Monster Hunting for the Council (Monster Containment Event)

Post by Chili Thompson on 17th August 2017, 12:19 am

Chili stretched his arms a bit as he walked. This was not where he had expected to end up at the start of the week. He had been on his way to a destination of choice when he had caught wind of a call from the council asking for assistance in controlling the recent monster disturbances. Leaving his venture for later Chili had decided to change course and headed for the Cursed Lands. Unaware of who exactly would be there Chili had no idea whom he may run into while taking this call from the council. That hadn't stopped him though as he had made it to the Cursed Lands yesterday and more specifically he had just made it to Fat Monster Land a few hours ago after a short nap. Not sure what to do from here though Chili paused for a second after stretching his arms and glanced at the sky. It was still a little early in the morning, eight a.m. at best. Feeling his stomach grumble Chili decided that now would be a good time to have breakfast. Luckily he was prepared for traveling since he had been planning on doing so for a few more days than it took him to get here. Opening his pack Chili sat down on a rock underneath a tree and took out a small twenty-two by fifteen by twelve cubic centimeter tin container with tin foil on top. Then taking out a metal spoon, Chili set it down on the ground on top of the tin container that was next to his pack for a second Chili did the required hand signs to enter Hellfire mode.

His hands igniting on fire with the activation of the mode, Chili controlled the temperature of the fire as he picked up the tin rectangular box. Putting one flaming hand on the bottom and one on the top Chili waited for ten minutes keeping his hands at a temperature of two-hundred and sixty degrees celsius till his food was ready. Cooling the flames as to not melt the spoon as he picked it up, Chili removed the tin foil top to reveal an already made dish of pasta, tomato sauce, and grill cooked meat balls. Having made a huge batch and put a serving in each tin container gave Chili multiple meals to carry with him at a time. Yeah, they were all mostly oat meal, rice mixed with soy sauce, peas, and carrots, spaghetti. He could chill them with his ice mode and reheat them with his hellfire it seemed like the thing to do.
Starting to eat, slowly chewing each bite, Chili let his mind wander. "So the place is called Fat Monster Land, huh sounds like that level out of that 2-D scrolling game where you go to the place where all the monsters are giant. Though her I could be eaten rather than lose a life to a giant turtle shell here. Hmm, I wonder if I will have to fight a giant turtle that could be a "shell" of a time, hehe. Although if it was clean meat I could maybe make myself some turtle soup for later."

Coming out of his thoughts when he heard a branch break to his left Chili turned his gaze in the direction of the noise. In an instant, a raccoon with glider like wings its arms came figurtivley flying out of a bush and snatched what was remaining of Chili's food, which was about half way gone now. In one swift fluid motion, Chili had zipped his pack, lifted it up over his shoulder, stood up, and was now chasing off the raccoon. Who was now running on two legs, holding Chili's food above it'ss head like some kind of trophy as it went.
"Why out of everything to happen in the place named after fat monsters does a funny looking raccoon creature gotta steal my meal!" Chili both annoyingly and humorously thought as he charged behind the creature. The little thing hopped over a rock as it ran, Chili simply stepped over it as he continued after it now only a meter behind it. The raccoon tried losing him by zig zagging in between a few trees but CHili was not even fazed by the maneuver and was closing the small gap. Chili let his flames go full heat as he finaly was a foot behind the thing and dove for it. Breaking out of the tree line as he dove Chili didn't have time to take in his surroundings as he grabbed its tail Chili heard a loud pained squeak as the smell of burnt fur touched his nostrils. The thing dropped his food, once it did Chili let it go as he picked up his tin and watched the little thing run off. Its tail was now missing all the fur at the center of its tail leaving a furry end and base. It stopped at the edge of the woods and Chili thought that the thing stuck its tongue out at him before dashing back into the treed area.

Having chased the thing out of the small woods like area he was now out in a rolling land of fields all which were mostly weeds. Though the ground was a grayish color. Chili didn't put much thought into it as he saw that the spoon was still sitting in the container even after all that running. Quickly looking around the field Chili made sure there was nothing stalking him, beofre starting to eat again where he stood. Deciding to eat a little faster just in case worse complaining than a little raccoon showed up, considering the job he was on, Chili finished his food in about five minutes. Putting the spoon in the container Chili put the tin foil that was in a side pouch of his pack and put it back over its container. Unzipping his pack, Chili placed the container in it and rezipped it. Now he just needed to keep wandering until he came across some monsters and hopefully whatever was convincing them to be more daring in their ventures across Fat Monster Land's borders.
"Hopefully I'll also come across some fellow mages....well not dark guild ones at least but ones that will actually help instead of try and kill me." Chili thought as he started off into the fields.

