    "I was only mostly dead."

Jeez, of all the types you had to be, you had to be a crybaby.

A few instances flashed in his mind. There were two demons, one taller than the other, identical in looks. They clashed in several flashes, one of them easily gaining power over the other. The two of them held still for a moment; the shorter of the two was panting frantically, a grievous wound gushing in his left gut area. The other one seemed perfectly content, with only a few drops of blood leaking out of his chest. The taller one finally made an offensive move, seemingly going in for the killing blow against the shorter, more wounded one.

With a sudden gasp, and his eyes opening wide, Deniel sat up on his bed in alarm. He panted frantically for a few moments, recognizing that what had just happened was only a dream. His breathing softened itself, and his pulse began to return to its normal state. He placed both of his palms right up against his face, rubbing it gently to try and wake himself up before stretching his arms out. With a quiet yawn, he slid himself off of his bed, and stretched his limbs out. The day was nearly going into the afternoon; he slept longer than what he had initially anticipated, but that was no issue to him. The days were long, as he didn't have a whole lot to do. He had only one objective at this point, and that is why he was where he was at: Crocus. He came here for the sole intention of hoping to find one of the many Wizard Saints, and see if he could gather as much information about them as they could. Ever since coming back from the dead, at least that is what it seemed like to him, his only effort thus far was to garner the current situation of Fiore's Legal and Dark Guild system, as well as the status of the Wizard Saints. He had no intention of joining the system, or getting involved too much, but part of him wouldn't let it go. At the very least, he felt he needed to know what had happened since his demise.

The only other morning routine he had to go through was one he always knew how it would end, but it was always worth a shot. "Black Devil." He closed his eyes once more, and attempted to focus his Magic, his rage, and his wrath. These emotions coupled with his focus would ideally transform his body into that of a scaled demon, but alas, nothing had happened. Just like the time before that, and the time before that... and the time before that. Ever since coming back from the dead, he found his Magic and power almost entirely stripped from him. He had been secretly hoping it would come back to him somehow, that this was just a temporary side effect of... whatever had happened to him, but alas, he was losing hope. Back on the important matter at hand, there was somebody in Crocus he needed to find... hopefully, anyway. Apparently one of the Wizard Saints was rumored to be traveling here sometime this week, but aside from a name and a face, that's all he had. So the most he could do was roam around an enormous capital city and hope he would find something. It certainly didn't sound optimistic, but he didn't have much else to do in the meantime; at this point he didn't know what he should do.

Once he was out and about in the streets, around half an hour after actually waking up, he started to remember one of the skills he hadn't lost as a mage, a sensory one. He kept this open above all else; if there truly was a Wizard Saint here in this city, then they would be giving off a magical aura stronger than most, unless concealing it. As he walked past the many people in Crocus, he kept both his eyes and his other senses open. If he was lucky, then this Wizard Saint wouldn't hide her Magic presence all that much, and he could find her within the hour. If he were unlucky, then this would take a very, very long time.

    Leila Vergious  ❃  S-rank  ❃  Silver Wolf
Through the city of Crocus was walking a perfectly regular human being. Or at least that’s what Leila was hoping people would think. Unlike her regular appearance that had boasted a pair of wolf ears and a fluffy tail, she had adjusted her own physical body in such a way that it would be no different from a regular human. It was no difficult task, considering that she once looked like this and the now known appearance of the Saint of Eden was actually fairly recent. But as far as major changes went, that was about it. The rest of her body was still mostly the same.

The usual absurdly long silver hair, blue eyes, and an athletic figure. Her outfit was also different, much more casual and consisting of a simple shirt with short sleeves of black color and a shorter skirt of a pink color. Complete with thigh-high socks of black color and white sports boots, she actually seemed to fit into a certain group of youths pretty well. Still, her disguise was far from perfect. Honestly, she was not actually trying to disguise herself at all. Just adjust her appearance enough for regular human beings to disregard her while those who would know her still actually knew who she was.

Still, I feel like you are underestimating the humans you like so much just a little bit too much…” A voice spoke inside of the girl’s head, one of her celestial spirits. “There is no need to worry about anything. Humans are easily dumb enough to fall for such simple tricks.” Another voice, another spirit. It seemed that the two of them were of fairly different opinions on the matter, but the actual summoner hardly cared. She already passed through the main gate to the city earlier and everything was fine so far.

She wasn’t even concealing her magic to the point where it could not be sensed at all. Right now, she just appeared as perhaps a bit stronger of a mage that was on their vacation. Which Leila kinda was. She had enough of the contracts coming her way non-stop, so she decided to take few days off where she would not work as a mage. Just going all around Fiore and enjoy the different places she had visited in the past. Nostalgia was often a very strong factor with this silver-haired maiden, so there was no surprise she’d be doing this rather than relaxing somewhere on a beach.

