What was a species like her doing out in the blazing heat of Phoenix Mountains, there to burn from the fiery depths of the sun? Marceline blinked her squinted eyes, finding that the sun hurt them just a tiny bit, though it was mildly tolerable. This place. . . she hadn't been here before, these mountains. . . but the wintry mountaintops of the structures were beautiful. She let a sigh escape her lips and she wandered the place that she was meant to meet someone here for. Unfortunately, she didn't know them; she knew their name now, but that was all that she knew about the person. Some. . . Kite. . . person that she wasn't aware of, but she doubted they were someone of dark prowess like her. The name was too. . . childish and happy. . . for them to be considered a "bad" person, so to say, but maybe they were.

The woman plopped her porcelain form onto the ground, eyes staring down at the ashen-gray color of her skin. It was almost as if she had been burnt by the sun, but that wasn't true; this was the color of death upon her. Her eyes wandered from her skin to the flora around her, to the grass that had wilted beneath her and turned brown. Cast over to the flowers that had bowed to her as their queen of death, their colors drained and petals wrinkled. A frown appeared on her lips and she crossed her legs Indian-styled, clasping her hands in her lap and letting her gaze drop to the grass in between her legs. Now, she just had to wait around for her partner, then they could get this show on the road and she could go home. A lot of doubt was in her mind that this partner of hers wouldn't be someone she was all that fond of, but no matter!

    - Kite

Kite had exited the guild hall and made his way to the dock where his airship Tailspin was parked with his orders his mission decided and the job was right up his alley literally and he was excited to proceed on his adventure today. He had sent word to his hired crew to spin up the engines and prepare the rest of the ship for take off, he had made it clear that he wanted to leave as soon as his job was picked. His boots clicked against docks until he reached the boarding ramp to where the subtle thuds of his boots turned to clinks and clanks on the metallic floor of Tailspin’s massive Cargobay. As soon as he entered the maintenance crew in the bay greeted him “The ship is all ready for take off sir!” Which the Slayer noded ”Great job, get ready, we are gonna take off soon.“ he said to them as he strode past them and climbed up the metal stairs that lead to the winding catwalk that wrapped around the upper level of the Cargobay and then took the second flight set of stairs that exited the Cargobay entirely and was now on the upper deck, standing in the doorway that connect the dining area on his left and the Foredeck to his right. He turned right walking across the Foredeck going past the 5 panels that led below the foredeck into the crew quarters and climbed the short set of stairs that would take him to the cockpit where his hired Co pilot was sitting in his seat on the left. ”Hows the morning going so far?“ he asked his copilot who smiled “It’s going smoothly Cap, we got a job?” Kite shook his head ”We have an assignment but its going to be one I have to go on my own.“ the answer slightly confused his fellow shipmate ”No passengers and no cargo. This is mage job.“ he said matter of factly an answer that his crewmate wasn’t excited to hear. “So does that mean no thrilling heroics for the lot of us?” He asked to which Kite smiled ”I wouldn’t go that far, cover fire might is always welcomed but the location is going to make it impossible to land.“ His voice grew more somber, the location of the job was one that held fond memories, and sorrow for him. The crewmate looked at Kite confused and hesitated with his question “Wh...where are we going?”, Kite’s eyes shifted over to his crewman followed by his face following  ”Phoenix Mountains...Plot the course. “ he said as he began to exit the Cockpit “Sir not flying?” Kite was asked only to stand still not turning around to look at his pilot ”No not today, I’ve got to get ready for the mission and clear my head. Let me know when we arrive, I’ll be in the cargobay.“ and with that Kite retraced his path going back down into the Cargo Bay where he would remain for the remainder of the trip.

The trip from Ace of Spades to the Phoenix Mountains would take roughly an hour and instead of being in the captain’s seat he sat near the door of the with his legs crossed so he was in Indian style with his hands cupped in front of him focusing his flames in his hands, making a condensed fireball. He was meditating to clear his mind from any distractions such as his memories of a friend who died during the explosion of Eclipse Soul. His state of meditation was interrupted by the sound of his crewman’s voice on the intercom “Cap, we are nearing the Mountain range. We are picking up a reading of a person out there. How would you like to proceed?” Kite looked at the intercom ”Person?“ he said to himself before he looked down at the paper he pulled out of his pocket at the note he wrote down that read ”Job comes with partner, Marceline. Right. How far out are they?“ he said pressing the talk button the reply was “two miles” Kite smirked ”Lemme out here.“ he presses the button to open the bomb door and as it lowered he dropped out and walked the rest of the way and stopped when he came across the only sign of life. She had ashen skin, black hair, red eyes and wearing a black outfit with a red cape. He took note of the dead plant life around her and sat down in front of her mimicking her seated position. ”Are you here to help take care of a little bug problem?“

    I HAVE BECOME DEATH
    the destroyer of worlds
    TAGGED: ...   |   WORDS: 521   |  NOTES: ...
It was the strong magical presence of another mage that caused Marceline to come out of her trance and look to Kite. She silently watched him as he positioned himself in the exact seated way that she was, red eyes following his movement. They were squinted, narrowed precisely to look as if she was scrutinizing the man, but she was doing none of that. Marcy was trying to get a read off his magic power, though all she could make out was just how powerful it felt to her. In fact, the strength of it felt almost like Raiza's, there difference there was that this man happened to feel just a tad stronger. Why was that? He felt the same level as her previous partner, yet something was off about this mage before her. Her eyebrows had knitted together in concentration unconsciously, until she realized that she was staring at him rather hard.

"Don't speak to me in that tone of voice. What do you think I am? A little girl?" she snapped, rising to her feet in that instant. The short woman was aggressively glaring at Kite now, arms crossed beneath her crimson cloak and weight pushed to one hip. One of her hands popped out from its hiding place and flipped her butt-length hair over her shoulder in a swift movement. Her blackened eyes were truly narrowed now, not against the sun any longer, but toward the man with the condescending tone. "I'll have you know, I am centuries older than you; in that case, you are the child here, not me!" A small humph managed to escape her lips and the revealed arm sunk back into its hiding place to cross over the other. She upturned her face from for just the moment, tapped one of her feet, then after a few seconds, looked back at him.

Marceline's voice had become softer as she spoke again, answering his question, "yes, I am here to take down some pesky, little bugs." Though she wasn't certain if they were exactly bugs, but she did know that they were some type of demon. "I don't suppose you're Kite Wilhelm then, are you?" the woman inquired, her voice picking up a higher tone. In all honesty, she was expecting to have a much stronger-looking partner than him, but he wasn't too shabby either. It wasn't that she doubted who he was, but rather, she had never met this man before, and thus, wasn't aware of his looks. Did he know her name? Should she introduce herself as well? Who was she kidding? He was likely told a while ago, like she had been. That wasn't the point though; the point was, they needed to get this mission on a roll because something was telling her not to associate with him.

With her hands falling to her sides, she lightly tapped her bare thighs and awkwardly looked around after her outburst. "So. . . uhm. . . how do you want to go about this job?" It was clear this was only her second time with having a partner for a job.

    - Kite

Upon Kite taking a seat after walking for two miles straight he asked the girl before him she was here to kill some bugs, however it would seem that he had somehow treated the woman before him as a child in the way he had spoken to her. Of course this wasn’t his intention in the slightest, he knew very well that she was a fully grown woman in every way that counted and most likely didn’t count but that wasn’t the point. Kite dare not speak at the moment, he knew it was better to let the woman vent out now rather than let her keep it bottled up so after crossing her arms and eventually flipping her hair over her shoulder with her black eyes narrowed at him as she exclaimed that she was centuries older than him and that he was the child here compared to her. Kite put his hands up ”Take it easy, I didn’t mean to make it seem that was my intention. I was merely sitting to be at eye level with you is all.“ he said in his defense which was half true. However her mentioning that she was centuries old was something of interest to him but of course he merely made a smart remark ”They must be jealous of you. Having both age and beauty.“ he said complimenting her in his own way before she answered his question from earlier confirming that she was in fact there also to exterminate some bugs, demon infected bugs but bugs all the same. She had followed her answer with a question regarding if he was Kite Wilhelm, it was during the time between her question and his answer that he felt her eyes looking him over but answered all the same ”Yes, that’s right. And I guess it is safe to assume that you are Marceline?“ he said as he pulled out the flyer where he had written down her name down to make sure he didn’t forget to locate her. Kite couldn’t help but notice something was off about the woman in front of her, she wasn’t coming off as a bad person or anything like that but it was just, there was something interesting about her, especially her unique colored skin which he had not seen on another human being. He extended his hand out to her for a handshake which if she accepted it he would have a firm but gentle grip and give a light shake. ”we got off on the wrong foot, maybe we can do a slight do over.“

It was after the introductions were out of the way that Marceline started getting down to business and asked the Demon slayer how he wanted to go about the job. Kite propped his chin on his hand ”Well, these bug demons are located in a cave somewhere within the Phoenix mountains.“ he said purposely stating the obvious ”So I guess we should start by locating it and we can go from there.“ he looked at her ”But of course utter destruction is alway preferable.“ he smirked before standing up and offered the lady a hand up ”Don’t suppose you have any idea where the nest for these bugs would be would ya?“ he asked her uncertain if she had already gathered information before their meeting. Truth be told he wasn't sure if she had ever encountered demons before let alone killed any which if it was revealed to be the case then luckily his magic would give them a slight edge here, but then again it was safe to assume with her claim to being centuries old he wouldn't be surprised if she had dealt with any either.

