“And the next opponent for the blazing haired maiden will be none other than Halon Hammerfist!” The crowd roared in excitement as the poorly lit basement shook with anticipation. At the room’s center Nymara stood. Bloody, bruised, and absolutely smashed. Evident by the stupid smile across her purple lip. The muddy floor sloshed as an enormous being climbed over the short fence separating the crowd from the arena and confidently strode towards the center. “Aye, you lookin to get some of- hic what they had..??” Nymara spouted somewhat groggily as she tilted her head to get a better fixture on her foe. Clearly a native to Joya, judging by his obvious animal-like features. Though Nymara may have been trying to guess what animal he was for too long, as she didn’t even hear the starting bell before feeling a fist full of power straight to her jaw. Her entire mind felt like it shifted into another dimension as the drunken dragon slayer was absolutely thrown to the ground by the power of that punch! Taking a moment to reorientate herself the redhead hazily looked at the bloodthirsty watchers as they shouted and cheered for the fight to continue. Many of which had bets placed on her, so they were particularly loud when demanding she get up out of the mud and return the favor. Her adversary Halon simply scoffed and made no move to stop the girl as she tried and failed to get back onto her feet a few times, though eventually she regained her balance with the help of the railing. Still smiling, Nymara breathed rapidly as she stared the native down, her stupored mind still trying to plot her next move before she felt the sudden push of the crowd directly behind her! Impatient, they shoved the girl straight towards her foe! He responded by swinging his arm straight towards her face, hoping to land a straight hit as she was sent towards him! Her enhanced reflexes kicked in however, Nym barely able to hastily duck just as the man’s fist swung overhead! Now behind the Joyan, Nymara responded instantly with a few quick jabs to the ribs, ducking again as Halon swiftly spun around with his other arm! Thankfully the slim physique of the girl allowed her to weave her way through the much heavier strikes of her foe. Following up every dodge with a counter attack before moving out of the way again, she was consistently wearing him down. The much larger man was certainly capable of tanking a lot of hits from Nymara’s fists, though with his continued efforts to throw all of his power at her behind every strike he was obviously feeling the strain. Finally after what felt like an eternity Nymara’s last strikes caused the man to fall to one knee, holding his bruised ribs for a moment and giving her the perfect opportunity! Throwing all her remaining strength the girl launched her power into a punch to the jaw! Halon was thrown onto his back instantly, though the momentum of the strike also caused the hammered redhead to lose her balance and also fall over soon after.

The crowd fell silent for a moment as both contenders lay quiet on the ground before them and the winner was unclear. Though after a few moments Nymara groggily raised a bandaged thumbs up as her face lay in the mud. The basement erupted with cheers of triumph as Nym slowly pushed herself up off the ground, her face covered in dirt. Though that did not deter the celebration from herself as she realized she had just won! “AHHA! *hic-* Drinks on me!” She yelled to the watchers as they only celebrated harder. What a fun bunch, and their alcohol wasn’t half bad. Nymara could confidently say she had never been to Joya before, though as different as their people and culture may have been from her native Fiore they shared some amazing similarities. For one was the fighting tournaments! Initially when Nymara got the message from Akemi that the two of them were going to be assisting in some peace agreement several countries over she wasn’t exactly sure what to think, though as Lucky was quick to point out to her it would be a great opportunity to see some of the outside world. Personally Nymara wasn’t really sure what he meant by that, as Nym felt her home of Fiore was pretty varied, though the girl had no hostilities towards this plan either. Of course the trip wasn’t exactly the greatest, the dragonslayer dealing with her intense motion sickness nearly the entire way over. Thankfully that was in the past and she could work on forgetting about it completely with the help of the local poison! Of course when she found out the tavern also hosted tournaments of fighting prowess in its basement she couldn’t resist! Bare Knuckle boxing had always been an immense hobby of Nym, and to think they did it here as well made her way more excited! Of course it didn’t come at a price, as Nym had to make sure to vanish when Lucky wasn’t paying attention. She figured the prissy kitten would say something if he caught her blowing off steam. Not to even mention Akemi. Luckily the day had been very quiet and rather boring so far, so the redhead thought it appropriate to investigate the local taverns.

Who in their right mind had decided to build that palace between the two mountains?

Akemi stared up at the construct from a distance, her golden eyes sharp enough to take in the details even from so far away. Although she didn't need to make out the individual planks and stones to wonder just what kind of absolute madman had designed that building, and which other lunatics had then agreed to actually build it. She wasn't an architect, far from it, but she did know a thing or two about how gravity worked and she knew that things liked to go down. So whoever had built that monstrosity which dangled up high in the sky, only held aloft by the two mountains that rose far above the rest of the city, either had immense confidence in their skills as an architect or they'd let their sense of grandeur overwhelm and obliterate any sense of realism they might have held before.

Well, the only thing she could really do was stay far away from it so it wouldn't fall down on her head if and when something went horribly wrong. She hadn't come here to take charge of the city design, after all. She was here because important things were happening on an international scale and she wanted to keep an eye on that. That, and she was interested in the nation of Joya.

The raven-haired assassin wandered through the streets as she considered the peculiar region. For reasons unknown Joya was populated not by humans or elves but by a wide variety of beastfolk, each having the base structure of a human but augmented and altered with traits of other animals to a greater or lesser extent. They didn't appear to be limited to a specific type of animal either, although most of them seemed to be mammals... But supposedly there were much more reclusive clans with non-mammalian traits, so that told her nothing. The only conclusion she could draw was that whatever force had brought these people into being hadn't been particularly picky.

