'Is this what we have become?' said his inner thoughts 'A ragtag band of simplistic bandits, lacking purpose'
It truly was a sad sight to behold. Once a powerful fighting force but now reduced to simple cutthroats who lived on by plundering caravans and merchant carts. Oh how they were mighty, first under the guise of Savage Skull and later the dark guild Nightmare, they'd ravaged the lands, instilled fear in the hearts of even the strongest men. And no law to abide by. They were truly free, free to crave power and free to rid the world of vermin called humans. Then it all turned around, Nightmare fell apart and the mages who called it home scattered to wind. The Rune Knights quickly followed, with the guild in disarray they were easy pickings. Bounties popped up, wanted posters hung in every major city and the knights hunted them down.
So now they were here, hidden in an abandoned ruin a couple of miles away from a small village. Dahau had no idea what this place used to be, it could've been a temple. Or maybe even some small fort. Not that it really mattered, right now it was their hiding place. They even haven't attacked the town, they could, but in doing so they would probably attract too much attention to themselves. There was one solace, however, by only attacking traveling merchants they really were just bandits and thus the Rune Knights wouldn't bother themselves with Dahau and his crew.
Then again attacking the town, it would bring back the luster in him and his men. 'Maybe we should just do it' he said out loud. While turning around and gazing upon a map of the surrounding area. 'We are quite far removed from the civilized world. And before word even reaches the authorities we could be long gone.'
The village wasn't big, easy enough for the couple of dozen men under his command. Besides, the town wouldn't put up much of a fight against hardened warriors. But then again, the moment they would, they needed to relocate yet again.
