Ahote disliked the winter season, but not because of its chilly winds or the snow that glimmered in the winter sunshine. It was because it reminded him of Mt. Hakobe, which was in a perpetual state of winter no matter what time of year you visited and reminded him of a litany of memories he'd rather not recall. It was actually autumn that Ahote favored, since summer was far too hot, and it rained too much in spring. But regardless of the season, Ahote was always coined the 'chaperone' of his clique which always found themselves in festivals like this—which included Iris, Aeluri, and now Baird who found himself slowly joining the trio.

This time, the group was in the bustling Shirotsume—which Ahote had never visited before—and their merrymakings began with different concoctions of hot cocoa in festively adorned mugs. Ahote had tried two or three different mixtures before settling on the one topped with a layer of peppermint marshmallows, to which he sipped from quietly and happily so. He was wearing his khaki trench coat with his usual tuxedo vest underneath. The only difference in appearance from other instances was the red scarf wrapped around his neck with a thin yellow-stripe pattern. Ahote's cheeks were tinted pink as the chilly breeze nipped at his pale skin, but he didn't seem to mind. In fact, he had been enjoying himself. After attending several festivals recently, it was clear that the usually gloomy and brooding man was in his best mood when engaging in activities like this.

"Do we have to return the mugs?" inquired Ahote to no one in particular, who didn't mind theft but couldn't help but wonder.

Iris wasn't sure if he had a favorite time of year in this human world. Each one had their perks, usually in the ways of fashion. Weather wasn't a concern, but the changes in wardrobe were fascinating. Winter had cozy attire that covered more skin but offered the opportunity to layer and play with accessories. It was cute. Spring caused the shedding of layers and an uptick in perky color schemes, while summer showed off more skin and had swimwear. If anything, autumn was his least favorite color pallet, but it allowed some of the fun from winter without the threat of ugly, chunk coats. At least pretty people looked good in everything, which was a blessing for his eyes. His own group always seemed to look fantastic, even if one of them always stayed the same. Did Ahote own any other clothes other than the tan trench coat and tux?

Iris sauntered easily along with the group, dressed in an ice blue slouchy sweater with white glitter accents. He was living for his fluffy white scarf around his neck, which matched the leg warmers sticking out of his shiny brown boots to cover the bottoms of his tight, dark jeans. The gingerbread cocoa he held in his hands was delightful, especially once he used the flask in his pocket to make it an adult drink. "Even if we do, do you think we will?" Iris responded to Ahote's question with a bit of mischief in his tone, moving to hover near Ahote. His boots crunched the wet snow beneath their feet, though his moved closer. Shifting his chocolate drink to one hand, his now free arm snaked over to his ex-boss and slipped around his waist. Iris's lilac hues caught a touch of marshmallow foam from the peppermint chocolate drink, and there was no way he'd pass on this opportunity. Leaning over, his face darted in front of the easily flustered man's, lips gently kissing off the sweet remnant from the corner of Ahote's mouth. He quickly pulled away, giving the brunette a flirty grin. "You had something on your mouth~"

”I hope not,” Aeluri replied to Ahote’s query, clutching her hot cocoa mug more tightly in her hands. “I’m not giving it back.” The warmth of the liquid kept her hands from freezing, not to mention it was a cute mug. It was ceramic with little cat ears sticking up from the sides. As soon as it had been placed in her hands, she knew it wasn’t leaving.

The four dark mages had just finished a hot cocoa tasting contest at the celebration of the Winter Solstice. Various chefs and civilians had created different types of cocoa for people to taste and rate. As soon as all had been tasted, everyone was able to pick a mug of their favorite flavor to drink. Of all the flavors, Aeluri had liked one made by a Desiertan man. It was a spicy cocoa, made with cinnamon, nutmeg, and ground cayenne pepper. The flavors burned in her mouth and stomach pleasantly, especially now that she had added whiskey from her flask to it.

Aeluri could only roll her eyes as she watched Iris sidle up to Ahote and kiss the marshmallow foam from his lips. The violette was always trying to get in Ahote’s pants, but his blunt flirting often fell short with the necromancer. Ahote seemed either oblivious to the advances or was too awkward to reply. That never seemed to stop Iris, though.

The woman’s eyes dragged over to Baird, wondering what his reaction would be. He had recently been accompanying the group on some ventures. Perhaps he was finding it hard to become accustomed to their mannerisms. If so, it wouldn’t be a surprise. Between the alcoholism, Iris’ flirting and gender fluidity, Ahote’s milquetoast demeanor, and Aeluri’s unashamed pretentiousness, The Buzz Killers were quite the odd group.

Aeluri didn’t know much about the long-haired man. He went by 'Music Man' in Hidden Blades and was a talented musician. The man seemed younger than her, the grace of youth apparent in his features. As long as he liked alcohol and didn’t turn out to be an annoyance with his music, Aeluri was comfortable with his presence among their various outings.

The cat mug was raised once more for another sip of boozy hot cocoa. Aeluri let out a satisfied sigh and relaxed a little. “What should we do next?” she asked her companions, looking around at the festival.

