    Job Details:

The people of the town cheered and praised whatever religious deities they worshipped that someone had finally come to rid their village of the curse involving... crop demons? Was someone really that hell bent on ruining this town, that they had to directly attack their food supplies? This man must hold some grudge or something, and Orin hoped that she could figure out what it was. As she approached the village, her parasol leaning against her shoulder as she held it with both her feminine hands, the mayor approached her with a very grateful look on his face and begun to interrogate her as much as possible.

"The people tell me you are the mage that will help rid our town of this awful curse, correct?" the man asked, looking very hopeful. He was dressed in a suit with a tailcoat, a monocle and a top hat, and he looked to be a very humble middle aged man with just a bit too much weight. Orin only looked happily down at the man and gave a little curtsy to show her politeness and respect for someone of a high position within the town before nodding in response to his question.

"Yes I am, and I would be quite thankful for any insight on this problem you may give me. Knowledge is power, I believe they say." Orin spoke happily and calmly to the man. The mayor smiled happily and motioned for the cat girl to follow him, which Orin did without hesitation. There was no time to waste and she would have to begin as soon as possible, that was for sure.

The man begun walking through the town and the people humbly continued their daily lives, although there was an air tension throughout the town. Orin couldn't help but notice it as she walked alongside the mayor, careful to keep her posture as straight and noble as possible. She would love to correct the mayor on his poor, hunched over sort of posture, but many years of being bent over a table doing tedious paperwork would do that to one's back. He wasn't to blame in the slightest, and Orin didn't seem to mind as she usually would.

"Just about a week ago, the crops that the farmer have been growing have all been dying for absolutely no reason. Never before have they all died like they have now, and what's even more peculiar is that there have been massive thorny vines growing around them. We were hoping you could take a good look at them and try to figure out what is wrong with them." the mayor explained quickly as he strode down the dirt road, hands held behind his back as he led Orin to the farms. The cat girl listened intently and frowned at the mention of their crops dying. Wasn't this place responsible for quite a bit of the food that goes around Fiore? If this problem wasn't taken care of ASAP, then they could have a sort of crisis on their hands.

"I will do my best to solve this problem, for the people of your village." Orin said with determination. The mayor smiled warmly as he looked down the dirt road. He really did admire the girl's spirit.

Less than ten minutes passed and the mayor and Orin arrived at the farms, making Orin realize the direness of the situation almost instantly. It was true that the crops were overgrown with thorns, seemingly only just after having withered.

"Do you understand now?" the mayor asked Orin with a grim tone. Orin could only nod in response before walking closer to the crops. The two stood on a hill overlooking a field of the crops, and all of it was covered in thorny vines. Was there a cure for this, or was it all dead regardless? Harvest season was coming up shortly, meaning that they wouldn't have time to grow new crops if these ones withered completely for real. Hopefully there was a way to reverse the spell, and if not then she would make one. Orin had crafted an entire magic for herself, so it wouldn't be hard to make one spell to counter this curse.

"I will be back when the problem is fixed, mayor."
Orin said, not taking her eyes off the farm as she slowly walked towards the fields of dead crops. "I promise I will not rest until I have undone this horrid curse."

Leaping off of the top of the hill, Orin held her parasol above her and started slowly gliding down towards the field of crops. There were so many thorns... it would be difficult for Orin to not wound herself on said thorns, although that wouldn't be much of a problem actually. Her magic revolved around her getting hurt, so it didn't even bother Orin that there would be hazards. Landing lightly upon the dirt ground, the cat girl looked around at the thorny vines with intrigue. They didn't seem to be glowing when she looked at them from a distance, yet when she got close to then they lit up like lamps. Did they react to magical energy? It seemed so, which meant that this was in fact the result of some mage's curse.

A rustling within a massive patch of thorns caught the young Orin's attention, causing her gaze to wander over to the source. Whatever had made the noise was still within the patch, keeping itself hidden from her view. It was also making a growling noise, that was slowly getting closer and closer to her. Placing her hand on the bottom of her parasol, Orin prepared to draw the sword from Sylpheed and strike at whatever it was that was approaching her. It sounded threatening enough to arouse suspicion that it may be one of the plant demons that have been terrorizing the village. Readying herself for combat, Orin bent her knees and eyed the thorny brush as the growling slowly grew closer...

