    `` isn't this enough?

“I am fairly certain I told you to never show your face here again, or did your mother not pass along the message?” the unamused Enenra asked, seated gracefully on her seemingly fancy and somewhat exotic sofa and cushions. The room was very large, and there was a large opening that led to a balcony, with no doors or windows, only open air. She was high up high in a tower of some sort; the forest could be seen as extremely tiny and a sumptuous, orange sunset beyond the horizon. The floor of the room was polished and shiny, and almost reflected the ceiling, the faint light coming in as the sun hid behind the land on the horizon. The walls were rather bare, but still had an intrinsic design of faded, dull, yet somehow vivid colors on their polished surfaces. It was the realm of the smoke of lightweight fabric-- Kemuira Enraenra.

The raven-haired woman’s gaze bore into the eyes of the Bakedanuki who stood before her, blood on her misty black claws. The other yokai was best described as a young adult, with ginger hair and silver furred ears. Her tail, however, was a plume of black, wispy, shadowy energy. The arms, hands, and claws of the Bakedanuki were coated in an energy of darkness much like her tail, making them take on a monstrous form. Fresh blood coated the tips of the claws, which brought visible disgust to the pure smoke yokai’s face.

In the Bakedanuki’s right hand was a small cat dangling by the scruff. The seal sable she-cat yielded two tails, each with a white tip, and was barely hanging onto life. Not yet unconscious, but not yet dead, the feline gave labored pants, her heart racing. Fury in the face of the Bakedanuki, the cat was gently thrown towards the Enenra, and landed at the foot of the couch, its blood smearing on the smoky mirror surface of the floors.

“I do not appreciate you waltzing in here unannounced and pushing my apprentice to the brink of death, Izayuki. One cannot enter this realm unless I call them here… or if there is something they truly seek- a wish, perhaps?” Kemuira questioned, before glancing down at the dying Nekomata. Sitting up, the Enenra reached down for the bleeding cat and placed her on her lap. Instantly, a stream of smoke snaked down towards the cat, protruding from the smoking pipe. The feline was shrouded, unseen, in the smoke. As quickly as it came, the smoke left, and the cat once shrouded in it no longer had any visible injuries. Instead, it appeared to be sleeping calmly on the lap of the kimono-wearing woman. Once the seal sable was healed, the Enenra turned her red gaze back to the seething Bakedanuki.

“You should know why I’m here,” Izayuki growled, flexing her darkness-covered claws in anger. The Enenra only blinked as she leaned back on the sofa. “Do elaborate,” Kemuira responded simply, stroking the feline on her lap.

Upon hearing the two words, the enraged Bakedanuki lunged for the demigod, black claws aimed for her throat. Her claws only made contact with the couch, however, as the Enenra and Nekomata vanished in a plume of smoke. As quickly as they left, Izayuki whipped around to see Kemuira standing only a few meters away, with the cat nowhere to be found. “I especially do not appreciate you waltzing in here unannounced, almost killing my apprentice, attacking me, and ruining my furniture. What have you to say for yourself, little Bakedanuki?” the Enenra asked gravely, her tone relaying a darker edge.

“See for yourself,” Izayuki hissed. “The monster right before you.”
“I know what I am looking at,” the Enenra responded coolly, her face showing little emotion. “And I ask, why have you come here? I know you want something from me, so out with it.”

“Unmake this monster. This thing I’ve become. This madness, anger, despair… this hideous form,” the Bakedanuki muttered through clenched teeth. She was fighting desperately to maintain at least a semi-human appearance. Provoked any further, and she was certain that her current form would be lost too, to the shadowy monster.

“Was that not your mother’s job? Speaking of which, where is Miss Rika Riyoshi, or rather, Rika Riyasu?” the Enenra asked, copping a slight smirk upon seeing the Bakedanuki finally come clean. “It appears Inteus has proven successful in his quest.”

“So, you know what happened, then,” Izayuki growled again, a snarl rising from the back of her throat.
“Of course I do. Inteus would never have been able to do so without my assistance,” the Enenra replied.

Her answer sent Izayuki into another wave of fury. The Bakedanuki lunged for the smoke yokai again, only to once again feel her claws meet empty air. The Enenra was now behind her, expression as unamused as ever. “Keep that up, and it will cost you,” Kemuira warned gravely while the red headed woman whipped around, crimson eyes blazing.

“You come to me, disgusted with your true yokai self… a form you would have always had, had it not been for your mother. Inteus freed Rika, and freed you as well. Do you really hate it that much?” the raven-haired woman continued, taking a few steps towards the Bakedanuki. “His cost for learning how to remove your mother’s spirit was great. You should be thankful.”

“If I don’t use every ounce of my power and consciousness, I revert to that thing. I lose control of my mind, logic, and emotions. I can only rely on pure instinct and a lust for blood,” Izayuki snapped back. Being thankful for such a curse was not an option for the young Bakedanuki. She continued, her voice subdued and softer. “My father only did that out of selfishness… he wanted my mother’s spirit.”

“If you wish to see it that way,” Kemuira commented, stopping right before the tanuki. “Do you not wish to go through the motions to control your transformation? What you are asking me is to skip the needed training and discipline to get what you want right away, is it not?”

The tanuki girl clenched up at the Enenra’s observation. In a way, she was right. At the same time, the mononoke did not know how she could try taming that inner monster. It had been many, many months since the incident in the House of Lost Souls. By this point, there were no answers to be discovered. Kemuira was her last option.

“I am. I have a guild to lead and a family to return to. I don’t need this in my way,” Izayuki said, her eyes locked on the floor, as she dared not meet the Enenra’s eyes.

“My help requires payment. If you wish to cheat reality, there must be a price to balance. What you are asking for is no simple task. The cost will be great. Are you sure you wish for that? Are you really that desperate?” Kemuira asked, standing taller than the slouched Bakedanuki.

“Whatever you want; whatever is required, I’ll pay it,” Izayuki said, tensing up once more as she felt the transformation grow. The darkness coating her arms was spreading to her shoulders, and the darkness plume tail grew larger. She did not have much time before she would completely transform, and likely attack anything in sight in her rage. Logically, she knew that she was no match for the semi-divine Enenra, but since when did a monster need a reason to attack what was before it?

“The cause of this was the removal of a seal on your negative memories. The price will be a good memory. If that memory is a place, you will lose the knowledge of where and what it is. If it is a person, most of the influence that person had on you will be gone, and their image and name erased from your mind. If it is a concept… you will lose all touch with it, and how you came about it; a concept includes any skills or abilities you know,” Kemuira explained steadily, her voice holding no emotion.

Izayuki blinked, attempting to think about what was said, while still avoiding the encroaching darkness within her mind. It was a gamble. Fortunately, nothing within her magic could count as a good memory, so she would not be helpless. But what if she forgot her guild, or somebody close to her?