The Music Man Comes To Play

It had been a weird year for Baird. First losing his wife, and now he found himself enjoying a little bit of his time with a little group after simply finding interest in one of them at a bar called Boomslang. He found the owner to be quite entertaining and wanted to play at the bar as the music director or whatever he called himself then. He just wanted a joint to play his music at with ease. Honestly, after meeting the group, he felt a little at ease. He usually only hung out with people like Jester, the crazies who enjoyed his music he could happily be just as crazy with. This change to those a little less hyper sometimes was good. He needed to find Jester again though. The group was rather fun for him to sit back and relax with. Or his version of relax that is. His hair was currently pulled back into a long green ponytail, and he donned on a white cape that was loosely clasped over his shoulders and covering a black, skin tight, keyhole high collar halter top tucked into his dark blue skinny jeans. His black studded belt was around his hips with a pair of jingling chains on his hip and his shiny black boots clopping on the ground. The weather honestly didn’t bother him. He grew up in Iceberg. So he felt he could get away with wearing thinner clothes than others. If anything, he could pull his cape tight like a vampire and just keep himself toasty warm that way. But he was fine so far and saw no reason to do so right at this moment.

He had tried some hot chocolates with them when they all decided to come over to the festival, and he fell in love for one that had a hint of cinnamon flavoring in it. It was a tick strong though. He couldn’t entirely place why it could be so, though. He liked it nonetheless. He also had not been to Shirotsume himself, and was actually rather fond of the sights about him. All these mansions about. Rich people. High class people. Perfect suckers for falling for his music should he put on a show for them. Maybe he can actually woo them if he sets up a concert here? That would be splendid to do. His attention was brought back to the group when Ahote had questioned about keeping the mugs. He had grabbed a Midi themed one, and snorted to him. “You think they would have let us walk off with the mugs if we were to return them?” He rolls his striking green eyes and grinned before he sipped his hot chocolate once again. He was enjoying the warmth of the drink between his fingers. Maybe he could play something in a bit for everyone.

He peered over as Iris had given Ahote a kiss to ‘get something off of his mouth’ and couldn’t help but smirk as he slinked in on the other side, wrapping his arm just above Iris’ on Ahote’s waist, and gave Ahote a wink before he just licked the other corner of his cheek. “And I just felt like doing that.” He couldn’t help but tease to the guy. “Had to make your face even there. Though if there was some of that marshmallow foam on your face, I would think you’d taste much sweeter.” He tilted his head to the side as he looked over to Aeluri. “Would you care for me to lick off some of yours too, dearie? So you’re not alone?” He boldly asked her as he gave a charming grin. Of course he didn’t want this fair maiden to feel left out, he would willingly go over and kiss her if she let him. Regardless if she did or not, his green eyes spotted something that seemed of interest to him. “Snowman Making Contest?” The curiosity was highly in his voice and he wanted to go check it out.

Without waiting for the others, he removed himself from Ahote and started to go off as he did so, he held out a hand to the side. “Poseidon.” He simply said and a lute carved with seashells and various sea designs on it materialized in his hands. He brought it in front of him and lightly skipped as he begun strumming the instrument. He was strumming a slightly chipper holiday tune on it. People around looked over to him as he skipped up to the Snowman Contest and he kept his lute close. The other contestants seemed to be chipper from his playing, but he grinned to himself. Regardless on if the others joined him, Baird was going to enjoy himself with this contest. Would it be cheating if he knew tricks on how to beat others with his music? Naah… the host wasn’t saying anything about magic not being allowed, just that they would get heat grenades if they chose to also participate in the Snowball War with these snowmen.

As soon as the contestants were told to start, the green haired musician continued to play his holiday tune and was weaving the water with the snow to start making a snow person. He was making it seem like a little fluffy snow creature with the snow. The water he was using was helping contribute to the fluff of it. He absolutely wasn’t caring about the other contestants creations at all. They would be miniscule against his. He grew up in the snow, despite knowing he wasn’t born there. This was still his domain.

"I see. . ." Ahote looked down into his cocoa, not surprised by any of their answers as all of them responded the way he thought they would. However, although none of Iris's antics were new to him, nothing could prepare Ahote for what he did next.

Iris stopped in front of him and pecked something from the corner of his mouth. What's even worse, this inspired Baird to do the same to maintain perfect symmetry. Ahote's mental fortitude was not easily stirred, but he couldn't help but be terribly awkward in gestures or acts that possessed any modicum of sensuality or coquetry. As a result, his pale, white skin that stretched from his ears and over his nose blushed with a harsh pitaya-redness and his expression might've as pleasant to look at. He wore a sour look of shock, staring at both Iris and Baird, mouthing words but never finishing any complete thought. This was the reaction they were probably looking for. But before Ahote could properly chastise either of them, Baird easily lost interest in the topic for another—snowman building. As he frolicked away, Ahote, too, was enchanted by the idea and followed whilst rubbing the areas they pecked with his fingers.

When he arrived at the contest immediately after Baird did, Ahote was still blushing, but not because of what happened earlier. When the contestants were told to start, Ahote was quick to use his necromancy to do the building for him. Dark energy unnoticeable to the untrained eye rolled snowballs together to what started looking like a snowman but ended up being a rather well-crafted snowbunny with round pebbles for eyes and a nose that looked more like a refined sculpture than an amateur snowman. This was because of Ahote's time spent on Mt. Hakobe, which was burdened with a perpetual winter. Consequently, he spent a lot of time in the snow doing what things children easily captivated by cute things normally did—make cute snow creatures. Unfortunately, he never grew out of it and was pink at the cheeks with captivation of how cute his creation was.

