Post by Itori 25th June 2015, 6:41 am

    Name:
    Shirokawa Itori (白い皮意肚裏)

    Gender:
    Female

    Age:
    7806

    Birthday:
    10/31

    Sexuality:
    Bisexual

    Special Characteristics:
Kitsune features: fox ears, slitted pupils, sharp fangs, sharp nails, vermilion eyes, fox tails (one at D-Rank, additional two for each Rank above that), silver-white hair.

    Personality:
Itori has a polite and somewhat dignified manner of speaking, using highly cultured terms and addressing everyone with respect. Most likely this is a side of result of her impressive age, which has resulted in her having a lot of time to learn many languages and feeling no need to rush herself by using simpler terms. That said she most certainly doesn't act snobbish: she never looks down her nose at others, she will always tries to make people feel appreciated and noticed, and almost always takes a more deferential position. That said she will gently remind people that one tends to get better results when interacting with others when you treat them with respect and kindness, and if facing an insulting or degrading attitude she will question what she or others have done to deserve such a blatant lack of respect.

Her voice is always soft and lyrical, a voice suited for singing and soothing. Even when Itori is suppressing the power of her voice to keep it from enchanting the people around her it is still a beautiful voice that many would almost certainly love to keep listening to, and thanks to Itori's habit of speaking slowly and with cultured terms there's plenty of opportunity to listen to her whenever she's around. Even more fortunately Itori is well known for her habit of humming and singing to herself whenever she's happy and busy with her own hobbies, often singing songs of languages far away or long lost. One could suspect that Itori has spent a long time culturing her voice, habits and manner of speech to be as appealing and calming as possible, soothing the sad and the angry and catching the attention of many.

Like with her speech the rest of Itori's behaviour is similar: both cultured, polite and friendly, almost certainly intentionally developed to help feel anyone at ease in her presence, soothe those whose emotions are running strong and making everyone she interacts with feel appreciated and acknowledged. Through her many, many years she has encountered many cultures and traditions, and while she only uses culture specific habits if she feels like it'd be appreciated she does always show habits which are almost universally considered respectful and belonging to an intelligent but kind person, someone who wants to treat everyone with kindness and who would be shocked at the idea of being intentionally insulting.

If not busy with her own hobbies or duties she tends to look after others regardless of whether she was asked or not, only relenting if someone makes it clear to her that they do not need or wish for her aid. One might think that someone who has lived so long would prefer to leave the menial tasks to others, but since Itori does not actually consider herself of a higher position than those around her she dutifully and without any sign of annoyance or irritation does the housework and helps others out when they need help. Wherever Itori happens to be staying at the moment she has a tendency to always end up doing chores or housework, simply because someone has to do it and she has no qualms about doing such simple yet fulfilling work. That doesn't mean that she can't enjoy her free time, but usually her free time only occurs after her current resident has been completely cleaned, repaired and otherwise taken care of. If someone were to ask Itori why she seems to be so dedicated to making sure everything is taken care of she'd explain that once you've lived a long life you become better at appreciating the little things, and if she can take care of the small tasks with less frustration than others there's no reason not to step up.

That said Itori's personality is not solely politeness and kindness. It takes a lot to push her that far, but when someone or something really angers her or earns her explicit dislike she becomes cold, her eyes losing their usual warmth as she instead gets a more calculating and focused gaze. She will still speak and behave with politeness, but her words can have an edge to them and one should not expect her to be as forgiving of intentionally abrasive behaviour as she otherwise would be. Even then she will strive to be a good example by refraining from provocative or demeaning behaviour, but she won't hide the fact that so far as she concerned something is wrong, and that she doesn't approve of it. She will quickly return to her usual warm demeanour when the issue is resolved, but for as long as it lasts she can be quite unsettling, especially when she displays an unusual amount of cunning.

