    Rhace Tarrin
    Aww, Pumpkin! - Halloween!

Once again, we come to the intrepid trio of Meliora Vitae making their way to a seasonal event - this seemed to be a consistent tradition for the captain and his two lieutenants. Was it the fact that they were glued together at the hip both for the necessities of their work, or for the sheer fact that they actually enjoyed each others’ company? No matter what the reason was for this, it was obviously going to come to pass that they would go to the next available event for them to attend. This was the way their collective relationship worked - Rhace proposed to attend an event, promised to the both of them that he would be footing the bill for it, and then he flew them both to wherever it was they were attending the event. If nothing else, he was a sucker for being a gentleman for the both of them, for in his mind he owed them about a million times over for all the hard work they put in to assist him being the captain of the ship. It was lonely at the top, and without their constant care and work for the people in their charge, he would have been flying a crashing and burning vessel directly into the side of a mountain for his own incompetence. However, with their help, he was learning- and that deserved the gratitude of a man who had not signed up to join this guild with the intent of becoming its leader. That alone had sort of made it… just happen. Such being the case, Rhace had vowed to show his gratitude to them in every way he possibly could, because they deserved it. Without them, he would not be even a quarter of the Captain he was now.

This time around, it was Halloween - a fall season spectacular where all sorts of spooky things came out to play, and apparently pumpkins were the theme of the day. Back home, this wasn’t something he had really celebrated. It wasn’t a big deal for him there, especially when he was surrounded by the four walls of Gran Keep. However, it was going to be a nice distraction from the work they had to put in. So, with gamma watch in charge of the Endeavor, the three heads of the guild had flown their way down to the surface world, where Rhace had selected Oak Town as their destination– and yes, he had literally pulled up a map of Fiore and thrown a dart at it with his eyes closed in order to pick precisely where they were going. He vowed not to tell anyone about the two small holes he put in the closest cabinet to the board in his office, having missed his first two shots. I mean, look, his eyes were closed, okay?

So, the shuttle touched down in a convenient clearing on the outskirts of town, and was sufficiently locked up so that none could steal their vessel. To this event, Rhace had decided to eschew his normal cape and switched it for a double-breasted black coat; it was a departure from his normal shoulder cloak, but hey, the weather was turning colder and it would be more suitable for the trip. With emerald eyes cast around, Rhace took a good look at the place they had arrived to. The festival appeared to be in full swing and people were milling about; nobody seemed to care that an aerial vessel had made a landing nearby and three people had stepped out of it; the place was too busy and too popular for most others to actually care. The place was festooned in hues of orange and black, with the entire event decorated wildly with fake skeletons, bats, spiders and other creatures of the night - as well as pumpkins. Pumpkins on little white picket fences. Pumpkins on hay bales. Pumpkins on tables. Everywhere you looked? Gourds. Too many gourds.

”Right then. I guess we’re here now,” he said to the ladies on either side of him, knowing full well that this was going to be an interesting night the second they actually decided to dip their toes into the festivities, to which there were plenty to experience. Music was blasting somewhere in the distance and Rhace knew that there was going to be a party kicking off any moment. ”Where to first?”

    LIFE IS A BALANCE
BETWEEN WHAT WE CAN AND CAN'T CONTROL

--- LEARN TO LIVE BETWEEN EFFORT AND SURRENDER ---
The weather was once again cooling down as the seasons shifted closer to winter, and in all the time Cassiti had spent during this period of Earthland, she had come to a conclusion: Autumn was her favorite season, especially the end of fall when the weather was cold and crisp, almost on the cusp of winter. Truthfully, it wasn’t so much about the cold itself as the atmosphere that came along with it. Bundling up in warm clothes, holding mugs of steaming hot drinks, sitting close to a warm fire with a book and a blanket. She loved the food and the aesthetic, the activities – really everything.

As such, she was more than happy to accept Rhace invitation to attend the Halloween festival. Such invitations came regularly from their captain these days, who often liked to spend social time with Cassiti and Cordelia. It was always a nice break for the three of them to do something together not work related, and the down time really helped all three of them keep stress free and remain friends as much as coworkers. Plus, they truly did just enjoy one another’s company. Cassiti herself was really starting to feel like this was what it felt like to have real friends, something she had never experienced in her life before now. It was… strange. But pleasant.

