    Everything catches up eventually
    The night prior...

A soft, but raspy voice coo'd through the very buildings around her. From the whispering voices and loud screams, it sounded as if the buildings themselves were calling out for a merciful end to them. It was enough to drive a person insane if they had already been on the path towards that as it had already been, but in this case it just felt like mental torture. No matter where she stepped in this city, more and more of this mental state begun to sink and drown in the sea of voices, of pictures and film playing in her mind, some repeating themselves while others had been new ones that only depicted a more violent and disturbing destruction. These images, things a normal person should never have the misfortune of viewing had started to engrave itself into her memories like they were her own. In some aspects, they were her own memories, however in others... They were not. They were that of a being told throughout legends, told to be a rumor, some claiming it to be one thing when others would call it the something different. It seemed as though everyone had been overly judgmental towards the mythical creature; the origin slayer. They hadn't gotten a chance or any time to be able to actually talk with this creature, a person even AS a person. What they saw, what they heard, what they witnessed and possibly even had simply claimed false news for had not been the same thing the child met face-to-face not too long ago. However, every lick of imaging, video, and voice crying in her head threw her into an insomnia filled spiral. Whatever had taken place her had started to feel as though the pain suffered through that of the dragon was also being felt through her. Her clothing started to tare and shred as her mind enveloped in this state grew further into a spiral so much that her body began to change. Her arms and legs shredded it's skin, forming dragon like claws and talons. Wings erupted through her attire and expanded their best, resting just after. Horns sprouted from her skull and sat atop her head, protruding from her hairline as if they had always been there. And there at last, wandering the midnight streets aimlessly and mindlessly; Madison Richter, the hybrid child.

    The next morning

The sun had begun to rise, the birds finally exiting their nice long slumber and joyous enough to bring a tune of morning cheer to those that could hear. A grand form of a mornings good beginning, at least that been the case for some. As some of the working folk began to walk around for their usual commute to work as well as those of whom had begun to return home from their overnight work as well. Kiosk salesman selling coffee in little carts, pretzels, and other assorted foods and beverages began to pass around as well, but all of them acted or even had pretended as if what was near them hadn't existed. A red headed girl, a teenager of the age of 13 whom could appear to even be slightly younger than that. Long red hair tied into twintails hung down like two waterfalls, pooling on the seat next to her. One had been vastly looser than the other, while tired eyes began to slip off into sleep before popping back into one of wide awake, only to last just seconds before it would just cycle again and again. Ever time her eyes would shut, her mind would flash images back, causing her to jump scare herself awake and trying to keep herself from having to endure more images. A mint green sundress cloaked most of her body, tattered in the back and along the backside of the bottom, obvious claw marks ripping through the fabric in several places. Lucky for her, this had been lucky enough that she wouldn't have to worry about the dress slipping, as both thin straps that hung over her shoulders had kept it up nicely. The both physically and mentally exhausted child simply sat where she had been, avoiding wanting to approach her and attempt to help.

And while you are sitting indoors
waiting for the storm to pass
I will be outside dancing in the rain

Astrid had not thought about the price of fame before. At least, not before a couple days ago. After her announcement of becoming the number one Rising Star the violinist had noticed herself becoming the center of attention whenever she walked into a building or any sort of area with lots of people, their eyes staring like daggers into her soul, watching her every movement. While she would not normally mind it too much, as she was still trying to get over her stage fight it wasn't the most helpful thing in the world. Whenever she could feel their eyes looking over her she would start to twitch and feel uncomfortable, knowing if she even breathed wrong the entire world would probably know of it. It was rather intimidating. Though in the end, she knew she was kind of asking for it, trying to build up fame. But really, in the end, was it worth it? The dragon slayer didn't know the answer. While the staring and constant demand for autographs and other various things of that nature could get a little tiresome, there was so weird pleasure she got out of it all too. It just went to show how far she had come since leaving Peace Village a couple months ago, not known within the land of Fiore at all. Now look at her. One of the aces of her guild and a rising star. It was the first big step in achieving her dreams. So even if she may be a little uncomfortable with the sudden drastic change in attention, it was hard to say she didn't want fame at all. Quite the opposite, actually.
While she could live with the attention change for the most part, the thing about fame that got to her the most, was the work it was pushing upon her shoulders. First the ace stuff, like paper work and exam giving. Now with her Rising Star status even more things were being pushed onto her. Jobs were the most common. Everyone was coming to her for their problems, hoping she could fix them. And since Astrid had a problem with saying no, she ended up doing anything that was asked of her.
This particular day, the magic council had called her in for a small job. And of course, the violinist agreed. It had not been anything too hard, just a simple monster hunting job near some small villages. But it had still taken a couple sleepless days to get everything sorted out and rid the land of the seemingly never ending spawn of monsters. It had left the ace, well, looking quite dead.

Her posture was different from normal. Usually she was rather good about keeping a prim and proper appearance, but now as she slumped though the streets of Era, dragging her feet against the pavement, shoulders hunched over slightly, dark circles under her crimson eyes, skin as pale as a ghost, she didn't exactly look like her normal cheerful self.
She winded her mouth in a yawn, blinking her eyes slowly, as if the action of doing so hurt. What she would give to be home already, sleeping in her own comfy padded bed, being warmed slowly by Lark's soothing body heat as it lulled her to into a deep slumber. At this point Astrid knew she could sleep for days if given the chance. However, that was no longer an option, no matter how lovely that sounded. It wasn't as easy as it use to be. She had responsibilities now. Much more. She couldn't let hundreds of people down just because she, one person, didn't feel like doing something. That couldn't happen. She had come so far, it wouldn't be fair to let all the effort go to waste over something like sleep. No. When she got back to the guild, she made a promise to herself to go straight into her office and finish up that paper work she left behind to do the job. She had been right in the middle of it before the magic council called for her. If she were to leave it any longer it probably wouldn't be done at all. It needed to be done as soon as possible. And when everyone else was happy, that was when she could finally rest. Everyone else before herself... It was almost like a motto of hers.

