    Alias is Helix.

A young woman with long dark hair, dressed in ripped blue jeans and a black shirt sat in the back of a train wagon. Along light-brown coat laid folded on the chair next to her with a dark blue shoulder bag on top of it. The woman looked out of the window, passed her own reflexion, at the passing landscape. Her reflection reveals a sorrowful pale face, the corners of her lips hung downwards. Her deep blue eyes were stark and lifeless yet seemed to emit a faint glow. Her eyes were surrounded by heavy cobalt coloured eyeliner.

Kaja Jelen stared through the window of the train, her head supported by her arm. She looked at the scenery that speeded by. She appreciated the sight, it was hypnotic. It was an activity where she was fully able to have a clear mind. It is as if her problems, her anxieties, just pass by. A moment without worries. It was one of the things she liked about travelling by train. You sit down, and everything is for a moment outside your control and you don’t have to do anything. Suddenly the scenery turned black and the sound of the train turned hollow. Two ice-blue eyes, with a wicked smile, stared back at Kaja while they drove through the tunnel. Her demon stared her into her very soul. For a moment she felt vulnerable, the world seemed to fall on her. Her fears and worries returned to her. Then, the light reappeared, and they left the tunnel behind. The eyes were gone. Kaja, heavy breathing, looked through the wagon for a moment. She took her gaze, a bit uncomfortable, back to the window and the meadows that passed by. “I spooked you, didn’t I?” Said an eerie voice in her mind. Omni, her demon, spoke to her. “Was it fun? I think it was funny that you freaked out. However, it was disappointing that you didn’t lose it.” Continued Omni. Kaja tried to ignore his voice, to close her mind and take in her the scenery outside. Slowly the voice of Omni grew softer and softer till it disappeared. It was the first time that she was on a train to Rose Garden and didn’t know all the tunnels. She was unprepared to drown Omni out before he had a chance to toy with her. Omni would still be able to influence her if she was prepared but less strong and he would sometimes not bother her. The reason that Kaja took the train to Rose Garden wasn’t fully by choice, she has just been accepted into the organisation called the Hidden Blades. A group of assassins, it was Kaja’s first time to work with others, but she needed contacts, and above all money. She hasn’t been long in Fiore, she had fled her country of Bosco after she faked her own death during a law enforcement raid on her hideout. Her hope is that she would be able to rebuild her life, her carrier as an assassin, in Fiore. This job she had been assigned too was with another member of the group, they had to take care of the trouble for a certain company. Their goods usually didn’t arrive at the designation of late, nor were the transporters of those lost shipments ever found. They have the task to find out what has happened and to take out those, or what is, responsible for the disappearance of the missing goods.

Kaja arrived early at the specified randevu point in a dark alley, somewhere in the middle of Rose Garden. Her partner wasn’t there yet. Kaja wore her guild uniform, something she had to get used too. She had trained with it a couple of times but still wasn’t confident that it wouldn’t get in her way with fighting. Her body was mostly robotic, except for a few organs such as her brain and central nerve system. Her robotic body existed out of tiny nanoparticles that could easily adapt to her will. There were hidden weapons build within her body that she could use whenever she needs it.

Aeluri and her feline companion Umbra strolled the streets of the town called Rose Garden, exploring back alleys, window shopping, and observing the crowds of people. The two had an insatiable curiosity about the world around them and were often caught staring by passerbys. Colors flashed as townsfolk hurried around, rushing to various destinations. The constant murmur of conversation was only interrupted by raucous yelling from merchants desperately trying to sell their wares. Large groups were not Aeluri’s favorite thing, so she and the little black cat at her side ducked into cool, silent alleyways whenever they got the chance. Dark, cold, and quiet was much preferred.

Human and feline companions got a touch of just that as they ducked into the next alleyway. The narrow passage was where they were to meet a fellow guildmate of Hidden Blades. A mission had been posted at the guild hall and Aeluri, with not much else to do, had decided to take it. Some company that was an ally of the guild had shipments arrive late or not at all, and they had asked that two mages come to watch over the next shipment and prevent any interference, no matter the cost.