Whether it was pure coincidence or related Akemi didn't know either, but the people of Joya also had a rather primitive culture, as if their animalistic side made them prefer a less modernized approach to civilization. The various different types of beastfolk formed their own clans and those then governed themselves and the region they happened to occupy, with only a loose government overlooking the entire thing. Oh, and religion played a large role here: from what she'd read about the place the second-highest position in a clan, next to chief, was a priestess.

As backwards as these cultural traits might be, they made Joya an interesting place to visit and study. It also had a lot of beautiful scenery and flora and fauna which couldn't be found anywhere else. Although admittedly Akemi's interest was more in studying the natives. Were they nothing more than humans whose physique had been altered by magic? Were they a completely different kind of creature which had developed similar traits to humans because said traits were convenient? Was it a common ability for them to be able to turn into animals? Take Over seemed to be a popular magic type here, but she wasn't sure if it was innate or not.

She sighed as she looked around at the very blatant lack of a redheaded companion. She'd told Nymara that they were going to Joya to help keep the peace while the politicians did their thing. Not the most interesting of jobs, but it was an opportunity for both of them to learn more about this place. That and it paid pretty well, all things considered. Unfortunately, instead of meeting up with her Nymara was nowhere to be found. Before she could resume her pondering Akemi would have to find her apprentice and explain that she was actually supposed to be part of the patrolling.

The assassin quietly sniffed the air, a three-dimensional map of scents unfolding in her mind's eyes as she took in all the smells (a lot of them rather unpleasant). Where was Nymara's scent... If she found out that the redhead hadn't even arrived yet she was tracking the younger slayer down even if it meant leaving Joya and returning all the way to the guildhall in Fiore. She didn't want to dictate every part of Nymara's life but she wouldn't take kindly to a direct instruction being ignored.

Fortunately, she caught a faint scent belonging to the firebrand of an apprentice she'd taken on. It was already an hour old, so she'd have to track it to the owner. Making her way through the crowds Akemi kept an eye on what was happening around her even as she followed the scent. As she got closer to the origin more details were revealed to her. Nymara hadn't been here for long yet, but she'd already found herself a bar despite the fact that she should be on alert. More importantly, Akemi could smell blood...

And that she was being followed.

At first, it might have been a sheer coincidence, a group of people who were just going in the same direction, but after a while, the coincidence became too big. Their pace matched hers, including when she came to a halt to memorize her surroundings. It sounded like hooves, so most likely natives. Not a horse, no pattern that matched the movement of a quadruped. No goat or anything else either. These were bipeds. The big question was, why were they following her? They didn't give off a sense of strength, but they could be hiding it like herself.

Akemi didn't take long to make up her mind and move into an alley, one with lots of shadows and with quite some length to it so it would take at least a minute to reach the other end at a walking pace. As a stroke of fortune, this path also got her closer to Nymara.

First things first, however. The dark claw mage turned her head as she felt the grass underneath her boots rise up and wrap around her ankles, attempting to hold her in place as a small handful of ramfolk entered the alley behind her. "I assume you've got a reason for this?"

"You're one of those outsider hunters, aren't you?" The one in front, a doe of average height said with some confidence. "We can't have you outsiders getting in the way, so if you'll be so kind as to give us your valuables we'll bring you to the edge of the city and you can leave in peace."

Akemi wasn't entirely sure what to make of this, her eyes narrowing slightly as she studied the robbers. They had some kind of plan? She still could not pick up on any signs of them actually being dangerous. Should ehs play along or coerce them into spilling the beans? Or just dismiss that doe's words as bravado and move on with her day.

"Well? Are you going to-?" "I decline. Instead, tell me what you're planning." She spoke up without concern for the fact that the one who trapped her was still talking, shutting her up through sheer pigheadedness. The ramfolk seemed taken aback for a moment. "I'm not going to tell you that! Agree to leave or we'll make you!"

Coercion it was. Akemi motioned for one of them to approach, taunting them with her casual attitude and her apparent lack of concern. One of them, a larger man with impressive horns, walked forward while motioning with his hands for the ground underneath to rise further up and completely encase Akemi's legs. Once he got close enough, however, he'd be met with a surprise.

Akemi's bandaged hand shot out and grabbed him by the neck, lifting him off the ground and then tossing him aside. Akemi followed up on this by reaching down and grabbing some of the dirt on the ground. She threw it at the others, aiming for their eyes so they had to raise their arms to shield their face from the admittedly rather meaningless assault. But as they were blinding themselves to avoid being blinded by the dirt Akemi forcefully pulled one leg out of the snare, then the other, then dashed forward until she was right in front of the leader of the bunch.

"Tell me what I wish to know or I'll send you flying." An empty threat, strangely enough: she wouldn't have objections to doing just that on a personal level but it wouldn't be good for the peace talks if the streets of the city got swept up in a riot of sorts. Fortunately the doe didn't require much more convincing as she quickly replaced. "Uhm, well... I don't know much, actually, just that we're going to be overthrowing the stuffy old system and replace it by one that looks after the people and keeps outsiders from messing things up."

"Thanks. Now scatter before I decide I don't want you running around talking about this meeting." All of them, including the one she'd tossed, didn't need much time to make up their mind: within seconds Akemi was alone in the alley, with the soft sound of hooves on dirt disappearing in the distance. Not very impressive people then. Not important. She had to collect Nymara.

Hastening her step, Akemi left the alley and homed in on the tavern which housed Nymara's scent. The scent of blood also became stronger, but she could distinguish between the bloodletting caused by lethal combat and the blood of people beating each other up. There were some subtle differences in how the scent presented itself. That, and she knew what Nymara was most likely doing down there.