What are we doing here anyway? Seems like just a city that’s full of people at all times. Nothing fun about that. Let’s go somewhere more nature-y~” The first spirit complained. And honestly, it was not a bad idea. Even though her magic now worked as summoning, for the most part, Leila was still a nature mage at her core. So being in her element was naturally the best possible position for her to relax in. Buying herself a crape at one of the stands, she decided to head toward the nearest park of this city. Wasn’t too far away.

Though it was still no easy task to be moving through these hordes of people moving in all directions. Honestly, trying to remain undetected by the common citizens was rather inconvenient at this very moment. If she were to use her magic, Leila could have easily flown over the streets and landed again only once she would reach the actual park. But like this, she had to sacrifice pretty much all of her personal space for few minutes and try to fight her way through the crowds without losing her sanity. Thankfully, it seemed that it was about the time that a lot of people started going home.

And with the streets a bit more clear, she had no longer feared for her own life, in a more metaphorical way. Though as she walked, she started getting little too focused on the treat in her hands and actually bumped into someone on accident. “Ah, apologies!” Looking over, she saw a pretty tall dark-haired individual. One a fair bit taller than herself. Other than that, he looked like a fairy standard young adult. But the girl still stopped dead in her tracks, staring at him. It was because of one of the spirits speaking directly to her. “This man… there is something little strange about him.

    "I was only mostly dead."

"Jeez... this is harder than I thought, eh Nidhogg?" What followed from that statement aloud was nothing. There was silence, at least in his mind, and that was the most unexpected part about it. The only response he got was a confused person passing by looking in his direction, assuming that the man was just mad or talking to himself for no apparent reason. He felt his heart sink in disappointment and despair once more with the lack of a response. Things were for the best this way, but it was nonetheless unfortunate to lose what was easily his best friend. Nidhogg... His moment of self contemplation nearly deterred his thoughts completely on what his original task had to be. He caught himself standing still and staring at the ground for just a moment until he snapped himself back into action, more rejuvenated and determined than before to find this... Wizard Saint.

After just a while longer, he found himself literally making zero progress to finding her, and decided it was perhaps time for him to take a break and perhaps gather this thoughts once more. There's got to be an easier way to go about this. A break and a chance to clear his mind would do him nicely, and there wasn't a better spot he could think of than the more quiet and peaceful portion of Crocus--the park. Fortunately for him he wasn't far off from its location, so it didn't take him long at all to reach it. He shoved his hands into the pockets of his short-sleeved jet black denim jacket, looking off to the side as he walked with a glum expression on his face. Regardless of what happened or how he felt, he still couldn't help but feel defeated in all of this in the end; it was nice to be living and breathing again--and knowing that the threat he died to once before was no longer there--but it wasn't the same for him in many different regards.

His small train of thought was suddenly interrupted when somebody had bumped into him--or perhaps it was he that pumped into them. He was pulled back to reality as his eyes looked down into who exactly it was he bumped into--a young woman, perhaps a bit younger than him, with blue eyes and silver hair. His red eyes gazed down at her, and he gave off only a shrug, preferring to keep his hands in his pockets, and a warm: "It's fin--" He stopped mid-sentence, and recalled what he had just observed about her. Young woman. Silver hair. Blue eyes. Quite a bit shorter than him... and just as he was suddenly aware of this, he started to sense her Magic Power as well. It was a shot in the dark, but at this point he had nothing to lose. His friendly facial expression was practically frozen when he had interrupted himself and began to ponder her appearance, but quickly it shifted to widened eyes and raised eyebrows. Whatever you do... don't act like yourself. Be... stupid...

"Y-you're her! I've been looking for you! ... I-I think! The Saint of Eden, right? It's great to finally meet you! Oh man, I would ask for an autograph if I could. Oh, my apologies! I haven't introduced myself." He spoke very quickly, and made sure to stutter and keep a smile on his face every few words, painting as inaccurate of a picture as possible for who he really was. He scratched behind his head with a gentle laugh, maybe trying too hard at this point to mask his personality, and getting embarrassed of it every second, but he needed to make sure he didn't come across as too suspicious. "My name is De--Deca! Pleased to meet you!"

A stupid name, but it was the first thing that came to mind. And with a very excited and jittery expression, he held his hand out for her to shake it, making sure to keep a dorky look on his face so she could perhaps confuse him with just a random fan.

    Leila Vergious  ❃  S-rank  ❃  Silver Wolf
Whenever Leila got recognized by someone on the street, she never knew how to respond. But because of her mostly kind nature, she always tried to do whatever she could for the fans that headed her way, even if she was not exactly in the mood to be her mage self. Even now, the moment this boy recognized her, she wished to do the same. However, a whole lot of people that happened to be around suddenly turned their heads toward the duo when they heard the title drop. Something that sent shivers down the girl’s spine as she suddenly frozen in mild panic.

A..ahaha, you must have the wrong person, mister! I’m glad you would think me to be similar to one of the great Wizard Saints, but I’m afraid you’ve got the wrong person. The Saint of Eden has a wolf tail and ears and all..!” Speaking way, way louder than any sane person would in that situation, all people that have grown interested in the situation quickly averted their gazes and started minding their own business again. So with the crisis of being overpowered by a crowd of people, Leila was able to relax a bit and drop the act.