The summoner wasn’t yet accustomed to how Hidden Blades mages were supposed to act and dress. She was used to dressing however she wanted on jobs without a second thought, but today she donned the guild’s uniform, sans tunic . Black cloth wraps criss-crossed her wrists, and thick combat boots covered her petite feet. The cloak and tunic sat in the bag on her back, folded neatly. Such thick, dark clothing seemed unnecessary, but Aeluri was prepared to slide into the rest of the outfit should the situation require. At least with the outfit she blended into the shadows in which she felt at home. Umbra couldn’t complain much either, as the layers provided the feline with many more hiding places.

Mismatched eyes came to rest on a figure at the end of the alleyway, assumed to be her guildmate, but one could never be too cautious. Aeluri’s senses were on high alert, higher than most thanks to her feline sense abilities. The summoner brushed off her clothes and straightened her back, making herself more noticeable than she had been while crowd-weaving. “Greetings,” she called out calmly as she paced towards the other, boots clicking on the stones below. As she approached, the other being made out to be a woman around the same height, with hair that mimicked the luscious sheets that fell around Aeluri’s own head. The woman wore a version of the guild’s outfit in pure black. The only color to be seen was the rich blue of her eyes and the makeup brushed around them.

“By process of elimination, you seem to be the guildmate I’m here to meet. They call me The Black Cat,” she added. Instead of offering a handshake the feline summoner kept her distance, sending a message of caution. Even though they were of the same guild, Aeluri’s trust was hard to come by.

Kaja heard a faint sound of boots in the distance that were going in her direction. The sound grew louder and out of the shadow appeared a young woman clad in mostly black. ”Hello,” said Kaja to the unknown woman. She noted that she did not wore the cloak, but the other parts were clearly Hidden Blade. Her eyes were amber and ruby coloured, Kaja stared with curiosity at them for a split second. She had never seen that phenomena for herself before. The woman wasn’t alone, she was accompanied by a black cat.

”That’s correctly deduced. I am known as Helix, said Kaja earnestly. ”So I’m on a mission with two Black Cats? That won’t be confusing,” she smiled modestly. Her little gag was meant to break the ice, she was by nature distrustful to others, but she was not in the position to work on her own anymore. She had uneasy with the knowledge that there was an organisation that had learned so much about her, that information could be used against her. The logical course of action was to join the Hidden Blades and make herself indispensable to the guild, that also meant working with others. The Black Cat might be wary of her as well, as she kept distance which was something Kaja didn’t mind at all.

”I have thought about the best course of action. I think the best manner to do it, is to shadow our objective rather than escorting it. We would stick out, and more importantly, be visible. I think it’s better to entice them in attacking, and we take them out without giving them the chance to back out. That should give them the message not to interfere in the future without handing them information on how and why they lost,” said Kaja candidly, she purposely avoided the word shipment and replaced it with objective. If The Black Cat wasn’t who she claimed to be then she wouldn’t have all the details. ”What do you think?”

A wry smile crossed Aeluri’s face briefly. “I suppose we are two Black Cats. I can’t tell who’s copying who,” she gave a teasing nudge to the dark feline next to her with a foot. Umbra glared up at her with golden eyes. “Ha, very funny,” the cat grumbled, his words reaching the ears of everyone in the alleyway. “Sourpuss,” Aeluri quipped back. The cat just stuck his tongue out at her.

Helix explained her plan carefully. The lack of details was understandable, however Aeluri may have been more careless were she in the same position. Anyone who was trying to trick her by pretending to be her guildmate had a death wish. If they found out the details, she would just dispose of them. She had no reason to distrust Helix, though. The woman didn’t seem shady at all. Despite a stoical air about her, Aeluri felt calm in the fact that she was a guildmate. Perhaps she was someone to work with in the future.

“Sounds like a good plan to me. A quick, merciless attack sends quite the message. They don’t deserve a reason, only the outcome.” Aeluri turned on her heel and took a few steps towards the exit of the alleyway. The feline summoner pulled her hair to one side, subtly showing the knife-shaped tattoo on the back of her neck that only she and Helix (and their guildmates) could see. “Let’s be off then! I think they said the shipment comes into town at the east gate.”

