    The Job:

Now this was a trip down memory lane for Eli. It had been such a long time since he had done a job like this. Ever since he had joined Sabertooth, he had learned two things; people hire mages for incredibly frivolous jobs, and Vulcan's were a more common issue than he ever thought about before. Seriously, every other job seemed to deal with them. He was growing really tired of it too, but now he was back in familiar waters. Living on the road with Emilia, this was usually more their forte. Cracking skulls and taking names, so to speak. Grunt work like this wasn't exactly challenging or difficult, but it was fun. Despite everything Emilia would claim, Eli actually enjoyed a good brawl, he just didn't tend to have them nearly as often as her. It felt good every now and then to just smash stuff. It was a simplistic, base pleasure.

Leaning against the entryway to the restaurant, Eli was awaiting his partner in crime to join him. He had, as usual during their work, been the one to approach the client and handle arranging the job. After all, he was the people pleaser amongst the pair. The man seemed nice enough, if not amazing at his job. To be honest, Eli could care less about what happened to his work, just that he was getting paid real. In reality, he was no better than the people he was here to stop. There had even been a few times in the past where he was doing "protection" work for people while in a town. This time the coin had just landed on the opposite side. That was life though, there were many times you could find yourself staring at what you once did from the opposite side. He couldn't help but wonder how many people they'd actually send after the guy; normally before a job like this he'd scope out whatever group was the issue and get some information on what he'd been dealing with, but there wasn't really enough time for that this time. So it'd be a pleasant surprise. Whistling a soft tune, he waited for his partner in crime to show up.

Vulcans, vulcans everywhere. Until she had begun taking on missions from the job board in the guildhall, Emilia hadn't realized there were that many vulcans in Fiore. Perhaps there could be a nice little purge sometime. Stupid pests. Kill them, or at the very least scare them far off into the wilderness so she wouldn't have to be hired to deal with them again. Yeah, they were fun every once in a while, but their stupidity made them relatively easy opponents. They didn't really know how to fight. They just tried to smash things haphazardly without even trying to come up with the best way to do so. And usually left themselves open to being to being beaten quite easily. At this point, all they would really be good for is testing new spells on.

Now they were back to the really fun stuff, though. Good old humans. Emilia always loved fighting other people, especially if they were able to meet or exceed her fighting abilities and savvy. This would be the first real mission with her new spells, and she sure as hell was eager to use them. She knew the type of thugs they would be facing all to well. She and Eli had been the same at times. It was good fun. Now though, she would probably never be doing that line of work again. Well at least not in Sabertooth. It was too bad really, because often times it was the thugs that paid more. Then again, most illegal activities paid more. Perhaps they should have joined a dark guild... nah, it was harder to get away with things when you had a tattoo saying you were basically aligned with a criminal organization, while having a Sabertooth tattoo would make you seem a bit less of a suspect in some cases.

Emilia now approached the entrance to the restaurant from the street. While Eli had been settling thing with the client, she did what she was best at. Looking for trouble. She had managed to find a few of the thugs on their way to the restaurant and beaten them there. She walked up to Eli, grinning. "I spotted a few of them on their way here. They didn't seem too tough. We'll be able to take 'em alright." Coming from Emilia, Eli could probably expect that to be accurate, since she knew both of their limits well, and wasn't half bad at figuring out how well other people could fight. "I don't think many of them use magic, so we'll probably have an edge over them." She cracked her neck and took out Trauma, ready to bash some faces in. "You ready for some fun?"

Watching Emilia walk towards the restaurant, he knew this meant it was only a matter of time before the fight started. Emilia usually liked to case out the area before a job, while he handled the people work. It was just a more efficient use of time really. He usually preferred to do the scouting work; it was more his forte. The information side was usually his, while Emilia handled the physical side. Still, it was more efficient that way, and he couldn't really argue with it. "I never thought they'd be a challenge in the first place." Pushing himself off the doorway, he moved across from Emilia, looking around the area as he did. "After all, if they really were anything at all they wouldn't spend their time shaking down small business for their cash. Even when we did work like this it was much bigger stuff."

He had a feeling that someone would come by soon. Chances were likely they'd send someone ahead to to scout it all out, and give the owner one more chance to pay up. So long as Eli and Emilia dealt with him properly, they could probably prevent the gang from coming at them in one big rush. Take out the scout, then they send a few to find out what happened to him, then a few more to find out what happened to the first group. It'd be much easier to handle than one huge mass.

