Housekeeping!

It felt good to be back in Clover Town. Magnolia was great but back where his guild was…it felt right.

Eliot Malpirg strode down the main street, his wide grin illuminating the way. Ever since he had joined Blue Pegasus, he had this sense of pride that he just couldn’t wash away. And the people that had joined with him; they all seemed so powerful and exciting. He couldn’t wait to learn about their magic and even team up with them! The very idea caused his hair to rise on end in excitement.

He stopped outside the guild hall, where a small job board had been placed. These were for the lower-ranking mages such as Eliot to find quick jobs and complete them just as fast. And lo and behold one had been stapled to the board. It was a client asking a wizard to help clean their house, as they had gone away on vacation. An odd job for a wizard but…

Hey, it was something to do at least!

He took the job posting and turned around on heel, already excited to get some more work in. He had been constantly out and about, taking jobs between here and Magnolia over the last week. He hoped that showing such dedication would convince the guild master, Zack, to promote him to C rank rather quickly. Though, he thought to himself as he walked, I don’t want to get too far ahead of the other newbies. I want to be their friend and if I rank up too quickly, they won’t want to talk to me.

It may have seemed like a childish thought but Eliot had grown up without any kids his age to mingle with. All of the excitement he got out of his childhood had come from him. Now that he was out in the world and taking responsibility for himself, he also wanted to share his journey with like-minded people. Despite the fact that most of the other guild members were older, he still felt he could fit in.

He had focused so much in his head that he barely realized he had reached the house printed on the job posting. Quickly he walked up the porch steps and to the front door, where he found the key hidden under the mat. With a quick insert and twist, it unlocked and the door swung open.

It was dark but that shouldn’t have surprised him. People going on vacation didn’t usually leave the lights on. It smelled stale, like someone hadn’t bothered to go inside for a while.  How long has this guy been gone? Clearly long enough that his house is starting to settle without him, Eliot concluded as he stepped warily into the home.  The floorboards creaked underneath his boots as he moved into the darkened living room.

So he needs some stuff done. He mentioned having a leaky roof. I did just help Mr. Weatherstein with a roof; might as well continue the trend. He thought as he tried to narrow down what options he had available to him. But since he was inside already, he might as well see if there were any leftover dishes that needed to be washed or maybe trash that-…

Even as he thought the word his boot found a small trash bin that had been knocked into the middle of the floor. His foot got stuck inside of it, the hollow plastic bin reverberating from his impact. And boy did it stink.

“Aw man!”

'Monster Dice' :

Either stirred by his dance with the trash bin or rudely awakened by his exclamation, the flies that had been resting suddenly burst into the air. The loud and constant buzz filled the living room as the tiny annoying bugs began to swarm around the Iron Dragon Slayer. With a trash bin stuck to his boot and his vision nearly blinded by the dark haze swimming before him, Eliot stumbled towards the door with his arms waving all around him.

As he reached the doorway, he tumbled and rolled over himself onto the porch. The flies, satisfied in their beating back of the enemy, hovered near the door frame but didn’t pass the threshold. Eliot snapped his head back to them, annoyance wringing his features. He clamored to his feet, trash bin still wrapped around his leg.
“Oh yeah? You think you’re so tough?” He asked at the insect cloud, waving a fist at them.

The flies, as if to mock him, seemed to buzz in a tone that resembled ‘Uh huh’.

His magic would be useless against flies, he knew that much. Trying to crush the tiny little bugs with a massive iron hammer arm would just look ridiculous and would most likely damage the house. He didn’t want that on his conscious. But even as he began to wonder what other options he had, he noticed a small light hanging from the porch’s overhanging roof. It was off at the moment but given its shape and the metallic grid that covered the lamp, it was most likely a bug zapper. A wicked grin peeled across the teenager’s face as he quickly relinquished it from its home.

Switching it on, he heard the satisfying hum of the electricity flowing into it. Eliot could only be thankful it wasn’t unrestricting electricity or else it would have found its way to his arm and shocked him into numbness. Grinning wildly he thrust the lamp into the thicket of the flies, watching with glee as they moved towards the blue light in absolute hypnosis.

Bzzt! Bzzt! Bzzt! The swarm was reduced to ashes as the bug zapper did its work. He held it there for a few moments longer until he could only hear the hum of the bulb. Then he quickly switched it off. “Teach you to mess with me.” He chuckled as he hung the lamp back in place. He forced the trash bin off of his foot and placed it right in the front of the living room, satisfied it would stay in place this time.

Eliot then hopped up onto the roof and located the source of the leak, which happened to be a missing shingle. He found a piece of wood nearby and swiftly hammered it into place. Satisfied that his work was done here, he leapt off the home and headed back to the guild hall.
