Private Insidious Chains | Job | Aedre & Aegis

Post by Felicity 9th June 2015, 2:33 am

    Job Sheet:

Note that the Training Camp in this job will be slightly altered from what is asked for in the Job Sheet. Mostly because Aegis is a Guildless mage and Aedre is from Savage Skull, which is a guild least likely to organize a Training Camp for young mages to "create new bonds of friendship and trust."

    Aedre

    Death's Right Hand

The glory of the small forest was revealed in the birthstone-bright light of dawn. Almond-brown trees stood serenely, awash with a tender glow; reflecting in the single visible iris of her eye; as the other was hidden beneath a fresh, white lily. In her vision, the bark looked like riffled toast; and gems of amber clasped their crusty exterior. The first blush of the morning gave the leafy bower a green-going-to-gold complexion. Idling past suede-soft flowers, her dominant hand caressed them softly, experiencing tingles in her fingers; while a small twinge of regret washed over her thoughts, the fact that her left hand didn't experience any sensation - it was a cold, metal prosthetic, 'Oh well.'

In that same arm, she held a withering piece of parchment, some important points regarding a job inked upon it. Her vision lazed over the words again and again, hardly paying enough attention to process what she was reading. Back when Aedre had ripped it off a communal request board from Hargeon town, she'd only read a set of two paltry words - Divide Island. A place she'd never visited before, but heard a few words of praise and amusement about; that was incentive enough to accept the task. And it was only now that she chose to pay attention to the finer details, something about a small training camp for the next batch of young mages working for a filthily rich hag. The idea of teaching a set of brats made her groan internally, and she made up a resolution right there and then, 'Lesson learnt, check the depth before diving in.'

Ambling forth in the direction marked on the job sheet, her ears perked up at the metallic, tinkling sound of a stream. It flashed with a tinsel tint through the lace of leaves. When the trees parted, she could see it was sliding into an infinity-pool. The pool looked like a polished mirror of silver, with skeins of swirl-white twisting slowly on the surface. A shiny spillway led to a choppier pond. Boulders colonized the edges of the pond, buffed with pillows of moss. They caused a rocky gurgling as water met stone; a swish, a clunk, a swell and a clop. Sweet fragrances, alluvial and palliative, seemed to flit in and out of her awareness. Sight and smell vied for attention in that soul-enriching dream world, 'I'm ahead of time, anyways.' Aedre's thoughts excused, as her pre-determined path experienced a volte face and made its way to the edge of the pool.

Putting her back against a knobbly boulder, the silver woman leaned her head against the mossy pillow; utilizing the calm of the atmosphere to sustain her attention and read the rest of the job sheet. Or well, that was her rationalization for spending a good while in the midst of the beautifully dewy nature. She was pretty involved into the observation of the surroundings, not even catching a whiff of when she drifted into a very light sleep. It was the sound of muffled footsteps on the sodden ground that made the hairs on her neck stand up, and without the need to open her eyes, she could feel a shadow float above her. Discreet as it was, her hand clutched the hilt of the white blade resting in a scabbard on the right side of her body.

A firm backhand grip - ready for the moment any hasty action would be taken by her seeming assailant. In the next heartbeat, something plunged through the air and her blade swept out at break-neck speeds; successfully deflecting the path of another weapon that was most likely aimed at her chest - a perilous attack. The sound of metal clashing reverberated in the air, as Aedre opened her visible eye in a flash and sprung on her feet; her prosthetic arm flying for her opponent's neck and pinning him down to the ground due to the sudden outburst of her actions, as well as her weight. The blade in her other hand settled on his neck and her expression gave no hint of mercy - it spoke frazil clear, "Speak up, or die."

"M-money, I thought you had money." The burly man stuttered, his thick lips parting slurrily and his breath reeking of alcohol, 'No wonder it was so easy to topple him over.' Aedre mused in her head, a smirk gracing her lips, as her grip on his neck loosened slightly - giving way to a bright concentration of red energy at that spot. It went off like a soundless explosive, sending a heavy wave of Spacial energy rolling in the entire region. The woman stood up, while her blade slashed away the man's throat in a deft motion - spraying the air with droplets of blood. Her eyes swept around, taking in the ravishingly beautiful spread of nature in the area, 'At least, I gifted him an alluring deathbed.'