It had only been a short time since the youth had joined the guild known as Black Sails due to the contract his summons had made with the guild master Cirven on his behalf, they seemed concerned about him being on his own even with them there. They understood their young summoner had been through a lot in his short life but there was only so much they could do to help him given that they had never been through it themselves, so seeing another that had decided it was a good idea to at least try have him bond with them in the hopes he would get stronger but they didn't know if this would ever be the case. Ruvel was still upset that the contract had been made on his behalf as he was bound to any contract made and if all of his summons agreed on a contract it was as good as he himself making it so the same stipulations came into play; this was only solidified when Barthenz had reminded him that to break the contract they had made would end their contracts and even if they decided to remain they would have no reason to honour the contracts they had with him so he was backed into a corner for that one but he was use to such things given where he called home.

He was still sick shown by the pale glow in his eyes but he couldn't put his life on hold because of it, he was no where near home and was still being effected by it, it was just his luck. Even though the guild had provided him a room he still more often than not slept outside not liking confinements of the room making him wake two or three times a night in a panic if Laurea didn't sing to him, not that it was any better outside but least he didn't feel like he was trapped. He had went into the guildhall and to the job board he had been told all guilds had deciding perhaps he should go on one 'You're still sick kid' he heard from Barthenz 'You should be resting' he continued to lectured 'I can't have my life on hold because of not having the right medicine Barthenz' he send back wishing they would stop worrying at least for now. He blinked at the many flyers before mumbling something to himself his eyes looking over his shoulder to make no one else was close enough to hear.

In truth he had no idea what any of them said, he hadn't been taught to read or write so was reliant on his summons to help him with that 'You should ask for help dear one' Edaenz said with a warmed tone 'I look like I'm in my late teens, I'm pretty sure that by then someone would know how to read and write' he said back 'You need to remember that you're only ten and didn't have a normal upbringing' he was sent back by Aelona 'There is no shame our in this our summoner' Shindara added 'I can't' he sent back he was ashamed of it though anyone around him wouldn't think the was struggling due to the stoic look 'There's a request from the magic council kid, apparently strong monsters are starting to go inland I am calling on our contract' Barthenz said showing him which flyer it was allowing Ruvel to take it and walk off towards the destination.

"I ssannnnhan thi nnh tshh gairrtiin flinness shaf rredirrtsh" he called looking to the sky smiling a little as he heard the screech and sonic boom, withing a few minutes a large phoenix standing 16 feet tall with a wingspan of 23 feet and seemingly with golden feathers landed beside him. Moving forwards Ruvel stroked Bennu's head gently "Hello Bennu, I need a bit of help getting to a place called Fat Monster Island, think you can help?" he asked hearing a happy chirp he chuckled he was hesitating going on the phoenix's back only to be picked up by the back of his clothing and plopped on his back before the Bennu set off so he couldn't get away. He knew Bennu wouldn't allow anything bad to happen to him but still he was panicking due to the limited freedom he had, it was always an issue since he found there was more than what 'home' allowed the unwilling residents.

It wasn't to long before the island was reached and even from the skies he seen something strange, and that was a boy chasing after a raccoon, as he was so high he couldn't see who exactly it was "Down we go Bennu, don't land in the forest, your feathers would burn it" he said stroking the large birds neck lovingly, holding on as the giant fire bird dove towards the ground but landed gently "I guess this would be easier I get a team, I can perhaps ask the person chasing the raccoon" he said scratching the side of his head it wasn't as if he had much of a choice given he hadn't seen anyone else 'What if they are a dark mage?' Neru asked with a concerned tone 'The guild is neither good nor evil so it has no impact on me...' he replied to the question 'They're dark for a reason' Neru continued 'Not everything under the term 'dark' is that way Neru, bare that mind.' Amuul reminded the water elf in a neutral tone, it was times like this he wished he didn't have a link to his summons since he felt somewhat schizophrenic hearing them all in his head.

Giving Bennu one last caress he looked to the sky "Please return home Bennu, I'm sure you're mother misses you" he said warmly chuckling as the giant phoenix screeched before chomping at his hair for  a moment before flying off making Ruvel fly back a little, he was use to it and knew it was a by product of Bennu being so big. Getting up he dusted himself off before heading towards where he seen the other going. Entering the forest he blinked getting closer shaking his head a little seeing a familiar face "Why am I not surprised it was you who lost your lunch to a rodent" he said walking towards Chili, they had taken part within the road fighter tournament and been teamed together and though they fought differently they somehow complimented the others fighting styles; after the tournament they decided that they would remain a team but split up to follow up on leads to their own issues. "It's been a while, anything interesting happen?" he asked moving to stand next to the other.

