    Job specifics:

    Job Title: Our End
    Rank: B
    Job Location: Capital Crocus
    Group Word Count: 9000 words
Additional Requirements: Job accessible only to Eero and Leona Jarnefeldt

Job Description: The recent events in Peace Village and Phoenix Mountains weigh heavily on both Eero's mind and heart. The issue of his missing memories combined with the presence of the other self test Eero's currently frail sanity levels. However, Eero still seeks answers to the few memories he had uncovered. He wishes to find any and all mentions of dragons who hold or held the element of poison. Eero had heard about Leona's trip to the Capital Crocus before she left. After sending Soho with word of the possible meet up of the mages, Eero sets out for the Capital himself. Unfortunately, the pent up doubt, frustration and insecurity turn the research trip into a disaster. The mages will have to handle the situation that arises the best they can and its consequences.

Enemies: Enemies will be thought of as the thread progresses

Reward: 30k Jewels per participant; access to the next job

Eero had hard time sleeping, as of late. His thoughts kept on racing and he didn't have the strength to tell them to stop. That trip to the Peace Village did quite the number on him. He didn't anticipate any of what had happened there and after. His reasearch was held in place as he was unable to focus. Most of the time he spent with his head in his hands or in the infirmary section of the Guild, keeping an eye on the burn on his face. Thankfully it didn't take too long until Eero felt satisfied with the amount the wound had healed and stopped actively wearing bandages. He still kept some on him, though, just in case something happened. The boy sighed. He was sitting in the library's study, heaps of books around him. He pulled out every book that he thought could hold any information about the dragons that existed. Mostly those of the poison element, of course. But finding any information at all that wasn't just speculation was tough. He pretty much only gathered that there were dragons, they were powerful and only very few sympathized with human. Those were the ones who gave rise to the dragon slayers, as far as he knew. Eero had one name to go on - Eitur. He was still unsure whether it was the name of the dragon who trained him, or somebody else from later on in his life, that he didn't remember. But ultimately, he didn't gather much. With a groan he stood up from his chair and slowly worked on returning at least some of the books. He knew he shouldn't do so, since he wasn't the librarian, but he wanted to help out at least a little bit. The mess was quite big and it made him feel bad. The rest of the books he left on a table that was dedicated to used books, so that librarian could then professionally put back into their places.

The boy didn't want to go back to him room, though. He knew that it would make him feel more on edge again. He decided to go sit on the front porch. Eero walked through the entrance hall. So many new people joined as of late, it lifted up his heart a little bit. They would build a name for themselves, he was sure about it. He pushed open the doors and sat down on the wooden stairs in front of them. He only had his sweatpants and a t-shirt on him, but he didn't feel cold. At least not yet. He needed to reflect, though. The books in their Guild library didn't reveal too much to him, unfortunately. Not too much that he already didn't know. Eero hugged his knees in thought. Maybe a visit to a different library could be the answer? It sounded like he could give that a try, at the very least. /"Oak Town? It IS known as the town of history, after all.."/ That sounded like a solid idea. The question was - should he venture on his own? Would it be safe for him or for other people? Eero couldn't tell if he was in the best of states to go anywhere, alone especially. But only two people other than himself knew about his condition, for lack of a better term. Poko and Leona. He knew that calling upon Poko while she was busy with Guildmaster's duties would be a selfish decision. Not to mention that she would most likely not even have the time to help him. His only option was to turn to Leona, but he had overheard that she went away on a trip of her own. To Capital Crocus, if Eero remembered correctly. Something about hunting down one book in particular. That could maybe work out. Crocus was the Capital, so perhaps they had books and tomes that one couldn't find elsewhere, even in Oak. The problem was that Leona was already gone, so he didn't have a way of asking her if she wanted to accompany him. More like keep an eye on him, really. What he could do, however, was to write a note and give it to Soho to deliver to her. He would probably set out on the road himself, whether Leona's response would be positive or negative. If he didn't find anything in Crocus, he could always go to Oak Town later on.

The idea had been conjured up, then. The boy swiftly walked into his room and whistled for Soho. He opened up a window and the bird flew in, shortly. "Alright Soho. I have a bit of daunting task for you, but I know that you can do it." His friend tilted his head in anticipation of instructions. "I would like you to take a note to Leona in Capital Crocus. Can you do that for me?" Soho immediately nodded. Eero smiled and searched for a piece of paper that he could use for the note. He tore an empty page into half and wrote down his note.

    Hello Leona!
I'm sorry to bother you with an another selfish request. I have been on a search for any information about poison dragons, but so far I haven't been successful. I heard about your trip to Crocus, so I was thinking that two heads would be better than one and meet up. If you are still there and willing to, of course. If you don't have anything to write with, just leave the note with Soho to let me know that you agree. Throw it away if not. I will be already on the way, whichever your answer will be.

    Eero

His handwriting was hasty and Eero hoped that Leona would be able to read it. He folded the paper and gave it to Soho, who took it with his strong talons. "To Leona, in Crocus. I'm counting on you, buddy." The bird screeched and flew back outside to deliver Eero's message. The boy himself had to get ready for the road. He put on his usual black jeans and a tight t-shirt with a blue jacket on top of it. He fastened his leather choker around his neck and attached the artifact to it. One day he would unlock its secrets. But would he be able to bear whatever was inside? Only time could tell. The boy tossed a notebook with a few pencils into his leather travel bag along with an empty water container and set out.

