Riley walked along side Aaron quietly, hoping to find a lead in this mission. Till now they had gotten nowhere. All they found was blood. There no signs of the rune knights or the lady. The one thing she wanted was for them to be safe. But she knew that there was a very faint possibility or worse, no possibility of they're survival. They continued walking in silence before soft shuffling noises filled the air. Riley was quickly alerted and hopefully, so was her partner. She looked around frantically, wanting to find the source of the noise before anything happened.

But alas, she was too late to comprehend what was about to happen. Before she knew, rocks were erratically lifted from the ground and were coming in their direction with a lot of force. Riley couldn't do anything to defend herself as her Magical pressure was still pretty low from the previous trick she used.

Aaron was silent as they walked, though he didn't know it his thoughts were along the same lines as Riley's, though perhaps a bit more optimistic. He knew that there was a chance of death, but he also knew that he would take everything he could with him, and that was consoling.

Aaron's thoughts were interrupted by the sound of more movement in the shadows heralding a bombardment of stones. Aaron grabbed Riley and pushed her behind him without thinking before standing over her, using his weapon to deflect the stones. Unfortunately he wasn't quick enough to get all of them and they he was covered in bruises. If you can requip some armor do it now!, We'll have to wait this out! Aaron took a step away from Riley before he began his own spell, planting his weapon in the ground before sticking his hands out palms first. Void Wall! Black void substance spilled from Aaron's hands and rose to surround him before becoming clear, the only demarcation of the shield's boundaries being a slight shimmer that all of the stones disappeared into when they came at Aaron.

When Aaron had asked Riley if she could requip into any armour, she internally face palmed. She knew for a fact that she didn't have enough magical energy to requip into her armour that sometimes drains a little more of her energy, depending on the force of the attack. Instead of standing there behind her partner, looking impressed by his magic, she crawled behind the nearest tree.

She sat there, her hand placed on the tree as she slightly leaned in to take a closer look at Aaron's magic. She sat there awestruck staring. After the attack ended. She came out and dusted her clothes. "Sorry, I can't be much help right now." She felt guilty for making Aaron do all the work himself. He didn't need a partner who would just be a burden on him. She looked up at him "I promise, I'll try to be more helpful."

Aaron hardly noticed as Riley moved behind the tree to avoid the rocks. Instead he watched as the stones simply disappeared into the void at the edge of his shield, it never ceased to fascinate him how he held this power. He would be the first to admit that he was not stronger than any other mage inherently, but he could easily see the potential in what he had, and the possibilities were staggering. He supposed that any other magic had the same potentials for power, but he never saw other magic users gaining the same amount of solace that he found in his magic. Something about the feel of the void energies was welcoming to him, almost familial.

A young Aaron was standing on a platform in a wild place full of color and energy, in front of him floated a giant black shape. Aaron vaugley felt that he should be feeling fear at the appearance of this being but all he felt was joy. Oh chosen child of our minds. We welcome you to our home, a home that will eventually be yours. Though your memories will be locked away we will watch you, you will never be without companionship again.

Aaron went rigid as the memory over took him, but it was gone as soon as it came. The memory was new, yet old. Aaron struggled in vain to recall it as vividly as it had first come, but he could not, it had faded into just another memory, albeit a little more powerful and odd. More frustratingly no matter how he tried he couldn't remember who it was in the memory speaking to him, or where he had been.

Aaron started when Riley spoke to him and turned to face her. What she said made him chuckle. Don't worry about it, consider us even for your chasing them off before. All I've really done is protect myself and lose my temper. Ahh... Aaron backed away from Riley a few steps as he spoke, you might want to stay at least six feet away from me for a bit, I can't actually lower this shield, and it will take your hand as readily as it takes stones and leaves. Indeed, as Aaron backed up a swath of bare earth was left in his wake as the shield absorbed the debris on the ground.

Riley nodded and obliged. She backed away at least six feet away from him as he used his magic. She used this time to think carefully about their mission. She remembered the the blood stained diary and the recorder lacrima. What made her more curious was the facy that ever since they entered the forest, they had found no signs of the rune knights other that the blood that was splattered across the floor, which may or may not have belonged to an animal fallen prey. She found this rather absurd. If any demon were to eat them or kill them, there would be some clues left. Possibly a torn piece of clothing or any other clue. but there were none. She wanted to find out what happened to the rune knights and get out of there alive. But keeping in mind that they hadn't found a single clue that would be rather difficult. They probably might not even make it alive out of the forest because they are in a forest, at night, with a lunatic demon possessed lady on the loose. Could this mission get any worse?

Aaron silently pondered their situation as he waited for his spell to run itself out. They were currently in forest that was known for it's supernatural occurrences, hunting down a vicious demon in a possibly suicidal attempt to uncover the fate of an entire squad of rune knights, and were being mentally harassed by strange forces. The logical choice would be to call it a day and head back. Possibly he could train until he was strong enough to take this on alone and then come back, but that idea left a sour taste in Aaron's mouth, he wanted answers, and he didn't like giving up, but at the same time retreat was sometimes the best option.

Alright, I propose that we keep looking a little while longer, and if we don't find anything we leave, or if something else jumps us we leave after dealing with it. How does that sound to you?

"I'm fine with it." Riley was honestly fine with the idea. That place gave her the goosebumps but she was very curious. She wanted to find the rune knights. She started walking deep into the forest. As she was walking, she couldn't help but wonder once again what condition they would find the rune knights in. She kept walking until she noticed slight blood stains on the dirty ground. She looked at Aaron before advancing forward. As they walked forward, the blood stains turned into puddles of blood. She lifted her head to see the trees covered in dead bodies, each one of the men wearing rune knight uniform. Her eyes widened. Usually at this point she would be frozen in terror, but not this time. "We have to get out of here." Her voice was soft. Without thinking she grabbed Aaron's hand and ran. She ran as fast as her legs could could .

Unlike Riley, Aaron was actually mildly fascinated by the bodies, he wanted to see what exactly had been done to them. If he knew that he would be able to somewhat gauge the demons abilities. Unfortunately for him, Riley was not nearly as interested. When she grabbed his arm Aaron started to protest, but then he saw her face. She was done with this, and she wanted to be gone. Aaron decided not to argue and ran after her. To him this did feel a bit like giving up, but he also doubted he could take care of this alone, and he wasn't about to try and keep Riley here. As they broke out of the forest Aaron looked back at the treeline, and his expression hardened. The forest had beaten them today, but he would be back, and he would find out what happened, even if he had to wipe the forest off the face of Fiore to find out.