No matter how they stood or sat, Kite was going to have some height on her, as she was not that tall of a woman. Now that she was aware that it was not his intention to make her feel like a child, she merely nodded in reply. At least now, she knew that he wasn't half as bad as she was making him out to be; don't judge a book by its cover. It was a lesson that she needed to learn, as she had a tendency to quickly judge people just by how they dressed. Of course, that doesn't mean a person should ever be judged by the means of their personality either, that was just as worst. However, this was only a small portion of his personality that she was getting to see, who knows how else he acted. If he acted by any other means of villainous manner or flirtatious ways, she wouldn't hesitant to drop him then and there.

Despite being a rather smart woman, she was almost completely oblivious to flirtatious mannerism of men. This compliment thrown at her by Kite had quickly gone over her head as he had said it the moment that he stood. She was more so focused on the who, the "they," that he was referring to, which highly confused the black-haired lady. In spite of that dark hair of hers, she could be marked down as a ditsy blonde with how things so easily passed her. Marcy wasn't a flirtatious woman, at least not by her means, though to some, they would call her the succubus for a reason. At this point, she was standing there and staring at Kite with a rather confused expression gracing her porcelain skin. "Who are the 'they' that you're referring to?" she inquired, now quite curious to know what he meant by that.

She shook her head though, as she now noticed that Kite was sticking a hand out at her for her take a hold of and shake. For a moment, she had reached out to shake hands with him, but swiftly pulled her hand back before they could connect. Marceline kept her hand held close to her chest, now staring down at the outstretched hand that she could have decayed only moments ago. Her eyes envisioned the scene for her, despite having already pulled back, and the scene caused her to frown. No, she couldn't touch people without them getting hurt; she couldn't be around people without them turning to bones. If that had not been the case for the young beauty, then she would have gladly shaken hands with this man. "I-I'm sorry," she whispered, regrettably unable to take the offer that he was giving her, and turned away from him.

"I don't want to hurt you," she stated, deciding to move a little farther away from the demon slayer now. The closer she was, the more potentiality the other mage had at getting hurt by her aura, and she didn't want that. She didn't want to accidentally hurt people, when in reality, it was her duty to go about killing people for Death. As much as she was a dark mage, she would never intentionally hurt another human being, unless it was by orders of her master or if she gained something out of it. "But yes, my name is Marceline Anicetus; you're more than welcome to shorten my name to Marcy if that's easier. It doesn't matter now though, what's done is done, and you can't change the past, but you can change the future. " There a smile upon her face at those words, but they quickly disappeared as Kite brought up where the demonic bugs were.

"Unfortunately, I didn't do any sort of exploring, as I had just gotten here a few minutes before you had," Marcy responded. "It can't be too hard to find them though, as I can sense a magic presence near by, or rather, a disturbance, so to say. I guess it's best that we start searching for them if we want to get this over with being the day's through, no?" With that being said, the woman pushed off the heels of her feet and began walking forward, to wherever her feet would bring her. Hopefully, they would bring her to the demonic bugs, allowing for them to quickly get started on the job. "Though if I may, I'm curious to know something about you. . . would you mind me asking the question that's on my mind?" Of course, she wouldn't give him time to answer before she brought the question to light, saying, "your magical presence is quite strong. I'm curious to know why that is."

    - Kite

Kite was happy to see that the pretty woman before him nodded accepting his explanation to why he sat down as she was, having her upset at the start of the mission would not end well for the demon slayer, and he could tell that the tension had vanished by her facial expression. It also was apparent as she stood up and asked the demon slayer who the they he was talking about were. Kite just simply looked up at the woman with a smile as it was clear that his compliment and subtle flirt attempt had gone unnoticed ”Oh, I was just making a joke on how most women complain how their looks diminish as they age, meanwhile you are centuries old and don't look any older than 20 at most and are very much beautiful.“ he said that last part with a matter of fact tone of voice to show that he wasn’t trying to be funny nor was he trying to hit on her, just paying a pretty woman a compliment. Luckily as the little bit of time that had passed since their first meeting the tension had mostly vanished, and Kite tried to cement it by offering her his hand for a greeting which he saw she had attempted to take but as quick as he had put his hand out for a shake she had pulled her hand back holding it close to her chest and simply whispered that she was sorry before she turned away from the slayer. Kite didn’t like seeing this woman with such a sad face, he was going to reassure her that it was okay but her statement of that she didn’t want to hurt him poked at his curiosity a bit but none the less after standing he just stood there with a slight head shake ”It’s fine, there is clearly something you know that I don’t I appreciate your attempt though.“ he said to her reassuringly wishing he could pat her on the shoulder but heeded her warning and didn’t make contact with her assuming that it was touch what could hurt him. He smiled all the same when he heard her confirm that she was Marciline Anicetus but gave him permission to refer to her as Marcy which he committed to memory and she accepted his offer of a do over and made a remark on how you can’t change the past but you can the future which made Kite curious to if she was inferring that he would be a part of her future or was speaking more generally.

Those would be questions for after the mission was completed, which is what caused Kite to bring up the missions asking her if she had managed to discover the lair of the demons, a question which caused her pretty smile to vanish as she explained that she had not had the opportunity to explore and had actually arrived a few minutes before his own arrival. Kite let out a hum sound right before he heard her state that finding the demonic bugs wouldn’t be hard for she could detect magic presences or disturbances nearby. Kite was glad to see she was prepared with an ability to hunt down magical sources like that, but being a demon slayer he had a trick up his sleeve as well but Kite merely nodded to her question and started to follow Marcy who seemed to have just picked a direction to start walking in. He didn’t pick up anything at the moment and he figured Marcy hadn’t either when she began to speak once again which she asked him if he would mind her asking a question that was on her mind of course he didn’t get to answer before she asked the question regarding why his magic presence is quite strong and she wanted to know why Kite just behind her picked up the pace so she was next closer to her side shrugged at the question ”Oh if you are referring to what my magic is there is no problem telling you. You can ask me anything you want for that matter.“ he stated before answering the meat of her question. ”I’m a Flame Demon Slayer.“ he said to her while he used his demon sense to attempt to pick up any demonic signatures in the area. He didn’t stop this as he looked to her ”My turn.“ he said to her with a question already prepared ”You said you are centuries old, you don’t mind if I ask how exactly that came to be?“ he asked her but shortly after smirked as the presence of demonic activity caught his attention in the direction they were heading ”I think we are getting closer, ahead of us.“ he said pointing in the direction straight ahead of their current location.

When Kite explained the reasoning behind his compliment, an ashen hand reached up to her face and lightly touched it. She was this way for a single reason and that reason alone was because of Death, himself. . . she could not be more grateful. Yet this life of hers was just as much of a blessing as a curse and she could not help, but remember the way her magic worked. The more she learned to love someone and come close to them, the higher chance of their life being taken from her. It was similar to the Ankhseram Black Magic, but to her it was all the more different in that it took, even if she didn't like something. This magic took and took and that's all it ever did, and she had no way of preventing it from taking a life by her will. Her eyes were kept to the ground, still squinted against the sun, but she walked in silence with Kite talking next to her.

Next to her. . . No. . . No, he was in her aura, that's unacceptable! Marcy's eyes darted up to him as she sidestepped farther away. She could not be within fifty feet of him, lest something bad were to happen to this man with no permission from Death. How were they to communicate though? Fifty feet was so far away from him, they'd practically be yelling back and forth. Marceline had no choice, but to let him stand beside her, that is if she wanted to be able to talk to him at normal level. Her eyes were kept sparingly on Kite as she scooted back closer to him, though not too close to pose much of a danger. "They. . . call me Misfortune for a reason," she quietly answered him and would gently reach out to touch a place on his arm. If the connection was allowed, the skin there upon his arm would start to turn black and "burn" away to show muscle and bone.

"I can't help, but take life from everything around me. . . that's how I'm centuries old and still this young," she explained. "In fact, my body died all those centuries ago from an illness, and I was spared by Death under the contract that I'd be His servant. My body is just that. . . a walking husk, sustained on the life energy of things that aren't yet meant to die. Souls are my daily food source, this body must be giving a soul every now and then or it becomes unusable in this world." Marcy fell silent when Kite mentioned that they were getting closer to demonic activity, figuring now was not the time to continue sharing. At a later time, if he still wanted her to explain herself and her magic, she would happily inform him of it. People should know of its deadliness, should know that no matter who or what they were, it would capture them eventually.