When it comes to combat Itori tends to become very silent, showing herself to be a very solemn and focused fighter as she doesn't waste any time with idle conversation or playing around. Like many other swordsmen and swordswomen she believes that a sword is a weapon that must be wielded with extreme care and calm: emotions and recklessness have no place in her fighting style. If she has been pushed to fighting that means that there's no reason for her to delay or hold back, and she will do her best to swiftly and if possible with as little pain as possible eliminate whatever her target happens to be, her fighting style one of grace and precision. It can be considered curious that Itori behaves so much like someone dedicated to the way of the sword when it comes to straight up combat: even if another Kitsune were forced to fight one on one without trickery or deception they'd probably still prefer using more magic, staying at a distance or relying on blitzing speed and nimbleness. Itori's style is based off of her believe that combat is not something to be enjoyed, and she just wants to minimize collateral damage as much as possible while also finishing the fight as quickly as possible so she can put it behind her.

That said, this is only if Itori is forced into a straightforward fight. If possible Itori will always do her best to avoid combat, either diplomatically or through clever thinking. She has a strong dislike for bloodshed and violence, and thus will only resort to that if she feels like there's no other option left for her. Her first approach is almost always to try and resolve any conflicts peacefully: if for one reason or another diplomacy is impossible she'll resort to trickery and deception, possibly even blackmail if more amiable methods are not bearing any fruit. With illusions, wit and whatever other weapons are available she'll behave more like a special ops than your usual kind of warrior. For Itori the blade is most definitely the last resort, no matter how much training and practice she has put into refining her skills with it.

While Itori has plenty of dignity if one looks at her behaviour she has little issue with making sacrifices if she believes that is the best option for achieving what she wants. While her objectives are almost always beneficial for whatever group she is aligned with or even more than just that group she has little hesitation in using feminine charm, deception, bribery, blackmail, intimidating or whatever else happens to be necessary. She has never outright admitted it, but those who know her probably wouldn't be surprised if they ever learned that in the past she has even offered her body to achieve a particularly difficult objective. That said she has strong reservations for sacrificing others: she doesn't mind using everything she has, but she would only ever use anyone else if they agree to it or she can't think of any other way to solve the issue at hand. In fact it's quite possible that Itori would prefer to resort to violence rather than sacrifice her allies.

If pushed into the position of leader Itori will focus on making sure all of those under her command come out of combat alive, preferring defensive and careful strategies. Considering how much respect she shows everyone being put into command means that she has the responsibility of making sure everyone under her command comes back home alive, because if any of them were to die she'd have failed not only them, but everyone who entrusted her with the burden of command. Like when fighting on her own she'll prefer to avoid combat, trying to figure out what abilities her allies have to see what kind of plan she'd be able to think up that would minimize the amount of violence necessary and so far as possible also minimize the losses on both sides. Being a Kitsune she is quite cunning and good at thinking of clever plans, especially plans which rely on being sneaky and tricky. That said Itori doesn't like being the one in command, as she feels like there are almost always others more suited for command while she is more suited for doing work behind the scenes, fulfilling duties both small but significant and important but difficult.

When working under someone else's command Itori's behaviour is pretty much the same as her behaviour outside of combat: she'll show proper respect, she'll listen but also give her own suggestions when she feels it's necessary and proper, and she'll obey whatever commands she's given unless she's given strong reason to belief that the commands are too detrimental to the chances of success or the well being of her allies. While she will show respect to anyone who is assigned as her boss she'll prefer it if it's someone who she knows is competent, and she will always show support for plans which keep herself and allies safe and those who implement plans like that. Considering that her skill set is more suited for non-combat duties she also will make sure to express her gratitude when the one in command recognizes that and gives her a mission which suits her talents well.