Dressed in her olive green t-shirt and khaki cargo pants with boots, Leona wore her backpack and Argent Gloves with her new custom-made machete secured to her back. She was in Capital Crocus on an errand. She was finally here to locate a copy of To Infernus And Back so that she could find out more about Carl K. Blaskowitz and the artifacts he found and used during his quest to save Earthland. She was trying to find Jobaasa's Rare Romes, but she was not having any luck.

Where was Jobaasa's Rare Tomes? No one around here seemed to know. Either it was no longer open or someone did not want her to find it. Maybe it was not deliberate malice but that people really did not know about the bookstore. From Mr. Wainwright's words, the place catered to a clientele that was different from the ordinary bookstore.

As the name suggested, Jobaasa's Rare Tomes tended to sell a lot of older books, including many that were out of print. Books that were out of print usually commanded a higher price than did books with more recent publishing dates. She was not sure if To Infernus And Back was out of print, but she knew that it was hard to find. No one she had asked had even heard of the book. To say that the search was frustrating was putting it mildly.

Leona was trying to think of where to look next when a blue bird with a golden beak and golden feathers arrived and hovered near her. It was Soho. In its talons was a note. Soho held out its talons for Leona to take the note. She obliged and began to read it.

    Eero

Leona looked at Soho, then handed the note back to the bird. Eero was in Oak Town. Soon Leona would be there too.

"Take this back to Eero. I'll head that way now." Leona said to Soho, who nodded and immediately took off to return to her guildmate. The blonde took one last look around, then began walking towards the city limits. From there she would go to Oak Town as fast as she could. The book would just have to wait. Eero needed her help and she would go to his side.

Slowly winding her way through the crowds that filled the capital's streets, Leona briskly walked towards the city limits. She hoped that Eero had not gotten into any trouble in the meantime. After minutes of walking she was standing outside the city's gates and looking into the wilderness. Leona paused and took a swig from her ever-present canteen. The road to Oak Town would be a long one since she could not fly there.

If the blonde had previously visited Oak Town, she could just hitch a ride with her harpies and get there in a fraction of the time a journey on foot took. However, she had not been there before, so that option was not open to her. She would just have to walk. Moving her machete from her back to her left hip, Leona prepared to face bandits on the road. Many people traveled to Capital Crocus each day, which meant that bandits had plenty of victims to choose from.

Leona would not be one of them. She had taken on bandits before and had won. Today would be no different. Putting away her canteen and readying herself for the road, the blonde took a deep breath and started walking. She would have to get going now if she wanted to complete the trip before nightfall.

To make things progress faster, Eero opted to take a train to Capital Crocus. It was almost pure hell. His motion sickness was at its worst, so he decided to just sit in a little standing space between the carriages. He was hugging his knees with one arm, hoping not to puke all over the floor and himself. His other arm was outstretched, slapped onto a nearby window, so that Soho could see where he was. Eero wasn't sure how much time passed, until the train stopped on one of its stops and a bird flew in. The boy lifted his head up and saw a blue bird, Soho. He was holding the note he had sent to Leona in his talons. Eero took it from him and opened it. Nothing had changed on the note, so he assumed that Leona had agreed to their meetup in Crocus, as per the instructions he left inside the note. That made him a feel a little bit better, but that was quickly washed away as soon as the train started moving again.

When the train finally arrived at the Capital, Eero had absolutely no idea how much time had passed. He nearly fell out of the carriage and had to sit down at the nearest bench. He was completely pale, his eyes unfocused. A handful of people asked him if he was alright out of politeness, but Eero just waved them away. He knew that the sickness would pass, but he didn't know how long it would actually take. He was on the brink of vomiting a few times, though he managed to keep it at bay and eventually that need passed. The boy would stand up, shakily, Soho watching him intently. He was ready to help him if anything happened. Eero felt okay-ish enough to get going, but there was one issue. Leona was missing. The boy was confused. She sent the note back with Soho, so she must've been aware of their meetup in Crocus. "She gave it back to you, right?" Eero had no reason to doubt Soho, but he had to ask. The bird nodded firmly. The boy had no idea what was going on. Perhaps she was just waiting somewhere on the more outside of the station area? "Look for Leona, if you will, Soho." He said to the bird, who immediately took off, searching for Eero's guildmate. In the meantime, the boy slowly shuffled outside.

It was a daunting task with so many people going to and from the station, but he made it out in one piece and without any incident. That alone was a reason to celebrate, in Eero's condition at the time. Soho appeared above him and landed onto his shoulder. The bird shook his head. He didn't find Leona. Eero didn't think that Soho managed to comb through the whole city, but the knowledge that Leona was nowhere to be found in the nearby area made him worry. Did she already forget? Or did she just get delayed by accident? /"Or she just decided to ditch you. What a sorry excuse of a friend, huh?"/ The boy shook his head. No. She wouldn't do that. He knew she wouldn't. Or would she...? Eero wanted to go look for Leona in the city, but he was torn. Should he stay near the station or risk getting lost on his lonesome?