And so they arrived in Oak Town, the trio stepping off the small airship and out into the brisk autumn air. Cassiti was dressed in a white romper that had a colorful sash tied around her waist. Though the pant suit was sleeveless, a cape that matched the colors of her sash was draped across her shoulders to help fight back the cold, the garment plenty warm for the current weather. She wore a bracelet on each wrist, as well as a band around her bicep, and large earrings dangled from her earlobes. A pair of strappy sandals completed the ensemble, and she had opted to take out her braids to wear her hair in its natural state.

Her green eyes panned slowly around the area as they approached the festival, hundreds of people already milling about and having a good time. There was live music playing further away. Rhace spoke up to ask what they wanted to do first, and only a moment later Cassi’s gaze fell upon a nearby stall. “What about a warm drink?” she suggested, pointing to the stall in question, where a woman dressed in a witch’s costume was stirring something inside a steaming cauldron and passing it out to people. “Zee weather is parfect for somezing like a coffee or hot chocolate.”

Presuming they agreed, the three would make their way over to the witch’s table and got in line, patiently waiting for their turn. By the time they got to the front, they had quickly learned that the drinks were infused with a magic that would give the consumer a magical effect at random. Normally something like that would cause Cassi to be wary, but no one seemed to be having anything harmful or dangerous happening to them, and there were signs everywhere assuring everyone all effects were temporary. What would be the harm in trying? She accepted her glass with a small bow and her thanks, stepping aside so the other two could get their drinks as well. Only once they all had a cup in hand did Cassi take a sip from her cup.

The drink itself was delicious, rich with earthy spices. She could feel the warmth as it soaked through her body. So, too, did she feel a different sensation entirely. It almost felt like she was… floating? A small glow began to ebb from her skin, and even as she watched, her body turned translucent like she was a ghost. Clearly she could still interact with the world around her, because the cup did not fall from her hand and she could feel the ground beneath her feet, despite how light and airy she felt. Yet she had taken on some kind of ethereal form all the same. Cassiti looked over herself with her usual even curiosity, twisting her arms this way and that, until finally, she smiled and gave a rare, small chuckle. “I like zis. It eez.. fun.”

Once you find your light, I'm sure it will lead you back here.

Rhace and Cassi dressed very properly for the turning weather and in normal circumstances, Cordelia would have followed suit. But Halloween was one of her favorite holidays -- not that there was a holiday that she didn’t enjoy. The opportunity to dress up in fantastical costumes and pretend to be someone or something different was so exciting! So while her compatriots had opted not to wear costumes per se, Cordelia had dove right in head first. If they were going to a Halloween festival, she was going to participate and she was going to fit in!

The woman that stepped out from the shuttle was a far cry from the bright color-wearing Ace that usually made her rounds about Fiore. No, out stepped Cordelia wearing an elegant purple witch hat, with intricately sewn occult designs on the brim. She had a tight purple choker tied around her neck, long silk sleeves that ran up to her biceps and down to her wrists and an equally as neatly designed bodice that showed off her curves and assets. A large sash was tied around her waist, complete with a bow and knot in the back and a short purple skirt hung just shy of half-way down her thigh, where she had tied a silver floral brooch. Purple boots clacked loudly on the ground as she ran a bit ahead of Cassi and Rhace, grinning wide from purple-touched lips. “Oh this looks like so much fun!” the witchy woman cooed with a small clap as she turned back to her friends. As Rhace asked where they should head to, she literally looked too overwhelmed to make a decision, practically glowing with excitement.

Luckily Cassi was far more reigned in and suggested a drink, pointing to one of the nearest stalls where an equally witchy woman was stirring a pot of liquid. “That sounds amazing, Cassi! Let’s do it!” she agreed, following after the woman with gusto. There was a small line in front of them but it gave them time to learn that the liquid inside the cauldron had some truly amazing magical effects. It was a temporary effect that didn’t cause harm; just added a little magical twist to an already spooky evening. Cassi took her glass first and then Cordelia insisted that Rhace take his next before finally taking hers and gathering around her friends and taking part with them.