Kaja smiled at the little jest the Black Cat made. Her smile quickly evaporated as she heard the cat talk. She shook her head in disbelieve. The Black Cat replied back at the cat, not like how an owner of a dog or cat would say something to his pet. It was truly a reply, and the cat even responded back with sticking out his hairy tongue. Kaja knew there were talking cats, but she had never encountered one before. ”Your cat can talk?” Kaja looked at the cat with an angled head, scanning the animal with her bionic eyes. It just looks like a cat, she thought and shook her head ones more.
Kaja nodded approvingly, she liked that answer. ”Indeed”. The Black Cat moved towards the exit of the alley. She fumbled with her hair and Kaja’s sensors recognized something. Her eyes focussed and zoomed in on the dagger that too that was familiar to her. It made her feel safer, she knew it was nearly impossible to fake the Hidden Blades tattoo. The Black Cat was indeed one of her fellow guild members. She didn’t have to be on her toes anymore now that she was assured that she was dealing with an actual member, thoughts she would still play it safe. She followed the Black Cat towards the east gate.
They took up a position within the city wall, in an abandoned house. The house would probably collapse with the first autumn storms by the looks of it, had a great few on the eastern gate and it hides them from curious eyes. Kaja opened a rift in space, nano-particles poured out and formed into a flying device. It looked like a dragonfly with a short rear body but at the size of a sparrow. ”This little drone will warn us if the shipment arrives.”It flew away, through a room and moved towards the city-centre before going back with a large circle towards the eastern wall. There it moved towards the road that leads to the eastern gate and hovered, scanning the traffic.

Aeluri pondered for a second, then replied, “Yeah, I suppose he does talk. When he wants to, that is.” It had been so long since she and Umbra had met that she didn’t think much of his speaking ability. She was so accustomed to it that it never struck her as strange. It was understandable that strangers would be confused by a cat that talked back, especially with such sass. Umbra was truly a spitfire and wasn’t afraid to show it with his words.

“Yes I do speak! Ever heard of an Exceed? I’m not one of them cause they suck, but the idea is similar,” Umbra chirped. He had no shame, as always. Aeluri could only shake her head.

    -

The two guildmates and the tiny cat wound up inside an abandoned house. The floor creaked with each step Aeluri took inside and mice scurried into holes in the walls. Broken furniture lined the floor. A cool breeze blew in through the cracks and holes in the wall. It was a perfect place to hide as nobody would voluntarily enter such a house. “Charming,” Aeluri muttered to herself, observing the place. The woman didn’t even want to think of all the dust and grime that she would have to clean from her clothes later. Speaking of clothes, she finally slipped into her full Hidden Blades gear and pulled the hood over her head. Black locks were tucked back into the tunic and she was anonymous once more.

Mismatching eyes watched curiously as Helix caused a hole in the air to open, a mysterious nothingness lying beyond. Particles drifted from within and formed into a little robotic creature. It resembled a dragonfly. Both Aeluri and Umbra were fascinated, watching the creature buzz around before disappearing out into the city. The cat looked as if he was ready to pounce, but a stern glare from his companion stopped him in his tracks.

“May I ask what kind of magic that was?” Aeluri queried as they waited for feedback from the dragonfly. She couldn’t help herself, it was all to intriguing.

The Black Cat and assured her that the real black cat talks, at least when the animal wants too. Kaja frowned, ”Curious.” The cat had decided to speak once more. ”Yeah, I have heard about exceed,” said the dark haired cyborg, she conjured a shocked expression on her face ”but they have wings? Can you fly without wings then? That would be cool.” Her shocked expression turned into a grin. She wasn’t too fond of animals, but this cat wasn’t all too bad. Probably because this one could talk, the right way.

”I know, you could always buy this place after we are done. You only need some paint…” Kaja’s tried to open a door and the doorknob broke off along with a piece of rotten door, ”And a new door. It will be as good as new then.” She threw doorknob on a chair, so it wouldn’t make any noise on the wooden floor. ”You also don’t need to worry about food for the cat, it’s a walking buffet here.”

