    Water and Fire vs. The Artist






    Uncovering the Threat:

    Mysteriously throughout town, buildings were being vandalized by a Mage. He’d cover his artwork all across Clover Town while everyone were fast asleep and for some reason no one could catch him. At first the townspeople praised the artist, but then suddenly things got out of hand. People would find random bags of money lying around and would be overjoyed at their discovery.

    That was also when things looked grim. When they went home with the bills, it would randomly explode, causing mayhem. Once the citizens had enough, they sought out the aid of a Mage.

    When Slade Wallins walked into the Blue Pegasus Guild Hall, he noticed a job poster for someone who was vandalizing the town. At first, he didn’t seem interested. His mind, however, changed once he noticed that explosions were involved.

    “That sounds like a fun mission,” he muttered and then looked around, “But should I do it alone? Journeys alone are always boring.”

    Rainn stood up from his table and returned his tray. The guild hall had some pretty awesome food. It was much much better than the stuff that was served at the bar, and over the last few days he had come to truly appreciate it. As he made his way back to gather his things, he noticed his friend, Slade, looking out through the guild.

    The dragon slayer stood before the job board. It looked like he wanted to search the room for a partner for whatever adventure had pulled his attention. Rainn was on Slade’s Guild team, so who better to join him? Zhi was too busy mackin on chicks far out of his league, and the other members, well Rainn didn’t exactly know much about them. He shook his head and started toward the board.

    Just as he was in the middle of his search, a familiar voice echoed into Slade’s ears. It was Rainn’s, someone the Dragon Slayer knew. Should he ask his Guild Mate to come along or should he find someone else? As much as he didn’t want to, he figured he might as well do it anyways.

    “Oh hey,” he muttered out, “It’s you. I’m about to go on a mission, you want to come?”

    The Mage then waited for his Guild Mate’s response. Suddenly in the middle of his wait, people outside started to scream. As quickly as he could, Slade raced out to see what was going on. Unfortunately for him, the commotion came to an end after he reached the outside world.

    Am I going crazy?

    “Why not, sounds much more fun than standing around here.” Rainn replied. In the moment his words left his mouth, his conversation partner had left as well. Loud screams resonated throughout the guild hall from outside. Tha hell is goin on?

    He raced off behind his teammate. Grasping the two wooden dolls hidden within his pockets, the mage was more than ready to fight. “What’s goin on?” Rainn inquired in a rush of adrenaline filled confusion. He couldn’t quite grasp what the problem was. Why were these people yelling and screaming?

    In little to no time at all, Slade spotted someone. The person that he saw appeared to be a man who was running with a purse. He also saw a woman lying on the ground and that’s when he figured everything out. Whoever robbed that poor lady assaulted her and tried to get away with it.

    “You’re in my turf,” he said, “I won’t allow someone like you to filth up my town!”

    The Dragon Slayer chased after the man, but sadly ran into a small blunder. He collided with a brick wall and when he took a closer look, he figured out that it was all an illusion. Apparently someone painted a crime scene onto the wall and… it looked as if it had actually happened.

    “What the hell is going on?!” he cried out and then heard a laughter from afar.

    Rainn tossed the two Kokeshi dolls in the air. They spun about and landed within his palms with the heads dropped to the side. Water began to flow forth as he swung his hands in an X pattern. Two waves swiftly molded into orbs and began to spin around his torso. Battle was all but certain, and Rainn was more than ready for it.

    He jumped forward and chased after Slade once more. “Holy shit, is that painting moving?” His eyes swayed back and forth fighting to keep up with the illusion. Staggering a bit, he caught his wit and ordered his orbs to slam into the wall. The alcohol infused attack stopped the swaying colors. The painting began to melt away. All the colors sliding off the building and onto the street. “Such a versatile thing alcohol is.” The mage said with a smug smile, “You go after him, I’ll finish cleaning this.”

    The Dragon Slayer wished that he allowed his Guild Mate to clean up the graffiti before he looked like a fool. Instead he decided to do exactly what Rainn did to make up for his mistakes. He went after the one responsible for the artwork and his only lead appeared to be in the form of laughing. Slade chased the sound until he noticed a crowd of people.

    At first he wondered if they were the real thing or not, but later realized they were actually speaking. He then walked over towards them to see what was going on. First the Mage spotted a bag that was filled with cash, and then he noticed a strange symbol on the back.

    “Wait… I’ve seen that before…” he muttered out and then remembered he’d seen the same mark on the mysterious paintings.

    He then quickly tossed the bag into the air. If his memory was correct, the bag would explode. It was hard for him to forget, but he suddenly remembered seeing that on the job’s poster. Just as the Dragon Slayer called it, the bag exploded with burning cash falling from the sky.

