Public Come Down to the Black Sea

Post by Silverinks 17th March 2018, 5:20 pm

The storm outside the secluded cave wasn't going to let up anytime soon that much was obvious. Not that it was much better within the heart of the cave as every misguided gust of snow and wind threatened to extinguish the almost pitifully sized flame attempting to take shape in the fire. The single occupant of the cave had half the mind to crawl inside the still warm corpse of her prey..but the thought of ruining her clothes made her grimace. A silk cloak curled about the woman's body as a soft sigh escaped her. The massive corpse beside her was a wolf-like beast with the irritating talent of spewing ice shard from it's maw..it almost wasn't worth the frostbite..but Areem managed to bring down the beast. It's fur would make a lovely coat and if she could manage to unlock the beast's icy talent through careful dissection..well it's a possible weapon in the making.

You see, Areem was a hunter..of all sorts of prey..something that driven her since her 'childhood'. Feathered, furred or scaled..any new beast was just a chance to find out more about this strange world. Few would have guessed that was the quiet woman's profession..but it was the truth. Even fewer souls saw her in action..as it was a private affair and Areem wasn't one to be watched like some show. Unconsciously her fingertips traced the scarred flesh about her wrists and her expression hardened until a squeaking sound made her return to reality. The knife's wooden handle in her other hand was dangerously close to snapping..it was one of her better craving knives. A hiss escaped her as she couldn't afford to be so carelessly..soon the rhythmic process of skinning the large beast soothed the violence in her mind..even as the blood and gore began coating to her pale hands..it was a task she was happy to do.

It wasn't man-made weaponry that had brought down the beast, as it's killing blow had been having it's internal guts pulled from it's body after a crude gash had been sliced on it's stomach. Disembowelment was choice of tactics by many scavengers as it kept the prey alive just long enough for choice bits to be collected..or behaviors observed in Areem's case. The beast had snarled at it's hunter, but howled in pain at each futile twitch as Areem had written down her experience and had begun a few crude sketches of the beast's visible organs. At the present, the most interesting part of this dissection has been the beast's tongue as it was rough like a feline's..but one could sense the magic beneath it. This was the source of it's icy breath. Fascinating..

Soon the pitiful fire began to grow as Areem silently worked over the corpse. Ebony hair fell to her waist as she became captivated with her work, never minding the gore that was staining the snow-white cloak about her figure. This was her passion and she knew it ever since she had won her first prize from her first hunt..a make-shift headdress of silk and two curled horns. That was enough to catch a stranger's eye as she walked through a town here and there..it didn't stop the laughter when she told them of her profession. A woman of her size..impossible. If only it didn't cause a hidden smile come to her lips..a woman was a kind word for her..it took a monster to bring down other monsters.

"Ah! What's with this sudden storm?" the boy would complain, hugging his chest and rubbing each arm persistently as the snow would peck his cheeks and icy winds would nip them. Everything had gone according to Ahote's daily routine up until the sudden snowstorm had come about. Him strolling about the snow covered mountains, visiting the melancholy settlement at the foot of the landmark, thinking. It had all gone accordingly, but it seemed as if nature had other things in mind.

Ahote would trudge through the thick blanket of fresh snow, moving further up the mountain with each short stride. Although he had originally intended on walking down to the settlement, he figured it would take longer to arrive at his destination than it would if he had went home instead. His fleshed fingers stinging with chilling pains and the path ahead blurred with an overcast of storm clouds and falling snow, the boy stopped walking, "Screw this! I'm going to die before I get up there!" he barked to himself, yelling into the nothing as if to curse at someone, though nothing replied.

His face was both flushed a cherry color and screwed into a frown, topaz hues flickering about for some sort of shelter. Suddenly, in the near distance, a figure which took the shape of a cave appeared in view. Without a second thought, Ahote dashed from the cold, unforgiving winds of Mt. Hakobe into the security of the cavern. He walked into the darkness and took a long, relieving sigh. "Hmm. . ." he would hum to himself, continuing to rub his arms, although they had been submerged under a wool coat. Though, to his surprise, he had warmed far quicker than anticipated. Ahote turned to his side to find a fire, a person, and the corpse of some sort of wolf in their company. There was no immediate response at first, as Ahote would stare blankly at the person and her kill. But, it was not to last. His eyes widened and jaw dropped just moments after his finding, "What the hell?!" Ahote would gasp, his face that of ash for a few brief moments, though eventually returning to its normal tone after realizing that the person looked as if they have killed beast, and looked that of a hunter themselves. The sight of crimson or the one who wore it was no unfamiliar sight to him,
but the sudden appearance it certainly shook him. "What. . . who are you?" he sputtered, flustered. "Is everything alright?" Ahote spoke again, though more concern in his tone than before. His posture relaxed as he slumped against the rock wall, too tired to stand from the surprise.

