with anything that seems obvious, silly, or the like. Saying that he must have cared was one example of the obvious. Adopted family aren't like blood family, they are the ones that normally willing pick you. Of those that pick for selfish reasons, those ones tend to not get spoken of in fond ways. "Sorry, I was just thinking out loud." The young looking woman spoke before starting to move along. Her feet moved quickly and carefully along the field as she followed the tracked trail.

"Humans are creatures born for adaptability. You're part of a very amazing race. A magic that enables you to punch above your weight class sounds super useful when it comes to battle. What other things did he teach you?" There was a want to know more about Victoria, especially after the other had been so willing to listen of aquatic persons own personal things. It also sounded interesting, just the thought that both had father figures that had been involved with a military at some point. The farmlands looked very nice. It was too bad they didn't have any time to stop for a bit, relax and look around. The way things zoomed passed looked nice as well at least, almost like a moving oil painting. The darkness gave the surroundings its own sort of charm, the only illumination within the area being from within her own body. The dim glow that could reach far within a night cast in inky shadows. This land certainly had its own charm, she was glad that they were both working to protect it. Something spoken had caught the half demon a bit by surprise, the light from her body brightening briefly to reflect this emotion. The sabertooth guild members comment caught the pale ice blue skinned woman off a bit. This was enough to cause her to still from tracking for a moment. It wasn't something Haraka had really thought about, but now that was out in the open as well as within her mind. Slender eyes widened, if only for a brief time, tail curling and uncurling. For a moment there were thoughts of a thick haired man speaking in a loving gentle tone. Words spoken by that man were simple and easy to understand. A good teacher.

It was a voice that had only existed as a memory for so many years now, likely would remain as such. When a person goes to the eternal slumber, it was best to not wake. It was one thing to know they both tracked, but it was another thing to think they tracked like each other. This wasn't something that had been put into consideration before, as KiingowilKaldaka had only lived long enough to teach her the basics and make it very fun. It had also happened so long ago, when the mixed blood was still a small child. Each time a lesson was given, it was to get something to use. Sometimes it was the best way to find a certain plant or insect, other times it was about tracking animals. These memories were the roots of all her tracking skills. That was true, no matter how much they had been built on after that point.
"I... guess so. Thank you... That's right, everything learned after his death still had that foundation he laid." These thoughts brought warmth, the scents of a forest she could never return to. The lessons within that forest and the endless fields of snow was something the doctor never wanted to let go of. These precious and warm memories of a land lost to the bottom of the sea. Her long pointed ears focused on Victorias words when she started speaking of her past work experiences within the cursed lands. This was the reminder that there was a need to move again. In any case, the half demon started running again. It was important to keep on the hunt, tracking was the only good way of finding enemies that don't come out in the open immediately. The only downside was that it meant they were going towards the enemies.

This meant there would likely be far more than before, making it more likely for either of them to sustain an injury. Skeletons, ghosts, and necromancers? Well, it isn't called the cursed lands without reason. The crustacean wasn't all that pleased on the idea of the dead not in rest, but this was not a thing that she could stop from happening. Maybe she would take more jobs in the cursed land in the future to help, or jobs in other places would catch her eyes instead. Only time would tell.
"I'll keep you in mind if I end up taking more jobs in the cursed land at the future." Omaras couldn't promise she would see other job listings for the cursed lands, doing so wouldn't make sense. But if the woman saw one that she ended up taking? It seemed natural to consider the person that had experience doing these sort of jobs. But of course it was around this time that the land was starting to look and smell like they were getting closer to a group of the cursed beings... Should she say something? Maybe not, they both knew the reason their feed fled towards a certain direction. This was a rush towards danger and battle....

"Yeah. My adopted father's an ex-soldier who came here from far away. He taught me the magic because as you can see, I'm kinda twiggy and far from the strongest person in Earthland. But with the magic I use, I don't have to be physically strong to hand someone their ass." Victoria replied to Haraka with no small measure of confidence. Her magic was not the strongest in Earthland and she was not the most physically adept fighter, but with Merces Letifer magic she did not have to be the strongest or most physically adept mage to hold her own in a fight. She had an array of magic weapons that let her punch far above her weight class and gave her some measure of crowd control as well as the means to dispatch individual opponents. However, most of her weapons were not very stealthy except for the Silenced Sniper Rifle. All in all Merces Letifer was a case of a magic being suited to its user; Victoria was at her best when subtlety was not a consideration.

