Kyoto in Flames: The Siege of Kyoto (Mission/Deca)

Standing on one of the roof tops, a cool breeze rolled through Ardere's cloak. The town of Kyoto, one of the three towns in Fiore dedicated to replicating his home of Midi. The other two towns being Karakuri and Hosenka, both lovely towns. However, Kyoto was smaller than the other two. Thus when an invasion force rolled in, they did not have many options other than calling in two powerful mages. The guild master of Infinity Hydra, Ardere Kasai, and the former guild master of Eclipse Sou, Deniel. The two had been on a mission before, and when they fought the elemental deity they had performed quite well together. Today, they would be saving this town and perhaps the entire country. Crouching down on the roof, he examined the large force of perhaps fifty men marching through. Buildings were on fire, as arrows flew and swords clashed. Smoke and ash riddled the sky, which he would no doubt have to take care of, seeing as he was the flame god slayer. It had been a long time since he had seen a true battle such as this, and it was time to put an end to it. Rather than cutting through the force, we should go around them. We'll run into some guards, but at least we'll get to the tower before then. We need to stop Hanzo before he resurrects Ryu. Ready to go Deniel? Looking to his partner, he would shift his gaze towards the intricate Mystic Tower. It was a gorgeous tower, perhaps the largest of the great towers in Fiore. It was unfortunate he had to come back under such dire circumstances, and see the burning flames of Kyoto. A sigh escaping his maw, his white teeth would grind against each other for a moment. They had no choice other than to fight. If the man known as Hanzo resurrected his ancestor, then they would be facing the Fire Lord. Unfortunately for him, the Fire King had arrived with a friend of his. Kyoto was not going down without a fight. Sword on his back, red Samurai armor covering his body, Ardere was ready for war. His red head band flapping in the wind, flames was how this began, and how it would end.

Draped in a jet black cloak extending down to his lower legs just beneath his knees, the red eyes of the Nephalem intensely glanced down at the smoldering village of Kyoto. Strange, to think that this was a location in Fiore he had never been in; the Nephalem was under the assumption that perhaps he had seen all of it, and clearly he was wrong. Yet why had he not even heard about it? Closely resembling Karakuri City, the city just beneath the Guild Hall of Eclipse Soul, a visit to this place could perhaps give him a feeling of nostalgia. Unfortunately, all he could see was smoke-induced air stimulated by intense amounts of fiery embrace. Numerous Kyoto guards fought at a disadvantage against fire enhanced weaponry and tools, giving their best effort at holding off against them. Obviously if they were fine with the predicament, the two mages of Ardere and Deniel would not be called upon, yet they were. Crouched down with his cloak moving in unison with the wind atop the roof, the Nephalem could very easily blend in with the shadows or be mistaken for a gargoyle given his position. Crouched beside Ardere, the two of them had only been up there to hide their presence and be given the element of surprise, to which Ardere strategically induced that they head around the large force rather than go through them. The Nephalem was very eager to test out his newly acquired abilities on small fries, yet he had to admit that Ardere was right; they should take their advantage while they have it.

Momentarily staring at his partner--and ally if considering their alignment between Guild Master and Guildless--the Nephalem nodded. "I'm ready. Let's go!" Swiftly propelling himself from the rooftop to the next, the Nephalem's cloak shielded himself with the shadows that covered the area surrounding the fiery buildings of the city; for there was intense light, but that also conjured intense darkness, especially with the time of night. Moving swiftly and as silently as he possibly could--with combat boots not necessarily making for the best form of stealth--the Nephalem embarked across the ninja-styled rooftops, and keeping a close eye around him and below for any guards. His sword Nidhogg no where to be found, the Nephalem had brought his companion with him, but had not unveiled him quite yet; that would be for later. As he reached the edge of a roof, before leaping, the Nephalem had made a wise decision of looking towards the left, which caused him to quickly jerk his body backwards and nearly tumble down. A group of soldiers and guards of the enemy's side swiftly marched down between the buildings with each other, giving excited shouts of anticipation for bloodshed. Assuming they had passed by--and having good reason to do so, the Nephalem beckoned his partner to follow once again as he leaped across the building to the other, heading towards the Mystic Tower. But just as they revealed themselves with their jump, a soldier lagging behind had briefly glanced in their direction, and suspiciously noticed the two figures...