The darkness came closer. She had to choose to accept the offer or to decline it. There was no choice, really. “I’ll pay that price. Stop this darkness!” she shouted, both in desperation and pain as she fought back the beastly whispers from within. Light tears welled in her eyes. She could tolerate this no longer; she hated the monster, the yokai, that she was.

Just as she felt herself slipping away once more, Izayuki felt something reach out for her. A light, quiet, gentle stroke while her vision blurred away. Though she was left in silence, the Bakedanuki could feel the darkness rolling away slowly. At the same time, she felt another sensation-- the feeling of something slipping away; but she could not figure out what that something was.
The darkness from inside and outside began to ebb away, while something else melted from her mind, fading out ever so gently. Before she realized it, she could see the room of the smoke yokai again. The Enenra sat elegantly on the sofa once again, with Izayuki standing before her, the darkness transformations of her body no longer present. Once more, she had a clean fluffy tail, silver-furred ears, and natural claws.
“Consider the payment complete. The bothersome aspects of that monster, the negative memory effects, have been bound by the string of the good memory taken. You still have access to the form, but it is yours to control. If you ever find those good memories again, the bonds on the monster will be broken, and you will have to face your true self much like anyone else in your position,” Enraenra spoke softly but audibly, conveying the details smoothly to the young Bakedanuki. “Any questions?”

Izayuki took a step forward, mentally testing herself to see if the darkness was really gone or not. She could sense something there, darkness, but well hidden away and chained up, in a mental pit she dared never enter. “Only one, not concerning this matter,” the Bakedanuki stated. “My father… what was his price for what he did to me and Rika?”

Kemuira blinked curiously, partially surprised at the question. “Though I generally do not disclose the contracts of others, perhaps it is right for you to know. And for one reason only.”
The Enenra reached out an arm, and with one porcelain white finger, pointed at the tanuki girl. “Surely you have realized it by now? The two extra souls within you, not counting the ones involved in your sorcery. The children of you and that human. Inteus promised me the life of one of his descendents. I will choose the firstborn of his and Riyoshi blood.”

The Bakedanuki’s pupils dilated in horror as the words of the smoke Mononoke instantly sunk in. She was pregnant… with two children… but beyond that, Izayuki could remember nothing. “Whose…” she found herself trying to remember, only to be met with a sharp flash of pain and fear among doing so; a snap in the memory chain binding the energy of darkness within her mind.

“Careful now. Do not pry too far, searching for answers in your past, or that monster you despise so much will make an unwelcome comeback,” the Enenra warned grimly, before quickly adding her final details. “No more questions; no more requests. If I catch you in my realm again without me summoning you, I will kill you myself. No person with Riyoshi blood is permitted here unless they are chosen by me.”

The smoke in the room thickened once again, to a point where nothing was visible-- not even the light. “Wait--” Izayuki cried out, before feeling her voice cut off by choking coughs from the smoke. Her closing eyes and nose burned, and her ears could not detect any noise. Once the smell of asphyxiating smoke subsided, she re-opened her crimson eyes. The feeling of dead grass and dirt was below her, and foreboding, ominous skies stretched above. She was undoubtedly back in earthland, but not in any familiar territory. The terrain reminded her of the vibe she felt while in the cursed lands, and with that trace of knowledge, it led her to assume that this was unfriendly territory.

Overhead, griffins were circling, and the sounds of battle and the cries of monsters could be heard from afar. A hostile environment indeed; however, the young Bakedanuki found herself unable to move. A repercussion of traveling through astral planes, space, and time all at once. As she recalled, her first visit to Kemuira Enraenra’s realm had been no different. For now, she would rest quietly, barely conscious, while praying to whatever benevolent deities were out there that she would be safe from the raging monsters in the distance.

    The White Witch

In the dead of the night, a single scream would echo through out the empty house, reflected by the pure white walls that held no furnishings or decorations what so ever. The vibration of space would reach no one’s ears, as they were firmly confined within the building and it’s only residence being an uncaring omnibox, a magcat and the White Witch. A girl with pure white hair, pure white eyes without any pupils and pale skin. An unusual existence cursed by the blood of Margery, a mighty witch of the past that was no more, but her lineage still ran strong in the world of Earthland.

So what was it about the scream? The young female sat on her bed, fully embraced by the darkness both inside and outside, as there was still plenty of hours before Sun’s triumph over the night. Her breathing was heavy and the covers still provided a sense of warmth and protection to her lower body, indicating that she was sleeping peacefully until just a moment ago. The scream belonged to her. And her entire body shivered, the girl suddenly realizing that her equally white pajamas were completely drenched, as wet as if she had jumped into the bath in them.

Her whole body was covered in her sweat as if she had just run a marathon. Her eyes felt heavy and her hair was just a big, oily mess due to all this. A few days ago, the girl started having strange and terrifying dreams almost every night. Nightmares that would constantly haunt her, yet would not reveal themselves after the fact. Every time she woke up like this and tried to think, but she could not remember what her dreams were about. She only knew that they were scary enough for her body to sweat this much and then wake up before the dawn, usually screaming at the top of her lungs.

It was starting to take a toll on the girl’s small and fragile form, black lines starting to appear beneath her eyes by now. But she still tried to just shake it all off and continue on with her day. Using the extra time she got due to all this to fix herself, she would always take a shower and properly fix her hair, as well as wash her pajamas and leave them to dry for the evening or at least the next day.

And just like that, she would again see the Sun’s warm rays spill over onto the world, the morning welcoming any and all. It gave her the energy and will to continue, instead of trying to fall back onto the bed and sleep again. A behavior like that was actually something the girl was a bit scared of, as she had lost on a fair bit of adventures and events in the world due to the small time period where she felt completely useless, being removed as an Ace of her guild. She would sleep for most of the days then.

But that title was actually now back in her hands, making her feel like she was doing something right. A motivation she very much needed, as it was one of the few things keeping her going aside from Seth’s will. The strings of the puppeteer were still firm and ruling the entirety of her life, and she still did not mind. After all, most of her life before she learned of Seth’s existence was comparable to nothing. Eleven whole years of being stuck in a single building that only consisted of five pure white rooms. No family and no friends, no nothing.

Seth fixed all of that, as they took control over Charlotte’s entire existence. Or at least that was how she saw it all. The truth of everything was still a factor very much unknown to the young white witch, but she made no real attempts at finding out. As far as she was concerned, she was but a doll with no actual free will that belonged to an unknown puppeteer. But she was still having fun and her existence was fulfilling, she was happy with that statement and did not want it to change in the least.

Now, the life slowly started returning to the streets of Rose Garden. Unlike most other towns, this one lived during the night almost as much as during the day, but it was still nice to see freshly rested people leave their homes and stretch on the fresh air. Charlotte wished to do the same, as she opened the main door to her home. But something quickly caught her attention. A small, yet fancy envelope laid on her doorstep, the girl quickly recognizing who it was from just from its appearance.

