The sea was firmly under the control of fierce storm winds, frothing waves rising and falling with every resounding strike of thunder that arced through the darkened skies. The small boat rocked violently, thrown back and forth, nothing more than the plaything of the unforgiving tempests and raging tides, but a single figure, shrouded in darkness by the twilight, could be seen on the deck, keeping strict, unerring control of the rudder. The brief flashes of bright light would occasionally give form to this shape, revealing the glint of steel as it was reflected by metal armor, the figure clad from head to toe. Undeterred, the figure seemed to ignore the torrential rains, the waves, and the roaring winds around him, maneuvering the vessel steady with a grip of iron on its course towards its destination: Shadow Island.

The figure on the boat was no ordinary man, or even man at all. Cassius, the name the thing in that armor had given himself, was something entirely different, of course, something unholy, corrupted. Something that should not exist in this world, and yet, he existed, and was driven ever-forward by a single-minded purpose. He was on his way to Shadow Island precisely for this reason. His time in the Guild of Assassins he had belonged to had taught him more than a few tricks he would have never thought of when he was still working solo, and he felt a certain sense of appreciation for that man to this day, but Hidden Blades was no more. It had vanished for reasons that escaped Cassius, but the fact remained that he was still there, and his motivation to fulfill his desires had only gotten stronger alongside him. To this end, he had used his peculiar abilities to look for new avenues to do what he had always done, hearing rumors of a young organization that had taken root on Shadow Island, a group that seemed to align with his goals. Perhaps they could enter a pact that would aid both sides, much like the one he had made with that Chairman before. They would be of use to him, and he would be of use to them. A mutually beneficial contract, of sorts.

It was this idea that had driven Cassius to sea, the armored revenant leaving Fiore in Hargeon Town with an admittedly shabby vessel he had "acquired" when he had realized that walking to Shadow Island, while possible for him, would be a major detriment to his equipment. Seawater was corrosive, and he wouldn't accept damage to his precious collection. This shabby boat, however, driven forward by a simple sail and rudder, enough for the being who had no need for supplies or rest, had found its way into the confines of this raging storm, something that spoke volumes to Cassius' talent as a navigator and sailor. The creature in that armor was a being of many talents, but they were decidedly not of the nautical kind, the wraith, even now, silently dreading what would happen to his precious armor if this vessel would capsize and sink. He'd have to thoroughly clean his gear once he'd gotten through this mess.

The winds wailed as the howl of the storm perpetuated in the sky. The unnaturally black clouds blotted out the sun only illuminating the sea with it's bolts of crimson lightning. Waves churned like the boiling of a sea devils cauldron. In the depths of the sea was just as chaotic as the underwater currents raged like the arms of countless drowned souls ready to drag any poor soul into an underwater grave. In the midst of this chaos, a single ship cut through the storm undeterred by the relentless onslaught of the supernatural hurricane.  In the well lit captains cabin of the ship, Captain Avantika watched the storm with a glass of crimson red wine in her hand. She took a sip from her cup as she turned her attention to a map that laid sprawled upon her organized desk. She walked over to it and traced the parchment with her gloved finger. the map had various annotations and marks indicating points of interest and potential conquest. Her eyes lifted from the detailed map, her gaze then fell towards a small pile of gold and treasure sitting in the corner of her room. The artifacts and riches sat there like a bunch of discarded and unwanted toys, the value of the small mound of treasures was enough to guarantee one multiple lifetimes of living in lavish comfort. However to the captain of the ship the treasures were mere pocket change, their value as much as coins lost in the cushions of a couch.

Avantika could feel the rocking of the ship due to the waves beating on her hull. While most experienced sailors would have felt a sense of unease, Avantika regarded the storm as part of her crews normal routine. After all, her crew was made up the best and only the best. A loud knock emanated from the door, Avantika took her time and took another sip from her wine before answering.

"Enter." She spoke with a cadence of authority. The door opened revealing one of Avantika's crewmembers.

"Captain... there seems to be a small ship on the way to shadow island... they're not too far from us..." The pirate reported to his captain. Avantika lifted one of her eyebrows with a slight expression of curiosity. Whoever was sailing in this weather without the blessing of the Andromeda must have been really stupid or incredibly ballsy.

"Bring the ship around... I'd like to see the crew who's mad enough to sail into the Andromeda's storm." Avantika chuckled as she walked past her subordinate.