"A friend of my father's taught me Combat Medic magic. As the name implies, it lets me heal myself and others so that I can do more than sling lead downrange. It suits me because I tend to get hurt a lot and can't exactly drop in at the local hospital in the Cursed Lands or in other wilderness settings." Victoria said to Haraka. Again Combat Medic was a case of a magic being suited to its user. Victoria used it to heal herself enough to see out of her swollen left eye after the last clash with the Corlones in the sewers of Rose Garden. She also used its less-than-lethal weaponry to avoid killing Corlones and thus avoid legal trouble during her quest to free the captives the crime family took with the intention of selling them to slavers for quick cash. While no one would have lost much sleep over the criminals being turned into Swiss cheese, Sabertooth did things the legal way.

In the end doing things the legal way worked out for Victoria because the Corlones collapsed thanks to the overwhelming evidence of their illicit dealings she had taken from an accountant in the sewer. Their top lieutenants were getting arrested left and right, their properties were getting seized, and Francesca Corlone herself had gone on the run to avoid arrest. Their hold over Rose Garden had been permanently broken and the family was unlikely to return to power any day soon. That outcome was a lot better than what would have happened if the Sabertooth mage had settled for storming their mansion and turning it into the set of an action movie. She would have most likely been arrested and the Corlones able to play the victim to turn the press against Sabertooth in general and Victoria in particular.

Victoria was amused when she heard Haraka remark that humans were adaptable. She was even more amused when Haraka asked what else Lawrence Sheridan had taught her. She did not even know where to begin.

"He taught me that the most valuable skill one could have was knowing how to fight." Victoria began her explanation.

"He said that if you knew how to fight, you wouldn't have to look very hard for work. With so many bandits and two-bit dark mages running around, you'd better be able to defend yourself. And if you can't defend yourself, it's good to know someone willing to fight for you." Victoria summarized one of the many lessons that Lawrence Sheridan had taught her. It was not a family-friendly lesson, but it was an unfortunate truth of the world she lived in. Far too many people thought that might made right and used that as an excuse to do whatever they wanted without consequence. As a Legal mage, it was Victoria's job to make sure that there were consequences for beating up on the homeless or other people who could not defend themselves from the aggression of others. Lawrence had been proven right because Victoria was getting hired to protect others and getting hired to deal with bandits who thought that robbing the client was a good idea.

Victoria was about to explain further when she spotted more evil pumpkin beasts lumbering their way. The mages were about to face off against six of the pumpkin dogs, four of the pumpkin vine things, and the towering pumpkin beast that took a lot of time and effort to kill. Victoria brought out her Light Machine Gun and began to open fire on the pumpkin hounds, turning one to pumpkin bits with a Five-Round Burst as the other five continued to run towards them. She fired another Five-Round Burst and killed another before the remaining four closed in and began to menace her and Haraka.

The brunette was not fazed and simply aimed at the nearest hound, firing a Five-Round Burst into its head and turning it to pumpkin bits oozing orange goo. The remaining three lunged for her at once. She spun around the first one and jumped back to avoid the second, then jumped over the third, landed on her feet, and fired a Derringer shot into its back, making small chunks of pumpkin leap off of its back. It yelped in pain and immediately spun around for another attempt at pouncing on her. She could not bring her LMG up in time before it pounced and knocked the weapon out of her hand with its body.

One of its packmates seized the weapon by the barrel and hauled it deeper into the field to keep the mage from getting it back. Victoria was surprised by its intelligence, but the gesture was in vain because she could simply dispel it and have it ready to go again in moments. She would not have the time to do so because the hounds were pressuring her with repeated attacks. Victoria aimed a Hand Cannon at the wounded pumpkin hound's body and fired, tearing out more chunks of pumpkin and making it yelp. One of its packmates pounced onto the back of her armor and knocked her to the ground, leaving her vulnerable to their attacks.

"I need some help!" Victoria called out to Haraka.