You're absolutely adorable. I wish you were real. . . Ahote would think to himself, fawning over the snowbunny. He didn't know if the others were aware of his childlike fondness of cute things, and he thought he was good at keeping it rather discrete (which he wasn't), but he never admitted to it.

Iris, giggling devilishly to himself in satisfaction over Ahote's reaction, approached Aeluri and would snake an arm around her if she allowed before following the two grown men even though he didn't feel like building a snowman himself. While watching the two make their adorable frosty creatures, the purple-haired man took a flask out of his pocket and dumped a healthy portion into his hot chocolate now that he'd sipped enough down that it wouldn't overflow. Out of all the flavors offered, he found that bourbon and chocolate was his favorite, and they hadn't offered anything boozy. Ah, now that was better. The cold numbed his nose, ears, and fingers, while the added booze numbed the rest of the already drunk man. Not that it mattered, because honestly Iris still functioned 'normally' while drunk. He had to be extremely sloshed for it to start to affect him, and that was a level that was difficult to achieve on a public outing with friends. There was always later at Boomslang.

"Aw, look at them, Aelu~" he purred, attempting to snuggle up to her. It looked like he was doing so because he was cold and criminally underdressed for the weather, but really it was just that the cosmic being craved human contact. Of all his addictions, his need to be touching someone was probably the strongest one. And while all of his vices were always on full, unabashed blast for everyone to see, the deep-rooted reasons for them were locked away tighter than the Rune Knight's highest security prison. "Good grief, Ahote made a snowbunny. Watch him blush~ He loves cute stuff, which I think is so funny. When we were in Basilisk Fang, he hid this side so well. Too well!" the alien gushed, peeking a blue-tinged finger from under the ragged sleeve of his thin black jacket to point at the brunette. His likewise thin green shirt did little to combat the cold either, but at least his brown pants offered some warmth. He shivered but didn't seem to notice, instead tapping his foot and gently bobbing to the jolly tune the Music Man played. So far he was certain he and the green-haired man would get along criminally well...for a number of reasons, the biggest one being that the musician was absolutely stunning. Iris licked his lips just looking at the Veridian man. "They're both so cute I could just eat them up~" Iris cooed, though his intentions were always decidedly less pure than his words may have come off as. Aeluri would know this better than anyone.

However, watching the two play in the snow would only amuse the restless soul for so long. Iris wasn't one for holding still once his interest at ben lost. He needed stimulation. Boredom snatched him up easily, and when Iris was bored he got into trouble. The itch to search the crowd for a nice set of new peepers was rising, and he didn't want to 'ruin another festival' for their ex-boss. Shame. Crowds like this were perfect for reaping. With a sigh, his lilac hues searched around for something to get into. Nearby there was a sign reading 'sled racing', seated atop a steep drop off that he could only presume went down one of the safer sides of the mountain. Hm...there were some shady looking teens hanging around. As much as Iris loved chaos, he didn't feel like being bashed over sharp rocks and trees with no one to share in his euphoric pain but some untouchable minors. That was a bust.

Just down from the sledding area was another displaying several crystal clear blocks of ice. Oh, that looked fun. He could make something beautiful~ Like a heart! Gulping down the rest of his spiked hot chocolate, he held his kitty mug out for Aelu to have if she wanted a pair to take home. "Heeey," his sultry voice drawled, jabbing an ungloved finger toward where his eyes rested. "Wanna sculpt some ice?" he asked the wallet thief, the girl that was probably the closest thing he had to a best friend in the whole world. "It looks like a good time~ Come on, please!"

Regardless of whether she came along or not, Iris darted off through the snow to get into the contest before it started. A handsome young man explained the contest to the ancient space dust, but a hand flamboyantly waved him off. Iris cared not for the contest itself. He just wanted to carve something. Taking the tools into his hand, he pondered on them. Such barbaric, ugly tools. No, that wouldn't do to make his perfect heart. So instead he decided to use a jetstream of hot water to both cut and gently melt the curves of the puffy heart. Working carefully with his wiggling fingers, he began to sculpt his masterpiece.

Before long, a perfect heart formed, free of the harsh marks a chisel and file would make. It retained its crystalline purity, acting nearly as magnifying glass since it was quite concave. All he needed to do was clean out where the two rounded humps met in the middle...and that's when it went wrong. Inexplicably, the water jet from his finger suddenly cracked the ice heart right down the middle. The two hunks flopped over off each side of the pedestal into the snow below, looking like two halves of a best friend bracelet or something stupid like that.

The buzzed killer froze, eyes just staring at the pieces before widening slightly. "My heart....broke..." he muttered in a hollow tone, strangely devastated. The source of his shock didn't come from the futility of the hard work he'd spent on something so simple and aesthetically pleasing, but from a place steeping much deeper within the enigma. No matter how much he numbed himself, if he wasn't diligent enough with his distractions, the thoughts would creep in. It wasn't too bad at first, though it threatened to drive him crazy. An unpleasant pain ebbed in his chest as jumbled memories of a silvery-haired man flurried like pages in a flipbook, except instead of animation coming together, it was just chaotic scenes spliced together. Longing, lots of skin, feathers flying, nails scratching, mouths melding...then splatters of blood, a wicked smile, female curves...another face from ages ago assaulted him in his moment of weakness, mutating his expression into something full of animalistic rage. How dare she still plague his mind. How dare she! She'd take his eyes, everything he had, and still dare to taint the happy memories he'd made with the man he still searched for without rest? He would not accept her haunting what little he had of his stripper-love.