Yeah, I’m Leila Vergious, the Saint of Eden… good to meet you, Deca. How funny, reminds me of another Wizard Saint from the past!” She would make the connection pretty nonchalantly, but the spirits inside of her head were a little bit more dubious about these things. “Suspicious. He probably gave you a fake name, so he might be up to something.” Spoke the calmer one. “Maybe it’s him! The mighty God if Ishgar number One! You have a celebrity in front of you, Leila!!

N…no, that shouldn’t be possible. He apparently disappeared before I was even aware of titles like Rising Star or Wizard Saint. Not to mention, no one seems to know how he actually looks like, just his name. So it’s not like we can confirm who this person is, anyway.” “Just stay sharp. We’ll come out of he tries anything.” While having a really weird conversation inside of her head, she tried to appear normal on the outside and see if they could perhaps not do this in the middle of the street.

P..please, excuse me. I was headed to the nearby park, so if you need something, would you mind changing location? I’d rather not have the attention of Crocus right now.” She was off her duty after all. And there was only so much time in the day before she would be required somewhere again, unable to enjoy any time to herself. Not that she disliked her title because of this, but she lacked the experience to make herself invisible to others, much like the famed Decayuss her spirits mentioned not too long ago.

If he accepted, which hopefully he would as Leila would just try to politely leave by herself otherwise, they would arrive at a fairly big park that had a much smaller amount of people than the rest of the city at this time of the day. One could even feel completely alone in certain parts of this park. And the silver-haired saint already knew these little spots, heading straight for one of them. An old wooden bench already awaited, the girl not wasting any time and sitting down with a loud sigh. Her eyes would trail around the place for a moment before returning to face the boy.

I apologize for the hassle, but you have your chance now. What is it that you wanted?” She would ask, a genuine curiosity present in her voice. He very well might have been just another fan who wanted a showcase of her magic, or perhaps an autograph. But ever since the two spirits that were always with her on a mental level pointed out the possible connection to a Saint of the old, she seemed to sense something special from him. Might have been just her imagining things after that thought was forced into her mind, but she was curious nonetheless.

    "I was only mostly dead."

The words she was saying was obvious enough to him that she had been putting on an act to get all of the people crowding around them to shoo away. It mattered not to him either way, since it would most likely help his desire to convince her that he was just a random fan; only an overly excited fan would speak in a way as loud as that and attract the crowd. Nonetheless he still had to put on an act on the outside, so he only gave an embarrassed smile and a gentle laugh: "M-my apologies. I guess I got too carried away... haha." Suddenly, what she had said to him made his heart skip a bit. The Wizard Saint from the past was indeed him, and all he could think was: Shit. No, no, no, no. She can't know. She doesn't know... nobody does. I've never met her before. There's no way she could know.

He did his best effort to keep a very friendly look on his face, keeping his eyebrows raised and his eyes a little bit wide; the last thing he wanted to do was make his face go blank after she said a thing like that. Or look concerned. "Really? I wonder who that could be..." It was the first thing that came out of his mouth, though an instant later he had regretted it. Hopefully he didn't come across as sarcastic--hopefully--or at the very least they could move on from this. What caught him as a little bit strange was how she had been standing still in silence for a few moments. He was about to speak up and see if she was even paying attention, but fortunately she had started conversing with him once more just before he could do that. All she had asked for was a change of location, which he had no problem with at all. If worse had come to pass and she managed to identify him, it would be a lot easier to deny it with just her around, or maybe one person or two, rather than in the middle of Fiore's capital city. "Yeah! Of course!"

He followed behind the woman a little closely, but made sure to keep a fair bit of distance between them as to not make her uncomfortable. In his attempt to further mask who he was and his actual personality, he started to hum to himself a little bit obnoxiously on the way. This also served as a way to keep his outside thoughts on the dopey side while he could internalize and take a bit longer to reflect. She said it a little nonchalantly... she didn't seem puzzled at all. Then again, why is she still talking with me. Surely she wouldn't have time for a random fan... damn it. Just keep it cool. The two of them finally reached the park, and an empty wooden bench with nobody nearby. There were people in the park's distance, absolutely, but fortunately no one was in listening distance as of right now. She first gave him a chance to speak, which was a relief. Now he could lie and twist his story up as much as he needed to, and he knew just how to do it.

"Well..." He intentionally looked to the side, a little bit nervous while awkwardly scratching one of his arms. His voice had sounded hesitant, but very inquisitive, trying to make himself appear more awkward now that he was given the opportunity to get things rolling. "I would like to say I came for an autograph... but it's not that simple. I need to be honest when I say this... I have amnesia. And the only thing I can remember is my name is Deca, and I have a history with a Wizard Saint. I don't know who, though... which is why I came to ask you. You were the easiest one I could find, and I was hoping maybe you could tell me a little bit more about the other Saints. Who is in what position... and maybe a little more about that Saint you said I reminded you of?" He tried to keep his question as simple as possible--and there were some things he was legitimately curious about. Not all of this was just intended to be banter. He wanted to know who was current active as a Wizard Saint, if there was anyone he might recognize, and what officially he was reported as. Because there was no about it to him: he died in battle.

