    The Dragon's Challenge

    Page 30, post 727

The job posting was ominous, mysterious and out there as Indra had looked at it on the request board. Curious about it themselves, both Kage and Tailong were curious to see who the client was and the simple job was "show your potential." A test of the strength of some kind in this mysterious ruin.

Normally, Indra would ignore it but the reward for new abilities and power was all he needed for encouragement.

The location of Sky Tower was an odd natural phenomenon that created a magical spire that stretched out into the sky with almost no viewable end. As they flew upon the red dragon's back, they could see the tower from afar. Indra's body was buzzing with excitement at the promise to find a compelling foe or challenge. Whatever this mysterious challenger was, he seemed to have some flare to do it there.

"I got a baaaaaad feeling about this..." Tailong groaned in his larger form as they flew towards the tower. "Can't we just fly up to the top of the tower?"

Kage was the one to reply on behalf of Indra as he sat there, his eyes closed in meditation. "The request said to meet the client at the bottom. Besides, it doesn't even sound half as fun to just fly up there. The real good stuff is INSIDE the tower. Scaley dummy." the tiger Exceed grumbled.

"Next time you're flying on your own furball," Tailong grumbled, feeling more like a taxi than a dragon.

Indra, while he rested and conserved his strength for the mission to come. He knew there might be others drawn in. He hoped he could maybe fight others in this challenge, but there was no telling what would come from it all. In the past, he would have been upset to not know what to expect.

The air soon grew cooler as they reached the base of the tower. As Indra and Kage got off, Tailong shrunk back to his normal small size and sat himself down on Indra's shoulder. The client didn't say where exactly but they now stood at the base of the large spiraling white tower. It was well built with ancient reliefs and designs that continued up the walls. The actual tower looked as big as a city block, able to hold several people inside.

For the moment, he didn't see anyone until...

    "Well look who it is..."

Kessicia had decided to do something unique, something that many other wizards did but she hadn't really given any thought. Apparently the more... "respectable" way to earn jewel was to actually work for it. She had given some thought to use her abilities and gain some... money that way but thought better of it. If she was intending to gain riches and fame, she did not wish to start on the bottom with the harlots. No, the more efficient and notable means was taking jobs. Apparently there were people in the world that put out requests, looking for more appropriate people to handle dangers and issues.

So she had wandered around until she found herself an independent board, showing opportunity for any that dared take it on. After browsing the numerous papers pinned to the board, she decided on a... more than curious one. She'd be working with a partner to traverse a tower known as Sky Tower. Whatever dangers and trials awaited her there were to be surpassed and once they'd reached the top, they would receive their payment. It sounded fairly straight forward but these things rarely were. Once initiating it as her own, she asked for some directions from some overeager villagers and set out on her journey.

Imagine her surprise when she came upon the rising structure and spotted familiar faces. She had been offered a fur coat from one of those same villagers and was holding it close for warmth. Though her body ran hot, that did not make her immune to the elements. Her golden gaze scanned the tall building, her attention running downward until she spotted a trio of people. Two of them were all too familiar. "Indra," she cooed pleasantly as she walked up to him. "What a pleasant surprise. One might think you're following me," she teased her before turning her gaze to Kage. "Hello handsome. It's nice to see you again. And..." Her eyes set upon the dragon, her brows rising a tiny bit. "I don't believe we've had the pleasure. Kessicia," she said, introducing herself.

Sky's the Limit Empty Re: Sky's the Limit

Post by Suijin Azurestorm 31st January 2019, 1:37 pm

The sound of the woman's voice made Indra freeze for a moment, the sound unmistakable especially with how often she had 'screamed' during thier night together. Damn it that she approached from downwind so that he didn't smell her coming-- but it wasn't like she was an enemy. A light smile graced his face as he finally turned around to find Kessicia. "Really? Since I'M the one who got here first, I would think you would be stalking me, Miss "I cannot get enough of you" " He teased with a mild sigh since she was so insatiable last they met.

Kage blushed at the sight of her but couldn't help but purr at the sight of her as well, having remembered the mind-blowing moments they had. Of course, the most to really get whammyed most out of the show of the shocking succubus-mage was the little dragon Tailong as the tiny red dragon lit up with hearts in his eyes, not unlike Kage's did when they first met.

"H-hi! I'm Tailong-- mighty dragon of the sun. These two are my servants," the little dragon whistled-- immediately trying to downplay Indra and Kage-- which both glared at him angrily. "Perhaps we can talk more about my amazing exploits and your interests over coffee or--"

ZAAP! Indra gave a small flick of his finger which sent a 'mild' shock at the mouthy dragon that sent him flying and out of the boastful, lust-trance the dragon was in. Then again, it wasn't unusual behavior for Tailong to shamelessly hit on a beautiful girl and cozy up to her as a lovable 'pet dragon'.