He expected they'd be around sooner rather than later, and almost as if on queue, Eli spotted a man across the street. Dressed in ragged, rough clothing, he was staring intently at both the restaurant as well as Eli and Emilia. It seemed fairly obvious they were here for a reason; Emilia walking around in her armor was hardly subtle. "Alright, the trial begins. I'll start it off, so I expect you to finish." Moving towards the man, Eli gave him a clearly fake smile. "You there. Do you mind telling me why you've been sizing up my friend and I for the past little while?" The man, clearly not expecting Eli to actually talk to him, looked rattled for a second, before staring Eli down. "N-No reason man. Wh-What are you trying to say?" Eli continued to walk towards the man, keeping his smile frozen. "Really, so you're going to tell me you're not here to try and get inside the restaurant we're blocking?" He made sure to keep the man's attention completely on him, giving Emilia the chance to act. "What if I am? Who are you to say anything about it?"

Emilia nodded and chuckled a bit thinking back to their days before Sabertooth. To be honest, she was more fond of the work they did back then opposed to what they did now. They had to worry less about laws and not killing. While Eli generally disliked killing, Emilia didn't have many qualms about it, depending on the situation. Mostly with thugs and mercs. They knew their line of work was dangerous and could get them killed, and accepted the risks. She wouldn't kill them if they were down and out, but if they died on their feet, it was no skin off her back. Now in the guild, though, they were a bit more limited on what they could do, and Emilia disliked it, but the money they were making was a good tradeoff. She knew Eli wanted to leave, and would be okay with it after they had made some money. She wasn't incredibly fond of the guild life either, too soft for her, but the work paid well.

Her thoughts were interrupted as the first thug showed up. Decently built, carrying a weapon, but wore only leather armor. Standard thug really. She smiled as Eli approached him, though hers, unlike his wasn't fake, but it wasn't for the thug, it was for what she and Eli were going to do to the thug, and his buddies when they showed up later. It was also for the look on the poor sap's face as Eli confronted him. Emi made her way around behind the thug, pressing the button on Trauma to let out its cable. She held the ball in her shield hand, and with her main hand, gripped the end of the handle with the cable coming out of it.

"What if I am? Who are you to say anything about it?"

Emilia chuckled, behind the man, causing him to whirl around to face her, his eyes wide with surprise. She grinned at him. "We're the new bouncers." With that, the handle of Trauma glowed a soft blue for a split second as she empowered it with Power Play, then swung like a night stick, catching the man in the jaw. With the normal force of her swing combined with the increased force of the spell, it was easily enough to knock the man out cold, his body falling like a sack of bricks onto the ground with a satisfying thump. Emilia chuckled. "Poor guy didn't know what hit him." She said, looking at the body. "So, should we clean up between them so they don't know where their buddy went, or leave 'em all lying out here as a warning?" It would probably be best to do something to secure this one, that way they wouldn't have to deal with him waking up and causing trouble while they fought the others. They would also have a bit of time between him and his buddies arriving, since he was basically a scout sent to give the owner a last chance, or at least that's what he seemed to be. If he was, his buddies would give him a few minutes to come back before they came looking for him.

Eli trusted Emilia to take the man out quick, and she delivered nicely on that. This job should be a cakewalk with the messenger down. Now all they had to do was control the influx of thugs and it should be in the bag. "I'd hide him. They see him and run back to say we took him out, then we need to deal with every member on us at once. We hide him and they try to scout it out, and we can take them out piece by piece. It'd be a lot easier for us." Reaching into his bag, he pulled out three pieces of blank cloth. He always carried extra on him for circles.

Kneeling down beside the man, he began to bind his hands. The main question was where to hide him. They didn't know where the rest of the members would come from, and if they found him first it'd be annoying. He really wanted to avoid having to deal with more than a few of them at once. "I think we should throw him in an alleyway, maybe cover him in garbage if we can find some. I don't want him getting out easier and I don't want them finding him just as much." He now moved onto the man's fee, starting to bind them at the ankles. "Did you get a look at the menu inside? The owner said he was giving us a free meal for the work, and honestly I'm starting to think it was more of a threat than a gift." He finally, he started to bind the mouth, ensuring he couldn't call for help if he woke up. "Seriously, it all looked generic and boring. No wonder he doesn't have money to pay protection."