    "Hunter. Hunted. Does it Matter?"

Golden eyes widened in surprise as her privacy was invaded by a small intruder. No, wait a child? What was a child doing in a storm like this...much less in the mountainside unaccompanied. Still children had always made her nervous as the skinning knife dropped from her hand in surprise as the child cried out. Her hands raised in a gesture that was an attempt to calm the child, but her face blushed as she realized a gore-covered stranger wouldn't be calming at all.  Returning her hands to her lap as she withdrew a cloth from her nearby bag to wipe her coated hands as golden eyes eyed the boy suspiciously. It was silly to think a child could cause harm to her person, but it wasn't in her nature to be trusting.

Areem was a solo hunter, it worked best with her tactics..much less her occasional appetite. It didn't do her any good to have partner end up loosing their own appetite after one..eventful hunt. Much less the alarm that she was met with when having to explain her situation, that she wasn't going to die from some strange disease due to eating the flesh of a beast. That her stomach was immune from such problems..that didn't stop the suspicious comments during meal times. Normal human food made her feel like her insides were on fire and weak..nothing compared to the rotten inside of a kill. In 'polite' company she soothed her hunger on dried strips of flesh..but it wasn't enough for her magic as she could loose her mind if she remained on such a diet. Or at least that was the selfish reason she told herself after emerging from her 'state', the last one had almost maimed her previous partner after he attempted to calm her down from a frenzy. That was two years ago..she had been a solo hunter ever since then. Her thoughts were broken as the boy's voice spoke out.

Finally the boy made the first move as he posed a question as Areem's mouth pursed as if it was a difficult question to answer. It wasn't that, she was debating if it was even worth having a conversation with this strange child. A gore-covered strange laying into the corpse, and he has to ask who she is. Finally her voice spoke out as harsh as it sounded, like she wasn't used to speaking to another human as she said softly "A Hunter". While the boy questioned her well-being despite the apparent fatigue in his own body "Yes". A sigh escaped her as she tossed something ebony at the boy's feet revealing an elegant blanket of sorts. It was a mixture of furs and feathers, but was surprisingly warm despite it's strange mixture of fabrics. A flicker of annoyance sparked in Areem's mind at having to care for some apparently lost kid, but she wasn't that heartless to throw him back into the snow.

A silence had settled over the cave aside from the occasionally snapping sound from the burning wood, Areem wished that she could resume processing the corpse before the skin of the creature began to harden. That was an impossible pain having to scrape flesh from stiff skin compared to its normally supple state. Still, she couldn't just ignore her new guest as she posed a question of her own "Lost?".  Silently wishing she was more social-able or at least capable of it "Are..you..lost?". The question posed several unasked ones, why was a boy in the storm, was he alright, what exactly was he here for? The mountains were dangerous enough with the severe weather..not to mention the beasts lurking about.

Ahote had been silent with wide, topaz eyes which flickered with fright, only to narrow into a more calm, relaxed demeanor. The foul, coppery smell of the beast's blood filled the cavern left him less willing to take long, satisfying breaths despite his temptation. But as the scent settled, it would transform into a more awful odor the more he stared at it, and decided to hug his knees and look out into the passing snowstorm. But as Ahote continued to eye corpse and the one who had slain it, he became oddly comfortable with the horrific scene and settled into the silence. The stranger, who had the silvery voice of a woman, deemed themselves as hunters. Even more, she would tell the boy that she had been fine, gave short responses, and came off as almost dismissive.

The woman didn't come off as threatening to Ahote, even if she had a beast's blood smudged over her hands, splattered here and there, and its innards spilling onto the stone earth. But what he did find captivating was her appearance on this mountain in the first place. She had tossed a blanket to him, as what he would assume to be a gesture of courtesy, and took it with only a grateful dip of his head. Ahote would wrap himself in the scratchy, uncomfortable, but warm blanket. Still, he couldn't muster up the courage to steal another glance of his company, who sat there in an eerie silence, and shivered noiselessly.

The fire would cackle and burn the wood until it scorched into a color like black, and no words would exchange between Ahote and the woman. He had considered being the first to break the ice, and each time his lips would part, no more than quiet breaths escaped. At this rate, it seemed as if the two would wait the storm out in silence. Or, so he thought. The woman spoke suddenly, causing the boy to flinch, twisting to face her with an almost bewildered countenance etched to his face. At the uttering of “lost,” the boy’s lips couldn’t help but quirk up into a warm smile. “Me? No, I live on this mountain. In the fortress at the top.” he had inched closer to her with scoots. Ahote had thought of asking the same question, but judging by her lifestyle, it seemed safe to assumed she knew what she was doing. Even so, his eyes once again flickered between the corpse and his company, “You. . . don’t plan on eating that, do you? I mean, if you’re hungry, we have places you can eat. . .” he queried, strangely concerned if she had planned on consuming the beast.

