The Great Ball Game Empty The Great Ball Game

Venus looked with a sense of misgiving at the paper in her hand for the umpteenth time. The job seemed simple enough, but it was the doing of it that was problematic. Apparently there were two companies, the one, Viridian Co., while doing its business, was charitable and sought to improve the lives of the citizens of the Neutral Grounds; the other, Alternative Solutions, was more devious and undercutting, and had the habit of always twisting the arm of the law to suit its darker, more sinister purposes, and always to the chagrin of the law enforcement and the detriment of Viridian. But the law was the law, and Alternative Solutions always somehow knew just how to pervert justice to suit its insidious intentions.

Countless times, the two organizations had clashed, physically and otherwise, until a resolution was made by the authorities of the Neutral Grounds that one of the companies would have to leave the city for the other. It was decided that a ball game would be the point of resolution. Alternative Solutions put in an extra stipulation: the winner would get to own the losing company. Viridian Co. had agreed, having had multiple symbiotic relations with star ball players all over Fiore. Documents were signed and all was made ready. That was when a major game which involved these star players was moved to the same day as the Neutral Grounds ball game, most definitely orchestrated by Alternative Solutions. Still, Alternative Solutions had less chances of raising a team that would successfully compete against Viridian’s ball team, but Viridian secretly discovered that one of Fiore’s legendary ball players, Remy the Beast, was not going to play in the major game. Viridian realized that Remy the Beast was Alternative Solutions’ trump card.

That was where Venus came in. Her job was to ensure that Viridian won the contest, as legitimately as could be managed. Of course, she couldn’t go kidnapping Remy; she personally didn’t prefer such tactics, and such a maneuver would obviously finger Viridian as the culprit. So she had researched Remy extensively, and come up with two weaknesses of the fellow which could be utilized against him. Firstly, he had an interestingly severe attention-deficit disorder, which he had successfully managed with medication. If he missed his medication before the game, perhaps the game could be tilted in Viridian’s favor. Remy’s second weakness would help Venus achieve her mission of depriving him of his medication: Remy was an incorrigible pervert.

Having armed herself with knowledge of the arrival time of Remy the Beast, the company that supplied him his medication, and where he kept the drug on his person, Venus had packaged a draught of adrenaline in an identical container to the one in which his medication was normally contained. Now, she pretended to busy herself close to the entrance through which Remy would enter the stadium. As the star player walked into proximity, the Demon Slayer intentionally tripped backwards and fell against the man. Next came a rather brief moment of groping, before she was roughly pushed away by one of his attendants. Remy said something to his attendant about not knowing how to treat a lady, as he gave Venus a lecherous smile. She said nothing, though her fists were clenched. But they were not clenched because she was angry, which was what every bystander would probably believe. They were clenched because in her balled fist was Remy’s drug, and in his pocket was a vial of adrenalin.

The ball game was intense, but Remy stole the show, though not as anyone expected. He was more clown than athlete, dashing here and there and acting like an eight year old on meth. Venus’ intentional presence at the fore of the stands only made matters worse for the star player, whose eyes kept searching the stands for ladies to ogle at. Of course, Venus, with her form and apparel, kept his gaze for much of the match. At the end of the match, Viridian clinched the victory, to the shock of Alternative Solutions. The Viridian Co. officials were overjoyed, everyone that mattered was happy, and that was another mission well done.

Now, all that was left was to get her right fist into Remy’s face….

    MISSION COMPLETED

    709 words.