Aside from all the human characteristics Itori also possesses a handful of more vulpine traits: while she disapproves of blatant disrespect she can't help but appreciate it if someone manages to trick someone else in a friendly and harmless manner. Beyond that she will admit that she prefers the clever and the cunning over the strong and the tough, believing that those who can use their head are capable of doing more things than those who just overcome challenges with brute strength or endurance (the latter being somewhat ironic since Itori has quite a large amount of stamina herself). There's also the fact that her ears and tails tend to help show what kind of mood she's in, and that sometimes if one pays attention those foxy features of hers can be used to gauge her actual feelings even when she still shows her usual mannerisms.

    Likes:

    • Singing: Itori loves to sing or hum, allowing her lyrical voice to fill the air and brighten the hearts of those around her. Even when alone she'll often be humming, one of the clearest signs of her being in a good mood.
    • Helping: Itori seems to not only think that she should help because she's suited for it: she actually seems to just like helping other and making sure that they're all right, giving advice or giving them a hand when they're struggling. She feels like everyone needs to overcome challenges to grow, but sometimes a challenge can be made more fair.
    • Food: if there is one sin Itori undeniable has, it's that she's a glutton. Fortunately she realized this and made sure she wouldn't constantly end up eating other people's food by becoming a very good cook, but there's still the fact that people should really wonder why she never gets fat with the raw amount of food that she consumes on a daily basis.

    Dislikes:

    • The unmannered: Itori is warm and kind to everybody who deserves it, but somebody who think that they can take advantage of her tendency to help everybody will very quickly get on her list of people that she won't be as friendly towards.
    • Bad food: as much as a glutton as Itori is, she really does not like spoiled, rotten, or just plain low quality food. That is one of the main reasons why she became a cook besides just the desire to be able to prepare her own food and that of others: she wanted to make sure that the food would be of good quality.
    • Fighting: Itori is not a fan of fighting. She recognizes it as a way to achieve something when other methods are unavailable or ineffective, but she wouldn't ever fight purely for the sake of fighting.

    Motivations:

    • Learn more cooking: the one thing Itori does which has as main benefactor herself, she really does want to improve as a cook and learn new recipes. Of course she would also share her improved cooking with others, but she doubts many others would appreciate it as much as she herself does.
    • Finding a mate: while she doesn't currently really put a lot of focus into it, Itori does actually want to have a mate, if only because she already has lived for over 7806 years without ever having had one (at least, one that she actually settled down with and had children with).
    • Growth: while a somewhat minor motivation Itori does want to become a nine tails, so if an opportunity presents itself for her to grow and maybe gain additional tails she'll definitely take it.
    • Helping: Itori wants to see others develop and mature, both individuals as well as groups and even nations. With as long a history as her own she likes seeing things improve, seeing people live happy lives and nations prosper. She'll do her best to help with that so far as she is able.

    Fears:

    • Famine: being the glutton that she is Itori does truly love good food, so even though she can actually survive for quite a long period of time with minimal food she truly dreads those times, and whenever possible will stock up on as much food as possible.
    • Discrimination: Itori has lived a long life, and while many people were kind and accepting she has had her fair share of people who weren't too happy about dealing with a Kitsune. She would rather deal with it as little as possible.
    • Corruption: Itori does her best to be a good person, she likes helping others and she likes seeing them happy. She's surprisingly ethical for a member of a species known for their trickery and deception. But at the same time she's afraid that being alive for so long might cause her to slowly lose respect for those with normal lifespans. She doesn't want to become disdainful or even playfully cruel.

    Weight:
    121 lbs (55 kg)

    Hair:
White, and most of it is cut short so it reaches down to her shoulders but not much further. The hair hanging down her forehead reaches to above and between her eyes. The longest part of her hair is the two long bangs framing her face.

    Eyes:
    Vermilion

    Skin Tone:
    Light

    Appearance:
Itori is a tall and graceful Kitsune woman, with decent curves (although not too amazing) but very refined features. She has a beauty suitable for a noble or a high class servant, albeit a young and athletic one, with delicate hands and feet. That said her fox features and her silvery-white hair stand out a lot, which can throw people a bit off guard if they aren't used to non-humans (her vermilion eyes can also be somewhat disconcerting to the unprepared).

