Rise From The Ashes (City of Era) Empty Rise From The Ashes (City of Era)

Post by Mythal Ragnos 10th March 2019, 10:51 pm

    Spoiler:

I've been out there and seen the things she's made

How could this have actually happened?

After everything that had happened in Kingdom Darkness, after all the things they had faced when going up against Faera’s forces, they deserved a break. Both he and Serilda had pushed themselves to their limits and they had felt that, maybe perhaps, they had earned themselves a short reprieve. So they had journeyed to Era, intent on doing some errands and perhaps meeting up with Branwen. It had been awhile since the God Slayer had seen the older man and after everything, he probably deserved some kind of explanation. There was also the matter of asking him about Gren – supposedly his father was alive so there wasn’t a doubt in his mind that the Rune Knight would have an idea on such a thing.

They had turned in the criminals they had meant to bring and were just about ready to go find Branwen when a loud and earth-shattering explosion had rocked the ground beneath them. Glancing at one another briefly and then to the closest window had revealed geysers of dark smoke drifting up from the actual city. Cries of agony and terror reached even through the walls and panes of glass, a sure sign that something terrible was happening and it was not avoiding the citizens. They tore out of the building, dead set on charging to the city’s defense when yet another detonation shook the world around them, this time from the Magic Council building. Two near simultaneous explosions and in such a short distance away from one another. This was clearly some kind of coordinated attack. But it also meant that Serilda and Mythal had to split up – neither one of them could be in two places at once and it was unacceptable to focus on one area rather than the other. The Voidwalker took off towards the Council building and the Darkness King raced down the hill into the city.

As he came to a near sliding stop, a small Star Wolf skidded on the ground beside him. Unlike Serilda’s wolf which was practically full grown, Gren was still practically a puppy in size and in heart. Though this was one of the rare times he had a far more serious look on his small face, his dark fur seemed to ripple with a purple light, the energy giving him a near smoky sheen. He wuffed excitedly, eager to test out his mettle against the villains that had dared attack the city.

The destruction was centralized to the opposing end of the city so far but was spreading rapidly. Much like a tidal wave working over a shore, the chaos would soon swallow up the entirety of the metropolis if he didn’t act quickly. As he rounded a corner towards the center of town, he could see all of the citizens running around in a wild, near manic flow. There was no coordination and plenty of people were being pushed to the ground and practically trampled. Mythal pushed through the people just as several Rune Knights came from the other side of the square, looking to bring some kind of organization to the panicked citizens. The men and women roared their voices over the screams, pointing in certain directions to cut the flow and even out the people fleeing. Several of the people continued to race in their own ways but the authoritative voices of the Knights quelled some of the fear temporarily and corralled a good portion of the people.

Mythal went over and picked several of the trampled citizens to their feet, making sure they were capable of moving before sending them on their way. He paused for only a brief moment to look up towards the hillside, where the Magic Council building was. Smoke was billowing off of the structure as well and he could hear the pained cries of people within. Once he took care of whatever was attacking the city, he’d make sure he could get back to aid Serilda. She didn’t need his help of course but he felt better about backing her up.

“Mythal? Mythal Ragnos?” A voice called out, drawing his attention behind him.

The God Slayer turned to see the young, familiar Rune Knight jogging over to him, looking far more weary than cheery. The man had been a recruit when Mythal had come here last, having just joined the Knights in hopes of finding adventure. He’d been less than thrilled over the prospect of duty until the God Slayer had come in and practically beat the crap out of him and his brethren. Since then, he’d run into the man in Hargeon and the Haunted Mansion, both jobs involving the Rune Knights. It seemed he couldn’t get away from the man… though right now, he was glad to see a familiar face. “Hey…” he said as he turned to face him completely.

“Jeez, didn’t expect to find you here,” the man half-laughed, a nervous tinge to his voice.

“Any idea what’s happenin’?” Mythal asked, nodding in the direction of the smoke.

The man shook his head. “When the first explosion hit, my commander ordered me to fall back and take care of the citizens. Once we’ve evacuated the city, we’re to split our forces – one group will head up to aid the Magic Council while the other will return to him.”

    “Is it Branwen?”

“Yes. He was running a training routine when the attack started. He’s probably right in the thick of things right now,” the Rune Knight stated simply. “Are you going to him?”

Mythal was about to answer when his ears and senses picked up something. Movement; quick, agile movement that was so swift he could barely pinpoint it. Fast moving enemies from the sound of it. A solid landing in the shadow of a rooftop gave him just enough warning to throw himself at the young Rune Knight, yanking him from his feet and pulling him out of position. A slew of swords, all of varying shapes, stabbed into the ground right where he had been standing a moment ago. Several of the other Rune Knights were not as lucky; blades pierced their torsos and their dying cries fell with their bodies to the ground.

Mythal adjusted his footing as the young Rune Knight stumbled to the ground, yanking Curse out from behind him. It flipped around instantly and he pulled the hair trigger just beneath the handle, releasing a gunshot in what seemed like a blind shot. But the sharp gasp of pain that came from the roof, followed by the limp body of a man falling and hitting the pavement, showed he knew exactly where the man was.

“How in the…?” The man gasped out. “I didn’t even see them!”

“There’s more,” Mythal explained, yanking the man up to his feet. “They’re movin’ along the rooftops, trying to get on either side of evacuatin’ people. We gotta move.” He was already heading in the direction of the fleeing citizens.

“What about Branwen?” The man asked, stumbling but following right after the God Slayer.

“Bastard’s lived this long – I doubt a few gnats are gonna take him down,” the Darkness King shouted back. As much as he was worried about Branwen – and he was worried – it was far more important that he help the people get out of the town first. There were only a handful of Rune Knights moving with the pack, the others felled by the man from the roof.

He had a sick feeling that wasn’t going to be enough.

Rise From The Ashes (City of Era) Empty Re: Rise From The Ashes (City of Era)

Post by Axilmeus Steel 11th March 2019, 5:50 pm

Having just arrived in Era, Sigurd was looking forward to the prospects of a new job. Having essentially given up his goal of becoming a hero mage, following the disbandment of his guilds, he had brought all of his weapons and armor to pawn off at whatever shop he could find before starting his first day at the Rune Knight's Headquarters. Just in the past week, he had actually been hired by the knights... as a sous-chef. Truthfully, Sigurd held no resentment in his heart, his own dream had always been to become a great chef, and simply focusing on that would be enough to last his life, or so he figured.

Those were the thoughts going through his head while he stood outside the door of the pawn shop, a large sign overhead painted with the bulletin calling anyone to get rid of their trash. He grabbed the heavy canvas bag he had slung over his shoulder, gripping its edges and pulling them apart to get a glance inside. A full suit of armor he had custom made immediately preceding Crystal Swan's disbandment. A magical sword he had never had the chance to use in combat. Of course, to accompany them, his trusty cape he had commissioned to be made from the legendary pirate king's jacket. Yes, there wouldn't be any use for these things now... so why did he feel tears welling up in his eyes?

Tchaik let out a coo, sensing its master's melancholy. Sigurd was still containing the creatures in a knapsack, with a mesh covering for its eyes. "Don't worry buddy, maybe now I can start carrying you around in public!" he said, as he began to walk towards the door of the establishment.

Just as he was reaching for the handle, an earthshaking explosion rang through the city, followed by a cacophony of voices in peril, which rose over the roofs of Era. Sigurd was not engulfed in the flames of the blast, but had been close enough that the force from the explosion sent him flying through the door and into the shop. Dazed, he slowly rose up from the floor, to find a skinny, elderly salesman shaking from fear. "W-w-what was that noise? Are you okay, y-young man?" he asked, his jaw trembling as violently as his knees.

Steeling his expression, Sigurd felt a familiar feeling well up inside his heart. "Sir, I'd like to request that you find a place to hide immediately. I don't want to jump to any conclusions," he said, attempting to maintain a professional sense of calm, "But I can tell you for sure that something dangerous is happening."

The old man let out an involuntary moan, then ran down into the cellar of the building. Left alone, Sigurd had a decision to make...

    "Someone! Please help me! Please!,"
cried a woman, running through the streets of Era. Turning the corner, she was met with a brick wall. She spun around to see six glints; three cruel grins and three sharpened battleaxes.

The one in the center with the blue hair began to taunt the trapped woman, "Hey lil' miss, you look lost. Why don't me and my boys give you a helping hand? Whadda ya say!" he sneered, swinging his axe down at the defenseless civilian. Almost from nowhere, Sigurd appeared, his cape whirling around him, and his sword, Moonbeam, locking blades with the battleaxe. Garbed in his jet black armor, the axe-wielder was startled, and with relative ease, Sigurd thrust forward, knocking him to the ground.

"Picking on an innocent young women? You truly are the lowest of scum," Sigurd judged, walking towards the group of villains, causing them to back up slightly.

"One against three?" The barbarian on the right said, trying to cover up the nerves, "That's suicide!" As he yelled, he rushed forward with his axe, only to be met by a bolt of lightning coming from an odd, egg shaped being that emerged from the shadows as well. Its wide eyes shone with curiosity as the man collapsed to the ground. Flying forth from Sigurd's other side was a white humanoid who swiftly grabbed the third enemy by the neck, grunting as he tossed him in the Dark Knight's direction. One armored fist to the stomach later, only the blue-haired man remained.

Sigurd calmly walked toward the man who was struggling to get up, while Godot and Tchaik closed in behind him. "Villains against a hero?" he asked, sarcasm dripping from his tone, "that's suicide," he said, bringing the hilt of his enchanted sword down onto the back of the man's skull, knocking him out.

After seeing to it that the civilian woman was in a safe spot, Sigurd took off, his companions trailing behind him. He had taken note of the guild mark on the bodies of the scoundrels he had dispatched of just earlier. It was logical to assume the attack was a concentrated assault by the guild, but why would they have the gall to attack the entire city of Era directly? Surely there was some motive other than utter destruction. Well, either that or their guildmaster had a death wish. Either way, such a thought was probably above his pay-grade as a sous-chef.

Another issue prodding Sigurd's mind was that of his resurgence as a mage. Of course, he certainly didn't mind the thrill of battle, but he had sworn to commit to his culinary practice. Sigurd, you fool, he scolded himself, there are innocent lives at stake here, of course the only course of action here is to do all that you can to protect them.

As Sigurd rounded a corner, he was just barely missed by a flying bolt of fire. Spinning, he caught a glimpse of another dark-guilder running along the rooftops. He nodded to Godot, giving the alien warrior he had summoned the command to fire off a concussive blast. The blue beam of light fired forth from Godot's forehead, making a satisfying smack as it collided with the armor of the opposing mage, sending him flying over the rooftops. Turning to his right, Sigurd saw a band of Rune Knights running to the aid of a handful of fleeing citizens. He waved over as he ran towards them with his bizarre looking entourage. "Ahoy, noble knights, I am Darknight, I've handled a couple of your postings in the past! My team and I are here to help however we can!"