Finished with his work, Eli stood up and dusted off his hands. Scanning the area, he tried to find somewhere easy to hide the man. He also had to make sure no one saw them; it'd be fun to explain why they were hiding an unconscious, bound man. Spying a small alleyway down the street, he pointed it out to Emilia. "Let's go toss him back there, hopefully they won't find him down there." Looking around again, he felt fairly sure some more people would show up any second. "I'll stay here and keep an eye out in case any more show up while you go toss him the alleyway. Try and throw some garbage on him to hide him if you can." Eli started to walk back towards the restaurant, leaning against the doorway and trying to decide what on the menu sounded edible as he watched for anyone else suspicious.

"Why do I have to be the one to move him? Can't you just use your teleport crap?" Emilia complained jokingly. She honestly didn't mind hiding the thug, but she had to give Eli crap. That was her job as his big sister, after all. Well that and make sure no one hurt him except for herself. She chuckled at the restaurant's mention of food. "Who knows, it might be generic food, but that doesn't mean it can't be good." She shrugged. "If you don't want your meal, I'll take it. Food is food. I ain't picky like you." Really, Emilia could eat just about anything, the only things she would really refuse to have were most non-beer alcoholic beverages. When it came to food, though, you could give her cooked rat's asshole and she'd think it made a hell of a fondu.

Seeing that Eli had finished tying the man up, she put trauma on her belt and slung her shield over her back. "Alright, give me a few minutes while I take out the trash." She took hold of the man and picked him up, grunting as she did so. "Damn, you'd think this guy at here six times a day or something." She slung him over his shoulder and walked off to the alleyway. Emi found a good spot between two trash heaps to hide him. From between the two, he shouldn't be able to be spotted from either end of the alley. Still, she piled a bit of garbage on top of him to be sure. Finding a particularly ripe piece of old food, she slapped it onto his chest, giving him something pleasant to wake up to.

As Emilia was at work hiding the thug, two of his buddies showed up. One whispered to the other, "Who is that guy? You think ol' Bill hired help?" The other shrugged and walked up to Eli "Hey, could you help us out? We're looking for a friend of ours. Kind of a shorter guy, a bit wide around the waste. We're pretty sure he told us to meet here, told us it was a pretty good place to eat. You seen 'im anywhere?"

It was at this time that Emilia came out of the alley. She checked her work, making sure the initial messenger wasn't visible. She smiled when she was unable to see him, then turned to walk back to Eli and the restaurant to see the thugs. She grinned and walked as quietly as she could towards them, winking at Eli if he noticed her. She was behind them, so they hadn't yet noticed her.

Emilia really talked it up to sound a lot worse than it was. Eli wasn't exactly picky, per se. He just had standards, unlike Emilia. Sometime he found himself wondering if she was more garbage can than human. Well, at least she was a useful one. Watching her move the man into the back alley, he was mildly shocked when two more members already showed up. Walking around in broad daylight with a baseball bat and sword, dressed in all black, rugged clothes, and trying to act casual? Seriously, not their smartest move.

He Emilia would be back soon. The beast of burden that she was, she wasn't that slow. So he just had to stall a few minutes for her. He gave them a confused look, scratching the side of his head. "A short fat guy? I think I may have seen him... Did he have a large mustache and was dressed like a sailor?" Of course, Eli hadn't seen that person at all, but he was simply trying to buy time. The larger of the two sighed annoyedly, shaking his head and burying it in his palm. "No No, he didn't have a mustache and he was dressed like us. He probably came by here a few minutes ago, talked to the owner. Is he inside?" Eli placed a hand on his chin, thinking. He watched Emilia start to walk up as he let out a hum. No more real reason to buy time now. He reached into his deckbox, pulling out his deck of cards. "I don't recall seeing him. But hey, while you're here, can you give me a quick hand?"