    "Hunter. Hunted. Does it Matter?"

A faint hue of red settled on Areem's face as the boy bestowed a smile on her. Human courtesy wasn't exactly common in her line of work nor did her quiet nature welcome it..so when such instances occurred..it was confusing for her. Faint memories of her childhood filled with laughter and love..or was that a mere dream, the only times that were crystal were of her..rehabilitation. Her hands rubbed the scarring around her wrists out of habit.  The boy's question was mere background noise as she could feel the icy grip of iron about her..only to be startled in reality. The boy was much closer than before, damn children ignoring boundaries. She had shared her shelter and blanket..he couldn't be seeking another's body heat for survival...so why was he coming closer.

A fortress atop the mountain. There were a few scant rumors here and there, most were dismissed as mere tales from frostbitten wanderers. Areem couldn't call it a lie or truth as she only been up to this mountain range during this single expedition. Then again children were known to tell tales..but he wouldn't have been wandering out in the middle of the mountain so unprepared. Curiosity was bubbling on her tongue as she would love to hear the truth behind all the rumors, but still she held her tongue. It was evident the boy wouldn't stop his own line of questioning as he gestured to the corpse beside her asking if she intended to consume it.

Genuine laughter escaped from her at the audacity of the question. Did she intend to consume the beast known for causing frostbite from it's flesh alone. Her laughter faded as she realized surprised that the boy's question was serious. Silently shaking her head with a firm no as she raised the skinning knife just over the surface of a battered ear, just enough for a trickle of blood to seep down to the cave's floor. It was strange looking as it slowly began to harden into an icy blue color until it landed on the surface. Ice crystals rapidly began to form on the cave's floor just around the spilled blood as Areem gestured to it "Winterel wolves's blood is dangerous even after death..but it's useful in magical items..for..several things. You wouldn't want to eat this..unless it was specially prepared to nullify the magic in it's bloodstream..or die from internal frostbite..".

Her voice took on an almost excited tone as her golden eyes seem to light up with simply sharing her knowledge. It was one talent she took deep pride in as she did not just hunt her prey..but learned from them even after death. Running a cloth over the stained knife as she continued "This blade was enchanted with nullification magic..hence the reason why it does not frost..". Her head cocked to the side as she peered at her companion "Are you hungry? Is that why you asked if I intended to eat this corpse?".

If the Gods were watching, she hoped his answer would be a flat no. The few provisions she did have stashed away in her bag were personal..and she doubted his taste buds would appreciate any of the jerky that she had made. It wasn't made of pork and she would just leave it at that. It had been years of trail and error for her to figure out what exactly her stomach would approve of..much less in breaking down any possible dangers in consuming the flesh of a strange beast. Thankfully one of her mistakes hadn't been in consuming the flesh of the corpse in front of her as her information gained in her travels were warning enough. DO NOT EAT. Clearing her throat as she posed a question of her own "This..fortress..I am surprised your caretakers allowed someone as young as you to wander about the mountain..it's dangerous for a child.."

The woman would laugh heartily in response to his query, which left the boy concerned for her own nutritional diet. Though what only seemed to be a lighthearted laughter filling the silence, Ahote had a rather puzzled expression, and in realizing the absurdity of his question flushed red in embarrassment. He dipped his head between the arms that folded and hugged his knees, hiding his cherry-like face, though his ears glowed with the redness through his messy raven locks.

The woman's hearty laughter faded in realizing the honesty in his question and responded fervently. She had expressed a certain zeal in talking of the constraints of her kill, as the atmosphere around them would light up with her. Of course, Ahote had still tucked his head away between his legs and peered through his fallen threads, but recognized her enthusiasm. From what she said, and quite a bit it was, the boy had only absorbed a number of words before understanding that the beast had basically been that akin to poison, and deemed the gory figured more interesting than horrific. Despite that, his eyes would always seem to look in any direction but the corpse in utter distaste.

The woman would continue to speak of the reasons she couldn't consume the animal and how her blade had been a tool for what he assumed to be skinning the thing. Ahote had admired the blade through his shock of hair and nothing more. However, what the woman would say next had provoked more of an intense reaction, one that even Ahote hadn't seen in a long while. She had asked if he had wanted to eat the corpse of the wolf as a result of his own inquisitive query. He lift his head from between his legs and wore a bright smile that stretched from ear to ear, cheeks red with contained laughter. Though he had tried to resist the urge to burst into laughter, he simply could not do it. Moments after she uttered such an equally absurd and honest question, Ahote hugged his stomach and burst out into a loud and bright laughter, his eyes wet with the tears that were nearly beginning to form at the corners of his hues. "Well, even if I was hungry, I wouldn't eat that." he giggled, most of his laughter escaping him and returning his countenance to that of a weakly but warmly smiling face. "I eat other things. Like grains, chicken, pork. . . and sometimes beef if it's a good day. Normal food." he spoke in heavy breaths.