Rise From The Ashes (City of Era) Empty Re: Rise From The Ashes (City of Era)

Post by Dela 14th March 2019, 12:50 am

"GET IT TOGETHER, HODGINS!" bellowed a swarthy man at the edge of the hallway, frantically motioning both veteran and green Rune Knights alike out from the armories and briefing rooms. While most others had already skittered out of the building and scattered all over Era to combat the threat and herd the citizens, one lone Rune Knight had fallen behind all the others. Dela was still very new. Barely out of boot camp and not even divided into a branch yet, she stepped out of the room still trying to buckle the last of the cumbersome uniforms buttons. But her general sloth-like motions were less inexperience or nervousness, but rather that it was just too much darn effort to rush around like the others. There would be plenty of chaos waiting for her regardless of how long it took her to get out on the beat. If all this madness could be solved in the extra five or ten minutes it took her to comply, then they really didn't need her, now did they?

Too bad it really wouldn't be taken care of by the time she was literally ushered out the door by Mario. There had been that small amount of hope that she'd join up just as everything was winding down. Then she could just arrest some injured sap and waltz right back to start the booking process. Alas, the smoke still rose with gusto, the screams were loud as ever, and people were generally losing all their wits and acting like scared sheep without a shepherd. Time to get her shepherd's crook out...or in this case, her Beautiful Gazer. Dela didn't transform, though. She found that the other officers didn't appreciate her black uniform shredding to make way for a magical girl sailor outfit, and frankly she didn't appreciate it either. The uniform itself might not be her style, but she found its deep black hue quite nice.

Once she made it to a throng of arms and legs attempting to trample each other into oblivion just to save their own skins, the blonde heaved a heavy sigh. "People! People! Listen, let's try to behave more like sentient humans instead of livestock, shall we?" she called, waving her staff in a wide arc over her head. It was pink and gold and shiny as heck, but that wasn't what would catch the panicked peoples' attention. The crystal nestled in the heart at the top pulsed with a bright light, then produced a giant stuffed animal resembling her tabby cat. It leapt over the people and started to press toward them, literally altering their course while using a plushy paw to harmlessly bat at anyone that tried to run over someone else.

With that handled as well as she could, the giant plush disappeared in a puff of sparkles once that group of people were safe. Azure eyes peering around, her peach lips pulled down into a disgruntled frown. Well, this was a fine mess she had a feeling she'd be cleaning up. Between explosions and the stampede, the streets were a literal mess. The bodies of her new colleagues were tossed to and fro with various weapons hanging out of wounds. She had a feeling she was supposed to feel a bit more upset over their mortality, but death lost its sting for the girl. Whether she meant to or not, she'd adopted the same lackadaisical view she had for life for death as well.

What she did suffer from, other than crippling laziness, was unquenchable curiosity. Since she was already forced to do her job, she might as well investigate the incident in general. Who was doing this? Why? Was it for themselves and some grand scheme, or had they been hired? What was the goal? Her nose was gravitating naturally to where it shouldn't be, which would ultimately result in her getting in over her head. Dela did it anyway...

...And that resulted in a rather embarrassing scene. Careening out of a random alley was a majestic unicorn and a full-on magical girl in near tears. Her uniform was shredded somewhere nearby given the golden buttons bouncing on the cobbled stone behind her, and instead she had a white sailor's outfit with a short baby blue skirt around her waist and ribbon at her bust. Knee-high matching boots dug into Chester's sides, trying to spur the already speedy mythical horse to go faster. Thick blonde locks had been magically divided into two, trailing behind her to mirror Chester's rainbow tail. Just a few meters behind said tail was a group of four adept Crimson Fang members. They seemed to be their own little speed team, since their legs were little more than blurs so they could keep up with a friggin' unicorn's gallop. While death didn't scare her, violence against her certainly did. It wasn't rational and she knew it, but here she was anyway screeching and furiously shooting bursts of glitter out to blind the group as well as blast them with pastel energy beams. They tossed several elemental attacks at her, though her wild attacks did manage to knock one of them down to be left in their dust. The other three continued to laugh and shout as if it was just an entertaining game to them, though perhaps they'd change their tune once Chester began violently farting rainbow beams at them.

"HEEEELLLLP!!!" Dela wailed, tears actually falling now though her sobs were interrupted by the rough rhythm of her unicorn's hoof falls. Maybe someone would come to her aid. Yes, as a Rune Knight, she was supposed to be the savior of the broken, the beaten, and the damned.. but the uniform and countenance that went with that had shredded along with her dignity as soon as the blade had relieved her of a few stray hairs. She never ever claimed to be skilled in combat! She'd barely survived boot camp to squeak into the force. She was more a journalist that never published anything than a hero!

Rise From The Ashes (City of Era) Empty Re: Rise From The Ashes (City of Era)

Post by Albafica Temero 16th March 2019, 7:38 pm

They had been planning this for months, but it had seemed like ages. They'd mapped out the entire city; every nook, every cranny, every single sewer pit and corner one could round. All entryways to the city, both seen and unseen; from above and below ground they'd planned out their invasive manoeuvres. How they'd bring as many of their forces into city as they possibly could without raising suspicion, and according to the rumours, some members had even been working diligently to create extra routes going in and out of the city underground. And this all underneath the ‘almighty’ Magic Council's watchful eye. They knew nothing, yet had been boasting how they'd imprisoned several hot shots from the dark guild known as Crimson Fang. They had no idea what was coming for them. Era had no idea what they had in store for it. The city would remember, and rue the day they thought dark guilds were out for the count.

Even Albafica knew this much, and he had only joined hands with Crimson Fang not too long ago. Joined hands, because he found no need in joining either their guild or their cause. They didn’t interest him; all mere common rabble in his eyes. Yes, they were strong, they had the manpower and the numbers to make up for it. They had plans. But none of that had been able to convince the saint-in-training that they were worthy of his loyalty. His interest had all but been piqued, yet roaming around aimlessly in his current form wasn't the answer to his problems either. He needed something on his hands; something to do while he was bored out of his mind. Perhaps a place to stay, which the guild had gladly provided him with, and thus he had accepted. He would service them with his support in their upcoming endeavours in return for food and a roof above his head. A way to kill the time. And Crimson Fang happily accepted him within their midst, a sole mage of questionable age, but one that had survived the ordeals of both Basilisk Fang and Nightmare's demise. Although he hadn't exactly been there when they disbanded, just having both names mentioned on his record was enough to count him among the big shots. Especially as a 10 year-old. Little did they know this was merely an appearance and not his mental forte; for once he didn't hide the fact his mind thought the way any experienced adult would.

And it had brought him only merritt. Aside from the fact that he didn't have to pretend he was but a juvenile child borderlining a bratty attitude, he no longer needed to lower his head and undertake underhanded ways to get what he wanted. Albafica had shown he was a fighter, but also a thinker, earning him a spot among veterans in charge of the newest of their plans. Invading Era, attacking the Magic Council Headquarters and busting out their captured mates from prison, all the while raining down havoc upon the poor, unsuspecting citizens that lived under the Rune Knights’ care. Destructive moves with the intent of many a casualty were right up his alley, especially with some of his newest techniques he'd managed to pick up. So he'd been divided into the second group coming in from the West; their task was to spread chaos within the lower city itself as a diversion to the actual goal of this attack. The more casualties during their raid, the better.

Chaos. Destruction. Death. All these things had been events he'd first been trained to fight against in the past. To defend the weak and innocent from harm, so that death would never get them in its grasp. Yet look at him now; the azure-haired boy just reveled in bringing about all those things. To punish the weak if they tried to rule the strong, as they had no right to even do so if they couldn't back it up themselves. If he brought death to their doorstep then it was him being merciful, as he had ways to make them all regret not wanting to die immediately. Albafica sometimes wondered how he could've stooped so low, defying his every masters’ wishes. He knew that as a saint-in-training he was an utmost disgrace to both his cloth, the title and their legacy. But he cared not. They were dead, all of them brutally slaughtered in front of his very eyes three years prior. The attack on Sanctuary had left the child's mind barren, and his violence triggered. He couldn't allow it to happen again, having to watch helplessly, having to hide instead of fight.

In the young boy's eyes he should’ve died along with them, but they had wanted him to live. To carry the legacy of the Zodiac. Having to leave the place he’d dared call ‘home’ while passing by all those that had fallen had left him broken; it had changed him completely. The only dignity he cared for were the one he himself found true, for whatever others found dignified or not were no longer his standards. Survival of the fittest became Albafica's new life motto. And from it he rebuilt himself anew. The only thing he retained of his old lifestyle was that he wouldn't hurt innocent people that had been wronged, he could still help those from time to time. But even that line was rapidly fading… very rapidly. He was becoming more like the enemy he had been sworn to destroy than the guardian he was supposed to become. But without strength he could not live. Laws keeping him down while he was on his own was something he couldn't care less about. Perhaps a teaching figure could turn that all around; someone so strong it could make his entire body shiver. If he could find someone like that to follow around and be taught by, he could change his ways anew. But there had been none… and the call of the dark guilds with their fake promises of unlimited power were all too enticing.

So enticing even that he now found himself here, within the borders of Era, perched upon one of the higher roofs. Along with him a few more rookies, apparently part of the “team” he was in. One of the many teams scattered across Era awaiting the signal that would change thousands of lives today. Unlike his compatriots, whose hands were itching to get to work, Albafica wasn't. He just sat there, hands folded before him, his slender fingers tangled with one another, his resting against it. He was calm. Extremely calm and seemingly looking for something as his azure eyes scanned the horizon in search for that one thing be so desperately needed. A sign. Without it he wouldn't allow the rest of the rookies to move an inch off this roof. He hadn't been given the task to lead, but knowing they as rookies were just mere fodder to the more experienced members and thus were meant to die so they could slip past the many patrols, he'd decided to do so either way. Dying for a cause not his own wasn’t quite on his to do list, but it seemed he was the only one among the rookies gathered on the roof that had realised their “vital” role within this plan. He wouldn't babysit them, but keeping them alive that much longer would probably prove much more beneficial than anything else.