Gangting looked around him in the tavern. He was rather early in the evening and the common room wasn’t filled as heavy as it would be in a few hours. There were a handful people spread around at tables eating dinner and one person at the bar, talking with the bartender. Gangting walked to the bar and took a seat next to the man. ‘…council give’s rewards to mages that fight the monsters,’ said man. Gangting studied his face. His cheeks were covered in a black substance and he seemed to have a slightly curved back. His hands showed sign of heavy duty, seeing the callus on his hands. Mineworker maybe? Though Gangting. ‘Monster’s you say?’ Said Gangting as he looked at the man. ‘And a reward? I’m a warrior and might be of help with that.’ The man hadn’t noticed Gangting until then, a remarkable feat for Gangting. He is rather big and loud above all. ‘Yes M'lord, there are monster’s and the Magic Council pays good coin for those that help driving them away,’ said the man. ‘I wouldn’t go, they are fierce and the place is unsafe. Mines are safer, I can know.’ The bartender nodded. ‘Have you found your self ever battling monster’s then?’ Asked Gangting to the Miner. ‘Bartender, can you get me a pint of your finest ale? I’m going to get rich it seems.’ He rubbed his hands together to the thought of getting that reward. The Miner couldn’t find his words for a moment. ‘Eh, I, never fought anyone, M'lord.’ ‘Then how can you say that a mine is safer as a fighting monster? If you know how to make a mine, you will be safe. If you know how to fight, you will be safe,’ Said Gangting, with a smile. ‘Thanks,’ He said after receiving his pint. ‘… What if the monsters are too strong? Then you’re not safe,’ said the Miner. ‘Yes, but you wouldn’t make a mine in places where you can’t and you will leave the mine when you see that it will go down. So, does a warrior know when to fight and when not,’ Said Gangting to him. ‘Speaking of knowing, where are these monsters? What are these monsters.’ ‘Fat Monster Land, what sorts? The Gods may know what.’ Said the Miner uneasy while he looked in his glass. ‘I know what my destination is then, want to join me.’ Said Gangting with a grin on his face as he patted the miner on his shoulders. ‘Can I still get something for dinner?’ Asked Gangting to the bartender. ‘Yes, chicken legs with mashed potatoes,’ Was the answer. ‘I’ll take that please,’ Said Gangting. More folk entered the tavern, some when to the bar and others to the tables. Gangting spoke with some of them, about his and their adventures. Gangting ordered later that evening a room to stay in for the night.
He woke up early in the morning, the sun was nowhere to be seen yet. He donned his armour, attached his crimson cloak and fastened his sword to his belt. He walked down the stairs to the common room and saw that no one was there, not even the bartender. ‘You got be kidding me,’ growled Gangting softly.  He took a seat in the dark room, and somewhat an hour later the bartender appeared with a burning candle and started to light the lights. ‘M’lord!… you’re up early,’ Said the bartender surprised. ‘Can I get you breakfast?’ Said he quickly after that. ‘Breakfast would be great, together with a pint to wash it down.’ Said Gangting with a smile. He received his plate with breakfast a few moments later. Beacon, scrambled egg and a thick piece of black bread. He devoured it and drank his beer in one go. He then walked to the bar and laid down the coin. ‘I’ll be going,’ He said. ‘Good m’lord, may the gods protect you on the battlefield and gods speed on your journey,’ Said the bartender. ‘Tudigong, god of Land and Soil, watches over me and has lend me his strength. I’m as safe on that battlefield as in that Miners tunnel,’ Said Gangting grinning, as he left the tavern. The bartender whispered, ‘He would die in that tunnel…’ Little did he know that Gangting possesses earth based magic or better said. He is an Earth Demon Slayer.

Gangting road on his chariot pulled by two aurochs, he had conquered the chariot from a cyclops called Brontes the Thunderer. The chariot itself was magical and was called Thundering Wheels. He road with it through fields of golden wheat, green hilled meadows and through mountain passes. He slept from time to time under the moon lit sky and other times he slept in a straw or feather bed. It took him a while to get near the area where he was meant to arrive.

‘This is probably the last night that I’ll sleep outside this Fat Monster Land,’ Told Gangting himself. He would need to sleep lightly in hostile territory so they wouldn’t sneak up on him. Luckily the aurochs helped with it as well, most of the time they would notice any predator or monster before they arrive. Humans where a bit different, they could be tricked by them. Gangting made a fire and hung a rabbit above it until it was golden coloured and crispy on the outside.  The meat was tasty and rich through the use of spices. He went to sleep after he had eaten.
The next morning, he stood up early as usual. He warmed up some dried bacon and ate it with a loaf of bread. There was no need for dressing up, he had slept in his armour under his cloak. He attached the aurochs in front of the chariot and was on his way. He took the road through a small wood and road on into a meadow, where he saw two human beings or well human looking beings. You never know in this world. ‘hoow,’ Said Gangting soft to his mounts and then raised his voice. ‘I’m Gangting, Rightful King of Duoshang and here to fight the monsters. Who are the both of you?’