Ahote would lean back on the stone walls of the warmly lit cavern with the strange blanket covering him, sitting idly next to his female companion. The boy stared into the fire with droopy orbs, feeling almost comfortable enough to nap. He became familiar with the scratchiness of the blanket and the coppery smell that filled the room, but he had not even thought of asking his companion her name. It hadn't come to mind. Abruptly, the woman spoke again, Ahote turning to look at her. At the mention of his youth, he had frowned a weak, jesting frown and ran his metal digits through his threads, in which he had carefully tried to hide from view through his sleeves, the remnants of what used to be a flesh arm not nothing but metal and bolts.
"It's not so dangerous if you're smart enough to dress warmly and avoid places where things like that walk about," he pointed to the wolf's corpse, "It's just that the storm hit so suddenly that I'm here now. On any other day, it'd be alright." Ahote sighed heavily with a simpering countenance.

    "Hunter. Hunted. Does it Matter?"

It seemed embarrassment was making its' rounds in the cave as the child had turned a hearty red color in response to her laughter. She hadn't meant to make the child feel foolish at her own laughter as tried to think of a way to bring the conversation back to something more..common. Thankfully she didn't have to take chance of small talk as the boy's cheerful nature returned in a fit of laughter. It was Areem's turn to flush red as the boy explained his own personal dietary preference as the reddish hue seemed to deepen as Areem stuttered out "Well..if you were really..hungry...you.". A huff escaped her as Areem's expression turned a bit sulky "Well children are notorious for putting strange things in their mouths..". That notion was true for babies from her limited interactions with them..she wasn't aware of when they grew out of that habit.

Leaning back against her own space of the cave as she mulled over his concept of 'normal' food. Cow, pig and chicken tasted almost too plain compared to the gamier meats that had crossed her own experienced pallet. Then there was that extremely strange experience in which she had fallen under the seduction of alcohol one such evening and awake with the most pleasant taste lingering on her taste buds. Ever since then she had been on the hunt for that divine experience, but nothing seemed to come close since that mishap. It was enough to make her stomach give a faint growl in response as Areem glanced back at her companion.

At least the boy's mood seemed to have lightened and his posture was relaxed. It was strange as Areem felt her own posture relax,it wasn't common for her to feel this at ease..perhaps it was because her companion was a child? A seemingly non-threatening one at that..despite his apparent wandering nature. Alarm appeared on her face as her golden eyes caught sight of the boy's mechanical arm. Pure instinct kicked in as Areem darted from her own spot as her pale hand grasped the cool metal appendage without a request, the color had drained from her face. Her next words came out in a low rasp "Alright, doesn't result in this..children should be..safe..Unless your..".

It's for your own good child. The God of Fate demands your redemption The clang of metal chains bound to wrists. A cloud of fog from an exhaled breath as a lone child curled into the corner of her 'room' as her..Elders slammed the door of her room with a bang. Not even a scrap of cloth to shield her from the cold stone floor as the ebony child's face streamed silently with tears. Dried red color streaked the cloth robes of her person as shaking hands rubbed together in an effort to fight off the cold. Everything was hurting again..what was she. Cursed? Why would her Elders do this to her. Golden eyes closed as she sought out that thread inside..as a single black feather fell to the floor. Just as her eyes closed into an uneasy sleep as she dreamed of the open blue sky..before it all..

Golden eyes widened in shock as her hand's grip had turned from gentle to a bit tighter after she had lost herself to the past. Shame was evident on her face as she hastily scrambled away from the child as her shaken hands grasped at the fabric of her robes. Her heart was beating far too rapidly as she exhaled loudly in an effort to calm it's frantic pace as she said softly "Forgive me. That was..wrong of me..Are you alright? I didn't use my magic on you..did I?".

Ahote had never given much thought about his wandering on the mountain until the woman had brought it up. As far as he could recall, no one had ever showed such genuine concern for his safety like that. Not over things he would normally consider trivial. While Famine did worry, it was never over trudging through the mountaintops or his encounters with strange beasts, but through exciting heists and suspicious jobs she'd take him on. At the thought, Ahote's expression dejected, a soft frown twisting his lips. The youth had only felt sullen in thinking of her.

