Contrary to popular belief, the silent glaciers were not so silent. Maybe compared to others places it was silent, but even the faintest of noises seemed to be elevated in these icecaps. They were about as noisy as you'd expect icecaps to be. You could hear the herds of reindeer galloping across the snowy wasteland or the crashing and falling of a glacier splitting apart in the far, far distance, making the white earth rumble in its destruction.

The Silent Glaciers were wide, expansive, flat, and empty. All of its precarious features were enormous and far off on the horizon, so far that it seemed that no matter how long you walked, you would never reach it. Obviously this wasn't true, but it felt that way. And yet, despite its flatness, many populations of different animals thrived like the reindeer from earlier. It was hard to explain how they could flourish in such a barren land, but there were always creatures that could. Needless to say, it was difficult for humans to live off the land like the herd of reindeer, and consequently, there were very few if any settlements to be found in the Silent Glaciers. It was too dangerous, too unpredictable of a place to live comfortably, and so cold that the packed snow covering the earth beneath them was as hard as rocks. When it snowed, it never really snowed. There were either snowstorms, blizzards, or nothing but a clear sky and cold sun above you. The weather was erratic and extreme, and so were the other beasts that lived there. You couldn't pick them off the horizon like you could the distant glaciers, but they were there and a big reason why many of the settlements that may have existed here ceased to.

It wasn't storming today, and according to weather reports, the next snowstorm was not likely to come until tomorrow morning. But regardless of the weather, a client's troubles didn't blow away so easily.

Sheldon Stern and Chiyuki Suzuki both recently received promotions, and as a result, also received the impressive lists of issues to resolve that came with the rank. Their schedules were beginning to look somewhat similar to the Field Marshal's, or at least Doppo's was. He couldn't speak for his good friend, but he assumed they both had similar circumstances.

One of the items on that list required them both, together, to be dispatched to the Silent Glaciers. To put it simply, because it was rather simple, they and two others were responsible for "exterminating powerful monsters" in the area. It was an informal request of a client who simply needed some of the beasts' materials, but was of such particular import to the Magic Council themselves that they were inclined to send some of their best men alongside the other wizards that would accompany them.

They left early in the morning, because driving to the Silent Glaciers was not as linear as one would expect. They weren't so easily accessible and the terrain was rough for the average vehicle, but for a Rune Knight Cruiser, some ice and snow was nothing for its tires. That, and Doppo was a surprisingly skilled driver. Most things that the average motorist would struggle with he found very little trouble in working around. He and Sheldon sometimes stopped for coffee or restroom breaks, and would then resume their day trip, though it wasn't unlikely that they may be stuck there for more than twenty-four hours.

When they arrived, and they were the first to arrive, Doppo parked the cruiser at the rendevouz point which the client specified as some courtesy of the mages taking on the job. They were easy to spot, as their crusier was the blackest thing on the empty, flat horizon. Doppo blasted the heat in the car, reaching for the handle just below his seat and reclining as far back as he could, practically laying down.

Doppo groaned and sighed, the bags underneath his eyes appearing through the shock of red hair laying over his fatigued, pale face. ". . .It's f*ckin' cold outside, man. . ." he mumbled to Sheldon, wearing a winter trench out that looked similar to his uniform. Just looking at Doppo could make you feel hot, but dreading the chilliness of the Silent Glaciers outside, he relished the heat as long as he could. He was a lot more talkative around Sheldon, but this was only a result of him getting comfortable around him as time passed. With others, he probably wouldn't have said a thing. But with him, Doppo felt as if he could unravel his complaints while they waited for their company to arrive.

Shane could only stare out of the otherwise quiet journey as Doppo took the wheel behind the cruiser. Originally thinking that the cruiser his colleague had in mind was a seaborne vessel, Shane had found himself very, very wrong. Very wrong indeed. Instead, here he was, staring at nothing but pure white as they zoomed along the barren landscape in their all-terrain vehicle. One thing that Shane had to praise though, was that the shock absorbers of the vehicle was really well done, making the ride only less uncomfortable.

After their most recent promotions, it had been awhile since Shane and Doppo has shared the same mission. With the permanently sleepy redhead being his first friend in the Rune Knights, Shane had gladly agreed to the job. The only problem? He had no clue about what the objective of the mission was. And because of that, he had no one else to blame for the method of transportation selected. If he had known they were going to the Silent Glaciers, Shane would have gladly offered his airship.

After a ride that took more than twenty-four hours, despite the occasional stops along the way, they finally arrived at the rendezvous point the client had selected for them to meet up with the other mages that had accepted the job as well. Doppo had turned on the heater in the car, despite the Major General already dressed in winter clothing. On the other hand, due to his magic, Shane found his body already adapting to the winter temperature. He had requipped into his combat suit as well, making it much more comfortable for him.

“It’s sweltering hot in here, man,” Shane said as he finally stumbled out of the vehicle, stretching his limbs and his spine while leaving the door open on purpose. The cracking of his tight joints as they relaxed echoed out around them, especially with the consecutive pops when Shane stretched his back. Shane took a look around him, and other than their black cruiser on the white background like a dot of ink on paper, there was only a very rundown shack. The Rune Knight tried to look further, but so far, he hadn’t found any signs of the other participants.

The constant winds kept blasting Shane in the face, and definitely into the car as Shane knew it would annoy his coworker. Still, Shane kept it open and even when he bent over to talk to his coworker, he did it with one arm resting on the open door and the other on the top of the roof.

“How many did you say was going to be joining us on this hunt?” Shane called out to his colleague who was now lying back into the fully reclined car seat. Shane shook his head, and pulled out a bottle of whiskey from his Requip dimension, along with two glasses. Easily unscrewing the cap, Shane placed the two glasses on the top of the cruiser and then poured the amber liquid into the glasses until they were half full before sealing the bottle and returning it. Holding one glass in his left hand and another in his right, Shane held the one in his left hand to Doppo.

“This should warm you up, Sue.”

When he had gotten word that his presence had been requested for a job classified as a “Ten year quest”, Solmar was actually quite impressed. He hadn’t imagined that people were actually that aware of him, even though he had been going around making a difference in Earthland and beyond for almost a year now. By the time he noticed that it was a summons that came from the Rune Knights, he figured that it might have been because of Shane Stern, which was one of the mages from the legal guild that he had come to know fairly well after fighting a wild god and a water elemental lord with him on various occasions. More than that, the Rune Knights were one of those guilds that he had become quite familiar with as he had also dealt with people like Grappa, Jelisha, Dawn and Rune on different jobs where he more or less ran into them. But that was his way of doing things.

He took on a job, went to the destination of said job and if he encountered someone who was already on it, he would either ally himself with them or go about it on his own. As such, he had considered the people of the Rune Knights to be good folk, which was saying something as he generally did not think that highly of human beings as they all too often decimated the natural world around them without a care. At least the knights he had met so far seemed different, and they seemed to have a lot in common with what he was trying to do in the world. With the description saying something about monsters, part of him wondered if this was yet another place that had been quietly under siege by the minions of corruption, just like Cedar, the Underglow, Tolgalen and the beanstalk village had been before it. If this were the case, it was a good thing that he was going as he could use a win to boost his confidence and morale.

Wearing his thick fur coat to keep him warm, it wasn’t so much that he was feeling cold or anything, though the winds that blew from time to time were not all that desirable. Keeping his hood on as a means of keeping the winds from truly bothering, Solmar was just glad that it wasn’t snowing. Only knowing what the winters in Fiore were like, which had been turning his situation quite dire from time to time, especially when he was still a kid that needed to scrape to get by, venturing to a place where it was winter all the time was not something he would have normally done. But seeing as how the description of this job had been quite… limited, to say the least, and because it had come from the Rune Knights, he imagined the right thing was to just go. Traveling for hours on foot, he eventually made his way to the agreed upon location, seeing that two others had already beaten him to it.

    Greetings.

    ❖ MONSTER HUNTER WORLD ❖ (10Y/Johann/Shane/Amalie) 3nysopW

The Ambassador's leather chair was turned around, facing the window, a stark contrast to its normal orientation that presented the man sitting idly within as open and approachable to whoever chose to enter the office space behind him. At current, however, the silver-haired male, easily identifiable as one of the two Ambassador's himself, wanted to be left alone, wanted to seem like anything but approachable, his back turned to the small stacks of paperwork that had been building up slowly but steadily upon his desk. Even his posture was more than indicative of his state of mind, and while clad in the characteristic black uniform, accents of red and gold fabric decorating it, he didn't sit upright. Quite the contrary. Slumped into his chair, the hat of the same colors that normally complemented his uniform covering his face entirely, the man simply sat there, hands folded in his laps, motionless. If anyone had been there to witness this behavior they, if they knew Johann von Weiss closer, would likely be able to define this as a contemplative state, as odd as the sight was. The man didn't often set aside time for extensive periods of deeper thought, preferring a direct and unsubtle approach to most problems, and while this worked for someone of his particular talents, he had a guild to take care of, and, in a twist formerly unknown to the man, people to take care of.