Entering the tavern it didn't take her long to find the door leading to the basement. With all the people downstairs yelling and cheering it would have been difficult for her not to notice. Despite her metal boots she didn't make a sound as she descended down the stairs and slipped into the crowd surrounding the arena, where she'd already seen a flash of vivid red. Lovely, to be sure, but in the wrong place.

"Having fun, I see?" She called out once she was close enough that it would be impossible for Nymara's sharp ears to not hear her, even amidst this rabunctuous crowd. Anyone who tried to shove Akemi would find themselves deftly avoided or deflected while the assassin just kept walking onwards as if the other people in the room weren't there. Well, aside from Nymara.

"We're here to patrol the city, not to have fun beating people's lights out. I hope you haven't forgotten yet." Akemi folded her arms in a very familiar manner as she waited for Nymara's response, tunning out the arguments the other people made as they weren't happy with her apparently coming here to drag Nymara away. Luckily they weren't so careless as to become physical just yet, but if they didn't calm down Akemi might have to knock some heads to make it clear this wasn't up for debate, and that this matter was between herself and the redhead.

Post by Nymara 25th January 2022, 1:45 am

Oh this was bad. Very bad. Lucky frantically scanned the various rooftops and streets, looking desperately for any sign of his ward. The armored cat didn’t seem to care that he stook out in the sky, making an easy target for any would be attackers. Of course he had originally come to Joya with the intention of aiding his master in the guard duty of this historic event, but as luck would have it Nymara was nowhere to be found! The cat had already checked the local clinics and other would be medicinal centers within the capital city, though they had reported no sign of the redhead. It was worth a shot, seeing how Nymara’s condition during the train ride into Joya treated her. Lucky had heard the rumors that Dragonslayers were particularly prone to motion sickness, and he was able to confirm this suspicion first hand as he patted the girl’s back while she vomited out the train window. Thankfully Lady Akemi hadn’t been a witness to the site, otherwise he feared his master would have more than her disappearance today to live down. As for the reasoning behind her sudden vanishing Lucky couldn’t even comprehend! It wasn’t even 10 minutes off the station that the striped feline had lost track of his ward. One moment she was leaning over a trash can trying not to hurl out the rest of her stomach, and the next she was gone! Unforgivable! Surely she knew that they were here on an important mission, and not for sightseeing? Regardless, no amount of inner cursing would return Nymara to his site, so the feline did the only sensible thing and took to the skies to find her! Normally he wouldn’t care as much what Nymara did, though after some sketchy conversation he overheard from some of the locals he felt it was a necessity that either Nymara or Lady Akemi were notified immediately of this newfound plot

Nymara was lost in thought as the crowd cheered and praised her most recent victory, the dragonslayer giving them all a toothy smile as she raised her fist in triumph to their yells of approval. Of course whether this was caused simply by Nymara earning the lucky betters a few extra jewel (or whatever the Joyan equivalent was) or due to the fact she offered up her winnings to pay for the next round of drinks was unknown. Likely both, although the girl would have little time to revel in the newfound love of her fans as an extremely familiar and rather dangerous scent entered her nose. As if a ghost had clamped down on the shoulders of the young dragonslayer, Nymara’s back instantly tensed and her senses flared with stress when Akemi’s words finally hit her ears. Perhaps the worst case scenario had just unfolded before her eyes, and she was powerless to stop it. Slowly turning to face the familiar serious expression of her mentor, Nymara instead took a rather nervous and apologetic tone to Akemi’s words. “O- OH hey! *hic* I would never forget something as important as this!” She said somewhat haphazardly, obviously trying to mask both her drunken state of mind and the truth behind her words. “W- Was simply testing out the local’s strength!” She said with a more cheerful expression this time, looking over at her unconscious opponent before chuckling. “Turns out they have a lot of it!” Nymara nearly hiccuped again before grabbing onto the railing to support her weight. Ignoring the cries of protest Nymara would understand where things were going now and she’d climb over the railing to stand next to Akemi. “But guild work comes first, right?” She said in an attempt to smooth over the situation. Truth be told she was surprised and considered herself to be lucky that Akemi only called her out when the match was over. She had half expected her mentor to intervene with a shadowy claw of darkness had she discovered the fire dragon practicing in the tavern’s basement. Thankfully this seemed to be far from the darkest timeline.

After taking a few complimentary winning shots from the bar Nym would exit the tavern, stretching her arms and yawning somewhat. Before turning to face Akemi she had noticed an odd scent in the air, sniffing slightly before shrugging it off and turning to face her master. “Hehehe, you should really try that place sometime! They hit hard!” She laughed, reminiscing about some of the earlier battles she had participated in. “But their drinks hit harder.” Nymara added with a sly smile, still under the influence of the aforementioned alcohol. “Oh thank the gods!” A familiar voice called out. “Ehh?” Nymara turned away from Akemi for a moment only to notice the shadow of a striped feline. “I’ve been searching all over for you, where did you disappear too?!” He asked through ragged breath, descending from the sky to land on a nearby lamp post. It was only a matter of time before the cat found her, so the girl didn’t see any reason to lie, especially with Akemi standing right next to her. “What? I was only *hic* recuperating from that awful trip!” She said somewhat defensively, though it was clear from Lucky’s face he wasn’t buying it. Noticing Akemi the feline simply bowed his head slightly in respect. “A thousand apologies my lady, I never meant to leave her like that!” He said, feeling the need to defend his honor after such an event. Something by this point had often elicited an eye roll from his redheaded partner. Though before Nymara even had a chance to say anything else the cat spoke up once more. “I’m afraid we don’t have much time however!” He started, his expression getting noticeably worried. “I overheard some hooligans plotting some alchemic mischief today with the prospect of interfering with the peace!” He continued, though Nymara only met him with a rather confused expression. Although only a few moments went by before her nostrils flared and her ears flicked slightly at a new sound. The strange smell she had encountered earlier, was it from alchemy? In her rather hammered state the woman had little time to isolate the scent from earlier before she was interrupted by Lucky, though his words seemed to reignite a thought process within the fire dragon slayer. During their conversation the smell had only proceeded to get a little stronger until the source came from two horned individuals hurriedly making their way out of a nearby alley and into the middle of the street. “Could it be those hooligans?” She asked, somewhat rhetorically as Nymara proceeded to walk past both Lucky and Akemi to get a better glimpse of the two.