Both he and woman had been lost in their own heads for a time as silence brushed over the two for a few moments. However, the peace that presided over them didn't seem to last very long, as the woman would lean toward him with a warm, fleshed hand coiling around his metal one. Ahote flinched, startled by her sudden advances, and instinctively leaned further away from her. At first, he had said nothing. Rather, he had been unsure of what to say in the first place. Only when he had realized that her actions were regarding her discovery of his prosthetic arm did he countenance soften from that of bewilderment to weak smile. He hadn't the energy to get angry or flustered, and instead wore a mild irritation on his face.

Another pause overcame the two as the youth would wait for his companion to release him from her tight grip. His topaz hues fixed to her own, though he couldn't help but let them wander about to other parts of her body. Her relatively thin neck, broad chest, round forearms, and belly Ahote felt almost compelled to rub. It had been a while since he could admire such a robust female figure. It had been far different from the grossly skinny or scrawny builds he beheld at home.

Eventually, the silence broke in the silvery voice of his companion. Shame had etched itself in her expression as she timidly scrambled away from him. His metal arm had still hung in the air where she held it firmly, Ahote staring at it bitterly. His eyes flickered with solemnity, though his weak smile reflected the same soft and gentle warmth earlier. He could recall nothing pleasant regarding this arm, or the person who had taken it from him. It had been nothing but an awful memory that he wished to forget, but couldn't, and started to believe that it was near impossible to do so. He had been wearing this arm since the incident, after all.

A sigh escaped his lips as the arm would descend to his lap and head would raise to face the flustered woman, "It's alright, I forgive you." he began, his expression twisting into that of a more quizzical smile, "I bet you're wondering how this happened, aren't you?" Ahote would inquire. He had never been able to talk about the incident besides the to the people who had directly been involved. But even then, unspoken feelings swelled deep within him. He had only felt bitterly about life as of late. "You probably feel sorry for me, right?" he asked again, his voice much harsher than before. Ahote had never enjoyed bringing attention to his arm, as it always ended up making him feel sorry for himself. His eyes would always sting with tears and his gut would seem to have dropped from the regret. It was at the mention of this arm that the boy had truly felt like a child.

    "Hunter. Hunted. Does it Matter?"

A soft sigh of relief escaped Areem at the boy's gentle forgiveness. Children were something to behold despite their many flaws, forgiveness seemed to be overflowing in them. Something akin to bitterness curled in her stomach as that brief flash of memory had made her so..shaken. She wasn't one to dwell on the past, it was pointless to even think of them. Still it hadn't stopped her..reaction..weak. She was weak to that phantom. Damn it. It seemed she wasn't the only one stuck in the past as her gaze flickered to the boy. His eyes were keenly set on the prosthetic as he asked if she was wondering of how a child would be inflicted through such a loss.

A strange spark of anger spiced her tongue as the boy suggested that it would cause her to pity him "To be dragged down by the past to be chained by it. Look forward to your future". ~If only you could take your own advice~ her mind hissed at her as she said such hypocritical words. Her head tilted to the side as if she was listening to something outside before she stood abruptly and began gathering her supplies. Small cubes expanded rapidly as magical seals sprouted about them as she placed bits and pieces of the wolf's corpse inside each cube. The most valuable being the strange tongue of the beast as it was sealed inside the magical cube. A valuable set of items she had managed to pick up from a fellow hunter after winning a bet..spacial cubes came in handy in times like these. The cubes shrunk in size as she stowed them away carefully in her satchel which she strapped to her back as her tone became neutral again "The storm has stopped. Your..home is bound is have some supplies I can buy or trade to continue my journey correct?".

Without waiting for an answer that she would even be allowed to enter said home, Areem turned on her heel and walked out of the cave. Money wasn't an objection when it came to supplies as Areem found out after being swindled one too many times by greedy merchants..still she wasn't one to waste time.  The storm had finally rattled to a halt as her footsteps left an imprint on the freshly fallen snow. A gentle smile curled on her expression as she took in the beauty of the powdered landscape. This was one of her true joys in her profession to see sights such as this in serene quiet.  Those moments could so easily be shattered by beasts lurking to ambush naive prey..thankfully Areem was a prepared.

Golden eyes flickered back to the cave as she called out "You might want to avoid looking up..getting snow in your eyes won't be pleasant..". With that warning, she gently placed her pack on the ground and removed the snowy silk robes from her form. Underneath was an elegant dress, it surprised folks to see a hunter willing to risk such fragile fabric, but she would never admit that the dress had grown on her. Besides, the tailor that made it didn't question her requests of..modification for the design. The dress itself was a stark contrast to her concealing robes as those that witnessed this sight either were allies who wisely kept comments to themselves or enemies that would never see it again.

