    I think the site needs Signature Spells.  Signature Spells are magical abilities that the character has mastered and as such require no effort to use.   Signature Spells have very basic effects.   Signature Spells would function like a Weapon,   except instead of swinging a sword you throw/swing a spell.

    The difference is that the Signature Spell is more directly capable.   You might be able to cleave through a stone wall with your sword/hammer,   but the Signature Spell could do,  well,  whatever you have the signature spell do.


    These effects area always direct and never complicated.   Normal spells often are capable of doing quite a bit in one usage.   A Signature Spell would be less so.  A single effect.   For example:  A beam attack (The classic signature of a dragon slayer),   a fiery sword attack,  or so on.

    These would be like a combination between Passive effects,  Active spells,  and Weapons.


    The difference between a Signature Spell and a Weapon is that A) It's more showy.  B) It will make you actually feel like a MAGE and not a WARRIOR.   C) They would have no spell slots.  The Signature Spell is all you get,  you don't get two active abilities with it.  This balances the Signature Spell's better capability with it's actual attack.   OR- They could give additional spells like a weapon does but at a lower rank.   These would be called "Sub-Masteries" (They would similarly have to be very basic,  however,  and may still require MP to use).

    Everyone would get 1 Signature Spell Slot,   however,  they could replace any item with a Signature Spell.

    Replace an Armor to get a Signature Spell:  Barrier.    Or so on.



    Imo,  this would greatly increase the function of playing a Mage and not a Warrior,  and is something everyone can benefit from and allow a mage to not be disadvantaged against those who do have weapons when it doesn't fit their character to have weapons.

    Also:   Just about every proper mage has their own "Signature Spells".   We don't have any means to do that here.  You don't have "signature spells" here.  You just have a bunch of spells you can use every now and then.  No good default attacks you can do.







    Just for fluff's sake,  we should keep the same ranking system and costs used by weapons,  but rename them as 


    "Learned"= Weak (ALL spells are considered "Learned", not Signature Spells).  
    "Studied"= Strong.  
    "Mastered"= Legendary.
    "Perfected" = Artifact.


    Signature Spells deal the same damage a weapon of it's rank would deal,  which is to say:  They deal the user's rank in damage,  just as weapons do.  Alternatively,  they could do the same damage as a weapon's spells would deal.  Which is user-ranked to an extent.

    Sounds to me(after talking in cb) you wanna level the field between those who use martial arts and swords, and those who don't. A wizard with swords can use up all his spells and still take you out, where as one who doesn't have swords or know how to fight is screwed. You want something a bit more.....convenient, to level the field. I can go for that.

    Would we be able to have any amount of "Learnt" signature spells as we can have as many weak weapons as we want?


    Regardless of the answer, this sounds like a pretty good idea.

    Learned spells are normal spells.  Spells spells.   Not weapon spells.   The Learned class there was placed to give a representation.  Weak weapons are unlimited.  But "Learned" spells are just normal spells.   You've learned them,  but you haven't mastered them.

    I completely understand where you are coming from with the whole "we are mages not warriors" thing. I get that feeling a lot, because of how jobs are set up now "weapon spam" tends to be the only way to win which takes away from the magic of things. So yeah I am all for anything that makes things more magical.