The vision of Kaja differed of that from normal humans as her eyes were cybernetic implants, she could see what the implants could see on a sort computer screen on her ‘irises’. In the corner of her eye she could see what the drone saw while maintaining most of her ‘eyesight’. The cyborg turned towards the Black Cat, some quick thoughts ran through her mind. Should she tell her about her magic? Was that wise? She decided after a couple of moments that it might be advantageous for them to know what their capabilities were. That way they would know what to expect from each other. ”Have you heard about nanorobots?” she said after a silence. ”Scientist speculate that those tiny robots could improve our lives and machinery a lot, but science isn’t far enough to bring this concept to life. That concept fascinated me, and I began experimenting. I didn’t exactly create nanorobots but I did invent nano-particles.” She would never tell how she created them and with what, that was a secret she held dearly. The nano-particles can be used for a lot of good as well as bad, and she did not look forward to having it be used against her at any given time. To could earn billions with her invention, she was sure of that, but there is no amount of currency that will reveal the secrets about them. ”I use them similarly as requip-mages, they are stored within a pocket-world and I can bring a portion of the particles into our world. But similar to make-mages, I can mould them into anything I want; as long as I know how it looks like and how it works. And I know how a lot of guns work.” A portal next to her opened and particles streamed out, forming a pistol in her right hand. ”It is also a bit like a rabbit out of the hat,” she looked at her favoured M1911, ”a very dangerous rabbit.” She chuckled.

She noticed movement in the video feed from the drone. A truck, akin to the description of the truck that was to move the shipment entered the view of the little dragonfly drone. ”The shipment is inbound.” She placed her pistol in a holster and moved the drone around to see if there where any signs of danger.

”Oh honey if I could fly my paws would never be sore,” Umbra replied, sending a glare up at Aeluri. The woman almost always made him walk and refused to be his perch. It was a miracle to him that his legs hadn’t fallen off yet!

    -

Aeluri let out a huff of amusement at Helix’s jest. The place might be livable if someone could completely renovate every single part of it. Certainly the neighborhood would bring down the value no matter what. If there was someone with the right magic, maybe it could be done.

“That’s true, Umbra could become a fat cat living here,” Aeluri said with a little laugh. The thought of the feline becoming ball shaped was incredibly amusing. The cat stopped in his tracks with an extremely offended look on his face. “You think I would choose to eat MICE? I have some standards you know!” Grumpily he stalked off to explore the ruins of the house to see what he could find, tail flicking angrily. Aeluri rolled her eyes and mouthed ‘drama queen’ towards Helix.

“I think I remember someone at a bar mentioning nanobots once,” Aeluri replied, then listened to Helix intently. All the information she was drinking in was incredibly fascinating. The woman was always awed by the many unique magics she encountered in her life. To think that Helix created such a complex ability on her own was amazing. Though she didn’t show it much, Aeluri was impressed.

As her guildmate drew a gun from her portal, Aeluri prepared herself as well. She twisted a silver ring on her finger that had a spider shape with a red gem in the middle. From within her robes appeared Lusa, a tiny black cat that was barely six inches tall at the tips of her ears. Eight adorable eyes shone from her face. The little creature perched herself on Aeluri’s shoulder and looked around the desolate room.

    “Perfect. Whereabouts is it?”

Kaja looked at the cat with a frown and chuckled at the cat’s reply. She liked this cat; she was sure of that now.

She wanted to reply to the Black Cat’s, but the cat was faster in his reply. She frowned and tilted her head slightly, had she heard that right. Kaja looked towards her guildmate and saw her speak ‘drama queen’ without a sound. She responded with a grimace that turned into a wide smile and giggled. Kaja looked to the door through which the cat had walked and back at the Black Cat. ”That’s a curious cat,” she whispered, hoping the cat was out of hearing distance. She checked the door again.

Kaja looked curiously at what her guildmate was doing, she donned a ring and then suddenly a small black cat appeared upon the Black Cat. She looked closely at the animal; it was bigger than a fist, but the size wasn’t the only thing that stood out. The cat seemed the have eight eyes. ”You are very fond of cats,” said Kaja as she looked how the cat moved towards her guildmates shoulder, ”What is it if I may ask?” She couldn’t suppress her curiosity.