The night was beautiful, the shadows adding a bit of mystery to the landscape. The fields were most of the scenery, few buildings dotting along. This was how farms were, needing buildings for storage and a home, but besides that? It took a lot of space to make not so much money in growing crops. Some of those spaces would be filled with normal seasonal crops, others with plants and crops that would restore the health of the soil. It would be nice if the two of them could sit and talk again. That thought floated through her mind as the ice blue skinned person felt a want to ask more about the job partner. It would be nice to cook something for the two of them, sit somewhere, talk, and get to know her better. At this point he had told her more about himself than likely anyone in his own guild, despite how few times the two had met up. But now was a bit different. Now they had a lot of cursed plant life to deal with. At to be expected, the number they had to fight was far greater than before. Why? Because the cursed beasts stopped falling for the bait, causing the two to track them down. That was certainly a disadvantage, but not one she would run for. There was a call, a reminder from the other of the situation they were both currently in. A hound had already been taken down, but what was the number one issue with most of these beasts? Speed, it was speed. They were fast. "I'll restore the crops after the missions over!" That was her call and vow before coating the ground in a th8in layer of ice, then snow. While it didn't put any of them to sleep, solstice slumber would still slow them down by a great deal.

Since her last pear of weapons had already melted, a new pair of ice khopesh were crafted, white ice in each palm forming into blades. By then Victoria had already killed more of the hounds, leaving three remaining. The woman ran aggressively over, blades slashing at the one who had pounced the woman. She felt a head of flames as soon as it was dead, something that faded thanks to the healing spell currently on her person. Of course it was those vine beasts, but at least it was only two? So the woman growled a bit under her breath, her person quickly flipping, hands against the snow and feet in the air. With slight angling and a quick electrical charge, she swung her tail at one of the surviving hounds. It, having already been wounded by Victoria, was very much dead at this point. With another flip she was back on her feet and heading for the viney fire spitting jerks. At the least, it seemed they were having more trouble moving in the cold. She started slashing at their vines as soon as they were in reach. At least the next fireball that came Omaras saw coming, moving out of the way. After that? She finished off the one before moving towards the other. This similar pattern continued until each vine beast was gone. The only thing left was one hound, and goliath... that was, until more arrived.

The Blood of death kept me breathing. From that fluid birthed a new rhythm.

Post by Victoria Sheridan 10th March 2019, 6:37 pm

"Thanks Haraka." Victoria thanked the other mage for coming to her rescue right when she needed it the most. Those pumpkin hounds had gotten way too close for comfort and were about to sink their teeth into her when the West Fiore Trading Company mage intervened and got rid of them with his blades made of ice. Victoria climbed to her feet and brought out her Light Machine Gun again, ensuring that she would be ready to face the next wave of enemies. She heard howling in the distance and knew that company would not be too far off. It was time to fend off more of the pumpkin hounds,

"We've got more of them coming in, Haraka!" Victoria warned her colleague. She counted nine pumpkin hounds, ten of those vine creatures that kept popping up and shooting fireballs, and two more of those bulky bipedal pumpkins. She had better get shooting before they all showed up at once. He first priority was eliminating those pumpkin hounds since they were the fastest threats and could distract the mages at the wrong time if they got too close.

Victoria hefted her Light Machine Gun to her shoulder and aimed at the first pumpkin hound. She fired a Five-Round Burst to the head and brought it down. She repeated the process two more times until she had eliminated the first batch of three. Victoria aimed at the first pumpkin hound of the next group, which had reached the hallway point of the field. She fired a Five-Round Burst and brought down one with shots to the head and torso, then killed another one in the same fashion and killed the third with a Five-Round Burst to the head.

With the destruction of the second batch, there was one more batch of them to go before she could focus on the more numerous but slower pumpkin vines. The third batch had crossed the three-quarters mark in the field, so she had to get rid of them fast. She aimed at the first and used a Five-Round Burst to the head to stop the first of the three, then turned on the second and fired another Five-Round Burst to the torso that brought it down. The last one was killed with a Five-Round Burst to the head that made it fall and tumble to a stop just five feet away from Victoria's shoes.

Now that the fast-moving pumpkin hounds were defeated, she could now focus on the pumpkin vines. Two of them popped up a short distance away and were about to spew fireballs. She reacted and fired at the first on full-auto, hitting it in the head several times and making it flop backwards so hard that it almost broke its vine. The second one managed to fire a flaming ball at her, which she blocked with a Caduceus Shield. The golden shield blocked the projectile and made it dissipate in a shower of sparks which quickly fizzled out in mid-air.