It was to die for; spiced liquid that spread its warmth through her veins. She hummed pleasantly as she basked in the sensation, closing her eyes and smiling. When she reopened them, she found her fellow Ace as translucent as a ghost. She gasped in surprise, the act causing her mouth to move in such a motion that she felt a strange sensation herself. She used her tongue to press at her teeth, finding her incisors longer than they normally would be. “Oh my God!” she said, her voice a little muddled by the sudden growths. “You’re a ghust and I’m a wampire,” she lisped out excitedly! “Cassi, you look so pwetty as a ghust!” she was quick to compliment her friend before she brought her arm up in front of her face, her shining eyes alight with playful, wicked intent. “But it will not save you from becoming my wampire thwall. Both off you will be my thwalls and I’ll use you how I please! I vant to suck your bwud!” She giggled as she ran around them, pretending she had a long cape and made surprisingly convincing hissing noises.

    Rhace Tarrin
    Aww, Pumpkin! - Halloween!

The dark-skinned woman's decision brought them to the end of the line for a drink stand, which Rhace had absolutely no argument with. Given that the line was at least reasonably short, the wait to get their drinks wasn't too bad at all, and once all three had their beverages, they all took their drinks together. The drink itself was certainly very interesting. Now, Rhace was at least somewhat accustomed to wintertime drinks - spiced mead and warm cider were entirely commonplace back home, when the family and the students would brew entire batches of these and keep them warm in large cast iron cauldrons for the bracing cold of winter. It was most certainly appreciated when you lived in a stone castle, and heating elements were only so effective within those walls. This reminded him of what was effectively a non-alcoholic version of that, which - given that this was a family-friendly event - seemed like a reasonable idea. Rhace devoured the entire thing in one go, savouring the mild burn that followed down his throat, coupled with the warming sensation that tingled its way through his body moments later. It was a nice drink, to be sure, and he would have likely stood there and had plenty more if it was available for him to do so. However, sharing was a thing, as was letting the rest of the line move along and the other people have a try of the same stuff.

The three of them having finished their drinks, their changes began to take place almost simultaneously; he watched as Cord's fangs began to grow in, and Cass' body began to take on a translucent shade of blue. He wondered what would follow for him - and sure enough, the warmth that filled his body was almost chilling a moment later and his veins almost icy while his own skin began to fade away into a similar shade of blue that Cassiti was experiencing. He took a look at his hands, and realised he could still touch and feel, but everything about him felt so very light. Really, this was a very fun side-effect of this. Then, Cord in her infinite wisom, decided to take on the role of the vampire lord - and made a rather unfortunate comment that he couldn't help himself but react to. Pfft, use you how I please. Rhace had to bite his tongue at her comment, because there were children around and now was not the time to respond directly to that comment but it was going to be absolutely inevitable that Cordelia would know that Rhace was staring directly at her the moment she said that, with one eyebrow slightly quirked. She wasn't going to get away with that particular comment, but that was a future Rhace problem.

The spectral swordsman took a glance at Cord and Cass for just a moment, then wiggled his arms like he was in fact pretending to be a ghost. "Lots of stuff like this can be fun, Cass. It's all pretty harmless," Rhace replied with a chuckle, knowing that her experience with the cultural mores that were prevalent in Fiore and Earthland as a whole was a very different experience to what Rhace and Cordelia had growing up, especially given that they had the same heritage - their life experience was actually rather similar as a result. However, they were all too happy to show Cass what their lives were like and welcome her into the way they lived. She was unmistakeably part of the group, and she was as much a valuable part of their friendship as either of the two Elumish.

However, now that he had become a spooky ghost boy, it was time to play it up a little. "But if you wanna bite me, Cord... you're gonna have to catch me first, vampire!"

And with that, Rhace took off in the direction of the next attraction, paying more attention to navigating the crowd than where he was actually going. Apparently, it was time to embrace utter chaos, and he was most certainly here to have a little fun and blow off some steam.