The recent events on Kenrojima had exposed his flawed line of thinking. Not just to himself, it seemed. The letter from the magic council still rested on his desk, the fine ink on an almost silken paper detailing his demotion from one of the Gods of Ishgar to a Wizard Saint. It wasn't like the title was the cause of any particular sorrow, the Ambassador could care less about an artificial designation. It was the warning that came attached with the message that worried the Rune Mage. Of course, the Magic Council had invested excessive resources into the guild, and a failing like the one that had occurred on Kenrojima, the first official use for what they, the angry, troubled higher-ups in Fiore, undoubtedly considered its asset, was an undoubtedly a heavy blow to the Magic Council's prestige. Another failing wouldn't be tolerated. Of course, Johann was ready to challenge the Council on their decision, in whichever form this might be, but the guild- Dies Irae, was not. He couldn't, wouldn't put them in danger, place a burden of such gravity on them, especially considering most of them, with high likeliness, viewed the Magic Council as an instance of supreme justice, authority, and righteousness. No. He was left with little choice. Undoubtedly, this fact was known to the ones who had drafted this warning. Bureaucrats saving their skins. If they had sent assistance to Kenrojima in the first place, this wouldn't have become a problem, to begin with. The figure in the chair exhaled, producing a small sigh. It was what it was, despite the fact that his last word with the Second Seal hadn't been spoken yet. Mars was oddly quiet, and despite the fact that Johann could feel his presence more strongly than ever within his own body, the vessel, the Lord of War remained silent, unwilling to surrender information, or perhaps more accurately, willing to give said information at his own pace.

For them, it was certainly a decision of great symbolism. For the Ambassador it was a day like any other. He had business to attend to, hoping that Sivvy could handle the guild while he was away, although evidently, she seemed like she was busy as well, at least at this particular time, as made evident by her absence in the Ambassador's office. Perhaps she had just taken a small trip to the Mess Hall? It wouldn't be uncharacteristic for the rose-haired Metal Slayer. Whatever the case, though, the guild would take care of itself while he had to, to put things simply and for the lack of a better way to describe it, blow off some steam and get his mind off a certain event. The contract, from what Johann could gauge, would require his absence for a mere few hours, half a day at most, depending on the circumstances he would find upon his arrival. Nothing too serious. His left hand reached upward, picking up the hat that had previously hidden the Ambassador's face and placing atop the head of messy silver hair, his dull, dual-colored eyes focussed on the autumn light falling through the closed window. For just a second, he closed them before finally beginning to move, picking up a pen and scribbling a short note on a blank piece of paper, leaving it behind on his desk just in case Sivvy would return soon or anyone began to wonder about his own presence. The man stood up and turned on the spot in a smooth motion, quick, soft steps taking him to the other side of the office and towards the door that was swiftly opened and closed, leaving behind an empty room.

It didn't take long for the man to maneuver the extensive hallways of the palace-like structure that constituted the guildhall of Dies Irae, he knew them by now, reaching the open archway that formed the entrance to the throne hall in not more than a few minutes at best, stepping outside and onto the granite platform that crowned the hill with it's white, although admittedly bland hues. The air outside had gotten much colder very quickly, although the temperature was still comparatively mild, the ocean winds and currents keeping the climate somewhat stable, rainy, if nothing else. The man took a breath. To his luck, the instructions had come with its own set of coordinates. Some which the Ambassador intended to follow with accuracy. A brief flash of magical energy caused the black scripture that covered nearly half of his body to glow cyan, although hidden underneath clothing and equipment, before, from one moment to the next, the man was gone.

The transition from Amber Island to the Silent Glaciers was a harsh and immediately extreme one. The temperature had to have dropped considerably, severe winds and blizzard-like snow doing their part to numb sight, smell and hearing in an instant, making getting an overview of the surrounding area, a white expanse that stretched as far as the eye could see, initially challenging, although luck seemed to be advantageous today. The spell had placed Johann on a somewhat elevated position on a cliffside that, if nothing else, served as assistance, his onyx coat dancing in the wind as his gaze wandered. With his eyes, spotting the obvious black dot, the only thing that stood out amongst the omnidirectional blanket of white, wasn't all-too-difficult. Although ice-cold air filled Johann's lungs, neither weather nor terrain would be effective at presenting a barrier, of course. With the same arcane flash, the man vanished once more.

A puff of snow was about all that indicated his sudden and immediate reappearance, placing him close to the peculiar vehicle. It was still a good walking distance away, but shapes that had been undiscernable before now seemed explicitly humanoid, and if Johann was correct, he counted two of them next to the construct. A satisfied smirk lifted a corner of his mouth upwards. Seemed like this was it.

The Ambassador approached quickly, not wanting to leave his contacts to wait in the cold for too long, undoubtedly easily visible in the snow, dressed entirely in black, before finally reaching the small gathering, coming to a halt a few meters away from the vehicle. Something unexpected seemed to be waiting for him. "Captain Stern", he greeted the man that had paid Amber Island a visit before and had introduced himself as such, giving him a nod of acknowledgment, "It has been a while. In honesty, I had no idea I would find you here. A pleasant surprise. Is Major Suzuki with you?".

There was, however, also a factor that he couldn't quite interpret as well. The factor being an unknown face. "I don't believe we have met. My name is Johann von Weiss, Ambassador of Dies Irae. It appears we will be allies on this mission". He kept the introduction short and formal, at best, at least for now. He was certain the opportunity for idle conversation would present itself sooner rather than later, though.

The arms folded over Doppo’s chest layered with coats and thick fabrics for the outdoors tightened when Sheldon opened up the cruiser’s door and welcomed the cool, thin, quiet breezes of the Silent Glaciers in. He side-eyed him, glaring at him indignantly without moving his face instead of saying anything. Sheldon knew that opening the door and leaving it that way would annoy the redhead inside who preffered to broil within than to loiter outside, but still left it open regardless. Doppo was more of an avid listener than a talker, so his form of protest was to briskly reach over and blast even more heat into the cruiser, even though it made no noticeable difference.

But then the subject of their company came up, and Doppo dreaded it. He didn’t avoid the idea because he didn’t like people, but because they reminded him of the job they were about to embark on. Their cold, icy job with no warmth aside from their many layers shielding them from the nippy breezes. ”. . .Ah. . .” he mumbled, pausing to recall those details, ”. . .two mages H-class and up, I think. . .” said Doppo, still fully reclined in the driver’s seat. It was only details like these that Doppo had some lick of access to before embarking on the trip. Most of the private or sensitive information was between the client and the job-takers. This is how it is for most jobs, but sometimes, for Rune Knights, clients request or require Rune Knight intervention and the job is then labeled and delivered as an “order” or “private investigation.” But while not uncommon, most Rune Knights marched through Fiore solving cases and resolving conflict as other mages would from legal guilds.

Between the bite-sized chitchat between the two officers, Sheldon found room to pull out some kind of alcohol in which Doppo hadn’t bothered inspecting or pondering. When he poured some for them both and handed it to him, Doppo thanked him quietly and instantly began to sip, relishing the burning flavor and tempting aroma. But nothing gold can stay, because as soon as he began to get comfortable in the unbalanced blend of heat and coolness, someone unfamiliar approached them, and the redhead sighed wearily.

“Greetings,” a man said from outside the cruiser. Doppo hadn’t recognized this voice and wasn’t sure why he thought he would. He didn’t really know anyone outside of his job and hadn’t bothered or simply missed the opportunities to work with other mages during jobs. Regardless, the simple hellos they were exchanging were not important enough to compel him to get out, peek outside the window, wave to him, or even say anything from within the cruiser that might make his existence known to their new company. But then another voice poached their attention.

“Captain Stern,” this voice said, and it was a cool tone that Doppo actually recognized this time. It was Gohan von Weiss, although he later introduced himself, the ambassador (or one of) of Dies Irae. He remembered him so well because of how generously they fed him during their visit to Amber Island! It was generous enough to compel Doppo to peek out of the open cruiser doorway and give a lazy, fatigued salute with his usual indifferent countenance and deadpan, blue-eyed gaze. ”. . .Hello, Mr. Ambassador. . .” Doppo looked over at the stranger as a result of him just being there, ”Hi.”

After his greetings, Doppo slipped back into the cruiser, taking the opportunity and grabbing the open door’s handle and shutting it behind him as he returned. He let the driver’s seat rise a bit so that he wasn’t completely reclined and continued to sip his alcoholic drink, in which he still had yet to ponder its contents.

Shane grinned when he saw Doppo turn up the heat. For some reason, it was always most fun annoying the sleepy-looking guy. Maybe he was just trying to force a strong reaction out of his constantly depressed-looking coworker. Or maybe he just wanted to annoy him. It was probably the second option. Their friendship was a rather strange one, that didn’t hinge on the two of them to be open with each other, but rather to annoy each other. It probably started when Doppo had called Shane Sheldon and he had returned the favor by calling Doppo Suzy.