Victoria dropped the shield and spotted another pumpkin vine aiming at her, so she took the initiative and fired on full-auto until it dropped with multiple wounds to the head and a few to the right of the section of vine that functioned like its neck. It fell forward with a THUD and the third opened its mouth to fire. Victoria reacted by firing a Five-Round Burst that hit it in the roof of the mouth and made it fire its projectile harmlessly into the air as its head snapped back. She then fired another burst into its forehead that killed it and watched as it collapsed to the dirt on top of its predecessor. Three of the ten pumpkin vines were dead, but seven of them were still active, as were the three giant bipedal pumpkins.

Another pumpkin vine popped up close to her and leaned down to take a bite out of her skull. She shrieked and jumped back, then fired on full-auto until she sheared its head from the vine. The pumpkin head fell to the ground and began to snap its jaws in her direction until she fired again and turned it into a mass of orange goo with a hail of bullets. A fifth chose that time to emerge from the ground, then suddenly lunge and seize her by the Bandolier draped across her left shoulder. She was hoisted into the air when it lifted itself straight and kicked her feet while trying to aim at it and free herself.

She fired from the hip and managed to graze its face with a few shots, forcing it to drop the mage to the dirt as it writhed about after receiving its facial wounds. Victoria landed on her back and yelled in pain, then forced herself up to finish it off. A little over two dozen rounds later and the bullet-riddled pumpkin collapsed in defeat. That was five of the ten pumpkin beasts that had been killed. The remaining pumpkin vines retreated for a moment as a giant bipedal pumpkin stomped forward to challenge her to battle.

Victoria aimed at its face and fired on full-auto. It was so big and so close that it was impossible to miss. It staggered backwards under the hail of bullets that chipped away at its face and the arms it raised in defense. It eventually took too much damage under the endless hail of bullets to stay on its feet and fell backwards, hitting the ground with a loud THUD. Victoria had to pause and let the barrel of the LMG cool off before she could continue using it.

"We've got five more of the pumpkin vines and two more of those giant walking pumpkins to deal with!" She informed Haraka as the barrel of her weapon began to cool down.

A good question might be to ask which enemy to deal with next. The area was still under a snow that kept the enemies slowed down, but it didn't change that the threat was still very much a thing. She should have kept trying to lure the enemies to them instead of tracking the cursed creatures down. That would have made things easier to deal with. Then again, the length would have also given the creatures longer to cause havoc. That thought caused all doubts to rush away, her feet pulling her towards the next target. "We might be close to the source!" It was a thought spoken aloud. This was a curse, right? They had killed many, yet there was a number still left. The mixed blood hoped they wouldn't get overwhelmed. The only way to avoid that happening was to go forward and do your best. This was why the woman didn't even take enough time to start on calming breaths. The pumpkins vines were all horrible little jerks, but at this point she was positive that Victoria could handle them. What made the hounds a bit tricky seemed to be teamwork. The vines were quick fire breathing jerks, but Victoria seemed to have a good reaction time. Without the level of teamwork the hounds seemed to have, it seemed less likely that the mindless attackers would trap the human. The illumination from Omaras form increased as the West Fiore Trading Company member ran towards the two pumpkin like behemoths. Why had her light become a bit brighter? It was an increase in her emotions. The light from their body always responded to emotions, increasing in brightness with stronger emotions. What emotion was so strong?

It was a varied mix. There was a joy from battle, the annoyance from enemies popping up, and a strong amount of blind stubbornness and determination. The half demon had a certain joy and urge for violence that only appeared while she was a woman. The cold covering the ground didn't slow her in the slightest, her white slit pupils focused on one goal. The ice blue skinned woman decided to start to charge towards the direction by the behemoths, a fire ball flying past her face. That was all it took to cause her to look at one of the vine creatures, rationality briefly lost to anger. All plans were lost to the dashes towards the far to temperamental vine beasts. It was almost like fate that a person who was half of a deep sea creature and half ice dragon would end up having the most conflict from the one that spit fire balls. Those seemed to be the ones that attacked her the most and hit her the most. When it comes to hot and cold it seemed conflict was far too natural of a thing. The conflict had been inevitable, Omaras certainly didn't wait to rush the attacker with white colored ice khopeshes. The cold blades cut against the viney section of the creatures body multiple times until the time which it's life ceased. She flipped herself onto her hands briefly, using their powerful tail to deliver a tail slap to its face. Deciding to do that again, the tail quickly became coated in ice before coming down onto the vine. The woman finished rolling, attacking it as soon as she was back on her feet. It didn't take many cuts for that vine beast to go down.