She had already received one of these in the past. It was from the Magic Council. While her guild saw that organization as somewhat questionable, Charlotte loved and adored everyone equally, meaning she had no negative feelings toward the rulers of the magical world. Taking her time to read the formally written words, she quickly grasped their meaning and instantly knew what was required of her. Normally, she would have gone straight to the Silver Moon Inn after her morning routine, but it seemed that today would be a bit different to that.

Once more would the magic council perform a duty call to all mages in its reach. Last time it was because an army of monsters was advancing in Fat Monsterland. And as a cleric, the young white witch was called forth to support an attack force which would eliminate one of the enemy groups, as well as tend to the wounded on the battlefield. Thankfully, their mission was a success in the end and the monsters were pushed back. However, winning a war was never as simple as that, especially in the world where magic could make even the wildest of imaginations into reality and change the events of history forever.

As many were afraid, defeating the advancing army was not enough. Even if their forces were no longer advancing and aiming to conquer the human world, the monsters were still there, trying to recover and try again. Or at least that seemed to be what the council was thinking. And so, they have decided that this time it would be them to make the push and try to rid themselves of these evildoers. While Charlotte didn’t quite agree with that mentality, she would not refuse a request to head out into the battlefield and help the wounded. Humans and monsters alike.

Such was the girl’s conviction and no one could rightly stop her from doing what she wanted to do. To her, all lives were equal. Even the enemy was worth saving, no matter how bad they would seem and how many bad things they wanted to do or already did. Taking a deep breath, she had already memorized the coordinates that came along with the letter. The council was well aware of the power that her blood brought to her, the blood that once flowed in the veins of the great White Witch Margery. And with it, she had absolutely no problem just teleporting into the war-consumed area.

A rather useful ability for a healer that could save lives at moment’s notice. And so, she would run back to her house and change into her ‘combat-ready attire’ in a flash. The girl would then mentally prepare herself as she clutched her ivory white staff. With her soul and determination as strong as steel, once again she would close her eyes and imagine the elsewhere she was required to reach. And in a whirl of white light, she would just vanish from her room like a ghost. The same white portal would appear near a burned down forest, spitting the white witch out onto the dead land.

Her landing wasn’t exactly the most graceful, as she fell to her knees but at least kept her face from being planted in the dirt. The scenery was all too familiar in this broken world, but she would not let that distract her too much. She knew full well that there were people who needed help here. In fact, she already felt a powerful magical signature near her current location. And strangely enough, it felt very familiar to her. Getting up, she would rush over to where the magical power was coming from only to stop in front of a female she knew very well.

M… master?!” She would let out the voice from her depths, very clearly surprised to see her guild’s leader in this place. She thought that Izayuki hated the Magic Council and would never help it with something. In any case, she would quickly come to her side and fall onto her knees once more, leaning over the Bakedanuki. In her hand would appear a white tarot-like card that depicted a young male working the field, only so that it would quickly fall apart into ethernano. But in that moment, Izayuki’s body would start being filled with energy, all her potential injuries and lack of stamina quickly going away. “A… are you okay…?” She asked rather timidly. It seemed that she did not yet notice the monsters flying and roaming about.

Gryphons circling above, surely they could sense the uncanny energy below. Something that was not supposed to be here, nor should be able to thrive in this world. Yet it did-- the source was alive, but not active. The keen gryphon could sense such a thing, and began to scan the burned lands below for any sign of its quarry. It had been informed of these sorts of anomalies, beings without a true place in the world. Some simply were not from this patch of the worlds and planes, while others were born as a confused mix, unable to find a true place in the world.

The monster knew where it belonged and knew how to lead. It was a general in this army of monsters, setting up base in Fat Monster Land. They had yet to move anywhere, however, and a council of wizards had already deemed them a threat that needed to be dealt with. Even the Cursed Lands could not be left alone for too long. The birdlike monster was a unique one of its kind, with a white body, silvery fur with darker rosettes, and black dotted white wings. If one were to describe it as a mix of two animals, they would see it as none other than a clash of a snowy owl and snow leopard. It wore glittering golden armor, with streaks of silver within the well-forged metal; not just anything would be able to pierce its protection. The griffin was massive, yet fast, and had no time to delay. The mages killing their army below had to be stopped at all costs, or else there had never been a point in gathering the monsters to the cursed lands.

The griffin was wary of her quarry and sought immediate destruction to the one whom she sensed. The snowy owl monster only knew the anomalies to be bad, with past tragedies illustrating a glorious image of taking them out in her head. The boss of the monster generals was none other than Syriana, a pale feathered creature from the far north. Her home in the north had been overrun by those anomalies, the creatures from Nazo and other worlds and planes… the beings that would deny the logic of one’s very existence. The owlish griffin could remember the days she spent mostly on her lonesome, with few friends to speak of. Of her few friends, however, some were close. Notably, a wolf, a great Myrulv of Fenrir’s descent, who had put Vintermyr behind her.

A lone wolf, and one much unlike the others. She was weaker and no good at hunting large prey on her own. Instead, the canine appeared to have a hidden admiration and respect for the hooved prey animals. Even the small and weakened ones were not preyed upon by the lone wolf. The she-wolf had caught the attention of the snowy owl, who approached one day to question the pacifist.

A meeting turned into a philosophical conversation that intrigued the bird of prey. Why would a Mire Wolf that hailed from the frozen swamps of Vintermyr be so different, and so far northeast? The she-wolf introduced herself as Kyran, and noted that she was different from the pack she had left, in search of something more. So far, she had yet to find it, but still had traveled great distances in search of knowledge. Poetry was something Syriana noted the wolf to love. Kyran brought up different lines, songs, and would howl out a tune, laced by the words of the poems she would create.

The snowy owl grew fond of the young wolf, but their days of fellowship and enjoyment would eventually come to an end. A new anomaly existed in the northern icy frontiers of Iceberg. The silver-furred she-wolf would be taken away, captured by the lady of the cold herself. The gods came viciously and were relentless in their capture of the frozen lands. Kyran was taken, and Syriana was left to wander the wilderness on her lonesome once more. At least now she had a goal, something to dedicate her mind to. Friendship was not an important virtue for the leader of an army meant only to destroy. Syriana had new goals, but revenge remained high on the list.
Meanwhile, the Bakedanuki below lightly dozed, too tired to move or pick herself up. Keeping herself in the Enenra’s realm drained her of energy and magic. She was in no condition to move anywhere after traversing planes like that. Mind foggy, Izayuki simply chose to rest, only slightly aware of the imminent dangers circling above and prowling around.

A familiar voice snapped her away from completely falling asleep. At the same time, the Bakedanuki almost visibly cringed at the word used for her. Master was too formal of a title, even if she was the guild master of Black Rose. She was used to her guildmates simply calling her ‘Iza’, her less formal nickname, which had always been her preference.