    Bisexual

    Special Characteristics:
Kumiho Form: vulpine pupils and red iris, fox ears, fox tails (one at D-Rank, increases with two every rank)

    Personality:
One of Itori's most notable traits is that she's silent. She's not cold, or withdrawn, or anything like that. She is, very simply, somebody who does not talk a lot. Not because she interacts little with others, but because she does not like speaking. It is not known why exactly she dislikes doing so, seeing how whenever somebody were to ask her about it she would refrain from answering. It is commonly accepted that it's just a personality quirk of hers, and because she is quite good at interacting with others without using her voice the only ones who try to press the issue are those who are more bothered by the concept than the actual effects it has. Itori is in particular good at expressing herself using her ears and tail(s): a flick of her ears, a swirl of her tail(s), and those who know Itori already know quite a bit about her current mood and maybe even what she's thinking. Or at least what she's willing to show to others. In her human form she needs to put more effort into it, but in general she can still get others to understand what she is trying to say without actually speaking.

Her silence aside, Itori is actually quite sociable. She doesn't seek out interaction with anybody besides her sisters, but when she comes into a situation where she has to interact with others she does so without hesitation or difficulty, her lack of speech not impeding her ability to get along with others...as long as she desires to get along with them. Itori is warm, caring, and helpful for those who she likes or otherwise has reason to look after, often taking an almost subservient attitude as she helps them out without ever asking for anything in return. However if somebody were to aggravate her or in some way incite dislike for them within the Kumiho she will do either of two things, depending on the person: if the person is still of use to her or her sisters she will fake friendliness, and do a fairly good job of it. However if she dislikes a person, and said person can offer her nothing that she wants or needs, she will quickly make her opinion of that person clear, openly looking down at them and speaking ill of them (well, not speaking, but you can imagine that she would just generally act hostile towards them).

When not just looking after others or interacting with them Itori often does one of four things: be with her sisters, find a quiet spot in a natural looking place (next to a mountain stream, clearing in a forest) and sit down and relax, find a quiet and isolated spot where she won't be spied upon and train, or both prepare and consume an impressive amount of food. Itori is a surprisingly good cook, although it actually isn't that surprising when you realize that she probably learned how to both so she could help others stay healthy and to satisfy her own appetite, which is rather abnormal in its raw size.

However, all of this information does not include the full importance of Itori's sisters in her personality. Where she can get along with others but does not seek their presence without purpose, Itori always wants to know where her sisters are, and try to help them as best as she can. Where with others she will help them to the point of seeming subservient Itori will silently obey when her sisters give her command, the only exception being if she believes that the command would cause nothing but harm to either herself or her sisters. Even if her sisters annoy her she will try to hide that annoyance, not wanting to get into a fight with the two siblings that she loves dearly. Her sisters are practically the main reason that Itori lives, and seeing them hurt visibly hurts her as well. Those who anger her sisters will also receive Itori's ire, and if something were to threaten her sisters Itori would do the best she could to remove that threat, regardless of the method required. This includes trickery, deception, murder, seduction, or any other elaborate plots. You see, while Itori is silent, helpful, and even rarely bothers to try and oppose her will onto others she is quite intelligent, and also not weak-willed. Others maybe think her easy prey, but Itori acts like she does because she wants to, not because she has no choice in the matter.

If ever put in a situation where she no longer feels like acting as she normally does Itori's behaviour becomes similar to how she treats those that she dislikes: not unnecessarily cruel, but harsh and cunning, with nothing to keep her from doing what she has set out to do. Of course such a situation rarely occurs: the most common occurrence is that Itori believes that the best way to help her sisters is to temporarily stop being nice and just become as deadly and direct as necessary.

