Sabers and a Lilith {Job|Hika}

Leaning over her window with her elbows propped up on the windowpane, the girl stared out into the distance. There wasn’t anything interesting to look at apart from the fluffy white clouds that seemed to look like cotton candy drifting through the wind. It was one of the best things she liked about the new guildhall of Sabertooth. Being 2,200 meters up in the sky, she could almost see everything down below on the ground. With a small smile carved on her lips, she brushed her hair aside from her face and a sigh left her lips — out of content, satisfaction. Her thoughts almost wandered off immediately before she heard a knock on her door.
”Come in.” She said, her tone a bit edgy, her brows creasing, slightly irritated that her space has been disturbed.
”There’s a letter for you, Miss Hikari.” Handing the letter that was secured tightly inside an envelope to her, Hika took it from the guard's hands and glanced at the stamp that was placed in the middle of the envelope. The Magic Council. It was extremely weird of them to send a private message to her. She wondered what it might be before she unfolded the letter and read it to herself.

An hour later, she would find herself walking towards the Haunted Village, which wasn’t one of her favourite things to do because it was one hell of a scary village for her and creeps the heck out of her whenever she visits there for a mission and whatnot. With her weapons hung around her body — a rocket launcher on her back and a mini-gun around her waist, she thrusted the letter into the pocket of her short-shorts, her bright red orbs scanning around the place to see if there was anyone. According to the information on the letter, she was supposed to be doing this job with someone else whom she had no clue about. From a distance, she could see a faint glow illuminating in the dark. Approaching closer, she noticed a figure standing at the entrance of the village, loitering around. She was quite certain she had seen the face before but not entirely sure of who she was. ”Yo, you’re from Sabertooth, right? I’m Hika. I’m guessing you’re here by the order of the Magic Council, yeah?”

”Tane — that’s a nice name.”
Hika grinned, throwing a glance towards her partner or her guild mate and strode into the village. The vibes she received upon entering the place was definitely not good. With her eyes scanning around the deserted place, she put herself on guard and continued to walk in silence. Upon hearing Tane’s comment, Hika smirked, ”Don’t worry, we’ll definitely be able to defeat her.” The statement probably made her sound like an arrogant girl who’s proud of herself but no, it was her confidence. She felt optimistic today, for no specific reason. On her way, there wasn’t any magical power she could sense, apart from herself and Tane’s so she assumed there probably won’t be any threat around. The place was as dead and silent as a graveyard with no one left in the area. The only sound she could hear was her metallic boots thudding against the solid, hard ground. Obviously, who in their right mind would be stupid enough to live in a spooky village like this? Despite the fact that Hika had been to this Haunted Village for numerous times, she still wasn’t used to how frightening the village was.

The ace of Sabertooth crossed her arms against her chest, slightly feeling chilly due to her outfit she had worn — not that the cold was unbearable of. After examining the area and the abandoned houses, they finally came upon to a structure that seemly looked like a well. Both Tane and Hika peeked their heads into the well to observe what might be in there, but much to her disappointment as well as relief, there wasn’t anything for them to expect. All of a sudden, she could hear soft whispers, causing her to turn around swiftly just to see no one. She peeked inside the well to check if it was the source of the disturbing whispers, in vain. Glancing at Tane with a confused expression on her face, she questioned, ”Do you hear that?”

”Mmm.”
Hika nodded, forcing the whispers out of her head and directed her attention elsewhere. Tane was right; Lilith probably was trying to mess with them. The spooky whispers weren’t frightening albeit, they were definitely annoying and the fact that she is a girl with quick temperament, it was very easy to piss her off. Her eyebrows twitched slightly, a nerve popping out on her temple as she tried her best to maintain her composure even though she could be bursting out in anger any moment. Following behind Tane, they travelled further into the village, encountering the buildings that were abandoned, similar to the previous ones they saw before. Hika continued to observe the place around as they went deeper, her senses on guard and her eyes nervously shifting from one place to another. A pile of bones laying in the dirt around the corner was rather visible enough for her to notice and she came to realize that things were getting even more spooky.

”Hold on.” Hika grabbed Tane’s arm lightly as she stopped dead on her tracks and listened, focused. The whispers that were taunting them had disappeared but the sound she just heard was different. It was like the sound of something whizzing by real fast but she couldn’t tell what it was. She released her grasp on Tane and turned around to face nothing. On her sides — nothing. Nothing was there, but why was this noise bothering her. Is it Lilith toying with them again? Most likely. She turned her attention towards the ground but there wasn’t anything there either. Tilting her head backwards, her eyes moved upwards into the sky and there she saw — numerous of spears flying down to them. Her jaw dropped immediately, her body frozen to the spot, she wondered what she should do. Should she run? Obviously.