The assassin swept her right hand in front of her, a 2D screen of neon colours appeared. ”Here take a look.” The screen displayed what the drone saw; the blue truck stopped at the gate to be checked by the guards, they could see how the window of the driver rolled down. Instead of showing an ID or papers, it was a sizeable pouch that appeared from the window. The guards accepted it and let the truck through the gate. Kaja shook her head, paying off guards was not a very bright idea. People can gain leverage over you if you did, it was something very risky in her eyes. The truck turned left, following the road next to the wall which was not the road they were supposed to take. ”We should follow,” she swiped away the screen and rushed to the empty alley behind the building.

The trucks stopped at a small parking lot. Most of the buildings, if not all, were abandoned here. There was another truck, white of colour, at the location with a group of armed people. They had nearly caught up with the truck, now that it stood still. They were able to follow the alley but there was a 2-meter wall between the alley and the parking lot. Kaja stopped at the wall, it wasn’t necessary for them to look over it to see what was at play behind bricks. She reopened her screen, just in time for both to see how they moved the shipment from one truck to the other. ”It doesn’t seem they get robbed but are in league with them don’t you think?” There was nothing that suggested that the drivers were forced, especially as they had taken a different route. ”We should ask that them ourselves,” there had been two men who had driven in the blue truck. She uses her internal commands to assign orange squares above those two men. The others gained a red triangle, a total of twenty-five people had been given a tag. In Kaja’s HUD appeared a target list with twenty-five targets; they were simply named as target and were assigned a number and the status ‘active’. ”Those two should we capture,” two smaller frames appeared with a close up of both their faces. The cyborg executed an analyse of all the opponents; some of them were armed with magical pistols, others with more primitive melee weapons like swords and maces. But there were also a couple that people that stood out because they did not have any weapons on them or at least they were not visible. Experience had taught her that those were usually the biggest threat, they were mages and were less easy to predict as it was unknown what kind of magic they used. An additional tag besides the red triangle was an exclamation mark. The assassin conjured a P90 personal defence weapon, she favoured this weapon for its compact size and high capacity magazine of body armour penetrating munition. ”Ready?

She looked at the wall in front of them and studied it for a second and calculated its weak points. She punched the wall quick and hard at a few places, nocking over the top 1-meter. Allowing them to quickly move over it as well as giving them cover from enemy fire. One might have expected her hands to break with such actions, her hands did suffer but not as badly. Her skin was ripped open but rather than showing red of blood and white of bone, it was a blue-metal colour that was shown underneath. It was the titanium frame of the cyborg's body. The skin quickly moved back into its original positions, as if had not been damaged. They had now full few on their targets, Kaja’s HUD showed all the markers and tags above the opponents. She brought the stock of her rifle to her shoulder and aimed for the closed threat, someone with a red triangle and an exclamation mark.

”He’s an odd one for sure,” Aeluri whispered back, looking fondly after Umbra. He would busy himself with exploring while the two completed their mission.

“I am of the opinion that cats are the best companions,” she replied to Helix, giving Lusa a little scratch on her tiny head. An almost inaudible purr came from the little spider cat. “This is Lusa, she’s some sort of spider-cat hybrid. She is one of the many felines that I am able to summon, that is my magic,” Aeluri explained. “Lusa helps increase my speed.”

The two women watched on the screen Helix had created as the truck driver handed over a bag of money. The vehicle starting going on a route that was not its intended one. Aeluri’s brow furrowed. Were they given false information about the shipment? The drone continued to follow the rogue vehicle as it made its way to an unknown location. Helix removed the screen and began to leave in pursuit. Aeluri was left to follow behind.

The two had followed the truck to a point where it rendezvoused with another truck that was white. They watched as the cargo began to be transferred between vehicles. It seemed the driver had been working with the armed guards to steal away the shipment. “Yes,” Aeluri agreed, “It looks like our client has been duped multiple times. We should show these fools their mistake.” She watched as little icons appeared over all the people in the drone’s view. Red for the armed guards and orange for the two they intended to capture. There were a few enemies that did not wield weapons, so it was safe to assume they were mages. Aeluri decided to target those without guns and leave Helix to deal with them. “I’m ready,” she said with a nod. “I intend to target those without guns.”