    Rainn looked over from the now clean wall and searched for his teammate, but could only see a cloud of smoke. An explosion of some kind sounded off from Slade’s path. The mage had heard that this artist thug had used fake bags of money to injure people, but he didn’t believe it to be anywhere near true. Guess some parts of the rumor mill are quite factual. He shook his head and started off to follow his comrade.

    He continued to keep the Kokeshis at hand. There was no telling if he was going to have to throw down with an enemy, or well a bag of cash. That’s exactly what he came across sitting on the edge of a corner. It was rigged to blow with some sort, so he doused it with water from the right doll. “That was rather anti climatic…” He spoke out over the small puff of smoke.

    Things looked safe, or at least the Dragon Slayer figured they were. The villainous laughter that he heard said otherwise. He knew that the artist was in the middle of more mayhem. That’s when Slade decided to continue chasing after the sound. In his search he ran into not one, but five painted walls that looked as if they were alleyways.

    “Dang it fight like a man,” he shouted off the top of his lungs, then noticed a man standing above his head and on top of a building.

    “If you’re here,” he said, “Then who’s protecting the good people of Clover from my bombs?”

    Those words angered the Mage; he couldn’t believe what he heard. That’s when he decided that he had to make a choice, go after the bombs or defeat the villain? He chose to go with the former and raced off towards the town. He hoped that he wasn’t too late.

    "No dude I've got this, you get him!" Rainn yelled out as he caught sight of his teammate. He turned and headed back into town. There were a plethora of illusionist paintings and bags of money in the area. It was rather sickening to think that this man was so talented yet completely insane.

    "Get out of here!" The mage warned as he made it to the center of the town. As people started to scramble, he slammed his two dolls on the ground. "Kokeshi's Wail". His soft words dropped and the two dolls began to summon wave after wave of purified water. A torrential downpour began to deluge the area clearing the explosive bags and halting the illusions.

    "No dude I've got this, you get him!”

    Those words alone were all that it took to get Slade fired up. He really wanted to give the artist what he had coming, but he also wanted to save the town as well. Thankfully he wasn’t alone and didn’t have to choose both options. That’s when he realized he could really count on his rival in times like those.

    “Well you heard the man,” the Dragon Slayer said as he coated his fingertips in flames, “When I get done with you, you’ll be nothing but ash.”

    At first the artist was curious at what the Blue Pegasus Mage would do, and then cried out in pain as five fiery bullets sailed through the air and towards him. It was to be expected that he’d be attacked with it, but he just wanted to see what come of a spell it was. The villain then decided to move while Slade unleashed more rounds.

    “Would you freaking hold still for five minutes,” the Dragon Slayer said as some of his attacks missed his target.

    He then realized the artist wouldn’t do as he said and chased after him. He soon found out that he’d fallen right into his opponent’s trap. There was a brick wall in front of him that he didn’t notice at first. It made Slade very angry as more scratches covered his body.

    Rainn inhaled deeply and held it with all his might. The spouts of water subsided once the area was consumed by the flood. The mage just held still and continued channeling his energy despite being completely underwater. He needed to hold onto this spell for a few more moments. It was one of the downfalls to such a spell, and it happened to be his strongest one.

    "Release" His word burst out of his mouth with the release of his breath. Bubbles shot forward and up to the surface. The two dolls began to reclaim the water around the area as Rainn just dropped to the ground. He had used a vast majority of his power to uphold the spell. Everything was now completely in Slade's hands...

    While the Dragon Slayer was frustrated, the artist continued to laugh at the Mage’s misfortunate. Every time he’d hear the villainous man snicker, Slade counted how many times he would punch the fiend into submission. Just as he ran around the wall, another greeted his face. It made him really made to know that he was being beaten by traps.

    Wait I have an idea…

    “Have you given up yet? You can’t defeat me you know,” the artist said from behind the wall.

    Unfortunately for him, it only made the Dragon Slayer angrier. First his hands were surrounded by flames and then he swiped the wall numerous times with his claws. The fiend heard the scratches and was confused as to what was going on. Thankfully the artist didn’t have to wait long.

    “And now your turn!” Slade yelled as he busted through the wall with a trail of fire falling off his arms.

    Not once, but around fifteen times the Mage attacked the fiend. He didn’t want to go overboard, but honestly didn’t know when he’d get another shot. After he was finished he noticed that the artist lost consciousness.

    “Next time you want to harm innocent lives,” he said as he went to regroup with his Guild Mate, “I’d suggest not picking MY town.”