There were two more pumpkin vine things left, but Harakas anger had ebbed away. This left the woman with her original goal to attack the behemoth sized pumpkins. This time when the young looking woman sped off with the intent to murder a monster there were no distracting fireballs being flung at her face. It was a bit over a year ago that she had been cautious around giant deadly creatures that looked capable of crushing her spine. Back then it was a job with Johann and the mixed blood had only became bold at attacking vulcans after one had torn apart his hair tie in one of the attacks. It probably was aiming to kill the half demon, but that wasn't what happened. The insult it had set off was one of the instances where pride and insult caused an emotion and action that acted a lot like rage. While she knew now it wasn't anger, as well as back then, it had certainly been a cousin with how alike they could be when pushed enough.
But now? She was aiming to fully attack a giant beast of a monster, no upset of any sort needed to confront it in a close range in a bold and forward way. She flung herself at its vine like feet as soon as she reached one of the giant pumpkins. What other way could she fight it besides attacking it as quickly as she could until it either fell over or moved to fight back. In this case it swung one of its firey hands, causing her to stop attacking and quickly move out of the way of the massive limb. She gave a wince at thinking of the damage that did to the farmers crops, even if it was something that would be healed after all the enemies were gone.

She rushed back to attack it as soon as the hand swing had missed. Eventually it fell over dead, it wasn't exactly easy, nor was it exactly a swift death. Still, at least it was dead. That left another giant and two vines left alive. She was starting to feel a bit cranky and tired, but that wouldn't stop her from moving.

Pumpkin Hunt Empty Re: Pumpkin Hunt

Post by Victoria Sheridan 20th April 2019, 9:53 pm

Victoria saw that Haraka had pruned down the enemies to leave only two of the pumpkin vine things and that pumpkin giant remaining. She had better finish the pumpkin vines before the giant got here or things could get ugly for the two mages. She aimed her Light Machine Gun at the first pumpkin vine and let the weapon do the talking. Its loud report split the air as it sent a steady stream of rounds at the creature, which was doing a jerky dance as the bullets hit its face and knocked off chunks of pumpkin. After five seconds of sustained fire the pumpkin had all it could take and pitched forward, landing on the ground with a THUD and sending out a cloud of orange goo when its "head" broke on impact.

The second pumpkin vine did not stay idle while its friend was shot to death. It shot a fireball at the brunette and she saw it out of the corner of her eye. Victoria raised her left hand and used her Caduceus Shield to stop the fireball before it got to her. The golden shield absorbed the impact of the projectile and made it disappear in a puff of orange sparks that Victoria quickly stomped out once they hit the ground to prevent them from igniting a fire in the field. Victoria had just stomped out the last of the sparks when she noticed that something was amiss. Where was the pumpkin vine?

It popped out in front of her and lunged at her left arm, grazing it with its teeth as she retracted it just before it could bite down on her arm and possibly remove the limb. Victoria hefted her weapon into position and fired at the creature, which dodged by going underground again and not emerging. She waited for it to emerge before firing again. While she waited she noticed that her left arm was starting to bleed at the forearm where its teeth made contact with the skin. It had been cut when Victoria yanked her arm out of its mouth before it could close down and remove the limb entirely; she did not lift her arm enough to avoid the teeth, but having her arm cut was a lot better than having it bitten off.

The pumpkin vine popped up again and glared at her before spitting another fireball at her. Victoria raised her bleeding left arm to use Caduceus Shield to protect herself from the burning projectile. It slammed into the shield and dissipated in a puff of orange sparks that were stomped out when they touched the ground. She then turned her attention to the creature, which raised itself upright before plunging at her with its jaws aimed at her head.

She jumped to the side and hopped two steps before righting herself, then turned to face the creature and saw that it had accidentally buried its head in the soil when it tried to slam into her. Victoria took the opportunity to run in front of it, aim her weapon and open fire on the pumpkin before it could recover and go into hiding again. She held down the trigger until it bled orange goo from multiple bullet wounds and did not move. The pumpkin vines had been defeated, but in the meantime the giant pumpkin beast had finally arrived and was spoiling for a fight.