It was cream-colored dress made of silk that clung to her figure like a second-skin around the top. Gold strings formed a collar-like decoration about her throat as the net-like embellishment streaked over the top of her chest, said neckline of the dress was almost too daring as it dipped in a heart-shape style. The leg portion of the dress draped down to her feet, but each curtain of fabric had been sliced into two separate portions up to her mid-thigh as her magic required mobility..but she wasn't about to bare all on accident. Releasing her hair from it's confines of the ribbon as charcoal hair spilled down to her waist as it brushed against her hips. That was the strangest design request that she had made, but it was good reason.

The curve of her hips was on display as her hands traced the patch of skin with a gentle touch. It wasn't wise to rush this and if she had the time would take it.  A shudder danced over her skin as she reached for that magic before stating softly "Carrion's Wings". The faint glow of magic curled about her finger tips in a soft mixture of gold and black waves as the flesh of her hips became covered in the magical glow. Within seconds, a set of wings as dark as the feathers of a vulture sprouted from her hips, their wingspan long enough for the tips to drag along the snow to leave another trail in her wake. Rolling her shoulders as if it was there that the spell had worked it's magic as the wings shifted in response.

It was like any other muscle as Areem took flight leaving a flurry of snow behind her. There was nothing like the crisp air of the mountains that made her sigh as her wings beat softly as her golden eyes flickered about the area. Scented pine trees and a few boulders here and there..it seemed any possible beasts were wisely avoiding the risk of another storm. Areem and her..'companion' did not have that luxury. A few scant ebony feathers drifted softly onto the ground as Areem returned back to her feet stating softly "It seems we are alone. We can begin traveling..if that is alright..".   Scarlet streaked across her face as wings ruffled themselves in reaction as she grumbled embarrassed "Forgive me, I never asked you your name..I am Areem..Areem Southen..". A sigh escaped her as a weak smile curled on her face "I give you..advice and without even introducing myself..Wonderful..". Her head cocked to the side as if coaxing out a frightened dog "  "Unless..you would rather dwell in your pity?". Her tone was gentler and almost teasing..well that was the closest you would get to have this woman be teasing.

The woman had snapped at the boy, insisting that he adopt a more optimistic attitude. From her usually calm and reserved demeanor, her intensity and sharp tongue had almost seemed beyond her. But Ahote, startled by her abrupt change in tone, stared at her awkwardly and said nothing in response. For a moment only the hiss of the fire broke the silence. Ahote had thought of what to say and considered changing the subject completely, but instead twiddled his thumbs together in a silent fit of anxiousness, giving him something to do while he waited for his courage to muster.

The delicate silence between them had fallen into the woman hasty movements about the cave, suddenly collecting things, organizing, the beginning to put the wolf's corpse into what Ahote assumed to be some sort of storage space. The boy had stuffed his face between his legs again and watched this attentively with narrowing eyes. For a moment he had nearly forgotten how much stuff the woman had scattered about and was mildly impressed by how efficient she seemed, even with the corpse lying there silently. Again, the woman spoke to him, his head raising and hues meeting hers, "Uh-huh." he quietly hummed to her, even though she had already began to pace ahead. Realizing that the two were about to leave together, he wearily stood up had clung tightly to the bizarre blanket.

The two had lumbered into the glistening wet snow, which had freshly fluttered down from the dark and storm-like skies, submerging their old footprints that once laid there. The woman said nothing, and neither did Ahote as they both had seemingly been lost in admiring the barren, white land. She would call back to him, he would rush to her and eventually find amusement in stepping in her footprints with his own. He smiled down to his feet quizzically, striding from print to print as the two ambled forward.

Pleasantly distracted by his own small game, Ahote had not noticed his companion's change in appearance until he had only been four strides away from her back. Upon her own words, a title of sorts, Ahote raised his head. "Oh. . ." he mumbled, unsure of what to say. What could you say to a woman who had just transformed from that of a typical hunter to something for more pretty and elegant? Ahote could only goggle her. Truthfully, it had not been the wings that surprised him, but her appearance in the dress, where her figure had been complimented and her hair had been far more noticeable. His father had possessed a figure and beast-like features far more menacing than this.

The woman briskly took flight, ebony feathers fluttering down from her takeoff. Briefly, Ahote admired her like a man exercising before reaching down and plucking the ebony from the fluffy, freshly fallen snow, letting his thumbs fiddle with it until the woman had returned to him.

Ahote would smile wearily as she rambled about, hues flickering with awe. Her own frustration had been almost cute, though the boy had almost no room to tease his senior, or so he assumed. Instead, his smile became a toothy grin, which would then morph into a frown and eyes wide with disbelief at the mention of introductions. The boy couldn't recall a moment where he had given his name either, and would grumble with her.

