    Riohorse Rank up exam [D ----> C]


    At the base of what was most likely the tallest cliff in the Phoenix Mountain region, Shuhei sat with his legs crossed near a fire over which he was frying some premium cuts of bacon, cut from the sides of the giant wild boars of Shadow Island.  A delicacy that can only be enjoyed with a side of eggs.  Which, for some reason Shuhei had not brought.  As a man of fine taste, Shuhei would require at least one egg but preferably two, to be able to enjoy such a fine delicacy brought to him all the way from Shadow Island.  Luckily, the song of a majestic wild Phoenix Hawk rang softly through the white wizards ears.  Even though the Phoenix Hawk, known for its ruby red plumes had one of the most terrifying squawks known to man, the Hawks were renown throughout Fiore for producing the most wonderfully tasting eggs which were highly sought after on the count of them being extremely difficult to acquire.  Phoenix Hawks could not survive in captivity so their eggs had to be snatched from the nest in the wild and this was of course that time of the year, when the Phoenix Hawks stayed close to their nests which were often very well hidden on the sides of mountainous cliffs, which ran either straight up, or on an outward slant.  It took a climber of great skill to be able to reach one of those nests, or at least a Slayer of the Dragon sort whom possessed the element of earth and green hair and was a girl from Blue Pegasus...

    Shuhei stared at Freya with a smile as he explained to her the details of her exam.  If Shuhei could not enjoy his breakfast of fine Shadow Island Bacon, then his mood would be ruined and she would ultimately fail her exam.  So she would have to conquer her fear of heights and scale the steep cliff side to reach the  Phoenix Hawks nest near the center of the cliff, snatch an egg and fend off the mother hawk (Without kill her, because that would be cruel.) Climb back down the cliff and return the egg to Shuhei intact, BEFORE his bacon finished cooking.  Luckily though Shadow Island Bacon was quite thick and the temperature in the Phoenix Mountains was quite cool, which would mean that near the egg it would be almost freezing... "Good luck!"  Shuhei said casually as if there were no danger, smiling and waving, anticipating a very fine breakfast.  (Which he most likely would not share afterwards.)

    Mission Parameters:
    #1: Retrieve the egg and return it to Shuhei without breaking it.
    #2: Do not harm the mother Hawk.
    #3: You may use any means necessary to scale the cliff and to get back down so long as the first two rules are not broken.  
    #4: Your limit (NOT MINIMUM) is one thousand words and 3 posts.  Go over that and Shuhei's bacon will have cooked and you fail.
    #5: I'm looking for creativity, not quantity in your posts.

    Freya came skidding past Shuhei as he tended to his fire; she managed to overshoot a little and went sliding past. She stopped and ran back to where he was sitting “GUILDMASTER!” she said her face lighting up. She was so excited she’d worked super hard doing job after job so she could get to her C-rank. “I’M READY!” she said pumping up a fist in the air and grinning excitedly at her guild master. “Wait what?!?!” she said turning her head slowly to face him “You want me to conquer my fear of heights and get that egg?” she said pointing up the mountain face “Hrmm…I guess this is what they meant about you testing us” she mumbled replacing her shocked look with one of excitement. “Don’t worry master, I worked so hard for this you’ll have that egg in no time!” she said spinning around and with a determined huff she started to scramble up the mountain face, pausing to look back at Shuhei and smile “By the way fried or scrambled?” she said with a cheeky grin.

    Freya cast a look behind her freezing up as she realized how high up she was, almost three quarters of the way up. She gulped and tried to push down a feeling of nausea as she bent over almost losing her breakfast “Urgh come on Freya, it’s just a silly mountain” she mumbled slowly starting up again towards the top of the mountain.   Ca-CAAAWWWW Freya heard an enraged screech from high in the sky.  She tilted here head up her eyes widening “Huuuuh?!?!?” she said in surprise as the hawk swooped forward, wrappings it’s talons around her shoulders, she scrambled around trying to cling to the mountain grabbing a vine and holding on for dear life…it didn’t work the bird lifted her up as it flew off carrying her with it. “Oh no, n..not this high mummy hawk please put me down!!!” she said poking at the feathered legs frantically looking down in fear. She tilted her head sideways looking out at the amazing view below her “I hate being away from the earth… but it’s actually not that bad” she said then realising she was still being flown away by an angry bird.