Disregarding her bleeding arm, Victoria faced down the giant and aimed her Light Machine Gun at it. The beast looked at her with an orange light in its carved eyes before reaching a hand towards her, a hand which she promptly shot at and starting tearing chunks out of until the creature had enough sense to pull it back. It withdrew the badly wounded hand and tried to step on her instead, but the Sabertooth mage was ready for that possibility and again jumped to the side and hopped two times in order to keep her balance. She aimed at its leg and opened fire, shooting its "knee" over and over until it staggered backwards. She then aimed for its body and fired again, holding down the trigger until the barrel overheated and she had to lower the weapon to the ground.

Thankfully Victoria was far from defenseless. She could use her Derringer and Hand Cannon spells before having to pick up her Light Machine Gun again. Victoria led off with her left hand, firing a Derringer at its face and hitting it just above its upper lip. She then put her hands together and fired a Hand Cannon shot, hitting it above the right eye. The beast staggered back but was not yet finished with her. It soon walked forward and tried to stomp her again, but by this time the Light Machine Gun had cooled enough that it could be used again.

Victoria seized it and fired at the beast, holding down the trigger and aiming for its face to bring it down quickly. Chunks were being ripped out of it and it was rocking back and forth until ten seconds later it fell onto its back and did not move. It had been defeated at last.

Victoria extended the bipod and set the weapon on the ground, then cast her Medical Bag spell on herself to heal the arm wound. The bleeding stopped moments after the spell was used... she would have to disinfect the wound later, but the wound was closed and she could focus on fighting the enemies. Victoria picked up her weapon and turned to Haraka.

"How many more of those things are out there?" Victoria asked her job partner.

    Haraka Omaras

Haraka took a deep breath in now that the fighting was over, even if just temporarily. Eyes looking over towards Victoria at her question. What was left? That was something one would ask a tracker. What did this mean? It was her job to look for evidence of anything left. That job wasn't actually as hard as she imagined. This wasn't picked up by looking for any trails, nor smelling anything. It was a sight caught by the woman's nocturnal eyesight. There wasn't really any other time she could ever recall a large flock of crows circling anything like that. Omaras gave it a brief stare before pointing towards the scene in the distance that was likely covered by the darkness of the night. "I see a something surrounded by a flock of crows. It looks bad, but not like anything the other cursed pumpkins could do."Was this the origin of the curse? There was a thrill at that thought, a smile slowly starting to creep on her face. If that's true, that would mean the curse would be gone as soon as it's dead. "I don't know how friendly the crows are so we shouldn't get too close. Still, we should at least get close enough to spot them? I can see in the dark and still can't make them out yet." It would be annoying if they were stuck with using long range attacks, since her magic was mostly good with short range ones instead. Still, you never know what will happen until you take the leap. That's right, she promised herself to go forward in life, to never run away again. They should speak more, but the west fiore trading company member decided to dash towards the... whatever was surrounded by crows?

The only way to find out would be to get closer, so that's just what she started to do. The pale ice blue skinned persons female side loomed less on planning and more than doing than her male side.
"You're probably going to fair better against whatever it is if the crows are dangerous." Victorias magic and fighting skills definitely seemed better with long range than the mixed blood. The proof, to her, was in how well the other woman had been able to take down the massive pumpkin beasts from a distance. The half dragon was unsure if she could ever take down something so massive at such a long range like her companion was capable of. She swore a bit after getting closer, the 'target' in question having shot a literal firestorm in their direction. What should she do? The only thing that made sense, stand her ground and wait for it to get close enough. She discarded her ice weapons before starting to gathering blue whispering wisps of wind between her hands. The wind soon formed into a sphere before being used to create a shield. The wind started to scream with many voices as soon as the spell was used. The ball formed a thin barrier, pushing most of the spells force away in the process. Some of the spell had seemed through the shield, but it was definitely better than the entirety of it. "I... hate fire so much."

Victoria looked towards where Haraka was pointing and saw something surrounded by a flock of crows, something that was not one of the numerous pumpkins that they had been fighting until now. She had a feeling that it had something to do with the curse that had been animating the pumpkins and sending them after the villagers. If the mages could bring it down the curse should be lifted... in theory. There was only one way to find out whether that was true or not.