“Charlotte?” the guild master asked, opening her crimson eyes slowly. She peered out the corner of her eyes at the white-haired mage but did not move beyond that. She simply could not muster the energy to even sit up or turn her face towards her. Izayuki wanted to question why the white witch was there in such a place, but the answer really was self-explanatory. She could recall the magic council requesting the help of mages to venture into Fat Monster Land at one point, and if that was where she was in the cursed lands, it would be no surprise to see legal and possibly other guilds coming to their call.

While the Bakedanuki was not fond of the Magic Council in the least, she could not begrudge anyone who had come to purge the land of the raging monsters. The only reason she had any disdain for the Magic Council was only due to their cowardice and the way they ran things. They were a group of people that hid behind a title of power and could demand whatever they wanted of guilds. If a guild would not affiliate themselves with the Magic Council, the guild was deemed dark in their eyes. While normally the Magic Council would not full on attack a neutral guild, they would still be not trusted and somewhat persecuted.

What made Izayuki loathe them more was how they handled the Kingdom of Navrick with the Infinity Clock. Yes, it was a weapon of mass destruction and better to be scattered, but what threat did the kingdom have to pose? The Magic Council summoned all legal guilds and even some mercenaries to their side, along with the Rune Knights. Together they attacked Navrick. To try to get to the bottom of it, Izayuki had assumed her Kitsune identity and sided with the kingdom under invasion. The cowardly Magic Council hid away in safety during the battle and pushed good wizards and knights out to the front lines to deal with their fears. Navrick won that battle in the end, but the war was far from over.

She could no longer dwell on her disdain, however, as the young mage brought out a tarot card that quickly vanished. As soon as it did, Izayuki felt energy slowly begin to fill her once more. Ever so carefully, the Bakedanuki pushed herself up to a sitting position with her arms, her tail twitching uneasily, as if testing how much she could move with the energy from the healer’s spell now filling her. “I don’t know,” she breathed with a shy smile, before gazing up to meet Charlotte’s white, pupil-less eyes. “But I think I’ll be fine, thanks to that spell of yours.”

Izayuki would have brought up another question, had she not felt the air stir so ominously. With quick perception and fair speed, the Bakedanuki lunged forward at the white-haired mage, aiming to tackle and push both of them out of the range of the swooping griffin. The snowy owl’s large and dangerous talons ripped through the ground, sending dirt and dust flying. Had they not dodged in time, the outcome would not have been pretty. The griffin used the traction it gained from holding onto the ground and landed its feline back legs on the ground, using its airborn momentum to whip around and face the two Black Rose magicians.

Syriana released a deafening screech both as a threat and out of anger at the miss. The loud owl’s scream made Izayuki flinch back, her ears sensitive enough as it was. The angered cries of the monster were painful, worse than the loudest of thunder, but high pitched. With greater speed than the Bakedanuki, the silver-furred and white feathered griffin charged again, aiming a heavy swipe across the clearing with a massive wing.

“Charlotte, watch my back,” the guild master ordered, standing up and clutching one of the many necklaces she wore. This one was in the form of a beautiful ice crystal, but upon being grabbed, took the form of a dagger made of ice. As the wing came forward, Izayuki countered it with a heavy jab with the dagger, Kuraokami. The griffin screeched again, this time in pain as its wing was brought to a stabbing and agonizing halt.

Responding quickly, the griffin hopped back and took flight, this time attempting to dive bomb the Bakedanuki at a speed faster than anything the target was used to. Syriana recognized the dagger as being one of the carved fangs of the draconic rain and weather god, Kuraokami. The fact the yokai had her hands on such a legendary weapon was proof that she was not to be taken lightly. The momentum and strength from having an assist from gravity surely would be too much even for the dagger, however.

Or so the feline-avian thought. At the last minute, the Glacier God Slayer summoned fifty ice shards to surround her, all of them pointing up. Not worrying about speed, the Bakedanuki launched them at the griffin, who would be unable to avoid them with the momentum. The griffin realized this and spread its wings and used its tail to attempt to dodge, but it was too late. The shards penetrated deep, and the now-spread wings were quickly clipped.

The snowy owl-snow leopard mythical had fallen and seemed to be reconsidering the fight. For once, the Bakedanuki was in no mood to make the final blow and instead moved back towards her younger guildmate. “Are you alright?” Izayuki asked, sincerely concerned for her guildmate. The griffin had not been too difficult for her to take down, but it had been recognized as a challenge. The important thing, however, was that everyone was safe.

Syriana was still alive, though allowed herself to act unconscious. She had not anticipated an Ayakashi to have such strength against her, nor to have the type of magic that was displayed. She would have to wait for reinforcements, wait for the enemy to leave, or wait for the ice to break and melt and her wounds to heal.

    The White Witch

Fear and worry. Such were one of the most common emotions that novice healers would feel while performing their duties. So afraid that they would perform their task not sufficiently enough and that the life given to them to care for would slowly flicker away. Vanish into the eternal darkness of death. With time, some would learn how to deal with it. Learn that there were some they just could not save, no matter how hard they would try. And those that didn’t? Those would give up and reconsider their choice of career. Perhaps settle for different ways of helping out. After all, there were so many!

The young white witch could probably not be considered a novice at this point. Her power was growing, despite the girl not really putting in any effort into growing stronger. It could not be helped, as her blood would slowly inch toward awakening regardless of the female’s actions. Perhaps it was because of that, the fact that she wasn’t really still able to rid herself of these feelings. The fear and uncertainty that took hold of her heart. As she saw her guild master try to get up, she would support her as gently as she could, almost breathless for not knowing what was going on with her.

And then, a flicker of pink and red. A spark, oh so full of life and vigor, would rush across the white reflection of Charlotte’s eyes. Hands that felt fragile, yet held a lot of power behind them. They would push into her pale clothes and flesh beneath in such a violent manner, that it was surprising there were no visible marks left afterward. There wasn’t even a warning for any of it, as it all just happened. And in an instant, the young girl found herself lying on her back, embraced by the cold and dead land which was happy to keep her from sinking into this world’s core.

It would take her a moment to put her thoughts into the proper places, realize that her guild master started gaining some strength back and pushed her out of the way. Why? The answer wasn’t too far, the screech getting to the young girl as well. Almost as if waking her up from a muddled dream or a vision, she would notice the beautiful creature that attacked them. It’s shame and form like a work of art, yet it’s intent permeating into the air and earth, a bloodthirsty look in those reflective eyes. How could such a pretty living being harbor so much hate?

A pacifist like Charlotte could never truly understand. Confused and scared, she would take a firm hold of her ivory-white staff and got up, standing only a little bit behind the girl that just saved her life. Izayuki Hyoujin. A name well known, a creature from another realm and the guild master of Black Rose. Despite this common workplace, she and Charlotte yet had to interact in a greater manner. And still, the young white witch would have the same sense of duty for her as for anyone else. “Y…yes! I’ll do my best!