As Leila sat down on the bench, she would clench her fist, only to open her up and reveal several seeds that suddenly formed in her hand. She would nonchalantly toss them onto the ground in front of her and wait until several colorful birds would fly down and start feasting. Even with Deca around, they were not getting spooked at all, soothed by the girl’s magical aura. Despite her magic now being summoning-based, she was still a nature mage and strongly connected to her element. Animals of all kinds were her friends, even if they were meeting for the very first time.

At the same time of doing this, she would patiently listen to the boy nearby. His story was… interesting. It a world like this, it was perfectly plausible. But there was one question she just had to ask. “You don’t really know who is in the other saint positions or don’t know much about them, yet you managed to find me and call me out so easily?” Regardless of what his answer was, the spirits inside of her head already started grasping on his words and forming theories about what was actually going on here.

Amnesia is rather convenient, isn’t it?” “But Leila had amnesia as well! And for a good while as well!” “That was because of a magical seal placed on her mind. I sense no such thing from this man.” The discussion that quickly started was rather obnoxious for the girl sitting in the park in the real world. While she appreciated them trying to help, this might have been a little bit too much for her, as she still wasn’t exactly used to the fact that her spirits were able to communicate with her like this without even being summoned.

Anyway, there is a lot of information available about the saints if you dig deep enough. But it’s not like we are a team or anything, so I hardly know much more than a regular person would about the rest of the saints. There is Ryo from Sabertooth, Aiyana from Lamia Scale and… Astrid Foss from Crystal Swan. Those are the other saints. Currently, there is only one god, however. Or in this case, goddess - Izayuki from Black Rose. As for the old number one Saint, he simply disappeared. That is what everyone was told and I’ve not discovered anything further.

The only other saint she would actually have more info about was only Astrid. But before she could even start, one of the spirits shouted in her mind, making the girl actually jump in place. “Wait! Hear me out on this… what if… and I mean what if! This man here is the old Wizard Saint n.1! He disappeared, right? Maybe he lost a fight against something, and that gave him amnesia and he also lost most of his magic! Oooh, that would be awesome! Yeah, we have the ex-strongest mage ever right in front of us, awesome!

While such proposition seemed somewhat ridiculous, it was also not impossible. Considering all that had happened to Leila herself, there was no explanation that could be called truly impossible. It would make the girl eye the boy next to her with great interest as she sized him up. There was definitely some magic inside of him, but it was far too weak for him to be called the number one wizard. Or even a Rising Star. But if he really were that, then maybe something inside of him would react if she poked on his pride. He might not remember, but an automatic reaction could be maybe brought up. “You… are pretty weak, huh?

    "I was only mostly dead."

For a second or two he figured that he had her completely fooled. In the world that they lived in, it seemed anything was possible by anyone, so amnesia was not that far out there. The first thing that she tried to poke into his story hadn't bothered him at all. In fact, out of all the lies that he told her so far, this was perhaps the one with the only sense of truth to it: he knew who the saints were at the time of his death. In fact, it was safe to say he knew pretty much all of them personally. Though he had been dead for... quite some time, and there was no doubt a shift in who was a saint. Confidently, he nodded to her and responded with a very quick: "That's right! All I remember is I have a history with one. I Just didn't know who they are... or were. You were just the first one that came to mind when I asked people about it." That was once again another lie, but one that he could confidently say because it was wrapped in a solid truth. She was the first that came to a conversation, and he was thus the one that he chose to focus solely on; if he had tried to pursue multiple Saints, he might find himself lost in getting the location of just one.

Though the information that she gave was very surface level, it proved invaluable to him. It told him two things that he officially needed to know: who the current saints were, and what his status was. Unfortunately, it was bad news both ways. "Huh... so that's who they are..." his thoughts came out out of his mouth for just a moment, but everything else remained internalized within his mind. None of the current saints were names that he could recognize, and there was even a guild mixed in there that he couldn't even identify. Crystal Swan... no matter. What he gave very serious attention to was not letting his thoughts expel themselves into words regarding his own fate. If he focused on that, then he might look suspicious, but his mind was already processing it in quite the unimpressed way. I gave my life for those bastards, and the most they can do is say I disappeared? I sacrifice myself, and they say nothing about my death and bury me near a goddamned cliff in the middle of no where?!