However, she was slightly terrified by his magic, terrified with the knowledge that in the title was "demon." She was a demon no less, an undead as well, and his magic would hurt her just as much as her magic hurt him. Perhaps, it was best that she learned to keep her distance from him? They would only hurt each other, no? Willfully, her eyes left him and looked ahead, to where the demonic activity was coming from, noises of insects hallowed there. This place would be horrifying to the bug phobes, disgusting to some, and a heaven to those who loved bugs. Marceline was not terrified of this place, not in the least bit; however, as something jumped out at them, she nearly jumped from her skin.

    - Kite

The small trip from their meeting place to the eventual location of where the demonic bugs wasn't necessarily a long one in terms of measures distance nor was the overall time but the perspective of time was a different story altogether but only in the beginning. Kite had noticed the sudden movement of Marcy as she side stepped creating a significant amount of space between them, Kite found it odd but recalled their conversation and her refusal to shake his hand due to the physical contact they would make which in her words would hurt him. Kite made a hum sound when his eyes locked into hers for a moment but kept his face as straight as he could ”you don't have to be that far away ya know. I promise I will heed your wish not to be touched.“ he said to her just before she scooted back towards the demon slayer but what was to happen next would surprise him to say the least. Her gentle sounding voice picked up and she spoke up saying that they called her misfortune for a reason shortly after she gestured to touch his arm which he allowed.

He looked at his arm as a tingling and a slight burning sensation was felt and his eyes widened to see and even winced a bit but not from any pain he was use to much worse than this but from the shock of seeing his muscles and bone like that. As soon as she would remove her hand he would amp up his aura to burn away the affliction and it would heal due to the aura. He didn't say anything he just let her speak, sharing her story with him on how her body somehow feeds of energy produced by life itself and it was all due to how when she died centuries ago she became a servant of death. Kite could tell that this troubled her greatly and made mention of their nearing the demonic source but only as a means to get her to focus off the subject but what Kite would do next would certainly surprise her. Without stopping or even turning his head he would lightly place his hand on her cheek but only for a moment ”I've been through worse pain than what this does to me. “ His fingers did the same thing that his arm had done but remained resolute with his voice ”I doubt this pain is anything like the pain of not being able to touch another person.“ he said as his hand pulled away and stayed down at his side while the affliction slowly retraced and his fingers and palm went back to normal. He let his attention turn to the entrance to the lair that was before them. The demon slayer narrowed his eyes sensing the incredible amount of demonic signatures down the cave, it was almost like a whole colony but before he could truly take it all in he noticed with his senses the approach of two entities coming for them. One jumped out of the darkness at them but thanks to his ability to sense a demon nearby he wasn't caught off guard and actually caught the nasty bug in mid jump by its face ”Nasty.“ he said as he threw a side kick pushing it back into the lair it came from. ”I guess mission starts now.“ he said to her readying himself preparing to open the gates.

    the destroyer of worlds
    TAGGED: ...   |   WORDS: 507   |  NOTES: ...
She was sharing so much of her past with someone she had met only minutes ago, someone she knew nothing about. What was worse was that Kite was a Demon Slayer and she was a demon, herself: an undead being in the waking world. If he wanted to, he could easily turn on her and slaughter her right then and there, and yet, she wasn't scared of him. In fact, she was beginning to confide in him, find comfort in him, when no one in the world had gotten this close to her. He wasn't terrified of being near her. Nothing about the aspect of death seemed to scare him in her mind. She was delighted by this. Finally, Marcy had someone she could be close to, despite the aura eating away at them as the spoke and walked. That meant very little to her as long as he was able to be close to her. To be able to touch someone was the best feeling in the world.

Shock coursed through her body when he touched her face without looking at her: a genuine touch from a living being. If her heart was still a beating thing inside of her chest, it would've fluttered at the sensation, delight filling her to the core. The feeling was short lived though, for Kite had taken his hand away and was focusing on the entrance before them. Gates to the cave that blocked out the demonic bugs that resided inside, so they could not make a disturbance elsewhere. Marceline stared at the boulder of a gate that stopped the demons from leaving the cave, noticing the organic material it was made out of. She reached out to touch it, but as she extended her arm, one of the presences she felt from earlier jumped out at them. A scream bubbled at her lips from being taken by surprise, but Kite had quickly handled the situation and discarded the bug.

It appeared that one of the demons had managed to escape the confines of the cave, likely from a previous mage here. Marcy swallowed a lump in her throat as Kite stated that this was the point in which the mission was to begin. She noticed him getting ready to open the gates, but instead of letting him show off his prowess, the woman grasped hold of a bar. Specks of her decay energy crawled along the bar she held onto, corroding it away first before spreading out to the rest. Soon enough, no get was left and Marceline entered the darkness, disappearing from the burning light of the sun. Her eyes were well attuned to the darkness though and she could easily see in it as if she was in daylight. However, it was still quite dim in the cave and she even struggled a bit to see apart things from the shadows.

Once again, she felt that presence nearing Kite and her, and could even catch wind of footsteps in the air. Something was coming. . .

    - Kite

Kite didn’t speak on the topic but he was aware of Marcy’s surprise when his hand had made contact with her face, She had just mentioned not being allowed to touch another human so the unprovoked act of Kite’s actions would surprise most in that situation but not as much as she seemed surprised by the bug jumping up at their face from the mouth of the cave door. The demon slayer had caught and kicked the bug away from the two of them causing it skid across the ground until it came to a stop working its way back up to its nasty feet. Now that it was out in the daylight Kite was able to make out its detail more clearly, it had a tan colored shell with exposed red flesh by its neck area. It’s shell opened up into two segments showing that its wings for flight were no longer there, its six arms crossed over each other several times and aside from the pincer like jaw extending from it’s ugly face it had no other sort of appendages to be able to grab them with minus of course a gross bear hug from it’s six arms. A small shiver went up Kite’s spine, not from fear or disgust but from excitement for it had been quite some time since the demon slayer had the opportunity to face down any demon and this thing was radiating Demonic energy not as big as what he felt behind the metal door that blocked their way into the cave but still demonic all the same and that was enough of a reason to let loose for a change. ”Why grandma, what nasty...“ he was gonna borrow a quote from a fairy tale he heard once but stopped mid sentence, ”You know, nevermind, you gone and made your entire self hideous.“ the joking expression cast aside for the more steely and serious tone, almost merciless in sound ”I’ll put you out of your misery.“ he said as the gates of Hades opened up in front of him in the form of the reddish gold ripple and out from it came the handle of a sword longer than his forearm he grabbed it by the where the guard of the sword was and he pulled out his six foot long sword, Shamash and put it on his shoulder and was prepared for the attack that would come.

The stag demon would flap it’s wings and come in for a charging attack looking to nail Kite with either one of it’s claws or the wings on it’s back, what he wasn’t ready for was the speed at which it flew at him, he didn’t have a chance to truly react with a counter or to smash it away with his sword but that is when an idea came to him. He released the sword handle from his grip to let it rotate and stick into the ground from the tip of the blade as he pushed off with his feet to the side almost mimicking what matadors would do to a bull but instead of a red cape the stag would smash into the two ton sword falling back from the impact of a literal brick wall and landing on it’s wings preventing it from moving. By the time the beetle would have been able to regain it’s focus Kite was already standing over top of it with blazing white fire surrounding his knuckles as his finger were extended pointing at his target which was the beetle’s head and with a quick trust from his shoulder his open hand collapsed into a first and the demon slaying flames on his knuckles connected with the head of the stag causing a burst of fire to erupt and engulf the head in fire leaving nothing but a headless body twitching and fidgeting as if it was trying to comprehend the loss of it’s own head. Kite had then turned his attention back to Marcy who he left by the metal door, but his eyes would widen as he watched as Marcy, with just a touch of her hand would decay the door to nothing. She would enter first and Kite would follow her shortly after entering the darkened cave which only grew darker the deeper they walked and as it would happen Kite had an answer to the darkness. He let his aura flare up in his hand causing him to be a light in the darkness ”There now we can see a bit better now can’t we.“ he would say as he neared her side again ”There is quite a number of them through out the cave we should be ready for a possible ambush.“

    I HAVE BECOME DEATH
    the destroyer of worlds
    TAGGED: ...   |   WORDS: 673   |  NOTES: ...
Her world lit up around her as Kite summoned up a small, flickering flame of his aura into his hand; a guiding light into the darkness. She squinted her eyes at the sudden brightness and breathed in slow and deep, as if she was suffocating from the heat. Marceline picked up the pace some, moving away from the fire and back into the cool air of the cavern deeps. The light, now behind her, was enough for her to see some of the glittering eyes of the demonic bugs as they watched them. They wouldn't come near though, the intensity of the heat something that they didn't want to experience by getting to close. Blame couldn't be placed on them when she, herself, had moved out of the source of heat to not feel as if she was burning for her sins. What sins? She didn't know, but the heat of the flame was intense enough to her to make her feel slightly uncomfortable.