Re: [Job - Leona & Eero] Our End

Post by Leona Jarnefeldt on 10th September 2018, 7:02 pm

-Just outside Oak Town, late afternoon-

After spending several hours trying to get to Oak Town, Leona realized that she had made a mistake. A very big mistake. Eero was heading to Crocus, not Oak Town! The blonde felt so dumb right about now. Eero probably felt like that she had ditched him... Leona had to hurry back to Capital Crocus ASAP.

Leona summoned her harpies and began the flight back to Capital Crocus. She would fly at treetop level and make it before Eero had missed her for too long. That was the plan, anyway. She had planned to meet Eero, but a misunderstanding on her part put that plan in jeopardy.

"HIT IT!" Leona gave telepathic instructions to the harpy sisters.

"Uh, hit what?" Sylvia asked. Leona blinked. Then she realized that they probably did not know what that term meant.

"Sorry. Let's try this again. GO FAST!" Leona revised her instructions.

"Got it!" Sylvia replied before lifting off and carrying the blonde with her. Now they were on their way. Flying would help her make better time than walking.

-On the outskirts of Capital Crocus-

Leona was flying at treetop level and could see the walls of Capital Crocus off in the distance. She was almost there, but something caught her attention. Rather, someone caught her attention. It was a distraught young woman and young man running from six armed men!

"Drop me near them, then fly high. Wait for my instructions." Leona instructed. Sylvia nodded and flew in front of the girl for a distance, then turned around and slowed down. After dropping in altitude, Sylvia deposited Leona just a short distance from the young couple, who were running towards her. Sylvia took off and joined her sisters at high altitude

"KEEP GOING! GET THE TOWN GUARD!" Leona instructed the young couple. The young man had bruising on his face and dried blood was on one corner of his mouth. The young woman's shirt was ripped around the collar and her long skirt out of place. The terrified couple kept running and did not stop for anything. The men paused in front of Leona.

"Guys, it looks like we have a hero on our hands. Let's show her what we do to heroes." The leader, a bald man with an eyepatch and leather armor, said to his similarly equipped fellows. The group advanced towards her while brandishing clubs, daggers, and shortswords. Leona was not in the least bit intimidated by them. Desierto's bandits were more frightening than this bunch.

"She's wearing a backpack. That means she's got a lot of loot!" One of them said to his colleagues.

"I want those shiny gloves! Selling the rubies in them would mean we'd never have to steal again!" A man with stitches on his right cheek called dibs on her Argent Gloves. Like with the would-be muggers in Tolgalen, he would get them all right. Just not in the way he wanted them. She hoped he liked a fist to the face.

"Back off! They're mine!" The leader asserted his right to first choice of the loot.

Leona simply raised her hand for a Wind Blast and knocked them all down. It was pathetic. Three of them sprang to their feet and tried to rouse their unconscious friends. When they did not succeed, they turned to the source of their troubles.

"You shouldn't have done that, kid. We were just gonna rob you before. Now you're dead!" The leader taunted. Leona only smiled.

"You're alone, kid. The town guard won't make it in time. You're gonna die alone and be buried in a shallow grave in the woods. I hope playing hero was worth it!" Another bandit taunted.

"Whatcha gonna do?" The third asked. Leona laughed. She knew exactly what she was going to do.

"Now. Come get them, but don't kill them. I want them left alive." Leona telepathically instructed the three sisters.

"On the way." Sylvia said. The men walked towards her while chuckling. Leona made a show of drawing her weapon and waited. Moments later three winged forms dive-bombed the bandits, grabbing one by the shoulders and carrying him to treetop level.

"HEY! LEMME GO! STOP! DON'T GO ANY HIGHER! I CAN'T STAND HEIGHTS!" The leader screamed. While the remaining two thugs were distracted, Leona punched the man with stitches in the face with a Mach Straight spell, knocking him out. Leona laughed. He got the gloves first after all.

The last man standing dropped his weapon and ran for the woods. Daphne easily caught up and grabbed him by the shoulders. Leona put away her machete and watched the show as the black-haired harpy ascended to treetop level with her screaming prey.

The two men screamed and protested until they stopped fighting and just clung to the harpies for dear life. At this point Leona had mercy on them. She would react like they did if she were subjected to the same treatment. What she had just done would likely count as torture in some jurisdictions.

"Bring them down. Slowly. I don't want to kill them." Leona ordered.

"OK!" Sylvia and Daphne replied before slowly lowering the men to the ground and letting them go. The two men collapsed to the ground and just sat in place, grateful to be back on solid ground. The town guard arrived behind her.

"We understand you had a bandit problem?" An officer asked Leona. He had dark brown hair and brown eyes. He looked to be a young man in his twenties.

"Yes, officer. They were chasing a young couple and were about to catch up when I stepped in." Leona replied. The young couple in question walked up to the officer and engaged him in conversation.

"She saved us, officer. Don't arrest her. Arrest those men over there!" The young woman pleaded. She had long red hair in a ponytail and had blue eyes. She wore a white button-up shirt with a black knee-length skirt.