Where he ended up was in front of a small river, one presumably set up for the purposes of this event - where the passengers of the boat, ushered on by witches and warlocks, would go through a tunnel set up further downstream, which was all rather foggy and decorated with fake spider webs and all such manner of things. Usually, things like valentine's day had tunnels of love. This was clearly a tunnel of terror. To be fair, this seemed like a good distraction, and now that the not-so-costumed Rhace and Cass were appropriately halloween-looking, it seemed like a fitting place for the three of them to try next. Once they caught up to him, Rhace turned around to face them, and cast them a quick glance, before jabbing his thumb over his shoulder as if to point at the next empty boat that was now being prepared at the pier.

"How about this then?" he asked, clearly wondering if they were up to trying the challenge placed before them. "You two up for a little boat ride?"

    LIFE IS A BALANCE
BETWEEN WHAT WE CAN AND CAN'T CONTROL

--- LEARN TO LIVE BETWEEN EFFORT AND SURRENDER ---
As always, Cordelia was a shining star of bubbly happiness that was all so eager to be out and about, surrounded by people and activities. The brunette was certainly the biggest socialize out of the three of them, though that wasn’t to say that Rhace or Cassiti weren’t social. Rhace simply liked to keep an air of professionalism around him while he was at work, rarely letting loose unless it was in the private company of his two right hand women. And Cassiti simply came from a different culture altogether where she was taught to live and act and carry herself a certain way that didn’t allow for much open display of emotion, no matter how friendly she actually was.

Cassiti suggested they start with a drink and her companions were all for the idea, the trio getting in line and collecting their glasses before drinking them together. At first she wasn’t sure that anything had happened to Cordelia, but as the woman gasped at the sight of Cassiti’s ghostly form, it was obvious that there had been a change to her teeth. The woman’s two canines on the upper jaw of her mouth had extended far beyond what was typical for a human and more into the realm of a cat, dog, or other beast of prey. As Cordelia explored the new phenomenon with her tongue, she spoke out in excitement about having been turned into a vampire. Or at least, Cassi was fairly sure that was the word Cordelia had been trying to say, though trying to talk around her new teeth was requiring a bit of effort.

“Oh. Thank you,” was the Avalonion woman’s response to Cordelia’s compliment, once more looking down at herself and the ghostly shape. In fact, a glance over to Rhace revealed that he had received the same effect as Cassiti, his flesh turning a translucent and glowing blue color that was just as intriguing to behold from a third person perspective as a first person one. He assured her that these kinds of harmless spells always had a lot of potential to be fun, an experience which Cassiti earnestly had very little exposure to, though the months spent with these two had changed that significantly. She watched Cordelia curiously as the woman ran circles around them in an odd behavior, teasing about turning them into thralls for her to use how she saw fit, and wanting to.. Suck their blood?

It all was very much over Cassiti’s head. “What eez a thrall? And why would you drink my blood? Dat does not sound very appetizing. Or sanitary.” It was clear she had no concept for what a vampire was. After one of them (presumably) explained it to her, she processed the information silently while Rhace teased Cordelia back, explaining that the brunette would have to catch him before being able to do whatever she wanted to him. Then the man took off in a bit of a run to lure Cordelia into giving chase. Cassiti smiled and shook her head softly, amused at the antics of her companions, though the heavy undertones of flirtation went way over her head. She followed along after them at an easy pace until they all regrouped by the boat ride that Rhace had stopped near.

The sign outside of the ride referred to it as the Tunnel of Terror, and it seemed Rhace was interested in seeing what it was all about. Not someone that was easily given in to fear, Cassiti figured it was likely just an experience of cheap tricks, as most Halloween festivities were, and as such she wasn’t at all adverse to the idea. “Sure.” Though her response was simple enough, she did seem sincere in her interest to see what it was all about, carefully stepping into the boat and taking a seat on the far side to leave plenty of room for her companions.

The ride itself wasn’t quite the box of campy jump scares she thought it would be. In fact, the tunnel had been enchanted to show everyone that rode it visions of their deepest fears, that much was obvious. Cassiti herself saw multitudes of her people, the Avalonians, with their backs turned toward her, informing her that she had failed her pilgrimage and was to be forever shunned and exiled from Avalon. And while it was certainly true that she greatly feared failure in serving her goddess, the oracle held rather soundly to the knowledge that this was not real, and as such it did very little in the way of stirring her from her usual grounded composure. She merely remained sat, looking around the tunnel with a calm expression of focused curiosity as they passed through it.