Victoria followed Haraka as the latter closed in to take a better look at the figure surrounded by crows and stopped a short distance away from Haraka to give the latter room to retreat if the crows started to attack her job partner. The brunette focused on the figure and saw that it had a human body but possessed the head of a jack-o-lantern like the ones liberally dotting Sakuramori during the Night of Eternal Darkness incident. Victoria listened to Haraka opine that the Sabertooth mage was better suited to distance combat than the West Fiore Trading Company mage and was about to take aim at the figure when a magic firestorm was slung in their direction. Victoria did not need to take a big hit right before the final battle for Haunted Village started, so the brunette raised her left hand and created a Caduceus Shield to block the spell. The shield was raised just in time to spare her from getting burned; the spell was broken up into smaller fireballs that floated to the ground and soon fizzled out without fuel to sustain them.

Not content to be target practice for the strange figure, Victoria had a decision to make. Did she get rid of the crows first or did she shoot at the big guy himself? She did not want to make a choice to start combat without Haraka being on board with it. She would ask them first.

"Hey Haraka, what do you want me to attack first? The crows or the guy himself?" Victoria asked her job companion. Whatever course of action they decided upon, both mages needed to be on board with it before the fighting started. For this battle she would follow Haraka's lead because Victoria could not fight the crows and their master simultaneously, so she and Haraka would need to work together to win.

The crows squawked menacingly as they circled over the guy's head and watched the two mages closely. The feathered fiends would be sure to jump in once the fighting started, so someone would have to kill the birds to make the fight easier. Haraka had already all but stated that eliminating the birds might be her responsibility, so Victoria got ready to shoot them out of the sky before they could interfere in the fight with their master.

Legs stilled as  pointed ears played their part in hearing the human. The brunettes idea was certainly better than her own. The pale ice blue skinned person could think more clearly as a male, but then she would lose the aggressiveness that was so useful in battle. Honestly she just wanted to charge the cursed creature and end all this madness. The curse would end if they kill what started it, right? This thought process was how Haraka ended up switching back to a man. In this situation, it was better to be able to think can plan clearly. The last thought process the doctor had as a woman was definitely not rational or clear. "Please take down the crows." He wouldn't be as aggressive or confident as before, but blind confidence wasn't always the best path. Now was the time to focus on the enemy in front of them. Was it able to speak? Well, could or couldn't, the fire tornado certainly suggested that it didn't feel like talking right now. If it only wanted to kill the two, that was fine. Would the strange pumpkin like personified cursed creature toss another fire tornado? It did something very different instead. All the pumpkins near the being sprouted to life, starting to go towards the two. Any need that had existed to find out if it was really the source of the curses had certainly vanished. Now the West Fiore Trading Company Guild member knew what to do. The weight of lacking the ability to do anything had slightly faded. Now there was something someone like him could do. "I'll keep those out of the way." Omaras really hadn't expected this to happen, but it wasn't shocking either.

This was the being they had been hunting for, the starter of the curse. The job said that one would be the one that could change pumpkins. Did all the cursed ones start out that small? With worries and fear on the back of the man’s mind, the mixed bloods grip tightened on the twin ice khopeshes. While not immediately speeding off to confidently chop the pumpkins that had recently come to life, he did watch and prepare. The mixed blood did run towards the creatures after a few seconds. No matter what shape or form, the core of his person remained. The half demon still knew there was a job to do and peoples well being at steak. Also, even without confidence? The young looking man was incredibly stubborn. It as impossible to approach the small pumpkins without getting closer. That certainty caused a certain pair of deep sapphire blue eyes to glimpse at the crows. At first, the doctor thought he had avoided getting too close. Leaning down to cut one of the little pumpkins open would have been simple enough, if the boss didn't start approaching Haraka. Of course, the pale ice blue skinned person backed away,
though it didn't stop busy hands from slicing at any near by violent pumpkins. While they seemed fixated on him, he knew that was just temporary. The thing was reacting to the cursed beings getting slashed, but those were clearly easy for it to make. He was positive it would react even worse as soon as Victoria started shooting the birds, they didn't look so easy to replace. Just thinking of that caused some of the nervousness and fear to push back a bit.

Sure, it was still there, but now there was the nice thought of the local people of this place being free. Now it was mad at him, but next it would be mad at Victoria. He could see the simple plan working out well, at least so far.