It was then that his eyes suddenly pulled away from the houses beneath them to look at the dark plumes rising from the east in the distance. A smile crept upon his lips, but he didn't budge just yet. The starting signal had yet to be given, but he could hear the excites ruckus behind him as the others too took note of the smoke. ”Not yet.” he spoke coldly as several of the group were edging towards the ledge of the roof overlooking the city. They halted and glared at Albafica, who didn't even bother returning a mere glance their way. ”If they've already noticed the smoke in the distance, that doesn't mean all the Council's troops are rushing that way. Just wait.” he replied to their glares. And then it finally came. A loud, almost sonic wave triggered across the city as the first explosion detonated, the ground rumbling like a beast’s threatening growl. The screams that suddenly erupted all around them like a symphony of pain and delirious madness. Then, the second explosion tore through the city from above; the azure-haired child watched as part of the building was blown asunder and rained down upon its citizens. He felt the earth underneath his feet not merely rumble but roar from the cheer force of this explosion, even if he was so high up. It was more akin to a heavy earthquake at this point, some of the less stable buildings even succumbing to the very strength of it. Albafica peered down unto the streets, seeing a group of rune knights hurriedly rushing past. He smirked. If only those idiots were to look up, they would've noticed. If only.

”Gentlemen… it's time at last. Let's go and have some well-deserved fun.” Albafica smiled as he rose from his seated position, feeling the wind blow menacingly as the Crimson Fang rookies blasted off the roof and unto the streets, each in another direction. The child shook his head and jumped down unto a lower platform, making his way across the roofs to remain out of sight as long as possible. He wasn't quite set on murdering innocents after all, but he would do his best to bring about as much chaos as he possibly could. And if that chaos happened to pertain casualties being made, then he would not be one to object. After all, he couldn't help it if anyone were to be ‘indirectly’ involved in the destruction he'd happily deliver. A tingling sensation went through his fingers as he picked up speed, heading deeper into town, but not closer to the besieged Magic Council building. Yes. This excitement was what he was looking for. The chaos somehow liberated him; nobody was paying attention to what happened above them when the panic had dug itself deep into the hearts of those downbelow on the cobblestone streets. His pace grew faster, wilder, until his running had become less of a dash and more a jumping motion; roof to roof, lean and agile.

He noticed how another had started following him, and a quick glance showed it to be one of his comrades. A Crimson Fang member going by the name of Pefko, who would probably be the only one Albafica had actually bothered putting in higher regard. Like him, Pefko was but a child, a few years older than him, and orphaned. His parents died in the line of fire, and the guild had taken to their last request of keeping the boy safe until he came of age. However unlike Albafica, he was an actual child, and not an adult mind trapped in an underaged shell. Pefko nodded, and likewise the azure-haired child slowed down enough for him to catch up, both coming to a skidding halt a hundred meters further, where a moderate group of Rune Knights had gathered. They seemed to be only one commanding officer for the large group, all of them busy trying to maintain order within the panicking masses that swarmed the streets. Both young mages gave each other a look of silent understanding and moved back a bit, enough so that they could no longer see any of the Rune Knights on the streets, and as such they too couldn’t be seen anymore. ”So Pefko… you think you can pull this off?” Albafica whispered underneath his breath, and Pefka nodded in reply. “Very sure I can, Albafica. That is to say, if you give me a hand in doing so.” A mischievous smile perched upon the child's lips, but the dark mage saw through it almost instantly. Pefko was scared. Merely doing this to keep up appearances in the guild, to show he was one of them. That smile was only a way of expressing that if he were to do this, he didn't want to do it alone. Did not wish to carry the burden alone. And frankly, the azure-haired saint-in-training knew all too well how heavy a burden was you weren't meant to carry. So he agreed. ”Don't you worry. We'll give them a great show… not to say they'll be having a blast.” Albafica ensured, stretching his arms sideways. ”Give me your best shot, Pefko!” Pefko extended a single hand and aimed it at the sky above them, both starting to gather their energy in a single burst of violent mana. Suddenly the sky turned dark across the square the Rune Knights were gathered at, lightning tearing through the sky as the clouds opened up. Light burst through it in the form of countless spears, barring all exits of the square in a circular motion. Albafica slammed his hands together and unleashed his magic upon the knights and people down below; ”Galaxian Explosion!!!” he roared, allowing his pent-up mana to unchain a series of meteors that rained down from the hole in the darkened clouds, all as if they were dying planets on the brink of exploding. And when they touched ground, that was exactly what they did. As if the sky was falling down upon humanity stuck within the vicinity of the square. As soon as the spell had been cast Albafica grabbed Pefko by his coat and pulled the child away from the roof they had launched their attacks from, speeding off into the opposite direction as fast as he could. By the time they'd gotten a dozen meters further, the house they sat upon crumbled underneath one of the fallen star's explosion.

At that time the two had been running like there was no tomorrow, as they'd agreed to beforehand. Hit and run. Run fast, because neither of them knew exactly how potent their opponents were. After having crossed over a kilometer they finally allowed themselves to slow down, and came to a halt coincidently once again near a square. One they weren't planning on hitting. This time they stayed out of sight as some of their compatriots took things into their own hands. Pefko wished to tag along, but was roughly halted by the azure-haired child, who's grip tightened on the boy's chest. Although the initial impact of his hit hadn't been much, the grasp of his fingers had been like iron wrenches. He looked at his friend and saw him motion to remain silent and crouched, suppressing every single bit of his magic and presence. Something irked Albafica, though he couldn't say what exactly it was. But it sent his heart into a frenzy, one not of excitement, but of fear. Only moments after, their comrade slumped down the roof and unto the streets, dead. The young boy's eyes widened, and then stared back at Albafica, who wore a frown that worried him more than anything. He'd never seen his friend frown like this… And Albafica? Albafica cursed himself for not having realised what the preemptive feeling of fear had been. A warning. This wasn't someone they could even remotely think of facing. Again, the azure-haired mage grabbed the boy by his shirt, however this time their escape route wasn't over the roofs. They were going down.

“Alba… what are you doing?! We can't just-” Albafica glared at the older boy, who promptly shut his mouth. ”This is how we're gonna do it, Pefko. Mingle with the crowds, and let yourself be guided to safety by them. I don't care how you do it, but get out of the city without any more casualties. We're aborting the mission… at least, you will. I'll try to keep them distracted.” Pefko was about to protest when he was pulled down, almost inches away from his friend's face. They azure eyes that looked at him were nothing like those of a child. They were filled with anger and ice. ”Listen carefully here, boy. Do as I say and get your ass out of here. We can't win this. We're the fodder here, bait. To be thrown for those council lions so that the rest may succeed. I couldn't care less about the lives of those fools, but yours has been more innocent than any of theirs. Survive today to live another, turn a new leaf and don't return to the guild for the next few weeks… just in case that we were to lose far more than just this battle.” Pefko remained silent, staring in disbelief. ”Do you understand? Pefko?!” There was anger in his voice, which he tried very much to contain as he nearly slammed the boy into the wall. Even though he was smaller, he could still do that much. ”If you wish to be like those idiots and die, then go ahead! But if you want to live, you listen to me. Now go!” A single pull was all it took to throw Pefko into the crowd. He fought against the current of people trying to pull him away from the azure-haired boy still standing with the alley, his eyes confused. He seemed to inhale deeply, but then nodded, the sadness clearly visible in his eyes. Then he turned around, and let himself be guided with the panicking masses, and hopefully, away from all the danger he would've otherwise faced.

In all honesty, Albafica all but wanted to do this. He was quite sure that Pefko would be safer when he was around than he would be without anyone to tell him right from wrong, but the boy could not always rely on a chaperone. He'd have to face the world alone at some point, and having realised this too late Albafica had chosen the worst of moments to remind him of such things. ”If we meet again, Pefko… we will make things right again. I promise.” he thought to himself, phasing through several buildings to get away from the threat that had caused him to retreat so eagerly. He yet again moved away from one source of danger towards another, and had taken to the rooftops once more as soon as the panicking crowds had lessened. Now sitting upon the reinforced balustrade of a balcony the boy was occupied by everything, and at the same time nothing at all. He wasn't quite exactly having second thoughts about his alignment just yet, but perhaps the way he was going about it… this attack on Era. It just wasn't his style to murder innocents without a proper cause. He didn’t feel bothered by it, but it wasn't that doing so would make him feel great either. It was an inconvenience, if he had to put it into words. One he'd rather not have.

Loud shouting pulled the saint-in-training from his pondering, and as he struck his gaze upon the streets before him saw what might as well have been a scene straight out of a fairy tale. Which was quite ironic in this type of universe. A blonde damsel in… was that a sailor suit? Well, the blonde Sailor Damsel was quite obviously in distress, seeing how unceremoniously she hung across the back of her unicorn, clamping to its neck for dear life as she was being tailed by a threesome of none other than his fellow dark mages of Crimson Fang. They seemed to be awfully enjoying the blatant chase they were giving the young blonde woman, who on her turn seemingly had been through better days. Or at least, her uniform had. Getting over the fact Sailor Damsel was riding a freaking unicorn through the cobblestone streets the way she did, Albafica felt something tingle within his chest. An aching. There would've been a time he wouldn't have cared, but now he couldn't even go by with the mere thought of ignoring her call for help. It was only when she called out for help once more, her voice piercing his very conscience, that Albafica reacted and jumped down unto the streets.

He dropped down from above, pulling off a perfect landing as he rose to his feet in the second that followed. Four roses of pure white formed within his hand, resting between his slender fingers as he stood in the galloping unicorn's way. He wondered at what to do, contemplating to paralyze the creature, woman and her assailants alike, but opted against it since she would be in his firing range if he did. A grin perched upon the azure-haired child's face as he took the equine creature head on, not moving an inch as it drew closer and closer. Only on the final moments, when mere inches were away between his child-like body and its trampling hooves that a blue glow surrounded Albafica. And with it, he phased through both horse and rider, to appear again behind them unharmed. Without a word he rose his arm, and flung three of the roses towards her pursuers. They cried out as each of the roses struck their intended target in the heart, the impact forcing them to halt their pursuit. Their faces contorted as the white roses started drawing their blood, injecting their venom while coloring themselves a vibrant crimson red. Albafica's cold eyes stared upon them as they slumped unto the ground one by one, offset by the fact that they'd been taken down by one they considered their own… a thought the azure-haired child did not share. Once the last rose had fully turned crimson, he turned his back upon the fallen dark mages, wondering what had come to happen with Sailor Damsel and her horny horse. Horned. Not horny. Well, not that he knew. Or wanted to know. The single white rose still resting between his fingers swayed softly as he tried to pinpoint where the girl had gone. Hopefully, she had stopped somewhere. If she had, he'd get closer, but not too close, to maintain a safe distance from him. ”Are you okay, Miss?” he asked carefully, hoping not to freak her out too much.

