"Huhuhu, really? One hundred pies? Quite the ransom." - the knight giggled off as he looked on ahead, past large masses of people blocking the line of sight to the lengthy structure. Creaking with the gusty wind was a sign proudly exclaiming that what it stood upon was Clover town's closed train station. Needless to say, the rather dissatisfied crowd patrolling the area consisted of people of a colourful array of backgrounds and social standing, however unified under the common goal of travelling. Something very much impossible due to the obnoxious hindrance commonly known as "snotty gnomes and flee balls", and slightly less commonly referred to as goblins and vulcans. Amusingly enough, it appeared that the azure knight's standing as one of the wizard saints automatically meant everyone was clustering around him.

"E-excuse me! Aegis Bright, sir, can you he-..."
"Sorry, I'm busy looking for a tall, black, bald and ugly bastard. Happen to see one?"
    "...Eh?"
"Yep, thought so. Don't worry, you'll notice him."
"But, wait! C-could you help us? The trains are being heavily delayed because of some monsters or something and we're all running horribly late."
A few blinks followed by an exaggerated shoulder slumping on the side of the "dignified" knight.
"But I was going to torture Shadow today..."

Following the progression of the highly enlightening conversation was the rising number of girls and kids surrounding Aegis. Why they were all staring at him with twinkling eyes and grins was certainly unknown, but it did bestow an aura of responsibility he was trying to evade that particular day. With a sigh, he folded the newspaper he was reading until that point. What followed was a practically inaudible mumble of possible agreement-
"Woooo! We'll be rescued by a wizard saint!"
...Naturally interpreted as an absolutely positive, heroic commitment to the mundane task of beating down a monkey and a midget. It was almost like the beginning of a bad joke, but there was a good side to it all. The day was young and the weather was like that of spring, so perhaps the ordeal could be turned into something more productive?
"I guess I might as well use this to give Charcoal McGee some combat training."

Shadow was annoyed by how bad his luck was.
Last night he had had a few of the most unlucky visits you can get in a hotel room. One of the hotel maids mugged him while he was asleep. So in return he mugged her about a hour later, taking back what was his and with a few jewels the lady had snatched from another victim, when she came to change the sheets. But that was just the start of the night.
After that an assassin tried to kill him while he was counting the money he snatched from the maid, most likely just to take it but it also could of been because of his skin tone some people just didn't like it, either way he dispatched her quickly sending her on her way out the window. After that he decided to go outside to loosen up, but things went worse.
Outside was waiting a huge guy with a bald baby-like face. He didn't say anything he just charged Shadow head on. Shadow just stepped aside to the left and ran towards a pitch black alley across the street hoping that his looks would help him hide in the dark. No such luck. A swarm of angry rats attacked biting and scratching him so fast and so furious that his only choice was to run away before they could tear away his trench coat. He climbed a tree near the rail road station and fell asleep. He was woken up in his sleep by a familiar voice coming from somewhere beneath him:
"I guess I might as well use this to give Charcoal McGee some combat training."
"Oh no this has to be a nightmare not this guy, not now!" -Shadow thought.
He had enduered the previous night without even trying but Aegis, his guild master, was a whole different story. If he wanted he could turn Shadows life into a living nightmare without even trying. So Shadow hoped that he was in a good mood and his luck wouldn't falter. But still he didn't get out of the tree still hoping this was a dream and he was still sound asleep in the tree.