From the brush emerged not one, but five gigantic corn shaped... demons? They had red eyes and giant, gaping mouths, and they took no less than a few seconds to surround Orin. The corn seemed to stand there as they all looked at Orin, but she didn't move much. She just stood in awe that there were giant corn demons. Of all the different types of demons that Orin knew about from her time studying, these were not one of them. It seemed kind of silly actually, which is why she had such a hard time believing what she was seeing. A good few dozen seconds passed and the corn all started to laugh at her.

"Haha, look at her with her silly dress!"

"Does she really think that hairstyle is attractive?"

"And those ears and tails! So not cute!"

These were just SOME of the things that the corn mocked her about, causing her grip on her sword to tighten. They were infuriating, these corns... She wanted them gone. HOURS she had spent on making sure her appearance was flawless, and it was just as such. Nothing these foul plants said were even factually correct. She had to keep telling herself this, else she would become uncontrollably livid and start using her magic to cook them, possibly destroying the actual crops in the process. But their insults were so... just...

"Eugh, how foul." the cat muttered as she slowly drew the sword from her parasol, folding it in the process so she could grab it around the fabric to keep it from getting caught in the wind. "Prepare to be disposed of, foul creatures. Your ignorance to true beauty shall not be forgiven."

Before the corn could even laugh at Orin, the cat girl had propelled herself at one of the ones to her left, her rapier arm held back with the tip of the sword pointed at the corn. Before it could react, the rapier pierced through the exact center of it before pulling out and slicing it twice across the head, cutting it clean in half. The other corn gasped and almost immediately charged her, clearly seeing how easily their comrade fell. Before they could touch her, however, she leaped high into the air above them, causing them to all collapse into a pile. A burst of wind flung her towards the pile of corn that was slowly struggling to recover, and a bit of condensed blood from her blood telekinesis formed on the tip of her blade. Just before the corn could properly get up, Orin thrust her rapier into the middle of the pile, piercing one of the corns square between its eyes and releasing a small explosion of blood that flung the rest of the 3 corn away, while Orin's rapier kept the one stuck in the ground.

As the other three recovered slowly, Orin stood on top of the one who was squirming around in pain from her rapier. This wasn't as hard as she was expecting. They were supposed to be demons, not some stupid corn shaped creature. Demons were notoriously evil and powerful, right? Right?

"How pathetic." The cat said in a stuck up tone. "Hmph. I suppose you are just misshapen beasts after all. No demon would be this pathetic."

The three cobs that were still standing finally got up and stood there looking tense and ready to attack Orin. She merely stood there, looking unimpressed and lazy. It was then that they opened their mouths to shout something. Orin tensed up and quickly removed the sword from the now dead cob on the ground, reading it in front of her in a standard fencing position, despite her fighting style not involving fencing in the slightest.

    "Corn Corn Cannon!"
they all shouted before firing a series of corn cobs at her from their open mouths. Orin quickly leaped away and started strafing around them, jumping over and around thorny vines while deflecting the occasional projectile corn here and there. With a grunt, Orin raised her hand to her palm and bit into it, tearing away a little piece of skin so her crimson blood could flow freely. A bit of blood formed in front of her, and about a litre of blood exited her wound before joining with the litre that formed magically from thin air. Orin jumped closer to the corn demons and kicked off of a thorn before swinging her hand at the one in the middle. Her blood formed a saw blade-like wheel that was sent towards the corn and struck him before he could realize what was flying towards him. The wheel made contact and tried to push forwards and cut through him, but failed ultimately, as the corn's... kernels, were too hard. Screaming in agony, the corn fell over as the wheel burst into a puddle of blood that covered it.

The next thing the other corn knew was that it had been stabbed repeatedly in the back, effectively killing it, and the last one just stood there cowering. As its friend collapsed to reveal a livid Orin, the corn could only stare in fear and shock as Orin leaped at it and sliced it clean in half.

Sighing as she sheathed her sword, Orin started walking along the dirt pathways of the corn fields. The thorny vines extended from one block of crops into the other, and in some places they formed a wall that Orin would have to jump over. It was quite tedious and annoying, as it quickly got on Orin's nerves and forced her to adopt a frown on her face. "Why are these villains so obnoxiously unorganized..." Orin muttered. Her cat ears twitched as they picked up the sound of something behind her. There were yet more growls coming from behind her, and just in front of her was a wall that she seemingly couldn't jump over. This would be fun, she thought as she turned around to face whatever was there, her hand on the hilt of her blade. The growls were louder and more numerous this time, indicating that there were more this time as well. How fun... Hopefully she could keep herself from harming the actual crops while keeping herself from dying via living corn.