“OI! You guys! Can we talk for a moment, aye?” Nymara called out, the two Joyans stopping somewhat before turning to face the disturbance. Their secrets betrayed them. To the nose of a dragon slayer, nothing was hidden, and the familiar components of alchemical magic were known to Nymara. The girl had already seemed to decide they were enemies, evident by the rise in temperature within the street, despite the two not even speaking yet. “Silence outsider, we have no quarrel with you.” One fainted rather nervously while the other remained silent. Nymara’s eyes only narrowed in response before Lucky chimed in. “Th- Those were the guys! Their horns were indistinguishable!”
“Silence cat! You know not of who you speak to!” What responded. Though flames had already begun to appear around Nymara’s fists as she walked closer. “I think he knows EXACTLY who he’s talking about! Now tell me your plans or your fried!” The redhead said somewhat sinisterly. The two Joyans nervously looked at each other before coming to the conclusion that the jig was up, and no amount of talking was going to make it otherwise. Instinctively they both got in a defensive stance as the girl stalked closer. “Mhmm.. Just as I thought.” She mumbled with a smile.
What followed were actions nearly too quick to see clearly, but the duo of alchemists suddenly whipped out two separate potions at the same time attempting to hit Nymara with surprise! Expecting something like this, an explosion of orange flames followed instantly afterwards! What looked like some sort of poison and sticky fluid upon the stone where Nym once stood was instantly burned away as the girl used her legs to propel her into the sky with a fiery explosion just in time to dodge the first strike! Taken back by her reflexes the duo looked up to see the girl arch in the sky before more fire appeared around her legs! With a furious yell Nymara sent a massive jet of flame from her mid-air fall straight towards the perpetrators! Grunting in strain, they leapt back just in time to see the fire explode upon the cobblestone road, sending dust and smoke out in all directions! With the entire road now obscured from view due to the dust and rock, the alchemists coughed in the fog, trying to orientate themselves. It would be short lived however as the darkness lit up once more with flaming orange light! Out of the smoke Nymara charged with a fist full of fire at incredible speeds! Slamming her hand directly into the stomach of one of them before he even had a chance to react! The man was sent careening into the nearest building, causing a massive gaping hole to break away within the storefront as fire and smoke billowed out from the impacted crater! The other alchemist panicked, throwing multiple potions at the girl at once! Yelling with both fury and excitement Nymara turned around and swung her arm with a wide arc of fire! The two incoming potions were instantly shattered by the wave of flame, the magic evaporating with the dragon fire’s heat. Though as the dust cleared from his failed attack Nym was already gone once more! Her constant yelling betrayed her though, as the dragonslayer had positioned herself to leap directly above the alchemist! He only had enough time to look up in shock before another blast of embers and heat rocked the street!

Another few moments passed before the dust cleared up enough for Nymara to be seen. She stood with one smoking hand gripping the horned Joyan’s head as it lay half engrained in the pavement. The moan of pain coming from his body was enough to let Nym know he had been beaten, and she quickly let go before straightening her back. “These guys seemed to know their stuff, doubt they were acting alone…” Nymara finally said, surprisingly sounding sober in that statement. It was obvious that when push came to shove Nym was capable of switching into a more serious mode.

Heated Negotiations [EVENT] Empty Re: Heated Negotiations [EVENT]

Post by Akeya 29th January 2022, 4:29 pm

Akemi didn't even bother to retort to Nymara's blatant lie. Of course the fire slayer had forgotten: she'd been completely absorbed into getting drunk and fighting people. As passionate and enthusiastic as the redheaded woman might be, she really needed to learn to rein in those habits. Of course, it was the same fire that made her such an aggressive combatant that also made her act so impulsively, so getting her to behave rationally without curbing her spirit would be a tricky thing to do.

Instead she merely stared at Nymara, hoping to make the woman uncomfortable through gaze alone as the lying continued. Testing out the locals? There was no point to doing that, as the locals weren't their enemies. Probably. Even if they were, some random guy in a tavern wasn't going to be presenting the elite forces. "...Whatever. Just try to come up with a better excuse next time." She didn't have the time to tear apart Nymara's defence piece by piece. She'd located her apprentice, so that would have to do. She unfolded her arms and beckoned for Nymara to follow. "Come along. We've been in this city for less than an hour and already there's signs that someone is planning to cause trouble."

She'd lead the younger dragon out of the establishment, making sure Nymara wouldn't get distracted by anything else in the process. However, as they stepped outside she noticed a scent which shouldn't be part of everyday life. Some kind of chemical extract, except with a magical taint to it. Alchemy, then: herbalists might also create tinctures and elixirs, but the combination of magic and reagants spoke of a more advanced profession. No offence intended towards herbalists, of course.