It took a lot of mental energy for him to resist looking upset on his outside face, a single drop of sweat coming down from one of his temples. He was so internalized on this fact that her jumping physically in the world had simply passed him by. Common people that he spoke to were unaware of the fate of his life, which more or less had made sense; rather than instilling fear into people that a hero had died, simply say he disappeared. But... this woman was a saint herself, and that's the most she was told? "Damn it..." he quietly said, slipping up. His response was only an excess of his thoughts regarding himself, and wasn't intended to be a retort to her assumption. He shot himself back to reality, quickly improvising a way to use his cursing to his advantage. "You're... you're right, damn it." He gave her a much more put on grin than he had been doing so far, once again nervously scratching behind his head. This was a perfect segue"I'm weak, I know I am... I still remember things about the world, and about Magic. And I know that as a Mage, I'm weak. But... I don't know how weak, so..." for him. Though he might not like the results of what was going to come, he needed to know.

He gave a fake, nervous gulp and looked straight into her eyes, hopefully not having to repeat what he was just about to ask of her: "I need a favor. Hit me. As hard as you can. And show me how weak I actually am." In his desperation to know the truth about this, he had forgotten to put on his facade voice and attitude, and it was almost like looking at entirely different person. But given the dire need of his request, he could only hope that it would just pass over her head.

There appeared to be a very interesting spiral of distrust and trust happening here, where Leila did have her doubts in places as she listened to the youth, but at the same time wished to believe him rather than to doubt everything people that she does not know tell her. She really did not wish to become some sort of extremely paranoid mage who would always required solid evidence for every single claim tossed at her. It was a dangerous road to go down for anyone who wished to lived at least a somewhat normal live, which was actually one of the girl’s more subtle desires.

And while she still wasn’t exactly all that sure how he managed to find her in this city without knowing almost anything at all about all of the Wizard Saints, she decided to just believe his explanation for now. In the end, there really didn’t seem to be all too much magical energy inside of him, so even if he did decide to attack or ambush her for whatever reason, she would not really have that much trouble defending herself. Not to mention that they were also in the middle of a city. While in a pretty empty park, someone would definitely hear them fight and notify the guards.

So that left only a worry that she would slip out an information she should not have. Thankfully, the girl was pretty careful with her tongue almost always, due to her history of traveling and wandering. All in all, there was absolutely nothing to worry about, allowing her to relax a little bit more as she observed his reactions to the identities of the other Wizard Saints. Their names and guilds were public information, so she didn’t exactly slip out anything she shouldn’t have. It was honestly somewhat surprising this boy wanted information from her rather some other public source.

He also did not respond to her words the way she expected. Instead, he admitted to being weak, which made Leila honestly feel a little bad. She understood full well how it felt to be powerless. Despite being one of the more powerful mages in Fiore, she that wasn’t always the case. She, too, had died at one point and lost all of her powers, having to start over. Not only that, her magic was sealed away at one point and she managed to regain it only recently. But when he asked her to hit him, that was something completely different.

She would quickly jump up and start flailing her arms around. “No, no, no! Don’t be silly, if I were to hit you and my full power, there is no way you would survive… I mean, don’t take it the wrong way, but-” As she was speaking, a suddenly blue light appeared above her, a new figure suddenly emerging from it. It was a very young girl in short yukata, with a white hair and dragon tail and horns. She would land between the due and with a gleam in her red eyes, she suddenly kicked Deca in the stomach.

The contact was extremely cold and probably painful as well. In fact, this was Yuki, Leila’s S-ranked spirit that just forced her gate open. As such, her power was about as great as regular punches or kicks come from the Wizard Saint. Yuki’s kicks were powerful enough to send foes flying back, so it would not be surprising if the same happened to the boy. “Wha- Yuki! What in the world are you doing?!” The spirit would simply look at her summoner and shrug. “He asked us to hit him, so I just went ahead and fulfilled his wish.

Her expression was as stone cold, as usual, her voice uncaring for whatever was happening. Little concerned for Deca’s well being, Leila would run over to him as her body started glowing with a faint magical glow, her eyes extended toward his body. At that moment she would start healing him, the place where he was hit, until now covered in ice from the kick, healing pretty quickly and reverting back to the original state, leaving not much more than just a bit of damage to his shirt and hopefully nothing more.

    Yuki:

    "I was only mostly dead."

Immediately after his request, he felt as though he made the wrong decision. One thing he forgot to take into account was her personality, and just who she was known as... "The Saint of Eden," and the inquisitive female trope shouldn't exactly have come across to him as punching someone without hesitation. Though if he were a Saint and the roles were reversed, would he have done it? Probably in not, in fear of killing her, but he might have done it anyway whilst still going easy on her. And just as he suspected, her response was an immediate, 'no.' "Mmmmm...." He gave out a verbal and irritated grumble while his face looked obviously annoyed and disappointed in her. He thought about how he might go about encouraging her or protesting against her refusal, up until a blue light came between the two. His pulse skipped a beat because he initially thought that it was his own power finally manifesting itself once more. Disappointingly, it was just a girl much shorter than him landing between the two of them.