He began to rapidly shuffle the deck before the pair, the entire time giving them an eager smile. "See, I'm a travelling entertainer, and I recently just came up with a new trick. If you could give me a few seconds of your time to help it'd be much appreciated. I call it, 'Lightning Strikes.'" As he said that he flipped the top card of the deck into the air above them, an orange glow covering the card before a sudden crack was heard. Eli's body tensed as he anticipated the blow; the crack of his magic was loud, but not deafening like actual lightning, nor would it really affect him. Fulmen was fairly precise so outside of the noise he and Emilia would be fine at the distance they were. The ones under it however would be a much different story. A series of three consecutive lightning bolts rained down on the two men, the Fulmen powered up by Eli.

Post by Emilia Crohil 5th August 2014, 7:31 pm

The two thugs were, of course, quite surprised to find a rather large amount of electricity flowing through their bodies. Surprise was a common response for such a thing, really. Another common surprise was also a scream of pain, which both of Eli's enemies let out, and quite loud ones at that. A third reaction of the body to electric shocks came from the workings of its musculatory system. Due to the fact that muscles contracted when administered an electric shock, the legs of the two thugs buckled with the current delivered by Eli's spell, causing them to drop to the ground. The stronger of the two, the mercenary mage was faster to start clambering back to his feet, swearing at Eli and making threats about how he'd pay for what he'd done. Something about ripping off his stupid metal arm and beating him over the head with it. The bodyguard was still left twitching on the ground for a short time longer.

Seeing Eli's surprise attack bring the thugs off their feet, Emilia moved quickly. One of her dashes would not be useful here, since it was hard to hit a target that was on the ground with them. One of the two seemed a bit tougher than the other, and was rising to his feet, already on his knees. She wouldn't have any of that. Continuing in stride, she swung Trauma downwards, casting Projection as she did so, sending a small blue ball of energy flying at the enemy mercenary mage who was still on his hands and knees getting up, making him an easy target. The ball would likely hit him, causing him to take the impact of her mace smashing into his back, hopefully driving him off of his hands and knees and force him flat onto the ground in pain. If that didn't though, what came next certainly would. Emilia swung Trauma again, releasing some cable to bring it hard down onto the merc. The flail glowed a soft blue as she charged it again with Power Play to slam him even harder. This little combination would be sure to take him out. Not much could withstand a full downward blow from Trauma straight to the back, especially when it was empowered by a spell and they had already taken one slightly softer one just before. Ribs would be cracked, and he would certainly be down for the count, leaving the bodyguard to finish off, who, by now had begun to clamber back to his feet. She would have used a Force Pulse as well, but didn't want to catch Eli in it.

Job; Scare Away Those Thugs! [Eli, Emilia - Team] Empty Re: Job; Scare Away Those Thugs! [Eli, Emilia - Team]

Post by Arsene Mayura 10th August 2014, 9:47 am

There was a certain satisfaction in watching someone crumple up like cooked bacon before you. Hell, they almost smelled like it too. And with their appearance looking like human pigs, Eli was just finding more and more reasons to justify his analysis. In fact, he was unable to stifle a small giggle at first, turning into a full laugh for himself. He was completely carefree, despite having to deal with two very angry men staring him down. After all, they were nothing compared to some other people he'd dealt with before, and Emilia was sure to followup after him.

Just on queue, Emilia slammed the mercenary as he tried to unfold himself off the ground, taking him out with a series of swings from Trauma. Now rather than bacon, the men were like meat, being pounded in like a butcher. It was almost too much to watch honestly. The brutal cracking of ribs, the hollow sounds of his voice as the air is pushed out of him mid sentence. Emilia wasn't one to beat around the bush; she beat people instead. There was no way this guy wasn't down for the count, at least for now. Sad thing was he was probably a pretty good mage, just not much you can do against sudden attacks when not prepared. The man dropped down under Emilia's assault, not even a groan as he silently bonded with the pavement.

Now all that was left to do was cook the final ham. Turning to face the new standing man, Eli doubted he'd be much trouble. He didn't look nearly as threatening as the other guy, he had managed to get to his feet so they'd have to deal with him properly. Eli'd been too distracted with the pigs jokes to stop him. Maybe he was hungry after all. It shouldn't be too hard to keep the guy down though. He and Emilia were too close for Ignis or Gelus not to affect them, and he didn't want to waste another Fulmen and attract more attention, so a Terra seemed like the best option. Before the man could fully steady himself, Eli shoved at him shoulder first, knocking him slightly backwards. He followed up with a Terra card, thrown directly at the man's core. Suddenly transforming into a large rock, he was fairly certain the blow would take him down, if not they could deal with him when he was trapped under the rock.