"Those men ambushed us on the road. They demanded our Jewels. We work in Capital Crocus' bookstores. I work in Written Antiquities. She works in Jo- Jo.. Jo-something." The young man chimed in. He had light blond hair and brown eyes. He wore a fancy suit that was more at home in the last century.

"I work in Jobaasa's Rare Tomes. Charles and I were on a date. We were on the way to Capital Crocus to see a movie and get dinner when those men jumped out of the woods and demanded our money. We gave it to them, but they wouldn't let us go. One of them, that bald guy, tried to rip my shirt off." The girl added.

"I jumped in to defend her, but they beat me up. We barely managed to get away. We wouldn't have made it if it weren't for that girl flying in on those bird girls." The young man named Charles concluded, pointing towards Leona.

"I see. It's a good thing she arrived when she did." The officer said as more officers began collecting the bandits and hauling them away. He then turned to Leona.

"We'll need you to come to the station to help us with an incident report." He said.

"Of course, Officer." Leona calmly said before sending away the harpies and following the officers and the young couple to Capital Crocus.

    -Capital Crocus, two hours later-

Leona and the young couple emerged from the police station after giving the officers details to help with their incident report. Based on the couple's testimony, the authorities ruled that Leona had acted in defense of others and thus found no reason to press charges. The blonde was happy with that outcome.

"Thanks. Um, what's your name?" The young woman asked.

    "Leona. Leona Jarnefeldt." Leona answered.

"Thanks Leona. I'm Claire. He's Charles." Claire said. Charles gave a small wave.

"We were on the way to see the movie The Righters Of Wrongs: Endless Conflict and then go to Ramsee's for dinner, but the bandits took all our money." Charles lamented.

"How much did they take?" Leona asked.

"2,500 Jewels. Ramsee's is an upscale restaurant, so we saved for two months to be able to afford it." Claire chimed in. Leona thought about it a moment. She was going to save her money for To Infernus And Back or a weapon upgrade, but these people needed help. Leona fished out a sum of Jewels equal to 3,000 Jewels and gave it to Claire.

"What? You're just giving us this money?" Claire asked.

"We should be giving YOU something after you saved our lives!" Charles objected.

"Just take it, guys. Go on the date. Don't let those goons ruin your day." Leona told them. Tears welled up in Claire's eyes. Charles looked to be on the verge of tears himself.

"Thank you! Thank you so much!" Charles happily thanked her.

"We're in your debt! If there's anything we can do..." Claire started.

"You said you worked in Jobaasa's Rare Tomes, right? I've been looking for it all day. I can't find it anywhere." Leona said.

"Yeah, it's kinda hard to find. I'll give you the exact address. Here, take this card!" Claire said before producing a business card, which she handed to Leona. Leona put it in her backpack so that she would not lose it. It was the exact lead she needed.

"Thanks so much, Claire. Now go on that date." Leona said to the young woman.

"We will. Thanks again!" Claire said before walking away with Charles to go on their delayed date. Leona walked away to try and find Eero. It was still daylight, but just barely.

    -45 minutes later-

She wandered the city until she found the train station. The blonde began looking for the familiar spiky hair that not too many people had. After a few minutes of searching, she found him waiting around.

"Hey Eero! I'm so sorry about this! I totally misread your note. It's all my fault." Leona greeted him before apologizing for keeping him waiting.

"I misread the note and thought it said you were going to Oak Town. Just when I was about to enter, I remembered that it said you were coming to Crocus. I'm so sorry!" Leona apologized again. She felt so terrible right now. Words could not begin to describe the depths of her embarrassment.

Eero decided to stay where he was, outside of the station. His legs still felt wobbly, but he was able to stand properly. Just in case, however, he was leaning on a wall with his shoulder, looking out for a familiar blonde head. Time went on and on and it was getting dark. Soho went out, flying over Crocus, trying to spot the boy's guildmate in the cast city. Eero had lost track of the amount of time he had been nailed to that one spot. /"Do you still think that she will come?"/ His other self asked him, with a hint of genuine interest. /"Of course."/ Eero replied, firmly. But, if he had to be honest... No. He couldn't think like that. /"I am not trying to undermine anything or anyone. I am just looking at things the way they are. Unlike you."/ What was that supposed to mean?

He wasn't delusional about the world, he had seen and experienced plenty of things, first hand. /"And yet you try to grasp at nothing when you are faced with a situation like this. People get left behind all the time. That's the way things sometimes are."/ The boy looked down at the ground and ducked, his arms  hugging his legs. /"Do you really think so? Or are you just trying to make me dislike Leona?"/ The answer was almost instant. /"You still take me as something malevolent."/ His other self wasn't asking. He didn't need to, because he knew that that was the answer. /"Did I ever hurt you?"/