He looked down at her and was thinking about asking the Saint in front of them if this was a friend of hers, until there was a sudden kick that came straight into his stomach. It was a pretty dirty place to kick someone, and he was anticipating more of a face or chest area wound than anything, but a beggar couldn't be a chooser. He felt immense pain and bitter coldness writhe up in his stomach and throughout his body. Unsurprisingly he found himself flying backwards and crashing against the trunk of a nearby tree, spreading more of the pain to his backside. The wind and breath had been knocked out of him, and he made no initial sound in response to being kicked. The pain he felt in his stomach and his whole body was immense, although he was honestly quite disappointed; he had expected something more.

His eyes were sealed shut for a moment as he uncomfortably shifted himself to a more upright position, and that is when he finally let out his first grunt in response, putting his hand over to his stomach to clench on it. "Erghhh! Hahaha... Hahaha!" What might have come across as surprising to both the Saint and her spirit was him laughing at the attack, and even grinning about it. "Ahhh, not bad... not bad at all. Ugghh..." He took a few heavy breaths while he was being healed by the Saint, and looked down to see his ice-covered stomach. He smirked, and seemed to relax and become tolerant of the pain very quickly, partly in part from the Saint's healing, but also from his own experience. His overall magic and power was gone, but his tolerance and knowledge could never be replaced. "Could have hit me a bit harder, though. But thanks. I needed that."

He clenched his stomach for a brief moment, and started to get back onto his feet already. The wound that was inflicted hadn't been completely healed yet, and there was a large hole in his shirt near his stomach reason that was left behind from the attack, but overall he seemed pleased by it. The first thing he glanced at was the spirit that had been summoned, Yuki, and then at the Saint. His form was slightly crouched over at his stomach region with his hand still grabbing onto it, but he showed no signs of experiencing further pain other than that. "Well done. Thank you again. Summoning Magic, I'm guessing. Celestial Spirits? Yuki was her name... right?" If there was one thing that was missing either was his extensive knowledge on the world of Magic and its properties. It was a bit of a stab in the dark, but he might as well test his knowledge as well as his physical form. Physically he was extremely disappointed in himself, and knew that he had a lot to do... but if he could get this right, that was one thing the didn't lose in his death. One more thing he decided to add was a thought left more or less ambiguous: "Having conversations in your head about me, I take it?"

The only way he knew this was he used to have a spirit linked with him as well... his best friend, in fact. He wasn't certain how extensive Celestial Spirits like this could make contact with their owners, but it would certainly explain all of the weird pauses she took whilst speaking. He was guilty of it once upon a time, too.

The Wizard Saint of Eden would not stop her process of healing even as the boy started getting up. Her magic was fairly powerful even in this regard, so she was easily able to heal his wound completely. But a bit of the pain probably remained even then, such was the nature of most mortal bodies. And yet, something rather unexpected happened. Honestly, she was expecting a fair bit of things to happen in a situation like this, but the fact that he just started laughing about it all managed to bring confusion both to her, as well as to Yuki, both of the girls staring at him as he got up.

At least it was clear that he was okay even after the blow, but there was something about the fact that he appeared so ‘happy’ about being injured like that. Even further as he spoke, Leila’s opinion of him would get more and more tilted as she started considering options that were presented by her spirits previously. In the meantime, it was Yuki who got addressed. “I could have. But I didn’t want to rupture your stomach. Would be hard to heal.” Her voice and expression were both devoid of any emotions at all, as she was that kind of spirit.

The following awkward moment where they were all simply staring each other gave Leila a bit more time to think this all through. The silence was broken by Deca correctly guessing that this was a type of summoning magic. However, he also recognized it as celestial spirit summoning, despite Leila not using a key to summon Yuki. He also quickly assumed that she was communicating with her spirits telepathically across worlds. “Is it just me or did his personality change after he got kicked..? Yuki, you done did broke him!!

There was some truth to what her other spirit just yelled in the depths of her mind. She would look at the boy with a somewhat more serious look. “Function-wise, you could call them celestial spirits, yes. I guess you remember more than just your name and connection to a Wizard Saint if you were able to deduce all that from Yuki coming through alone, huh?” She wasn’t calling him out or anything, but she was trying to perhaps dig a little bit more information out of him. Anything that would help her see if he was actually lying to her or not.

Honestly, she was perfectly fine if he was in fact lying. It would be interesting to know why if that were the case, but she had met a great deal of people by now and this was actually not all too uncommon. Yuki, on the other hand, seemed to be little bit more harsh with this situation. “So why did you want us to hit you? I think it’s only fair if you tell us after we went through the trouble of granting you that request. While you’re at it, feel free to present your own magic as well, I wouldn’t mind seeing it.

    "I was only mostly dead."