Job; Scare Away Those Thugs! [Eli, Emilia - Team] Empty Re: Job; Scare Away Those Thugs! [Eli, Emilia - Team]

Emilia turned from the mercenary mage she had downed to the bodyguard Eli had pinned with his terra spell. Stepping over to him, she looked down at him for a moment. It would be a simple matter to just kill him. Stomp down on his throat to crush his wind pipe or stab him with Trauma's handle. Though she knew Eli and the guild would disapprove. Still, she kicked him hard in the jaw, knocking a few teeth out, then kicked him once more to ensure he was out cold. She looked at Eli. "Your turn to hide these ones." She snickered. "Oh man, I've got a great idea! Take some of your motus runes and toss 'em onto a roof, then use them to teleport the thugs onto one. And make sure it's not just one they can climb down from. Leave 'em screaming and crying for help up there! That'll teach 'em not to mess with us!" She broke into a hearty laughter. They would have to stick around for a bit to see their reactions. That was for sure. It would be a great thing to pull on these poor saps, and mostly harmless as well. It would hide their bodies nicely, too.

Her laughter slowly died down, becoming a light chuckle, then stopping. She exhaled, then chuckled again. "So tell me, what was it that you found so hilarious while I was beating up that one?" She gestured to the first thug she had taken down who lie on the ground, some blood leaking from around is face as he had smashed is nose against the ground when Emilia knocked him out. Whatever it was, she wanted to know, since it must have been pretty good for Eli to break out in laughter in the middle of a small brawl. He was lucky the second merc took so long to recover, otherwise he would have probably given Eli a good thrashing. Well, tried to anyway, maybe gotten in a few good hits before she smashed him as well. Knowing Eli though, it would probably be something stupid. Then she would have to punch him for being stupid. Then they could wait for the rest of the thugs to show up and hope he didn't get himself beaten up by laughing at them when he should be fighting.

Eli looked down at the two unconscious men. The idea to throw them on the roof wasn't a bad one, but he wasn't sure if he wanted to waste four motus seals on it. Still, it'd probably be the fastest way to move them, and he didn't exactly feel like moving the terra stone. He placed a card on each of them and began to walk around the street, looking for a decent building to throw the cards on. After all, it had to be somewhere people couldn't see the bodies, nor could they get down easily if spotted, as well as possible for him to easily get the motus seals onto. He doubted hiding the bodies would do much, by this point the members would probably come in guns blazing, but he didn't want anyone seeing them and contacting the rune knights. He just didn't want to deal with that right now, on top of his current work. "Yeah yeah, I got it. You act like I worked you to the bone; it's simply your part of the operation. What point is there in brawn that doesn't dot he manual labor? I'll do you a favor this time."

Spotting a nice, tall one with a decent enough ledge he set himself up to go. Pulling out two more cards, he made sure that there wasn't going to be any wind issues before tossing. It'd be fairly annoying to have to waste two cards because he misjudged the wind after all. Watching them nicely sore up and over the ledge beyond sight, he activated the seals and watched as the two bodies disappeared. Leaning back against the doorway of the restaurant, he turned to face Emilia. "Now, where were we?" He smiled. "Oh, that wasn't really anything, I just thought of a series of puns about what was happening, it'd be difficult to explain really." Grabbing lightly onto a strand of hair, Eli starred at it, seemingly deep in thought. "You think I should change my hairstyle? It'd getting kind of annoying to have to style something to make it look like you didn't."

Emilia chuckled as she watched Eli teleport the two men to the top of a building. They would be in for a nice surprise when they woke up. She called after him. "Oi! I ain't just the brawn. I handle tactics as well. Plus there's a lot of knowledge and thought that needs to be put into smashing people so they're unconscious but don't die. Seriously, not killing people with this thing is harder than killing them." She said, retracting the cable and swinging Trauma a bit. Eli could probably remember several instances in fights where Emilia had gone too far and crippled or even killed by accident. "Besides, it's less about doing the favor, more about getting them onto a roof. It saves time binding them for when they wake up."