He didn't. Not in an explicit way, at least. /"You almost got me killed a few times before."/ A few unfortunate run-ins with monsters and bandits. Eero was healing for a while after that. /"Not intentionally. You know those were incredibly tough and dangerous battles. And you know that I did my best to not get you hurt. You would've died if you were the one fighting."/ Eero groaned. He most likely would've died if his other self didn't take over, since he seemed to be better at fighting, for whatever reason. /"What about that spar with Leona? How do you explain that?"/ His other self did try to manipulate him into hurting Leona. /"I was doing exactly what I told you back then. You always seem to back out, never gather up your strength and make something happen. Whether it is within the Guild's hall or in your head."/

The boy rested his forehead on his knees. He didn't have any strength to gather to make something happen. Everything he had tried so far, had resulted in failure. While Eero was used to being thrown down and getting back up a lot, one person could only endure so much. /"Stay here, for whatever it is worth to you. But know, that even if she happens show up, you will not feel any better."/ Eero looked up and saw how dark it had gotten. His heart sank. Soho wasn't anywhere near, that meant that he was still searching. Any rational person would've called quits very, very long time ago. /"Maybe I am just as naive as that other me says I am..."/ He didn't want to think like that, but he was starting to see the things that have been pointed out to him.

The other self didn't talk to him again. Eero watched people come and go. They probably were going to a pub or going home from an another day of exhausting work. He could hear children laughing and then being called home by their parents. /"I wish I could be like that. So carefree. Nothing to worry about, except possible the adventures of the following day."/ Eero had longed for such a life for so long. He thought he had it when he was in the inn, but he quickly realized that that wasn't the case. He was wandering ever since. No clue to his person found, ever. But then he eventually met Poko and his life changed. It felt great having a place to return to, to call home, for a change. But the presence of his other self and the void of his missing memories still persisted. He uncovered some bits and pieces, but they only drove him crazier, as he longed to know more. To know everything. The whole tale, of how he came to be as he was then and there. Eero sighed. His heart felt suddenly incredibly heavy and he wanted to run. Far away. Away from everything and hide. His head fell on his knees again.

There was barely any light left from the dying sun, when Eero heard a familiar voice. It was Leona, apologizing. But the reason behind her incredible delay had him stumped. He had only written Crocus into the note. He never mentioned Oak in it, to avoid confusion. Maybe he should've worded it better. But he didn't feel relieved at Leona's sudden appearance. He felt just as the other self said. Eero wasn't angry, no. Just... Sad and disappointed. The boy didn't bother looking up at his guildmate as he slowly stood up. His legs felt incredibly numb and would feel incredibly sore in just a little bit. "If you didn't want to meet up, you could've just thrown that paper away." Eero would say in a strained voice. "Just.." He didn't know what he was going to say. "Forget about it. I don't care." The boy would say as he shook his head. He would then start walking ahead. He didn't care where he was going or if he bumped into other people. He just felt like he needed to move to sort his thoughts straight.

Re: [Job - Leona & Eero] Our End

Post by Leona Jarnefeldt on 11th September 2018, 12:31 pm

Leona went from apologetic to kind of angry. She had not hauled ass from Oak Town, dealt with bandits, and suffered moderate humiliation just to be brushed aside like this. It was true that Leona bent over backwards to help people and swallowed her pride a lot, but right now she was not feeling like being a doormat. She was tired from the trip, embarrassed by her reading mistake, and more than a little upset over the mix-up. Now was not the time to push her.

Eero's shift in tone and behavior was most likely brought about by Other Eero's words. Other Eero was a toxic person who kept Original Eero's self-esteem at rock bottom so that the latter felt like he needed the former to do anything. Leona wanted to find a way to end that influence, but the task might be beyond her. Original Eero would have to be the one to break the chains that Other Eero had placed on him. He would need help to do so, mostly someone to stay by his side and tell him that he was not worthless without a voice in his head.

Leona fought to keep the volatile emotional mixture under control, but Eero's statement and the tone in which it was delivered were not what she needed to hear. She had already admitted her mistake and apologized in front of a crowd even when it was humiliating for her to admit it. Now he wanted to give up and scrap the whole venture. NO. NOT TODAY.

Leona's teeth involuntarily clenched. He was not just going to tell her to forget it and walk away. They were going to finish what they had planned to do. She would knock him out and drag him by the legs to their destination if she had to. If Eero should had learned anything during their time together, the most important lesson was that the Ace was determined, even recklessly so.

Taking a deep breath, Leona strode up to the walking Eero and faced him. Like it or not, he was going to hear what she had to say. She had to keep her temper in check because they were in public.

"Look, Eero. I messed up. I admit it. But that's no reason to just give up." Leona started. She had to be careful because Other Eero would likely twist her words to turn Original Eero against her... not that twisting Leona's words was particularly hard to do. The blonde was not the most articulate or erudite speaker in Earthland, especially when emotionally charged.

"I'm not gonna waste your time with corny sayings and emotional appeals, so I'll be quick. What I'm saying is... I'm here for you now, Eero. Let's put this fiasco aside and do what we came here to do." Leona said to Eero plainly. She was not going to beg for his forgiveness, not when she had already apologized twice, and in public too. The blonde was not a clingy person who could not live without him. She had traveled alone numerous times and she could do it again.

Now the ball had been placed in Eero's court. He could accept her offer of help or he could refuse. It was his call. She would not beg. He would have to decide for himself what he wanted to do.