Mismatching eyes watched curiously as her companion observed the wall, then punched the top section off, allowing their forward movement. She caught sight of Helix’s torn skin, underneath which was… metal? Upon closer inspection, it was a blueish steel. How odd. Just who - and what - was Helix?

As they hopped over the wall, Aeluri took a second to pick out her first victim. A mage stood out to her. He wore a black tunic and pants, but the skin on his hands was a glowing white. He seemed to be the strongest of the mages present. An armed guard conversed with him and the two seemed relaxed. The woman smirked. It was time to disrupt their little chatter fest. Using the speed Lusa had given her, she ran swiftly around the side of the truck. It was easy to predict that the man would sense her magic aura and give pursuit. He rounded the corner of the truck with a glare on his face. “Just what do you think you’re doing, lady? You shouldn’t be here!”

“Oh, shouldn’t I? My bad,” Aeluri replied with a coy laugh. Then she charged. She managed to land a few hits before her enemy could come to his senses. His hands began to radiate heat that singed her skin as a punch just grazed her cheek. “That’s not nice,” she chastised, shaking a finger in disapproval. The man let out an angry grunt and resumed his attacks. Aeluri was able to dodge most of them, but a poorly timed step led her to receive a kick square to the chest. She fell backwards and skidded across the ground, passing the end of the truck and into the view of the other mages. With startled cries they began to run at the hooded woman.

“Oh dear,” she sighed loudly, “You guys just had to make me do this!” Another ring was twisted on her finger, this one was shimmering gold with a symbol in the middle. From the shadows underneath the truck climbed a giant white feline. Two heads sprouted from its shoulders, their massive maws opening wide to reveal sharp teeth that dripped with crimson saliva. “Gemini, my precious one,” Aeluri hummed, “Why don’t you teach these interfering fools a lesson?” Both massive heads nodded and snarled at the approaching mages, who had already begun to hurl spells at the creature. The cat began to pick them off one by one, jaws snapping and launching bodies into the air.

Meanwhile, Aeluri returned to her battle with the hot-handed man. His fists were becoming so scalding that she could see the air shimmering around them like a mirage on a hot day. She would have to be careful not to get burnt. They began to duel once more, Aeluri landing more hits than her enemy. A punch was blocked by her forearm, which she could feel burn her skin through the magical material of her outfit. The summoner recoiled with a hiss. Just as she was about to go back in, Gemini leapt over the truck in one swift movement and snapped up the man. It had finished fighting the other mages and left the littered bodies behind. With two chomps from its gnarly jaws, the enemy was defeated.

“Good kitty!” she cooed at the massive creature, her tone seeming out of place for such a wicked beast. A rumbling purr left the barrel-sized chest as Gemini dropped the body. Aeluri gave it a scratch under the chin before looking around to see how Helix was faring.

Kaja looked at her mission partner and her curious looking cat. She had never the experience of living with a cat or dog, or any pet, when she was young. She tried to win the trust of street animals, but she had never been able to win their hearts. Kaja had an affiliation with technology from a young age and had crafted a simplistic robot cat from parts she salvaged from garbage or stole as she was not always able to find the right components. The little Kaja had experienced little joy out of her cat robot, her father smashed it during one of his drunk rages a few days after the completion. It was never repaired, nor did she ever make a new robot cat. ”Okay, hello Luna.” said Helix almost forced. ”That’s a magic I have not heard of before.”

“Indeed, we should.” Said kaja assured. She looked at her companion, ”I am ready as well. Copy, that is fine.”

Kaja brought the stock of her rifle to her shoulder and looked down the sights, targeting someone with an automatic magical gun. She jerked the trigger thrice, a hail of nine bullets ripped their way through the man’s body which dropped to the floor before he had a chance to know what was going on. Another opponent armed with a scatter gun ran after the lightning quick Black Cat. Four trigger pulls and twelve bullets later, and this one bit the dust as well. Shrapnel of brick and cement of the shortened wall went flying around her as they returned fire at her position during her last salvo. She noticed in a glance that one of them used the door of a truck as shield, shooting from behind it. She removed the magazine of her rifle and threw it away, it disintegrated into a heap of purple pink dust. She conjured a new magazine from a portal, these rounds were armour-piercing. These bullets had no issue ripping through the metal door, the downside was that they dealt less damage to soft targets. She brought the view of her drone before her eyes, there was one person to close to her position. The dark-haired assassin came up from behind her cover and fired two salvos of three bullets at closest target to suppress his actions. Kaja turned towards the truck and fired fifteen rounds through the door. A scream of horrified surprise and pain was heard.