Still a bit shaken, she would agree to her master’s proposition and ready herself. Watch my back. It was not something she would hear very often. Her role was one of support, a healer that would fix one’s broken body both after and during the encounter. It was really all she knew and all she could do, as her offensive abilities more or less did not even exist and her defensive spells were far and few between. Taking all of that, it surely not too difficult to believe that not many would trust this girl to watch their back in life or death situation.

Though, even that risk was gone. Izayuki probably did not know. Not many did, honestly. But Charlotte’s power was absolute in certain areas. The power of White witch’s blood permeated into the air, easily creating an ever-present aura affecting all life in the area. A power that would carry the girl’s wish and not let anyone die, no matter how severe their wounds. In the eyes of warlords, that would be the perfect ability. Protecting them from assassinations, or even allowing their army to advance without any losses. But, of course, the aura saw no difference between an ally and enemy.

For the girl wanted to protect them all. Regardless of their origins, their race, even their intentions. Her conviction, fueled by naivete drove her forward. In the end, she was a puppet, a special existence even for this world. She did not play by the rules set for everyone else. Whether they would be broken and bent for her, the girl danced while attached to strings of power much higher than anything anyone could even imagine. A puppeteer that was above this world, writing its story just like so many others. Always and always.

Was she happy that someone would rely on her? Was she sad that they had to fight? Was she scared that they would fail? She herself did not know. Her feelings were unstable and still swirling in a pool of sterile white, mixed ink-black anxiety. Why was it so? Surely, any sane person would have no need to even think about all this. They would simply go on and do whatever was necessary to ensure their survival. Perhaps such fuel for her actions no longer existed, now that she was aware of her puppeteer and the fact that they would always bring her back to life.

She had an expiration date. And until then, any and all deaths would be but a part of the course. Such a cruel existence. But she did not mind. Death was painful. But only then. While she was alive, she felt just fine, like any other normal human being. She would suffer while dying, but not remember the pain a few days later. And she was happy. Happy to be alive and surrounded by others, contrasting the life she lived before joining Black Rose. Fifteen years spent stuck in a single house, never leaving to see the outside. Only surrounded by the imaginary and mad.

Shaking her head, she would try to place her conviction. Her pure white dress fluttered and danced with the light breeze, its touch caressing her pale and soft skin. Those pure white eyes, which reflected nothing but the white abyss, were directed straight at the creature. She did not see it as an enemy. But they had to ensure survival… right? No. Charlotte did not have to ensure anything like that. She did not want to be part of this fight. But she would help her guild master, for she trusted her and wanted to help when she was asked for help.

The Griffin did not ask her for anything. Right now, that was the difference. If the creature were to be capable of human speech and speak out to Charlotte, she would happily try to assist, heal the other beasts without a second thought. Was that wrong of her? She did not want to think about what was wrong and what was right. Only about things that were. Letting out a heavy breath, she would raise the ivory-white branch of a tree in her hands to the skies. Her staff, the witchtree branch she had gained from her long journey across worlds Seth set her on.

It was a staff that held powerful magic, now connected to her. And as she would rapidly move it back down and stab it into the dead land, a giant magical circle would spread across the battlefield. A wave of white magic would imbue herself and Izayuki with a protective barrier. A power that would negate both pain and actual damage dealt to the physical body. Charlotte couldn’t really watch her partner’s back as others could, so she offer this instead. This way, even if the guild master would be hit, she could stand back up no problem and go on as if nothing had even happened.

The white witch herself was protected like this as well. But in her case, it did not matter as much. After all, her body was very fragile and easily broken, no matter what she tried. So, of course, she planned to stay as far from the actual battle as possible, while still being able to have her magic affect Izayuki in order to help her. Though she didn’t actually know any spells that would amplify another’s power. In the end, healing was her forte. Perhaps that was something to work on in the future. But then again, her power came from her blood. The blood of white witch. Something she could not just adjust to her liking.

She was bound by many strings. The puppeteer, the curse of her lineage, her broken mind. Charlotte really might have been one of the least free individuals in this existence. And so it began. The Griffin would charge and Izayuki would parry it, force the creature back and into the skies. The young girl could not help but stare in awe at it all. The Griffin would then try to dive from the skies, and its speed was truly terrific one. The white witch did not know that her guild master did not require to have speed on her side right now, so she still acted.

Almost as if she was dancing, she moved on the dead grass with her bare feet, her body twirling around as yet another wave of pleasant energy was released. And the moment it reached the Bakedanuki, she would feel a loving warmth all around her, as well as inside of her body. As if washed over by the sun’s rays after a cold morning, it was the Warmth of White Spring that filled her muscles. With it, all of her actions would speed up rapidly. And even if it was not truly needed, perhaps it added some extra edge to the crimson-eyed yokai. And perhaps it was what allowed so many ice spikes to be formed in the first place.

What followed next was almost like a scene from a horror to Charlotte. She watched the beast be pierced by the countless formations of ice, and how its body reacted to pain. Of course, it was not the end for the creature. Even if the attack were to be lethal, the white aura that saved lives was still there, fully in effect. But it was just like that. All over and finished. Izayuki would find herself next to the young girl and ask her if she was fine. To which the white witch only nodded. But contrary to her actions, something most strange happened to her body.

Tears. They would fill those pure white orbs and spill out, adorning her cheeks as they swam down over her pale cheeks, reflecting the light of the distant Sun that made them glisten like tiny crystals, simply rolling down and then falling to the ground. She was no Phoenix and her tears did not bring life back to the dead land. But what they did was make the girl realize just how much she still had to walk before she could truly belong to the world of magic. She was scared after all. And without even asking for permission, she would let go of her staff, allowing it to fall to the ground.

With her hands freed, she threw her body forward and embraced the Bakedanuki, wrapping her arms around the older mage’s body meekly. “I’m sorry… I’m alright. I’m alright.” She repeated the sentence twice, once for the one who asked, and once for herself, as if she was trying to convince her own mind of that fact. She was alright. Not a bruise on her body, safe for ones caused by the fall earlier. But such minor wounds would heal swiftly and in no time, especially with the magic she possessed. Even though she would rarely use it to actually heal herself.

And hug did not last long, either. She would let go and wipe the tears from her face, as she still had her duties. Izayuki appeared to be fine, and still affected by the card that Charlotte used earlier. So even if her guild master had any injuries, they would be already healing by themselves right now. “Please, excuse me…” Her voice was shaking slightly as she created some distance between the two girls and her gaze fell on the nearby beast, lying on the ground and seemingly unconscious, unaware of the world around it.