Rise From The Ashes (City of Era) Empty Re: Rise From The Ashes (City of Era)

Post by Mythal Ragnos 18th March 2019, 8:42 pm

I've been out there and seen the things she's made

There were cries of pain and anguish all around them as Mythal and the young Rune Knight charged up the street, tracking the heels of the pedestrian group that had passed through. The other man was still a bit shaken, but he was moving with purpose, which was saying something considering the chaos around them. They hadn’t made it nearly half the street’s length when the sound of a explosion on the roof near them. The Darkness King spun, slamming his heel into the ground and preparing for another fight. What he saw was another dark wizard flying over the rooftops, crossing the trench between buildings and slamming into a wall on the opposing row of structures, where he stuck like a pin in a board.

A voice called out to them from an approaching citizen, drawing both men’s attention. The God Slayer turned to face the approaching knight, his stance defensive, as this… strangely armored man came charging towards them. With a suit as black as night, with white adornments that highlighted the plates on his chest piece and one combined one over the face that resembled a skull’s façade, Mythal assumed by appearance that this was an enemy coming to head them off. He introduced himself as Darknight; a rather on-the-nose way of describing himself. He also claimed to be there to assist. Beside him was a… well, it was hard to describe what he was seeing. He was a humanoid-like being, standing several inches above Mythal and the Rune Knight, and adorned like some kind of… Mythal honestly didn’t have a word.

It seemed he was here to help, or so he said. Given that everything was falling apart around them, the God Slayer didn’t really have much time to grill him to verify his intentions. If he wanted to help, then he would just have to trust it for now. If he saw anything change, he would be sure to punish him for it. “Mythal,” he said, jabbing a thumb at himself quickly. It was about the only intro that this Darknight was going to get, given the danger of the situation. “If you’re offerin’ to help, I ain’t gonna turn ya down. We’re trying to make sure the people that came through here don’t get clobbered by these bastards on the roofs,” he said, gesturing to the structures around them.

Just as he finished speaking, he felt more movement in the shadows above. With all the flickering fires all around them, even more shadows were being cast around the city. Though he didn’t have solid pinpoints on all of them, he had a general idea of where people were moving or standing. He glanced upward as a group of eight figures took off down the rooftops, tearing down the path they had been following. A woman’s scream for help drew his attention in the opposite direction of the charging dark wizards, causing him to growl between his teeth. Too many directions to be pulled in. Luckily, an armored man had come to help him out.

“You, you and you” he said, pointing at Darknight, the odd white humanoid and the Rune Knight beside him. “You three split that group in two. Darknight, you and your… uh… ‘friend’ get up there and take them from behind. You defend them on the ground. I’m gonna try to get over and help the other people callin’ for help. I’ll meet up with you.” And just like that, his magic wrapped around him in a brimming, black cloak. Wings thrust out from his back and a dark halo hung above his head. He nodded to the three once more before he soared into the air, curling up above the building…

Just in time for a group of dark wizards to zap into existence on the roof. Each one of them turned to face the flying God Slayer, pointing at him. “Get that bastard!” One of them yelled, summoning forth a bolt of lightning in his hand. The Darkness King narrowed his eyes and jerked his body to the left just as the streak of electricity cracked through the air, narrowly missing him by inches. He spun around and dipped down, charging into offending party member with the full strength of his movement. Essentially shoulder slamming him, the dark wizard was sent flying over the street and onto the roof across, rolling a few times before coming to a solid stop. Mythal twisted around, Curse kicking up into its sword position, and swung at the next closest wizard, carving a shallow wound diagonally across his chest. His yelp of pain fell quiet instantly as the God Slayer kicked him in the stomach, driving out all the air from his lungs.

The young Rune Knight watched Mythal soar into the air and then immediately dive bomb into an apparent party of dark wizards. Truth be told, he felt a lot more confident with the God Slayer near him. His nerves were a bit ragged now that he didn’t have that strength beside him. But he took a sharp inhale through his nostrils and forced himself to relax. Panicking now wouldn’t help anyone and if he hoped to do any good, he had to keep his head on his shoulders. Darknight was still here and while he didn’t enjoy the idea of being left alone with a stranger, he didn’t have much choice. They had a job to do. He turned to the vigilante and nodded. “You guys take the roof,” he restated the commands Mythal had given, drawing his sword from its sheath. “I’ll make sure none of them hit any of the citizens.” Once Darknight confirmed the news, the young Rune Knight would charge down the street, once more tailing after the fleeing citizens.

All he could hope was that he wasn’t too late to save them.

Rise From The Ashes (City of Era) Empty Re: Rise From The Ashes (City of Era)

Post by Axilmeus Steel 23rd March 2019, 5:43 pm

Sigurd recognized the authority of the man addressing him. Mythal, as he called himself, had some sort of air of command that put the young mage's mind at ease when he ordered both him and one of his own allies to work in tandem. His assessment of the older man was all but confirmed when he sprouted wings and a halo from his back, demonstrating that he was something beyond human. The idea was conveyed, then, that this would be someone to get on the good side of. That's not to say that Sigurd would not have done his best to protect the people of Era without having been told to do so by what seemed to be some sort of angel, but that having himself under the watchful eye of such a figure definitely wouldn't hurt the effort he put into the task.

Nodding to the Rune Knight he had been assigned to this task to with, he began scaling the side of the building with his team of three, pulling himself onto the red tiles of the closest building's cap and began to pursue the enemy. Noting this, a few of the dark mages who were chasing after the damsel in distress. They readied their magic and their weapons, numbering over ten. The rest of the group continued to charge onward, determined to carry out whatever brutish orders of chaos they were following. Some of Sigurd's foes wielded knives, making them seem like easy targets to take out, but others were unarmed, clearly preparing themselves to use some sort of magical attack. Still others had more elaborate weaponry, with a few notably having crossbows, and some with both a simple melee weapon and a crossbow. A handful of the knife wielding thugs charged forward, but was intercepted by the mighty fist of the white alien, Godot, who managed to take them on, along with Tchaik who was eagerly and liberally using simple wind magic to attack his opponents.

Suddenly, Sigurd caught a glimpse of sunlight, just failing to parry a rapier thrust. Luckily, he managed to move away in time, but the tip of the blade still managed to slip through his armor, and about a centimeter into his skin. This was no mere thug he was fighting, with a blade that fine. Another glance at the man gave a new idea of who he was up against. He wore a sly grin on his face, with his bluish-black goatee and long curly hair complimenting his oily mustache. He wore an dark orange battle suit, with silver gauntlets. On the breast of his jacket was a familiar symbol. It was the family crest of the Bartoleo family. A rush of memories from a different time began to run through Sigurd's head. A family ended up tied to closely to crime, that was brought down by the rune knights. In Sigurd's young life, he knew the children of the family, for no one had suspected that they were secretly the ones behind one of Fiore's largest mob families. When the family was brought down, the children were spared, but Sigurd hadn't heard what had happened to them, out of curiosity however, he lowered his stance, which initiated a similar, but pensive reaction from his opponent.

"You there. Your style of swordsmanship, your crest... you may not expect it from someone like me, but I'm familiar with your family's story. One would think you'd have learned better than to get back into crime, no?" he prodded.

The other young man was clearly infuriated and caught off guard, his face reddening, a magic circle appeared around his feet, and propelled him forward, his sword now prepared to strike once more. "Die, you pig!" he hissed.

Sigurd was ready this time, however. In a flash he used his negative magic to warp time around the two opponents, ending up behind him, causing the startled rapier-wielder to spin around and lose his footing. Sigurd sighed underneath his jet black helm. "Full of promise," the blue-haired man's ears perked up, "Your father used to say you were full of promise. That's what I remember anyways. I remember you were the best young duelist of any of us. We would meet at one of our estates, and have fencing tournaments. Your control over speed magic came early, and you would always overpower me. Francis Bartolomeo!" Sigurd said, breaking out into a lunge, and bringing his sword down from over his head with as much force as he could muster, "How things have changed," he concluded, dropping his Darknight cadence for just a second.

Francis was so shocked at the words coming out of his foe's mouth that he didn't have the strength to parry the blow. He raised his rapier to counter the massive blow, but simply had it knocked out of his hands, onto the street below. Shaking, his voice full of disbelief, he mustered, "M---Maxwell of the Chevalier family? I thought you... I heard..."

"I'm afraid I don't know who you're talking about, villain," Sigurd retorted, returning to his guise as a black-cloaked superhero. "I sense in you a great honor, however. I will spare you on this day. Run far from here, and never cause trouble again," he couldn't help but smile under his mask, "Restore honor to your family's name."

The noble turned thug began to run off, but before he was out of earshot, turned to Sigurd. "Simon is here too. If you see him before I do... please... he deserves more forgiveness than I."

Sigurd's blood ran cold. Simon? He was Sigurd's own sisters age. Now that would mean he was only... Rage filled Sigurd's bones as he thought of the possibility that these monsters were bringing children that young into their fold, much less here to the front lines. Menacingly Sigurd began to step towards the other fight waging between Godot and the squadron of dark mages he was left to fight. Though he had managed to knock a few out, he was beginning to struggle, signs of wear and damage evident on his white skin. Grasping Moonbeam with a firm hold. He stepped forward with such a command in his presence that several dark guilders couldn't help but turn their gaze towards him. Sigurd charged the group, ready to unleash his full fury.

Rise From The Ashes (City of Era) Empty Re: Rise From The Ashes (City of Era)

Post by Dela 29th March 2019, 12:37 am

"Kid! KID! GET OUTTA THE WAY!" Dela howled, her white-gloved fingers tangled in Chester's glorious rainbow mane as she clung desperately to her get-a-way ride. "CHESTER WON'T STOP! MOOOOOVE!" continued the blonde, using one hand to wave frantically at the blue-haired dummy standing right in the path. The distance closed swiftly. Dela sealed her aquatic eyes shut in anticipation of accidentally killing a child, waiting for the impact and the sound of hooves snapping bones and squishing hundreds of pounds of horsey weight into the supple flesh of such a little human. Some Rune Knight she was! This is the very reason she wanted to be transferred into spec ops. Herding panicked people was one thing, but fighting off a mob of dark guilders and apparently not trampling an innocent kid were well beyond her abilities, it seemed.

It was a few extra moments of smooth galloping before she grew suspicious of the lack of collision. Did he move somehow at the very last second? The Magical Girl cracked open an eye, first glancing at the white, shimmer hooves smashing into the ground below. There was a distinct lack of blood, so she hadn't just zoned out. The kid had escaped? Pulling on Chester's hair, finally, the beast put on the breaks and skidded to a stop. Pigtails spun in the air while she looked backward, seeing no blue-haired body. In fact, the kid was standing before three bodies seemingly blooming red roses. Her timing seemed dead on because he was just turning toward her to ask if she was okay. Dela was dumbstruck, still caught somewhere between terror and confusion. What happened to her attackers? Why were they seemingly dying on the ground clutching roses like casket corpses? Her brows lowered, curious hues dropping to the rose swaying in his fingers. She may have been screaming hysterically just moments before, but she wasn't as stupid as she looked. As an information broker, she had to pull facts and observations together quickly, even under pressure. Did this kid come to her aid? More importantly, how had this little boy showed her up by easily taking them out with flowers, of all things?