"Maybe when we aren't busy." She dismissed Nymara's invitation. She might've said more, but at that point Lucky descended from the skies and made it clear that Nymara had given him the slip as well. She considered telling the cat knight what his master had been up to, but decided that it wasn't worth the bother. Not like it was difficult to guess, anyway, even if Lucky might trust Nymara too much to assume that she was out drinking and brawling in the middle of a job. "I'm aware." She did respond when Lucky started talking about the troubles that were brewing in this city. As friendly and energetic as the place was, it was clear that there were dangerous undercurrents, inevitably a response to the talks that were taking place. "I've already subdued some of them, but they were underlings who didn't know anything." She folded her arms again. "If you've found some others who are part of it they're our best lead for the moment." Granted, having the three of them hunting the same bunch might not be the most efficient way to approach this...

Fortunately, Nymara had also picked up on the alchemical scent and had the forthrightness to just walk up to the owner of the scent and ask them if they were part of the plan. It was actually rather amusing, how these people clearly were trying to remain unnoticed only for Nymara to spoil the entire thing. Although it was interesting that these were horned, just like the underlings that Akemi had taken care of... was this possibly motivated by race as well? Joyans differed a lot from one another, so even if they were all Joyans it might be that some tribes faced more troubles than others and because of that wished to rearrange how the system worked.

That said, these two didn't hold a lot of strength. Looking at the way they moved, their magical presence, and it could be safely concluded that Nymara could take care of the pair without any assistance. As she was already doing: Akemi just watched as the fiery redhead immediately stormed in, throwing fire left and right as she blew up the elixirs the alchemists threw at her. Yeah, she wouldn't be needed for this one, except possibly to ensure both alchemists survived so they could be questioned.

However, it seemed that she wouldn't be given the opportunity to watch her apprentice's fight. As her golden eyes were observing Nymara's movements and those of her adversaries she suddenly heard the faint sound of a crossbow in the distance... aimed at her.

Akemi blurred for a moment as she stepped to the side, a bolt whizzing through the space where her shoulder would have been beforehand. Not a fatal shot, but definitely one that would have incapacitated her if it had hit. The raven-haired assassin turned towards the source of the bolt and immediately entered a dash. She had already locked onto the magical presence of the one who had shot the bolt: while the shot itself hadn't required any magical assistance, her senses were keen enough that she could pinpoint the location and match it to someone standing there. It helped that they were significantly more powerful than the civilians walking around... well, had been walking around: Nymara's fight had begun to drive them away, and a crossbow bolt being fired into the crowd was enough to scatter them the rest of the way.

The man she homed in on was a peculiar one: rather than just showing some animalistic traits, like the other Joyans, this one was a full-blown man-lion, albeit one wearing a full set of armour. Seeing Akemi close the gap he reloaded the crossbow with ease, took aim, and fired again, apparently unperturbed by her advance. Akemi responded by diving to the side, and into the shadow of one of the buildings that lined the street. The moment her entire body was engulfed in shadow she disappeared.

The lion sniffed the air and quickly turned around to face Akemi, who had appeared crouching in his shadow and was already lashing out with a dark claw. However, the lion quickly jumped up to avoid the strike, and prevented Akemi continuing the assault by dropping the crossbow, pulling out a dagger, and slashing down towards the dark claw mage's face.

While the magic presence of this lion was weaker than her own he was still frighteningly fast. Akemi rolled to the side to avoid the dagger and dug into the ground with her claw. From the lion's own shadow large black talons shot up, attempting to pierce and trap him. The lion quickly kicked one of the talons and used the force to propel himself to safety, catching himself with one hand and both feet as he kept his dagger at the ready.

Akemi quickly pushed herself up. The lion used the opportunity to sheathe his dagger and pull his axe from its trappings on his back. At the same time he let out a threatening roar: while intimidating, Akemi could see that it also caused more magic to burst out all over his body. A self-strengthening spell.

Digging his paws into the ground the lion charged her, even faster than before while holding the axe with both hands. Akemi raised her dark claw and ran in as well, even as the shadows that surrounded the two of them darkened. The lion struck first, raising the axe and bringing it down with the clear intent of either incapacitating or eliminating Akemi. She countered by slamming the side of the axe with her claw, redirecting its path so it passed next to her harmlessly... except when it hit the ground it did so with enough force that Akemi was blown to the side, the earth shattering and pieces of dirt and rock flying through the air.

Ignoring the shrapnel that pelted her, the assassin dug her claw into the ground to halt her flight and regain her footing. The lion straightened up after the strike, snorting in annoyance as he tightened his grip and shifted his weight to charge again. Akemi readied herself to receive him, only for her to become alarmed as she felt another magical presence approaching at high speed.

She swiftly spun around and grabbed the nearest wall with her claw. Pulling herself up with enough force to become airborne she used the roof of the building to propel herself even higher. She moved from building to building until she was on top of one three stories high. From there she could see a small figure moving from the big mountain-borne palace in the distance towards their corner of the city. Fast enough that by the time Akemi got a lock on the figure they were already shooting straight towards her.

Raising her claw Akemi blocked the incoming strike. While the figure herself looked like a pretty average citizen of Joya, a feline woman with brown hair and dark skin, the fist that met Akemi's claw was huge and covered in spiky black fur. The force of the impact caused the building beneath Akemi's feet to crumble. Even as she tried to keep her footing the lion decided to smash the building from below: with one mighty blow he caused the entire structure to fracture and fall apart.

Two against one would make things too chaotic and unfavorable for her. Akemi hadn't been wounded yet, but she hadn't managed to land any attacks either. She let herself fall into the building. Once inside she used the shadows present to shift her location to one away from the collapse. Unfortunately, the lion had already proved himself fast enough on the uptake that he wouldn't be fooled by that.

Indeed, even as she reappeared from the shadow of another building the lion and the... tigress? Had both already turned towards her. The tigress's arm had turned back to normal, but her confident grin told Akemi that she wasn't done with a single attack. A Take-Over user. Combined with the lion it looked like Akemi was stuck fighting two close-combat specialists. She didn't think either of them could beat her on their own but...