Cavern waters dripped and echoed through the stone halls, those beady eyes following their every move as they advanced. Marcy glanced around, eyeing each pair that eyed her back, wondering if any of them would be brave enough to attack. Did they know why they were down here? If they did, why they were not attacking them on the spot? Chatters of the demonic bugs rang into her ears, alerting her of the sounds of evil as they descended deeper into the depths. At one point, she had become certain that one of the bugs had gotten close enough and reached out to her with a sticky, clawed arm. A shiver ran down her spine not one of fear, but of disgust at the idea of the slime of the demons touching her deadened skin. No, she wouldn't be able to feel it if it was corrosive, but the idea of something as gross as that was a no-go for her.

"Do you think they know why we're down here? Or do you think they would've attacked us by now if they did?" Marcy inquired in a low tone. She didn't want to disturb the creatures that slumbered close by or hadn't been provoked by anything to attack them. If they could get down to the lower levels, where the true nuisance was supposed to be, then they wouldn't have to worry about killing these damned bugs. Unfortunately, Marceline didn't know how the bugs would respond once the mother insect had been slaughtered and disposed off. They could either go haywire on them and ambush them all at once, or they'd enjoy the freedom from being a hive mind. Her eyes flickered from side-to-side and the sound of insects' feet skittering across the stone floor caught her attention. The next thing she knew, she was slammed into the stone wall, knocking her head into it and dazing herself momentarily.

Marceline grimaced and leaned forward, rubbing the back of her head with a gentle hand, as though she could feel the pain. Slime dripped onto her arm and sizzled and she looked down at the spot where the venom had a corrosive effect. From between the strands of her hair, she'd look up to see one of the demonic bugs hovering over her, it's mouth open and dripping venom. That wasn't what caught her attention though, it was the beady eyes of a few other insects behind it that drew her attention. Slowly the woman stood to her feet and reached a hand forward, grabbing her assailant around the neck. Particles of death energy peeled off in flecks from the bug's neck, where her hand was grappled around it. "Exorcizamus te omnis immundus spiritus, omnis satanica potestas, omnis incursio infernalis adversarii, omnis legio, omnis congregatio, et secta diabolica. Ergo, draco maledicte. Ecclesiam tuam securi tibi facias libertate servire, te rogamus, audi nos," she mumbled.

A white aura enveloped the demon, like a blazing inferno, and the bug started letting out a screech as it was burned by the death energy.

Faith won’t always save you. My flames will do that instead.

Kite’s hand was lit ablaze with the purpose of lighting their way through the bug infested cave and although his intentions were meant to help but the heat that would radiate from the flames he created would cause discomfort for his partner to the point to where she felt the need to pick up her speed to walk further ahead of him to escape the heat, in reaction to this he lowered the heat of his flame a bit to make it a lot more bearable ” Sorry about that. I’m not use to I turned down the heat, you can get a tad closer. Don’t want to be too far out if they decide to get on the offensive.“ The Demon Slayer said to Marcy, he wanted to apologize in a bit better of a way but at the same time he was had his attention more focused on the various demonic energies ahead of them as they continued to descend deeper into the cave towards the danger, the multitude of demonic signatures, with one feeling much more dangerous than the rest but he was too far from it to actually be able to tell what exactly the species was of this particular demon but he knew well enough that once that battle started it would be the hardest and strongest demon he would have fought to date. The notion of which got Kite excited enough to pick up the pace to catch up to Marcy. It was when he got closer that she had asked him a question regarding if the bugs knew the reason for why they are down here and gave a second option about the matter if that were the case would they have attacked already. The Demon Slayer pondered this question for a second before opening his mouth to speak ”hmmm that is a good question.“ he compiled his thoughts and then continued ”Without a doubt I doubt they know anything. Based on the beast that we encountered it would seem they are more feral and rely on instinct. The big bug in charge however would have some level of intelligence however. Unfortunately for us an attack is going to happen sooner rather than later. They most likely can sense what I am might be prone to attack.“

Kite couldn’t have been more correct, he heard the scattering of feet on the cave floor but it was too late, he saw Marcy being bumrushed by a beetle similar in looks to the stag beetle form before but slightly smaller but it hovered over Marcy who was on the ground with searing venom dripping on her skin, ”Woah, Marcy are you...“ he was in the middle of asking if she were alright but as he started his approach on the beetle to back up his partner something unexpected happened. Bursting through the wall completely flanking the demon slayer was a massive beetle silver in color and much larger completely overpowered Kite and slammed him into the wall. He wasn’t paying attention and didn’t think to consider that the beetles could have burrowed tunnels next to the main passageway. Kite was strong enough to hold it at bay for the moment but being pinned by a bug as big as this with many arms he had to get away. ”Wow and just when I started to think they couldn’t get any uglier.“ Kite opened his hand activating the gates again this time it rippled not before him but right above the massive beetle and slowly a sword started to slide through it tip first and it dropped right next to the beetle severing one of it’s arms clean off. It backed off and let out a shrieking cry which is when Kite made his move. His arms were out wide as two streams of fire flared out in a large plumes but soon began to condense down into the shape of two twin swords ”Flame Demon’s Flambergs “ which was the name of his twin sword spell. With his right hand he slashed downward at angle searing through its front most arm following up with an arching left kick slamming into the beetle’s hard shell causing stinging to ring through out his leg. ”Gah, it’s like armor.“ Kite had a momentary limp before he shook it off in time for a face off with the bug who brought it’s sharper claw for an attack which Kite countered with a reverse swing slashing under its arms striking it’s side. He saw he was standing by his large sword that was sticking out of the ground he turned and used is right foot to kick it but towards the bug striking it in the back where it’s shell was segmented striking right into the soft flesh of the bug causing it to fall back with it being propped up by only the handle and blade. Kite jumped up and came down slamming his feet on the torso of the bug causing it to slide down the length of the blade causing further damage internally. Kite was ready to finish it off but he stopped when he heard a strange sound, words in a language he had only heard once in his life and his eyes locked on the source. It was Marcy just holding onto the bug surrounding it with a white aura which he realized was the death magic she mentioned before ”Wow, now ain’t that something.“ he would say ignoring the still very much alive demon bug which twitched and tried to grab a hold of Kite with its remaining arms but not willing to have it Kite swept his blade across the neck of the demon searing through it effectively decapitating it. ”Don’t worry, the rest will join you.“ he said turning his attention to the numerous number of bugs that would be his next target. ”Marcy, we have a bug problem.“

Her enemy's wings buzzed a little in response to her attack, though the buzzing quickly stopped as its wings were soon eaten by her magic. They crumbled into ash on the ground below and the bug began to panic as it noticed the buzzing was no longer apparent. It tried to flap its wings that were not there, struggling to figure out what had happened and ultimately becoming distracted by it. The beetle let out an estranged sound, whipping its head from side-to-side as it looked for what could not be seen. After a few moments of frantic look-about, the insect turned its attention back on Marcy and released a hiss into her face. She squinted in disgust from its retaliating, lifting her free hand up to her face and wiping away the spittle. Her nose was wrinkled in revolt and with her free hand, she swung it to the right, releasing a large, crescent-shaped blade.

The opponent looked rather taken aback by the appearance of a large, sharp blade and defensively attacked with its claw. Its appendage dug into the frail skin of the ashen-colored female, gauging a hole into the center of her stomach. Marceline could not feel the pain that she was meant to feel if she was alive and stood there as plain as day, unaffected. As this attack went through, the blade she had summoned sliced into the target, chopping its right arm clean off. Her opponent's arm toppled to the ground, where it crumbled into ash the moment it touched the cave floor. It screamed out in pain and stumbled backward as a result of its arm being ripped off by the death blade. Unfortunately, it'd retaliate by slashing out with its lower right arm, though Marceline had narrowly dodged its blow.

She gritted her teeth and reached out with her right hand again, grabbing hold of one of its horns and slamming her left fist into the bottom of its jaw. The beetle stumbled backward from the impact, lowering its head to look at her, but fell to its knees seconds later. One down, two more to go. . . Marceline turned her attention to the beetle that had flanked her first enemy on its right. It gave out a screech and launched itself at her, but she countered with a quick flash of her wrist and a good punch to its gut. This one stumbled backward on impact as well, and she relentlessly moved forward, landing another blow on its arm. Her next attack had been followed by a hit to the jaw, forcing the beetle against the wall and leaving it no time to react. As a final attack, the woman dug her hand into the chest of the beetle and ripped its heart out.