A breath -- a single instance of existence. A crescendo of signals, actions, thoughts; plots, plans and folly -- success. And then... exhale.
Perceive the swirl. Bend it. Be bent by it. Right fist clenched, let the wind flow through you and wash clear the pond of mind.

The azure knight's body responded adequately to his routine. Zhar, he called it: the attainment of superior awareness over the essence of what is. A meditation of sorts, though just as much a form of art.
Knees bent into a Japanese sit and a back just as straight were both native to this form. And to his form no less, though Aegis had mastered it beyond common understanding. With one fist balled and the other laxed straight, he plunged his mind deep into the void he called "me". The pitch-black darkness swirled denser behind his closed eyes. Darkness so condensed it almost stung with a bitter chill. With malice. Enmity. Hatred, fury and benevolence; all of it at once, a whirlpool, a soul. It was not the first time he saw it and, for better or worse, he knew it won't be the last, yet it somehow felt foreign. Always did.

Suddenly the knight forced his eyes open -- or did he? -- peering into the scenery. Thick mist hung at the floor, almost like smoke. It wafted in tufts, crashing like waves against the man, now barely more than a cliff in stormy seas. Blue-bleached sunlight singed his irises, then flung itself outward. It was surreal, and familiar; but it was not the real world.

Aegis' breath held. There was something different. He could see something beyond the fog, beyond the darkness.
"Ng...!" Sharp pain stung him, then again and again. It felt strange, almost like it was a seamstress' needle sewing him to madness, but he held out. He knew what he saw; there was something else besides him, watching.
"Ga-...hh...!" The reality began to falter. Oscillating curves replaced the straight emptiness and Aegis staggered as a result. His world was spinning. Stab. Another needle, this time in the leg. Each one of those felt more real than the other. Stab. He looked at his bleeding hand in disbelief. Little ruby drops stained the sea of mist climbing his feet. The tufts grew lesser in volume, in stead forming lines and strange shapes... hands? Almost like boneless hands and arms, they reached up to grab the paralysed victim. Faint whispers began to cackle in his ears, growing louder and louder until---

    "AAAAAAAHHHHH!!!"
Aegis stumbled back and fell. Where was he? He didn't know his surroundings. Midday sunlight seemed to pour down in grains, sifted through dense foliage, but there were no animals in sight. Only small, white flowers moved; the wind drawing a mournful whistle.
Blood dripped from the knight's clothes. He hadn't noticed, but the whole visible grove was covered in blood and entrails. It was too familiar a sight to make him flinch, but despite it he was still trembling. Was it fear, anger or sadness that caused it? Or maybe all three, for it happened again... Another fit of madness he had failed to control. How many lives did that single mistake harvest? How many...

He staggered out of the small coppice with a rueful look on his face. Disgust filled his chest with bile, but what he feared more was that little voice within telling him that it was fun breaking those people. It was fun mutilating them with bare hands. And he feared it more, because it spoke truths.
The azure magus climbed a small hill overlooking a river valley. Still as clueless as before, he started down one slope, but stopped with a sharp thud. His uncovered eyes snapped to two figures by the water. He knew one of them, the one doing the killing. Aedre her name, she caught the knight's attention yet again. Cold-blooded? he asked himself half-rhetorically, violet eyes looking through the woman. The distance between them was probably well over half a kilometre, so he hoped it'd suffice to conceal him from her attention. He did not like seeing living creatures before his mind grows still, lest it issues a kill-command without reason.

Cutting the wind, the sky-blue coat flickered as Aegis spun, though his feet didn't start moving until he noted the woman's prowess with a sword. "Another similarity," he remarked. For your own good, I hope that's where our crossing paths end.

    Aedre

    Death's Right Hand

There was a faint, barely perceptible movement of the water as the fresh flow from one end urged its way to the other. With little ripples that were hardly the shadows of waves, the body moved irregularly down the pool. A small gust of wind that scarcely corrugated the surface was enough to disturb its accidental course with its accidental burden. The touch of a cluster of leaves revolved it slowly, tracing, like the leg of a compass, a thin red circle in the water. The ceremony was complete, for there was no evidence of the heinous act committed just minutes ago. Except for the splotches of blood on the green blades beneath, that is, but her experience had a louder voice than her rational side - nature would be a benevolent blanket.

