Oh Souls of Misfortune [Kaori/Private] Empty Oh Souls of Misfortune [Kaori/Private]

Post by Dmitry 3rd November 2017, 3:18 pm

    Job Description:

    These are the Cursed Lands.

A stretch of wretched earth, ravaged by darkness and nightmares. Those who risk coming to this place risk madness, pestilence, and death. Indeed, some would consider anyone who would find there way to this place mad already or, at the very least, incredibly unlucky. Yet there was at least one who has come to this place of his own free will several times, albeit to his own displeasure. A certain grey haired wizard now found himself staring into the abyss of the cursed lands from behind what essentially served as a border, something he could sense himself.

Dmitry Kazakov was in a foul mood, just by standing where he was. He had known of the place for most of his life, avoiding it more often than not. In the past, he had ventured in to the hellish place with a former companion of his. This time he was here for a far more vague reason than before.

Something was stirring in this place. It was obscure, but still concerning none the less. Not that it was concern that brought the medium to his least favorite place, a trip he always dreaded. In truth, an anomaly such as this had a subconscious pull to him. He couldn't help answering the call of a spiritual disturbance; it was in his nature.

'I'm beginning to wonder if you're some form of masochist, boy.' Said the voice of Hati, his spiritual mentor.

For once, Dmitry had no come back, simply staring into the lands he hated so much.

A knocking sound on Kaori's door had stopped her from going over documents surrounding the progress of the new guild branch's construction. More specifically, the arrangement of materials to be shipped to the site where it'll be built once she and a few of Gisen's clansmen clear things out. She let out a sigh and got up from her seat to answer the door. It seemed that people were hellbent on interrupting her from her preparations since in the past three days, she only got through five stacks of paper work. At the door was her friend and servant, Ikuchi, who looked just as unimpressed as she would be at the reason for the interruption... "Your presence is being requested at Lamia Scale." he said and turned to walk down the hall of the orbital ship, Ark of Destiny. Kaori had let out another sigh since his reaction could only mean this was gonna be a really stupid request. "Snoop Genie..." Kaori said and the black man with dreads appeared with a bottle of Mountain Dew in one hand, a bag of Cool Ranch Doritos in the other. "What it do?" he asked, to which Kaori replied "Mind getting me to the castle? Thanks." The genie made the chips vanish before snapping his fingers and Kaori was in the middle of the main entrance for Lamia Scale. "There she is!" a voice called from across the room and the man, with some chick began approaching Kaori. He paused halfway across the room when he felt something stabbing him in the heart- not a blade, but the look in Kaori's ruby red eyes.

The man saw Kaori walking towards him and, remembering the last time they met how she bashed his skull with a college text book, prepared for the worst... She stopped in front him and then looked at the young woman next to him, and then back at him. She crossed her arms under her chest "Well...? What the hell did you want this time?" she asked in a fairly annoyed tone. Ikuchi's reaction from before let her know it was another shit assignment that would result in him getting hit, but just how trivial it was would determine just how hard he got it. "Th-this person needs to be esco-" he was cut off by the fact that he was choking on air with a knee firmly rammed in his testicles, possibly sending them to places that they naturally should not be. He hit the floor in the fetal position and Kaori looked at the woman who had a terrified look on her face. "You can give me the details on the way." she said in a friendly tone. She then looked at the guy on the ground and with a harsh, annoyed tone said "Next time someone gives you an escort mission, push it on someone who isn't busy." before walking off with the client. From what Kaori was told, a friend of her's was in the Cursed Lands dying in some shack and she wanted to go save him. "Here's the deal... you stay behind me, if something comes after you- don't move." The client had agreed to it, and they began their walk to the Cursed Lands; evidently she was terrified of transportation of all types...

    Much... Walking... Later...

Up ahead in the distance, Kaori could see the outline of someone wearing a trench coat; or, something of similar length. However, Kaori had also seen a set of hands rising around him from the ground and her ruby eyes narrowed as four massive, zombified gorillas emerged from the ground. The ground split into two walls of earth as Kaori instantly broke the sound barrier and cleared the distance in a fraction of a second, slashing the first of the gorillas head clean off. The second one tried delivering a punch to Kaori, but the large fist was blocked by the side of her katana. The blade turned to be pressed against the fist and Kaori spun, slashing the hand open before she moved toward the slow moving beast, ramming it in the heart and then cutting upwards to split its head in half. She stepped to the side and let the animal hit the floor, flicking her sword and looking to the other two. If Dmitry hadn't already killed them, Kaori would vanish and reappear beheading them. If Dmitry had already killed them, as he was a capable mage with experience in dealing with zombies, Kaori wouldn't need to kill them herself. Once they were all dealt with, Kaori looked at Dmitry with an inquisitive look and blinked a couple times. The last time he saw her, she was an inch shorter, had a very different body shape, a cat mask, and more weapons. Now, Kaori had no scent at all, her magic was undetectable, she had no weapons visible, and her clothes were one hundred percent different... None of the spells displayed were the same as back then either, but he did have one thing to guess who she was... A bright smile came across Kaori's face and she shouted "MITSY!!" before shooting forward at a speed that no human could react to, hugging Dmitry while tackling him to the ground. While it was possible to dodge something moving that fast, it wasn't from a couple meters away since that object would hit them in under 0.036 seconds- and hit hard. From there, she'd sit up while using him as a cushion and ask "How've you been!?" with a pearly grin. It would be a good ten or so minutes before Kaori's client had caught up with them.