Their stealth was very exceptional, no doubt about that. But you cannot outlast a ninja for long. Sooner or later, they would be caught. Perhaps sooner than anticipated.

His warm breath trailing into the wind, Ardere nodded. Ikimashou. Speaking in his native Midian tongue, the fire mage was ready to go. Unsheathing the red long sword known as Clarent, some of the light from the flames would reflect off of the blade. It was not a Samurai's blade, but he would use it as such. Swinging the blade to the side, smoke and dust would lift upwards into the heated air. This was his signal to go, and he would do so. Dashing across the roof top, they had quite the ways to go before they got to the tower. While it towered above them, it was across the village. Fortunately the two mages were quite fast, and they would be able to use the smoke as a guise. Hopefully the soldiers and the shinobi would not sense their presence. Feet lightly tapping across the roof, he could not run at full speed without stomping across the roof. The tactic he chose to take was dashing on the tips of his toes, attempting to hide within the smoke. While the shinobi and the soldiers were not particularly strong, the last thing they needed on their hands was an army chasing them through the city. If they drew too much attention, the city would receive back lash. The tower is across the way, let's hope we don't draw too much attention. His whispered words would travel towards his partner, presumably not too loudly. With the soldiers marching throughout the town, and the flames traveling from building to building, they had to be quite careful. And much to his dismay, they had been noticed. It was not a grand commotion, but the soldier would signal to a squad of men. Six ninjas, also known as shinobi, would leap onto the roof top. Three for Ardere, and three for Deniel. Each was armed with an arsenal of kunai and shuriken, presumably infused with fire magic. Looks like we've been made. Try not to destroy the roof, friend. Lifting up his sword, he would swiftly charge towards the three ninjas. Engaging them in combat, he deflected several shuriken strikes before slashing open one of the men. They were fast, but not fast enough. He would make quick work of them, deflecting projectiles as they came his way. Sword and kunai clashing, the roof was riddled with scratch marks. This was the beginning of war.

Nearing the Mystic Tower, although still quite some distance away from it, a few distant memories flooded the Nephalem of another time he had visited the Mystic Tower, though not the village of Kyoto itself. They were faint and distant, ones that he long since forgot about, but in some ways he could recall what they had been a bout; a job in which he had to save someone from a cult of crazy sun-mages. Though that was all that came to mind. Shaking himself back into reality, he and Ardere were making some steady progress towards the Mystic Tower. Abruptly the two mages had found themselves surrounded by six ninjas wielding weapons suited for their particular class. Three on one odds certainly wasn't the worst that the Nephalem had faced, so intimidation and fear was something that he could not feel given the situation. A Full Take Over could easily wipe them out, but would draw far too much attention; he need to resort to much more practical means. Besides, using only his natural skill and sword was something he had wanted to do for such a long time, and could give him a perception of how much he had naturally grown stronger rather than Magically.

A shuriken thrown at him, the Nephalem deflected it very easily with a swing of his sheathed sword. Approached with an armed ninja and a kunai, the Nephalem gave him a very swift whack to the face with the hardened scabbard, as to work towards knocking him out rather than killing him, a habit he was seeking to mend. Dodging another swift close-quarters strike, the Nephalem countered with another whack of his scabbard. Sensing something from the corner of his eye, the Nephalem reacted on his natural reflexes to narrowly dodge a shuriken coming his way, to the point where his cheek still had a cut. His natural reflexes and speed were fairly astounding, it seemed.... they had not failed him. He got a sense of his own skill, but the true fight had only just begun. And it was not with these guys. He needed to finish them off soon.