Now that the imminent threat had been neutralized, Dela slid off Chester's back and the unicorn disappeared in a puff of glitter. "Thank you for helping me," her voice called down the street, though her stance was cautious. She slowly approached for a better look, matching the rose in his hand to the roses in the mens' chests. She seemed safe for now, but by no means was her guard down. A damsel she may be, but she was street smart. Just because someone, no matter how old they are, pops out of nowhere and saves you, it doesn't mean their motives are altruistic. This world was a messed up place with more than its share of messed up people, and this chaos was a breeding ground for all sorts of people seeking to take advantage. The Rune Knight didn't plan to become a means to an end.

He was still a child, though, so assumptions were made and ran with. Only with interaction would she learn more about this mysterious boy, so maybe the nice approach would work. "You should join the other citizens and evacuate the town. It isn't safe here, as you can plainly see. You may be strong, but it's my job to make sure you get somewhere safe before you're injured in this attack. If you need, I can take you."

Rise From The Ashes (City of Era) Empty Re: Rise From The Ashes (City of Era)

Post by Albafica Temero 10th April 2019, 3:27 pm

The woman was eagerly gesturing at him to get out of the way when her unicorn kept on galloping towards him. The blonde seemed to be shouting at the top of her lungs that he had to move, how that Chester -it didn't take a genius to realise it to be the horse's name- did not wish to stop his freerun. And then, much to Albafica’s surprise, she closed her eyes. She closed her eyes. Not a single effort to pull the animal’s hair, to try and make it bend its trajectory out of his way. Nothing. Just closing her eyes. In all honesty, he stood perplexed for a short moment, but persisted in his original intent of phasing through the incoming equine at full speed. And so he did. His eyes did not waver from his actual targets until they were dealt with, and only averted his gaze from the now dying Crimson Fang members once he was certain none of them would make it to the next minute. Much to his surprise and glee, the blonde damsel had managed to stop her mount and had gotten off its back, Albafica just in time to see how it disappeared in a puff of glitter. Magic? Quite girly, if it was… or so he had to admit. Not that it was misplaced, seeing how it fit her appearance to the T. But there was something that put a smile on his lips… something that amused him even further than it should have.

It was only a mere detail, a spec upon an unpainted canvas, but it caught his eye almost instantly. The confused look on her face. How her brow and eyes alike showed a variety of emotions, perhaps a hint of worry he dared see within them. She kept her distance, which was even more so amusing. Looks like the blonde before him wasn't as much of a helpless damsel as he thought her to be, as even when she called out to thank him did she not waver on retaining her distance. Good. At least that would keep her alive that much longer… but for how long, was up to his whim. Surely he sensed a power stronger than his radiating from her, but the azure-haired boy doubted it would be enough to resist the poisons he carried within him. Within the white rose his slender fingers now played with. He rose it softly, intaking its scent with a deep inhalation, and then gazed back up, taking a few steps closer to the blonde woman. ”The pleasure's all mine.” he replied with a soft bow of his head. The woman too closed in, her eyes curious about the rose in his hand, and the roses upon the fallen mages’ bodies. Was she linking them together, despite their now differing colors? Smart…. It sparked the need to toy with her mind a bit, play into that false sense of security… or perhaps he should just throw the cover of innocent child? Well, with the three dead men behind him “innocent” wasn't quite what it used to be, but still. He could attempt to. Yet what she said next was what gave him his answer; her bringing him to safety. Despite him having saved her just moments ago. A darkness fell across his eyes.

“Oh, but there's no need for that, fair lady…” His voice chimed like gentle bells, his words more honied than a honeycomb. “I'm exactly where I need to be.” The grin playing on his lips grew brighter, but his azure eyes did not share that smile for even a second. Instead they stared intently at the blonde, and if she were to meet his gaze would realise those eyes did not belong to one his apparent age. ”In fact, it's quite presumptuous for you to say as such when being in a rather dreary situation yourself only moments ago.” Albafica said, drawing closer as he did. He lowered the white rose and held it between his index and middle finger, his gaze meeting the flower before it rose again to look at the blonde. ”Tell me, miss… do you you truly think it to be safe to send a young boy who just took down three dark mages to a crowd of innocent people? Who knows I may be one of them, and this a ploy for me to gain access to a large group to further the destruction I need to cause?” The azure eyes within his pale face stood sharp, his words weighing heavy and rather unbefitting of his gentle voice. Yet the two seemed to be a deadly combination. ”Or perhaps I am truly in need, and that,” he gestured at the fallen men behind him. ”Was merely a lucky shot? Who knows? Well… you certainly don't, that's for sure.”

He stepped in closer, slowly closing the distance until only ten meters separated the two. He exerted confidence, cockiness, and mischievousness all at once. The look in his eyes suddenly serious, like his voice. ”You'd do well to distrust me, miss… that'd be a very smart decision of you to make. Like keeping your distance is… although,” Albafica rose the white thorned flower up and closed one eye, as if he was trying to see whether the rose fit Dela or not. ”It would seem this rose needs you to be even closer still to accentuate your beauty.” Coy words they may be, but when it came to his roses, Albafica never lied. His hand retracted and with a simple flick of his hand the rose was sent flying towards the blonde. ”Courtesy of Albafica.” His aim was her heart, yet whether she caught the rose currently heading for her at break-neck speed was entirely hers. If it were to hit its intended target Albafica would sigh almost pitying, shaking his head. If she were to catch the rose he'd give her a smile, a genuine one, for her to have overcome his expectations flawlessly.

Rise From The Ashes (City of Era) Empty Re: Rise From The Ashes (City of Era)

Post by Mythal Ragnos 12th April 2019, 3:41 pm

I've been out there and seen the things she's made

Mythal had his own issues to deal with, having just dove head first into a pack of dark wizards on the building across from them. The young Rune Knight watched the Darkness King take to the sky, clasped in wings seemingly made of a black smog. Once he had landed on the building, all that could be heard was the slight sounds of fighting and the occasional flash of magical energy. As much as he was concerned for the God Slayer, he knew he had agreed to do his own part in this mess. He turned to look at Darknight, receiving an answering nod for the orders and then watched as he scurried over to the building and began to scale it. He was about to move when he heard an agitated wuff from his side. His eyes traced over to see a wolf pup, the one that had been with Mythal the entire time before. He was pawing at the wall leading up to the roof, whining in annoyance that he couldn’t scale as easily as his master.

“Hey buddy… it’s okay. Why don’t you go find somewhere to hunker down until this is all over?” The young Rune Knight said, approaching Gren slowly and carefully. It was a terrible mistake on his part, letting his guard down to look after the pup. Even as he turned his gaze fully to the hound, there was a trio of dark wizards rounding the corner towards him. They picked up their pace when they saw he was distracted, their weapons up and ready to strike upon the man. Gren sniffed and spun away from the wall, turning to see the three pairs of feet rushing the Rune Knight from between his legs. With another wuff, this one far more determined, he rushed forward and dashed between the Rune Knight’s legs. As he struggled to understand what was going on, he turned to follow the hound’s path… only to find the three dark wizards practically upon him. But his shock was multiplied when a beam of dark energy shot out from the ground just before him, his eyes just barely catching the inkling of Gren as he released the geyser of magic energy from his gut. The three dark wizards didn’t stand a chance -- all three of them were lifted from their feet and sent flying backwards, their weapons spinning and embedding on the walls and through the windows around them.

The young Rune Knight stuttered, his breath and words trying to form but finding no firm hold. His eyes trailed down to the hound, who was panting with a goofy, lopsided grin on his face. Finally an amazed chuckle came out from his mouth as he collected himself. “Alright, never mind. How about you come with me?” He asked. Gren cocked his head to the side, clearly trying to understand what the young man was saying. But as the Rune Knight headed to follow the path that Darknight was trailing, the wolf wuffed and started to follow. He glanced upwards at the roof where Mythal was and then with a snort, turned and raced towards the wall. Before the Rune Knight could even reach out or speak, the dog leapt and then released another blast of magic energy while looking down. The tiny pup was skyrocketed -- or perhaps leapfrogged -- into the air and disappeared over the lip of the building, having scaled the structure in a matter of seconds.

“Huh…” The Knight said softly before turning and taking off down the path. He simply didn’t have time to play around; he would have to trust the hound and the Darkness King could hold their own against whatever was up there. It took him a minute or so but before long he could hear the sound of battle up on the roof. And he could see the group of civilians that were being evacuated, their moving mass like an ocean of heads and shoulders. But just as he released a sigh of relief, his blood froze up from the sight of several dark wizards coming out from the opposing buildings and lining up shots. He picked up his speed, bringing his held sword to the side and in an attack position. “Sharpen,” he muttered softly, his magical essence flowing through his lips and onto his sword. The literal word appeared on the metal of the weapon, rivulets of blue magic running through the length of the weapon. The sharp side released a sharp sound, not unlike the ringing of metal against a belt. The blade itself already looked more dangerous, the glimmer of fires and the sun practically making the metal glow. But that wasn’t enough for the young Rune Knight. “Ignite,” he followed up with another spell, the word pasting itself to the sword’s flat side. Flames surged to life and wrapped around the weapon, engulfing it from tip to guard and howling in a hungry inferno.

The dark wizards had almost no chance to prepare as he came up behind them. His blade swung left and right, aiming for major muscle fibers to disarm limbs from body. Their pained cries caused the moving group of civilians to scream in fear and begin to shift even more erratically. As the young Rune Knight twisted his weapon around to cut down the last dark wizards, he called out to the people. “Don’t panic! Stay together and keep moving towards the city limits!” He called out, his voice about as steady as it could possibly be given the situation. His eye scoured the rooftop looking for Darknight, spotting the man interweaving in a battle of steel with several dark wizards. But it was the figure behind Sigurd that caused the Rune Knight to slam his heels into the ground. “Darknight! Watch out!”

Whether the wizard-turned-superhero reacted to the Rune Knight’s words would provide very different, albeit painful outcomes. If he was able to hear the words and instinctively move out of the way, he would most likely be surprised by the large warhammer that swung through the air right where he had been only a moment ago, the heavy and flat end of it oozing a thick purple mass. If he hadn’t quite had the time to duck out of the way, Darknight would find himself hit hard by the hammer and sent sprawling over the rooftop. He would also feel his muscles weaken, the energy from them seemingly flowing up towards his back and specifically to the point of contact.