Before he knew what had happened, he had viciously attacked the pieces of heart with the ugly tools he'd rejected earlier. It was as if he was possessed. In each lump, he saw her face. His now glowing red eyes could see nothing else as he drove the chisel into her treacherous face over and over again without satisfaction, shattering it down to a fine powder instead of extraterrestrial blood. At last, he rose, chest heaving, and threw the chisel and file down. Deep frown still pulling at his usually so nonchalant face, he stalked off.

The green-haired man asked Aeluri if she wanted a kiss too, to which she averted her gaze and sipped her hot cocoa without a response. She hadn’t known Baird long enough to warrant a snarky response, so she simply ignored the suggestive comment. Iris threw enough lewd comments her way as it was.

Speaking of the violette, he sauntered up behind her and put an arm around her waist, pulling her along as they followed Baird and Ahote. The other Buzz Killers headed into a snowman making competition, while Aeluri and Iris stopped on the edge to watch. Out of the corner of her eye, the dark mage noticed her companion take out his flask and dump some booze into his cocoa. If she didn’t already have her own, she would have definitely been holding out her hand and demanding that he share.

Aeluri just sighed as Iris cuddled up to her. She was used to his behavior by now. Long ago when they first met, she had found him absolutely irritating - sometimes she still did. But over time, she had just come to accept that the ocular mage was just… eccentric. In his actions, his interests, and his words. If anyone asked, she would still call him a pain in the ass. However, Aeluri would never admit it to anyone that she had grown rather fond of her teammate. He was the only consistent friend she’d had throughout her life.

The woman’s only response to Iris’ proximity was to rest her head slightly against his shoulder. Aeluri nodded in response to his cooing about their teammates. She was watching Baird intently, observing his movements and picking up as much visual knowledge about him as she could. This was a habit - observe a person until she felt she knew enough, then she could relax and trust them. Baird was making some sort of festive, fluffy creature. Iris pointed out that Ahote was making a snow bunny.

Aeluri let out a huff as she saw Ahote beaming over his snow creation. Sometimes the man was too pure for his own good. It was almost amusing that he had been the guildmaster of one of the most notorious dark guilds to exist in Fiore. Since Basilisk Fang’s dissipation, he had loosened up a lot from his stern, stony demeanor. She remembered how starstruck he had been when she gave him the plushies she had won at previous festivals. There was a childlike aura to the man, and it was strangely charming.

Suddenly Iris was chugging his drink then shoving the mug in her hand so that she was double-fisting cat mugs. Aeluri followed his gesture and noticed the gleaming blocks of clear ice sitting on pedestals. She raised an eyebrow. Never before had ice sculpting crossed her path, but she was in a decent mood so why not? “Sure,” she replied, trailing after her teammate.

Aeluri took place behind one of the ice blocks not too far from Iris. She had placed the mugs on a nearby snow drift so they wouldn’t get stepped on. The beginning of the contest was announced, and the dark mage pondered for a minute. What would be a good sculpture? A cat? No, too predictable, and she wouldn’t be able to make it black. A fish? No… Perhaps a basilisk? Yes, that would be a good tribute to her former guild. Hopefully if Ahote came along, he wouldn’t be too bothered by it. After all, he had spent most of his life in the guild. The image of a basilisk could be upsetting.

Aeluri’s fingertips began to transform into a set of sharp claws on each hand. The chiseling tools lay abandoned in the snow nearby. Who needed man-made tools when she could just use her own built-in ones? The woman began carving at the ice, using short, vicious strokes to start carving out the basic shape. The snake would hopefully be coiled at the end but have its head up in the air. It was a threatening pose, one that would make the viewer think twice about getting to close. If only she could make the serpent come to life and cause some chaos! Aeluri let out a wistful breath.

Once she carved out the basic shape, she glanced over to see how Iris was doing. His ice had remained crystal clear due to the melting strokes of the hot water coming from his hands. Aeluri was awed. She hadn’t seen much of his water magic before. Returning her eyes to her own sculpture, the clawed woman began on her own detailing, which would come with a few mishaps. Long, smooth slices shaped the body of the basilisk, but occasionally sliced too deep into the ice. This left long, awkward grooves. Once she had done her best to finish the coil, she moved on to the head. The sharp tips of her claws carved out the mouth, the fearsome fangs, and the piercing eyes. One fang chipped straight off of the sculpture! Aeluri hissed in frustration. Carefully she finished the mouth, but as she was moving around to start on the eyes, she knocked the tail clean off with her leg. “Damnit!” the woman growled. How could she win if she kept breaking stuff off? Why did ice have to be so fragile? She took the time to re-carve a tail out of the stump of the old one. The fang seemed to be a lost cause, however.