The woman had introduced herself as Areem Southen, the strange name rolling off her tongue, followed by an almost teasing remark. Ahote pursed his lips together, his cheeks and nose a cherry color as the blood rushed to them. His fingers anxiously twiddled together and eyes struggled to meet Areem's as his nerves began to consume him from the overwhelming embarrassment, "A. . . Ahote Laspor. Nice to meet you, miss Areem." he sputtered, his pursed lips quirking into an awkward smile, his metal fingers reaching to scratch the back of his head, "I nearly thought you were about to ditch me out here, taking off like that." crossed his arms grudgingly, "But yes, we can begin travelling. I'd hardly call it that, though. It's more of an intense hike." he would explain confidently, though eyes began to wander to the feathery tools on her back. Slowly, his face became like ash. "Or. . . do you intend to. . . fly up there. . . with me?" he reluctantly queried.

    "Hunter. Hunted. Does it Matter?"

Dipping her head in acknowledgement as Areem said softly   "Pleasure to meet you, Master Laspor..Although if you call me Areem, I think it would be better if I call you Ahote..". Her tone was teasing as the boy's cheeks had become flushed..it was..almost endearing. A soft laugh escaped her as her wings shuffled about as she waved a dismissive hand   "Well, I don't really plan on wasting my energy searching for this rumored home of yours by myself. Not when I have an excellent guide. Correct?".  A small part of her was bursting with excitement at the thought of finding some truth to the rumors. Yet a more rational side of her was chiding itself that it could just be a home in the snowy mountains.

An intense hike. Well it seemed that she had chosen the correct mountain to go hunting in if she was looking for a decent work out. Still if a child could manage the trip, then a woman like herself could too.  Still a gentle smile curled on her face as the boy asked if she intended to fly both of them up to this mystical castle of his. As if one cue, the wings vanished into a pile of feathers and faint ash-like magic as Areem gestured   "Unfortunately, my magic wouldn't be able to sustain itself that long with the added strain of a...guest". Her head cocked to the side as she teased    "Unless you are wanting to die from a very..very..very..long way up..I suppose I could find my way to this castle of yours..".

Inside, she was almost glad that the boy's face had turned a bit grey as the mere thought of having to lift him and herself for who knows how long made her muscles feel fatigued already. While it was her magic that made the wings, she couldn't help but feel the phantom fatigue in her muscles if she strained herself for too long while flying. She had attempted to carry another person only once..it had ended horribly. Her passenger had ended up with broken legs..although that could have been due to her 'accidentally' dropping him into a canyon after he had pissed her off one too many times. A journeyman highway robber..too stupid to know danger when it was glaring at him right in the face. Still he had demanded her possession and got just what he deserved. Although maybe she shouldn't of just left him there..but then again it was his fault.

Reminiscing over the memory for a moment as Areem gestured ahead of her   "Well, if you would lead the way Ahote. I would like to get to our destination before dark..or if that storm decides to pick up again". Noting that he still had the blanket about his form as Areem softly stated  "If you wish to keep it ward it off the cold. Consider it as payment for being my guide..". . Slipping back into the robes she had returned on the ground as she slipped the sachel back onto her person, ready to hit the road..or well..snow.

Areem's gentle laughter had been pleasant to listen to, a honeyed voice that could bring delight to anyone who heard it. She had beautiful body figure, but her skin had been ghostly pale. So pale, Ahote had suspected that she may not have been in health. Even more, her being a hunter would have never been his first guess when it came to lifestyles, but couldn't picture her as anything else. In comparison to his own, hunting had seemed like an awfully gross and thrilling way of living and was equally satisfying to see.

Ahote's cheeks had remained a cherry color as Areem continued to tease him, fiddling with the black feather between his fingers in his embarrassment. But with awkwardness and hesitation choking his throat, the youth could only nod to her responses. There wasn't much to say that wouldn't be mindless chatter, but the thought of it had cluttered his mind. "Where's she from?" he'd ask himself, "Why not buy your materials?" Ahote could never bring himself to imagine a life of hunting and the taxing labor that came with it. Not to mention nauseating sights one would see during the activity. A lot of the questions he had were more about her lifestyle than it was about her, it seemed.

When Areem had finally discussed the idea of flying with him to the fortress, Ahote had listened attentively and was mildly disappointed in her answer. He had hoped that there was a possibility of taking flight with her, as he had never been so high up from the ground. To another extent, he was relieved, as he was equally anxious about heights as he was disappointed in her answer. Regardless of the thought, Ahote rubbed the nape of his neck and twisted the threads of raven hair that rested on it, "Then maybe one day you'll do it for me from a very safe distance. It's not every day you get to fly, right?" he grinned with quivering lips.

