[Chapter 2 of the Exotic Flower Retrieval Arc]

This had started out as a great day. Any day that his squad was together working on something, Theo was a happy boy. On top of that, they were searching for something hidden, which activated his treasure hunting instincts. Sure, it might not be tomb raiding for valuables, but this exotic plant was important to Lester, therefore it was just as valuable as any precious metal or jewel. That, and the last time he and Rin had headed out alone to fetch that blood flower from the haunted castle, they had almost died. He still felt really bad about failing (but not so much about the making out after), so this was time to make up for it!

Except for the fact that as they had climbed the paths of the already treacherous mountain sides, it got colder and colder. While that wasn't too out of the norm, given thinning atmospheres and the dropping temps of the higher elevations, but this was a bit...extreme. It had been quite comfortable just a few hundred meters ago. Now the winds were wildly whipping at them, pelting them with the beginnings of hail and snow. Theo cast an upward gaze, seeing churning clouds of billowing darkness overtaking the formally clear blue skies. It was even darker ahead, and seemed to be rapidly spreading and gobbling up territory like a starved dog does a downed deer.

After a body wracking shiver, a frowning Theo called over the wind to his other squad mates. "This doesn't look right...or very good. The weather didn't say anything about this!" the man tried not to whine, but it really was quite uncomfortable. The path evened out and widened into a forested plateau, leading the man to search for a cave entrance or crevice large enough to get into for shelter. It wasn't bad now, but this random blizzard almost howled promises to be completely awful. Even as they walked on, everything seemed to turn to gray around them. A powerful gust of wind knocked off a loose limb, whacking Theo in the head just before a chilling torrential rain began. "Ow...GAH! This sucks!"

After the last incident he had felt a little bad, both Rin and Theo had gotten into a rather tight spot and well, neither of them had fared well. Yet the plant was one that wasn't exactly common, it had properties similar to that of a chameleon or octopus. He had found a very small sample of dried power, the extract of one. Even in its aged condition after decades or even centuries of being trapped in a tight small jar kept in the vault of a museum for generations the powers it held were still potent. It had resulted in two of his best creations. Who knew what wondrous abilities a freshly plucked bloom would hold. Perhaps he could even cultivate one, perhaps. Would they even do well in a captive environment? Perhaps if he could emulate these conditions exactly, it would take a while to grow of course. Oh the wondrous bud, when finally located would be an adorable addition to his collections.

This would be more of an expedition of sorts, just recording the plants in the area, taking notes of conditions, temperature, weather. Well that was only if they found the flower which continued to elude them, oh it would be so nice. Of recent the only things that had sated his thirst was the small notebook which was often kept on hand. Something new, some progress, he needed it before all rationality left him. Last time that had happened, well, waking up in a pool of your own blood only to find that it had all been replaced was not the most fun activity. Defiantly a 0/10 feedback for guests.

"Theo this weather is really weird, we don't have time to go back down, seek shelter and stay together. Rin come on stay close."

His own scarf tightening around his neck Lesters eyes widened as their raven haired partner got head booped by a stick. Rain suddenly started, it rained down in sheets, tremendous amounts of water falling from the sky. Dashing forward his hand moved to cover Theo's head, checking the injury softly before meeting his eyes. "Does it need healing or will you be okay?" Whilst it didn't appear to be too damaged he was never sure of peoples pain thresh holds as many tried to be strong and wouldn't admit their pain. Perhaps he was just a little overprotective after the last time he had asked these two for help with plant stuff.

Shelter, eyes scoured the landscape, Rin could make them something but if there was something natural close by that would do. The terrain was rocky for sure. "Rin, can you find us some sort of shelter. Just for a short while even just an overhang or ledge out the way of water and mudslides?"
He too let his eyes adventure the skyline above them, hoping to find some sort of dry area which was proving rather hard indeed.