Marcy unlatched her whip from her right hip and swung it around above her hand, lashing it out toward her final enemy. The whip's blades easily latched onto the leg of the final Bombardier beetle, who, in response, began to steam at its mandibles. She yanked her whip rather harshly as it began to steam, forcing its attack to end as it fell to the ground. It writhed and wriggled in her weapon's grasp, but to no avail was it able to get out of the confining grip of the blades. Her lips spread into a wicked grin, her grasp on her whip tightening as she pulled her enemy closer to her. A manic look was upon her face and as she released the whip's hold, she ran forward and landed a kick to its side. This kick was then followed by a downward punch into its stomach, making the beetle quiver from the blow.

Its leg reached upward and kicked at her, resulting it a gut-wrenching blow to her side, causing her to stumble off a bit. Marceline only fought back in revolt against the beetle, using her whip again to land a lashing onto its side. The lash was followed by another to its face, the blades cutting deep gauges into the insect and spilling green blood. A third lashing ran across the legs of the beetle, hindering its limb, so that it was unable to get up from the ground. Her whip was lassoed back in and latched back onto her hip, and with a final strike of her fist, the beetle was killed off. She cracked her knuckles in response to the finishing off her enemy, rolling her neck as if it was sore, though she couldn't feel pain. Afterward, Marcy looked to Kite, seeing how he had entered into a battle with one of the more stronger of demons.

That was one bug down for the count but not without effort, Kite could have just about kicked himself for letting a demon catch him off guard in such a way would more than certain cause Asmodeous to look upon him with shameful eyes. That was a look he would avoid from here on out especially now that the demons had gained Kite’s full attention and had every single one of them pinged with his demon sensing ability. Kite wasn’t sure how Marcy was doing with her opponents or rather victims which he saw her handily handle some of the bugs that had jumped her. This took a load of his shoulders in a way. He wouldn’t have to come come and rescue her from peril, at least not for the moment even though he would if the situation called for it. After the quick glance at his job partner he would set his sights on the wall where the massive beetle broke through for its attack on Kite. ”If wonder….“ Kite said letting his senses go off like a radar and he was right, right around on inside of the opening he felt the presence of another bug similar to the variety of bug he and Marcy had encountered at the entrance of the cave. ”Hide and seek huh?“ Kite would say as he cocked his right hand back and pivoted on his heel to the left turning towards the wall with flames swelling around his fist and ready to go ”Olly olly oxenbug!“ he said during the rotation and once he had came around fully the flames on his fist had grown quite large and his hand was already on it’s way out as a punch ”Flame Demon’s Desolation Fist!“ he shouted as he threw out not only his own hand but a large fist bigger than himself made from his flames and it rocketed towards the spot on the wall where the demon was still waiting and the fist broke through the hollowed out wall catching the bug with his flames causing it to squeal out in pain. It had ran through the smoke towards Kite with it’s incredible speed looking to strike Kite with its wings. A clever tactic if not for Kite shifting to the side and grabbing the bug by its face and one of it’s arms pushing back into it. ”Sorry but up and close is my thing.“ he would say as he would throw his knee into the underbelly of the bug striking a much softer area than the shell on it’s back. When it’s wings gave up the struggle against Kite’s strength and went to what would be it’s knees if it had any. Kite smirked when he saw this. ”Must suck for you… you had no idea that I was a demon slayer.“ he said with a big ol grin on his face as he reached down picking the bug up over his shoulders and once it was secured he would let the flames sprout from his feet and shoot him up into the air using his fire rocket ability smashing the bug into the ceiling wall up above and that is when something unexpected happened. The bug yelled out in more pain than he had expected and once he landed on the ground and took the time to look up he saw why. Sticking out it’s right side was a sharp pointed rock that was attached to the ceiling and kept it pinned up there. Kite realized his current position was directly beneath the stuck bug and a grin came across his face as flames swirled beneath his feet circling around him with his arms crossed across his chest before thrusting his hands up towards the ceiling with his palms facing the bug ”Flame Demon’s Commandment. First!“ he shouted as the swirling flames turned into a torrent of flames circling each other until it capped off at the top which also rotated and struck into the stag beetle catching it completely defenseless, engulfing it in all of the swirling flames reducing it to ash. Kite brought his hands back down happy with how things had progressed but that is when he got a ping from his senses of an incoming threat from below so he jumped up in time to see another one of those beetles with outstanding strength attempted to breech attack him. Kite back flipped and remained facing the nasty bug. ”Bring it on.“ he would say having it’s full attention and leaving a possible opening for Marcy to strike if she had an opening.

Marceline heaved a heavy breath of air and flopped against the wall, resting her head against it while Kite fought off his opponent. Her eyes were closed for a brief moment, up until she felt a flare of heat wash over her and she opened them to look at her partner. A flash of fire whizzed past her and blasted into the cavern wall, igniting the darkness with a brilliance of light. She squinted her eyes against the brightness, even hissing a little at the strong sense of heat, then it died down. Colors dotted her sensitive eyes, clouding what vision she had prior to the fiery event, but they were settled on the Flame Demon Slayer. Blindly, she stood to her feet, slow, but managing, then felt for the wall next to her and let her hand guide her along. Soon enough, the dots of colors had faded from her sight and she could see Kite clearly, noticing the dripping of blood to the ground.

A loud screaming entered her ears and she looked up to the ceiling, catching sight of one of the demonic bugs impaled on a stalagmite. She wrinkled her nose in disgust as she saw green blood from his enemy falling to the ground in a sickening puddle below. It stopped moving eventually and she looked back to Kite, who, after having slaughtered his first enemy, had now been busied by another. Her eyes followed him along, watching as he back-flipped away from the nasty-looking bug and left an opening for her. Marcy supposed that he wanted her help, rather than having her standing around or fighting off too many bugs at once. So, she took him up on the offer and raised a hand toward the bug, breathing in a deep breath of air before releasing it. Closing her eyes momentarily as she breathed in, then opened them; another breath in and she moved her hand to her mouth.

"Schlaflied," the woman mumbled, closing her hand enough, so that only a small gap was left where her pinkie curled inward to her palm. Death energy swirled at the opening of her closed palm and as she blew outward, the energy shifted into a massive cone shape. The beam brightened up the area with its sharp whiteness and blasted into the demonic bug, pushing it back into a solid wall. It let out a horrified scream as its body was forced into a state of decay from the spell, even left with a little of an aftereffect. Her hand dropped to her side and she breathed in after the spell had come to a full end and the bug was left dazed. She looked to Kite briefly, then smiled at him, as if to say, "hey, I can do really cool stuff, too, show-off." Marceline stuck her tongue out at him, but as she did so, the bug had regained its composure and had charged her.

The insect slammed into her side and threw her off balance, rocketing her into the cave wall, enough to send shards of stones onto her. She groaned and rolled onto her side, one had lifting her up; a few of her ribs had cracked from the impact and broke. Marcy couldn't feel the pain, but the injuries were there, stabbing into organs that no longer worked and causing cracks to appear on her skin. A light seemingly slipped through those cracks and floated into the air, which caused Marceline to flop back onto her side. One soul that sustained her body and allowed for it to function had slipped free and began floating away, deeper into the cave. Without souls, her body would stop functioning; it would cease all means of mobility, until souls had been absorbed again. By now, she was breathing heavily, and the insect was towering over her, reaching down to lift her up by the collar of her cloak.

Cracks upon her face showed true as she was raised up into the air, her body limp, though her limbs moved slightly. "Hey. . . bugs for brains," she spoke to the creepy-crawly softly, lifting a hand gently and beckoning with her pointer finger. It breathed nastily onto her, but looked at her as she mumbled to it, letting out a rumbled guttural cry at her. "Look into my eyes, why don't'cha?" In that moment, the woman would shift her head a little and she'd look straight into the insect's eyes. Her opponent became paralyzed with fear as their eyes met, reduced to nothing, but a statue standing taunt in place. She was eventually let go and fell roughly to the ground, where she coughed and weakly rolled back onto her feet. "That. . . is the power. . . of Übel Öhr," she grunted out, standing slowly and dizzily to her feet, but nonetheless there.

However, the beast wasn't entirely paralyzed; no, it had only been momentarily frozen in fear before regaining composure. It whirled on her and Marcy, out of pure instinct, dispersed into a cloud of ash, so that any attack the bug made, would go through her. To the outside viewer though, she would have looked like she exploded or possibly even crumbled to the ground. She was, now, resting in the air as a mass of ash flecks, hidden by the darkness of the cavern's shadows. Occasionally, she could be seen floating there and as the bug whizzed through them, they would swirl around in every direction. As quickly as she had dispersed, she had formed back together and fell back to the ground, as if it had taken much energy out of her. This time, she did not get up, but rather, she sat there on the ground and let Kite head in for an attack on the insect.