Just as she was starting to carve eyes on to the serpent, Aeluri’s work was disrupted by the cracking of ice. Her head whipped around, mismatching eyes searching for the source. It turned out to be Iris’ sculpture, cracked by the heat of the water and sitting in two pathetic halves on the ground. The watchful gaze flickered to Iris, who was standing beside his broken creation, unmoving. The forlorn look on his face as he stared at the pieces was odd. Aeluri had never seen such an expression on the man. His flamboyant attitude had quelled, replaced by a hollow sorrow.

The expression made Aeluri worriedly curious. What was going through the head of her friend? It was just ice… right? Apparently not, as the hollowness was replaced by rage - a rage so deep and fierce that even Aeluri took a step away from Iris. She didn’t feel fear, just a deep unease. Something was happening to the violette and she didn’t know what to do. Just as she took a step to approach, he grabbed up the ice carving tools and used them to viciously stabs the remains of his sculpture to shreds. There was naught but powder and shards left when he was finished. Aeluri watched as he stalked off. She was dumbstruck. Yes, Iris was violent. He was a dark mage, after all. But this primal rage was something completely different.

Aeluri debated on whether or not she should follow him. If he was still in a murderous rage, she didn’t want to be the target of that. However, she felt an obligation to make sure he was safe. After what had just happened, his mental and emotional state could be in shambles. “...Iris?” she called after him, abandoning her striking basilisk to pursue the man while the surrounding people watched in fearful silence.

The Music Man Comes To Play

A cheeky grin was on Bairds face as he saw Ahote start blushing from his and Iris’ antics, honestly thrilled that he had gave one. The soundless words honestly feuled him as he leaned his head in close and slightly leaned it on Ahote’s. He did start to pout a little bit over to Aeluri though. She didn’t give him much of a response. She seemed sly enough to him that he wanted to get with her for a little bit. Well, actually, all of them seemed so. What he would do to die in their beauty! He shook his thoughts away after noticing about the snowman making contest, and trailed off to it. Of course, the musician noticed that Ahote had followed him, and that the other two started to observe them.

As his little creation started to come to fruition, he manipulated the water from his lute to start actually moving about. A grin was on his lips as the fluff ball started hopping from one foot to another. This distracted some of the other snowman creators, and Baird snorted. He glanced over as he heard Iris’ comment though, just barely. As he did, he gave a lopsided smile, that showed some of his pearly whites, to the purpled haired man, and winked at him before he stuck his tongue out briefly. He had noticed some of his snowman starting to fall apart, and was quickly moving some snow to put it back together again. His eyes had glanced over to Ahote and his snowman, or well, snow bunny. “You’d never see a snow bunny sculpture in Iceberg… But that’s rather adorable.” He purrs to Ahote, leaning his head over while still playing his lute. He wasn’t letting up on the song at all.

As he was working on finishing up his creation, he noticed the other two start making their way over to the ice sculpting. He’d have to go and see what they would make themselves now. In due time, the musician was finished, and his little creation was packed perfectly with snow and extremely flexible with the sliver of water coursing through the body. He didn’t care about the rest of the competition, and decided to have his snow friend start following him about. Sauntering away from the snowman making area, Baird was followed by the little creature of snow like it was a pet following it’s master. He had made his way over towards Iris and Aeluri, honestly smiling a bit as he watched them. Both of their creations looked amazing in the musicians eyes. He certainly couldn’t make something like that with his own magic. Fluffy snow creatures were his specialty.

As soon as he saw Iris’ heart fall in two on the ground, his eyes grew wide. That was unfortunate… he liked the heart. He wondered what Iris was going to do now, and honestly, that was answered rather quickly as the purple haired guy attacked the broken bits to even smaller pieces. He watched the destruction, and slowly smiled as he honestly wondered how much more the guy could do. The frown on his face made the green haired musician frown though. He didn’t like that look on this handsome man. His strumming of the lute had stopped as he started to go after Iris after Aeluri had gone to follow him. He pulled the lute to have the strap over him, moving the lute to his back so he didn’t have to hold it. His snow creature was still following and ran up ahead of them, trying to dance for Iris, but staying just far away to the side he couldn’t be kicked.

If the musician were to be told to hold back, he would do so and let the others do what they need to, or let Iris be alone for a little bit if he wished it. If he wasn’t told to hold back, he would follow and would move to put his hand on Iris’ shoulder gingerly, letting his eyes peer over at him. He may have just met this group, but didn’t mean he couldn’t be slightly concerned for them.

As Ahote continued to make the finishing touches on his adorable creation, he instantly began to regret it. It wasn't an ability he was incredibly fond of and not one very many people knew about either, but he could hear everything Iris was saying despite the distance that separated them. It was because of the power of the thunder demon he harnessed, and as a result he could hear and smell things he could would not be able to before he harnessed it, and all he could do to avoid hearing and smelling things he didn't want to was filter them out. Even Baird couldn't keep himself from commenting on the bunny, and while what he said wasn't sarcastic or jeering, Ahote couldn't help but feel embarassed of his fondness of it. With a handful of snow, Ahote quickly twist around and chucked it at Baird with a frowning expression and red ears to compliment his blushing face. "Mind your own business, Baird!" Ahote shouted at him but his snowball (which actually looked more like a snow clump) missing in his fluster.