Boy was the wind strong! Being a small girl, Rin was having quite a hard time not blowing away, becoming nothing but a speck in the grey sky above them. But no. Somehow she managed to keep herself planted on the ground. Thank god for gravity, amirite? “I’m trying to keep up! S-sorry!” The pink haired mage yelled over the raging winds. It was hard enough to keep up with her teammates as it was, but the storm really wasn’t helping at all! Picking up a jog, Rin tried her best to approach the two males who walked in front of her. If she got left behind, she would surely get lost. Linking arms with Lester, she ensured that that wouldn’t happen!

Soon after catching up, rain began to pour down heavily, slicking her peach colored locks to her head. Well... At least it wouldn’t be annoyingly blowing in her face now that it was weighed down by the water. But on the other hand, now she couldn’t really see where she was going. How was she supposed to help find shelter when she could barely keep her eyes open? Placing a hand above her rose tinted hues, she attempted to shield them from the onslaught that assaulted them. This was a lot harder than she had expected! (that’s what she said) Letting our an exasperated sigh, she mumbled a quick “That’s it...” before rummaging in her bag and grabbing the trusty tablet that never left her side. This was just going to have to do for now. Unwinding her arm from Lester’s, she extended it in front of him, signaling for him to stop for a moment. Time to draw!

Scribbling on the screen, she drew something she thought would help for the time being. Until they found shelter, which would hopefully be soon. As soon as she finished, she extended her free arm once more, catching the item in her grip as it appeared. But unfortunately she hadn’t anticipated how heavy it was going to be.

“OH GOSH! H-HEAVY!” She cried out as the giant umbrella weighed her down. She didn’t mean for it to be THIS big! (That’s what she said again?) Sure, it needed to be a big umbrella to fit all 3 of them, but this was too much! “C-Can I get some help with this?! It’s uh... W-WHA-“ Before she could finish her sentence, the wind decided that her earlier daydream about being blown away was going to come true. Like right now. How nice of it, right? With a giant WHOOSH, the dainty girl was lifted off of the ground by the umbrella, blowing away as if she had weighed nothing at all. Sure, she had wanted to get to the top of the mountain, but not like this! “H-help!” Clinging to the umbrella for dear life, the young girl floated away, like Mary Poppins or something. But much less graceful.

"I'm alright..." Theo grumbled, waving off Lester's potential fussing over his usual unlucky bangs, bruises, and scrapes. His own hair was also soaked into his eyes, making the search for shelter that much more annoying. He smoothed his bangs back as much as possible, feeling like some sort of slick-haired mobster.

The roar of the worsening wind, rain, hail, and snow kept him from hearing much from his companions. If he hadn't glanced back every minute or so, the WHOOSH around him would make him think he'd gotten separated. They key to survival during these things was keeping together, finding shelter, and keeping warm...but no sooner did he think that did he hear his girlfriend shriek. Heavy? What was two heavy? A house he hoped. That would be the perfect thing to draw, but surely she hadn't been standing under where she summoned it. She wasn't a witch that deserved a house dropped on her! Plus, there were not ruby red slippers to gain for passage home! It'd be wasted...

But no, Rin hadn't summoned a house or shelter. Bless her heart, she'd thought an umbrella in a blizzard would be a good idea! Good thing he didn't love her just for her brains! "RIN!" he called, none of his sentiments needing directly voiced since his facial expressions had them all covered. Running forward, he used his jello traits to do a powerful jump. He launched high into the air, catching the peachy girl around the waist. At first he panicked, thinking his own weight combined with hers still wasn't enough to ground them, but slowly the descended...but not quickly enough. They were heading closer to cliff! Taking one arm carefully from around her, he lifted one hand in the shape of a gun, firing a few jello shots at the umbrella, hoping to destroy it. Maybe that wasn't his smartest idea, though. They were still quite high in the air...maybe they were a match made in derpiness. "Ah, Lester! Can you make something soft to land in? Or something? HALP!" Theo called over the storm, hoping their snowy-haired friend that he could no longer see in the white out could hear them and come to save them from a nasty fall. If not, at least Theo could angle himself to absorb most of the impact for Rin should they have no choice but to plummet.