"Stupid gecko..." Indra growled as he glanced back at Kessicia. "How are you, Kessicia? As much as I would love to enjoy your company in detail-- business before pleasure. " Indra replied as he pointed up towards the tower.

Tailong grumbled as he rose back up after being shocked and sent flying against the wall like a bug to a bug-zapper. Still, the dragon always ended back up on his feet quickly and fluttered around Indra angrily. Kage just snickered, agreeing when the mouthy dragon needed to be quiet.

However, as the two got reaquainted , a new person appeared on the scene. Someone cloaked in white and feathery garments as it drew closer. His or her face remained unseen but they were so quiet and the air so cold-- Indra didn't even sense their approach. It stood before them, like a ghost.

"YOu have arrived, little children. How fitting to find new... guinea pigs to test man's mettle." the robed person spoke, a touch of humor laced with a judgemental tone.

Ah, Indra. Ever the confident, self-involved man. He was the very epitome of an alpha male that damn near challenged anyone to say otherwise. But she couldn’t deny that many of his claims he could back up and his strength was more than a little impressive. He teased her back as she greeted him, addressing her by a pet name that she assumed was how he believed she felt. A impish smile wormed its way across her lips as she met his gaze evenly. “Is that so? I believe I was thoroughly satisfied by the end of our… encounter,” she said, both complimenting and undermining him in a flirtatious manner.

Kage himself was far too enamored with the sight of her to even speak but the dragon apparently named Tailong introduced himself in grand fashion as the dragon of the sun. He even went as far as to reference Kage and Indra as his servants and to ask if she’d be interested in learning more over coffee before the Lightning Dragon Slayer cut him off. She giggled and shook her head. “Poor Indra. Surrounded by all these charming men. It must put quite the strain on your ability to pick up women,” she said, glancing back at him and winking.

He asked how she was and explained that while he would enjoy getting reacquainted, he was here for business. “As am I. I find myself rather short in funds lately and decided to take part in some wizarding jobs. Quite the unique way of earning jewel but not one I am against. And I’ll admit – it eases my trepidation to do it with someone I know.” She wouldn’t have really been nervous with a new person at all but it did make introductions go a lot faster with someone already known.

But their momentary friendly banter was interrupted another person arriving. Their face was covered by their garments and the air seemed to drop a few degrees as they approached them. Kessicia stared at them as they welcomed them, though their words held little friendliness in them. In fact, being called a guinea pig was quite the opposite of what she desired in a new acquaintance. It reminded her of her times as a slave and her mouth deepened into a frown. “And how fitting to have a rudesby greet us without a merit of warmth or kindness after we’ve traveled so far,” she said back, turning to face the robed stranger.

A chuckle escaped from the robed figure. "I'm sorry... but since you all accepted my challenge to see how strong you are, its difficult for me not to have an authortarian sense of humor." the robed person said.

"If you call that humor," Tailong quippted as he soon flew up in the air and perched himself on Indra's shoulder. He then sniffed the air, and stiffened. Something smelled off to the dragon.

"Ah, another one of my kind-- well lesser, I imagine," he said in an amused tone, "But no matter. I am grateful for your presence."

Kage held his ground, being the braver as he glared at the stranger. Meanwhile, Indra kept calm but cautious at him. He was, without a doubt, the client who hired them. Still, Indra was getting kind of tired with shady clients and their hidden agendas. "Since you were expecting us, you might as well let us do good on our word. You wanted to test our mettle. YOu might as well be straight forward. "

As the tension and cold in the air rose slightly, the person chuckled. "Very well. My goal is simple. TO see if you humans are blessed with the power you were given. To think though, one of you happen to be a Dragon Slayer. That is a real treat." he said.

"Hey, How do you know that?!" Kage shouted for his master's defense.

"Never you mind, little Exceed," he said and rose a hand. "Since you all are eager to start, let us begin. You will face 9 challenges of both mettle and mind. Succeed, and you will proove your worth and win a boon worthy of your strength. Fail... and well you die."

It is then he raised a hand--- and a portal of red appeared below each of them. Before any of them could react, they fell in. THe last thing they saw before all would go dark would be the brightness of day, the flash of magic and the strange image of a long, winged snake-like beast stretching up to the heavens.

    ***

"Yeowch, who landed on my back?!" Tailong complained in the dark.

"Your back? My tail! SOmeone move!" Kage complained.

Indra slowly rose from his stupor and allowed his eyes to adjust. It was a bit dark at first, but the light warm glow had allowed them vision and warmed them up. "Ugh... Is everyone okay?" Indra asked.

"You mean getting trolled by a VERY distant relative and being thrown down a shaft to hell... peachy," Tailong replied, stretching out his serpentine back a bit.