Once you find your light, I'm sure it will lead you back here.

Whether Cordelia was aware of what her words sounded like to her compatriots -- one in particular -- she didn’t seem to show it. Blissfully caught up in the magic of being transformed, she raced around the other two and hissed jokingly at the nearby guests, doing her best to sound like a cartoonish version of a rather scary cliche creature. It wasn’t until Cassiti spoke up, asking what a thrall was and why she would want to drink their blood, remarking that it sounded pretty nasty. “Oh! A thrall is like a servant that’s been mind-controlled. In all the stories, vampires like, use their eyes and their charm to seduce people into doing their bidding. And vampires always drink blood for… some reason. I think it’s because they are undead that they desire to have blood again? I don’t honestly know!” Cordelia explained, laughing at the end. “I only know what I’ve seen in movies and shows. I never really looked into them that much because I don’t think they’re real.”

Rhace spoke up once more, exclaiming that if she wanted to bite him that she would have to catch him. Showing his more playful, youthful side, Rhace took off into the crowd and Cordelia let out an excited yell, chasing after him in a display that was just as adolescent and fun-loving as he. They most likely looked pretty silly running around like children but that hardly mattered to Cordelia, thrilled to let off a little steam. As Rhace came to a stop in front of the next attraction, Cordelia playfully jumped on his back, wrapping her arms over his chest as she giggled. “Got you!” she informed him as she released him a moment later.

Their guildmaster asked if they wanted to partake on the boat ride they had come to a stop by. Cordelia looked quite excited as she looked at the river and the boat, her eyes twinkling as she scanned for a poster to explain what it was. It was only after she had read a bit of the ride’s explanation that… her mood seemed to temper a little. Her bright, overly zealous excitement came down to a reign of neutrality. “Uh… thure,” she said softly, an unusual amount of timidness both on her face and in her voice. She followed Cassi into the boat, seating herself next to the other woman and leaving enough room for Rhace to slide in beside her. Now sandwiched between her two friends, she looked a bit more at ease but there was a nervousness in her features that showed through the cracks of her cheery disposition.

The boat jerked forward and in they went, witches and warlocks waving them on and wishing them luck. As they entered the dark portal, Cordelia took several deep, careful breaths to steady herself. She knew what she was going into was some kind of tunnel, enchanted to show scary things that would personally unsettle them. Fake or not, there was no denying that the last thing she wanted to do was be confronted with her fears. She tried to find interest in the other’s fears that showed before them but her attention was, unfortunately, drawn to the figure in the mist. A child, no more than five or six, stood amongst the fog, his back to them. A small stuffed bear was clung in his hand as he stared away from them, his shoulders slumped.

Cordelia practically buried her face into Rhace’s shoulder, wrapping one of her arms around his and trying to hide against him. Her other hand, out of some deeper instinct, went to reach for Cassi’s. It stopped before it got too close, her better nature and awareness stopping her from doing anything more foolish than getting on the ride. She wanted the comfort of both of her friends but she knew Cassi well enough that she couldn’t just touch her. And so she brought her other hand back to her leg and gripped her thigh tight, her eyes practically shuttered closed against Rhace’s cloak.

She only managed to look once more before the end of the ride, catching one last glimpse of the boy before he dissipated. She continued to hide her face until the boat came to a stop. She would only move once Rhace started to get up from the boat, seeming to come back to reality. Tears clung to the corners of her eyes, with a few rivulets having caused a massacre of her eyeliner. She quickly wiped away the tears on the back of her hand as she stood up from the boat, cleaning herself up as best she could. “So!” she said, trying to muster the same enthusiasm as before but coming up lacking. “Where to next?”

    Rhace Tarrin
    Aww, Pumpkin! - Halloween!