"Yes captain." The pirate nodded as he walked behind his captain. Avantika walked to the deck of her ship. Her subordinate barked out orders and in a matter of seconds the ship shifted its trajectory towards the small ship. The winds almost as if heeding the instructions of the captain pushed against the sails and propelled Avantika's ship towards the smaller sea faring vessel.

Avantika's ship was galleon, a warship powered by the wind and machine. An absolute behemoth of the sea. The ship was armed with three rows of magical and non-magical artillery. Anti-air guns were mounted on the top of the deck. However the ship was nothing compared the Andromeda, the flagship of the Abyssal Fleet.

Each pirate aboard Avantika's ship wore their uniforms that were akin to their captains fashion. Each crew member were armed to the teeth, ready to attack at their captains command. Avantika's ship cast a shadow over the small ship. The captain gazed down to surprised to see one man on the small ship.

The wind blew her long braided white hair slightly, as her long black coat fluttered. The feather of her hat swayed as she took off her tricorne hat and bowed slightly to the stranger.

"Ahoy there... Are you in need of assistance?" Avantika inquired, as she spoke the winds seemed to silence as if making way for the captain. She smiled as she raised her cup of wine as if greeting an old friend.

Cassius' thoughts were centered still around the properties of briny saltwater when his senses picked something up, though the armor, naturally, had not made a move to do so. Cassius' way to process to discern and process information was entirely different when compared to that of humans, and so, without even as much as a glance, his entire being focussed on the ship that had appeared on the horizon. Its sails, illustrating just how laughable Cassius' own vessel was, loomed menacingly in the distance and approached swiftly, getting closer with every passing second. There was no mistake that Cassius and his sorry excuse for a boat were their targets. Why this was, of course, eluded the Wraith entirely. He had no valuables stored on this vessel, and indeed, even supplies were absent based on the revenant's lack of need for such. The only thing that here was himself and this armor he possessed, really, and if it was the armor they wanted ... well, he wasn't about to surrender a piece of his collection to them. It was an ordinary armor, indeed, one of such a kind that it would be found on every street corner in the workshops of Stella, perhaps, but it had been the wraith's possession for years and years now. It was his ...

... so if they really tried to take it from him, he would slaughter them all without a second thought.

As alert as a ghost in armor could be, Cassius did not stop or falter, however, not in the least intimidated by this approaching behemoth, only giving visible signs of his attention when the ship had practically sailed within grasping distance of his own vessel. Why would he be especially bothered, after all? Cassius ultimately had nothing in this world to fear. If anything, it would have to be the other way around.

The head of the armor turned, a single point of bright red light dancing around within as it seemed to peer upward at the other ship's railing, spotting an unfamiliar figure standing there. A woman? Cassius tilted his head slightly. What business did she have with him? There was little time to ponder, for as the thought had begun to drift through his mind, the storm would suddenly find itself silenced in its entirety, as if on a single, eerie command, which was the moment she would choose to greet him, not hesitating more than a breath before directing a question at the revenant.

Cassius tilted his head to the other side, at first offering no response as the red light danced from side to side within the empty headgear of the possessed armor, as if in thought, then finally, after a few moments, settling once more, its glow intensifying.

Cassius' intended for his answer to convey nothing more and nothing less than necessary, a raspy, distinct voice, like the scraping of metal upon rusted metal, echoing forth from the hollow space within the armor.

    "... No"

He felt that he had made himself sufficiently clear before lowering his head again, this exchange once more demonstrating that the intricacies of interpersonal exchanges were entirely lost on the Wraith, primarily based on the fact that he, more often than not, was far less of a person than the other party he tried to communicate with. Thinking back, there had been one man who had seemed to understand him perfectly, even without the use of the spoken word humans were so fond of.

Now that he thought about it, it occurred to him that these people, as strange as they were, and as relieved as the Wraith was that they did not seem interested in his armor, as much relieved as a ghost possibly could be, that was, probably knew the area if they were sailing around with a ship of those proportions. Cassius thought for a few more moments before his head would turn back to the woman at the railing, his ghastly voice ringing out clearly against the crashing of waves once more, the breathless intervals between his broken speech making him seem all the more strange.

"... Cassius ... is seeking ... Shadow Island ... do you ... know it?"