As the lion hefted his axe the tigress charged forward at that same ludicrous speed. On closer inspection, it looked like she shifted her legs into those of a onyx leopard to achieve such a feat.

Good. That meant Akemi didn't have to wait for her to close in.

As the tigress turned one of her arms into that same huge fist she'd tried to use before Akemi suddenly dashed forward and straight through her. Instead of a collision the assassin turned into shadow which harmlessly passed by. She immediately reformed after and shot towards the lion. To his credit the man didn't falter or blink: he merely brought his axe down to halt Akemi's advance.

Rather than slowing down Akemi only sped up further, straight into the incoming slash that could easily slice her in half. Like with the tigress she suddenly turned into shadow and moved straight past the strike like a ghost. The lion, having seen this trick just seconds before, swiftly turned, growling as he used his powerful arms to force his slash into a horizontal strike towards the woman behind him... who wasn't there.

The shadows, as they flowed past the lion, immediately circled back towards where Akemi had been before. What's more, the darkened shadows of the surrounding buildings all shot forward and converged into that same position. Akemi's dark claw shot out of the resulting black fog, quickly growing to a humongous size as it absorbed all the surrounding shadows. Akeya herself grit her teeth as she dug her feet into the ground even as the oversized claw took hold of the lion.

Once she had a hold of him Akemi immediately threw him. For all his strength the lion-man couldn't defy gravity, and was sent flying through the air. Akemi had aimed for him to land where Nymara was, to let her apprentice take care of him. This wouldn't be an easy opponent in the least, but that might teach Nymara a lesson about getting drunk while on a mission. And even with catlike grace the lion wouldn't end his flight without sustaining some injuries, which should even things out somewhat.

Akemi didn't have time to think about this, however: her claw returned to its normal size as she turned to block the next attack from the tigress. This time the attack was a kick, from a hooved leg that looked like it belonged to some hellish kind of horse. The assassin's eyes widened when the kick launched her through the air, claw and all. Her flight was brief, as she quickly found herself crashing through a building. Akemi let out a pained hiss as she broke straight through walls and floors. Once she was out on the other side she managed to catch herself on the ground.

Even as she pushed herself up the tigress broke through the building as well, but intentionally this time. Coming to a halt before Akemi she took a pose. "You think you can take me as long as I'm alone? You're better off running away." She pointed behind Akemi. "This has nothing to do with you anyway. Get out of our way and I won't chase you."

Akemi stood up even as the woman seized her up. Despite her words, it was clear that this furious feline wasn't actually planning to let things end that peacefully. "You're not a very good liar." Akemi wasn't planning to flee either way, but she at least wanted to point out that the tigress could have tried harder to be convincing.

The tigress's only response was a grin.

“Hey! You listening to me? You gotta tell me your *hic* plans!” Nymara roared furiously, picking up the unconscious alchemist by his collar and started furiously slapping him! This was annoying. After all of that bravado these punks had to go down as quickly as they did? The dragonslayer snorted with annoyance as the only response she got was a pained groan from the Joyan, prompting her to drop his limp body to the ground again. Almost losing her balance again as Nym felt the rush of the alcohol return, she quickly used a nearby wall to steady herself before turning to face Akemi. “I think we should start looking around for any other sign-!” And in an instant Nymara only saw the face of a lion before feeling the force of a body hit against her! The weight of the creature was immense, causing Nym to instantly be thrown back towards the wall! The impact caused the stone to give, carving a sizable crater into the warehouse’s side! Once the dust and smoke began to settle an explosion of fire shot out from the wreckage, Nymara violently pushed the rubble off of her only to see the lion was doing the same. “What the..” Were the only words that could leave the redhead’s mouth as she witnessed the Joyan stand back up and shake off the remaining rubble from his mane. Growling he turned his attention straight towards Nym, who only stared at him with a look of utter bewilderment. Of course that was until she heard the battle raging outside and the girl curiously arched her head to see past the lion’s shoulder. “What did I miss?” She asked somewhat curiously, though she was piecing together the situation pretty quickly.

“Miss Nymara! Look out!” Lucky called out a little too late. It seemed in her stupor Nymara was completely distracted from the battle her mentor just waged, causing the collapse of a nearby building! Of course she was even less prepared for the massive man-cat being hurled in her direction, and Lucky could only watch as his master vanished into the side of another building with the assailant. Breathing nervously Lucky hovered in the air watching both battles unfold. It seemed clear now though that Akemi was capable of handling herself against this newfound foe, so the exceed elected to dive straight towards the street and assist his master! Hovering just outside the new hole he spotted Nymara standing adjacent to the lion that Akemi had been fighting only moments before. “Heyyyy Lucky!” Nymara waved with a cheery smile as Lucky made himself visible. “L- Lady Nymara! More attackers have arrived!” He stated. The lion turned to face the cat, giving him an angered glare. “Lady Akemi is already preoccupied with this man’s associate!” He said. Understanding which side the exceed seemed to be on, the lion responded by shifting his body towards the flying cat. Though something else caught Lucky’s eyes and he quickly ascended through the air just as a massive jet of flame erupted from the side of the building and onto the street! Roaring in pain the Lion was hit with a full on fire punch in the back from Nymara! Seeing him make a move towards the exceed was all that she needed to know he was a threat, so she responded instantly! Thankfully his back was already turned, failing to realize the speed of Nymara’s strikes. The armored lion rolled several times across the street before screeching to a halt, using his claws to plant himself in the ground and recover from the attack. The metal plating across his body smoked while Nymara stepped out of the flaming building with a look of disdain. “I’m your fighter pal, not the kitten!” She growled, flames appearing to swallow both her fists as she stared down the Lion with her ruby gaze.