After he came back and explained himself, she shook her head. "Eli, Eli, Eli. You know puns are the lowest form of humor." She chuckled. She didn't mind puns really, though she was terrible at coming up with them. When it came to non-practical things like humor or art, Emilia was a bit lacking in creativity. As Eli asked her about his hair, she frowned a bit, looking at his head. "Have you tried making it look like you didn't do anything by not actually doing anything?" She chuckled again, then thought some more. It was a bit ironic to her that he was the one who spend more time fussing over his appearance. Then again, it did sort of make sense what with his performances and all. "I don't know. You definitely should keep it at around that length. Short hair would look like crap on you. I'm probably the worst person to ask about that though."

She looked around a bit, then swung her arms and hopped impatiently. "I really hope more of those thugs show up soon, and in force. I want a goddamn challenge already. I'm bored of sneak attacks and cheap shots. When do you think they'll figure out that someone is taking down anyone who shows up here?" The small brawls they had been in so far had served to get Emilia warmed up, now she was ready for a real battle so she could stop having to discuss Eli's fashion dilemma, which she found almost impossible to care about. She looked at Eli again. "We should make up some Zenshin jokes while we wait."

Eli shrugged, stretching his hands into the air in front of himself. It was starting to get boring with all of the cheap shots and sneak attacks, but at the same time he doubted it would last any longer. The street had become of all people except them by now, and he felt fairly certain it'd be them getting attacked through stealth next. They were the only obvious targets at the time. "I kind of agree, I can't really put on a good show when the fights are so short. But, this is the fastest way to finish the job. It's not like we're really gonna get a great fight out of this anytime soon; they're street thugs, we'd be lucky if we found one or two of them who can hold up." His expectations were especially low for these opponents. He normally had at least some faith in enemies at first, albeit not much. They had been drastically lowered by how easy the past few fights had been.

"Zenshin jokes are lowest form of humor, not puns, my dear Emilia." Eli cared so little for them man he couldn't even bring himself to waste time making fun of him. After all, it was because of him that he was now a guild mage, and it wasn't exactly something Eli was proud of. But despite his protests, he couldn't like that having the guild work had made their income more stable, and less roaming had been good for the pair. It really was just simplified mercenary work. He'd never admit his slowly growing approval of it though, his pride wouldn't allow it. "Wasting time on that man is equivalent to watching paint dry."

He couldn't help but wonder Emilia's opinion on the matter, however. As close as the pair was, heart to heart discussions were the last thing they'd do together, and they usually just took the implicit opinion of the other on such matters. Still, Emilia wasn't against being guilded like he was, and he was wondering how it met her expectations. "Speaking of Zenshin though, what do you think about the whole guild thing Emi? You were the one who didn't mind it, so do you see yourself sticking around here for a while?" While Eli had no qualms leaving the guild at a moments notice, he was generally curious how well Emilia was taking the whole situation.

Emilia decided to reposition herself so her back was to a wall. There no one would be able to come up to her from behind and she could easily watch behind Eli for anything suspicious. "I guess we're just too smart for them. I wonder why they wanted this done by B-rank mages or higher. Seems a waste. Then again, I guess the owner wanted someone who could just totally stomp these guys so hard they wouldn't dare come back." She shrugged, then grinned at Eli. "I guess they are a bit to easy to come up with." She raised an eyebrow at him when he made his second comment. "You really hate that guy, don't you? Then again, I guess it would make sense. He was the only one to have caught you conning him and not had the memory bashed out of him."

Eli then asked her what she thought of being guilded, and she shrugged once more in response. "I don't mind it. I mean it's nice and all, but I can certainly do without it. I guess I just don't see guilds like you do. To me they're just a place to stay with a big bounty board. I can definitely see myself sticking around for a bit, but I'd be fine with leaving whenever, and probably will leave after a bit." She smiled. "I've got plans, 'ya see. Dad didn't give me Trauma just to help me climb to the top. He wants me to make something he couldn't: a guild behaves like a guild should. No ideal to follow, leaders to obey, or any of that crap like the others have. Just a place to stay, find work, and find people to work with, not a family. I think if you look at Sabertooth like I do and ignore the stupid idea that your guild is your family, you probably won't mind it so much. Besides, you've already got me for that." She finished off with a chuckle. Sure they weren't actually family, but they may as well be brother and sister with how long they've been together.

Emilia looked along the streets, searching for anyone who looked suspicious. She would let Eli know immediately when she saw anyone.