“Wow, two H-class mages,” Shane echoed his partner and then gulped down his own glass, feeling the heat from the alcohol slowly creeping up from his belly. “What the hell are we hunting that we need two H-class and two S-class mages?”

Just as those words left his mouth, the two H-class mages that he had just asked about made their appearance in a promptly as well as coincidental manner. When he turned around, whiskey glass void of its contents in his left hand, Shane could only smile. The one with the succinct greeting was someone he had worked with on two separate occasions and also a person who he could trust to have his back in the worst of scenarios. It had also come as a surprise that Solmar was now a H-class mage after their last meeting, causing Shane to think about his own progress.

The other gentleman joining them was also another unexpected heavy-hitter. Shane had just met him quite recently as well, and was glad that he would be able to see the extent of his strength soon. Shane had never expected that the Ambassador himself, the one standing at the top of Dies Irae would be joining the job. He figured that top brass such as himself would be handling other matters of greater importance compared to their trifling hunt regardless of the prey’s level of danger.

Behind him, Doppo merely gave a simple greeting and immediately slammed the door to the passenger side shut with a loud slam. Shane could only watch wordlessly, not knowing what he should do with the redhead. He was the Major General of the Combat Corps after all, shouldn’t he be taking more effort to uphold his own image as a commanding officer or the Rune Knights. Shane shook his head minutely, before turning his head back to look at the other two gentlemen.

“Good to see both of you again, Solmar, Ambassador Von Weiss. I hope you don’t mind Major General Doppo’s behavior. He can’t stand the cold, yet he picked up this mission of all things. I couldn’t be happier with this coincidence of us four as allies. I look forward to learning from you, Ambassador von Weiss,” Shane spoke humbly in the presence of Ambassador von Weiss. He highly respected the man, his discipline and lastly his magical strength. Towards Solmar, Shane was a little more casual.

“It seems like I’ve got so much more to do to catch up to you, Solmar. H-class huh?” Shane grinned as he held up his left hand, giving the swordsman a thumbs up. “Any updates on the hunt with the last elemental lord?”

When Shane greeted them after the other guy he didn’t know was being somewhat awkward about it, and seemed to only do so after the Other guy he also did not know arrived shortly after he did, he heard what he had to say about how he had been going through the ranks of the wizarding world rather quickly. While he wanted to inquire about the other two figures that had gathered here with them as he had no idea as to who they were, he imagined they could wait for a bit until the present topic had been concluded. Figuring rune knights would be quite aware and up to date on such things since they worked with the magic council, it did not really strike him as a surprise. After all, he had been taking on jobs left and right, doing the things many might not be able to do or simply did not want to do. Still, it made him wonder exactly what those from the modern world knew about him as he never checked in for anything and only ever did the things he felt like doing. Checking in with a magic council was clearly not on that list.

A lot of things happened so far, things that took me to an entirely different dimension with a lot of problems similar to the ones we have here. Being there changed me quite a bit, made me a lot stronger and less… conflicted.

Though somewhat expected, the question regarding the final elemental lord still shook some things loose in his head. For him, it hadn’t been that long since he had returned from a different dimension, a place where nature was the highest authority. Not caring about whether or not the other two mages heard about the things he had to share with one of the few people he considered to be a friend, he tried converting his thoughts into words. Often having some difficulty with it, especially when trying to explain something someone else had not experienced the way he had, he did his very best to make himself as clear as possible.

Don’t ask how, but I managed to get him and complete the elemental node, that’s actually what brought me to that other place. Some entity there took it from me and used it to unlock my latent potential, and my magic hasn’t stopped growing since. There were some other .. complications, but they can wait.

Though it would most likely have sounded strange, it was true that his powers were constantly fluctuating and growing to greater levels. Just five months ago, he had barely been recognized by the magic council at all as someone who had stepped out of the wilderness and out into the open. At the time, he barely had any knowledge as to what he was capable of and what his magic could do. Now, he had worked up a bit of renown with the magic council, made his presence known to members from various guilds and made it clear that he was looking after nature and life in general. While it was in fact something he was quite proud of, there were still a lot of things that made him somewhat anxious. Having no real clue as to when his magic power might hit the roof and stop growing, it was something that would need to work itself out as time progressed. Speaking of time progressing, there were still a couple of things he felt needed to be clarified here. Most of them, obviously, being in terms of the rather vague quest they now found themselves on.

All he knew so far was that the four of them were needed to see it through for some reason, though the exact reason why eluded him. If there was something out here that was so ungodly strong that it needed all of these mages gathered in one place, it made sense that at least one of the people gathered here would know what they were dealing with. If it was a monster, chances were that Solmar might be able to talk to it through his new magical gifts, maybe talk it down from whatever the problem might be. And if this turned out to just be another job asking people to eradicate some lifeform they simply did not understand, he would make a point out of understanding whatever motives it might have before engaging it. Blindly attacking anything that was different was, after all, not the kind of thing he wanted to be known for.

While I don’t know most of you, I imagine at least one of you must be knowledgeable on whatever it is that we’ve come here to do. It seems silly to ask for so many of us to gather here to just sit around and just wait for the snow to bury us.

    ❖ MONSTER HUNTER WORLD ❖ (10Y/Johann/Shane/Amalie) 3nysopW

It didn't take long for what Johann believed to be still Major Suzuki to poke his head out of the vehicle, offering a characteristically shallow, but in his own way, nice enough greeting before confining himself to the interior of the cruiser. Some time had passed since Shane's and Chiyuki's visit to Amber Island, but the two Rune Knights appeared to be in good health and at least acted the same as before, a fact that Johann appreciated. It was always a nice twist to have the privilege of being the company to reliable partners, even if Suzuki was an odd fellow. Stern, however, seemed all the more professional in the other's stead. General Stern, who had been promoted similarly to the Major General without the Ambassador's knowledge, seemed like a competent man, although Johann had yet to see either of them display their physical and magical prowess in any capacity. It seemed that that would occur soon enough. "Doppo?", the silver-haired Ambassador asked in an off-hand fashion, hearing the name for the first time. Was it perhaps some kind of nickname? "It seems the Major has been promoted then. My congratulations", he nodded to the man in the vehicle, unsure if he could even hear or paid any attention to what transpired outside, especially given the blazing blizzard that raged around them. "Regardless, neither could I, Captain. I extend the same notion back to you and your colleague". The Ambassador kept it short and formal.

Shane and the other man, who was still entirely unknown to Johann and, as the Rune Knight had made known apparently went by "Solmar", seemed familiar, though, as they quickly delved into an almost casual conversation about recent going-on's and events the God of Ishgar was wholly unfamiliar with. He didn't really listen or pay much attention to the actual topic of their conversation as to not intrude on something that was, in all technicality, none of his business, choosing to look around the area and make up his thoughts instead. The question of what exactly they were after had neither been asked nor answered yet, but Johann couldn't help but wonder nonetheless. He came from circumstances where hunting had been a pastime, whether that was in his previous life or the one after that, and though the motivations had changed, the activity remained essentially the same.

"Ah, look at you. Don't be so gloomy, vessel. I, for one, am excited to see what they will present to us, tssehehe ...", the deep, almost distorted voice of Mars echoed through his mind with the same old cackle, the Ambassador feeling the writhing stirr of the Second Seal in the back of his head with a familiar sensation. "We will see, Mars, won't we? Perhaps today will be the day you, Lord of War, find your equal?", Johann responded, the Seal scoffing in response, so absurd was the suggestion to the creature. "That's what I thought". Mars was arrogant as ever, but the God of Ishgar knew that that was most likely never going to change.

That was, however, when the stranger spoke up once again, Johann turning his head towards the unknown man with a curious look, one eyebrow raised. Although the Ambassador had no exacts, he knew the basics, that much the admittedly vague job had surrendered in terms of information. "As far as I am aware we are gathered to commence a hunt. What exactly we are hunting, I am not aware, although perhaps our friends from the Rune Knights have more information on this particular subject and would care to enlighten us?", he spoke with raised voice as to not get drowned out by the snowstorm, giving a nod to Shane who presumably still stood by them outside their vehicle. It didn't matter much to the Ambassador, either way, he was confident enough to assume that nothing they could likely encounter would present a major danger to himself, but naturally wasn't necessarily sure about his companions. For now, he'd simply await whether the other two had any intel that could help them out.

While the three men outside indulged in their hubbub, Doppo was still sipping his alcohol from inside the cruiser, boiling in the blasted air conditioning and wondering if that one bar he really liked would be open by the time he got home. Suddenly, he really wanted to go home. Ever since Doppo was young, he was always very introverted. Even with the things his mother did to neglect him and the poor setting he grew into, he naturally avoided people when there were people to avoid. As a twenty-six-year-old man, Doppo's introversion never effects his work ethic or the quality of his labor, but it does make it harder for him to interact with people like Sheldon, mister Ambassador, and the stranger, who all instantly delved into conversation almost immediately. He didn't particularly mind this dynamic though.