That is not to say that her usual personality is fake. Itori's warm and caring side is as genuine as any part of her is. However she knows that sometimes being so timid and friendly is actually detrimental rather than helpful, and if such a situation arises she will not be the one too hesitant to harden herself and do whatever it is that needs to be done. She is saddened at what kind of pasts her sisters have experienced when she was not there to help them, and has sworn to herself that she would not let either of them go through something similar ever again, at least not if she could put a halt to it by putting all she got into it.

When in battle Itori will, as she almost always is, be silent, and also very focused. Her weapon is a sword, and to wield a sword one has to be as focused and sharpened as a sword themselves. Training has made her quite the acute observer even when in human form, where she does not have her vulpine senses to help her. Her fighting style is not flashy, extravagant, or wild: it is coordinated, precise, and with deadly intent. Her movements could be called elegant, although she does not care about elegance: the elegance is in the efficiency, the way her moves flow into another and how she avoids making wasted movements. A sword is not a weapon that should be handled without extreme care. A single slash should be enough to make the difference in a fight, and Itori will do her best to make it so.

This, of course, is mostly for when we are talking about straightforward and simple fights. When the conflict is of a more drawn out or complicated nature Itori will do her best to avoid direct conflict: if she can persuade the opposition to not fight, she will attempt to do so, if she can remove the adversaries using traps, tricks, deception, or poison (somebody who has lived this long and who has put a lot of effort into cooking certainly knows how to also make less healthy things), she will do so. Itori has no liking of combat, and will only fight if it is to protect or help her sisters, or if all other avenues have failed. If she fights, she does not care about honour or being fair: defeating her opponents is a means to an end, not something to be dragged on just because stabbing somebody from behind is 'dishonourable'.

That said, Itori does show proper respect to those she faces in a fight. She does not insult them, look down on them, or gloat (granted, insulting and gloating are both things that normally require speech, but she strongly gives the impression that even if she did speak, she would not be doing either of those things). Of course those who have angered either herself or her sisters deserve no mercy or kindness from her, but during a fight she will treat them with all the respect that they are due as warriors. Note that this only counts for actual warriors (and mages, if they're actually fighting). If she were to notice some cowardly thief trying to stab her in the back she would take them down with a look of disdain on her face.

When working together with others Itori is almost always, with little to no exception, somebody who quietly and obediently does as she is told. She is intelligent enough that she could make decisions for herself, but as somebody who on an average day already often just helps others letting somebody else take the lead is easier for everybody involved, especially when her lack of speech is taken into account. While Itori can communicate without speech a leader often requires a level of clarity that body language can't really convey. As a follower Itori obeys orders without question, doing her best to execute them as close to the letter as possible while also aiming to execute them as efficiently and successfully as possible.

When forcefully put in the position of leader Itori will be able to use her intelligence to think up fairly good plans, but her lack of willingness to speak will get in the way of her being able to issue orders properly. Nevertheless she could do fairly well as a leader, doing her best to accomplish the goal while also putting all her effort into avoiding anybody under her command getting harmed in the process. However for her to do well those who are under her command would have to be able to trust a female who never speaks and who they know to act rather subservient in daily life, which can sometimes lead to issues because of the more openly proud people being unwilling to listen to somebody who a) doesn't have a commanding presence, b) never talks, and c) will do her best to avoid any real fighting, instead preferring trickery and deception of all kinds above bashing each other's heads in with weapons or magic. Although of course Itori will take the abilities of her allies into account so far as she knows them, so if the only thing they're good at is fighting then she will probably opt for fighting because that would just be the most efficient route.

When fighting together with her sisters Itori has a lot of an easier time getting her messages across, easing her ability to work together. While she obeys her sisters more readily than other people she also is more willing to contribute her own thoughts, and also more willing to disagree if her sisters have some plan which she believes to not work out well. This is partially because she feels more comfortable with her sisters than she does with anybody else, and partially because she finds the safety of her sisters too important to stay quiet (metaphorically) if they are threatening to bring themselves into unnecessary danger. The increase of importance of her sisters also drives Itori to try even harder to do what is needed as efficiently and successfully as possibly, sometimes even causing her to do things she otherwise wouldn't be able to.