Faith won’t always save you. My flames will do that instead.

Kite had made short work of his target reducing it to ash with his Flame Demon’s Commandment and now it was on to the next target whom Marcy had already engaged in combat with the last demon in their presence. The demon slayer had not seen the strike that had stuck the undead beauty but he did take notice however of the cracks that were running through her skin and within those cracks shined a light, a light bright in color consisting of white or a bright golden color. It was something Kite had never seen before and he was ready to act when he saw Marcy was picked up by the bug, holding her up by her collar but before he could make his first step Marcy spoke to the bug, a command. She had commanded it to look into her eyes and when it did it froze in place and Marcy fell free from it’s control and rolled back to her feet. Thinking that the bug was going to be frozen in place Kite advanced towards Marcy only to be caught off guard by what happened next, the bug’s attempt to strike her again but right before it made contact with her, Marcy vanished in a cloud of ashy smoke, a sight that caused Kite’s eyes to widen. ”Marcy!“   he shouted with a distinct concern in his voice, but soon the concern and worry vanished as fast as Marcy had in that moment. ”You bastard will pay for that!“ he shouted as the flames surrounded him signifying his anger was flared up and with his feet lit ablaze he charged at the bug with his movement amplified and he closed the distance between them and slammed his fist into the bug sending it crashing into the a nearby wall and away from Marcy. While it was effective in getting it away from her it wasn’t enough to keep it down for good,no he would need to do more. He walked over to the bug as it attempted to push itself off the ground Kite’s boot would stomp on it’s back driving it flat onto it’s belly and would remain pressure on it to prevent it from coming back up. Kite would lean over with his head craned over the bug ”Flame Demon’s Rage.“ he would say with no remorse in his voice as a plume of fire would erupt from his mouth and engulf the demon’s upper torso in flames completely cremating half of its body. Kite’s gaze would shift from the bug to Marcy who was laying on her back after reforming into a solid body but the cracks were worse and there were more and more lights escaping from them.

Kite couldn’t sense anything from them, they weren’t many but he had seen this once in the demon world, they were souls. ”She...souls are her life source. he said, realizing quickly just what was happening. He had not seen someone like her but he was aware of the existence of beings that lived off the souls of men.. Succubus was a common word for them. ”I don’t know where they came from…. I don’t know what you did. But they gotta go back. You’re not dying on me.“ he declared but at the moment it was all talk. He had not the ability to harness souls nor manipulate them so he had no true method of driving them back into her and she was fading fast, he could tell by the amount of souls pouring out of her, it would be like how blood would pour out of a human, only so much can be lost before it’s too late. That’s when a thought came to him ”If i can’t heard them to her then plan B”“ he would think as he began to inhale sucking in a lot of air into his lungs but he also sucked the souls that had escaped from her into his mouth and held them there, his cheeks were puffed like a squirrel with food in it’s mouth and then Kite closed his eyes and only wished he could say sorry to her for what he was going to do next. He leaned down next to her and presses his mouth against hers and expelled the souls that he stored into her mouth with the hope that this would be a sufficient way to give her souls back to her. He would break away and watch to see if it had worked.

Laughter seemingly came from her lips as she rested there on the on ground, not moving, but still breathing altogether. She would never hear the end of this from Kite or anyone else if they knew how close she had come to being just an inanimate object. Swallowing her pride and the laughter that exited her mouth, the woman turned her head slightly and watched as Kite rushed the insect. This was their last standing enemy, and she observed how the man had rampaged toward the demon without hesitation. It was as if he held her dear to his heart, even though the two of them had just met only a few moments ago. Something about him intrigued her and she let a smile play across her lips before she looked away from him. He seemingly cared a lot for her, but she didn't want that coming from him, not when he didn't know what he was getting himself into.

A wave of heat flashed over her and she turned her head back to look at Kite again, catching site of a blast of fire. It billowed outward as it crisped the demonic bug's upper body, leaving its lower half to twitch and fall still. Her eyes studied the Flame Demon Slayer more closely at this point, noticing how his rage easily too control of him. This was much like her own magic in how she often inverted on the thought of killing out of anger and resentment toward others. Yet at the same time, she also killed just to kill, as if she found some sort of sick entertainment out of it all. Slowly, her eyes closed and her breathing had become more shallow, though she was still listening to Kite's movements. He was frantically thinking, possibly about the souls from her body that contained her movements and the black that leaked from the cracks.

An eye cracked open and she saw Kite inhale the spirits that had swelled up into a cloud just slightly above her, though began to stray. What was he doing? Souls were not meant to be swallowed by living beings, it would cause them too much injury. Her other eye opened wide with other and frowned at what he was doing in order to try and save her body. This was what she wanted. . . she wanted eternal rest and here this man was, trying to keep that wish from her. Marceline grunted and closed her eyes again, not wanting to watch as Kite sucked in the few souls that had escaped her. By now, she was laying in a pool of her own black blood anyway, though losing it all wouldn't harm her in the least. Suddenly, the sound of boots walking toward her informed her that Kite had retrieved all of the souls into his body.

What came next was unexpected and her eyes had opened wide as Kite pressed his lips to hers and expelled the souls. Her mind and body had easily accepted the escaped souls again, healing the cracks that had run throughout her body. When her body had restored back to its natural state, the woman sat up and stared back into the eyes of Kite Wilhelm. She had no words to explain what had just gone on and she had no words to explain what she was now feeling toward him. Marceline simply sat there and stared at Kite, unsure of what to do or what to say to him without making it awkward. Looking away from him, Marceline slowly stood to her feet, dusting off the dirt of the cavern from her clothing. "I-I'm sorry you had to do that. I didn't realize how weak I actually was," the woman quietly spoke to her partner.

Kite’s lips had pressed against Marcy’s as he let the souls that he had sucked into his mouth pass into her’s and filling her body with them. Kite had no idea if it was working at first but when her eyes had suddenly flashed open he knew that it had some effect whether it have been the souls passing through his mouth into hers or if it was just the action of his lips touching hers.Kite used his stomach muscles to help push the numerous souls from his body into hers and would only pull away once he felt every last one leave his body. Kite backed away once he broke contact, actually surprised that he wasn’t affected by her decaying ability and just watched as the cracks that had flooded her body to seal up showing clearly now that his plan worked and she wasn’t going to vanish. He would watch as she sat up staring right at him and would just remain seated upright silent as her eyes gazed into his. Kite wasn’t sure if he should apologize to her for doing that or if he should remain silent or even change the topic by going to move onto the rest of the demons in the cave. A bead of sweat would roll down his cheek as he would watch her look away from him and stand up, which he would do as well while she dusted off her clothes apologizing to him for showing how weak she was. Kite heard this and put a hand on her shoulder, ”I didn’t see any weakness here. If you were weak then you wouldn’t have comeback.“ He would say to her and would walk around so he was making eye contact with her again. ”It takes a great deal of strength to accept help from another...although you didn’t really accept it more like I...“ He would pause for a second ”I’m sorry if I have crossed some sorta line by doing that..but it was the only thing I could think of to save you.“ he would say started to defend his actions even though there was no real need to but a smile would form on his face changing course to his playful nature ”and i swear, i felt the earth shake when it happened.“ he would say to her but unfortunately due to the amount of impacts and fighting that was taking place the cavern floor’s structural support gave way right beneath their feet and they would fall through with it plummeting into the darkness.

They would land on something soft and moist which would be the only reason why they didn’t die or get hurt in the fall. Kite would sit up and look down at Marcy ”Hey are you alright…?“ he would ask her and as soon as she would answer they would hear the sound of something breathing and almost snarling. Kite’s gaze would shift from her to the thing that was the cause of all the demons. Standing twenty some odd feet in front of them was a massive demonic bug with a long pointed face that only a mother could love. It’s arms were long and claw like resembling that of a praying mantis. It had a long slender torso that rounded out in a fat bulbous body, like an egg sack with four legs on each side. ”Uhm Okay I take it back.. Now we have a bug problem.“ Kite would say to her before a sudden change in temperature would occur and a whitish blue aura would radiate from the Demon and our from him a large wave of cold would come at them. Kite would then turn and roll Marcy out of the way of the frozen nova and attempt to take the brunt of the attack by using his body as a shield a few meters in front of her. He would grunt against the attack and fall to one knee as the cold could be felt through his body for the first time in years.

"I am weak in power, I let it get to me," she stated in a snappish tone, crossing her arms just below her bosom. She stared intently back into Kite's eyes, shrugging off his hand from her shoulder and letting her hair fall over her face. "I only came back because that's what the souls do; they animate this body, they let it function like a normal body. Without them, this. . . clay figurine would just be that, an inanimate object with no sense of life or meaning." A frown pursed her lips together, but other than that, she had no true reaction to what had gone on between the them. That was highly incorrect, she was merely hiding what she had felt; that gentle spark, though she barely recognized it. It had been there and it was curse to have felt what she had, for she knew what it was that had gone through her brain.