Steel deflecting off of his blade, a kunai would stick directly into the ground. Ardere gritted his teeth slightly, as it appeared the Shinobi before them were not giving up any time soon. Gripping the handle of Clarent tight, he leaned in ever so slightly. Dashing across the roof, tiles scattered behind him as he struck through two kunai to slash open the ninja blocking his path. Kicking the other one off of the roof, he slung his body to the side to dodge sharp steel coming his way. Let's get out of here, quickly. Keeping the long sword in his hands, his boots would leave the roof top, and soon find themselves stomping across another. The red tiles were not easy to run across, but his speed helped make up for that. With an entire squad after them, they would not find their way to the Mystic Tower easily. Ninjas were not like Samurai, they would lurk in the shadows and wait to strike. Ninjas being his natural enemy, the fire mage could not help but be some what wary. So persistent. Leaping from roof top to roof top, he could hear the projectiles slicing through the air. His slayer senses would come in handy at a time like this, and another important aspect as well. He could not eat all of the flames, as it would draw too much attention. The guild master opened his mouth and sucked up streams of fire almost like noodles or spaghetti, consuming them and converting their power into his own mana. He did not have much use for it yet, but some extra mana could not hurt. Gazing off into the distance, arrows shot through the air. It appeared that battles between the town militia and the ninja were already starting. Landing on top of one of the watch towers, he could get a grander look at the city. The sky was black from the smoke, and red from the flames. Kyoto in flames. They were the only words he could use to describe it, as a kunai flew past his cheek. Narrowly dodging it, he would deflect another. Glaring towards the source, he spotted two ninja. Yare yare.

Knocking away a kunai-equipped ninja away from him, and down to the ground, Deniel deflected another shuriken that headed straight for him. He was slowly getting used to fighting in his natural state, and in some ways it was refreshing. This way he could measure his natural strength and either be satisfied with himself...or not so much. And so far, he was satisfied with how things were turning out. Disarming one of them that came in for close quarters and knocking him right down on the tiles of the roof with a hard crash, Deniel agreed with his partner to flee for now. Fighting too long would draw attention to themselves, or worse. With his katana still sheathed, the Nephalem propelled himself off of this rooftop and on to the next, kicking tiles back at the ninjas that followed them persistently. "Damn..." he faintly muttered to himself. Performing a sharp or movement in some cases as to dodge some of the projectiles that his perky ears could slightly pick up the sound of--beneath the sounds of crackling fire, rising smoke, and distant battles--the projectiles flying behind them. He tailed Ardere very closely in their attempt to outrun the ninjas, or perhaps force them to give up in some instances.

Following them even to the guard tower, it seemed as though they were still keen on following them. And given the projectiles that flew at Ardere, and one of them even coming his way--which he deflected using his sheathed sword--either they had sent in backup, or they were being surrounded. Regardless, the Nephalem wasn't about to wait and find out. "Come on!" He called to Ardere as he sprinted for the two ninjas that threw their shurikens at them. Swiftly dropping down to a slide, the Nephalem brought down one of the ninjas along with himself. Using him as a shield as they darted for the ground, he managed to knock out the ninja with the impact and give himself a safe landing, one in which he would use to try and take a direction the ninjas following behind them would not head to. The rooftops were getting too risky, so perhaps the ground would work out. Luckily for him, they were not near one of the burning buildings, so the shadows worked effectively to conceal him...

Responding to the words called out by his team mate, Ardere's heart began to race. He was not afraid, that was not it. He was concerned for the town, and he did not want to be caught by the entire platoon of men. Sliding down the roof, he swept his sword to the side to take out the ninja blocking his path. Following suit with Deniel, he used this as a shield and a form of concealment. The take over mage had the right idea, the ground would be more useful at this point. The enemy expected them to use roof tops again, but the two wizards landed on the ground and stealthily moved through the village. Into the shadows and the night they would go, as the sun began to set upon Kyoto Village. His Moon Amulet hidden beneath the Kasai armor he donned, shimmered slightly. It had been quite some time since he used it's powers to his advantage. It was not quite yet, but the darkness would be their ally once it was upon them. For now, they would need to make it to the tower before the sun had set. If not, it was likely that Hanzo would resurrect Ryu by then. Gritting his teeth, the Fire King narrowed his eyes. Slashing right through a ninja of the flames, he took to an alley way. We're getting closer to the tower, let's stick to these alley ways. The world around them was on fire, as the ninja paraded through the city. They were being tailed, but not by a significant force. Deflecting multiple projectiles, he spun around to slash open the stilts connected to an under construction building. The wood and supplies stationed around the building for the workers to use, would fall upon several Shinobi, crushing them. He did not like to kill, but these men were slaughtering families and burning all in their path. His only choice was to put them out of commission, or kill them. He tried to avoid this, but their darkness was overwhelming here. As a fire mage who chose the side of light, he could not stand for this. Staring down the Mystic Tower, he had only one goal in mind; to win.