Indra slowly looked around to find they were 'underground' of some sort. The glow of fire could be seen from orphasics in the odd room. There were no doors, no windows or anything beyond a dome ceiling.

"This is more of a guess on intuition, but I got a feeling we are inside the tower. Why the hell are dragons so thrilled about theatrics, " Indra growled as he kicked a pebble down the room.

"Ha!" Tailong quipped, "You wanna go there, Mr. cant stand anyone stealing his thunder?"

Indra glared at Tailong, but kept his cool for the sake of finding a way out of this place. No doubt this was one of the challenges the robed figure mention. But it was clear now that Tailong could tell-- it was a dragon. Though a brief vision of its true form , they now were in its little game. If they failed, they would die.

Whoever this robed figure was, they clearly didn’t mean well for the merry band of adventurers – if that’s what one could call them. Kessicia kept her eyes trained on him, her normal pleasant exterior cooled by the frosty attitude of the supposed aggressor. He stated that the challenge of the tower was assumingly his and that in being so, it made the situation all the more humorous. Tailong spoke up, which caught the attention of the robed figure and revealed that the smaller dragon was similar in kind. Her eyes widened a fraction – was this stranger a dragon then?

Indra spoke up, claiming that dancing around the subject was pointless and it would be easier to simply get to the point. The stranger had put forth a challenge to them and Indra was ready to get the test started. Kessicia tapped into her power, small crackles of magic energy dancing around her fingertips. She wasn’t exactly the strongest of fighters but she could help make Indra all the stronger while, hopefully, weakening their prey. There was a brief, dangerous exchange as the stranger outlined that they were curious to see how humans handled the power they had. They also seemed to pick up on Indra’s magic, which was no surprise given that it had already named itself a dragon.

Nine challenges awaited them and before any of them could act or question the tasks, the ground opened up in the form of shimmering red portals. The group fell inside and as Kessicia looked skyward towards the opening, she could make out a dragon-like form flapping its hefty wings and making for the cloudy sky above.

They didn’t fall for long but the landing was not soft nor pleasant. Kessicia hit the floor with a grunt and lay there for a few moments, letting the air swell her lungs back to shape after the hard fall. They were in complete darkness for a brief moment and as Kessicia shifted to get up, she reached out for something to grab ahold of to help her up. What she found was not exactly what she was looking for at the moment and she retracted her hand instantly. “Apologies, Indra. I didn’t mean to grab you without warning,” she explained as she put her hand on the ground instead and used that to get up. As her vision adapted to the low light, she could make out braziers hanging on the walls, lighting their supposed path. Despite being underneath the ground – and within the tower, as Indra believed, she found herself much warmer here than above. She pulled her cloak from her body and wrapped it around her waist, now far more comfortable than she had been before.

“Perhaps our time would be better spent investigating than arguing?” She offered to the party, as Indra and Tailong seemed far more interested in getting the last word in. Bickering right now was pointless, given that 9 challenges now awaited them ahead. It was far better that they put aside their egos and push forward, if anyone of them wished to get out of here alive.

Indra didn't mind the accidental grope. They done much worse in the previous weeks before... but that was a story for another time.

Upon closer examination, despite no real exit or portal to get out-- there was a gleaming red gemstone that hovered in the center of the room. A crystal to be more clear. It gleamed with significance as if it was the way out.

"Oooh shiny!" Tailong whistled and fluttered towards it.

Kage frowned as he wrinkled his cat-like nose. "Why am i not surprise the dragon goes after the gem without thinking." he meowed.

Tailong flew right for the crystal-- till soon one of the small holes flared up with light-- and a pillar of fire shot right out in front of him. "WHAA!!" Tailong cried as he soon saw several pillars of flame shoot out, which caused him to immediately dart in the opposite direction. The flames chased him a bit but stopped as the dragon's little tail glowed with a light bit of flame on the tuff of his tail-fur. He soon joined the others and gently blew out the tip of his tail.

Indra just rolled his eyes as he saw the pillars come from the floor. "I think I got this..." he grumbled as Tailong tried to nurse his hot tail.

Indra crouched down like a sprinter as he focused on the gem. He didn't need to do much more as he took a deep breath and charged forward.

His reflexes were far quicker and lightning fast, but the flames would soon rise up below him. He soon was surrounded by three thick pillars that rose up and would grow to sear him. However, in that instant-- his body glowed as bright as lightning and dashed away. IN a blink of lightning, he was gone now darting in a zig-zag pattern to and from the platform. He darted as a bolt of lightning, evading the fire just seconds behind him. Finally with one last 'teleport' he jumped right in front of the crystal.

Upon contact, there was a sudden flash of fire and the pillars winked out. The room became more lighted from the crystal's glow, allowing them to see more.

A sigh escaped Indra as he now had secured the crystal.