Her thoughts were interrupted as her stalkers emerged from the thorny vines, ready to take her head off just as she was ready to take theirs.

From the thorny bushes emerged five more corn demons, followed by... giant walking tomatoes? They had tomato monsters too? Great, now she'd be covered in ketchup AND blood. She doubted she could get any redder after that. The tomatoes didn't bother wasting their time with words like the last group of corn had, and they immediately charged at Orin without wasting a single second. The cat drew her sword and held it at the ready, preparing to take on the ten tomatoes all at once. From the left leaped a tomato, which Orin split clean in half with a vertical strike, then another tried ambushing her from the right while her attention was in the opposite direction. That tomato was pierced clean through before being flung off the tip of Orin's rapier with no less than a simple swish of her blade.

Expecting one of the other tomatoes to jump at her, Orin turned back towards the group with her rapier ready for a quick thrust or swing, but was only met with a series of normal sized corns to the gut. The corn had all fired at her, and she was met with a barrage of corn cobs from in front of her. It would have been much worse if she had been attacked from all sides, because then there was no way she would have gotten out of it. Orin's legs reacted before her brain could, and she leaped to the side and out of the barrage, albeit barely. She had to dispose of them quickly, but she wasn't sure how... Wait.

Landing on the ground, a litre of blood formed in her hand and another litre exited from her wounds, creating a long sort of shape in her hand. With a cocky looking grin, Orin closer her hand and the blood almost instantaneously formed a curved blade. Now wielding two swords, Orin held one above her head and the other in front of her as she prepared for the rest of the vegetables to attack.

The eight remaining tomatoes and five corn cob monsters charged her all at once, hoping to overwhelm her with sheer numbers. Oh how wrong they would be to do that. With a wide grin, Orin slashed horizontally at the tomatoes, cutting two of them in half. A split second later, one of the corn monsters charged at Orin and tried to ram her. Reacting quickly, Orin sidestepped and swept the feet out from underneath the corn with one swift kick. As the corn fell, she used Sylpheed's wind manipulation to increase the speed of her rapier arm. In no more than two seconds, the corn had been stabbed over a dozen times, forcing it to collapse and die. Two tomatoes leaped at her from the left, but she quickly twisted herself around and swung at them with her blood sword at the same time. One of them was cut in half by the swing, and Orin stabbed the other one before it could get to her.

Stepping back just in time to dodge two corn cobs charging her, she managed to turn and jump back a few feet to take numbers on who was left. There were four corns left and four tomatoes. The remaining numbers all seemed to charge her with the intentions of ramming her, but oh how silly they were.

Orin grunted and watched as the corn and tomatoes all charged her before she muttered something under her breath. A pool of blood formed at her feet, and it was obscured by the vines so when she took a few steps back, it looked more like it was out of hesitation rather than wanting to get out of range. One of the corns stepped on the puddle and realized his mistake too late as the pool of crimson essence burst upwards and enveloped him in small, thin tendrils of blood. Seeing what was happening to their comrade, two of the tomatoes attempted to free their fellow plant of his confinement while the other two tomatoes and three corns charged Orin. The two corns attempted once more to ram Orin, but were only met by the cat's rapier. With the speed she was granted by her rapier, it was no surprise that the two cobs simply collapsed dead, the momentum causing them to skid across the ground on either side of her.

The other two tomatoes opened their mouths and unleashed a stream of... ketchup, at her? Orin dodged it obviously, strafing to the side and leaping at the two tomatoes. They quickly met their end by a single slash from Orin's rapier each, then another by her blood sword for each. By this time, the tomatoes had freed the corn from its confines and were absolutely livid. They turned to Orin looking completely furious, however their fury turned to fear once they fully understood what was going on. By that time, Orin was already behind them, and they had already been sliced to ribbons by Orin's rapier and blood sword.

"Pitiful." was all that escaped the cat's mouth before her blood sword collapsed into a puddle. Orin started walking back towards the town, or so she would have hoped...

Before Orin could take a full step towards the village, she was sent flying by yet another corn demon ramming into her side. "Just how many are there!?" Orin exclaimed before landing in a patch of sharp thorns. The thorns tore into her clothes and skin, causing her to gasp out in pain before moaning happily in pleasure. She squirmed a little bit, causing the thorns to dig into her skin just like she wanted them to. "Ah- Ahn!!" Orin moaned before looking up at the corn demons. They looked absolutely disgusted. They should be.