Mister Ambassador seemed to be talking to Sheldon, but Doppo couldn't help but overhear and feel obligated to respond. He slowly rolled down the window only so that his eyes could be seen and nothing else, "It's a Giant that tends to be found in large caves or holes, wields clubs, axes, and. . ." Doppo stopped for a second, pausing, ". . .huh. There was something else. . . something really important, but. . . I can't seem to remember it. . ." he spoke in weary lapses as his memory fleeted. Doppo was scatter-brained when it came to things like this and didn't show any signs of ever gaining a solid memory of important details. He briefly looked at Sheldon and then back down at his lap, shrugging with a sigh. "Well, whatever. . ."

The redhead quickly rolled up the window and opened the car door from the driver's side, his body that was bundled up in multiple layers now in view for everyone to see. He was shorter than everyone else and looked more fatigued by twelvefold. His big blue eyes were accompanied with dreadful, heavy bags underneath them and his perpetual case of bedhead was as terrible as it normally was, and yet incredibly clean and attractively curly. He stepped out with his arms folded across his chest, gloved hands tucked into his armpits as he stared at the group of men from across the cruiser.

Shane smiled awkwardly when he realized that all three of them standing in the snow was clueless to what they were supposed to be hunting on this job. Not equipped with the sufficient knowledge of the job to inform them, he could only turn his head to look at the vehicle that Doppo was holed up in. It seemed that out of the four, he was the only privy to the full details of the job. His right hand moved to rap his knuckles on the window but before he could do it, the window slowly opened by itself, releasing a small blast of warm air that quickly lost out to the relentless chill of the glaciers.

The soft voice of his colleague floated out the vehicle but audible enough for the others to hear. He had provided some clarity to the whole situation but it wasn’t enough.

“Whatever? Suzy…” Shane groaned as he shook his head at his colleague’s antics. They were now on a mission with the Ambassador of Dies Irae and a notably powerful mage, and yet he could forget the job. Still, it wasn’t going to be that big of a deal. At least they had a goal now.

But it was pushed back to a secondary position when a long and clear howl broke through the silence of the frozen plains. A second howl followed the first in reply, and one after another, more and more howls joined the duo until it became a full blown concert. The howls were scattered but they came from a general direction. It came from the left of the vehicle, where Doppo was seated. And then one overbearingly loud howl boomed out from the amongst them, and Shane could see the first of the creatures. He had no doubt that the others would notice them as well.

One by one, the streamlined figure of the pack of apex predators, head hung low as they skulked over the ice dune. The pack numbered almost thirty, with the leader standing at the very top of the hill with its head held high, eyes staring straight at the four mages in the middle of their domain. It was massive. The ones that it commanded were much smaller, standing at a height of six feet even with their heads lowered to the ground, while the pack leader was a monster triple their height.

“The Everwinter Hound,” Shane announced as he watched the massive claws of the creature crush the ice beneath it with each step it took. “One of the few top predators around.”

The ice wolves followed its every command and they were no less troublesome. With a sharp bark from the Everwinter Hound, the ice wolves that were formerly advancing slowly while moving low to the ground instantly perked up, standing up straight and began to charge at the small team of four. The speed at which they moved was incredible, covering the distance between the two sides so fast that the moment of collision would be in a matter of minutes.

“Doppo, get the car somewhere safe and start fighting,” Shane called out rapidly as he vaulted over the car and began running towards the approaching ice wolves. Despite his relentless calling of Doppo Suzy in response to being called Sheldon, he only did that when the situation allowed. In times of action, he would automatically revert back to the calling his friend Doppo, to prevent any miscommunications during combat.

His shield, Patriot, had already appeared on his left arm and already in his combat uniform from the get go, Shane held the shield in front of him and charged at one of the ice wolves head on, shield against snout. Most of the ice wolves charged past him towards the others, while a few had formed a circle around him. But Shane took things one step at a time. Having tackled straight into the ice wolf, the Rune Knight had managed to knock it off balance. Quickly, he grabbed the ice wolf by the tail and swung it in a circle before throwing it over to another one, knocking it down.

With his close combat abilities, taking care of the wolves were easy as long as he was careful not to get overwhelmed by their numbers. A lunging ice wolf with its jaws wide open flew at him but the Rune Knight easily ducked the straightforward attack and rose back up with an uppercut, power coursing through his fist as he crushed the creature’s jaws and subsequently sent it flipping over into the air.

Another one took the chance to attack from behind, almost catching Shane off guard but the latter turned around just in time, cramming his shield into the creature’s jaws and keeping it from biting down. The two wrestled as the ice wolf tried to remove the shield lodged between its jaws, while Shane held on. Two more ice wolves took the opportunity to attack him, but their attempts were easily foiled when Shane exerted strength into his legs and stood his ground like a mountain before swinging his left arm, shield and wolf in tow and crushed the two approaching ice wolves with the bulk of their brethren.

Without even giving the wolves he had dropped a further glance, Shane leaped backwards towards the remaining two ice wolves. Before they could break apart from one another to attack him, Shane leapt into the air and used Balsam Smash, pulling off an enhanced roundhouse kick that swept up the two ice wolves and sent them flying to either sides.

His shield soared through the air, spinning furiously with a single throw from his right hand as it struck down the first wolf that stood back up in the head, causing it to crumple back to the snow, and then struck any other wolf as it reflected off after each hit with unerring accuracy. After the shield bounced off the last wolf with a skull-cracking impact, it flew back towards Shane who caught it with his right arm and returned it to its position on his left forearm.

But it wasn’t the end of his troubles. Caught unaware, the Everwinter Hound had slashed through the air with its razor sharp talons made of ice, freezing the air as four gigantic blades of ice, each as tall as the Everwinter Hound was, rushed through the air in the direction of Shane and the others behind him. The Rune Knight hurriedly raised his shield to defend against one of the ice blade sure to hit him but he had underestimated the power behind it. Upon collision, Shane was pushed back by the ice blade and subsequently thrown off his footing. He dropped to the snowy ground and quickly rolled back to his feet, looking at the Everwinter Hound with apprehension. It had begun to make its move.

    ❖ MONSTER HUNTER WORLD ❖ (10Y/Johann/Shane/Amalie) BEwsIGz

The Ambassador raised both eyebrows when the window of the vehicle rolled down, the tired eyes of Major General Suzuki peeking through, his voice sounding out from inside, against the background of the ever-present snowstorm answering the silver-haired Rune Mage's question. Apparently, their goal was to pursue a particular kind of giant, Johann giving the Major General a firm nod. "Giants, huh?", Johann repeated, a smirk on his lips, wondering what kind of giant would require the presence of a group like the one they had assembled. Were their targets really so dangerous to justify his own presence, nevermind that of the other three mages? "Well, we'll just have to wait and see, won't we? If they really are I would be excited to test them, tssehehe ...", the Second Seal's voice was quick to respond to a question that wasn't asked, the deep echo sounding through the back of Johann's mind once again. Joh almost succumbed to a sudden desire to roll his eyes, the incessant babble of Mars, for the lack of the better term, getting on his nerves, especially given the fact that the silver-haired man wasn't particularly fond of the Seal's presence at current. "I'm sure you'll get to have the kind of fun you enjoy later. For now, will you stop getting distracted and focus on the matter at hand?", the Ambassador replied to his Seal, the latter cackling as soon as the other had finished the thought. "Whatever you say, vessel".

Before any more dialogue could occur, not that Johann was keen on continuing the conversation with Mars, a loud howl, a sound that multiplied rapidly, would interrupt them, the Ambassador of Dies Irae instinctively turning his head towards the source of the noise that was present enough to break through even the how of these icy winds. "Uh-oh, seems you lovely bunch have company, tssehe". Johann did not care to acknowledge the rather obvious comment, his brows instead inching ever-so-slightly closer together as he narrowed his eyes, attempting to spot whatever was causing this tumult. It didn't take long to make out the creatures within the snow, and the monstrous beast at the very front of the group, naturally, was a dead giveaway to their position, Shane speaking out beside him, naming the creatures. "Predators? I see ... we must've stumbled into their territory". Naturally, it was something of an unfortunate occurrence, a coincidence, really, but if the creatures were aggressive, hostile towards them, then they had to eliminate them. It was unfortunate, but such was the nature of these lands, Johann reckoned. Kill or be killed ... and indeed, it appeared that the pack was fast approaching. Johann took a deep breath, Shane already readying himself for combat and yelling a command over to his colleague, Johann turning briefly to look for the other mage he didn't know, the one Shane had referred to as "Solmar", only to realize the man was nowhere to be seen. "Really?", the Ambassador hastily whispered under his breath, his tone almost a growl, Mars snickering in an obviously thoroughly amused fashion, "He booked it when no one was looking at the first sign of trouble? How incredibly quaint, tssahahaha". Well, it certainly looked that way. No matter.