The boy was just walking. The inside of his head was a mess. He didn't know what to do anymore. His steps, however, were interrupted by someone stopping in front of him, making Eero himself halt. The boy looked up to be met face-to-face with his guildmate and she didn't look the happiest. She told him that she was there for him now and to put aside what had just happened. But how could he? He wanted to know if there was a dragon that was documented that would correspond to the dragon that trained him. /"But do you think you are ready to face the truth?"/ What truth? Eero ran his hands through his hair and clutched. Nothing made sense anymore. "I just want to be normal. I just want.." He would say quietly, hands in his hair, still. /"Are just going to run away?"/ He wanted to.

Eero's mind suddenly blacked out. Everything was black for a just a moment and then he felt a void not only in his memories, but in his heart, aswell. His face was frozen in shock as his knees gave out from beneath him and he struggled to keep his balance as he had semi-fallen down on the pavement. It felt like.. A part of him of missing. There was nothing. Just jet black emptiness where something used to be. But what could have been missing? His answer was answered once Eero looked up. Not too far away from the two mages stood a likeness of Eero. Somewhat taller, with slightly different hair and sharper face features. His face didn't hold any particular expression. His body, however, had an aura of swirling dark energy around it. The people around the mages jumped and some ran to get away from the dark aura Eero's other self was radiating.

The boy's legs felt like lead. No - his whole body felt like lead. He couldn't will himself to move. "Go ahead. Run away, just like you always do." His other would say, firmly, surprisingly without any malice hidden in his voice. The voice itself was somewhat deeper than Eero's. The other Eero didn't budge from the spot he was standing in as several guards appeared on the scene, creating a half-circle around the trio. They were armed with various melee weapons, having them drawn. "Do not move a muscle! Any of you!" One of them commanded in a strong and loud voice. "I'm not going to, unless you give me a reason to." Eero's other self would reply, calmly. The boy was slightly surprised by how level-headed he was. Did he knew something they didn't? Eero would slowly pull himself up again and dust off his hands. "Is this your shadow clone? Or some other magical being?" The same guard from just a moment ago would ask. Eero wasn't sure what to make of his other self's form. He looked to be physical enough, but quite there. He was somewhere in between those states. But Eero didn't doubt for a single second that his other self would unleash some sort of magical attack, if he felt threatened. "I don't know." The boy would admit to the guard. "But please, do not attack him." Eero wasn't sure if his plea would be heard, but he hoped it would. There was no telling what his other self would do if he was provoked.

Re: [Job - Leona & Eero] Our End

Post by Leona Jarnefeldt on 11th September 2018, 9:52 pm

Leona followed along silently, her emotions still in turmoil. On one hand, this whole incident was all her fault. It could have been avoided if she had just stayed put instead of running off to Oak Town on a misunderstanding. She could tell that Eero still felt betrayed by her actions, whether they were intentional or not. Nothing could change that.

On the other hand, Leona was frustrated with Eero for allowing Other Eero to influence his mind so easily. Had their adventure with Soho been just a waste of time? He had braved climbing a tree in the cold and in high wind to save a bird; Leona could not even climb a tree in calm weather without getting frightened. Did she spend all that time and effort supporting Eero just to see him give up in the face of a single lapse in judgment on her part? She did not know anymore.

Leona really wanted to talk to Other Eero and find out why he was so hard on Original Eero. Why did he push Original Eero so hard? Why was he so rude to him? What was the point of him being in Eero's mind? Leona had too many questions and not enough answers.

The situation changed when Other Eero manifested nearby. He was a taller version of Eero with a strong aura of dark magic and a vaguely sinister appearance. Leona was just about to speak to Other Eero when some guards ran up and formed a semi-circle around them. Great. That was a very bad way to deescalate the situation.

Leona recalled the dark magic coming up before, back in Spooky Forest when she had to retreat from the vine that had caught Eero. When she ran before she too could get ensnared by the vine, something happened and caused her guildmate used a powerful acid to melt the vine down. Was it Other Eero's handiwork? The magic signature now matched that of the one back in the forest. It was likely that Eero's alter-ego had used the magic.

Leona was more than a little annoyed by the arrival of the guards. She thought that helping capture the bandit gang on the outskirts of Capital Crocus would give her a tiny bit of leeway, but apparently that was wishful thinking. Things were already tense and then armed men came up and made demands. What was so bad that they had to arrive on the scene? Did the "argument" between Original Eero and Leona disturb the peace that much?

The blonde kept quiet for now. She was not going to deliberately raise the tension any higher than it already was. It seemed like the guards were not happy, but with who? Other Eero or Eero and Leona? She did not know and part of her was afraid to ask.

Leona did not reach for a weapon. She stayed still and waited for someone else to make the next move. Hopefully it would not be the wrong move, like pissing off Other Eero. The death vine in Spooky Forest learned that lesson the hard way with a burst of corrosive acid. She prayed that the guards would not convince Other Eero to spray them with acid and give Silver Wolf a giant black eye.