The woman had assumed a seat next to the water, cleaning her blade of the red liquid while letting her sight roam around; absorbing the picturesque view. Minutes ago, it would've been the most surreal thought to think of liquidation in the midst of such alluring and serene beauty - now it had approached a physical form, thrown carelessly in Aedre's past. She knew she wouldn't give this day another thought later.

Tucking back a strand of her acolyte-white hair behind her ear, the woman's vision soared up to the rapture-blue sky. It was high and bright, a continuum of delight that salved both spirit and soul, as an exodus of banished birds appeared as if out of a Celtic fairytale. She was aware of the squillions of glint-silver dewdrops which were sprinkled on the ground like stardust. The pumping heart of nature was beating, unlike her unfortunate opponent's.

Nature was akin to a defibrillator, a high voltage pacemaker that jump-starts life into the land. It throbbed and thumped to its own high octane rhythm and composed its own symphony of sound. It had a life, a fragrance and a lilting synergy unique to itself. If it were a perfume, it would be called eau-de-Glee.

As she stood up on her feet, Aedre sheathed the sword with a practised flourish, and she actually paid attention to what was out-of-nature in the surroundings; a pressing magical aura, wafting of familiarity. Her gaze shifted in its general direction, spontaneously singling out the figure clad in azure, standing lone in the midst of nature's emerald. She couldn't mistake it for anyone else, it was him. He appeared as petty much a speck, but she knew he'd seen her - for the male was glued to his spot.

A pulsating red aura wrapped the woman's lithe frame, and in the blink of an eye, it dissipated into nothingness - a second later, however, it showed up before the blindfolded male, "Its rude to come upon an acquaintance and not greet 'em, Aegis." The woman teased, her words feigning disappointment, however completely unaware of the man's actual predicament.

OOC: Say hi to a crap post. >.<"

Post by TehDMCmaniac 12th July 2015, 8:51 am

The night's hands worked long before the thought settled on action. The blade soared towards where the woman's throat had appeared barely a moment ago -- Aegis' other hand stopped the right just short of bloodletting. It must have looked strange, him holding it like so, he thought. And then winced at the casual hue of mind.

The wind galloped in tufts of vigour now, perhaps due to the altitude, or the geography. Crimson-licked leather swayed in it carelessly, occasionally giving off a drop or two of blood. Cyan hair flowed like water in the winds. Only his face remained static, rightly so, and seemed to radiate with his contemptuous glare. A stone-faced glare. A pleading one.

Several flapping sounds wavered in the distance as the time between Aegis and Aedre stretched. Kraaa, kraaa it crowed, the black shape circling from overhead before perching on the bared steel -- the knight's hand still didn't waver, though his look seemed to take in the gallous bird with confusion. He brought the blade closer to his face; the crow stared at him back. It did not move. Before Aegis could de-construct his weapon, however, the invader flopped away with another disgruntling pair of kraa.

"Nature seems to hold you in favour." Aegis had followed the creature with his look, but he was half-facing the magus again. Eyeing her did not help his mood. The subtle whispers rang in his head, made him dizzy, and pained. Bleak purple eyes looked at Aedre and saw meat and bone, and blood. But it was a person he was looking for; the disgruntling thought split his head like an axe and the stone face winced. He still did not know what had gone wrong. What was it that I found in there...
The azure knight finally crushed his weapon back into theory and issued a soft warning, like a cushioned snarl. "Do not pry where you might die" -- though he somehow felt that the words held little value to his interlocutor. A distant thought told him he was even surprised he could speak like that to such a woman, but he buried it immediately.

"Your company was pleasant, but I do not want to encounter you ever again!"
Run, you fool! I've killed enough already.

Above, the sky rolled lazily, not seeming to care about what happens beneath it. Is that how it is meant to be? The blue expanse eyed him down haughtily to remind him he's staring. I think I'm going crazy. Certainly, no single thought in his mind seemed to be coherent with the one before or after. Chaos, he decided, must be his natural state, if peeling away the composure left only that. But a chaotic mind did have its benefits; had he been sane as he slaughtered those people earlier, he may have tried killing himself, too. And those attempts never did go well enough.

The strange knight started walking away from Aedre, blood trickling down his thigh from a wound he did not know he had. It healed, of course; his body was used to handling anything, and did so with magic. And what of an ailing mind, then? Can I heal that too?
He had already forgotten the woman, although fate seemed to have something else in store for the pair.