Oh Souls of Misfortune [Kaori/Private] Empty Re: Oh Souls of Misfortune [Kaori/Private]

As Dmitry stared out, ignoring his teacher for once in his life, an unfortunately familiar presence made itself known to him. While Hati's prattle was currently in capable of getting his attention, the feeling of the undead approaching him was far too distinct for him to miss. However, they were slow and clumsy, making things easier for a brawler like Dmitry. As the first of the rotting ape corpses threw a punch at the spirit mage, he side stepped out of the way of the massive fist. Before the hulking beast could direct another at him, he grab its arm and used the momentum from the earlier swing to throw it over his should, its weight making the impact all the greater. Before the monster could get to its feet, its 'ally' barreled over top of it in pursuit of their shared quarry, crushing it's skull underfoot. Taking a wide swipe at the intruder, the gorilla left itself exposed as Dmitry leaped over the attack, using the arm as a stepping stone thereafter. He then grabbed the creatures head and swung around its shoulder using his own momentum, snapping his adversary's neck in the process.

Upon landing, Dmitry had expected to fight at least two more of the beasts, the two he dealt with only accounting for half presence. Yet, for some reason, he felt the beasts no more. Turning to address the strange turn of events, he was greeted with a rather young looking woman, wearing a face he didn't recognize. She wasn't a demon or the like, he could tell that much. It wasn't until she opened her mouth and tackled him to the ground that he remembered, feeling a bit queasy as a result.

"Oh joy..." He said, sarcasm dripping from his voice before he reached for her ankles in an attempt to up-end her so that he could stand. "So what brings you out this way?" He asked shortly before looking back into the dead lands. "If you're going into that hell-hole, you should know: there's something stirring out that way." His voice was far more grim than usual, hinting at the pressure he felt from this place. "Not the usual mess lurking around there. No, its something more...deliberate." As Kaori's tag along arrived, Dmitry looked her up and down. "Who's this?" He asked bluntly, as usual.

Kaori had noticed the hand slinking down her sides towards her legs, though, she didn't think he was aiming for her ankles; she thought he was going for a much... higher up location... A quick smack across the face and her vanishing to appear standing up with her arms on her hips and an unhappy expression on her face while saying "Oi! Hands above the shoulders sailor!" A few moments had passed before Dmitry had told Kaori to be cautious if she'd going into the Cursed Lands, stating that something's out there. "I'm the head of the largest war clan in Midi, I think I can handle whatever's out there." Kaori said in a calm tone. What she didn't mention was her status as the strongest lower-tier Wizard Saint, as well as the fact that she was the strongest member of Gisen's magic user clan, Lamia Scale. The former would be bragging, which wasn't part of Kaori's style and she didn't exactly care for the position much. The latter would require he acknowledging that she was a member of Lamia Scale, and not just an ally to the guild. As far as she was concerned, she was only an ally that protected them and assisted them when needed- nothing more, anything less.

Upon the arrival of Kaori's contracted companion, Dmitry had asked who she was, to which Kaori let out a sigh. "Mitsy, this is... who the hell are you again?" The entire time they were walking, Kaori had failed to get her name since it wasn't exactly a priority for her. The girl put on an awkward smile and rubbed the back of her head, not particularly liking the way Kaori phrased that one, but also not having the guts to stand up to someone who could accelerate as fast as she did. "E-Elizabeth..." she said hesitantly. "Right. Mitsy, this is Elizabeth. Ellie, this is Mitsy. Ellie's someone who got a letter from an old friend who's dying in there, and she wanted an escort- so I got stuck with the job." Kaori turned to Elizabeth, now known as Ellie, and gestured to Dmitry "And this relic of a pervert is Mitsy, an ally of mine that's neglected to keep in touch for quite some time..." to which Ellie replied nervously "Pleasure to meet you... I... think I'll just stay near miss Kaori..." she said, not wanting to touch the pervert's hand if he gestured for a hand shake. While shaking hands was likely out of Dmitry's mental grasp, Ellie was more... cultured and was expecting one. Kaori then turned around and began walking off into the Cursed Lands, not caring for whatever monstrosity, force, or necrophile was rummaging around in the place and Ellie wasn't far behind her.

"Wait, what?!" Dmitry asked in surprise, already baffled by his old compatriot despite the brief amount of time in which they had been reunited. "How the hell am I the pervert here? You're the one who tackled me, remember?" Naturally, he could hear his mentor laughing within backdrop of his psyche, something that irritated him all the more.

'I don't know, boy...' The voiced cackled, taking delight in Dmitry's misfortune as always. 'I think the life of a pervert may just suit you after all.' Dmitry rolled his eyes. 'I don't need to hear that from you, ya old fart!' With that, the newly dubbed "pervert" took address of the woman just introduced, now eyeing him fearfully. "I'm not gonna grope you if that's what you're thinking." He said, before trudging after Kaori, knowing full well what kind of trouble she was likely to get into in this kind of place. "I guess I might as well get in there and check this mess out for myself. Otherwise I'll just be sitting out here waiting for it to go away."

Another chuckle came from the wolf spirit. 'Oh yes, I'm sure that's why...'

Dmitry's expression twisted again. 'Piss off, old man.'
