    Spoiler:

Aegiel scowled down at the flyer. "Housekeeping? They want to hire a mage to clean their house." He reached up, about to pin the notice back on the job board when he felt his stomach roil. Rumble rumble rumble . Aegiel winced. He'd been low on food for a few days now, and had to give half of his meager pickings to Meep. He looked at the flyer and sighed, heading for Clover. Jewels were jewels, after all. He walked with his eyes closed. He wasn't gonna get lost like last time.

He was lost. Five minutes after marching out the front end of Lamia Scale, and he had absolutely no clue as to where he was. Aegiel walked up to the nearest vendor. "Excuse me. Do you know of any cartographers nearby? I'd like to buy a map." . The little man grinned, adjusting his spectacles with a mischievous twinkle in his eyes. "If your lookin for a map, laddie, you've come to the right shop. I happen to have a couple of maps I'm ready to part with right now. That is, if you've got the jewels for 'em."

Ten minutes later, Aegiel was on-track to Clover Town. He was also broke. "I hope this was worth it," he muttered to no one in particular.

He'd made it. The small, average, kinda-boring house was squeezed in between two wood and glass giants. A small house in a wealthy area..... Suspicious, to say the least. Aegiel walked up the the front porch and lifted the doormat. The key to the house glittered up at him as if welcoming him it it's humble abode.

Aegiel was having a really bad feeling about this place.

He shoved the key in the lock, twisted, and threw the door open. He was greeted by the stench of rot and seawater, and a blast of hot air that mussed his hair as it escaped its dingy prison. And dingy it was. Ten times, no- easily a hundred times worse than the outside of the house. The furniture was ripped and soggy, the floorboards damp and blanketed with a wet carpet of mold... Aegiel took a quick peek outside to make sure he wasn't dreaming, only to have a freak gust of wind slam the door shut in his face. He gulped. "Well, that was ominous." . He could swear the house was laughing at him. "Nothing to do but get you cleaned up," he told it cheerfully. No way he was gonna let this house get to him. He got to work.

"All finished!" Aegiel exclaimed. He wiped the sweat off his brow. Now that he had fixed the old place up a bit, it didn't look half-bad. At least, the leaky roof was plugged up and the mold was gone. A shudder crept down his spine at the memory of that undertaking! but was quickly buried deep in his sub consciousness. A growls sounded behind him. Aegiel frowned. He thought he'd taken care of the pipes already?... Something wet and goobery splashed onto his shoulder, and a stench that had nothing to do with the rotting floorboards wafted its way into his affronted nose. He turned around slowly, and stared into what he was sure was the mouth of hell. "Frank?" he whispered uncertainly. The mastiff growled in response. Aegiel thought quickly. If he moved, his face would surely be ripped off. If he cast a defensive spell, it would take ages for him to subdue it. A bulge slithered silently under his shirt, stirring from her slumber. Aegiel had to act fast, before Meep got them both eaten alive. That left only one option. Aegiel opened his mouth, and breathed all over Frank's angry snout.

The beast's red red eyes bulged out of their crusted sockets, it's jaw gaped open, and Frank's legs bent in a aggressive crouch. Then the mastiff, slowly toppled over, twitching. Aegiel smiled as the last of his toxins faded dispersed, the majority of them inhaled up Frank's sensitive nostrils. "Bad doggie," Aegiel admonished, shaking his finger playfully at the hapless dog. It twitched, and Aegiel jumped a foot backwards. He sighed, shaking his head at his jittery nerves. He reached down and hefted the creature onto his shoulders, groaning. Wobbling outside, he slung the monster over the recently-swept porch and onto the dirt-filled lawn. "And don't come back!" Frank twitched, and Aegiel rushed back into the safety of the house, slamming the door shut with a bang. Meep slithered out from under his shirt and looked at him quizzically, sensing his anxiety. "Don't worry, Meep. That beast won't ever be back after what I've done to him. Probably." His gaze crept downwards at the huge paw-shaped prints now dotting the just-cleaned floor. Frank, Aegiel thought, was one sly mutt. He got to work.

Aegiel finished wiping up the last of the prints, did a final sweep of the house, and headed out the door. Frank, thankfully, was nowhere to be found. As he walked past the neighbor's mansion, he heard a crash and a scream, followed by insane barking. Aegiel walked faster.

Near the Lamia Scale Guild House...

Aegiel passed a familiar looking vendor, and stopped to take a closer look. It was the map vendor, and it appeared he had another customer. Aegiel inched closer, wondering what price the man would demand from the unsuspecting customer. "Oh, you need a sacrificial knife, eh? Well, laddie, it's your lucky day! I have just the thing for you..."
Aegiel didn't wait to hear the end of that conversation before heading in the direction of Lamia Scale. And if he was sprinting, then, well, who could blame him?

Approved! I'm cutting you some slack on your last post since all the rest are fairly over the word requirement, whereas your last post is only 7 words off (143).