The man he knew as Captain Stern had already charged ahead after shouting his instructions to the Major General, the Ambassador intent on keeping up. Anything else would reflect badly on him and his guild, after all. "I hope you're ready", the silver-haired man spoke aloud, of course addressing the Second Seal, the Lord of War not responding in word, Johann, however, feeling the steadily increasing influx of magical energy surging through his body. Wordlessly, Johann took off his hat, removing the heavy, black coat from his shoulders, his hair, the color not unlike that of the snow around them, and the fabric of the jacket flowing in the howling wind of the Silent Glaciers as he dropped the article, uncaringly, into the snow beside him, the coat and the hat vanishing into nothing after a few passing moments. The Ambassador, now in little more than a shirt and silken, black pants, stretched out a hand at his side, a red blade appearing within his grasp with the faint shimmer of magic. On the left side of his temple, a red rune flared up, while simultaneously, on the right side, a rune of cyan rune began to glow. Johann took a deep breath, a visible cloud forming as he exhaled. "Then let us begin".

In a familiar display, the Ambassador's eyes changed, dark, charcoal hues replacing the white of his scleras, his pupils set alight with a crimson glow as he raised his free arm, closing his hand into a fist. Runes appeared along the skin of his arm, grey and blue, exerting the man's magical power in the form of an overwhelming aura that bore down on everything around, the intense hum of energy filling the air with a certain pressure. At once, the previously so noisy Silent Glaciers would actually fall silent, the howling of the wind, the unrelenting storm of snow ceasing at the Ambassador's whim, an eery quiet spreading fast, only occasionally broken by the growling and howls of the beasts. "Much better".

The beasts had not been idle while he had been busy steadying himself for the upcoming battle, however, a massive barrage of ice barreling towards him. Swiftly, the Ambassador lowered his arm, lowering his posture as he drew back the sword in his hand, and, just as the mass of ice was about to slam into him, unleashed a wide swing, the force unleashed by the attack throwing up the snow around him into a cloud of white, pulverizing the ice into nothing more than a harmless shower of shards and glistening pieces. Now immediately set on a counterattack, the Ambassador twisted the blade within his grasp, his form vanishing in a blur of lightning-fast speed. An explosion of snow, barely a moment later, erupted where one of the Ice Wolves had prowled, a spray of sanguine liquid mixing in with the soft hue of the snow, a broken carcass sent flying across the ground coming to a screeching halt not too far away.

Immediately, two more wolves turned towards the newly arisen threat, dashing towards the silver-haired mage, one on each flank, one leaping at the Ambassador to catch him by the throat, the other attempting to bite into his leg. With a single swift, almost graceful motion, the man turned on his heel, grabbing the Ice Wolf that had jumped by the neck, spinning upwards as he delivered a heavy kick to the other Wolf's jaw, throwing the creature off it's feet with a resounding crack and an audible yelp, remaining airborne briefly before the momentum of his spin carried him around, slamming the other wolf in his grasp into the icy ground below, the terrain bursting from the force of the impact. Pulling his hand back, the extremity now covered in viscous, red liquid, the man straightened himself, ready to receive the next wave of attackers. An observant beholder, at this point, wouldn't miss the subtle, but vicious grin the Ambassador's lips formed, Mars' influence gradually finding its way into the man's mind.

I will never ask for nothing that I won't give in return
You will never have to question the value of my words
    Amalie

Slowly and carefully Amalie would tread through the desolated house, the hilt of Goldbrand gripped tightly between both hands, ready to fire if necessary. As usual, she was sporting her Dies Irae uniform; the red and white jacket , decorated with gold embellishments. Her lower half sporting the red pleated skirt, white thigh socks and classic cherry red heels. Amalie had received intel regarding who would be his next target, and despite the orders of the Magic Council, she hadn’t been able to keep herself away. The council had placed a security detail on the young girl’s home, but Amalie knew that this wasn’t enough. This killer wasn’t a fool, he would find a way around it and it just so happened that he had. Girls had a tendency to be foolish, naive even, especially when they were young and in love. Amalie had looked into the target, and discovered that she had been talking to someone through her kindling app - A teenage boy who used to go to her school before moving away a year ago, an individual she was known to be smitten with. The council had written this off as harmless, but Amalie’s hunch had told her differently. After looking into the mysterious amour, she’d learned that his kindling account had only popped up in the last few months and had reached out to the target in question. It just seemed a little too coincidental.

Getting someone to hack into their private messages had been easy enough and as she monitored their ongoing exchange she had witnessed something alarming. Whilst complaining about being trapped in her home, the ‘boy’ convinced her to sneak out. Telling her that he had popped back for a surprise visit and that they should see each other. And foolishly, driving by obviously romantic ideals of time with a potential beau, she had agreed. Amalie tracked the girl to a house a few blocks away from her own, it was ideal for the killer. Currently for sale and unused by the previous owners, something else that aligned with his modus operandi.

The delay between Amalie’s and the girl’s proved problematic, meaning the killer would have several minutes alone with the girl before she got to the property. And after she entered the unlocked home, she found it to be disturbingly quiet. She had pulled her gun from her belt, stalking through the dark hallway of the pristine family home. The Commander stepped into the kitchen, eying the contents of the room. A single empty glass on the counter, residue of water still clinging to its edges, telling Amalie that someone had drank from it recently.

A distinct creak from the ceiling caused her to glance up sharply, confirming not only that someone was in the house, but that they were upstairs. Spinning on her heels, she charged out of the kitchen, running back into the hallway. Grabbing the banister, she used to to spin herself up the stairs, leaping over each step as fast as she could. Moving in the general direction of the noise, she found her way to a green door, thrusting it open at full force. Her ice-blue eyes fell on the sight of the young female, staring ahead at the sky with lifeless eyes, puddles of red stretched around her body. Her blood percolating into the carpet as it poured from the ragged gashes that plagued her exposed torso. And above her was her very own grim reaper, crouching over his prize, his blade working its way through the dead girl's stomach. He was dressed entirely in black, and his face was covered by a creepy halloween-type mask in the style of a ghoul. Without hesitation, she brought her gun up, firing off two shots with the intention to kill. He jumped back, dodging one bullet, whilst the second tore through his arm. He let out a roar in pain, pulling out his bloodied blade, he sent it flying in her direction. She sidestepped the throw, raising her gun again to fire only to witness the sudden appearance of a portal stretching out behind him. He would reach down, picking up the girl before jumping through the whirlpool of magic. Wasting no time, Amalie sprinted forward, leaping through the portal after him. There was a moment of disorientation as she found the world around her shift entirely, until she was spat out of the portals exit.

She landed steadily, raising her gun, she spun pointing it as she prepared to fire as soon as she spotted him. Except she didn’t spot him, he wasn’t there. He and the girl had vanished, and instead she was surrounded by a different group of people, in an entirely different environment. It was significantly colder, an environment she had not dressed for. Some of which she recognised, some of which she didn’t. As her eyes fell on Johann, she stared at him bewildered, twisting away to inspect the scene around her. As she eyed the frozen land, blankets of snow and dead wolf-like beasts, she realised that she hadn’t managed to follow the killer. But instead, he had used his magic to divert her completely, sending her, quite coincidentally to where Johann was. Whether this was intentional or not, she didn’t know, but she knew one thing. She had lost his trail, there was no way of tracking him now, not until she learned of his next target. And as for the girl, where unless her eyes had deceived her, she was most certainly dead.

“Fuck.” She uttered softly under her breath, feelings of frustration and anger washing over the woman. Again. Once again he had escaped her, and because she hadn’t been fast enough, the abominable stain upon humanity had claimed the life of another innocent. Amalie placed her hands on her hips, turning her gaze back to her significant other. There wasn’t any point in returning at this point, and from the looks of her, there seemed to be something particularly important going on here. “He got away from me again.” She said simply, figuring he would know what she meant. Often she had divulged her need to hunt down the vile murderer that had found himself on her radar. She glanced at the others, looking at a familiar Rune Knight she had once fought alongside some time again. She offered him a nod, “Well if it isn’t Shane Stern, been a while.” She greeted, her tone filled with a rare respect she didn’t offer out often. But she had seen Shane in war, and together that had somehow salvaged River Village from a brutal reckoning at the hand of the Bandit Army. She glanced at the other two, another Rune Knight, and someone she felt was familiar but couldn’t quite recall.

“So, Does someone want to fill me in? Please tell me it’s a fight, I really need to burn some rage right now.”

Post by DOPPO 9th May 2020, 12:16 pm

Despite being in a barren, cold wasteland, it wouldn't have been much of a monster-hunting job if there weren't any monsters to hunt. In the near distance, a choir of voracious howls filled the air with a booming crescendo. When Doppo looked over to see what had been stalking them, his baby blue eyes fell onto a large pack of something he could only describe as ice wolves, which would make sense since ordinary wolves would most likely perish in these unforgiving conditions. But regardless of their visible elements, it wasn't their numbers that stood out. Among them was a single, massive beast with flesh the color of snow and claws as thick as ice. Its eyes were small but its mouth was riddled with skin-tearing teeth and a jaw that could chomp through buildings like a potato chip. It was obvious that it was the leader of this pack, and needless to say, it was the strongest foe.

