A Wizard's Grace (Job)

As the train rolled across the track towards the farming village, a young Fairy Tail wizard was sitting alone in his seat reading books about ancient magics. He was trying to learn all that he could, attempting to commit some of the more difficult spells to memory so that he could use them in conjunction with his memory make magic. His long blonde hair was tied back in a ponytail so that his vision wasn't obstructed, and his mouth was twisted into a smile the entire time. The clothes he wore looked clean and crisp, his orange and black jacked with the Fairy Tail symbol on the right arm sitting overtop of his black mesh shirt. There were a pair of swords crossed against his back that he trained with quite often. As he pulled into the village and got off of the train, Mitsuo Takahashi made his way towards his next job with a spring in his step...

The sun was high in the sky, beating down over the once bountiful fields of the village known as Beanstalk Village. Mitsuo had been told that it was quite a beautiful village for the most part, though right now he was finding that quite difficult to believe as he looked across the baren fields and the decay that was in front of him. He took it all in, not wanting to forget a single thing, as the next time he came here he was hoping that this area would be a lot nicer. As he waded his way through the fields he was shocked at the sheer desolation of the once green area. All that was around was brown and gray, death and decay prevelent in the entire area.

Mitsuo hated to see such a crime against nature existing and knew that there had to be something that he could do. As he stepped through the fields of the village, his senses finely attuned to the happenings around him, he heard strange rumblings happening behind him, wondering if this was what he was here to find. It he was so lucky, it would make it easier for him to quickly get to the bottom of this atrocity.

As he continued to walk around he felt as though he was being watched, a feeling that made him extremely nervous, especially considering that he knew there was nobody around him. He drew the swords from his back, holding one in each hand and moving slowly and more cautiously so that he could make sure he didn't get jumped. His keep sense of hearing generally made that more difficult, but he still didn't want anything to catch him unaware. When he continued his patrol he heard the rumblings get louder and louder until eventually he saw them, the odd monsters that he had been sent here to investigate. They were emerging from the ground right by Mitsuo's feet as he jumped back to make sure they wouldn't be able to trip him up.

'Monster Dice' :

When he saw it rise from the ground he almost couldn't believe his eyes. There were ten massive broccoli monsters who had risen out of that hole in the ground. It was shocking to see and he committed it to memory before attempting to get some space from the massive monsters. He wasn't sure how to go about the situation, but he assumed that his swords would prove most useful in such a situation. One of them was close by so he went for that one first, exploding on it in a flash of steel, attacking it from all angles with his sword, left thrust, right slash, left slash from the right side, right thrust left chop. The broccoli monster didn't last against the assault, and Mitsuo had confirmed exactly what he had expected. He smiled, but then noticed something that was slightly less appealing happening around him.

He had heard it happening but still was too focused on his one enemy, but several of the other monsters were surrounding him. As he finished off the first he dodged one charging him, but that led him right into a second which shoulder charged him. He was staggered and saw more rushing at him, trying to sidestep and swing at as many of them as he could, but taking the odd bump as they would rush past him. He knew this was going to be a nightmare task.

Mitsuo was managing to get in more strikes than he was taking, which was good as these broccoli monsters weren't letting up. He knew that he was eventually going to get tired, these guys were pretty tough and he was having a lot of issues with them. He continued to slice and dice, eventually cutting a few of them down, making sure none of them had a chance to sneak up on him and keeping his ears on the hunt constantly. He unfortunately didn't know any useful spells that would help him out of this situation, but he was determined to keep chopping them down to size. When he had them down to five out of the original ten he felt one of them slam into him, dizzying him before another knocked him off of his feet and one of his swords went falling away. They started running towards him and he got up as quickly as he could, running over to his other weapon, one of the monsters cutting him off as he tried.

He took the sword he had into both hands and used that for one powerful sweeping strike, slicing the monster in twain and rolling past it onto the ground on his shoulder, picking up the other as he did so. He got back to his feet, having another of the monsters crash into him and nearly knocking him off of his feet again. He caught his balance and gave a double slash with both swords to dice the monster.

Mitsuo was getting worn down, he had trained often and his stamina was decent, but pells don't generally hit back. He had trained several times on multiple pells, making sure that he'd be prepared for several targets, which at the moment was serving him extremely well. There were only three of them left, all of them having at least a few notches in them. Mitsuo could feel the ground rumbling below his feet again, the sound that had happened before these monster's emergence sounding once more. He had to finish this one fast as he didn't want to be overwhelmed. He charged towards the one in front of him as all three were charging towards him. As he ran he made sure to go off towards the side of the monster, hoping its momentum would keep it going straight. He veered off at the last second to the right, his left sword slicing through as he spun on his heel, and the right sword coming to chop in cleanly in half.