“Well looky what we got here,” a deep, feminine voice hissed out towards him. Upon looking at her, Darknight would find himself standing up against one giant of a woman -- a female that was easily eight feet tall. She was far more manly than several of the other dark wizards around, with sculted abdominals that were out in show below a fairly gnarled leather croptop. Her hair was frayed and wirey, like she had just rolled out of bed and that bed was a haypile next to the pigsty. She was dressed like a wild woman, with carved leather clothing and boots wrapped in wool. But the warhammer she possessed was of the highest caliber -- clean and pure  steel from top to bottom, it was easily the height of Sigurd and perhaps the weight as well. The bulbous end was the size of an anvil and similarly shaped as well, with a sharp spike on the back end of it. It had been a good thing she’d hit him with the flat end.

She glanced between Darknight and his two summons, unamused at their looks. “Bunch of freaky looking fairies you got there,” she said, snickering. “Tell me, do they melt?” She spun the hammer around so it was up near her face. Her lips moved in a circle, her cheeks puffing slightly, before she spat a purple loogie right onto the end of the hammer. The substance spread over the end of it and began to bubble and sizzle, promising absolutely nothing nice.

Meanwhile, on the other buildings, Mythal had been more than surprised by the sudden appearance of Gren. He had been mid-dodge of a sword swipe when he saw the pup come sailing over the edge of the building, howling in excitement. He bounced off one of the dark wizard’s heads, causing him to stumble forward enough that Gren was able to jump down without injury. As the dark wizard righted himself, he was suddenly met with a blast of dark energy that sent him flying over the edge of the building. “As entertainin’ as that was,” Mythal said as he swung his fist forward and knocked a dark wizard literally out of his boots. “Don’t go flyin’ anymore, got it?”

Gren wuffed with a tone that seemed to promise no such thing. The Darkness King rolled his eyes just as he managed to send the last man smashed onto the rooftop, denting the shingles with a permanent crater. His gaze lingered on the ground for only a moment longer before he spotted yet another pack of dark wizards across the gap, racing along more rooftops. “Why can’t they just stay on the ground…?” the God Slayer grumbled as he ran over to Gren and picked him up. With a grunt, he leapt the gap and practically tackled the wizard leading the pack, knocking him over the edge and to the ground below. The Star Wolf leapt out from Mythal’s arms and onto the closest wizard, teeth out and ready to bite and tear into the man.

The God Slayer joined the fight but out of the corner of his eye, he spotted something -- or rather, someones -- on the street below. What looked like an adult blonde woman and a child were standing among the bodies of several dark wizards. Was she protecting the kid or something? “‘Ey!” He called out, as he dipped to the side to avoid a blast of ice magic. “You two better get outta here. It ain’t safe!”

Rise From The Ashes (City of Era) Empty Re: Rise From The Ashes (City of Era)

Post by Dela 27th April 2019, 4:52 am

Okay, so the nice approach made it more complicated.

What a weird freakin' kid. Or...was it really a kid? She may look the part of an airhead blonde, especially in her sparkly magical girl getup, but she was anything but. While certainly no genius, she was experienced enough to pick up his style of speaking and his choice of words as traits no average child would have. Honestly, nothing about this little guy seemed childish other than his appearance. Officially confirming that he had taken out the thugs that chased her, her consideration of him was rapidly galloping back toward suspicion and caution. He was right. Taking him to safety with a bunch of helpless citizens no longer seemed like the right choice, so she wouldn't be doing that. In fact, she was revisiting her initial jaded thoughts of his motives not being altruistic in the slightest. Saving her life from the enemy was one thing, but that didn't mean he wasn't an enemy himself.

See? This is why she didn't do combat other than on screen with a controller in her hand. The real stuff wasn't her forte in the slightest. There wasn't enough information for her to make sound judgement and she was left puzzling over the complex scenarios a child with an adult brain was purring at her. Clearly he was a mage, and that gorgeous flower he held in his fingers was far more dangerous than it looked. "But if you were one of them, why would you kill them?" she inquired, but it was more of a stall and a feigning of ignorance than an actual question. She wanted to make it seem that she trying to reason it out, but the truth was already leering at her like a predator over its prey. Despite all her street smarts, she wasn't immune to the horrifying pressure of feeling directly in peril. It was one thing to be running around, reacting to danger in a general sense around her but still having the option and the hope of escape, but now she was staring something sinister face-to-face. He felt dark. She'd been in a dark guild before joining the Rune Knights. Dela knew full well most dark mages had no allegiances other than to themselves. What could be gained from offing your own guild mates during a large scale attack on the most influential town in Fiore baffled her, but she couldn't argue that dark mages needed much of a reason to fight and kill amongst their own kind. "It seemed like you saved me, kid. Why would you waste the effort if you were just going to turn on me?"

Even as she spoke, she knew her stall was wearing thin and she had nothing to show for it. Objectively, it seemed so stupid to be terrified of a child, but her knees were knocking anyway. Funny, now she'd much rather be screeching on the back of Chester, running from those thugs from earlier than shriveling under this child's gaze with little hope of escape. Her gloved hand squeezed the handle of her staff and she mourned the fact that blasting him in the face with glitter would probably not save her skin.

A new voice sounded from above. Ah, the smallest glimmer of hope! At first she anticipated more Crimson Fang members, but it seemed like the man was on the city's side. But hey, what did she know? After what her apparent savior just said about her needing to distrust him, Dela wasn't sure about anything. "No crap it ain't safe!" she quipped back moodily, finding all of this bullcrap way above her pay grade and energy levels. Would this man be able to actually save her? Or was he too busy fighting?

As it turned out, even if the man had dealt with his foes and came to her aid, he'd have been too late. The reluctant, spectacularly lazy magical girl knew where this was going, yet she was still unable to move. He was taunting her, using cunning speech to say one thing and mean another. She knew that rose wasn't meant to be a gift she could put in a vase. In cruel slow motion, her oceanic hues watched him make that slick flick of the wrist. An elegant movement for a delicate flower from a pretty young thing filled with ugly intentions.

It struck true, just as the boy knew it would in the end. Dela encountered a moment of statuesque peace, simply holding the bloom as if to admire it. At first it might have even appeared like she caught it, but upon closer look it was obviously that the stem was sticking far into her chest. How could something so pretty hurt so much? All she could manage was a small gasp, looking from the white bloom that gradually turned from snow to ichor toward the charming but wicked little boy. "Alba...fica..." she struggled out his name, falling backward with a heavy thud as her strength was robbed from her, feeding the rose in her chest.

She could really go for a milkshake right now. The way she would suck on the straw and consume the frozen dairy delight would probably be much like what the thorny stem was doing to her right now. The rose was slurping her up like a tasty milkshake. What flavor would she be, though? In reality, obviously she was blood flavored...or rather, iron flavored. Iron flavor wasn't pleasant to think about, though. Maybe she'd be strawberry. Pink was a nice color, and sorta like blood if you mixed it with milk. Fruit flavors in milk had never been her favorite, though, so at least as she died she could imagine herself as the best milkshake flavor. Chocolate.

Albafica. What a weird name. She committed it to memory, filing it away in her bear-trap mind for later. As she laid there, staring up at the sky and frankly enjoying her excuse to do nothing, she imagined her thoughts as pieces of paper. Albafica's face was drawn onto a pristine sheet along with his name, followed by a note. Demonic name, her mind wrote, then scribbled black horns on the annoyingly charming kid's head. No, no, brain, don't do that! She wanted to be able to recognize him if she ever saw him again. What if next time she waved him off because he lacked horns! Her mind didn't obey, scribbling a goatee and pitchfork as well. Great. Now the devil's name was Albafica, and she'd probably never recognize this little twerp later. Why did she want to recognize him? To sic someone much stronger than her on him, of course. As if she would put herself out for something as petty as revenge. There were plenty of fighters in the world that would love to rise to the challenge so she could sit back and play Lacribeasties safely in her room.

Ugh, greedy little plant, take it easy! Her body tensed, starting to go into shock from blood loss. The buildings framing her vision spun, making her dizzy and nauseas. Quit! Or else the milkshake is coming back up! Oh wait, she hadn't had one...just thought about it. All the white petals were nearly gone. The noises of battle were gone, blotted out by the frantic whooshing in her ears. Dying sucked. The last time it'd been the bubonic plague, though...so this was an improvement over that. The worst part was always the cold fingers of death that played her bones like a crypt xylophone. It was way worst than laying in the snow in winter. At least with exposure it was easy to remember the warmth of a fire and it was within hope that soon rescue would come and bring warmth once more. Death and her molesty grabby hands made it seem like there was never warmth to begin with. What a witch.

"G-God..I wish...Chester had stomped you..." she groaned, growing both pissed and mouthy with each second closer to death. "You...your m-mom's....a....hoe...."

Dela's eyes slid shut after that and the darkness took her.

If only that was the end. For just a moment after her her chest deflated for the last time, the crystal in her staff darkened and then the whole staff disappeared. Her consciousness, soul, whatever was transported to...somewhere. Dela had yet to figure out where the place was. Was it a death dream? Were there such things as death dreams? Or was it just a realm. A purgatory. It wasn't like she could ask anyone, since the only people that had to endure this fever dream was herself and the countless poor souls that had been swindled into making this contract. It was a dark and foggy place. It felt like a creepy forest from a horror film, except the black forms that made up the trees were former magical girl victims of the crystal. Victims of the man who conned them stood everywhere, most of them calcified into mangled, stretched nightmares of their former selves. Thunder rumbled loud enough to shake the ground. With a heavy sigh, Dela headed off to the left for a particular shadow. This one wasn't like the rest, though it barely moved other than the soft rhythm of breath. The blonde plopped down at the base and leaned back, tired and jonesing for a nap. The shadow sighed deeply, but said nothing.

    "Hey, sis."

"Again?" the 'tree' asked, though as lightning struck nearby and dissolved one of the older trees, the flashes lit the face of a girl that favored Dela. Her hair was a slightly paler blonde and meticulously braided and coiled on the back of her head. Her style of dress was fastidious and proper, perfect except for the rips in the white fabric at the arms. There was a reason this form looked more like a pole than a tree. The others had arms and legs to simulate branches. Her sister lacked both arms entirely.

"Yeah, kid got me with a killer rose," the deceased girl grumbled, the rainbow haze around her body saving her from the tendrils of darkness that rose from the ground like blades of grass. Occasionally one would poke through the protective aura, leaving black marks on her flesh. "You really need to clean up this place. Put in a milkshake shoppe."

"I'll get right on that..." deadpan words floated back to Dela's ears, even through the thunder claps. The eyeroll was audible, but it wasn't without knowing warmth. And a little bit of wistfulness.

As usual, the lazy girl picked up on the tone and grew more serious. "I promise I'll figure out a way to break it. I'll fix it, sis. Then you can come home."