"It's not that I don't accept help; I would most definitely accept it, but I do not like being seen as weak to others," she answered him. "No, don't say that I am not weak in your eyes because I am certain that you secretly believe I am as such. Deny it all you want, but your subconscious believes it, and I will not stop you from believing such a thing either." Marcy brushed the hair out of her face, never letting the eye contact go when she had spoken to him of her weakness. In her eyes, she was terribly weak, she could not match the prowess in which he had displayed toward the insects. Perhaps it was because of the job they were on; this was a mission far stronger than she happened to be. Yes, that had to be it. She was not weak, herself, it was merely the fact that this job was a rank higher than her own.

In that moment, the ground rumbled and Marcy found herself losing her balance slightly as it shook the caverns. "Because Kite, that's not just your mind thinking it!" she called out, reaching toward him just as the ground collapsed beneath them. For once in her life, fear could be seen clear in her eyes as they tumbled to the pit that rested below where they had been. She had never been as frightened as she felt now, for the moment she hit the ground, who knows what damage she would take. Feeling the emptiness around her, Marceline closed her eyes and bit her lip, certain Death was coming for her now. When she thought she was about to hit the ground, it came as a surprise to her when they struck something squishy. Peeking an eye open, the beauty looked around at the darkness that surrounded them, the stench of maggots filling the air, and a formidable presence nearby.

"Y-yeah, I'm all right," she answered his inquiry, dazed and slightly confused, but nonetheless was not hurt. Slowly, she stood back to her feet, feeling slime covering her sides and wondering what exactly they had fallen into. Her nose wrinkled in disgust, but it wasn't that she was grossed out by what they had fallen into, it was the stench of it. Maggots were everywhere, and she didn't know the source of where they were coming from, until she had looked up. Eyes growing wide, the abysmal blackness all that was noticeable in her eyes, the fiery dots pinpointed upon Bariael. "T-that's a really big bug," Marcy pointed out, raising a finger and pointing at it, though the next thing she knew was Kite slamming into her side. She let out a terrified scream and grabbed hold of him as they went tumbling to the ground, frigidness suddenly enveloping them.

The Mark of Lilith pulsated on her back, a shock wave sent outwards and causing Marceline to grit her teeth against the feeling. If it was anything that could make her feel, it was the exotic pain from the mark as it activated via her unfelt emotions. Cracking of bone could visibly be heard as vertebrae shifted and reformed, allowing for the growth of wings. Tearing from her backside, the majestic, leathery darkness of her bat-like limbs spread outward and wrapped around Kite. Though they were made of what felt like leather, the wings were strong enough to be able to project some of the cold from them both. Her clothing shifted from the cloak and leather she was most known for, for a hardened casing around her breasts pelvic area. It coated her arms, changing the slender fingers of the beauty to massive, claw-like structures up to the middle of her biceps.

Horns sprouted from the sides of her head, curling into thickness, until they ended at sharp points ready to impale their victims. A tail formed from her backside, snaking out to a barbed ending, where it was as sharp as a knife and could easily dice flesh.  Empowered by this new form, Marceline's single thought was aimed to protect the one who was protecting her. The first thing that she did was look Kite in the eyes, and without another word, she kept him locked in the embrace of her wings. She turned them over, so that she was resting on top of Kite and he was on the ground beneath her, then she looked to the assailant. A hiss left her mouth, revealing fang-like canines that had venom oozing from their tips. Pulling her wings out from under him, the woman flapped them once and she was lifted into the air with ease.

A deep breath inward and a blast of death energy was released outward in a cone-like shape from her mouth toward the bug. It let out a screech as the damage was dealt to it, moving its praying mantis-like arms in front of it to block her spell. Clouds billowed out from her mouth from the frigid air, but other than that, Marceline looked to be better than ever. . . quite literally. She kept herself afloat in the air, her wings beating occasionally as they worked to keep her level in the spacey area. Her reddened gaze cast down toward the Demon Slayer from where she was levitating above him, making sure he was all right. Marcy would then look back to the demonic bug and pull her hands close to her abdomen, creating an orb of death energy in her palms. Once it was large enough, a beam shot out from it, rocketing in a B-line for the maggot-like beast beyond her.

Faith won’t always save you. My flames will do that instead.

It would seem that Kite’s attempt of convincing her that she was not weak were not received very well. She admitted she was weak in power and she had let it get to her and then shrugged off his hand from her shoulder and gave him a stern stare. She stated that she had only came back because that is what the souls do, they animate her body making it possible for her to appear alive. She belittled her existence more and then declared she had no problem accepting help, but when he said she wasn't weak in his eyes she went off on a small rant saying that deep down he secretly thought she was weak whether he knew it or not. He crossed his arms just as she was doing and shook his head, ”Sorry, but you're wrong. Not even deep down do I view you as weak and for someone who doesn't want to appear weak you sure seem to want to convince me other wise. You're not weak and I don't think you're weak.“ he would say standing firm. He would sigh and return the state ”We can continue this talk about you being weak or not when the jobs done, but I bet you will surprise the both of us by the end.“ he would say as he did his best not to scold her. He received a response regarding his statement about the earth shaking and then the next thing he knew the floor was gone and they were landing in the lair of the beast and what a beast it was. It was smart enough to attempt to attack them first, possible it knew of what fate fell upon it’s underlings or it was able to detect that Kite was a demon slayer and he was an immediate threat? Or perhaps it could sense the impending death that was radiating off of Marcy, either way it attacked and with a wave of cold energy that caused Kite to protect Marcy by tackling her to the ground and using his body as a shield to protect her from the arctic blast. However the cold had just barely touched him when something interesting had happened, leather like wings wrapped around him acting like a shield against the cold aura. Kite’s eyes were not fixed onto Marcy’s and nothing else. Both of their red eyes remained locked onto each other's, his attention was given to her completely given to her eyes due to a mix of confusion and surprise. He would feel as she rolled them both over, still encased in her wings as she positioned him on his back with her laying on top of his chest, but Kite dared not look away, he didn’t want to stop. Next thing he would watch her do is look at the demon bug and hiss before she would release them both from her wings and take flight to combat the bug. It was only then Kite was able to see the full extent of her transformation, the horns protruding from her head, her fingers now claws, a tail now extended from her back and her clothes were no longer the same as before, now it seemed her body was encased in some sort of material that acted as natural armor covering her chest and hips. Kite wasn’t scared of this form or in awe for that matter, no he instead smirked as he watched Marcy inhale for her next attack, ”I am so going to call her out now for her weak comments earlier.“ he would saw before sitting up only to let himself lay back and back rolling over his shoulder and making it to his feet just as Marcy would let loose a breath of some sort of energy that did damage to the bug. His gaze would meet hers before she turned her attention to the bug and drew in her hands to her stomach and gathered her magic. Not wanting to be left out any longer Kite finally focusing on the bug, with his natural aura now flowing from his body he held out his hands in front of him and gathered a small ball of flames and held it there for a moment, letting as much of his demon slaying flames gather into the ball before finally lifting his arms above his head, opening his arms to let the small sphere expand into a large ball of flames above his head. It wouldn’t look like a fireball, there would be no flames sprouting from it, Kite had condensed so much of his flames into the sphere it looked more like an orb of white light.”Flame Demon’s Inferno Destroyer“ he would say before hurling the ball of fire at the bug demon just as Marcy let loose her attack. His ball of fire would hit right after Marcy’s beam hit the bug, causing an explosion. It would scream in pain, from the attacks and would respond by unleashed green liquid from it’s body spraying it all around him, Kite would see this and use his fire rocket to create some distance before he would feel his cheeks puff out before letting loose his plume of flames from his lips ”Flame Demon’s Rage!“the stream of flames would hit the demon causing flames to surround it completely.  Sensing that this bug was tougher than he thought he jumped way back into the cave and pull his arm back behind him and he would let the flames gather just around his hand, it was time to charge his new attack.

