It was nearly sundown when Mina decided that it was time for her to leave the city of Era and move onto the next town. With the shock happening the night before she knew that it would once again be safe for her to travel without fear of passing out. Mina gathered up what little things she had after paying the innkeeper and moved to the window to check to see if the coast was clear of any people. Even with it nearly being night she had noticed that the town seemed to flourish with people at almost all times of the day and would make it hard for her to leave without anyone seeing her. Tonight though there were only a few people out and once she saw the last person round the corner she paid the innkeeper and quickly made her way out the door.

Just as she was closing the door Mina felt something smack into her and knock Mina onto her hands and knees. Looking up she noticed a man sitting next to her on the ground staring not at her but at something behind Mina. The man, wearing what looked to be a solid orange one piece jumper suit, didn’t have a care in the world that he had just ran into something or someone. Instead the strange man gathered himself up as quickly as he could and bolted for the nearest alleyway disappearing from Mina’s sight as he rounded the bend in the road.

Angrily, Mina picked herself up off the ground and began patting away the dirt from her clothes. ‘The nerve of people in this town. Everyone’s got to be in such a damn hurry all the time.’ She knew that yelling at the man would be pointless as with the way he was running he was most likely already out of earshot and it would be just a waste of energy.

As she was checking her clothes for rips and tears she noticed two more men running up to her that seemed to have appeared out of nowhere the same way the orange man did. They came to a stop just in front of her and upon closer look Mina noticed the two of them bore the symbol of the Rune Knights. “Excuse us miss but have you seen a man dressed in orange running around here?” The man then raised his arm and hand to just above the height of Mina. “He would’ve been about yay tall.”

“Yeah the asshole just ran into me about a few moments ago. Knocked me clear off my feet.”

“Can you tell us where he’s gone then?”

The tone in the knight’s voice caught Mina’s attention. To her the man was nobody but to these Rune Knights the man seemed to be of some importance and quite possibly worth something to her after all. “Yeah I saw him go down that alleyway over yonder.” She pointed in the direction she had seen the man run after running into her. “But this late at night and with the way the two of you run you’ll most likely never catch him.” The other knight, who hadn’t said anything at all so far, seemed very upset at this comment as the one knight had to restrain him from interrupting. “Hooooweverrrrrr….I could help you out seeing as I’m used to being out at night…for a price that is.”

Mina watched as the two men turned away from her discussing amongst themselves what they should do. After a few short moments of grunts and arguing the knights shook their heads in approval turned back to the doll. “Alright…fine. We’ll pay you…but only if you capture him and bring him back alive. Once he’s in our custody we’ll give you the reward.”

Those were the exact words that Mina wanted to hear. “Don’t worry gents. It should only take me a couple of hours to get him. I’ll have him back before sunrise.” Without warning she turned from the knights and bolted into the air, the wind following her command as she floated just above the rooftops searching for the man.

After about thirty minutes of searching the town she came upon the man standing next to a window of a rundown house. She slowly floated down behind and was about to grab his shoulder when she noticed that the man appeared to be crying. Looking through the window Mina saw what looked to be a mother and her daughter sitting on a beat up old couch, the mom reading small book to the girl. ‘Judging from the way this man is acting this must be his family.’ She reached up and softly put her hand on the man’s shoulder. He looked at her but not in a shocked way but in a more depressed way. “Look I can give you thirty minutes but that’s all. Anymore and they’ll be suspicious.” The man’s faced gleamed with happiness as he gave Mina a quick hug before barging into the house and embracing his wife and daughter.

When the time was up the man said his goodbyes and quietly left with Mina. Seeing the small smiley on his daughter’s face warmed Mina’s soul as she knew it would most likely be quite a while before the family could be back together again. Mina then plucked the man from the ground and slowly floated their way back to area where she had left the nights. As she handed the man over to the knights she heard a quiet thank you before he started to walk away with the angry knight. Mina then turned to the other knight and held out her hand waiting for her payment. “Alright I did my job. Can I have my reward now?”

The man simply placed a small card in her hand and smiled. “Here…go to the prison in the morning and give the lobbyist this card and you’ll get your payment.”

Mina clutched the card in her hand and dropped her head. “Great…I gotta spend more time in the god forsaken place. Whatever…”