Before he could subject the musician to even more of his snow clumps, he had finished animating he adorable snow-creature and meandered away. Watching him, Ahote didn't even notice that Aeluri and Iris too had trailed off somewhere, and Baird was likely on his way to accompany them. Between their quartet, the disparity between personalities was as clear as night and day, but almost all of them had only small amounts of attention to spare for one thing before they'd feel compelled to find something else to occupy them. Needless to say, Ahote was always following them rather than leading them to different places.

Abandoning his snow bunny, Ahote trailed behind Baird until they both had found and stopped to watch Iris and Aeluri craft their sculptures. Watching them, Ahote was always astounded to find how skilled they both were are various things he'd never expect them to have any experience with at all. In this case, it was ice sculpting. Aeluri was creating what looked to be a basilisk, and Iris put all of his efforts into making a heart.

The basilisk reminded him of his former guild, and while he used to feel quite bitter about it, it now only made him doubtful of his current lifestyle. Was it right for him to abandon such an ostentatious livelihood? Was he putting the skills given to him by Famine to use, and if he wasn't, should he? Was it a waste to be content with how things are now? Memories and reminders of his guild no longer depressed him, but the slew of questions he held for it was nothing short of. . . uncomfortable. Howbeit, the light, fluffy feeling of seeing Aeluri get angry over her mishaps during sculpting broke him away from the contemplation and into a simper instead. The same could be said while watching Iris craft his perfect heart. It might have been a stretch to label Iris as a perfectionist, but he definitely appeared more conscious of smaller details than the average person. Of course, Ahote could have never predicted what had happened next.

Wssh! The heart of ice split in two, a clean cut through the middle so that either halves looked like a typical friendship charm. It was an unfortunate surprise, to say the least, and Ahote's wide eyes made it clear that he hadn't expected this to have happened. But what shocked him more than the heart of ice splitting apart was Iris's reaction to the loss. In a fit of what could only have been described as rage, he stabbed and crunched away at the two halves of ice until they were closer to being a powder of its former beauty than chunks of ice. Ahote's smile faded away into a frown, and then his lips would slightly part so he could sigh. Iris stalked off and Aeluri followed him, but Ahote only watched the two with a rather unfriendly, concerned expression.

At first, Ahote couldn't say anything. How could he? He had never seen Iris have such a fit before, and while he was not afraid of him, the surprise was almost overwhelming. What could have caused such a frenzy? Iris was not so immature that the fact his time spent on his sculpture being squandered would rouse him so deeply, so what was it? More than he was inquisitive, Ahote was concerned and began to contemplate more on how he would comfort him when he'd see him again.

He peered over at Baird, who looked ready to pounce over to Iris and Aeluri, and quickly and softly grabbed his wrist to keep him in place next to him. Ahote smiled, but his unpleasant stare were clearly not as chipper. "Why don't you stay behind and talk to me for a moment? Aeluri went after him, so you don't have to worry."

The stylish and normally laid back alien whirled on her with abnormal fury, fists clenched though he didn't raise them against his dearest friend. Clearly, he wanted to raise it against something, though. He needed to. "Leave me alone, Aeluri," Iris warned in a low, trembling tone. The typical purr and sultry drawl in Iris's voice had all but died now. Instead, it was abrupt. Angry. It had a strained rasp as if he was clenching this throat to keep control. And while he changed his eyes often as he needed access to certain spells and skills, this change had no apparent purpose other than to filter his sudden outburst of rage. It was almost as if it was purely manifested by an emotional response.

He walked backward away from her, wanting to put distance between himself and his group of friends. The Atlantean didn't trust himself in the least with how chaotic his mind was. The regret was deep that he hadn't numbed himself better before this outing. His duties in Hidden Blades had him wound up tight and sober too much with not enough distraction. The alcohol he'd consumed so far today wasn't enough to numb out the darkness. One of the fists raised to his own head, giving himself a nice tap on the forehead as if that would help free him from his torment. They were overwhelming! The betrayal was still so fresh, even though it'd been at least a couple of centuries. He wasn't doing enough! In all this time he should have been able to carve through ever single Rune Knight and Magic Council member to see what color they bled, to suss out his ultimate enemy. What had he done? Filled the void and diverted his attentions with partying, substances, guilds he thought would help aid his agenda.

Seeing as how the festival grounds were quite crowded, it only took a few unwitting steps to run into some poor soul. "Hey!" the older man cried, giving Iris an elbow in return. The cosmic being didn't hold back against this stranger, shoving him into the crowd without reservation. The person the man ran into gave him a shove back, and from there it was a domino effect. Iris grabbed the next random person that came his way and punched him, essentially starting a riotous brawl right in the middle of a snowy field of people already primed for mild violence over a snowball war. A wicked grin stretched his mouth. The violence soothed his wrath just a little, though the pain from being on the receiving end of punches and kicks provided more of a boon.

Hey, at least Ahote couldn't complain about him taking peoples' eyes, which he would be enjoying much more than this but he didn't want the young man wretching everywhere.

Iris was definitely not acting like himself. Such was clear as he whirled on Aeluri with fists raised. Usually he was the one begging to be hit instead of threatening others. His voice had changed tone drastically. The hoarse, angry words made the woman pause mid step. This was not the Iris she knew. This Iris was irrationally angry, blunt, afflicted.