Roaring, the Lion gripped his axe and rushed forwards! After such a prolonged state of conflict, it was clear he was getting tired. If that unexpected attack to the back wasn’t enough to wind him, his previous fight with Akemi would certainly do the trick. Still, he continued to fight. Something Nymara could respect. The dragon slayer answered his charge with one of her own, sprinting forwards with fiery arms just as the lion raised his axe! He brought it down on Nym who just barely sidestepped the blow as the weapon shattered the stone. Following up her dodge with a strike Nymara attempted to land a hit to his face, though the feline proved to be quicker than she thought! Raising one of his arms he just managed to spin and redirect her arm with an elbow jab! The action sent her arm swinging wildly open, exposing her middle ground just as he brought up his foot to kick the dragonslayer! Feeling the impact of his strength, Nym grunted in pain as her body was thrown! Landing on her back she barely had enough time to see the glint of the lion’s weapon before it came rushing down! “Woha!” She yelped, quickly pulling her legs back and rolling backwards a moment before the steel shattered the road once again. “Alright big guy, time to turn up the heat!” She yelled with a smirk, a jet of fire exploding from her feet for a second and propelling her straight towards the lion! She attacked again with flaming fists, but this time her attacks were more thought out. Holding up his weapon the lion parried the first strike from the fire slayer, though another came instantly after in the form of a flaming foot! Knocking it aside as well Nymara’s body continued to angle in ways that allowed a constant flow of strikes! Honing her body into a vessel of her fire, the girl had learned long ago how to use any part of it to strike with her magic! For every strike and attack the lion warded off Nymara didn’t give him enough time to retaliate! Stuck on the defensive against her onslaught of fire, the Joyan had no choice but divert all of his remaining strength into blocking as Nymara’s strategy to overwhelm her enemy was starting to pay off! Still, Nymara wasn’t going easy on him! She was determined to defeat her enemy, yet he was still capable of blocking the magical attacks of her assault. Impressive to say the least, which led Nym to figure he was using magic himself. Now painting a clearer picture in her head, the firebrand could tell that Akemi had already tangoed with this lion before her, as her scent could still be sensed by Nym on him. Not to mention the destruction of their battle while Nym was distracted with the alchemists. She would need to congratulate Akemi for her work after this. Though she couldn’t afford to help the twilight dragon now, as it was clear she had her own battle going on. For now all she could do was take this big cat out of the picture and hope that helped.

Finally after raising both her hands up and unleashing a brilliant explosion of fire upon her opponent, the metal weapon was swatted away! The entire street rocked with smoke and dust while Nym followed up with a powerful flaming kick straight to the jaw of the lion! With no weapon to block, the lion felt his teeth smash together while the force of the impact sent him into the sky! More fire exploded from Nymara’s feet as she too used a controlled force to propel her into the air! Her arm covered in flames swirled around as she lined up the shot with her foe. Just as he began to fall back towards the earth a shadow came over the lion, Nymara blocking out the sun as she fell towards him with blazing fury! With enough force to knock out a few fangs, Nymara’s punch landed across the lion’s face and caused an eruption of fire to rock the sky! A small, fast moving trail of smoke descended from this cloud of fire before it smashed into the nearby street, throwing up dirt and dust in all directions. The lion lay still, his eyes wide open and his mouth agape as his smoking armor sizzled in the crater around him. Landing on a neighboring house Nymara breathed through ragged breath, taking a crouching stance as she observed her opponent. Her serious expression soon changed when she noticed he was down for the count, and the dragonslayer’s eyes lit up with excitement. “W- whoo! I win again!” She proclaimed to the sky. Though her moment of triumph didn’t last long as an intense feeling of exhaustion and sickness wafted over the dragonslayer as the adrenaline began to wear off. “Though.. I think I- I’ll just take a breather before the next one *hic* aye?” She mumbled groggily before collapsing onto the shingle roof, peacefully knocked out cold.

Heated Negotiations [EVENT] Empty Re: Heated Negotiations [EVENT]

Post by Akeya 4th February 2022, 8:11 pm

With the two of them squaring off, the fight quickly escalated to a point that it was hard to follow. The tigress closed the gap even as her arm grew and turned into a scaled claw. The scent that claw produced told Akemi that it was poisonous. Rather than trying to block it she dodged underneath and tried to sweep the tigress's legs out from underneath her. The Inquisitor jumped up into the air. Her arm had already changed back after the missed attack, but she followed up by once again shifting her legs into the infernal equine once and deliver a downwards kick to try and pin Akemi against the ground. Akemi evaded by sinking into her own shadow, jumping out of the shadow of a nearby building and delivering an overhead slash with her claw. The claw quickly grew mid-flight, intending to swat the tigress out of the air.

Her opponent, however, wasn't going to be such an easy catch. With one hoof touching the ground she spun and kicked the descending claw with the other hoof. To Akemi's surprise, the kick actually had enough force behind it to knock her claw aside. The tigress quickly shifted her legs to those of a leopard and jumped towards Akemi. Her hands turned back into those reptilian claws while she grinned with a savage bloodlust.

Akemi dispelled her own claw to regain her balance. Leaning forward she dashed straight into the tigress's arms but grabbed her adversary by the wrists. She quickly drove her knee into the Inquisitor's stomach before pushing herself away and backwards, leaving dark bindings around the woman's wrists. The tigress let out a pained gasp at the sudden knee strike, then when she tried to retaliate found that the bindings around her wrists had connected themselves to the ground and pulled her down.