The Everwinter Hound—as Sheldon coined it, everyone watching its enormous, dangerous feet crush into the icy earth beneath them with every step. At the Hound's command, the wolves wasted no time in advancing to their prey, covering such a large distance at impressive speeds that it would be no time at all before their inevitable collision, and Doppo was already rushing to the cruiser with the keys in hand.

“Doppo, get the car somewhere safe and start fighting,” Sheldon commanded.

"On it." the redhead responded briskly, slamming the car door shut and speeding away as soon as the engine rumbled to a start, leaving a cloud of snow behind as the tires rubbed against the ground. As he zoomed away, the Major General looked in his rearview mirror with his weary eyes, staring at the impending threat rushing at them from behind. Twenty, thirty wolves maybe? It was nothing this squad couldn't handle, but what about the Everwinter Hound? Well, there was no use in pondering over it. Doppo parked the car behind an icy mound, hidden from sight, and hopefully protected by the icy feature. After that, he tucked the car keys into his coat pocket and made his way back to the group, which took no time at all for a wizard of his power.

Between the small battalion of wolves, they had scattered into smaller groups and began to pursue one person between the four of them. Sheldon could undoubtfully hold his own, and so could the Ambassador. However, there was another woman between the three of them that seemed just as confused to see them as Doppo was to see her. Well, maybe she wasn't that perplexed by it all, and while the redhead wasn't expecting to see this stranger, he cared more about the battle than her name right now, unfortunately.

Finally having the distance closed between him and his colleagues, the Major General was greeted with a group of five wolves, all ravenous and ready to pounce to kill. Looking around, he could think of a multitude of ways to deal with these beasts, but he seemed particularly indecisive of which to pick. Which would allow him to save the most energy? Which would require the least amount of effort? He began to unglove his hands while in deep thought, hardly even paying attention to the beasts that were cautiously closing in on him. But the suspense was too great, and in unison, two of the five wolves lunged at him with drooling snarls. One had gone low, aiming for his leg, and the other had leaped to bite his arm.

Their teeth sank into his flesh as they hung on him, moving their mouth to and fro and trying to rip away at the skin and tissue. One might've thought they were successful, but instead of blood running down his arm and dripping onto the snow, it was something.... black and gooey? The moment their fangs sunk into his flesh, they were greeted with the black, sticky slime that lived within the pores of his skin. It was a thick, viscous substance with incredible defensive properties, and rendered their basic attacks ineffective.

Despite having just been attacked, Doppo looked about as indifferent and lackadaisical as ever. He kicked the wolf on his leg away, sending it flying at another one at incredible speeds, and throwing the one on his arm with his other hand. The remaining two seemed provoked and worked together to lunge at him on each of his sides, but were easily thwarted by the Major General. Abruptly, just before their fangs to even graze his skin, Doppo grabbed both of their muzzles and smashed then deep into the icy terrain below, leaving cracks beneath their heads and they lied there, lifeless.

The wolves were less of a trial and more of a warm-up for what impending danger was about to fall upon the group. The Everwinter Hound whipped its claws through the air, sending four blades of ice their way. Sheldon had managed to deal with one of them, leaving the rest of them to deal with the other three.

The redhead rolled up his sleeves, revealing the thick, oozing coating of black slime covering his arms and dripping off of them like honey. After milliseconds of time passing, a thick, slimy wall of the sludge formed in front of him, protecting whoever was behind it from the incoming blade. As it slammed against the wall, it the black slime absorbed it without much trouble, sending a gust of chilling wind against Doppo from the sheer impact. The slime didn't just absorb the blast, but it began to eat away at the blade, swallowing it as if the slime itself was satiating a hunger. The redhead excelled in both close-quartered combat and defense, and so felt incredibly comfortable with the projectiles being swung at him. However, when it came to his offense, Doppo experienced... a change in character, so to speak.

"AHH!! THAT WAS FUCKING COLD!" Doppo exclaimed in a vulgar rage, his expression visibly angered compared to the indifferent, fatigued one from before. "Sick of this shit! Kill the fucking thing already, Sheldon!"

Insatiable Hunger—a magic that allowed Doppo to take all of the energy he's stored away from his constant binge-eating and spend it on raw, magical strength and the ability to transform the properties of his body to reflect the items he's recently eaten to use in combat. It was incredibly unique magic, but it also gave Doppo something like an adrenaline high, which also... amplified his personality a "bit." The quiet man had always had a temper, but with this magic activated, it was an incredibly... impossibly small fuse. With the Major General, he was either at zero or a hundred—never in between.

In Progress Re: ❖ MONSTER HUNTER WORLD ❖ (10Y/Johann/Shane/Amalie)

Post by Shane Stern 25th May 2020, 8:03 am

Having dodged an attack from the gigantic wolf made entirely of ice and packed snow, Shane could afford a tiny bit of time to look back at his compatriots. Ambassador von Weiss was holding his own with ease, as if there was any doubt in Shane’s mind that the strongest man in Dies Irae would be weighed down by a couple of ice wolves. Shane paid attention to how the man moved, performing a brutally simple fighting style that combined the use of a sword in his right hand as it slashed through the wolves. His left arm wasn’t idle as well, a trait that Shane had noticed in most swordsman he had fought against in his career as they typically only used it to support their sword with a two-handed grip or leave it at the side of their waist to grip their sheath.

Johann von Weiss fought like a war god, with a ferocity that could tame anything in his path. Shane looked around to discover something puzzling instead when he turned his attention away from Johann. Doppo had heeded his advice and drove off his car to park it somewhere safe before he joined the fray, so Shane was actually looking out for the fourth member of the team, Solmar. But instead of the dark-haired demon slayer who was nowhere to be found, a feat that could only be achieved magically since white plains stretched in every direction, and if the man had ran away on foot, Shane would have noticed it. Shane’s expression soured a little when he realized that the demon slayer had indeed left them before the fight. It was uncharacteristic of the man as far as Shane knew him, but from another perspective, how well did Shane really know the man?

But with his disappearance came a pleasant surprise. The blue-haired weapon of mass destruction was a woman that Shane considered himself well-acquainted with. They might not have known each other for a long time, but the respect and admiration that the Rune Knight General had for her was excessively high. He could ask for no better comrade in a battle.

Two wolves lunged at Shane, but the Rune Knight was unperturbed. Clenching his right hand into a fist, Shane ducked low and as one of the wolves flew over him, Shane rose up to his full height and slammed his fist into the belly of the creature, immediately arresting its leap over Shane and sent it flying into the sky with a yelp instead. It dropped back to the ground in a pitiful heap, nowhere good enough to rejoin the fight. The other wolf was met with Shane’s shield instead, the latter whacking it away with a backhanded punch to stop it in mid-air before swinging his arm in reverse, using the edge of the shield to strike the creature’s neck and snapping it in the process.

“Great to see you, Amalie,” Shane replied as he neared the blue-haired female mage. “Gotta say, it’s good to have you here. Long story short, the four of us including you now are on a job to hunt a Giant that someone needs. You gotta ask Doppo if you want the full story. And, yup, we are in the middle of a fight.”

Shane was about to speak further when he was interrupted by a loud shout from Doppo, who for some reason had experienced an abrupt change in his attitude. Shane gave the man a look with an arched eyebrow before replying with a shout as well, “I know, Suzy! What's with the attitude?”

“Well, you heard my colleague. Gotta get back to work,” Shane turned around to speak again to Amalie before sprinting back towards the front lines to join Johann. As he picked up momentum from his sprint, Shane first pulled back his right arm, pale yellow light gathering around his entire arm. The veins on his muscles were strained, bulging through the fabric of his combat suit, before the Rune Knight released the punch at the Everwinter Wolf despite their distance apart. At the end of his punch as Shane’s arm was fully straightened, the pale yellow light rushed forward from his arm, assuming the form of a huge fist of energy that continued on the trajectory of Shane’s punch and slamming into the side of the Everwinter Wolf’s head, causing it to rear up on its hind legs as it let out another powerful roar.

    ❖ MONSTER HUNTER WORLD ❖ (10Y/Johann/Shane/Amalie) ZhCAjlE

Before Johann, or, perhaps more specifically, Mars would get the chance to throw himself into the fray once more and decimate the elemental creature's further, the sudden sound of a curse off to one of his flanks, uttered by a familiar voice, would prompt the man to turn his head, eyes falling onto a sight that as much familiar as it was, given the circumstances of the mission at hand, unexpected, an instinctive and quite openly confused "Amalie?" leaving the man's lips. Admittedly, the way this situation had developed, seemingly in not much more than an instant, was nothing like the silver-haired man had anticipated at the start of the fight. "Well, well, if that isn't Anima's vessel. What an interesting twist, tssehe", the Second Seal would chirp with an amused tone, the echo dancing through the back of Johann's mind briefly.