“Iris. You’re acting strangely,” Aeluri said cautiously, her voice calm. She took another step closer to the agitated man. Her intent was to stay collected so as not to aggravate Iris any more. “What’s going on with you?” Her words seemed to be in vain as he began backing away from her. Aeluri refrained from pursuit until he had gained some distance. Perhaps it would just be easier to keep an eye on him from a distance until he calmed down. She really didn’t want to become the subject of his wrath. Aeluri rather valued her eyes.

Glancing over her shoulder, she realized that Ahote and Baird were watching from nearby. The two had kept their distance, a sensible choice. She beckoned to them, then turned to follow Iris’ path. He had almost disappeared into the crowd beyond, but his vibrant violet hair was still visible. Aeluri made her way towards him.

A shout caught her attention. Iris had pushed past a man roughly, who returned the assault as she watched. A full on brawl resulted. Everyone on the field was either throwing punches or scrambling to escape the chaos. Mothers pulled their children to safety while men let out feral roars and joined the fray. Aeluri stopped in her tracks for a moment and just watched. She had lost track of Iris in the brawl.

There he was! Mismatching eyes spotted violet hair flying in the center of everyone. Aeluri didn’t take her eyes off of his location. The woman was inclined to knock some sense into her space dust companion. Not only was he acting strange, but he had initiated a brawl. It was entertaining but it didn’t help the situation. She wanted to know what was going on with him.

“Do either of you want to go fetch him?” Aeluri spoke without moving her eyes. Though it seemed to be to nobody in particular, she was addressing Ahote and Baird, should they have caught up with her. She didn’t particularly want to get involved in the fight, but perhaps one of the other two men would be willing.

Iris has a knack for causing chaos wherever he went. Or, this was Ahote's personal opinion on him, but what he had accomplished today was in a different league. He almost wasn't sure if Iris was to blame for the rioting or the barbaric townspeople for partaking in it. Regardless, when Aeluri had beckoned them over, he realized that he would have to postpone his chat with Baird for another time. Right now, the question that burned in all of their minds was what was wrong with Iris, and, at least to Ahote, how were they going to calm things down?

With a solemn expression, Ahote walked over to Aeluri with a distinct gloom. There was a subtle tinge of irritation on his face as he approached the uproar, reluctant to get any closer than he had to. "No, I don't want to fetch him, but..." he looked at Aeluri, and then at the riot before them. It was hard to want to go into such a frenzy, but all three of them were either concerned or curious about Iris's abrupt "snap" from earlier. The situation was all very troubling and instantly put Ahote on edge, and while he would have avoided volunteering or would have been the one of the first to opt-out of this situation, a little riot didn't seem had terrible of an obstacle if his goal was to retrieve Iris.

With an anxious, brooding sigh, Ahote stepped into the horde of men. He could smell the sweat in between the icy breezes, and it was weirdly musty for a day as chilly as this. The riot looked daunting, and it was, but weaving around each of the brawlers was hardly a challenge. A sorcerer of his caliber couldn't have struggled with sloppy punches like this after all, and none of the brawlers seemed focused on this average-sized man slipping in between and around them as they roughed each other up. Needless to say, it was nerve-wracking to some degree, and for Ahote, he expressed that as vexation. But after moments of slithering through the crowd, finally, the lilac was in reach, and he was eager to reel him in.

Abruptly, Ahote reached outward and grabbed Iris, attempting to get his attention. He grabbed what he thought was Iris's shoulder, but as luck would have it, where his hand landed was anywhere but. As a result of nearby brawlers' pushing and shoving, Ahote's pale hand had found itself firmly planted on the lilac's rear. It was not where he intended it to be, but it would have been worse to let go and to let Iris slip out of his reach again. "Iris!" he said to him in a raised voice, attempting to be heard among all the other shouts and grunts of fellow brawlers, though his voice was naturally much softer than everyone else around him. He hoped to God that Iris would say nothing of it!

music and sound goes hand in hand,
They're loud and beautiful, just like me.
beware, beware, the music man likes to play

A snicker had escaped Bairds lips over by the snowman contest when Ahote had told him to mind his business, and he simply shrugged his shoulders. He didn’t care one bit, but teasing him seemed very much like a lot of fun. Maybe it was a good thing he met this guy now? Baird snickered at that thought before he had gone to watch Iris with his ice sculpting. After the purple haired person seemed to have his freak out, Ahote had seemed to hold Baird back from going to talk to Iris, letting Aeluri go and talk to the other instead.

He took a deep breath as he put a hand on his hip, observing the other couple for now, till Iris started backing away and went into a crowd. He looked over to Aeluri as she motioned for them to come over to her, and moved around Ahote, not letting him stop him again. The green haired musician half jogged after the female and noticed the start of the brawl that Iris seemed to have started. He stopped next to Aeluri and rested his elbow on her shoulder if she let him do so. With a deep sigh, he watched the fight, seeing glimpses of the purple haired person in the crowd.

Talk of wanting to go fetch the other was starting up apparently, and Baird simply shrugged his shoulders as he looked over to Ahote. “If you don’t want to, I’ll gladly go do it.” He snickered. Ahote seemed to go in regardless, and Baird seemed a little impressed. He leaned close to Aeluri and smirked to her. “I’ll be back, sweetheart. I’ll drag them both back too.” He promises as he gives a quick air kiss before he starts making his own way towards the rumbling horde of men. He managed to slip around some of them and not get hit at first. Then a foot got jutted out at his side as someone punched another person, and he tumbled down onto another group. Baird couldn’t help but let out a joyous laugh as he quickly avoided another punch and made his way towards Ahote and Iris, seeing Ahote grabbing the others ass. He let up a wolf whistle and patted Ahote’s shoulder.