Once Deniel had gotten his answer, he was thinking of his best way to give his farewell to her and leave, since he had gotten everything that he needed so far; he told her a lie that she believed (though he was certain she was at least skeptical about it), identified the new Wizard Saints and confirmed he knew none of them, and managed to find out that he really was at the bottom of the Mage Chain. The pain in his stomach was all but gone now, and his posture slowly elevated itself to standing up straight and tall once more. Though this time around, he stood with a much more confident posture, a subtle difference than how he was a few moments before he had been kicked. Though it seemed Leila and her spirit weren't quite done with him yet. He found himself metaphorically backed into a corner to answer the questions of these two; he had some doubts they would want to chase after some random, weak Mage, but his suspicions were too high, and he didn't want to elevate that by just taking off and avoiding them altogether at this point.

"Correct you are. Told you a little earlier... I remember most things I knew about Magic and the world." At least that's what he swore he had said. Even if the case wasn't true, it wasn't entirely unusual for somebody to forget who they are, but still remember others and the world; most people with memory loss can still identify objects and what their purpose is. And in his case, his intense knowledge of Magic was still relevant: "You know this spirit's name, which means that she's got a close tie to you. She appeared in a flash of blue light, which means it was through Magic. You're not carrying any object, so she must be a summoned creature. She's a humanoid figure with immense power, instead of some kind of monster... and I've heard tales that the stronger the connection between spirit and owner, the more things are possible. Like summoning themselves and gaining more power, among other things. So... Summoning Magic, likely Celestial Spirits. Easy." His deduction was only a basic one at best, and the knowledge could be attained by spending a few hours studying Magic and going through some books. He had never met a Celestial Spirit user in person, at least that's what their closest tie seemed to be.

His focus was on Leila whilst he gave his explanation, but then quickly shifted to Yuki, not because she was addressing him, but because he was curious to examine what a summoned creature like her could really do. Unfortunately, his sensory skills were still pathetic compared to what it used to be, and there was nothing he could do at this point. "Simple... I get the notion that maybe the Wizard Saint I have memories of is me. In that case, if another saint or someone of similar power were to hit me, it probably wouldn't be that bad. But by the looks of it... I'm not a Saint. Or near that level of power." Yuki's inquiry about his Magic provided him a perfect chance to show this... if he really were a Saint, then he could pull off some kind of amazing, spectacular, or unique Magic. ... The unique part was scaring him, however. His blood was perhaps the most unique thing about him, born under a demon and an angel as parents. His Magic was a reflection of this, and he quickly needed a way to disguise this. "Sure... just don't expect too much."

He gulped down intensely, frantically thinking of what he should do. An idea quickly came to his head, one that would require a large amount of energy. He stretched out both of his hands, holding the palms close together, but still retaining some distance between him. From his right shoulder area, a small quantity of a glowing maroon red Magical Energy emerged from him, and it slowly crawled its way from his shoulder down towards his palm. A second later, there came two smaller quantities of a sky blue Magical Energy, seemingly opposite in nature. The two of them merged into one, and likewise made their way from his back across his left arm, moving significantly faster than the red. The two forms of energy met each other near his palms, initially very resistant against each other, but were ultimately forced to merge together chaotically. Once a few seconds of them mixing, twirling, and almost looking as though they were battling each other for superiority, the product of their merging was an orb, perhaps only a few centimeters in radius. It was a dark purple color, a mixture of the two that had came initially, and looked quite unstable.

The entire time this was happening, Deniel had to focus as hard as he could to not initiate a Take Over; the origins of each source of Magical Energy was where his current Partial Take Overs would typically manifest, and it required an immense amount of concentration to alter this, and even moreso to merge the two of them together. By the end of it all, he was practically drained of most of his Magical Power, and was physically panting and exhausted. Though in spite of its size, and his lack of overall Magic Power, if anyone were to touch the orb, they would feel immense pain coursing through their body. "There... see?" He moved one of his palms away from the other, the orb levitating above his right palm as he held it up for Yuki and Leila to observe; "Just a couple pretty lights... nothing special. I was thinking, though... you told me earlier that this saint Decayuss was missing. Maybe my connection is I need to find him? Somehow?"

He couldn't think of any other way to bring himself up, but he had to establish further ground against the theory that he was the former God of Ishval. And hopefully the more he denied it, feigned ignorance, and showed that he was really weak, the more they would believe them.... hopefully.

It was true that even those with amnesia or other things that would cause their minds and memories to be suddenly unavailable could still recall certain other things from the world around them, provided they once had said knowledge or experience that would help in this. And identifying a summoning magic was not exactly the most difficult of tasks either. It was the fact that he called it celestial magic so quickly that was of concern to her. And that was mainly due to the way Yuki was summoned into this world, of her own free will. She was not called by Leila herself.

It seemed that Deca attributed the fact that she was a humanoid being to the fact that this must have been celestial spirit summoning magic. But that was just simply false. In fact, most of the celestial spirits that existed were not humanoid at all. And regular summoning magic was capable of calling forth humanoids and even people as well. To add to that, Leila did not use her key to summon, something that was normally required. This was not partly because of the Spirit's power, yes. But there was more to it, something that could not be contributed to power alone.