His hands fell back to his stomach with the feather in between digits, turning to look up the steep mountain with weary eyes. With the exotic blanket and a thick jacket wrapped tightly around him, he was far too warm to want to hike up Mt. Hakobe. If anything, he'd rather stay at the settlement just at the foot of the feature, as services were given to him for free because of his status and it had been closer. But, putting his female companion's best interests in mind, Ahote had decided to travel with her. His lips quirked up into a smile at her mention of the blanket, in which Ahote clung to tightly, "I'll make sure to take care of it. It's really nice and weird and I love it." he sputtered, beginning to lumber through the freshly fallen snow again, "Anyway, let's go. We're not far down the mountain, so it'll take less than two hours, I think." Ahote beckoned to her with a pale hand as he made way through the thick wet snow,

    "Hunter. Hunted. Does it Matter?"

The boy's request lingered in her mind as the pair made their way through the fallen snow. The sincere excitement that gleamed in Ahoto's eyes made her almost regret declining the boy's request. Silently making the promise to become strong enough to give into that simple whim even for the smallest amount of time. She didn't voice this promise as a small voice whispered in the back of her mind that she wouldn't be able to accomplish that goal..her magic was too..underdeveloped. An inexperienced mage prone to allowing her magic take over..literally..the utter euphoria she felt allowing it rampage out of control. To forget her past and troubles as the creature raged on the battlefield to soak it all in.

A few would call this utterly irresponsible, but who were they to judge her for..such tactics. Still a bit controlled training would do her good, perhaps after her trip was concluded she could find another secluded location to attempt to rein in her magic. Patience was always one of her best virtues..that is when she chose to attempt to use it. As her mind ran about, Areem remained silent as each footstep left an imprint on the snow to be covered with another flurry of snow within seconds. Biting down her lip as she worried another storm would begin picking up..or was it the rising altitude. Jagged rocks lined the path as Areem fought the urge to glance down the hill to see how long their journey had been so far. Stamina came in bursts for Areem as she silently thanked that her companion was a mere child instead of a muscle bound man who could leave her in the snow drifts to move at a faster pace.

A small sound of surprise escaped her lips as it seemed that they had finally arrived at their destination. The boy's term of a home was a stark contrast to the one she had pictured in her head. In her mind's eye she had imagined a simple house made of wood with a roaring fire awaiting within and a scolding set of parents. The cold stone..castle before her was immense and impressive as Areem's gaze slid about the structure. It was impossible to imagine how a traveler  could forget this location..unless something else was..different about the structure. Golden eyes finally landed on the bundled Ahote as Areem asked with a tilt of her head "Ahote. This is a castle..not a home. Explain, please". Her tone was curious and gentle, as alarms rang in her head internally that there was something extremely dangerous about this place. While her bloodlust purred at the thought of combat, or at least a chance to flex it's muscles just a bit. Not that she was stupid enough to fall into a trap..on most occasions.

The pair arrived at the fortress in fewer hours than the bundled Ahote had originally anticipated. The structure was like as it always had been; quiet and encompassed in solemnity. It was the sight of home to the young man, admiring the structure with a bitter glare. How long had it been since he had stepped foot into a normal household? Where an open fire hissed in its hearth, a hotpot ready to be devoured by the ravenous hands of young children, and two jovial parents sitting on the nearby furniture, watching them, loving them. Ahote couldn't help but wear a dejected expression, a frown full of aggrievance. As each day passed by, each time topaz orbs beheld the fortress, he cringed more deeply than before.

The frown would quirk up into a weak smile at Areem's sudden comment, his cheeks rose with a blush and eyes wet. "You're not wrong. But I live here, too." he continued to lumber his way through the snow and ice until he approached the large, wooden doors that greeted him with its worn mahogany. Reaching into his jacket pocket, he groped about until he retrieved a small, rusty key made of metal. Ahote began to unlock the door, "But I'm not the only one living here, either. So I suppose so much space isn't too bad either, right?" he chuckled, the door cracking open. The cloudy atmosphere poured its dim light into the darkness of the building, which had only been lit through dusty windows and weak candlelight.

The air was warm and filled with dust, along with the faint smell of disinfectant. The seemingly abandoned rooms had clearly smelled of cleaning product but seemed to be in vain judging by the thickness of the air, as if no matter how determined one would be to clean to mess of a home, it would only get dirtier than it had first been. It came to a point where the raven-haired youth ended his frivolous attempts and accepted the dirty defeat.

Ahote stepped into the darkness, kicking his boots off and tossing them to the side and turning to beckon his strange companion, "You're cold, aren't you? Come in." a smile stretched on his red face, his body still snug within the exotic blanket.