If she'd had arms, her sister would have embraced her. "You idiot. Fixing it would have been listening to me and not making the contract at the start. I warned you. Just save yourself, Millie. I have to pay for my mistakes, but you don't have to. If you never use this power again and hide somewhere safe, you can live a normal life and this will end with you."

"Oh, it'll end with me alright," Dela simmered, angry brows narrowing her glowing eyes. "Eventually I'll find a lead. Once I figure out how to break the curse and get you out, I'm going after him. He's the only person in the whole world worth my time and effort, and I'd starve and deprive myself of sleep just to turn him into a windsock. Wait, no...not a windsock. He'd be dead for that. Maybe I'd rip out his vocal cords and turn him into a practice dummy for the School of Swordsmanship for the Blind, but I'd hide nearby and heal him every so often to keep him alive for months before I finally rid this world of him..."

"Good to see you're actually motivated for a change," her sister snorted.

"It'll be okay... just this once."

Rise From The Ashes (City of Era) Empty Re: Rise From The Ashes (City of Era)

Post by Albafica Temero 25th June 2019, 9:32 am

Stalling. Oh, was she stalling the inevitable. Nice try, a futile one, but still; nice try. It didn't stop the young boy's actions from happening however, but he did take his time hearing her out. Hearing her babble about questions she most-likely already knew the answer to, or perhaps, feared. Albafica decided to humour her and play along, answering every of her questions, be they serious or retorical in nature. If only just to mess with her mind even more, as he had noticed his previous attempts had taken effect. In fact she proved to be a most amusing toy to play with. Mental games and all, he wasn't one for the other type of games. First question; if he was one of them, why would he kill them? It made him chuckle. "Frankly, they are mere pawns towards furthering my goals. If they have no use, they become bait. A distraction for the enemy so the strong may achieve their goals…. we are all bait, in the end. They perhaps were not my bait, but then again, they were still useless to me regardless. Thus they have been disposed of." he stated dryly, a rather neutral expression upon his face, as if this was the most natural thing to do in the world.

Second question on the list; what had been the use of saving her if he was to turn on her? Why waste the effort? Well, she did have a point there. It was in fact a wasted effort, but that was just him. He did as he pleased, and when his old and new habits collided that caused quite the paradoxal or contradicting situations. This one in particular, was as such. "I was never on your side to begin with, so I can't quite turn on you that way, miss." A breeze blew past them, making his long azure hair cover his face. He flicked it back with a single move of his head. "I suppose you were just worth the effort." he said with a devious smile. But his next thought was cut short by a loud voice calling them out from above. He stared up to see a figure of a man floating in the sky. The aura he gave off was troubling, but he disregarded it for now; his focus was the girl, and not the onlooker. He looked amused for a split second at the blonde's reply. A funny one, that girl was. A beauty too. But neither of those would aid at saving her life.

Yet he had to admit it, the woman had been just as beautiful in those five minutes he'd made her acquantaince as she was during her passing to the other side. Death, like the now crimson-turned rose in her chest, became her. Her parting words however… not so much. Said words had been curious to him, to say the least. Uncommon. And what was this "hoe" she was referring to? Was it a title? Did she know who his mother was? But how? Or was this just a mere foreign manner of speech he didn't comprehend the meaning of? He couldn't quite ask the girl for answers now he'd let her final breath slip her body, and for a single moment it actually bothered him that he'd killed her so quickly. Twas perhaps an act of stupidity upon his second thought, but it wasn't that he could revive her altogether… now if only she'd been part of Nightmare, he could've tried to fix things. Little did he know about the woman and her origins.

He knew she was dead, yet he only so carefully moved towards her resting body to inspect it further. How peaceful she appeared, and, well… dead. He summoned another rose to his hand, peerless white, and carefully laid it upon her motionless chest. White did suit her better than crimson red, after all. When he rose back up, he looked up into the sky, his voice resonating loudly. "Don't you worry, stranger, she's "safe" now." Albafica directed at the man, a deviant smile playing upon his lips. Something inside him told him no, but he'd tasted blood today. It was stronger than himself to provoke yet another opponent with the intent to kill; something he did not care to hide. The killing intent roamed freely, eagerly, well within the sky-bound man's reach. Little did the young child know that doing so would become his undoing, and so much more.

Rise From The Ashes (City of Era) Empty Re: Rise From The Ashes (City of Era)

Post by Mythal Ragnos 6th August 2019, 9:33 pm

I've been out there and seen the things she's made

He’d attempted to warn him. He’d seen the massive shadow that loomed over Darknight, threatening to launch an attack on him while he was distracted. But that didn’t stop the warhammer from flying in and slamming into the hero’s side, his body bending at a most atrocious angle for only a moment before he was sent sprawling over the ground like a tumbleweed in the wind. The once hopeful Darknight slammed into the edge of the rooftop with a sickening thud, his body pressed up against the surface before collapsing down onto the ground. The two beings that he had summoned lost their connection to their source and quickly shriveled up, disappearing into the air like fluttering beads of dust.

The barbarian woman chortled as she stomped over to the unconscious superhero, her worn and yellowed teeth oozing with the same purple liquid that had made her attack so palpable. As her warhammer sizzled in her hand, she lifted a single foot just enough to push the man onto his back. He was surely out of it, not responding at all to the way that she was moving him with her foot. Seeing that his day in the fight was over, she snorted in annoyance. “Pity. I was hoping for more,” she remarked as she brought her other hand around and took hold of her weapon with both hands. She brought it up over her head, turning it about so that the sharp end was pointed downwards and directly for Sigurd. No point in melting him; it was easier to just end his pitiful life there and then.

But before she could unleash the hammer’s deathly blow, the roar of “Detonate” echoed through the blazing flames of the city. A stream of magical fire, as thin as a wire, shot out from the end of a sword and slammed into the woman’s back, exploding on impact. She grunted and staggered forward, accidentally tripping over the edge of the rooftop and stumbling down over it. The sword of the Rune Knight hissed out a trail of smoke as his spell dissipated. He swung it to the side to clear away the remnants of the arcane ability and raced over to Darknight to check on him. “Sir, are you okay?” He asked the masked man, hoping to rile some kind of answer. When none came, he carefully reached over to try and get a reading on the man’s pulse. It was there – he was alive!

That was something at least. “We need to get you out of here before…” As he was saying it, he felt the roof underneath him begin to shift. The mortar holding the bricks together was loosening and the edge of the ceiling was beginning to crumble in. It was only a moment later that the entire area that he and Sigurd were on fell from its rooted spot and fell down towards the ground. The Rune Knight grabbed for Darknight and pulled his limp body to him, turning himself towards the rushing ground. When they hit, his armor took the brunt of the impact but it still practically knocked the wind from him. His legs rolled over his ass and he slid over the street, the sound of metal screeching over the pavement. Sigurd rolled over the road next to him, mostly undamaged after the Rune Knight had taken most of the impact.

As they both came to a stop, the young Knight lifted his head up towards the building they had fallen from. There, hanging from her embedded warhammer, was the barbaric woman. She had stumbled over the edge of the structure but had managed to swing her weapon around and plant herself against the wall. From there, she must have used her acidic magic to melt through the building to make them follow after her. He had to admit; he didn’t expect her to be that quick thinking. His eyes scoured the ground for his sword, finding it resting just near Sigurd’s shoulder. He yanked it up quickly and pushed himself to his feet, taking a fighting stance.

“Ho ho, so you want to take the wimpy man’s place?” She asked, grinning from ear to ear.

“In the name of the Rune Knights of Era, I demand you come down from that building, lay down your weapon and surrender,” the Knight responded, trying to reengage a more politic approach. They would certainly need people telling them who was responsible after they stopped the invasion and if he could bring in this woman, it would be all the better.

His words made her laugh even harder, as she released the warhammer with one hand to pat her stomach. “You’re a funny one. Alright, Mr. Knight. I will come down and lay my weapon down,” she said with a fading snicker. For a moment, the Rune Knight almost believed her – until she pushed herself off the building with force, practically leaping like a wild ape from a branch. She spun the hammer over her head as she descended and then brought it over and down, aiming to plant the anvil head onto the Rune Knight’s own top and flatten him like a pancake. He managed to leap back in time to dodge it, the massive weapon’s head shattering the ground where he had stood. The earth beneath him shifted as well from the impact, causing him to stumble slightly as he attempted to stay on his feet. His eyes shot over to Sigurd, only feet away from the woman’s leg. If she made a move towards him, he would have to react in time to save him once more.

But it seemed Darknight was completely forgotten to the giant. Her attention was fully focused on the Rune Knight and she turned to square up with him, her back fully to the unconscious superhero. With that out of mind, if only slightly, the Knight got back into position and leveled his sword with her. “If you do not surrender now, I will be forced to consider you a threat.”

The giantess chuckled once more. “Boy, I am so much more than that.” And with that final comment, she charge at him, her hammer embraced with both hands.

Mythal, on the other hand, had the unfortunate luck of witnessing a truly terrible act firsthand. He’d noticed the pair, the boy and the teenage girl, huddled near the edge of the street. Somehow they had managed to fight off the dark wizards, as there were several bodies lying around them. He honestly assumed that it had been the girl that had used some kind of magic to fight them off and was taking a quick moment of reprieve. He’d called out to them, telling them to run now while they had the chance. He’d turned back to his own situation enough to land a few hard punches and knock down a few wizards, while several more started to scramble away.

But as his eyes flicked back to the duo, he was surprised to see that the girl was… slumping. Something was sticking out of her and as he focused his gaze on it, he could barely make out its design. A… flower of some kind? It was embedded into her and clearly was the source of her predicament. But before he could speak or say anything, another dark wizard had made a wild dive at him in an attempt to tackle him off the building. Mythal had nearly gone over but his wings held him in the air and the poor soul that had attempted the hail mary couldn’t quite grip the Darkness King’s feet and fell to the ground below.

But the God Slayer’s vision was solely on the scene on the street below. The woman went completely limp on the ground, laying out across the street like the other bodies that surrounded them. He watched in awestruck horror as the boy brought forth another rose, a flower of his own creation, and laid it gently on her chest, like a griever might at her funeral. His blood started to boil as the boy looked skyward to him, calling out to him and assuring Mythal that the woman was “safe” now. And that smile that followed it – even from this vantage, the Darkness King knew the smile of one delighting in the bloodletting. He’d seen it countless times before now, in so many different psychopaths looking to cause pain and death.

This is what this dark guild had brought with them. Child soldiers, their teeth cut upon slaying innocent people who were just trying to live their lives. They weren’t just invading – they were testing out their new underage warriors. Children that had been kidnapped, brainwashed and turned to charge at a target with wild abandon. It would be one thing if he saw shock or horror on the child’s face; murder was unforgivable but it wasn’t going to damn someone who realized too late they weren’t a fan of it. But he could see it; the joy this boy took in taking the girl’s life. The confidence he had in its aftermath, his words practically taunting Mythal. The world seemed to slow down around the Darkness King for a brief moment as he hovered in the air, like a cursed angel on high.