I'm sleepy as fuck

The spears raining down upon on both of them had completely freaked Hika out. For a moment, she thought she was going to die before she broke a run for the tunnel that was located on the right. It was weird that she didn’t notice it earlier despite how she was being so observant minutes ago. Running as hard as she could, she trailed along behind Tane towards the tunnel and crawled into it for shelter before producing a long sigh. Relieved, she leaned back into the wall of the tunnel and closed her eyes as she laid her hand on her chest in which her heart was pounding against it. ”God, that was one hell of a scary moment.” Hika breathed out and let out a soft chuckle, content that she had made it out alive. She surely has to thank this tunnel for being here otherwise both of them would have been pierced to death. The spears poured down onto the tunnel, making lots of clunking sounds before she was definite that they were safe from the spears and they would crawl back out of the tunnel. Her eyes scanned around the vacant place which was now covered with spears laying across the land. ”Yeah, me too. We would’ve died.” Hika nodded, raising both of her eyebrows before she laughed. As much as she found it rather frightening, this job had been rather fun for her as well.

”Let’s travel further, shall we?” Hika repositioned her weapons around her body once again and proceeded on walking to a certain place she wasn’t even certain about, this time being more cautious about what was going to come this time. Hopefully, it’s not spears showering upon them again. Kicking the dirt on the ground, she rubbed her chin, frowning slightly, ”Hmm, I wonder when we will ever find this Lilith.”

”Hm?”
Hika took a glance at her own weapons and gave them a gentle stroke on each of her guns, a smile growing on her lips. She found it quite flattering when one asks a question about her weapons although they may not be complimenting at all. ”Eh, you could say so, haha. It took me quite a while to build these. My interest for guns are like real big, ya know.” Hika chuckled, her eyes curving into those which looked like a crescent and rubbed the back of her head rather awkwardly. Taking notice of Tane’s barefoot, Hika asked, ”Don’t your feet feel cold without any shoes?” She must admit, Tane was quite an unusual guild mate but then, it didn’t matter to her — she liked a little bit of weirdness in everyone. For now, they could say that this mission has been quite unchallenging so far, seeing that none of them haven’t even used their magic yet, not even her own weapons yet so it was a good sigh. Maybe when they encounter Lilith, magic will be necessary to take her down.

Hika shifted her gaze sideways, observing carefully before she switched her glance once again just to see a sword right in front of her face, merely inches away from her. A slight gasp escaped from her lips, beads of sweat forming on her forehead. Another moment of death. This Lilith always catch her off-guard, even when she was paying her utmost attention to the surroundings. The sword in front of her face did not move. With the sharp end pointed towards her, it threatened to poke her to death. Hika wondered what she should do in this situation. This was probably no more than Lilith taunts. She turned her head away from the sword in vain; the sword was still there, following her every move. She could try to reach for the sword and move it out of her path but she was clueless on what would happen afterwards. This was going to be trouble.

Hika gulped down the huge lump in her throat as a drop of sweat rolled down her temple. She could be killed at any moment right now. The sword was following her every move, she couldn’t just get rid of it. But then, she can’t just stand still like a statue because the sword was making its way closer to her face every second. Her breath ragged, all she could hear was the thudding noise of her heart beating against her chest, threatening to lunge out of her rib case. This was definitely not good. Meanwhile, she tried to come up with a plan to lose sight of this sword. Why can’t Lilith just show up instead of toying around with them? It was really pissing her off. She wondered if Lilith was having fun, laughing to herself while they were being treated as playthings. It was quite an astonishment on how Lilith can track the two Sabertooth mages without showing up herself. From her observation, there can’t be cameras lying around in a wide deserted area like this. Possibly, Lilith could be watching them with her magic. Listening to Tane’s advice, she nodded and pushed her foot back extremely slowly, one foot after another. Honestly, Hika was glad Tane was trying her best to help her out to escape from this.

Meanwhile, Hika came up with an idea. It may not be an impressive one but it wouldn’t hurt to try, unless the sword started poking her to death. It was rather weird that the sword was dancing without the owner, himself, holding the sword. She reached for the mini gun that was positioned on the side of her waist, her fingers curling around the handles of the weapon without her eyes even moving from the sword. Within a blink of an eye, Hika swung her gun right in front of her face and slammed it against the sword to knock it over onto the ground. Unfortunately, the sword didn’t even budge although she applied every ounce of strength in that one single attack.

As seconds flew by, Hika became more panicked as sweat beads would form on her face for her death would be determined by this sword. She could not waste any moment, the sword was moving closer and closer and she just didn’t seem to be able to do anything to get rid of it. Her plan had failed when she smacked her mini gun against the sword. She wasn’t even sure if she would even die from this since she believed this was all an illusion. But, what if she accidentally screwed things up and got killed by a dancing sword. What would happen if she dodged the sword? Hika could try things out but she wouldn’t know if they would cause her to die and obviously, she wouldn’t want that. There was no way to escape from this, even fighting against a beast would be a much better option than facing this sword. Many things were jumbled up in her mind that she, herself, is even confused from what she was pondering about. Forcing herself to calm her nerves, Hika pushed away the thoughts that might distract her from coming up with an idea and cleared her mind.