Avantika gazed down at the armored individual, the crimson glow dancing in the helmet of the iron clad warrior. Plate armor in the middle of the sea was something quite unconventional when traversing the oceans of earthland. Avantika was well aware of the benefits of full plate armor brought to battle, however the danger of being dragged down into the depths due to the weight of the armor was something that deterred sailors and pirates from donning such armor.

Avantika respectfully heeded the raspy unnatural voice that resonated from the armored fellow. Once more an ominous red glow emitted from the helmet of the armor platted warrior. The armored man declined Avantika’s offer of assistance with a metallic cadence to his voice.

“An individual of little words… I can respect that” Avantika chuckled before she finished the wine from her golden cup. She let out a sigh of satisfaction gazing down at the empty cup in her hand. One of her crew member’s walked to her side and took the empty cup from their captain. Avantika was about to command her crew to depart and leave the mysterious armored individual alone to the storm. Just when she was about to leave the armored man’s tiny ship sink to the relentless maw of the storm, the iron clad figure spoke once more.

“Aye… I know of it… My ship is headed there right now…” Avantika spoke her words in a nonchalant manner, as if sailing to the jagged coasts of a storm ridden island cloaked in a veil of shadows was a normal occurrence to her.

“Cassius, a pleasure to meet you… I understand you need not of our assistance… but as I am experienced in these ‘ere waters… I highly suggest you rethink your decision…savvy?” Avantika said ominously. She took out a beautifully decorated telescope from her coat pocket and tossed it at Cassius. The telescope was elegant, although it was adorned in gold and jewels it was simple and elegant.

“Avast my armored friend, if you look yonder… if you approach the island this way, it’ll lead you hidden currents which will drag your ship to the rocks… the island has numerous tides and currents that can easily drag a fleet to the watery graves bellow…” Avantika explained eloquently as she pointed towards the island. Should one gaze through a telescope, one would see the corpses of wrecked ships decorating the jagged stones jettisoning from the briny sea.

“Aside from that… you have the storm to worry about… I mean no disrespect good sir… but your ship won’t survive… and that would not be ideal… so, may I once again present a suggestion?…” Avantika mused as she nodded to one of her underlings. A durable and well made rope ladder was cast down from the side unto Cassius’ ship.

“If you wish to make port at the shadow islands, you can climb aboard my ship and we can assure your safe arrival to the island… but it is entirely your decision. I simply don’t want sail around another ship wreck…” Avantika explained as she awaited the response of Cassius.

The speech that the woman used was entirely too flowery, too difficult to interpret, the Wraith thought. Without ever having been acquainted with the dialect and vocabulary that sailors often held as dear as the sea, Cassius had no concept for the mannerisms of someone such as her. Still, he could gather that she did indeed know of Shadow Island, that much seemed clear, but her connection to the group he was looking for was, indeed, decidedly unclear to the very direct ethereal being inhabiting this accursed suit of armor. The Wraith tilted his head, the glowing orb of crimson within swirling in a gesture of confusion, though Cassius pieced together the essence of what this human was saying from the context of her words and their situation, a skill that Cassius had learned during his time with his previous employer. Without such a skill, after all, he would have quickly been lost in the intricacies of human society, thus being unable to do his job... and that simply wouldn't do.

Cassius casually stretched out a hand, catching the telescope falling to his position from the higher railing, the orb inside the armor changing course and dancing within its metallic containment, shifting its attention to the thing the wraith now held firmly within his clutches. Indeed, a fine piece of craftsmanship this was, partially made of gold without a doubt, the weight would convey as much. The brilliant gems inlaid upon the material would shine, even in this truly dimmest of nights, reflecting the little light the moon managed to send to the surface of the waves. It was enough to prompt Cassius to "add it" to his collection right then and there, but when he thought about it for just a little longer, he discarded the idea entirely. It was valuable, there was no misunderstanding that fact, but things that held value and no purpose were idiotic. Why would one craft a utilitarian implement like this, a telescope, designed to aid the sensory functions of mortal beings, with such obvious attention to value and detail? All that value was wasted if, say, one would lose or damage such a thing in a combat situation, something that happened more often than not. Wear and tear were unavoidable, and things that one wouldn't, and indeed, couldn't use in such scenarios based on their value, well, they simply held no value at all, in the end. Cassius simply looked at it for a few more passing moments before throwing the telescope back.