Gathering her bearings, those bare feet would start walking again, dirty from the ground beneath them. Hopefully, Izayuki would not try to stop her, as this was something she just had to do. One step after another, she fell to her knees and rested right by the Griffin, her hands gently placed onto its beautiful feathers. And the very next moment, her white magic would start entering the beast's body and start healing it. Once again, she would follow her naive and minimalist view of the world. Assisting the enemy that just tried to help, saving them from the injuries their very own party caused.

That was Charlotte. And this was what she wanted to do. Help everyone, regardless of who they were or what they were doing. Because all life was equally precious in her eyes. Or perhaps… this was the will of her puppeteer? Making her save the enemy so that the story could continue? Or perhaps to add some level of drama to this event? The girl did not know. And perhaps she did not even want to know. Bliss was happiness, as long as it remained intact. Confined in the walls of her own mind, the white witch was limited only to her own view of the world.

She did not let anyone else in her world yet. Perhaps it would happen eventually. Perhaps it would not. All of that did not rest on her shoulders. And it did not even necessarily rest on the shoulders of her puppeteer. Her blank stare was soon broken completely, as all of Griffin’s injuries were healed. It still remained unconscious or at least pretended to be. Perhaps it no longer had any desire to fight. Or maybe it recognized that the fight was over and it stood no chance, despite being able to cut the healer into tiny pieces right now, with how close she stood.

But that chance was gone, as Charlotte stood back up and approached her guild master again. “There, all done! Um… you were in a bad shape when I found you, master. I can warp us back to the Silver Moon Inn and make sure you’re okay, if you want.” Picking up the witchtree branch from the ground, the young girl would extend her hand forward and wait. All Iza had to do was take hold of that small, fragile hand. And they would be engulfed by the white light, once more finding themselves in the familiar territory of the guild. Just like that, they would leave all of this behind, their duty fulfilled.

Izayuki Hyoujin ♦ Black Rose ♦ H Rank

Izayuki watched as glimmering tears began to form at the eyes of the small girl-- were they of relief, or something else? Before she knew it, Charlotte had tossed herself forward to embrace the guildmaster, who at first stood there, blinking curiously, as if questioning the action. The hug brought something of a memory back, but it was quickly dismissed with the acknowledgement of the consequences. In return, the Bakedanuki gently put her arms around the small girl, reciprocating the embrace tenderly.

Charlotte retracted, however, and moved on over to heal their foe, the griffin. Though skeptical at first, Izayuki stood back and allowed her guildmate to do the good deed, while remaining on guard in case the beast lashed out at them again. If it did, there would be no mercy round two.

Eventually the girl returned to her side, and the snowy winged beast made no such unfortunate move. Charlotte offered to take them back to Silver Moon Inn, a place that Izayuki had not seen in a long while, after missing in action shortly after her capture by the Onmyoji.

The mention of Black Rose’s base of operation brought forth an idea that had long been in the back of the Bakedanuki’s mind. “Sure, we can head back,” Izayuki said with a smile, walking towards the white-haired child with her hands folded behind her back in a comfortable position. “But first, I have a question. Charlotte, do you know what a mafia is?”

    The White Witch

The girl’s headmaster moved forth and approached, but did not extend her own hand to meet Charlotte’s. No, while she wished to return back, there was something she desired to know first. A question, one that was somewhat puzzling to the young White Witch. Why would she ask this now and in a place such as this? Whatever the reason, the puppet would tilt her head to the side as she recalled what she actually knew of these organizations. It wasn’t a whole lot, to be honest. Most of what Charlotte knew was from her books, some portering information correctly while others being fictional stories.

Unfortunately, the girl was not quite able to differentiate between the two on her own due to the lack of knowledge about the world around her. She had very little experience and it could quite hurt her at times. “Mafia? Um… an evil organization that extracts people of their money, gets into fights over money and performs illegal services!” That was what the books taught her. It was not much, not nearly enough to come to a proper conclusion. And surely, that was the heart of a problem for Charlotte quite often. She had answered what she knew, but what she knew was different from what general public could know.

Still, she appeared rather excited that she was able to answer at all, as if this was some pop quiz for a grand prize. Clearly, she was not used to being able to provide others with what they wanted in this area of life. She could heal wounds of others, but that was about it. When it came to regular life, she was rather clumsy and that lack of experience followed her every step of the way. Even when trying to help in the Silver Moon Inn, she would get embarrassed in front of costumers, sweep the floors wrong or even burn the food she was trying to prepare. That was Charlotte. But at least she was getting better as time went on.

Izayuki chuckled lightly at the small girl’s answer. “You are right in the meaning that the media and stories give to the word. But the actual definition of the word tells us that a mafia is a closed group of people, normally in some specific field, that have a controlling influence,” the guild master replied gently, giving praise to Charlotte’s confident definition, while also informing her of the true meaning.

“I guess if you wanted to be technical about it, you could say that guilds are very akin to ‘mafias’. They have a controlling influence on the magical world,” the Bakedanuki explained, grinning. “Now, with that in mind, what do you know about the Magic Council?”

The question was open ended, but the yokai wanted to see where her younger guildmate stood in her opinions. The Bakedanuki did not hate the Magic Council, but she had no trust in them after what they had done. They had proven to be aggressive towards others, as well as cowards in the face of opposition and danger. Had the young white-haired girl picked up on that fact? The ayakashi was curious, though held no solid expectations. After all, she could barely understand the human mind.

    The White Witch

While Charlotte was a human, she could be seen as something that could not be farther from a regular human being. A girl that inherited the power of a legendary White Witch, a girl that was assigned a puppeteer at the age of fifteen and lost all of her free will, a girl that could see things that were not really there and make them into reality. Was she really just a human. What was human in a world like this? A world covered in magical powers that would warp the principles set by a modern man, drive them into the dirt and twist them until they could no longer return to how they once were.

The young girl listened to her guild master, her expression changing several times throughout the entire monologue to reflect how she was feeling. Surprise, disbelief, happiness, and doubt. It was all there. But in the end, the puppet trusted Izayuki and she was not getting any warning signals from her puppeteer either. It was all but part of her story after all. “So mafia would be an organization of people, but more powerful than just a regular organization? I see…” She wondered why the books portrayed them as evil then? Why make those stories any different to the reality she was told right now?

Before an answer came yet another question. The Magic Council. What did she think of them? That was quite hard to say. After all, Charlotte would not form her own opinion on things all too often. She was far too naive and gullible still, always going with the flow and following what her heart ached for. “They are an organization that is trying to rule over the world of magic and makes sure it has rules that have to be followed, else the whole world could be plunged into chaos. OH! Are you saying that they are like a mafia then?!” She thought she figured it out.

They were a closed organization of people that was in the specific field of magical world and had a controlling influence over it! A genuine smile would appear on the girl’s face as she looked pleased with herself. “And they have sent me here to help people, which lead to me finding and helping you. Which means that if they are like a mafia, then mafias really don’t have to be bad like you’re saying!” Did she connect the dot? Well, she certainly connected some dots together in her jumbled mind. But they were probably not the dots Izayuki wished her to connect.