Staying still for the moment Kite would let flames swirl around his fist like a whirlpool, torrents of flames could be seen swirling around his hand several feet in diameter and it all swirled into his closed fist which was started to turn red from the heat. This was his biggest attack to date but the only drawback was that he had to gather enough flames and condense it into his hand to unleash the full might of this attack. Soon enough the swirling flames would start to shrink as more and more of his flames poured into his hand, he could feel a slight increase of heat in his hand, nothing he couldn’t handle but it was something he noticed and he wasn’t the only one, once the attack’s charge hit a certain cap the Bariael would notice the sudden change in heat, and the pressing threat that Kite’s right hand was becoming as time would pass, it would let loose a screech at Kite’s direction and would charge as fast as it’s maggot like legs would allow it to move. It wasn’t fast by any means, if they were to race Kite’s speed would surpass the bugs without a doubt but the problem was, while slow the bug was large therefore it could cover more space per stride and it would close the distance between them quickly. Kite would dive out of the way, the swirl of flames moving with him, as if it were an extension of his hand. Kite would use his free hand to plant onto the ground before he would do a one handed handstand then transitioned into a back handspring landing on his feet looking at the demon now closer than before. ”Phew, that was close. If I didn’t see ya coming I would have been in trouble.“

Kite would shoot Marcy a look as he started to run away from the big bad bug, ”Hey, can you distract the bug with your fancy new form? I’m sure it hasn’t ever seen such a beautiful transformation up close and  need some time...I can finish it with this attack without a doubt but I need to charge it up?“ He would ask her hoping that she wouldn’t mind the way he worded his request, for some reason he had to throw a flirty like comment into his request. Matter of fact he wanted to flirt a bit more with Marcy but that couldn’t be his focus at the moment and he wouldn’t allow it to happen. He wasn’t kidding when he said he could finish the bug. If he got this attack of his fully charged he could decimate the bug entirely. He would look over his shoulder as Marcy flew about the bug doing her thing in attempt to take it’s full attention but such a feat would prove to be more difficult than how Kite mentioned. Had this been a demon more similar to Asmodeous she could easily distract him with just her appearance but this nasty bug didn’t seem to have any trace of thought in it’s body. Unfortunately not all demons were as intelligent as the Demon king, actually not even that, he met evil demons that he could actually have conversations with, possessing some sentient thought but this beast, it was more instinctive like a wild animal than any demon he has dealt with so far. That was also why he felt so blessed at the moment, had this demon been any bit as smart as the other demon they would have figured out a more effective way to deal with Kite’s charge time whereas this beast just knows it has to stop him but doesn't have the ability to formulate a plan for it.

Kite would not stop running until he heard the sound of some sort of scream from the bug, not one of pain but like it was calling out to someone or something. Out from the ground came two bugs with looks exactly like Bariael but much smaller and less powerful than the big guy, matter of fact it was less powerful than the bugs they had faced earlier, ”Why would it summon bugs weaker than it’s thralled?“ he would ask himself trying to figure out what it might be doing but regardless of what it’s goals were it wasn’t going to fly with Kite there. Kite would change direction and run towards one of the bugs and would slam his boot into the side of one, soccer kicking it into it’s sibling which would be followed by Kite jumping up in the air and landing on them both squishing them with his body weight. Green colored liquid, similar to the toxic liquid that Bariael had sprayed everywhere, was now covering the ground and the bottom of Kite’s pants, ”That’s gross, not only are you as ugly as the big guy you smell as bad.“ he would state trailing off in order to front roll out of the way of a large claw slamming into the ground where he was once standing, ”Sorry ugly but can’t let anymore of you running around, one of you ugly S O B’s is enough for this world.“ he would say as making a run for it again trying to create as much distance from the beast as he could. The beast would then make it’s attempt at Kite once again once it freed its arm that was stuck in the ground and would chase Kite this time with much more ferocity in it’s attempts. Kite’s hand’s had lost it’s simple red glow and was so bright in color it couldn’t be considered red any longer, it was pink and Kite could feel the intense heat that was burning in his hand now, he wanted to release it now but it wasn’t the time, it wasn’t strong enough.

Kite couldn’t keep running away, the more he ran the more it was hard for Marcy to distract the beast, but at this rate the beast’s attention wouldn’t shift from Kite, the attack he had been charging what seemed like for ages was too dangerous to ignore. Kite would stop in his tracks skidding to a stop and would charge at the demonic bug who was still slowly giving chase, it would screech and lower it’s head looking to take a bite out of the demon slayer. Kite would hold out his free hand and draw forth Shamash from the gates that he had kept open and would hurl it like a spear with a low side arm throw at one of the smaller back legs of Bariael causing it to stumble from the pain and loss of balance. The sword would crash into the ground tip first and would have it’s handle in the air for Kite to grab as he ran past the demon. Kite would stop only to grab the sword and pull it from the ground holding it in front of him pointing at the bug struggling to get back up on it’s remaining legs and would speak, ”You want my attention so bad? Well now you have it.” the bug would shreek once again once it was on it’s feet and would take even slower steps towards the demon slayer who was standing still with the sword leaning on his shoulder. ”Come on ugly, let’s see what ya got now.“ Kite would say just before the bug would lift it’s mantis like leg and would try to pierce Kite’s body like a spear but the demon slayer would swing his massive and heavy sword swatting it out of the way cutting it in the process. Kite would then rotate the sword in his hand and jab it into the beast, staking him to the ground and as much as the bug tried to move the sword wasn’t budging. ”Marcy I could use a lift.“ he would hold his free hand up for Marcy to take a hold of it and lift him into the air. Kite would be in the air when he was released from Marcy’s grip and would free fall directly on top of the bug but now there were no more flames around his hand, all that was left was his white hot colored hand and right as he was within punching range Kite would throw his fist forward ”Flame Demon’s Immolation Fist!“ he would shout just as his punch would make contact forcing a large explosion to erupt from his hand powerful enough to shake the entirety of the cave, the demon would scream in pain as the the flames and the force of the explosion would annihilate the demon entirely not even leaving ash in it’s wake. Kite would finally land on the ground with his hand completely burned due to the intensity of the heat, it was so bad he couldn’t move his hand. He could stand but he didn’t move. He would just look up at Marcy with a smirk holding his injured hand with his healthy one and would just say ”So miss, how care to tell me how power like this makes you weak?“

As the demon was annihilated by Kite's Immolation Fist, the woman floated back to the ground and landed delicately on her feet. The wings of her succubus form had folded inward, then a light coursed over them and they shifted back into the shape of the tattoo. When they formed into the tribalistic version of what they had been realistically, the spinal cord of the tattoo appeared next. Along with the change of wings, the woman's armored "outfit" removed itself from her body and left her in the nude. Her tail was the last to make its disappearance, neither shrinking or otherwise reverting back, but simply disintegrating into nothing. Marceline collapsed to a seated position, covering her breasts with her arms and otherwise, simply sitting there in silence. A shiver ran down her spine as the heat of the room disappeared the moment everything from the blast had cooled down.

Moving one arm away from her bosom, the undead woman sprouted ash from the air and formed her familiar clothing. First was the shirt in which she commonly wore; a leather-made crop top that buttoned in the front like a vest. This was what she put on, once it was on, she fixated in forming the booty shorts that typically drew attraction to her. She slipped those on next, and after that, she formed the famous red cloak that she was most regularly known for wearing. Clipping this on around her, she finished off her outfit with the combat boots that always covered her feet, no matter what. Once she was fully clothed again, Marceline heard Kite falling out to her and she turned to face the demon slayer. The moment she looked him in the eye, her gaze fell down to the burned hand that he had used to charge his spell.

"You hurt yourself," she stated solemnly, "why would you charge such a spell if you knew you were going to be injured?" She walked over to him and grabbed his injured hand from him, weaving tightly knitted ash around the burn mark. "Take this as payment in gratitude for helping me out with this job; I know most dark and legal mages don't get along. However, I really do appreciate that you could set aside that old time feud and work with me on this job." Marceline would hug Kite at this point, but quickly pull away, figuring neither of them were really the touchy-feeling kind of people. "I'll make sure that they send your fair share of the payment to your guild or under your name, whichever it may be." Normally, she wasn't this kind to people, especially to those who happened to be from the legal guilds, such as Kite was.

Not wanting to leave him there to find his own way out, the dark mage would grab hold of his uninjured hand and shift them both to ash. The cloud weaved its way upward, back through the hole in the ground and to the upper levels of the cavern. It flew past the demonic bugs that had been slaughtered and even past ones that were still alive and milling about their day. Eventually, the cloud of ash came upon the entrance of the cave and exited it into the bright light of the day. Now at their destination, the ashen cloud swirled together and dispersed to reveal the demon slayer and demon. Marceline squeezed Kite's hand in thanks again before letting go and deciding to head on her way back to the guild. "Oh, and Kite?" Marcy called over her shoulder, stopping in her tracks to momentarily look back at the Sabertooth mage.

When Kite had looked at her, she gave him a smile again before continuing, "feel free to call on me whenever you need me." It was an offer that she was not willing to give to most, but with how helpful Kite had been to her today, she'd give it to him. She waved goodbye to him for a final time, then her form crumbled into nothingness and floated away as ash. While today had been a rather busy day and one of the most difficult yet, she appreciated having Kite around. He was definitely an interesting human for he most part and she found that his presence was rather appealing to be around. Marcy didn't quite understand that feeling in her gut still, but perhaps that would be answered at a later date. For now, she had to head back to Savage Skull headquarters and inform the guild master of her job completion.