The Wraith, of course, did not need tools like this one to aid him in spotting the danger before him. It wasn't like he hadn't known about this danger, either. He simply didn't care. If it got him closer to Shadow Island, he had been prepared to walk the seafloor and emerge once reaching his destination, an utterly pragmatic solution, but such was the nature of this being possessing an armor. He had also known that his ship, well, boat, really, was likely to be taken by the waves at some point or other, but again, the Wraith had little care for this fact. The Wraith shook his head, an easy gesture to convey objection. "Cassius ... knows". Of course he knew all of this. He didn't need it spelled out, but there was little alternative. Well, that was, of course, until she suggested an alternative, an offer that Cassius did not need to consider for long.

Without much thought, the Wraith abandoned his own vessel and left it for the sea to claim, scaling the ladder with swift, precise, and practiced movements. And indeed, the way the Wraith moved would convey a kind of certainty and confidence that his appearance and his words never could, positively affirming to every onlooker that the being preferred direct action over words any day of the week. With a final pull and a quick leap over the ship's railing, Cassius found himself on deck, the red orb within the visor swirling around before finally settling, appearing as if it peered in the woman's direction expectingly.

Avantika half expected the stranger to use the telescope or perhaps even keep it for himself. The armored individual did no such thing and tossed the telescope back to Avantika. She caught it with ease and mild amusement at the reaction of the knight at sea. With little effort the armored fellow hoisted himself up on to the deck of her ship with ease. Her crimson eyes narrowed as she watched the red glow shine from the dark shadows of his helmet. Avantika smiled and welcomed Cassius aboard. "Welcome aboard Cassius, a pleasure to meet you... Come, the wind and brine isn't good for your armor." The captain would turn her back on the stranger and headed back into the captains quarters. As she made her way back into her ship, the storm suddenly grew in ferocity. in a matter of seconds the waves and winds of the sea devoured the ship Cassius had just abandoned.

It didn't take long for Avantika to lead Cassius to her office, the room was dry and sheltered from the storm that churned outside. She made her way to her desk and pulled out a two large vials of oil and placed on the desk top. "I can tell you take good care of your armor... here take this...." Avantika said as she tossed Cassius a vial. "It's a special oil, with minor enchantments... you can use it to prevent rust and other wear and tear... the ocean does not take too kindly to iron and steel." Avantika mused as she drew her own two sabers. Despite the lavish decor of her quarters, Avantika's weapons were simple yet elegant. The blades were not adorned in jewels, the weapons were simply made for one purpose in mind, and that was battle. She took a clean cloth and added oil onto it as she began to polish and clean her blades. "So Cassius... we have sometime till we reach the island, would you like some wine, perhaps some food?" Avantika inquired curious to see the individual finding underneath the helmet.

"I am Captain Avantika Nightlocke a pleasure to meet your acquaintance...." Avantika gave a respectful nod to her guest before continuing to speak "I can tell you are an individual of few words.... but if you may indulge my curiosity... why the blood hell of all places, Shadow Island? What is your purpose?" Avantika inquired curiously as he took off her tricorne hat and set it on the table. Gold coins, jewels and all sorts of other oddities lay scattered and strewn across her large desk. A large map of earthland lay in the center, markings scribbled all over. Avantika looked out the window of her cabin, she watched the storm and sea. Should the armored warrior answer her questions mattered not to her, although she was curious she wasn't the type to force answers out from her guest. She simply wanted tone a good host and pass the time until they reached their destination. If Cassius decided to speak she would listen and answer any questions he had.

Time passed about a half hour or so, the conversation was interrupted by canon fire. A knock on the captains door echoed in the room. Avantika not seeming the mildest bit of worry called out "Enter" one of her crew mates entered the cabin and reported promptly. "Captain... we've been followed..." Avantika raised her eyebrows in amusement.

"I'm assuming it's the poor lads who's goods we've recently commandeered?" Avantika chuckled as she got up from her seat and sheathed her blades.

"Aye captain... it be the crew of Golden-tooth Jones, he Brought two ships along with him..." the pirate reported to his captain. Avantika took her hat and placed it on her head. Before addressing her armored guest.

"Feel free to stay.... or if you would like... you are also free to join the party.... your destiny is yours." Avantika smiled before excusing herself to get her men ready for battle.

"Turn the ship around lads, it seems we need to remind these boys who owns the seas." Avantika yelled, as walked out the captains cabin. Her crew yelled in unison in acknowledgement to their captains orders. The ship lurched and began to turn around in order to face the approaching enemies.