Hika closed her eyes and exhaled, her shoulders drooped down, hopelessly. Then, Tane suggested an idea in which she approved of. Nodding, Hika reached for the hilt of the sword slowly while it danced before her eyes. It pisses her off that she couldn’t do anything to escape from this and her headache was not helping at all. If Lilith ever showed herself, Hika would rip her head off at this precise moment and wouldn’t even leave a dust of her body on land. Fuming with anger, Hika tried to grab the sword. With her fists clenched, there was nothing held in her hands. Once again, she attempted to hold the sword from the hilt, but to no avail. It was as if holding thin air.

Maybe Hika heard Tane wrong since her mind got confused and she went all panicky after being threatened by a dancing blade. Hopefully, this time they will be able to stop the sword. There was no time left. The sword was barely a few inches away from her face. That was already enough to frighten the heck out of her. Her throat was dry and she felt like she couldn’t get any words out of her. Man, this was one hell of an experience. She will never want to encounter this kind of situation ever again. Nodding at Tane’s suggestion, she moved into the position behind her and stared at her own feet. Hika felt relieved for some reason, after the sword was out of her sight. Letting out a sigh, she closed her eyes for a moment. Her only wish was to get over with this job quickly and proceed onwards back to their guild with their pockets filled with jewels. Standing behind Tane, she noticed a huge difference between their heights. This girl was even tall enough to be a model, she would ponder. Not only that, she had good looks as well.

Shaking her head, Hika pushed her thoughts out of her head and pushed her foot backwards, step by step. She kept repeating the procedure before Tane came up with a question. Hika would shake her head and grin, ”Nah, I’m alright.” This Lilith child was a pain in the ass, honestly. She wondered how troublesome it would be for them once they finally come face to face with Lilith. She was sure this little 5 year old girl was going to get a good beating from her for fooling around with them. Hika kept walking backwards as she was told until she peeked her head from behind Tane’s shoulder to notice that the sword had finally vanished into thin air. Her lips breaking into a huge smile, she pumped up her fists into the air, laughing hysterically. ”Yeah, we did it! That bloody sword just fucking disappeared. Hahahaha!”

It appeared to Hika that Tane was good with instructions, not to mention, leadership as well. If she wasn’t accompanied together with her fellow guild mate, she would have no clue to escape from the wrath of the sword. Her eyelids shut firmly as a sigh escaped her lips; relieved that the most appalling moment was finally over. Hika would walk side by side with Tane, her metallic boots trudging through the dirt and sand before her partner suddenly came up with a statement. It was a weird comment, to be honest, making Hika startled as she wondered what she should even say as a response. ”Um …” She began, her eyes shifting towards Tane, a question already on the tip of her tongue before she directed her attention to the dirt on the ground, deciding that maybe it was better to not invade other person’s privacy.

After Hika displayed her pleasure of being able to get rid of the dancing sword, it seemed that the words she had spoken had frightened her dear friend but she wasn’t bothered by it. Proceeding onwards cheerfully, Hika would hum to herself and all of a sudden Tane would bellow, causing Hika to stop dead on her tracks, her eyes as wide as an owl’s. All her thoughts scurried away immediately as Tane’s voice raised out of nowhere. ”Wha-What’s wrong?” Twisting her head into her partner’s direction, she came to notice the sword that was dancing before Tane’s eyes. At that moment, she felt like she wanted to bury herself. It was the same sword,, that intimidated her. This Lilith must be stupid, she assumed. Why was she doing all those tricks on them instead of showing herself?

Nodding at Tane’s instructions, Hika began to lead the way; the same procedure as her guild mate did when the sword was in was her direction.

Pushing her legs further forward, the blue haired girl proceeded onwards at a steady pace, ensuring that she wasn’t too fast nor too slow. Once every few minutes, the girl would turn her head around to confirm that her partner would be still tagging along behind her and not be kidnapped by Lilith. Otherwise, the situation would turn out really bad and she would definitely receive a scolding for losing her fellow partner right under her nose. Albeit, the reason why Lilith was frightening people with her tricks was a mystery to her. Eager to find out the truth, Hika was resolved to fight against Lilith and win the battle, no matter what. After seeing her tricks so far, she could tell that it wasn’t just mere simple tricks, especially not one that a 5-year old would do. How would a child be able to summon hundreds of sword out of nowhere to assassinate some mages? Unless she has got magic tricks up her sleeves. Still, it made her wonder how she was capable of doing such far-fetched taunts.

Her thoughts wandering restlessly, metallic boots trudged through the dirt and sand, making its way before she finally fell upon a huge building. Red orbs glided upwards, taking in the appearance of the building and was immediately stunned by how appalling it looked. The first thing she noticed was the ambience it released and the gloomy colour it was painted on. Her face would cringe, eyebrows creased into the centre of her forehead. Suspecting Lilith to have the same personality as the appearance of the building, a frown crept on her face followed by a shake of her head. As displeasing as it looked, she assumed Lilith would be on the same aspects. ”Let’s go in, shall we?” Shifting her gaze over to the main gate of the building, the gap between the gates came to her vision before she supposed that Lilith might have left the gates open purposely, expecting the two of them to enter her abode. Preparing whatever might happen to her afterwards, Hika pushed the door of the building open as the sound of the door creaking echoed throughout the hallway.
