The next Indy Jones? [closed mission D]

The Job:

The Forgotten Desert, a dry, and arid place where many have gone to die in search for glory and riches. The Desert is a massive area that can easily trap a person inside of it for days or even months of end. The desert was home to a mixture of plant life and animal/ insect life that were unique to that specific area. Faust had been reading up on the area that he was going to be visiting soon for an archaeological excavation. He was actually in the town of Magnolia finishing up a few simple request that he had taken on. The young dark mage was actually nearing his end of his journey and was planning on returning home to the dark guild, Savage Skull, very soon and when he did he was going to try out for the rank exam, he figured that with his two magic’s combos it would be hard to beat him, let alone catch him.

The mage was walking around store to store at the moment looking for supplies to get for this expedition. He was totally unrepaired for what was going to take place in that awful area of the world. Faust generally tried to stay away from hot areas like that but the pay for the job plus how simple seemed to draw him in. He had just begun his shopping on a fine Sunday morning in Magnolia, the street vendors were in full swing, as were the food stalls. The stall’s smell drifted through the air catching Faust’s nose making his mouth water for all the food that there were selling. As he walked down there street a particular stall seemed to catch his nose’s attention. The stall had an aroma that reminded Faust of heaven. He quickly bought two giant turkey legs and continued his shopping making his way down the busy streets pushing and shoving those that stood in the way before him.

His first shop that he stopped at was a rather large one, it was the camping and survival shop, a necessity stop when it came to stores. The store was packed with items such as tents, canteens, rope, MREs, cloths, and even medicine. Faust whistled, they really tried to make it a one stop shop here didn’t they? He walked down the aisles looking at each item with minor interest. Most of the items seemed like the same things just with minor tweaks, small things like color, fabric, pattern, and few other things. Faust felt no need for gathering a lot of equipment but he would need some things or the desert would get him, he was not too particularly well in the heat. He turned to go into the next aisle which was home to a few hiking gear, less extreme then the past isle that was for sure. Faust looked at a few backpacks trying to decide between a large bulky one with multiple zippers and pockets or a more simple one that just had a few pockets and packs.

He stared at those backpacks forever it seemed. He just sighed. He grabbed the larger one in a dark brown color. He slung the bag over his shoulder. Faust was wearing a short sleeve, sky blue shirt, and thin khaki pants and sandals on. For most people this would be crazy outfit in the early part of winter/ late part of fall but for the Ice Demon the cold weather was nothing to him, he was perfectly content in this kind of temperatures. Faust went to the next store where there were more cloths for traveling rather than gear. The cloths here were everything from subzero resistant to blazing heat. Faust took the time to read each other the gear and clothes that were made for the extreme heats. He found some cloths that would breathe extremely well in the heat allowing for comfort and breezy. The clothing was also made to reflect the sun’s rays keeping the clothes inner area cool while the outside reflected the heat.

Faust bought the jacket that reflected the heat as well, some new pairs of sunglasses that have a higher glare resistance, a few extra-large canteens, a sandstorm resistant tent, and a minor medical kit. The total cost of all the goods nearly whipped Faust’ of all his remaining jewels leaving him flat broke. As he exited the market place a determined look was on his face. Now that he had the materials that he needed it was time for him to go ahead and head out of town and toward the train station to get a ride on over to the desert. The desert was extremely far away from Magnolia so it was going to take nearly a day if not more to get to the camp site where the request was to take place at. He slowly walked towards the station to buy his ticket and wait for his train. He grabbed a ticket from the front and sat on one of the several long benches waiting for the train to come.

As Faust sat there he watched the people waiting to get on board the train, for the most part there was barely any common traits between the groups waiting to get on the train but just to fact that they all were waiting for a train. That was until Faust begun paying more attention between the people, certain people had the same nervous ticks in this area. He could tell people who were normally in charge, they were constantly glancing around making sure everything was okay and all their ducks were in a line. There were others who were carefree that were just watching everything going on around them similar to Faust but not in a critiquing way, they are more watching others to see what they are doing. Faust just sat quiet and watched everything play out. He could hear the train’s whistle off in the distance along with seeing the white smoke puff of the train making its way towards the town.

As the train pulled in the station people at first fought and pushed their way onto the train. Faust sat behind letting the crowd fight it out among themselves, he would wait for the crowd to die down here in a few minutes. Meanwhile in this time Faust double checked his pack making sure that he had enough prepping items for the hot desert. His unzipped his backpack shuffling inside, pulling things out putting things back in. Once he was sure that all he needed was in seed there he stood up and slung the pack around one shoulder and headed towards the train conductors. They stamped his ticket, letting him on the train. Due to having to be on the train for a whole day Faust went ahead and booked room in a cabin that way he would be able to sleep and move around freely. He entered the train cart and slowly walked down the hallway inside looking for his room.

Once Faust found his room he put up all his gear, hung up his cloths he plopped on the bed and relaxed. He stared up at the ceiling for what must have been ten minutes or so because the sound of the train moving broke his concentration causing him to sit up in the bed. He kicked off his shoes this time and crawled into the bed, nearly passing out on his short track to the pillows. The man was exhausted, he had not been getting much sleep lately and had been constantly on the move putting a lot of strain on his body. As he slept the train trekked on the journey that would nearly take it him around half of Fiore. Faust slept for the first six hours of the trip putting him a third of the trip to his final location, the desert. The sun had set and it was well into the evening hours. Faust looked outside his windows at the starry skies.

He did not stay away too long before passing back out again. This time the train would make it almost all the way to the desert. When Faust woke up his stomach was grumbling intensely, he left his room and made his way to the meal cart. It had to be a bit past ten or so in the morning, Faust could not believe that he had slept that late actually. The meal cart was a few past his own so he had to walk through a few carts of people before he could get to his meal. The people in the other carts were mainly going to areas area the desert or they would not have been on for this long. The number of people that were on the train now was almost a fraction of what it was before he guessed that most had exited while he was passed out in his room sleeping away the whole train ride.

The train came to a stop about an hour or so after Faust had woken up. He had enough time to gather his things and prepare for the desert. He was not looking forward to leaving the nice A/C train for the blistering heat but money was money and he had to go where it was. He stepped off of the train and immediately wanted to faint. He walked over to the dig site where several people were gathered trying to find the next big thing to uncover. Faust grabbed a simple brush and got to work himself. After a few moments he had noticed that the thing that he was brushing around was actually part of a skeleton system. After a few hours the monster was uncovered completely. The skeleton belonged to a new type of creature that was not known to roam Fiore. After the massive beast was found the whole search shifted. Faust was given his reward for the uncover of the beast. He boarded the next train and high tailed it out of that desert.