“Didn’t strike you as an ass man! But I think I like you a bit more!” He chuckles to the other. He took advantage of Ahote holding onto Iris so he could go around and grab his bicep. If Iris went to swing at him for grabbing his arm, Baird would try to lean back enough to avoid being hit, and swung his own fist at the others face to get him to listen even for a second. “Darling! I much rather get rough in a bedroom than out here in public! But I won’t say no to a bit of action out here in this lovely group of fine men!” He calls out loudly, calling his voice from his diaphragm to amplify it above the crowd. He was snickering to the other, glancing over to Ahote, wiggling his eyebrows to him. His voice had been heard by a couple men, who gave faces towards Baird, but were quickly distracted by attacks from others real quick again.

Even though the hot, angry tears were still streaming down his face, Iris relentlessly continued to throw his body and mind into the brawl. Anything, literally anything to wipe the noisy thoughts out of his head. This was the only pain Iris didn't enjoy, and the one that hurt him more than anything. The unskilled punches of all these men hardly even tickled his pain receptors, much to his dismay. At this point, he was praying someone would pull out a butterfly knife and eviscerate him. A single unhinged soul would do. He'd even hand over his own blade to do the job. Please, just anything to get her out of his brain!

If Ahote had been looking to at least stun the hysterical Iris for a second and quiet his flurry of wild punches, it worked. Iris paused at the merciless cupping of his magnificently shaped buttock, never one to ignore advances even when he was in crisis. Turning slowly to see the literal last person on the planet attached to the hand groping him, Iris's bruised and bloody face twisted into an expression that meant nothing good for the brunette man. Or maybe it meant everything good, depending on how Ahote felt about being on the receiving end of his amorous actions. Given past experience, though, it would hardly go well for either of them. Alas, they would never find out, for before he could make a move there was another hand on him. The new guy was holding him back from something he very much wanted now, so of course, he swung at Baird. Iris was in no mood to have his impulses restrained unless it was for foreplay. Punchy Iris was not pleased.

His punch missed, but he got a nice one across his face in return. Okay, that was interesting. "Hnnnng~" he moaned, reveling in the pain. He all but forgot about Ahote in an instant. "Public, bedroom? Who cares!" Iris huffed, feverish and desperate. His body turned toward Baird, pushing forward for a kiss and hopefully to push him down to the ground for unspeakable things.

Aeluri remained on the fringes of the crowd, watching her teammates among the fray. Ahote had approached and grabbed Iris’ butt by accident, which seemed to catch his attention. Then Baird, following Ahote, had grabbed the violette’s bicep. Dodging the lashing strike, the musician had landed his own punch. Aeluri grimaced. That may distract Iris enough to cease his rampage, but it would only cause him to get turned on. They all knew how much of a masochist he was.

As she suspected, Iris had lunged for Baird in an attempt to fornicate among the trampling feet and snow. A sigh escaped her lips. This really wasn’t the time nor place. They had to figure out what was wrong with Iris, and her teammate’s attempts only ceased his fighting. Pacing for a moment, Aeluri’s frustration caused her to make a decision. No matter if it made a scene, she would just have to barge in and remove the Buzz Killers from the brawl. There was no way to confront Iris among so much chaos.

The dark woman began to weave among the fighting civilians. Her slight frame allowed for fairly easy navigation. However, a few punches and kicks managed to get through. She could feel her ribs bruising from a particularly nasty one. This only contributed to her growing annoyance.

At last, Aeluri reached her teammates in the center of the brawl. Using a spark of magic power, she began to pull shadows towards her. They twisted and swirled like smoky snakes, funneling towards her hands. Within seconds her hands were covered with a few inches of swirling shadows that acted as gloves. She could feel strength pooling in her arms and core.

Aeluri stomped towards Iris and Baird who seemed to be caught up in each other. Violet and green mixed together like some kind of odd flower. Feet and snow still flew around them, though some of the closer people paused and backed up as the irritated woman approached.

Reaching out, Aeluri grabbed the back of Iris’ shirt and the front of Baird’s. With ease, she pulled the tall men to their feet. Her face was screwed up in a scowl. Letting go of their shirts, she reached up and grabbed them by the ear, her shadowy hands granting an iron grip. Pulling them behind her, deaf to any complaints, Aeluri forcefully marched out of the brawl. “Ahote!” she snapped, turning back to look at the other Buzz Killer. “Come on.” Assuming his milquetoast compliance, she turned and continued without looking back.

The crowd parted occasionally for them to get through. A few times Aeluri had to use Iris and Baird as a shield for flying punches, which she was sure they didn’t mind. Shortly they exited the fight, which continued to rage in the background. Releasing the musician, Aeluri continued to drag Iris up to a nearby tree. Her grip transferred from his ear to his shirt, pinning him against the tree with her fist and the strength granted by the shadows on her hands.

“Iris,” she growled. “What the hell is going on with you?”