Izayuki Hyoujin ♦ Black Rose ♦ H Rank

Izayuki nodded with a warm smile as Charlotte echoed and understood what she was explained. A powerful organization of criminals definitely would count as a mafia, but not all powerful organizations were evil. While Charlotte continued to answer the guild master’s questions, the Bakedanuki listened intently. After all, the next bit of information, secrets within the guild itself, would be dependent on the young white-haired girl accepting and understanding the information.

“You would be correct,” Izayuki began again with a proud tone, eager to encourage the young and naive girl. “Though, perhaps at one point, the Magic Council was a good powerful organization. Allow me to enlighten you. Once upon a time there was a kingdom of innocents- a people who had not been proven guilty, but were doing their best to gather the pieces of an ancient weapon. A powerful one.”

Izayuki paused to make sure Charlotte was followed before she continued on. Hopefully, the story approach would work on the young white mage. “The Magic Council was not fond of this action. They wanted this weapon of mass destruction for themselves. So what do they do? They gather all the Rune Knights and the legal guilds and force them to attack this otherwise peaceful kingdom. All while the councilmen themselves sit comfortably tucked away, not engaging in the warfare. They have the guilds do their dirty work. In the end, the Council’s forces lost the war, and many innocent lives were taken.”

The Bakedanuki would stop for a moment, allowing her words to sink in. “Maybe at one point they had good intentions in mind, but now they are more akin to the mafias you have read about in your books-- powerful criminal groups that are evil. They are a group of self serving figureheads who would use others to do bad things,” Izayuki concluded, her voice gentle, yet her words earnest. “So how does a legal guild like Black Rose deal with such an organization?”

    The White Witch

The girl smiled warmly as Izayuki said that she was correct in the way she connected everything together. Though that expression quickly turned into a slightly different one after the guild master started ‘enlightening’ the pure child. Her head was an infinite well of potential and stories that created a vortex of chaos, something that almost no one could orientate themselves in. The story approach was surely better than being blunt about it, yes. But there was already information in Charlotte’s head that would conflict with all of this. For few moments after it was all done, she had closed her eyes and pondered.

Once the lids opened up again to reveal those pure white orbs, staring directly at the bakedanuki, they had a certain look to them. As if determined, but warped ever so slightly. And the words that escaped her lips after were filled with brittle confidence, more so than any before. “Isn’t that… normal? If anyone would be allowed to have a weapon of mass destruction, then surely a lot of people would be harmed later on. Across the history of the world, wasn’t it common for those in the leading position to distance themselves from the battle at all cost?

She blinked few times, almost as if she was confused where the problem was. “Those on the top of specific groups usually do not focus on their raw power, but instead on their mind. So in order to win conflicts, they have to rely on someone else to fight for them, while they become the brains of the operation from the back line. If they were to be destroyed, then the front forces would lose their chain of commands and quickly succumb to loss as well. ” She gestured with one of her hands lightly as she explained what she learned from several books in her room.

Though at the end, her expression saddened again. “But not every battle can be won, because there will always be someone better than you, no matter how good you become. Darius said that before he had to go on a journey where he would be bested…” Whether seeing reality through the eyes of a book that Izayuki herself probably never read was good or bad had to be yet decided for the young White Witch. But in any case, she pushed few seeds of her own into the soil of their conversation, two different wisdoms clashing against each other. Which one was right? Was there ever a right one?

Izayuki Hyoujin ♦ Black Rose ♦ H Rank

Izayuki indeed was an avid reader. In the little bits of free time she received in the guild, she enjoyed taking trips to the library. Reading had been something the tanuki always enjoyed, ever since she had figured out human words, and had been taught by humans of the written language itself. Her personal favorites were normally geography books. The colorful maps were always astounding to study, and reading up on culture usually was interesting.

Now, however, life was not a fairy tale. She listened patiently to Charlotte’s point of view with the familiar warm smile, comfortably twitching her fluffy silver tail as she did so. “A weapon of mass destruction that had yet to pose a threat. For all we know, Navrick could have been protecting it from greedy hands-- they were a peaceful kingdom that initiated no war,” she gently corrected. “What if they wanted the weapon for protection~?”

“What you say is true. Often the minds and the strategists stay in the back, while the warriors linger on the frontlines. However, who was giving orders in that war, on the side of the mages? The General on the battlefield was. And fortunately for him, he ordered retreat before any more innocent mages could get hurt,” the Bakedanuki explained. “The Magic Council was silent.”

“When you lead a group of people, like I do, you have to be prepared to fight alongside them. It is wrong to use others to fight your battles, while you sit behind and watch,” Izayuki continued, bringing her argument to a conclusion. “The Magic Council declared war on a peaceful nation, and used the legal guilds as their own tool of mass destruction. The guilds were forced to take innocent lives, and the lives of many innocent mages were taken. This kingdom eventually drove the Rune Knights and guilds to retreat, but not without both sides suffering many losses that could have been avoided.”

“My point is, this group of significant controlling influence, the Magic Council, is not fit to lead the legal guilds,” Izayuki explained, her tone and expression slightly more serious than before. “The only way to peacefully resolve such an issue is to become the new influential force. Sway the opinions of the Magic Council, and eventually see them replaced or reformed to the leading group that the guilds need, while perhaps giving a lot of freedom back to the guilds.”

Izayuki paused once more to let her words sink in. Charlotte brought up good points, but the guild master’s personal point was on the topic of the Magic Council itself. They were corrupt, and did not abide by the honorable ways the white-haired child mentioned. If they did, Izayuki likely would have held a better opinion of the group.

    The White Witch

Charlotte could not help it but to try and see the world in a much positive way than it really was. To see good where there was none. To see positive in all the negative. Some would say that was a good thing, having such a positive outlook on the world. But in this girl’s case, it was the opposite of good. For it was not even her choice anymore. Even if she wanted to see what was right in front of her, that corrupted brain resting inside of her head would process things however it wanted, in order to protect itself. In order to protect Charlotte from a complete meltdown and self-destruction.

Who precisely was Charlotte? What was known at this point was the fact that she was a girl abandoned by her parents right after birth, left alone in an empty home as the pair ran away from the city, never to return. And the girl with strange powers that scared her parents so much was to perish from hunger alone, in an empty house. However, that did not come to pass. Instead, she was cared for by a creature that no one else could see, the Observer. A tall man dressed in black and often wearing a goat’s skull as a mask. And along with him, there was the rest of the house.

A building that was starting to fall apart after all the years of no maintenance. But what did the girl see? A beautiful and pristine home that was as white as she was. All those years in complete solitude before the puppeteer even showed up probably drove her insane in a way. Her mind had developed a defensive system that would completely filter out all negative and only leave, or even create, positive things that she could focus on. And that’s how she came to be, an unreliable narrator with powers that would allow her mind to flourish on magic.