The other two didn't give him much time to react, both of them still charging towards him from behind. He ran towards them making sure that he would end up right between the two of them as he ran with his swords on either side, striking both of them right along the middle and then spinning around to hit both again. He chopped them down to size and they fell to the ground as the next wave of enemies made their emergence, not giving Mitsuo a chance to catch his breath. He fortunately wasn't too injured, mostly a couple of bruises and scrapes, but he imagined it would only get worse before this fight was over.

'Monster Dice' :

The rumblings stopped suddenly as Mitsuo was rubbing his head, which was quite sore. He had a bit of a headache, something that was never a good sign for him. The fact that the rumblings had stopped worried him a little bit, as he was expecting to see more enemies. He took a few steps before feeling something that felt...wrong. Appearing across the field from him was a person clad in all black, their face hidden by a large hood. There was no way for Mitsuo to know what they truly looked like, but he had a strong feeling that this was the person he had come to this village to take care of. As he looked at the wizard he yelled out to him.

"You there, who the hell are you?" no answer. "I've been sent here to stop whatever demented thing it is you're doing to this poor village." still nothing. "I'm a Fairy Tail wizard, and it would be best if you were to give up right now, otherwise I'm going to have to take you down!" He noticed that for the first time it seemed as though the wizard was moving, their body shaking. He almost thought it was fear, until he heard the oddly distorted laugh coming from the wizard's mouth. Mitsuo ran towards him, ready to attack as all he heard was a shrill yell of "SILENCE!"

When he noticed that the wizard was casting a spell at him, Mitsuo put his finger to his temple, saying "memorize" quietly under his breath as he ran towards the dark wizard. He rushed him, swords out and leapt at him, swinging for his shoulders to neutralize him as the dark wizard ceased to be where Mitsuo had originally thought he was. He appeared behind Mitsuo, hearing the stab come towards him as a dagger went past his head. Mitsuo spun on his heel with an attack, his swords coming in a double slash into the dark wizard's side. The dark wizard managed to avoid most of the attack, though he couldn't avoid all of it, taking a couple of slices on his left arm. Mitsuo heard an audible hiss of anguish as he connected, and for the first time the hood fell away from the wizard's head. He had a long impressive black beard and piercing brown eyes. He was middle aged, putting him at least fifteen years older than Mitsuo, though he had no idea how old the man actually was.

Mitsuo pressed the attack, moving in for another swing as the man he was attacking began to cast again, his hand reaching towards Mitsuo's left arm. He wasn't sure what he was saying, but as he sent a left hand thrust towards the wizard's right, he was sure as hell hoping that he would be able to hit it in time.

'Block Dice' :

As the wizard finished his spell Mitsuo managed to knock his hand away at the last second, dark magic having pooled on the hand, and a beam firing off into the distance. Mitsuo put his left finger to his temple, whispering "Memorize" before bringing the hand back town to attack once more. He took another left-handed swing down towards the man's right shoulder, the wizard dodging backwards, but not able to stop the right thrust that followed into his left shoulder, the wizard once again recoiling. Mitsuo didn't know what that spell was going to do, and he wasn't sure it would be a good idea to try to use it, but he knew that he at least had some options if he needed to pull something out of his butt.

The dark wizard came at Mitsuo with the dagger that he had in his right hand once more, Mitsuo blocking the strike with his right sword and going for another left thrust, this time the wizard avoiding the thrust, he muttered once more under his breath before letting out a piercing scream which was clearly magically augmented, Mitsuo moving to cover his ears and bringing one finger to his temple once more, muttering out the word "memorize" as he did so.

'Block Dice' :

He managed to cover his ears in time to avoid the awful scream from doing any damage to him. He wasn't sure what the desired outcome of that was going to be, but deafness came to mind. As he took a second while covering his ears, his enemy had a chance to land a quick blow on him with the dagger. He hadn't attacked him fast enough that Mitsuo couldn't react, leaving a nasty cut across his side as Mitsuo countered with a slash to the enemies right arm, slicing his flesh a little deeper than his previous blows as it was a more direct shot. The dark wizard was in pain and Mitsuo knew that he was doing well.

"This is why you don't mess with Fairy Tail. You should have surrendered when I offered... I'll still give you the chance to give up though." He said, sliding his sword back out of the flesh and through muscles in the arm. The dark wizard hissed at him once more.

"I'll never give up to a little Fairy like you. I'll clip your wings child." His voice was somewhat pained but Mitsuo was sure that he had more gas in the tank, which was evident when he started chanting once more, this one being an attack that Mitsuo recognized. He was trying to cast the beam again, and Mitsuo didn't particularly want to find out what that was, trying to reposition himself so that the wouldn't get hit, but also knowing that he had a few trump cards to avoid it if needed.