The eventual acquiescence of his companions to his request was enough to make him smile slightly and nod, ushering them both onto the boat. Once it began to set sail, Rhace could finally relax a little, and let the gentle rocking of the little wooden craft on the water relax them both. The lights, movements and sounds coming from the decorations all through this ride were nice, and the dim ambient lighting that had been set up certainly portrayed the mood as the fog that was whipping up from the surface of the water grew higher before it consumed them, and they came to the entrance of the tunnel, guarded by a large, glowing portal.

As they sailed through the shimmering purple barrier that indicated the second half of the ride and into the tunnel, Rhace realised that what he was seeing was nothing. However, there was a little hint that this wasn't just a lack of an illusion cast about him - this was a purposeful void. Everything around him fell utter dark, as if the absence of light was preparing to consume him whole. Turning his head back to the barrier they had passed through, he found that he could not spy its glow any longer - everything for him had become the total essence of darkness, with no light entering or leaving. He could not see Cassiti or Cordelia, but knew they were still there given that there was still weight in the boat and that he was seated. This, then, was his fear made manifest - death, and the total absence of all other things. Utter isolation from the rest of the world. However, the thing that carried him through this was knowing that they were still together, and the power of this illusion on the non-magical guildmaster would not be given any form of sway.

What Rhace realised, as nails scratched gently across the flesh of his opposite shoulder, was that Cordelia was not handling this particular situation. What she was seeing was rather clearly deeply troubling her, for the fact that her face was now buried against him, clearly trying to fight back the response. Emerald eyes cast down, Rhace saw that the knuckles on her other hand were going white as she clasped fabric and skin in a desperate attempt to fight away what she was seeing. However, the sheer intensity of the situation was enough to sway her and shake her to the very core. The swordsman could not bear to see that be the case; there was an immediate response on his part where one of his arms wrapped around her, drawing her body as close as he possibly could so that she could simply feel his warmth and curl in until she felt that she was able to cope with the powerful sway of her mind. Without thinking, he pressed a very tender kiss to her forehead as it peeked out of the tyrian hat adorning her head - an acknowledgement that she was not alone in facing the demons that plagued her. At this point, it was simply reflexive. Not a single thought went into anything other than protecting her and being her shield.

As the ride came to a halt and the boat was lashed to the pier for its next set of passengers, the man finally rose from his seat after giving Cassiti the opportunity to get out first - and, truthfully, to give Cord a few more moments of sanctity so that she could compose herself before he offered her his hand and helped her up. If nothing else, he felt a rather serious pang of guilt for having accidentally subjecting her to that quiet form of torture, but he genuinely did not expect that ride to be able to affect people like that. One more reason he was rather glad he was not a mage of any kind - if an amusement park ride had the ability to assault someone so powerfully mentally that they were reduced to tears, then he wanted absolutely no part of that kind of horror. He went to say something, anything, to assuage Cord's fears - but found that there were no words that were applicable to the situation, especially given that she was trying so desperately to not address the proverbial elephant in the room. He did not want to upset her further, so he left it at that. Even as she dug deep to find some of her usual effervescence and came up short, he was going to leave well enough alone, hold his tongue, and let her come to him about it if she wished.

Truly a marvel, ladies and gentlemen - Rhace Tarrin making a wise decision.

"Something simple, I think," he commented. In that instant, there was a very short line for another game that was being played nearby; it was a twist on the normal shell game, but this time played with coffins. Well, that could only lead to bad omens, but whatever - Rhace was more than happy for anything that would provide sufficient distraction for the girls now that they'd just been through an experience slightly more harrowing than anticipated. This would do nicely. "Let's go play that, hey?"

Rhace drew them both over to the game, with his arm still firmly around Cord's shoulders so that she could just lean against him if required, he looked over the woman who was operating the game. This one was dressed for the occasion - in truth she physically looked like the perfect bog witch, with her skin tinged green with boils and warts dotting it and a black mane of frizzy, untamed hair down to her shoulders, through her robes of midnight shimmered with wispy threads of silver through them all showed that this was a woman who only went for finery - there was a hint of magic all about this game. Which, given the fact that the coffins were dancing across the table of their own volition, seemed to track well.