It was then, in her half-sleeping half-daydream state, that she noticed a very vivid color in the corner of her eye.
    Red.
Not quite like her eyes, a little more lighter than that. It was somewhat out of place in the otherwise bland street, so it managed to catch the sleep deprived mage instantly with her easily distractible nature. A closer look would reveal the red hair was connected to a rather adorable child... Though was it actually a child? The slayer could not tell so easily, even with her advanced eye sight. No matter what age she was, however, Astrid could not help but feel some sort of cuteness radiating from her. There was something about her half-asleep face trying to keep herself awake... The slayer could not help but to become entranced by it.
Like a moth attracted to a felt-covered flame Astrid soon found herself taking a detour from her original path and began walking towards the girl. Once close enough, just a few inches away from her, she placed a delicate hand upon one of the teen's twintails, giggling to herself as she rubbed her hand across her head, like an owner would do to their pet.
It was unknown if Astrid knew exactly what she was doing in her half-asleep state. If the girl just so happened to look up to the silver haired mage she would see a happy, goofy expression upon the woman's features, her eyes closed in a blissful state while mumbling random words to herself.

So much for going home. If this lasted like all the others times she had been caught up in this weird state of hers, they may both be here for some time...

Her sight flickered between reality and her own conscious mind as she tried to place reality first but seemed unable to do so. This mind boggling feeling in her head felt like a form of torture meant to drive a person into insanity. If something like this had ever been forced on her, she'd no doubt give in before it could ever begin to happen. It was something that she would never place on even her worst of enemies, and frankly she was blessed to not have any of those right now either. Even in having met a dark mage herself, she had found him to be a lot less evil than she gave him credit for. She enjoyed spending the time she had actually spent with him despite who he was and her general dislike of them. It only came to prove that you couldn't judge a book by its cover, but you could certainly still do it anyway.

Her body jolted by the sudden feeling of something touching her. Her eyes buried into the ground in front of her, she hadn't noticed a person coming up near her. The persons hand rubbed the red heads hair side-to-side, which seemed to start to calm her down a bit. Even though she hadn't of seen who it was, her mind began to think of who it could have been among those she knew. Maybe mama Aiyana? No no, she would have already had her held up in her arms in a deep, comforting hug or something in seeing her in this state. Sol didn't seem like that kind of person to even care any longer to be honest. The child feared looking up to see who it was. God forbid it end up being him of all times, it would explain a lot of things, but she wasn't too sure of it really happening.

Finally, after a moment of letting her head be rubbed a little longer, she finally began to look up. Looking around, she saw the feet of someone facing right at her and began to ascend the persons body. Little by little, the area around the girl began to seem brighter, as she guessed through the clothing and simply body type of the stranger. Her eyes squinted a little as her eyes almost seemed like they were playing tricks on the child. The more she got up to the girls face, the brighter it had gotten for her and the harder it seemed for her to be able to see the girl. It was then she got to the face; a genuine smile and caring facial expression just in time for a scent to hit her. She let out a scream and jumped to the other end of the bench, a look of unbridled fear on her face looking at the girl. She wasn't sure what that smell had been really, but given the night that she had, anything could easily set her off. "P-Please do-don't hurt me..."

And while you are sitting indoors
waiting for the storm to pass
I will be outside dancing in the rain

The sudden scream from the red headed child is what managed to snap the drained dragon slayer from her strange state. Feeling her hands no longer stroking anything physical crimson eyes reopened, blinking once, then again, hand continuing to stroke the nothingness as her senses began to slowly process everything. After the third and final stroke did the ace tilt her head to the side slightly, a curious and surprised mix of emotions plastering onto her face, leaving her hand paused in the air.
What... Was this? Since when did she end up near the bench? Wasn't she just on her way back home a few seconds ago? Why was she now standing a few feet from where she was before? And why was she stroking nothing? The musician had not realized what had happened due to her half-asleep state. Everything felt a little blurry and out of focus, like she wasn't even in her own body at this point, watching everything with no control over anything she did... Maybe she had blacked out for a second and started going the wrong way... That was probably it. It had already happened a few times this week, so she could believe it happening once more.
Rising her hand to rub the top of her head it was only then did she notice the small twintail near the other end of the bench, an expression of pure fear upon her small face as she looked up to her. Blinking twice before the image managed to process in her mind Astrid's gaze widened. Why was this kid so scared? By the looks of her it was like she had seen a ghost or something.
"Are you okay? What's the matter, little one?" The slayer asked gently, a look of pure concern upon her features. Maybe she had lost her mother or something. It wouldn't be that surprising. Era was a big and bustling place after all, losing a child wouldn't be too unusual. If that was true then Astrid was sure to help her find her missing parents... Or whatever it was that was scaring the child so much. She supposed her paperwork could wait just a little longer. The safety of a child outweighed it significantly. Elyx would understand.