Slowly pushing herself upwards and purposefully pricking her hand on some of the thorns, Orin smiled perversely and charged at the corn, sword pointed at it. The corn managed to dodge the stab that Orin made, but it failed to get out of the way of the subsequent slashes and finishing stab. Four more corn erupted from the ground around Orin, and she could only keep grinning at them with her perverse stare. Her torso twisted and her arm reeled back before she twisted herself back around and stabbed once, twice, and then a thrice time at the corn, impaling it each time and causing it to fall over dead. A normal sized corn cob hit her in the back of the head, causing her to stumble forwards before she was caught in another barrage of flying corn cobs. Jeez, when would these guys learn to give up?

Turning around to face the barrage, Orin did her best to sidestep and deflect the corn cobs that flew at her while slowly approaching the corns. They gave up their projectile assault after quickly realizing it was futile. The cat's movements were far too quick, and her reflexes were far superior. Like all the others, they seemed to have some sort of idea that numbers would matter in this case. They were lesser creatures to Orin, and she was a mage. There was nothing to do, they should really just give up hope and stop this fruitless struggle of theirs.

Yet despite knowing this and wanting to tell them to stop, Orin didn't utter a single sound in the slightest. Not when they looked livid, not when they charged her, and not when she sliced each individual one to ribbons in less than three seconds each. The first went down with two slashes and a stab to the middle, the second went down with two stabs followed by a sweep kick and then two slashes, and the last simply fell when Orin used her wind manipulation to stab it repeatedly up to ten times. A simple task that was difficult to fail.

With a sigh, the cat girl knelt down and started panting lightly. She was still in a bit of pleasure from being thrown onto a bed of thorns, but she was also starting to feel slightly tired. This was far too much, even for her, and she was surprisingly skilled at combat. All those years training with her adoptive mother really paid off. Slowly gathering her strength, Orin stood up and looked up towards the hill in the distance. It was covered with trees and was probably the border to some forest. But something was off. There was... someone standing up there? With a magic circle in front of them!?

Orin gasped and realized who this man may be. The wizard who was casting the curse on the village! She didn't waste any time, and quickly began to run towards him. The man didn't seem to notice, or at least not that Orin did. She couldn't see the man's eyes, as the top half of his face was covered with a shadow that was cast by his robes. He did however, have some damn impressive facial hair. However, Orin wasn't attracted to men in the slightest, women only. This man was just damn out of luck, now wasn't he? Or so Orin would have hoped. Once more, she was cut off by a group of...

...walking corn monsters. Great. Now Orin would have to deal with them as well. This time there was only three, much to her own joy. Two of the corn cobs charged her while the last one fired normal sized corn from its gaping mouth, giving Orin multiple things to occupy herself with. Raising her sword to deflect several corn, Orin made sure to keep track of the corn that were running at her, but that was becoming increasingly difficult with the fact that there was corn being fired at her. Suddenly, the corn barrage stopped and she could finally look around to see where the corn was.

She was surrounded on both sides by the corn, which prompted her to backstep to get out of the way. The cat was surprised greatly when she found herself being launched forwards by some other source. Turning her head back, she looked to see that there was a fourth corn monster behind her. It had rammed into her wounded back, causing her a great deal of both pain and pleasure as she was sent through the air and skidding across the ground. Slowing to a stop, Orin slowly pushed herself onto her feet and stood upright, looking at the corn monsters. Slowly and painfully, Orin struggled to raise her sword in front of her. Such movement was futile, as from behind her there was the sound of earth shattering. Looking over her shoulder, Orin saw the final corn monster bursting out of the ground just in time to see it ram her into the ground.

Orin yelled out in pain as she was forced sprawled out onto the ground. The corn cob that had knocked her down stepped on her back and put pressure on it, making sure that she couldn't get up. No matter how much the cat struggled, she couldn't manage to overcome the corn monster that was rubbing its heel into her back painfully. She was a masochist, yes, but there was only so much pain that she could take before it stopped feeling good. She had hit that point. The other corn cobs surrounded her and looked down at her, laughing demonically as they did. This couldn't be it... Orin refused to give up, but there was nothing she could do... was there?

Yes. Yes there was. She had completely forgot she could do that at all. It would have come in handy earlier, but she guessed she wasn't smart enough to have thought about it then. A grin came across her face before forming a smile, and then she just plain burst out laughing. The corn was confused, looking down at her and frowning now. The one that was stepping on her back let off pressure and raised his foot, only to violently bring it down upon her once more. The wind being knocked out of her caused her laughing to stop, but her smile never faded in the slightest.