Addendum: while Itori rarely talks, she is not mute, as her sisters at least have heard her speak several times. When she speaks, she often surprises everybody around her, not only because of almost nobody expecting her to, but because her voice is actually quite beautiful, clear and soft, often leading her speaking to be followed by people repeating the question why she never speaks. She also very, very rarely can be heard singing. The best chances of hearing this are if her sisters find her when she believes herself to be alone. Like when she speaks, her voice is surprisingly entrancing.

    Likes:

    • Her sisters: for Itori there is practically nothing that is more important than her sisters. She loves them dearly, and feels the happiest when she is with them.
    • The wilds: Itori does not have anything against being surrounded by people, but she also loves those places still untouched by civilization, like vast forests, valleys, and various other picturesque locations. She could spend a whole lot of her day just hanging around in such a place, enjoying the scenery and the fact that it lacks some of the more ugly sides of civilization.

    Dislikes:

    • The unmannered: Itori is warm and kind to everybody who deserves it, but somebody who think that they can take advantage of her tendency to help everybody will very quickly get on her list of people that she does not care about. People who do anything negative to her sisters will automatically get on Itori's bad side, and in the deep end as well.
She recognizes it as a way to achieve something when other methods are unavailable or ineffective, but she wouldn't ever fight purely for the sake of fighting, unless maybe if she were to spar together with her sisters.
    • Humans: a very important thing to note is that while Itori is normally kind, warm, and helpful, that does not mean that she likes humans. In fact, the fact that she acts that way towards humans is mostly because while she dislikes the race as a whole, it is both easier to hide that dislike (people being less hostile towards both herself and her sisters), and she wants to make sure that she only shows her actual hatred towards those who it doesn't matter with whether she is at odds with them or not. She will in her daily life be a very easy person to get along with (besides the lack of speech), but she can also kill or injure humans without feeling the slightest bit of guilt. Most of the horrible things that he sisters went through were caused by humans, and just because Itori herself didn't experience something like that doesn't mean that she doesn't hate the humans severely for what they have done.

    Motivations:

    • Helping her sisters: Itori knows that both her sisters have been through a lot, and wants to do her best to help both of them overcome their past experiences, and help them with whatever the future might have in store for both them and herself.
    • Reviving her race: Itori is somewhat more focused on her sisters in the present, but she does know that she also has to help revive their collective race, and if possible return it to its former glory.
    • Learn more cooking: the one thing Itori does which has as main benefactor herself, she really does want to improve as a cook and learn new recipes. Of course she would also share her improved cooking with others, but she doubts many others would appreciate it as much as she herself does.
    • Finding a mate: while she doesn't currently really put a lot of focus into it, Itori does actually want to have a mate, if only because she already has lived for over 7806 years without ever having had one.
    • Vengeance: everybody who has helped her sisters suffer the ways that they have will at some point or another get their dues. If they are already dead their descendants should be glad that Itori doesn't believe in punishing the children for the sins of their parents.

    Fears:

    • Famine: while perfectly capable of dealing with normal rations if necessary (such as during extended jobs), the idea of having no food at all makes Itori rather shaky. Without food no living creature can survive, and as such she always overdoes her attempts at making sure both herself and her sisters have enough.
    • Losing her sisters: Iniki and Izayoi are almost everything to Itori. If she were to lose either of them she would probably crack, and go on a murderous rampage to either get them back, get revenge on whoever or whatever made her lose them, or just to die herself.
    • Extinction: while she and her sisters are trying to prevent it, Itori deeply fears the possibility that their race is doomed anyway, that no matter what they try it's already too late for the Kumiho race to be saved.