'Block Dice' :

He managed to dodge the ray once more, rushing behind the dark wizard and instead of throwing a shot with a sword, swinging his foot out to sweep his opponent's lets and knock him to the ground. He didn't quite get all of it though, connecting with his shin and causing it to hurt both of them. His opponent's base seemed to be solid, but it definitely hurt him when he connected. The crunch was undeniable as the dark wizard buckled slightly, but not enough to take him down. He took another swing with the knife, cutting into Mitsuo's leg as he hopped back, stiffling a pained moan and trying to stand normally. The two of them took a second to get back up to normal, the dark wizard starting to cast once more.

As he was casting, Mitsuo ran out to get him with his blades, sinking one into the meat of his right shoulder and causing the dark wizard to nearly lose his concentration, though it didn't happen before he was able to cast his spell, the ray forming on his hand again, this time much closer to Mitsuo. He noticed it at the last moment, and attempted to get away just in the nick of time.

'Block Dice' :

In the last second he managed to get out of the way, an extremely close call. He didn't know what that ray did, but he was sure it wasn't nice. While he was so close he took another swing, his left sword coming down along his opponent's right thigh and slicing deep into him. he spun around with the right to hit again, but the enemy had brought his dagger up to block it. Mitsuo spun backn curious as to what the ray would do if he got it to work, but waiting for the second. He didn't want to exhaust himself too much and this fight had already taken quite a toll on him. He didn't want to get sloppy, as his oppponent had already showed that he could do a lot of damage if he did so.

He kicked his opponent in the stomach and knocked him back, watching as his opponent grabbed his ribs and started muttering again and was preparing for the scream attack again, the one that had caused Mitsuo to lose focus the first time. He ran up to him again, trying to knock his opponent out before the scream came, but when he recognized that it was almost over he brought his hands to his ears again, running back as quickly as he could and kicking up dust while he did.

Mitsuo managed to get his hands up well in time, and he lucked out that the scream didn't deafen him. As he noticed that his breathing was becoming labored and the wound in his side was bleeding fairly steadily, he decided he had to press his attack harder. The enemy was looking worn down as well, his blood flowing from several wounds that he had taken. Mitsuo ran in and took another swing, the enemy blocking it as Mitsuo came in with a second and third, two thrusts to the area of the face as a distraction so that he could kick him again, this time in the knee, buckling his leg. The enemy went down and Mitsuo put the sword to his neck, the tip pointing directly at his Adam's apple while he stood over top of him.

"Surrender, you have no chance of winning. Don't throw your life away." Mitsuo was in a pretty dominant position but didn't notice the leg that was coming to sweep his legs from underneath him, causing him to lose his footing as the dark wizard stood up over him and said "Darkness with consume you little fairy. It's only a matter of time." Mitsuo noticed he was casting, placing his hands together as a bright flash of light lit up impossibly bright in front of him, Mitsuo trying to shield his eyes from the flash.

'Block Dice' :

The flash, while it may not have done anything more than irritated his eyes, did more damage to him than anything else had so far. He did manage to memorize the spell, but as soon as he closed his eyes his opponent took the opportunity to pounce, jumping on him and punching him with a right hook on the left hand side of his jaw. He then took the knife to Mitsuo, which he dropped his sword and wrestled with him over it, rolling him onto his back as Mitsuo tried to keep the advantage. The dark wizard managed to push him off, Mitsuo falling back as he stood back up, holding only one of his swords now, the enemy picking the other one up. Each of them had a sword now, Mitsuo hoping that he didn't know how to use it as well as he did because in the hands of the inexperienced a sword was still their enemies weapon.

As Mitsuo ran back at him, his jaw stinging slightly from the punch, the dark wizard took up a submissive stance, his blade pointed towards the ground in both hands. Mitsuo knew exactly what that guard was, his opponent was smart. As he ran towards him he veered off at the last second as his opponent brought the tip of the blade up into where his stomach would have been had he not dodged, nicking his left arm instead as he ran past, his other hand glowing as he began to cast the ray spell once more, letting it loose as Mitsuo was going past him.

Mitsuo's last minute dodging of the attack made it so he still didn't have to forget it, making him breath a little easier as he spun around and swung again with the sword from his right to left side, his opponent bringing his own sword over his right shoulder into a hanging block to absorb the blow. Mitsuo was impressed, after taking the block he brought his blade back over his head, twisting his wrists and getting the blow offer his opponent's block, sinking the blade into the meat of his shoulder once more and forcing him to drop the sword down. The wizard jumped back, making sure that he was nowhere near Mitsuo's blade as he came back for another attack, pressing forward and playing chase with the dark wizard, who was once again attempting to cast at him.

Mitsuo watched him, seeing him ready for the scream attack and he wasted no time, rushing forward and shoulder charging into him in an attempt to knock him over. The enemy managed to block him, however, and Mitsuo nearly fell forward, bringing his hands up to cover his ears and preparing to cast once more if he needed too. He spun back around to make sure that he wouldn't lose sight of his opponent, seeing that he was letting the scream out at that moment.