The three coffins opened up, one of which revealed a pink candy wrapper and two more revealed plastic skeletons, before they all began to close and whir about in a circle faster than his eye could track. He would have expected his extensive combat training would have given him the eyes of a hawk, but this was absolutely not the case in this instance. He'd have to rely on something a little more deep and arcane than skill: pure luck. Eventually, the coffins came to rest on the table, and his eyes met the sunken form of the bog witch across from him, with her deep, gray eyes - and Rhace pointed to the leftmost of the three receptacles, hoping that sheer, blind guesswork would get him across the line. The coffin opened on its own - and revealed, unfortunately, a skeleton within. The witch cackled that ever-familiar high-pitched trill, to which Rhace knew that he was out of luck after all.

"I hope you two are luckier than I am," he commented dryly, hoping very much that he could get at least one of them the reward.

    LIFE IS A BALANCE
BETWEEN WHAT WE CAN AND CAN'T CONTROL

--- LEARN TO LIVE BETWEEN EFFORT AND SURRENDER ---
Cassiti was so unperturbed by the visions she was seeing in the tunnel that it was difficult for her to miss when Cordelia’s emotional center shifted. Rhace seemed to be doing fine himself – whatever his fear was, Cassiti couldn’t really see it, though his eyes were almost glazed as he looked around without really seeing any of what she and Cordelia could see. The hallucination that befell him clearly was for his eyes only, for some unknown reason. Cordelia, on the other hand, was not taking the ride well at all. Though Cassiti wasn’t exactly what one could call an empath, she was attuned enough to the spiritual world to sense when there was an imbalance within it. Something had Cordelia spooked, enough so that the brunette woman had practically buried herself into Rhace’s shoulder and very nearly reached out to take Cassi’s hand. The Oracle almost didn’t notice until it was too late, but just as caught the movement with her eyes and looked down, Cordelia was already pulling her hand back and gripping her leg tightly, instead.

Cassiti frowned thoughtfully. Something must have truly been bothering Cordelia for her to almost forget that her Avalonian friend wasn’t permitted to touch others. She looked around, trying to determine what had spooked her companion. It was difficult to isolate anything out of the ordinary, considering Cassi’s own vision involved the tunnel being filled with dozens of her people, if not more. But there was one that stuck out from the rest. A smile child that was not garbed in Avalonion attire, his back to the boat, with a teddy bear in his hand. His posture was a stark contrast to that of the people from her vision, his shoulders slumped with some kind of sorrow or resignation. He said nothing, and never turned to look toward them, Cassi turning in her seat slightly to watch until the spectacle was over and the boat emerged from the tunnel.

The Oracle departed the boat first, leaving plenty of room on the dock for the other two. Cordelia had tears in her eyes, which was… odd to see. Yet despite the woman’s obvious distress, she put on a brave face and attempted to carry them forward without commenting on the experience. Did Cordelia not wish to talk about what had happened? Rhace seemed to think it best not to bring anything up either, keeping his arm around the other woman and suggesting they go find something simpler to do. Cassi followed after them in contemplative silence, doing her best to figure out what was the best way to behave in a situation like this and coming up entirely blank.

This was what her mind would be on while she watched Rhace sign up for and attempt a carnival game wherein a piece of candy was placed under a coffin shaped cup, alongside two similar cups that had little plastic skeletons beneath them. The object of the game was to keep track of which had the candy beneath it as the cups were shuffled around. Rhace gave it a shot, and unfortunately came up with a skeleton. In truth Cassiti really wasn’t all that interested in the game itself, still far more preoccupied with the knowledge that her companions’ moods had been soured and she did not have the social skills to help them.

Still, Rhace had seemed to think this game might cheer Cordelia up, so perhaps Cassi could just give it a try? She stepped forward to take her turn, watching the witch reset the candy and skeletons before the cups once more began to shuffle around. When they stopped, Cassiti was fairly certain she’d managed to keep track of the correct one, pointing at the center. The witch lifted the cup, and sure enough, there was the candy! Ignoring the witch’s reaction, Cassi picked up the candy and then, with more of a spur of the moment thought, turned and held it out to Cordelia. “Here. I would like you to have dis.”