The assassin looked how her companion was doing; The Black Cat seemed to handle things fine and was aided in her combat by yet another cat. One with two heads this time. The drone feed showed her how one of the robbers was crawling around the truck with a magical scattergun. Kaja took her pistol in her right hand and aimed it at the rear corner of the truck, while she was still looking at how the two Cats were fighting. Any second now, and the gunner would appear into the sights of the pistol. She carefully looked at the drone images. Four times she squeezed the trigger, releasing a hail of bullets at the gunner without giving him a chance to react. The body fell to the floor and Kaja was already analysing a new target to take down.

Peeking around the side of the truck, Aeluri made eye contact with Helix. The other seemed to be faring quite well. The summoner spotted bodies littered around with blood dripping from bullet holes. A few gun-wielding enemies still hid behind truck doors, but the raven-haired woman was confident that her guildmate could take care of them.

Aeluri had to duck swiftly behind the front end of the blue van as a spray of bullets flew towards her. They dinged off the metal of the vehicle and caused dirt to fly up in little puffs where they hit the ground. “Hey!” a voice cried towards the shooter. “Don’t hit the truck, dumbass! We still have to drive the shipment out.” Aeluri sat up high enough that she could see over the hood. Crimson and gold eyes caught sight of a man in a tattered blue jumpsuit. Immediately she recognized him as one of the targets to which Helix had assigned an orange icon on her screen. He was gesturing angrily to one of the remaining gunners, who looked guilty.

“Sorry, sir. I’ll try to be more careful,” he stammered. Spotting Aeluri, he raised his gun once more but didn’t shoot. The woman stared him down, amusement filling her. She was safe from him as long as she was close to the front of the truck. Frustration could be seen on his face as he came to the same realization. The enemy began to move from his cover, attempting to reach an angle from which he could shoot at Aeluri without damaging the truck. The summoner moved in sync, staying close to the vehicle.

Soon, she reached the end of her cover and ducked around the back of the truck, using the open back doors as cover. Gemini followed closely, eyeing the gunman warily. The beast was huge and intimidating, but was still susceptible to bullets, as was Aeluri. It would not attack without a clear advantage. The gunman would round the side of the door with his gun up, ready to shoot. However, neither Aeluri nor Gemini were to be seen. The woman crouched on top of the truck while the feline had submerged itself in the shadows under the truck, four eyes peering from the shadows. “Huh?” the gunner said in confusion, only to be grabbed by the ankle by Gemini’s sharp teeth. The beast pulled him under the vehicle as he shrieked in fear. The cry was silenced and the only remains of the man was an abandoned gun on the gravel.

Aeluri leapt down from the truck roof in front of the orange-marked target and gestured to Gemini. The giant white cat emerged from the shadows and used its two mouths to rip a tire clean off the vehicle. The feline sat down at Aeluri’s side, the tire clamped in its mouth like a dog holding a frisbee. “Oh no,” the woman cooed at the jumpsuit-wearing man. “It seems your truck can’t go anywhere now. What ever shall you do?” Her head tilted as she acted like she was thinking, mocking the man in front of her. “Oh, I know! How about you surrender?”

The man glared at her. “Fuck you! I was going to make bank from this heist!” he shouted angrily. It seemed the man was magicless, but he still advanced menacingly towards Aeluri. She stood her ground, one eyebrow raised with a smirk on her face. “I’m gonna-” he began, but she put a finger to his lips. “You’re gonna what? Kill me? Not likely,” she replied. Another ring on her fingers was twisted, and from the man’s shadow appeared another cat. This one had wide, blank eyes that stared with no emotion, yet tears leaked down his cheeks. There was no sadness in him, yet he was eternally cursed to cry. This was Lucky, called The Hellish Tears by his kind.