Akemi used the opportunity to reform her dark claw. However, as she raised her claw for an attack the tigress's arms turned into those of some kind of black simian, and she forcefully ripped herself free from the bindings. In the process she also tore up the ground. Without bothering to shift her limbs back she immediately charged Akemi again, this time clearly more cautious and angrier. The assassin waited until the last moment to dodge to the side, watching the tigress stumble for a moment before righting herself. At that moment Akemi struck: with a sharp motion of her claw spikes shot out of the tigress's own shadow and stabbed her in the legs.

The Inquisitor let out a pained roar as she lifted both hands. Curling the gorilla-like hands into fists she pounded the ground with enough force that the entire world seemed to shake for a moment. A huge plume of dust shot into the air as chunks of stone and clods of dirt were sent flying in every direction. Akemi dove into the shadows this smokescreen created and reappeared outside of the dust cloud. However, before she could do anything else the dust parted to reveal the Inquisitor flying towards her at such a speed that the dark claw mage had next to no time to react. It seemed like the Inquisitor couldn't just transform her limbs, but also grow new ones: a pair of brown-feathered wings were helping her descend upon Akemi as quickly as possible.

Readying her claw Akemi's body darkened, ready to evade the incoming attack. The gorilla fist had been exchanged for something far more wicked: it looked like the arm was completely covered in barbs and spikes, and the talons at the end of the fingers had hooks in them like they were meant to dig in deep and never let go. When the claw came to rip her apart it went right through Akemi's body as if it wasn't there, her flesh and blood dispersing into wisps of shadow. They immediately reformed after, but the tigress wasn't done: her other claw came from the other side to slam into Akemi. It had been the tigress's own arm at first, and it had transformed a lot faster than Akemi had predicted.

Spikes carved up her flesh as she was smashed into a nearby building, Akemi letting out a pained gasp even as the building collapsed around her. The falling rubble wasn't a danger to her, but she didn't want to remain in one spot for too long if her adversary was this aggressive. She wasn't giving Akemi much time to plan any strategies: she just charged straight in every time, relying on her absurd strength and speed to overwhelm Akemi in close quarters. If it wasn't for Akemi's own speed and reflexes she would have been crushed already.

That wasn't to say that Akemi wasn't fighting back: she'd managed to disable the woman's legs. Or at least weaken them. She did have to note, however, that it was rather surprising that a direct hit only launched her through a single building. Maybe it was more of a glancing blow.

No time to think though. No time to check her wounds either. Her right arm was bleeding pretty badly, but otherwise it didn't seem a big issue. Akemi disappeared into the shadows once more. Where to strike... She need to disrupt the tigress's offensive.

Jumping out of the Inquisitor's own shadow another big gorilla punch was awaiting her. Akemi released a wave of dark that blinded the tigress as she rolled to the side. A kick came flying but went over Akemi's head. She immediately lashed out and grabbed the offending leg, using it to pull the woman off the ground and then slam her against it on the opposite side. With the Inquisitor on the ground her shadow darkened and began to crawl all over her body, attempting to bind her in place. The Inquisitor answered this with a mighty roar as she ripped herself free, the same way she'd done when Akemi had tied her wrists to the ground.

However, that was the opportunity that Akemi had needed. A moment that the tigress was completely focused on freeing herself and not assaulting the assassin. The moment the Inquisitor pushed herself upright she found a black spike shooting towards her from the shadow of a nearby house. Even as she ducked another black spike shot towards her from a wholly different direction. Dodging this one as well the barrage kept coming. She didn't have time to leave her position: every move she made had to deal with not getting perforated.

With a frustrated growl the tigress turned her arm into something that looked like it was made of metal. With one wide swing she seemed to deflect all the attacks even as Akemi suddenly appeared right in front of her, claw already arching around to end the fight.

The tigress turned her free arm into the spiky-malicious-looking one and quickly struck at Akemi. Akemi, however, caught the strike with her own claw. And the moment their claws touched the Inquisitor's claw dispersed, to her utter amazement. The assassin smoothly switched her weight and lashed out with her other hand instead, grabbing the Inquisitor by the neck.

In the time that it took the woman to recover from having her windpipe suddenly pinched shut Akemi brought her claw back. Even as the tigress grabbed Akemi's forearm with the clear intent of either breaking it or ripping it up, the assassin suddenly slammed the palm of her claw against the woman's torso.

A massive surge of energy was released as Akemi executed her final attack. Accumulate energy and then release it. A classic trick, but effective nonetheless. The tigress was shot backwards as if she'd been fired out of a cannon. Akemi disappeared for the last time, reappearing in front of the building that the tigress was flying towards. Raising her claw she brought it down to halt the Inquisitor's flight. Instead she was rudely buried, her entire body smashed against the ground with sufficient force to embed her and break more than just a single bone.

Stunned by the impact, the Inquisitor didn't react as she was bound once more. This time the shadows were a lot tougher, wrapping and intertwining over and over until a large mass of pure black had encased most of the Inquisitor's body. Not that it was necessary: it seemed like the Inquisitor was no longer in any shape to fight, after having been hit by the ground with enough force that the buildings all around them trembled for a short moment.

As she straightened up, Akemi looked around. Once again, the fight had caused a lot of destruction, with at least two craters having been formed and several buildings having collapsed entirely. She herself had done her best to minimize damage, but the Inquisitor hadn't been so careful and the last attack certainly had left an impression on the ground.

However, Akemi was pretty sure this woman was the ringleader of what was going on, so that meant mission accomplished. The reason she believed this was because the lion had been somewhat deferential towards the tigress, and she acted with the confidence and strength of a leader.

She'd have to collect Nymara before delivering all these troublemakers to the local authorities. And recommend they get some nullification magic in to ensure the man-lion and the tigress couldn't just forcibly free themselves.
