    Motor City, a town of oil, grease and fumes, great for starting a fire, but not the best living conditions, which is why Fernus didn't plan on staying here for long , he was just there for a license, then he was gone. Fernus floated his way down the street towards the meeting place he had arranged with his driving instructor, he hadn't met them yet and didn't know who they were, this was how the driving company worked, this method makes it impossible for a student to get to know their instructor prior to the test, which avoids the possibility of students abusing the instructor's weak points.

    Upon arriving at the meeting point, Fernus' spirits sank, he could tell that he was in for a tough one. This guy was the real deal, he had it all: the clipboard, the rulebook, the glasses, the suit, the drained, tired expression, this guy was in a permanent state of negativity and it showed. "Um.... hello?" spoke Fernus with a rather high degree of nervousness in his voice, "We aren't here to chat, we're here for you to drive and for me to tell you why you shouldn't be allowed to, I'm sure you understand that" replied the instructor with a condescending tone to his voice. Fernus was in for one hell of a driving test.

    Fernus wasn't quite sure why he had convinced himself he needed a license, but he supposed it could be worthwhile, he was wrong. Fernus walked over to the parking lot of the licensing agency (which was just down the road from the meeting point) and was shown to his vehicle, it was a horrific vehicle halfway between a miniature van and an oversized car, also known as: "The four wheel drive" "Oh God" muttered Fernus with great distaste in his voice. Fernus hated 4WDs, they were clunky, annoying and overpriced, but he didn't really have a choice in the matter, so he hopped in and got to work. Fernus made sure to keep his eyes on the road at all times and follow every rule he could remember, even the ones that didn't completely apply to the situation. Even with all this hard work, Fernus still felt like he was doing everything wrong, this was mainly due to the constant shots being fired at Fernus by his instructor, including, but not limited to: "Speed up!" "Slow down!" "Turn Left!" "Turn Right!" "Stop!" "GO!" "What is wrong with you? You fool!" Need I say more?

    As Fernus drove around the practice course, he continuously became less and less enthusiastic about driving, he wasn't even that pumped to begin with, but that didn't matter, he had made a promise to himself and he planned on keeping it. As Fernus neared the end of his test, he decided to do something risky, but he knew it might pay off. He was coming up to a turn that he wasn't completely ready for and decided to use a technique that he had only just learned, "Let's do this!" shouted Fernus in his head as he pumped an excessively large amount of magic power into the lacrima and accelerated into the turn instead of slowing down like he usually would. As Fernus spun into the turn, he let out an excited "Whooo!" and used all of his focus acing the technique. Fernus looked over to the instructor, whose unreadable face shed no light into the old man's opinion, but since Fernus hadn't been screamed at yet, he knew he had done something right.

    "That was...interesting" spoke the instructor as he stepped out of the car, which Fernus had pulled to a stop. "It would appear that I underestimated your abilities, I don't usually see people pull off that technique. However, the speed limit was exceeded and for that I will have to deduct a point." as the instructor delivered his judgement, Fernus worried about the results of the test. "However, your final results are sufficient and your license is granted upon you, congratulations." Fernus was overjoyed, it seemed like things were finally going his way. He had joined a guild, he had met someone at the guild headquarters (a story for another time) and now he had done well in the first test he hadn't failed miserably in over 5 years. Everything seemed to be going perfectly, almost too perfectly. "Thank you, thank you so much!" cheered Fernus with a delighted tone. He was finally beginning to be happy, for now at least.