Before he could even ask any questions, inquire why she was here of all places, or where she had come from so suddenly, she would counter the conceptual questions with a single openly agitated comment that would simultaneously serve as an explanation. They had quite openly talked about this topic before, and Johann knew where Amalie stood on the issue she had pursued for some time now. His brows would simply inch closer together, an "I see" that approached the frigidity of the snow around them being the reply he offered her. It was really quite unfortunate, that a man of such caliber was allowed to roam free due to the inactions of the Magic Council, but it would all change in time. He was determined to make some much-needed alterations to the way things were run in the world of politics, and no one, especially not the Council, would be able to offer any resistance if he got to realize his plans for the future.

    All in due time, though.

There was, as Amalie had noted, a much more acute threat to center one's anger on, Shane confirming it while simultaneously offering the blue-haired woman an explanation on the circumstances at hand, both of the Rune Knights previously engaged in a ferocious fight with the beasts, even if the one Joh knew as Suzuki, though Shane would refer to him as "Doppo" once again, seemed to have had a sudden outburst of violent rage. Of course, the two fighters, Amalie and Shane, that was, knew each other, much like Joh had previously been made acquainted with the two Rune Knights on their, well, rather spontaneous surprise visit to Amber Island. There was still no trace of that other mage from earlier. So he'd really booked it? Well, no matter. It would be best to focus on what was before them now.

"If it is a fight you seek, Commander, then you have impeccable timing. Looks like we got caught up in a scuffle with some of the locals".

Just in time to underline his point, a solid blade of ice that rose from the ground around the massive ice-monster, skitting across the frozen ground towards him as the beast unleashed earth-shaking roar after roar from its gargantuan maw. "Tch". The Ambassador grit his teeth. There was no time to stop and catch his breath. Raising his free left hand, the man would utter a command word that would prompt an immediate response from his runic magic.

    "Force".

A mere moment before the mass of ice would slam into him, the scripture that covered his hand would glow with deep violet hues, unleashing a crashing cascade of pure and unaltered kinetic energy in a blast that swallowed not only the projectile, but would split open the icy ground with a resounding, thunderous crash, fragments of ice and a torrent of snow sent flying into all directions as the attack was pulverized once again. He guessed that, as strong and imposing as these creatures were, they, in the end, were still naught more than beasts, without much of an intelligence to back their strength up. Well, frontal assaults wouldn't get them very far against the Ambassador. Bursting through the wall of snow that had been thrown up by his counter and still lingered, taking its time to dissipate fully, he would take the situation in, carmine pupils framed by charcoal darkness darting from side to side in order to assess their overall situation. The Major General was easily dispatching of the smaller wolves, just like Shane and he had, which spoke volumes about their actual strength. It seemed that their most advantageous traits were, indeed, their pack tactics and the fact that they appeared unhindered by the terrain and weather. The bigger one seemed to be an issue, though. It packed a serious punch for a creature of its size. Still, if Shane was the one to go ahead and engage the beast, then the silver-haired man would trust that he could handle the monstrosity, leaving that particular creature up to him. What would be left would be the myriad of smaller opponents which, although thinned out, still possessed the advantage in numbers. Of course, that wouldn't exactly be an advantage when facing mages of their level.

"Let's start to finish this up then, shall we? We have an objective here, after all", the Ambassador would equally address both his fellow mages and the being that lurked inside him, waiting for a chance to continue its battle. "On it", the Nephilim was swift to respond in an almost gleeful manner, the Ambassador shifting direction, in an exceptionally swift dash, barrelling through the snow towards the pack of ice wolves, the aura of magic power around him flaring up more with every passing moment.

It wouldn't take long for the man to reach the first wolf, which, driven by its instinct and unhindered by human impressions, such as fear, would lunge forward at the man, intent on finishing off the intruder to its territory with a swift and brutal bite. Johann, though, was far, far more agile than the creature, evading the attack through a quick sidestep, leaving the beast wide open. With a practiced, determined motion, the man's rapier was driven into the creature's throat. A sickly gargle echoed from its maw, it wasn't quite enough for a roar or cry, before it slumped to the cold ground, but a pause wouldn't follow. A second ice wolf was already upon the Ambassador, who let go of the sword's hilt, the weapon still embedded within the first monster, in order to dodge the next attack, ducking under the leaping bite that, if it had hit, would undoubtedly have severed his body into two halves, dark eyes following the movements of the creature that impacted the ground just behind him before spinning around for another follow-up attack without delay. The Ambassador, in one fluid motion, would use the momentum of his turn to whip around with considerable speed, though his arm would be within reach of the wolf's jaw for just a passing moment. Enough for the creature to strike, it's teeth sinking down into the man's flesh with an audible snap. A huff of pain escaped the man, though he wouldn't let pain alone deter him from continuing to fight. This was nothing compared to what he had been through before. His arm firmly locked within the bite of the creature meant that he had no means of escape, but so was the beast tethered to him for the moment, with seemingly no intention of letting him go. A broad, toothy grin spread across the God of Ishgar's face, a deep, eery voice, more akin to a growl, sounding from his lips.

"A bad mistake, little wolf, tssehe".

With his other arm, the man would reach out, placing his palm between the creature's eyes in a move that occurred in less than the blink of an eye.

    "Return to ash".

A pulse of energy would ripple through the creature's body, the previously tight grip of the jaws around the man's limb loosening as it took a step back, first it's head, then the rest of its form turning grey, brittle, before crumbling away into a scatter of ash that sunk into the snow, the grey powder quickly mixing in with the white to create a dirty smear where the wolf had been just seconds before. Johann didn't pay it much mind, instead retrieving his sword from the first wolf's body and looking down at his arm. Sanguine liquid dripped from gashing holes in his flesh, not to mention that the bones of his forearm had probably been thoroughly crushed by the bite. Perhaps these things were a little stronger than they had initially seemed? Well, no matter. Within seconds, the wounds he had sustained had closed themselves, restoring his body to its previous condition. His bones snapped back into places, the deep cuts in his flesh healing as though they hadn't been there in the first place. He was ready to receive the next attacker.

Post by Amalie 6th September 2020, 10:14 am

I will never ask for nothing that I won't give in return
You will never have to question the value of my words
    Amalie

Amalie glanced over at the redhead as he released a rather aggressive outburst following his handling of some of the wolves. Disregarding this as unimportant before returning her attention to Shane. She nodded at Shane's words, any further explanation wouldn't be necessary, they were here to hunt a giant monster and deal with any small beasts in the meantime. That was all the information she required at this point, and it seemed easy enough. All she cared about was that as long as she, as she had implied earlier got to blow off some steam. "Perfect," She replied to Johann, her eyes skimming the area around her once more. Unfortunately, it seemed that she had come in at a rather awkward point, any and all beasts yet to deal with it seemed were already being handled by the other mages. Which meant she would just have to take what was left of the spoils, if she could find any that was.

She would sigh deeply, the warm mist of her breath appearing before her, it was quite a change from the location she had been in moments ago, but Amalie wasn't too phased by the cold. She put Goldbrand away, for now, decided that she didn't feel like fighting with the gun at this moment. Especially as she was facing monsters, when it came to beasts her own magic was significantly preferable. The magic from within would shift, coaxing it's way from her centre and upward, travelling up through her throat and releasing itself in a series of articulated commands. "Shards. Flight." The two commands would reverberate into the cold air with an echo, the magic bound to them activating immediately. Around the woman broken fragments of glass would manifest, floating in the space around her, they would hover waiting for her command. All the while she would rise off the ground slightly, her movement speed amplified by the flight magic, fighting in the snow wasn't ideal for speed. She figured that pre-emptive enhancement was an suitable means to get the best out of this situation.

Amalie, there are more beasts approaching from the East. Anima's words ringing through her mind like music to her ears, alerting the woman of her own chance at a little fun. He had likely sensed her desire to fight and used his own abilities to seek out something for her to kill. A punching bag for her pent up frustrations over the escape of her serial killer. Changing direction, she would move toward the East, staying within sight of the group, but ensuring that she would be the first to meet this onslaught of new toys to play with. Moments would pass before the arrival of the newest pack of creatures, not like anything she had seen before. This was a species unknown to her; approaching on all fours, their bodies had the appearance of mountainous terrain with sharp rock-like points protruding from their crowns and travelling all the way down their spines in various size increments. Their claw like-feet bearing talons that measured at two-thirds of a foot in length. They were like oversized lizards, but much more threatening in appearance. They were only a metre and a half in height but this did not mean that they were too be underestimated. At least, not from what Amalie could tell, they were here on a hunt of their own. Their snouts pressed towards the ground, sniffing away hungrily, likely drawn here by the scent of the wolfs blood.