In was something to do with who Leila herself was that she became capable of summoning her spirits even without their keys in hand. In other words, because of her origin, she was capable of something that literally no one else was. So any regular person would naturally assume that her summoning magic must have been of the more normal type rather than celestial spirits. All in all, she had her doubts about the seemingly young man and planned to keep an eye on him. Because rather than acting natural, it seemed he was simply trying to act natural.

She knew this because she herself used to lie her way into places or to gain information. At this point, everyone knew her as the great Saint of Eden. But that was not always the case. She started her magical career only about two years ago when she came to this place. And before then, she was nothing more than a traveler. Someone without a home and constantly on the road. Someone who occasionally had to dirty their hands to get where they needed to be. So in the end, she knew a thing or two about acting thanks to these experiences.

Then she also listened rather carefully to his explanation of why he wanted to be attacked like that. And, well… he got the notion that the Wizard Saint might have been him? That was rather odd. It was not a thought that normally appeared inside of someone’s head. When faced with lost memories, there usually were no what ifs about the person being some secret character wielding grand powers. That said, even if that were the case, a seal was all that had to be placed on him to make those powers go away.

Once again, Leila went through pretty much the same thing. When faced with a dear friend who lost control over her own powers, the silver-haired maiden went in and tried to save her by executing an ancient spell. One that consumed her memories as well as power. She managed to save her friend but ended up being reduced from an A-ranked mage to one who was barely at the level of D-rank. It was perfectly possible that something like this could have happened to another powerful wizard of the past. She was just drawn to this theory more and more whenever Deca did something that almost seemed like it was designed to deny this fact.

And she got her little confirmation with his magic. As a traveler and someone who was deeply involved in the world of magic for two years now, she had seen a lot of different spells and feats of power. And universally speaking, there were some kinds that were just far more difficult to perform than others. One such feat being the forced combination of two naturally opposing forced. Most often being dark and light or water and fire. Even her own sister, Noheme, had powers that could combine dark and light.

From her, she knew directly just how powerful magic of that type could be, but also how much energy it took to control. With her level of magical sensing, she was able to dissect his spell completely inside of her head. And she very much realized it was precisely that sort of magic. One of the more powerful types, performed by a regular weakling beginner? It did not seem very likely. By the end of his showcasing, Yuki would not and immediately snap the orb from the air. She clearly sensed it as well.

The very moment this energy was met with the spirit’s hand, the whole orb would freeze completely, turning into something that now only resembled a very pretty decoration for someone’s winter home. “This is far from few pretty lights. It’s power is something that even I felt just now as I grabbed it. It’s very dangerous.” The snow girl said this in her usual monotone voice while Leila leaned toward the boy with a wink. “I think that decides it! I shall help you with the search for this lost Wizard Saint, wherever he might be~.

    "I was only mostly dead."

With her overall lack of any further counterarguments to make, there were two conclusions that Deniel had made in his head: one is that she was skeptical, but chose to believe the story that he made. And the other was that she didn't believe him one bit. There was no way in hell that she believed his story one hundred percent, her consistent questioning and attempting to crack his story open proved that, but at the very least she wasn't making accusations or advancing on him. Once Yuki had snatched the orb from his own being, his eyes shot up in alarm and quickly tried to reach for it, "Hey, give me that!" His reach missed it, and the orb that he worked so hard to create was transformed into a ball of ice. Before he could try to snatch it from her once more, the Saint had invaded his own circle of comfort with a wink, and an assumption that she would accompany him on his journey to find... himself. That was a good move by her, and he couldn't lie. He found her advance quite uncomfortable, evident by the fact that he arched himself backwards and took one step in the opposite direction, his eyes averting to her awkwardly. "I....I..." He was at a complete loss for words, and only one thing remained that he could do.

Lie once again. In a different way. No matter what, going out of this, he didn't want to admit the truth. She could suspect it all she wished, but in the end, he was not going to tell her who he really was. He relaxed his posture, and his voice, and began once more. "No. No... that won't be necessary." For once in this whole conversation, he started to sound like himself; his voice was still relatively high, but there was a very strong vibe of confidence and calmness in it. "I appreciate the offer, but... this is my duty. My destiny." It seemed at this point he abandoned all forms of pretending to forget who he was, but he still never exactly said whether or not he was the saint. In fact, he was about to suggest otherwise, one last time, and leave it at that: "He's out there somewhere... lost, most likely. But I believe it's my duty to find him. Besides, I would only hold you back."

He tried to find the quickest way to remove himself from the situation. At this rate she would try to relentlessly crack away at his story until he admitted the truth, and there was a necessity for him to ensure that this wouldn't happen. He slowly took a few steps backwards, before turning around entirely and starting to walk away. He stopped himself in his tracks after a few paces, however, and hesitated to say something... anything. "... If you still wish to help, meet me at the Serene Cliff in one month's time. And..." He hesitated once again, and looked down for a moment, before looking back up at her. "I'm not who you think I am." He turned around once more, and hurried his walking pace up from before to try and remove himself from the situation as fast as possible.