The guards shifted nervously and Leona stayed put. Eero was thankful that his guildmate didn't do anything rash. While he didn't think that his other self would do something volatile, it was for the best if they didn't push him. Some of the guards whispered among themselves. Eero could actually make out what they were saying with his better hearing. "So are we going to restrain it or what?" One of them asked. "I dunno. I honestly don't want to get close to it." The guard next to that one answered. "Can't we just leave them to their own thing? They're the mages. We probably couldn't do anything even if we wanted to." The first guard said and the quiet chatter spread among the semi-circle. Eero's other self must've heard them too, but he didn't budge from his spot. In fact, he didn't move at all. Eero could only assume that that was good, at least for the time being.

The very first guard suddenly spoke up. "Whatever this thing is, can you control it or restrain it?" He would ask, but Eero didn't know. "The citizens are uncomfortable and we cannot risk their safety." That was a valid concern. But could Eero do anything about it? His other self had his gaze fixated on him the whole time and even thinking about engaging the guards of the Capital Crocus would be a terribly bad idea. "We will get it sorted, don't worry." The boy would say, quite unconvincingly. And the guards responded by giving each other worried looks. That wasn't going great. "Look. We had a long day and everybody is on edge. I don't need these half-assed answers." Growled the first guard.

Sadly, he seemed to have a point. The guards looked rather tired and unwilling. They would rather call it a day already and switch shifts, rather than dealing with them. But what could Eero tell them? At this point, he didn't have any control of his other self's actions. And he didn't know how he could de-summon him or absorb him or call him back, since his other self was obviously not keen on returning to him. "He will not attack, unless you provoke him. Is that not enough?" The boy voiced his plea. To some guards it seemed enough, but not everyone was convinced. The whole situation was already incredibly awkward and uncomfortable for Eero as it was. He didn't need the guards to make it even worse than it already was, but he didn't know how.

Once more, he would have to selfishly turn to his guildmate. The boy didn't know whether Leona had an idea as to how to get rid of the guards. Well, he didn't know if she wanted to get rid of them. Maybe she felt safer with them around, now that his other self managed to manifest himself. Eero would subtly turn his head towards his guildmate. "Leona? I don't know if you want to, but can you help disperse the guards, somehow? Please?" He would practically beg Leona for help in hushed and slightly panicked voice. He knew that he was in no position to do something like that, but he saw no other option. Other than trying to reason with his other self, which he would probably have to do, if Leona would deny his plea or fail her attempt with the guards.

Re: [Job - Leona & Eero] Our End

Post by Leona Jarnefeldt on 12th September 2018, 9:36 pm

As upset as Leona was with her guildmate, she could not turn down an appeal from Original Eero. She liked the guy... in a completely platonic way. Despite his self-confidence issues, Original Eero was a good guy and could save the day when the chips were down. He could do a lot more than he gave himself credit for doing.

"I'll help, Eero." Leona said to him. She had promised to help him and she would keep her vow. Even if she did not care for his attitude earlier, he appealed to her for help and she would answer. That was what she did.

Leona noticed that the guards were not exactly eager to fight. That was fine by her. She did not want to fight if she did not have to right now. She was already busy dealing with strong emotions she had not felt in awhile. As the Ace of Silver Wolf, one of her responsibilities was to give the guild a good public face at all times, and one way to do that was to avoid needless fights.

"Look, we don't want trouble with you guys any more than you want to fight with us. We just want to go on our way without anyone getting hurt. And my friend Eero's not giving a half-assed answer. Don't provoke the other guy and everything should be fine." Leona addressed the guards. She would do what she could to defuse the tension in a way that did not involve violence. She was going to try and save the day without hurting anyone. Of course it all depended on Other Eero not deciding he had had it with everyone's issues and just poisoning everyone and everything within reach. If that came to pass, Leona had a rudimentary idea of what to do.

At first she would summon her harpies to try and lift him out of the city, but upon closer examination that would generate its own set of problems. If Other Eero spewed poison in mid-air that would likely spread the poison with greater ease, so using the harpies was not a very good plan to use. She needed another one. Maybe appealing to his fight-happy nature and using herself as bait to lure him out of the city would work. It was not the smartest plan nor would it be guaranteed to work, but if she could prevent an entire city from being poisoned, she would gladly risk her life to make it happen.

"What do you want us to do? Would you like us to leave the city and come back another time?" Leona asked the guards. Her highest priority was avoiding a conflict. Leona and Eero would return later if they had to, but Other Eero might come back as well. There had to be a better way of doing things, but the Ace could not think of any other options right now. If Original Eero had any ideas, now would be a good time to say them.

"Eero, if we were asked to leave, would you mind leaving here for today and coming back later?" Leona asked her guildmate.

Eero was insanely glad, when his guildmate agreed to help him out with the convincing of the guards. He was at the end of his wits, that was why he selfishly had to turn to Leona. He was glad that she stood up for him, although that slapped his self-esteem a little. He needed to stop relying on Leona to get him out of messes, such as these. He was thankful for her help, though, nonetheless. She also asked the guards whether they wanted them to leave, but then she turned to him with that question. Eero had no issues with leaving the city for the time being, but what of his other self? He would think that he was running away. if that happened, there was no telling what his other self would do. Yet he still nodded in agreement.