It was this system in her head that activated when she went to those ruins and her party encountered Harper along with his bloodthirsty bandit group. It happened many other times, but it seemed that in certain cases, she was able to suppress it and live a normal life for but a moment. But that did not seem to be the case right now, as a strange high-pitched noise filled her head and froze her figure completely. And once the noise finally disappeared, all that remained were few words of the Guild Master, jumbled together to form sentences that she did not even utter.

The girl blinked few times at the lady in front of her in confusion and then shook her head. “Yes, Black Rose is an amazing guild! I’m sure it will only grow more popular!” The legal guild already appeared to be a pretty good leading force in the world of magic, as it’s member base was quite large and very pleasant to the young white witch.

Izayuki Hyoujin ♦ Black Rose ♦ H Rank

    Well, that was weird.

Charlotte showed little reaction to the long dialogue that the guildmaster had to give. No two cents, no direct agreement or opposing opinions… just a mostly neutral, but positive, statement in favor of Black Rose.

Though Izayuki vaguely noticed Charlotte blanking out, she decided against addressing it and went along with what the small girl had to say. “That’s the plan. We take the place of the Magic Council and become the most influential group of magicians. Essentially, we become a mafia.”

The Bakedanuki then smiled once more and placed a finger over her lips as she winked at the young girl. “But it’s a secret, okay? You mustn’t let anyone outside of our little mafia family know~” she said, flicking her silver tail back and forth happily.

If Charlotte did not agree to the idea, it would have required a different course of action. Fortunately, the small white witch seemed to understand what was going on, and somehow agreed, even if she had seemingly blanked out. Then again, perhaps the guild master had simply used too big of words, and the young one did not fully understand, but still did her best.

There was only one thing left. Izayuki clasped her hands together in front of her, and around them, a light green blaze formed around her fists. Upon opening the clasped hands, in one of her palms was a shiny green leaf. It was a perfect leaf, with no flaws whatsoever, despite being completely organic. The leaf was not so easily destroyed either, no matter how hard one might try to break it, nor would it ever wilt.

“This is for you,” she would say, handing the girl the small tsukumogami leaf. “It’s a special leaf. If you call for me while holding it, I will come to you. Use it if you are ever in trouble.”

    The White Witch

Charlotte remained silent for a moment until her guild master showed the well known gesture and said this had to be kept secret from the outside world. Why did it have to be kept a secret if they were not doing anything bad? The girl didn’t quite understand, but she accepted it for now, nodding in agreement. Though soon after, she hanged her head low for a moment as her expression became somewhat saddened. Today was a strange day with a lot of new information being directed at her. And the poor child did not quite know how to deal with it all at once. There was just one thing she had to ask.

You just want to take their place by becoming more popular… right? You don’t want to hurt anyone along the way… promise?” Not only as a healer but also as an innocent child, the White Witch was was against the idea of forcing their way up the ranks. If they would take the council’s spot by harming others, then would they even be any better than the council Izayuki described? Either way, the girl wished for a promise, even if it might have been an empty one. She didn’t want to see anyone suffer, be it at the hands of her guild or a complete stranger. And that never changed.

What seemingly perked her up was the leaf, however. Her posture would narrow again as her pupil-less eyes became affixed at the beautiful piece of green. As it was handed to her, she would take hold of it very carefully, as if it was one of the most fragile things in this world. Somehow, she couldn’t quite look away from it. It was her first time seeing such an item, despite it’s appearance being similar to any other regular leaf. But this one was special, as her guild master explained. Finally being able to tear her gaze away, Charlotte look up at the other female with a bright smile again. “Thank you, I will treasure it!

Izayuki Hyoujin ♦ Black Rose ♦ H Rank

Promises. Those were sacred in the eyes of a yokai. Many ayakashi could be eternally bound by a promise or oath, while humans brushed them off as idle words to eventually be forgotten. “That’s right,” Izayuki replied with a nod. “I plan for Black Rose to take their place by becoming more popular, and without violence. But if they attack us first, I can’t promise we won’t respond with action. However, I will do everything in my power to avoid having to hurt anyone. That I can ‘promise’.”

At Charlotte’s reaction to the bright and unblemished leaf, Izayuki flicked her tail happily, reflecting the smile of the young girl on her own face. “Please do, and don’t lose it. Keep it on you at all times,” the yokai suggested, the leaf itself being an important promise. The oath of an obake was a powerful one, that was not to be taken lightly. While she did not know if the child realized the importance of it, she at least could make do with idle suggestions on how to use it and what to do with it.

"Ready to go home?" the guild master asked, extending her hand to the little girl. She knew that Charlotte could whisk them back to Silver Moon Inn with her own magic and that for once, a long day of travel would be out of the question for the Bakedanuki and the child.

    The White Witch

Promises were something almost sacred to Charlotte. Her innocent and childish mind saw them as the absolutely level of trust that could surely never be betrayed, lest you shall be punished by the gods themselves. And certainly, in her case it might have been so. After all, she was surrounded by all kinds of strangeness that would seep into reality from her mind alone. And every word that she were to utter could have a greater meaning in the perspective of a bigger story. Regardless, she was very happy and satisfied with the fact that her guild master could promise that her guild would strive to the top through peaceful solutions.

And honestly, the young white witch was already noticing the silver tail waving from one side to another with glistening eyes. She oh so wanted to touch it, see how it might feel for but a single moment. Thankfully, she was quite a composed one, able to restrain herself from any acts devoid of proper control over her own body and mind. So instead, she would simple nod and smile at the suggestion of going ‘home’. In this case, the Silver Moon Inn was dubbed as such. Shame that for Charlotte, there was no real home, as even the building she lived in was an accursed epicenter of disasters waiting to happen.

As Izayuki extended her hand forward, so would the white witch. And the moment the tips of their feminine fingers touched, a white light would bind them both. For but a moment, the scenery around them would change to an infinite desert of white sand. And before they could even blink, they were indeed in the very familiar inn. Charlotte would retreat her body from the guild master, hoping that her touch did not insult the higher being in any way. But she would remember the soft sensation of another’s bare skin for a while. Though, as of right now, she had realized one pretty important detail she had been neglecting thus far.

I… I was supposed to run around the Fat Monsterland and help anyone injured! P..please excuse me!” Remembering her duty that she should not take lightly, the girl would perform her world-shaping trick once more, only to disappear in the thin veil of paster white magic, leaving the bakedanuki to her own devices. But at least she was home and did not have to travel anywhere else for the day, unless she chose to, of course. It was still, without a single moment of doubt, a very fruitful journey for them both, one that could start yet another story if they so chose. And if the puppeteers were to mold in for their own entertainment.