From the tears bubbles began to form. They appeared like normal bubbles, but grew bigger and bigger over time. The jumpsuit guy whirled around to look at the cat and the bubbles. “What the fuck?” he cried, struggling to process the strange sight before him. He went to kick the little cat out of the way, but one of the bubbles encased him. The man was unable to escape and pounded on the wall of the bubble furiously.

“Stay put now,” Aeluri said to her prisoner with a huff of amusement. She reached down to pat Lucky on his head. The cat just stared. Black hair swished as Aeluri shook her head at the feline’s haunting gaze. Of all her summons, Lucky made her a little uneasy. He had proven loyal and strong, but only ever stared with his teary eyes without speaking.

Aeluri made her way cautiously back to Helix. It seemed there was very few enemies left and only one more target to capture for questioning. The final orange-marked man was nowhere to be seen. “Could you get your drone to find the other driver?” she queried to her guildmate. “I can go capture him if so.”

Kaja jumped over the rouble of the brick wall and sprinted to the truck, at which she had been shooting, with great speed. There were still a couple thugs shooting from behind a, with algae and moss covered, car. The android used the truck as cover and looked for an opportunity to strike as she kept a finger on the trigger, ready to squeeze a volley of bullets; a hail of certain death. A sudden burst of bullets ripped through the metal of truck, leaving behind a zigzagging trail of ridged holes. The gunmen had fired over the trunk of the car without looking, to supress her. She might not be able to see them with her own ‘eyes’ but her drone showed her how one of the gunners ran to a different car, they were attempting to encircle her. She would not stand for that and quickly set her mechanical brain to work for a plan, she instantly knew that the bullets of her rifle wouldn’t be able to pierce through an entire car, but she could avoid the car entirely. She dropped on the ground and aimed through the sights at the exposed legs of the first gunmen which were visible underneath the car. She fired a single burst, the bullets tearing through his flesh. The gunner fell with a scream down on the ground, the second gunner looked up at his mate. Kaja disappeared in a vapor of pink particles, only to reappear in a puff of purple behind the second gunner. She dropped her P90, which was caught by the sling that hung around her shoulder, and grabbed her pistol. She grabbed the men firmly by his throat from behind and pressed the barrel of the gun against his side of his head. She squeezed the trigger and the felt struggle stopped, the body collapsed and fell on the ground.

The Black Cat called out to her as she walked away from the body towards the wounded gunner. ”Sure thing,” shouted Kaja back, who gave an order to her drone; which was by now low on battery. The assassin closed the gap between her and the gunner, whom seemed to have heard her steps; he stopped winning for a moment. “Please, help me! I want to…” A loud bang was heard, silencing him. ”I do not care,” said Kaja solemnly. There was still one thief left, hiding within a truck and she walked to wards it. The doors of container were closed from the inside as they didn’t open when she pulled at one of the doors; she gave a firm tug and heard a piece of steel explode, followed by a rattling impact of a chain. She swung open the doors and a man came at her screaming the air out of his lungs, he wielded a sword kept it at all times in front of him. Kaja quickly fired two rounds, one at his right shoulder which made him drop his weapon; the second at his left leg which made him tumble and fell facedown just near the edge of the door opening. Kaja dragged him out by one of his arms while the man was screaming in pain and pulled her towards the other prisoner, whom the Black Cat had caught.

Helix approached with the second target in her grasp, dragging him along the ground. Aeluri gestured with her fingers at the bubble encasing the first target. The strange capsule floated towards the second captive and sucked him in. Their two targets were at last in the women’s clutches and the shipment breach had been overturned.

Aeluri rested a hand on Gemini’s white fur after making sure she found a patch with no blood. Another purr rumbled forth from the massive feline. She waited for Helix to approach. “Should we turn them in to our client?” the summoner queried. The men looked fearful at her words. “N-no! He’ll do awful things to us!” The other voiced similar protests.

The dark mage leaned forward and stared piercingly at the man within the bubble. “Do I look like I give two shits? I’m here to get paid,” she snarled in reply. Her tone made the two men quiet down and stare at the hooded women with fearful eyes.