Amalie would swing her arm outwards, following which her shards would dart forth, like insects they swarmed on the beasts. Her shards were powerful, much stronger than normal glass, enhanced by her own magic that reinforced them. Thus meaning they could carve through most substances, even metal. But their hardened shell of the beasts made this work even more difficult for the woman, the glass hacked away at the beasts, but working away at the thick flesh of the creatures alerted them to the impending danger that was the blue-haired human. The trio of beasts charged her, belting thunderous roars as they attempted to ram her. She darted upwards out of their reach, narrowly avoiding behind crushed between them. Two of the creatures would engage with each other, animalistic rage of getting in one another's way distracting them from their prey. The third one, however, would raise it's gaze to her, looking upwards at its attacker, it would stretch open its maw wide. Suddenly a gush of frost would pour from the mouth of the beast, spraying the woman would a thick icy mist. She flitted higher, trying to get out of range, but not before some of it would coat her calves, ankles and feet. As soon as it touched her the frost would stick to her, thickening suddenly until heavy chunks of ice surrounded the bottom half of her legs. The ice was blisteringly cold and weighted, no doubt a technique designed to immobilise their prey. She would feel its weight dragging her down, growing heavier which each passing second as the ice continued to thicken at unnatural speed.

"Burn. Heal." She commanded, fire erupting at her fingers, she would point her hands towards her calves, attempting to melt away the ice before it could travel any further up her body. All the while her healing magic would attempt to counter the damage the ice was doing to her legs. Whilst this was happening she would move through the air, trying to stay of range of the claws of the beast. The monsters had changed tactics, pushing themselves onto their hind legs and swiping away at her. The immediate issue with this scenario was the multitasking required in her range of focus; concentrating on flying, healing herself, melting the ice and dodging attacks wasn't an easy task. She quickly concluded that if she didn't focus on getting out of the way of this monsters, one of their strikes would hit and she didn't fancy being torn through by their lethal talons. Allowing her fire to ease for a moment, she whipped her head around, her ice-blue gaze finding the sight of a nearby branch thick enough to bear her weight. She darted over to it, sitting herself down on the tree's arm, she returned her attention to her legs. Taking her thoughts away from staying airborne and instead focusing purely on melting the ice from her legs, and stopping its attempts to travel over her knees. The heat of her flames would stop the rise of frost, but it wasn't enough to get rid of the ice completely. The chunks closer to her flesh a little more stubborn.

SMASH! The flames at her fingers would vanish for a moment as the woman paused in order to grip onto the tree as it shook violently. Glancing down she would see that the monsters were now ramming the tree's trunk in an attempt to shake her down. She scoffed, hungry little beasties weren't they? However watching them slam their bodies into the thick of the trunk did give her an idea. With a light shove, she hopped off the branch, activating her flight once more. She moved about a metre away from the tree, turning in the air, she would bring her ankle against the tree with as much force as she could muster. The ice clinging to her crunching under the force of the blow, several chunks crumbling away and falling off her of her. It worked! Which meant if she could smash enough of the ice off, she would likely be able to melt away the remains. And this was exactly what she did. Spinning in the air, she would boot the tree repeatedly, targetting different points around her leg in order to get the majority of the ice off, piece by piece it would fall off. Leaving onto a few stubborn chunks remaining, pointing her palms at her calves once more, she would use the heat to melt off of the last bit of frost, until finally, her legs were free of the cursed ice.

It was at this point that she would return her attention to the beasts beneath her, now that she knew what to expect from them. She had come to the conclusion that the best form of extermination would come from a distance, fortunately, she had plenty of means to make this happen. Her shards would gather around her once more, more manifesting as they did so, creating an even thicker horde than before. "Torpedo." She would cry, and amongst the shards, missile-shaped formations of light would appear, their tips pointing towards the beast ready to move in at her command. She would wait until they moved into the perfect position, and with the flick of her fingers, she would rain down her spells upon them. Slamming shard and missile into the three beasts, a relentless onslaught of offensive power that would beat away at them until their dying breath.

Joining their little hunting party was a charming young woman with light blue hair and eyes, and it was clear that she seemed acquainted with everyone here, though Doppo couldn't recall ever meeting the woman. Well, it didn't really matter right now, anyway. The redhead simply took note of her arrival and went back to clearing out some of these dogs. Or, well, so he thought.

In reality, the pack of wolves that were attacking them became thinner and thinner until their numbers weren't nearly as great as they were a few minutes ago as all of them began to make quick work of them, and all that remained met their swift demise whenever they attacked either of them. If Doppo was being honest, the whole scuffle was dragging on longer than it needed to, and all the time they were spending dealing with animals he could only really compare to persistent mosquitoes could've been spent on finding their actual target.

    Thoom!

As expected of Sheldon, he didn't ever pull his punches, and after one effective strike, the Everwinter Wolf was up on its hind legs from the impact of the blow. There it was—the window of opportunity. With two of its legs off of the ground, the Everwinter Wolf lost its stability, if only for a few seconds, giving Doppo all the time he needed to capitalize on that moment.

"So noisy...!" Doppo complained under his breath, his arms beginning to transform into elastic, sticky purple octopus tentacles as the Everwinter Wolf let out its powerful cry. He held his arms forward, and the tentacles would extend forward on their own, through openings in the wall of slime just big enough to fit and cover Doppo simultaneously. In just a fraction of those couple seconds Sheldon created, Doppo coiled his tentacles around the Everwinter Wolf's hind ankles, squeezed, and then yanked them forward, pulling the beast to an unbraced descent onto its backside. A somewhat transparent cloud of frost rose from the ground as the Everwinter Wolf was sent crashing into it, and for only a brief moment, its underside was left vulnerable for Sheldon to make work of. "All yours!"

Meanwhile, while Doppo had intended on maintaining his hold on the Everwinter Wolf, it was quickly becoming apparent that that was not possible. Despite the distance between him and the beast, in which he made up for by extending his tentacles, he could still feel the lethal chill of the monster spread throughout his tentacles like a virus, freezing them. The redhead kept a firm grip on the still-recovering beast, but once he could visibly see the freezing approach him, he simply had to let go, ripping what was left of his tentacles away from the frozen extensions. It was clear that his support would have to be swift and effective since unlike Sheldon, many of Doppo's spells were extensions of his body and hands-on in nature. He didn't have very many no-touch options unless he was hurling items at opponents with brute force—although that was very well an option too.

Of course, where there was the Everwinter Wolf, there were its persistent little frost-dogs as well, ready to attack any enemy, no matter how futile. Even with only about a third of his tentacles left, he was still able to reform tips at the ends of them and send his furry enemies across the snowy horizon with his powerful whip-like launches. Wow... they really don't let up... but I'm sure once we get rid of the bigger one, they'll all disperse... I think that's how that works, maybe... Doppo thought to himself, wondering when this sort of tussle between the four of them would let up. Maybe it would've been sooner rather than later if Sheldon just so happened to strike in the right spot, although Doppo wasn't so sure where exactly this "right spot" was.

Post by Shane Stern 19th November 2020, 9:32 pm

Despite their constant bickering, Shane and Doppo had a good sense of teamwork. Immediately after his punch has forced the Everwinter Wolf on to its hindlegs as it roared in pain, purple tentacles began to writhe towards the huge wolf, binding themselves tightly around the ankles of the wolf’s ankles and pulling it from under the beast. What resulted was an embarrassing fall on its bottom, revealing plenty of openings for Shane to take care of. The Everwinter Wolf was recovering as it tried to scramble back on all fours. With a wide grin, the Rune Knight used Ultra Dash, an instant movement spell that pushed his body to the very limits. A huge cloud of ice and snow was kicked up into the air as he propelled himself at the huge wolf. His trajectory was aimed at the monster’s throat, reeling in his left arm as his shield began to glow brightly with a blue light.

The Everwinter Wolf’s instincts kicked into full gear as it sensed Shane’s incoming attack, making it even more desperate, but it was too slow. The moment Shane reappeared in front of the wolf, he swung his left arm forward, releasing a circular blade of blue light from his shield, and without any resistance at all, slashed through half of the monster’s neck before dissipating. Silvery blue blood splashed out of the wide wound towards Shane, with huge enough amounts to thoroughly cover him but the man disappeared once again from the air and reappeared close to where the other three mages were.

Some of the silvery blue blood had splashed on to him, freezing upon contact with his body but it was negligible. The Rune Knight looked back at the wolf to see it collapsed to the ground, tongue lolling out while its eyes were already glazed over as its strength ebbed away from it. The quaking in the ground and the loud thud of the monster’s collapse had captured the attention of its minions. The sight of their king dying had sunk all of their remaining will to fight, with a few howls sounding out here and there, a call for retreat. Not that there was much left of them. If they hadn’t retreated, Doppo and Johann would have obliterated the last of them.

However, their troubles were not over yet as Shane turned to look towards Amalie. There were new monsters approaching them, and they looked every bit as nasty as the wolves they had just driven away.

Shane let out a sigh as he looked towards Doppo.

“Suzy, what the hell is this place?” Shane exclaimed in exasperation as he pointed at the direction of the new lizard-like monsters with both hands.