But that moment was gone as quickly as it came. Every ounce of Mythal’s magic surged through him with such strength and abandon that he practically lost himself in it. His wings grew larger, his aura swallowed him up in pure, unbreeching darkness. He zipped down towards the ground and in front of the boy with such speed, it was almost as if he had reanimated before him. At that moment, he didn’t care if this boy was still a child. He didn’t care that there could be an opportunity to turn him away from this life, that he could make him repent for his actions. This boy had killed and had taken joy in it. There was no softness in Mythal to abide that. There was simply the punishment.

He swung his arm forward with such force, the building next to them peeled from the magical pressure. When and if it connected into the boy’s stomach, there would be a thunderous boom followed immediately by a shockwave that would incinerate any remaining glass in the immediate area. But the boy wouldn’t feel this, as the strength behind the punch would have lifted him from his feet and sent him skyward. One might have thought that the child had been thrown like a ball during a sports activity, with the height and speed he would go out of the city. Mythal didn’t think about whether he would live or die upon finally coming back down to the Earth. He just wanted to make him pay. He would make them all pay.

Gren’s barks from the rooftop where he had left pulled him out of the dark, his magic energy fading enough to reveal his form once more. His vision cleared and he let out a shuddering gasp as his anger began to cool, if only a little. He glanced back at the Star Wolf, running circles on the edge of the roof as it tried to look for a means to get down. Before the Darkness King could go up to retrieve him, the hound jumped, turning head over stomach as he fell. Another burp of dark magic erupted from his mouth and slowed him to a stop right before he hit the pavement, turning him about and allowing him to land evenly on the surface. Pleased with himself, Gren ran over to Mythal, tongue lolling out of his mouth. His amusement lifted as he bent his head down and sniffed at Dela’s body, whining softly.

“I know,” Mythal said softly, shaking his head. He didn’t need clarification that the woman was dead but even the finality of it still bothered him. He bent down and lifted her up carefully into his arms. She didn’t deserve to lie amongst the dead bodies of dark wizards. He rounded the corner and found himself at a four way intersection of streets, each one leading in different directions. “Which one leads to the civilians…?” He asked to the air around him.

Before he could choose a path, a building on the south side exploded, causing the entire area to rumble. Mythal spun around in time to see a smaller figure in the smoke running towards him, followed immediately by a much larger one. The young Rune Knight emerged from the end of the cloud, beaten and bruised from his fight. The giantess was right behind him, roaring as she charge after her retreating foe. She looked beaten as well but her rage was so great that even Mythal could feel it from here.

The young Knight spotted Mythal and then noticed the body he was carrying. He slammed his heels into the ground, not wanting to lead the giant woman right into the God Slayer and the innocent he had. But just as he did, the giantess cocked her arm back and let fly her warhammer like a javelin. It slammed into the young Knight, bending his body backwards over its form as he let out a roar of pain. He soared through the air and crashed into the ground, the warhammer clattering to the ground next to him. His sword left his hand as he slid along the surface, the hard material battering his face even more. The acid that had been on the head of the hammer now coated the back of his armor, oozing into the metal and towards his flesh beneath.

He wound up on his back as he came to the conclusion of his roll but the giant woman had leapt into the air, now quickly descending down towards him. The young Knight attempted to reach for his sword with his left hand but was stopped when her foot came down, full force, on his forearm. The sickening crunch of his arm shattering brought forth another cry of agony from him as the limb screamed in agony. His other arm instinctively went to try and free himself from the foot, slamming his fist against the large and heavy object. The woman’s cackle echoed in his pain-filled ears.

“Another wimp,” she spat down at him, pressing her heel down onto his arm harder. Her other foot raised and came down to kick the Knight in the stomach, driving the wind out of him and leaving him a gasping mess. The giantess inhaled sharply, the wet sound of her snorting up more mucus grating to the ears. Then she spat the acidic glob down right on the young Knight’s exposed bicep. The flesh-eating substance went to work immediately, gnawing through his skin and down into muscle, causing him to scream in utter pain. The giantess was preparing another spitball when Mythal came rushing in, his shoulder leading the charge as he threw himself against the woman. Even with all his strength, it only managed to push her a few inches back, dragging the young Knight with her. Infuriated, she reared her head up and brought her fists forward to punch at the Darkness King. His hands caught the attacks, his fingers digging into her knuckles. She was strong; strong enough that Mythal couldn’t fully push her back.

But the slide had pushed the Knight closer to his sword. He spotted it, the long weapon resting just within reach of his left hand. But that entire limb was useless. Thinking quickly and through unbelievable amounts of pain, he jerked himself up and stretched over his pinned arm to grab ahold of the handle. As he fell back, he slashed the weapon across the woman’s abdomen, opening a deep gash though not as deep as it should have been. Then he thrust the weapon up and into her abs, plunging the steel deep enough that only the handle stuck out from her flesh. The pain caused her to howl in agony, leaving an opening for Mythal to free one hand and throw a punch at her, knocking her back and finally away from the two of them.

The giantess growled between clenched teeth and glanced down at the sword stuck in her abdomen. She let out a small chuckle as she looked back up at the two of them. “Barely a scratch,” she remarked.

The young Knight pushed himself up just enough to extend his right arm towards the sword. The magical connection sparked as he reached for it, causing the weapon to glow within her stomach. She glanced down at it quickly and then up at him, realizing what he had done. “Detonate,” he said simply as he cast his spell. There was no line of fire this time; simply a magnificent explosion that swallowed up the woman’s top half. Any cry or scream she made was drowned out in the sound of the explosion, while Mythal covered his eyes from the sudden brightness of it. A moment later and all that was left was a fiery, smoke filled crater where she had once stood.

With the giantess clearly out of the fight, the Darkness King bent down to check on the Knight. “What happened? I thought you were helping with the civilians,” he remarked.

“Darknight and I were fighting off the dark wizards when… that bitch attacked him. I went to intervene. I felt it was better to keep her away from the townspeople for as long as I could,” the Knight said softly, gasping and wincing from pain. The acid had stopped its digestion of his arm but the damage was considerable. Mythal wasn’t a medic but he knew it wasn’t good.

“You did a good job,” the God Slayer said as he lifted the man up carefully. “I don’t know how safe this area is.”

“How’s the girl?” The Knight asked, turning slightly to try and get a look of her. Mythal had set Dela’s body down near the corner of the street, resting her gently against the side of a building.

Mythal shook his head. “She’s gone. But I wanted to take her away from bein’ another corpse among dark wizards.”

“Too many innocents dying,” the man said softly, the pain starting to overwhelm him. With his adrenaline starting to fade, the darkness of unconsciousness was quickly settling in. “What’s the plan next, sir?”

“You’ve done enough…” Mythal started, his brow furrowing. “You know, I don’t think I ever got yer name.”

The man scoffed, an odd mixture of a cough and a laugh. “Dakvid. Corporal Dakvid Bascom.”

The Darkness King patted him on the shoulder, even as he felt the man pass out. “Rest, Bascom.” He glanced over at Dela’s form and then Dakvid’s, shaking his head.

    Now what?

Rise From The Ashes (City of Era) Empty Re: Rise From The Ashes (City of Era)

Post by Albafica Temero 28th August 2019, 8:24 am

It crashed into him like a tsunami would the city line; fear. Pure, concentrated unbridled fear. It's source? The man he'd just taunted. As if time had slowed down around them, he stared at the man, the smile on his face frozen in place as this man unleashed a pressure far beyond his wildest dreams. It was then the azure-haired child knew what exactly he was gazing upon; the fury of an angel of death. The left hand of god, as some would call it; the bringer of end times. His end times. Albafica blinked, and in that shortest of timeframes the man had appeared before him, his magic rippling the very fabric of space around him. All Albafica could do was look, paralyzed in a kind of fear he now felt for the second time in his short life. A power that could easily swallow him whole. One he could not fight, but respected among all else. In that instant Albafica realised how wrong he'd been. But it was too late.

The man's fist connected with a thunderous boom, as if lightning itself had just crashed down upon him. And if Albafica had to be honest, that was exactly how it felt. Aside from the powerful fist swiftly digging deeper into his abdomen, the pure amount of foreign magical power now surging through his body felt even worse. He felt his ribs cave in, bending to the fist's every whim, while his flesh was being torn from both the in-and outside of his body, as if thousands upon thousands of needles were tearing away at the young boy's body. The pain was excruciating, to say the least, but he did not scream. In that short moment that the punch connected, his face wasn't contorted in an expression of pain, but instead shock. A realisation that's struck too late for him to grasp it. And then, the impact sent him flying. Higher. Faster. At some point Albafica thought he'd breached the barrier of sound itself. But he couldn't quite focus on that. The pain was now coursing through his body at an alarming rate, booming through his body; everything ached. The bones in his torso were pulverized, and one didn't need to be a medical genius to realise how badly his intestines were damaged. Honestly, he was surprised that his heart was still beating in this very moment. But it wouldn't last long; he could already feel how life was slipping from his grasp.

He cursed softly as he felt his body curving down, ready to descend once more. The scenery had changed… did that guy really punch him into the next town? He struck like a meteor, slamming through the concrete wall of the town's church. Had he not been dead before this would've most definitely killed him. But no. Even then, Albafica's broken body still clung unto life. That small, little spark of hope. Whatever hadn't been broken yet now was, and the pain overcoming his body was so overwhelming that he couldn't even be aware of it anymore. Everything around him was dull; he could hear the screaming. The ruckus of people gathering around him. Vague silhouettes bending over him. God, he probably looked terrible after this crash landing. He wanted to curse, but all he could hear was a guttural sound echoing within him. Then, both the light and the pain faded away. His body, as people would later on tell, disintegrated into a cloud of golden particles, and disappeared fully moments after.

He broke through the crimson surface, desperately gasping for breath. His eyes were blurred, trying to readjust to the dim lights that engulfed the blood pools of decayed Nightmare guild. His heart beating a mile a minute. As he gained his composure anew and started to control his breathing, Albafica sunk back down, floating around the pool on his back. His eyes were pinned upon the ceiling as he progressed the events that'd just unfolded before his death. How wrong had he been, to think that what he was looking for all this time could be found there too. A being holding power so strong that even the world itself would tremble before it… on the light side of the spectrum, at that. He sighed. So that was the path fate wished for him to thread? To find this man anew… convince him. It wasn't that being a dark mage suited him, but Albafica wasn't used to basking in the light. But now, for his own goals, he would leave the shadows for good. He'd made up his mind.