The guards shifted again and one by one, they lowered their weapons. The passerbies that gathered around them stepped back, still unconvinced. "Are you sure you can resolve this by yourselves, without getting any of the civilians injured?" The boy would nod, firmly. "We can." He would reply to the guard. "And we will." He would add quickly after. That was when his other self smirked. It was not an evil smirk, rather... A smirk that meant that he was pleased with something. "Find me and see the truth for yourself." His other self would say towards Eero. That reminded him of the missing part in his heart. He thought that he was slowly understanding the pieces that were appearing before him, but there were still empty spaces that left enough room for him to doubt. The guards exchanged slightly worried looks at his other self's statement. "If you dare." His other self would add and the black aura that had been swirling around him enveloped his body, transforming his into a sort of shade, with bright, white spots on his face, which Eero could only say that were the eyes. The guards were immediately at the ready again, but his other self didn't attack. He merely phased through the people and dashed away. The boy took a step towards the direction where his other self went, but he knew that he was far too fast for him in his current state.

The guards collectively sighed and put away their weapons. "I'll make sure to pass on a message to stay on a lookout for dark magical shades to the next shift." The first guard would groan and motion for the group to leave. After the guards left, the passing people around them lost interest in whatever was happening with the mages and the guards and slowly went on about their business. Eero himself would sigh. The situation had been defused, for the time being. His other self was still on the loose, though. While he didn't believe that he would harm anyone along his way, he was quite opposed to the idea of leaving his other self unattended for too long. On the other hand, he felt incredibly hungry and tired. And empty. As if a part of his very being was torn apart, never to be seen again. It was a feeling that he had trouble describing. "As much as I would like to pursue him right now..." The boy would begin as he fiddled with his hands. "I think we both need to recharge our energy. Unless you wish to keep going." Eero was able to go on, but he didn't know long that would last. The adrenaline was wearing off fast and his senses were becoming duller with each passing second. To Eero it seemed that Leona had been through some stuff herself, so he had a good hunch that she was exhausted herself.

Re: [Job - Leona & Eero] Our End

Post by Leona Jarnefeldt on 13th September 2018, 1:54 pm

Leona sighed with relief as the guards left and the crowd dispersed. The crisis had been defused with no one getting hurt. She felt physically and mentally drained from the ordeal. Other Eero had left without a fight but with some parting words for his host. They would just have to deal with Other Eero later, but for now, she just wanted to go.

"I don't think we should press our luck, Eero. Let's just go home. We'll come back another day." Leona strongly suggested to her guildmate. They would be wise to call it a day and go back to Silver Wolf Guild Hall, where an appearance by Other Eero would be much less trouble because his primary targets would be other mages who could readily defend themselves. There would also be fewer people to hurt because the guild hall was located in the middle of the Phoenix Mountains. She hoped that it would not come to that. Other Eero seemed to be more verbally aggressive than physically aggressive, but it might be a ploy designed to lull Original Eero and Leona into a false sense of security.

"At least we got something out of the day. For what it's worth, I managed to get a business card for Jobaasa's Rare Tomes. It might be a source of books for the guild." Leona said without much enthusiasm. She should be more cheerful, considering she had both managed to get a lead on the bookstore and avert a crisis involving Other Eero. But her good cheer was nullified by lingering memories of the recent conflict with Original Eero. Without external threats to divert her attention, her thoughts turned back to that brief squabble. Leona felt embarrassment, frustration, and resentment over the situation.

Leona felt embarrassed at the mistake that led to the conflict to start with. She felt frustration that Original Eero was willing to give up on the whole day after just one setback. She felt resentment towards him because she had felt all but thrown aside after she had apologized to him twice. Such strong feelings would not simply go away. The blonde would have to deal with them and work through them.

That would take time. Those strong feelings could not go away on their own. However, she would not go back on her pledge to help him. She had given her word and she would keep it. That had not changed, not even after the argument.

"Let's just go home." Leona repeated to Eero. She had had enough of the capital for today. She just wanted to go home and forget about this whole fiasco. Eero probably wanted to do the same thing. She could not blame him.

Just as Eero suspected, Leona was pretty tired herself. She shared a bit of information that she seemed to have acquired during her delay. The shop sounded interesting, but Eero was far too tired to be cheerful. His guildmate wasn't exactly enthusiastic while sharing the news, however. The boy suspected that he may have been the culprit behind that. It panged his heart, but there was nothing he could do about it at the time. He would let Leona get it all out after they sorted out this situation. Whether that would be verbally or physically, along with his formal apology. /"So much for not letting down your friends, huh? Such a dumbass..."/ He thought angrily, but nothing could be done. They could only deal with the consequences.

When his guildmate said once more to go home, Eero couldn't argue. Not that he wanted to in the first place. But he definitely felt anxious about leaving his other self run free. They would probably just go rest at the Guild and go search for him, but Eero didn't how patient his other self was. How long was he willing to wait for him? He reckoned that Other Eero wouldn't try and hide, so it was only a matter of time until they found him. Which they couldn't do in their current condition. "Let's go back." The boy would agree with his guildmate. But it was strange. He suddenly felt like he didn't have the right to call the Guild hall his home.