    Freya squirmed in the birds grasp, looking down and seeing the figure of her master sitting waiting for that egg “Right I gotta get that egg!”she said clenching her fist around the vine and frowning thoughtfully. The hawk look down at her giving her an evil eye as if realising she was talking about stealing the egg. She looked down at the vine in her hands “Perfect” she said slowly looping the vine around the birds head forming a makeshift bridle of sorts “Nice birdy..now I can get down safety” Freya tugged on the rope turning the bird towards the nest. She smiled triumphantly “Setting course for one delicious egg, for master Shuhei” the bird gave a sharp peck on Freya’s head “Oi do you mind” she grumbled waving a hand up which had flared up with a magic aura. Freya was careful not to harm the bird though. That would have bad consequences for them both.

    The bird seemed to be resisting and Freya pulled insistently on the vine. The hawk jerked sideways tossing Freya uncomfortably in the air “S..stop it just fly over there” she turned the bird flying steadily straight towards the nest, flying closer and closer. Freya suddenly shivered her teeth starting to chatter. “s.s..so c..cold” she chattered between her blue lips. At this rate she would be too cold to pick up the eggs. Regardless she stretched out an arm scooping up the egg feeling her muscles straining. The hawk screeched angrily flying closer to the mountain as if to bash her on the ice. The bird swooped low just a metre above the ice “perfect now drop down” she whispered slipping out of the jacket she was wearing which the bird had been clinging onto and landing right onto the ice. Freya wobbled slipping forward along the ice the egg clutched to her chest. She could see the hawk wheeling round to chase after her. Freya cursed she couldn’t tunnel through the ground due to the ice. She just needed to get further down the mountain then she could hide and get back down to master Shu.

    Moments later the hawk was flying alongside Freya cawing angrily as she slid down the ice wobbeling. 3…2…1…0 the ice underneath her feet disappeared and she tunnel straight into the ground just as the bird sped forward in a swoop towards her. Freya grinned as the bird wheeled around unable to reach her underground. She tunnelled forward towards Shu. Alright she’d got the egg and almost had it back to Shu, although he had neglected to tell her about the freezing temperature she thought as she shivered, her jacket somewhere on the mountain. Freya popped up close by to Shu. She grinned pulling the egg out which was still intact and the hawk had not been harmed “Alright here you go Master Shu, one Phoenix Hawk egg, enjoy” she smiled holding the egg out for Shu and sitting down across from him waiting for his verdict on her exam. She felt apprehensive and shifted her weight nervously waiting for his reply. Would she make it?. She hoped she had done well enough, she wanted to serve Blue Pegasus proudly and she could do that best at the best rank she could be.

    Shuhei looked at the egg with utter disappointment as he lifted his hand and pointed at the bottom of the egg.  A place Freya seemed to have neglected as egg seemed to have poured from a small hole in the bottom.  "Sorry, you fail."  He said bluntly as he scratched the back of his head and sighed.  He was awfully disappointed that he didn't get to have his Phoenix egg breakfast, but more so that he had to fail Freya.  Or perhaps less so... He was quite hungry and looked forward to his Shadow Island Bacon with a side of Phoenix Hawk egg.  He sighed and turned around, checking the bacon which sizzled in the frying pan.  Suddenly, his stomach growled loudly, almost loud enough that they could just about hear an echo in the cavernous mountain region.  Again Shuhei turned around.  "On second thought...  There should be at least one more egg in that nest."  Again the phoenix hawk squawked loudly as it circled above.  "So I'll give you another chance."  Shuhei smiled as he waved to Freya.  "Good luck!"

    OOC: Alright, so I'm going to get you to do this again.  Read my first post more carefully and get a better grasp of your surroundings.  The cliff side is completely vertical, or sloping outward to make it more difficult to scale, which shouldn't be that much of an issue for you, however you'll have a harder time getting down.  No sliding down like you did before, or else you'll be in free fall.  Also, there should be no ice on the cliff, I said it was nearly freezing, not frozen so you'll just be feeling the cold but you won't have to deal with ice or snow.  Finally the nest is near the center, not at the top so you'll have to scale just about double the length of the cliff to reach the top like you did before.  I'll also grant you another 250 words on to your limit, since 1,000 might have been a little... Steep (Trolol)
