~Personality~

Esper has a strong sense of honor and courage, especially regarding those who go against their word. He is polite, curious and observant, with something of a distaste for humans who don't accept him, which may stem from childhood trauma. He is intelligent, and knows much about magic being that he is fairly old by human standards.

Esper can still be feral when called upon. Esper's novella in On the Way to a Smile expands on this duality, showing Esper's torn between living like an animal or a human—his intelligence and conscience make it difficult for him to live as an animal, while his animal appearance and qualities make him seem as such by humans who disregard his humanizing traits.

Since Esper is a animal, he acts similar to regular animals at times: eating food, treats, fish, and playing with toys, as well as having animal-like weaknesses. He is fiercely loyal to those he is bonded with, but with time, he will show loyalty to all people he meets.

While he doesn't know his age or when he was born he has a rough guess of being around 100 years old. Most of that time was spent in the wilds near Oak Town hiding from both humans and predator's when he could. To this date he hasn't been able to find another of his kind and longs to know if he is a of a particular race, or something else entirely. Even after all the years observing magic, learning about it and talking with both beasts and people the best he can gather is he is just a magical beast. He is not some god, dragon or devil, just an intelligent animal capable of casting magic.

Having spent most of his times in the wilds he now finds himself at at crossroads. Eventually he'd make the description to go into town and make himself known so that he could become what the humans call a mage or wizard. Maybe with the help of a guild he might become strong enough to venture out further into the world and find more of his race, or at least some answers.

~ Food Plain and simple. Esper loves food, and seems to be able to eat a lot for his frame.
~ Reading He has a fondness for ancient tomes, books on magic and lore. Anything that can help him learn more about magical beasts.
~ Honesty Esper is a creature of honor and likes those who are honest.

~ Bigots Being treated solely like an animal despite his intelligence can rub him the wrong way.
~ Loud Noises For obvious reasons. He has keen hearing.
~ Powerful smells For obvious reasons. He has as keen sense of smell.

~ Hope To discover if there are more like him out in the world.
~ Growth To grow to a level of power he can travel the world without fear.
~ Truth If he can't find more of his kind, he at leasts is motivated to find out about himself/his kinds origins.

~ Death He fears the dying before finding out the truth of who and what he is.
~ Hunters He fears being hunted by dark mages and poachers out for his pelt, or worse.