These corn cobs were about to regret existing.

Orin didn't need to do any more than snap her fingers and mutter something under her breath for it to begin. And that's exactly what she did. Her fingers snapped and a single word left her mouth before a gigantic pool of blood formed underneath her. Her Blood-Make: Trap spell combined with the power of her lineage made it three times bigger so it enveloped the ground beneath the corn. Before any of them could react, the pool of blood exploded, creating a wave of blood that burst outwards that then formed tendrils that pulled the corn onto the ground. The corn screamed in agony as the boiling hot blood singed them and burned them away, and Orin only laughed maniacally as a response.

A good minute passed and the screams and laughter died down, giving Orin enough time to look back at the hill where the man was. It seemed he was quickly scrambling to do something, and Orin was quite sure what it was. Was he lifting the spell? A good minute of the man scrambling around passed before his magic circle vanished and he quickly ran off into the woods, panicking about something. Had he seen the miniature explosion of crimson just now? She hoped so, otherwise she just hoped that there wasn't something else that caused him to run away.

After watching the man panic and run away from the scene, Orin just sighed and began walking towards the town. The thorns didn't seem to be going away in the slightest, which worried Orin. So she might have to create that anti-curse spell after all. What a pity. After all of that and she still wasn't even done. The cat just sighed and continued walking towards the town, hoping that she could at least rest first. She was panting heavily from the physical exertion and from having to use her hidden power. She wasn't used to using her power like that, but she had to or else who knows what would have happened. Death, that's what.

Reaching the end of the field of crops, Orin turned back to the field and looked at it. Nothing was happening still. A sigh escaped her lips and Orin sheathed her sword back in her parasol. She didn't bother opening it up at all, and just turned back towards the village to continue walking towards it. What would she tell the mayor? That she couldn't find a way to fix the curse? It sounded horrible, but it seemed like she would have to do just that.

As Orin reached the village, people started crowding around her and questioning her, to which she didn't bother to respond. She would tell the news to the mayor himself, and the only issue was finding him. Looking all around her, Orin only saw people pleading to her that she had fixed their problems, causing Orin to only sigh and keep looking. A good five minutes of this went on and Orin started growing impatient. She really did need to find the mayor to this town, but it was starting to become a problem. Then, in the back of the crowd in front of her, she saw the crowd start to part for something, and no less than ten seconds later the mayor presented himself in front of Orin.

"So? Did you relieve our crops of the curse?" the mayor asked hastily and hopefully. Orin paused and looked at the mayor, a bit of a sad look in her eye. Her mouth opened to speak, but words weren't coming out. She really didn't want to have to break the news to the villagers, but it seemed she would have no choice.

    "I... uhm... I did n-"

Orin was cut off by one of the villagers shouting something.

"Everyone come quick! The thorns are going away, the curse has been lifted!"

Orin followed the people to the crops, running as fast as her wounded and exhausted legs could take her. She arrived and slowly managed to push her way to the front of the crowd so she could see just what was happening. Sure enough, the thorns were slowly shrinking and returning to the roots of the crops. At the same time, the crops, which had looked withered and decayed previously, were returning back to their healthy state. Cheers erupted from the crowd and Orin couldn't help but smile happily. Pushing her way to the other side of the crowd, Orin started walking away, feeling quite accomplished and content with herself. Just as she started walking away, there was a voice from behind her.

    "Wait!"

Orin turned to see the mayor whom was looking quite happy. "We haven't gotten to thank you yet, miss... miss... er..."

"Rin Sanguinna." Orin said, turning towards the man and smiling happily. "There is no need to thank me, for I am doing no more than my job."

"Even still, you've saved our entire village from starving to death! There must be some way we can thank you." the man said, to which Orin simply shook her head.

"The only reward I need is the feeling of gratitude from the people." the cat said warmly. The mayor simply laughed and nodded at her.

"If that is the reward you wish for, then you have it. I can speak for everyone here when I say that you have this entire village's heartfelt gratitude."

The two exchanged a few more words with each other in front of the crowd before Orin was on her way once more. Waving to the crowd behind her, Orin smiled and begun walking off away from the town. With a sigh, she opened her parasol and weakly slung it over her shoulder to keep the sun off of her as she left the town, a feeling of great accomplishment and joy within her chest.
